The movie is wonderful. Gives many viewpoints and interesting history. Very well done.

Ah...a fresh sandbox.....wonderful. A hail and hearty welcome back to our host as well!

Now on to bidness....

Stevie...I saw a link at the drudge report for another "council" of sort back East. Was wondering if the SBC provides similar "services"? The "what we do" sections are similar.

More business friendly news from Nevada County. This Local CBS Report made the Drudge Report.

NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) — A war veteran who builds furniture in his garage and gives it to military families in need could be forced to shut down the saws.

A homeowners association is telling Dennis Kocher he needs to close up shop after years of doing business, or he could be fined between $100 and $1,000.

“I may not paint, sand, cut wood or screw on the property at anytime,” he said.
The new mandate cuts deep, as he’s been building cabinets and dressers for a decade, donating most to military families.

“Everyone who received my furniture or responsible for dispersing it gave me this gift and it’s something I’ll treasure forever,” he said holding a photo.

He builds to help make a better life for families who have very little.

RussS 952am - And this is just a smidgeon of the future that progressives are building for us with every new tax, fee, law, regulation, ... . What's the definition of evil?

Joe Koyote

"Apparently every leftie in town went to see it, and then packed the movie's review page with horrible posts." -- Maybe it was just a crappy movie to begin with.. what proof do you have of this far fetched statement.. none as usual? Is this just another case of blaming the left for everything you disagree with?

"Liberal love RUlES that tell us how to live out lives." another example of the above-- Russ -- please offer some proof that the homeowners association in question was a bunch of liberals. Perhaps Mr. Kocher was violating building codes or homeowners association regulations. A person cannot run a lawnmower in Lake Wildwood before 8:00 AM. Is this more liberals tellings us how to live our lives or just common courtesy that had to be written into law because some people are just plain discourteous and fail to recognize how their actions effect their neighbors?

The next thing you know the hard right will be blaming liberals for solar eclipses because they are a socialist plot to take sunlight away from conservatives and stomp on their constitutional rights.

JoeK 1019am - The uniform panning of the movie was on a Sierra Cinemas page for 'America'. But just google movie reviews for the movie to see how it is being received by the Left. It is not farfetched to report that in our polarized country the Left will pan a movie that reports the Right's view of US history and its role in the world. And yes, it's good of you to grasp that one of the main themes of RR is to remind readers of how the stratagems of central planners impact our lives. However, as the record here shows, the Left does not get blamed for "everything" that is wrong with our governance - Republicans are also frequent targets when they stray from the Founders' Principles and the Bastiat Triangle of Rights. Your job is to convince readers of the benefits of socialism and how it will not destroy America.

Gregory

I am no big admirer of D'Souza, and thought the late Christopher Hitchens did a good job of mopping the debate stage with Dinesh from a left-libertarian atheistic point of view. That said, I have no doubt the panning of "America" by the local Left is more of the same reactionary criticism the hard Left is famous for.

By the way, there has been no comments at El Jefe's blog for two days. Maybe he should go on vacation and post travelogues more often.

Indeed...an area in which Mr. Koyote and myself find ourselves in agreement.

Lefty's are well known for "stacking the deck" on anything they collectively don't like. From a Board of supervisors meeting, with every "decenter" having the same pre written screed in hand, to " petitions of locals".( with more out of town names than local names).

LIBS even figured out how to run up the tally with the Union's online polls. ( then bragged about it openly.)

So trashing a Concretive movie isn't anything new. Not a bit different than what they did with Atlas Shrugged, or Obama's America.

Don't forget how LIBS sung the praises of Mikey Moore's crapumentry,, and of course the BS of "gasland".
We have " burning water" right down the road in Linda!! How much fracking has been going on there??

Walt

Seems LIBS have no problem firing someone for their religious beliefs.

Just saw 'America'. It is a well done telling of the story from both the America Haters and Lovers side - although I thought that he really bent over backwards to tell the Hater side with first person interviews, historical film clips, and an overflow of direct quotes. The movie contains about the first half of his book of the same name. The second half goes into more detail on the history and 'theories' of governance. I can recommend both the film and the book to RR readers of all stripes.

EPA Admits to Senate that CO2 Regs Not About Pollution Control

On Wednesday, before the Senate EPW Committee, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy had this priceless quote regarding the EPA’s proposed carbon dioxide regulations (italics added):

“And the great thing about this proposal is it really is an investment opportunity. This is not about pollution control. It’s about increased efficiency at our plants…It’s about investments in renewables and clean energy. It’s about investments in people’s ability to lower their electricity bills by getting good, clean, efficient appliances, homes, rental units.”

This gaffe could come back to bite the EPA. The Endangerment Finding was all about the negative effect of “carbon pollution” on the environment. Now we find out “this is not about pollution control”?

Clear demonstration of how the liberal mind works, tell the people on thing, but do another.

Dr. Rebane's asks what is the definition of evil? Evil dons many faces yet always looks the same.

Evil is our Justice Department where all transparency and inquiries go to die. Evil is declaring the results of any action are racist if the outcome has disproportionally affected one group, even though no racism nor intent of racism ever originated. Evil is intentionally stilling a free and vibrate press (asking hard yet fair questions) so the press would back off and look the other way. Evil is wiring tapping reporters and their families. Evil is letting the dogs loose on political opponents (real or imagined) with the full force of the Justice Department and Treasury Department (IRS) to silence political opponents.

In essence, a definition of Evil can be construed to be a purposeful attempt to trash the 1st Amendment with its guareentes of freedom of speech (expression) freedom of the press to be uninhibited, freedom of association, and passing laws or by executive Order hindering freedom of religion or favoring one religion over another.

Evil is the author of lies, deceit, and misrepresentation. Religious writings label Evil as the Father of Lies and the word evil is actually personified.
Evil is cooking the books, be it wholesale canceling of sick patients' appointments at the VA or awarding higher grades to anyone who received less than adequate scores in school based on the color of one's skin to avoid having outcomes that the Justice Department may deem to be unintentional racism. Evil is the antithesis of liberty, Justice, and valor.

Mr Kocher lives in Lake Of the Pines. He has probably upset some one who is now ratting him out. Most gated communities are, to me, hell holes. A lot of folks love them. Mr Kocher is learning - too late - the issue I have with these places. I'm not against the idea of having them for the folks that like them, and I'm all for letting folks live there if they want. It keeps them far, far away from me. This isn't a good example of lefty fascism, it's just a case of some one who's not clued into the way of life in a gated community. Lefties go after everyone, no matter where they live and pry into their lives and drawers and refrigerators and thoughts. There are plenty of examples of that - this just isn't one of them.

Scott Obermuller

See - Joe the K and I can agree on something. But....
"The next thing you know the hard right will be blaming liberals for solar eclipses because they are a socialist plot to take sunlight away from conservatives and stomp on their constitutional rights."
You were doing pretty well for a while, there Joe. But that line about solar eclipses was just lunatic frothing at the mouth. No way can you back that one up with any facts. Take a nice soothing bath or go for a walk and calm down. Gotta watch that blood pressure.

Being a recent escapee from one local "planed" lockdown community, I can attest to their draconian covenants. The "no fences" was at the top of my peeves. Anyone and everyone used my place as a short cut. ( a well beaten path right by my window)
No hunting either.. The deer and turkeys are well versed in those restrictions.
Who says wildlife and man can't co-exist? Take a ride through the likes of LWW and LOP and observe the co-mingling.
The anti hunting critter lovers should get a nice look at their handiwork. A deer the size of a goat with a 275 in. rack. ( Uh,, not good.) The inbreeding is showing big time. Same goes with the turkey's They are turning blonde.( no pun intended)

Crime seems more prevalent inside the wire than out. Yup,, I sure was getting my money's worth. If it wasn't the county busting my balls over not getting a permit to do a minor repair, the ASSociation was sending nastygrams for an empty garbage can that was just visible from the street. Never mind the hole in the vacant house's roof just up the street. That's OK... ( I guess banks who foreclosed are immune from fines for run down property.)

Glad I'm out of there. No I can mow my lawn nude at 10:00 at night if I see fit to do so. I can take a pee and have a smoke off the front porch as the Sun rises without fear of getting some association enforcer writing me up.

This used to be the " Land of the free"... FREEDOM... Think about that. Just what are we really " free" to do? ( without need of license, permit, permission, or statute)
That sure doesn't leave much anymore.

Walt

Back to the LIB dirty pool playbook,, seems a LIB in a position of authority, used that job and title to make a Tea Party leader's life miserable.
Now see who has the last laugh.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/07/25/wis-police-chief-pleads-no-contest-in-tea-party-flap/?intcmp=latestnews

At least the local LIBS have just stuck to bitching about a new paint job on a billboard older than me. ( They got their win non the less. NO crosses or reference to the church.)Christianity has it's own attackers right here. Uh,, Who was comparing little ol' Nev. Co to the Middle East ?

Bill Tozer

Question: Would you have a better chance of surviving two weeks on the mean streets of Detroit or Chicago than you would in Guatemala? Which scenario would have the higher probability of being murdered? If young people are less safe per capita in Chicago than in Central America, what does that say about the liberal mindset and the liberal dominated politicians who run our inner city ghettos and barrios? No wonder results don't matter. Who are the real refuges and who is experiencing a true humanitarian crisis?

Now, dear reader, we must give credit where credit is due. Detroit's murder rate has actually took a turn for the better. No, it's not because people have abandoned Motown in droves, but that could play a role. According to the police chief of Detroit City, he gives full credit to that fact that more citizens have armed themselves with guns, thus the drop in the murder rate. Straight from the horse's mouth and most contraire to the Liberal/Marxist/Obama Mind(less)set. Say it ain't so.

Joe Koyote

scott 5:55 " But that line about solar eclipses was just lunatic frothing at the mouth." You cannot detect sarcasm when you see it? Your chain is too easy to rattle.

Bill Tozer

Mr. Koyote, your sarcasm is always welcomed.....yeah right. :)

Wondering what you think of the 2014 definition of refugee? Traditionally a refugee is someone who is persecuted for their religious beliefs, political opposition, or someone fleeing for their lives as armies approach.

I used sarcasm when I applied Homeland Security's new definition of refugee to our children terrorized in our liberal run inner cities and dangerous urban jungles on a daily basis. I did forget to mention New Orleans, but things might be looking up for The Big Easy now that their former mayor during Katrina has been convicted on multiple racketeering and kick back charges. Should do more time than William Cold Cash Jefferson. But what about American born refugees? How can we turn our backs to them? Have we no heart? Some liberals are cold as a stone and mean as a snake. Think of the little unvaccinated children.

Buzz builds for Brown ’16

http://calwatchdog.com/2014/07/24/buzz-builds-for-brown-16/

Will a Brown Presidency be good for California? Your thoughts?

Walt

You called it Bill,, We even have religious persecution right here in good ol' Nevada Co. I give the "support our troops" sign down at Combie as evidence to that.
Never knew a cross or two, painted on a piece of wood could be SO harmful. Did little children develop a complex and need professional therapy because they saw a cross on a billboard? Did a "non believer's" eyes burn out of their sockets at first glance?

Just a little reminder of the Lefty intolerance of this county.

Nevada City loons are on the loose one again. " Because Nevada City did it,,,,"
http://www.theunion.com/opinion/12338442-113/bags-grass-valley-bag
Nevada City memory loss rears it's ugly head once again.. Way back when, the same ECO clan pushed for plastic to "save the trees!" Remember that? Today, those "plastic bags" are made from corn.( biodegradable by mandate) No paper bags are made from recycled stuff. ( it's printed on the damned thing)
People started buying those "reusable" bags, and promptly started getting sick.
Nice germ catchers if you don't wash them all the time.

Save a logger.. use paper. It's safer.

Mark Steyn on America:

Dinesh D'Souza has a new movie out called America: Imagine A World Without Her - but we don't really have to "imagine", it's happening before our eyes. Nothing difficult and complicated about it: in this decline and fall, the Emperor simply went fundraising.

George Rebane

RussS 204pm - agree that today imagining is completely optional, and needed only by those who keep their eyes tightly shut. But unfortunately the Emperor didn't simply go fundraising. He has lashed the wheel and set the course that will take our ship of state onto the clearly visible shoals, and is now busy raising monies for additional fuel for the engines to speed us there sooner - were it but 'simply fundraising'.

The anti gun gang is in a tizzy. Just think of the fit Nanny Bloomberg had on this news.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/07/26/emily-miller-federal-judge-rules-dc-ban-on-gun-carry-rights-unconstitutional/

Now how can this ruling apply to Ca's anti carry laws? Like the outright ban on open carry. At least the "you better have a damned good reason" to get a CWP has been tossed a few months ago.

Scott Obermuller

Sorry Joe - sarcasm has to based on something real. There is nothing real or even close in what you said. It was just a straight out slur or worse. How about we claim the left (that's you) wants to secretly mandate pedophalia or infanticide? Ha ha - big yucks, right Joe? C'mon, loosen up, it was just sarcasm!
Get some adult help, Joe, and come back when you can add to the conversation.

Ellen and I went to see America this afternoon before it closed up shop and left town. We went to the late afternoon show, and there were 19 people in the theater, all gray hairs above 50. One person jumped up at the end of the show and declared "God Bless America" to loud applause from the audience. There were two twenty somethings in the theater before I took my count, but they left after about 3 minutes, must have gotten in the wrong theater.

We give the movie two thumbs up. Well done, kept our interest. plus I learned some history that was not taught is school. I am looking forward to reading the book and exploring some of the issues in more detail.

Recommend everyone see the movie, even our lefty friends, as Bono said "it is not a matter of right or left, it is a matter of right and wrong.

Dennis Kocher who lives in Lake of the Pines was on Fox News this morning. He is claims that the manager is not administering the CC&R rules equally. His 15 nearest neighbors have written letters of support. Now Vet Units across the land are coming to his support. Lake of the Pine rules and their application is getting some national attention. His neighbors are not complaining, it is the management who according to Kocher, who has never even visited his home has decided he is running a business. His defense, he is running a hobby out of his garage. The Lake of Pine claims it is a business which is forbidden in this closed community. Looks like closed minds at Lake of the Pines. This is not the kind of public exposure that Nevada County needs.

Mitt Romney 2014?
As much as I relish the underdog role, I will suffer through and be part of the immoral majority on this issue.

"Americans are so down on President Obama at the moment that, if they could do the 2012 election all over again, they'd overwhelmingly back the former Massachusetts governor's bid. That's just one finding in a brutal CNN poll, released Sunday, which shows Romney topping Obama in a re-election rematch by a whopping nine-point margin, 53 percent to 44 percent. That's an even larger spread than CNN found in November, when a survey had Romney winning a redo 49 percent to 45 percent."

Two years ago, Obama won re-election with about 51 percent of the vote.

Of course, the poll should be taken with a grain of salt. While Obama is actually taking on the tough task of leading the nation, Romney is sitting comfortably on the sidelines where he is liable to receive a more favorable reception. Still, the finding comes as foreign and domestic crises have sent Obama's approval rating tumbling back to 40 percent, per Gallup.

Also in the CNN survey, a record-low 46 percent say Obama "shares [their] values," while only 49 percent say he is "sincere in what he says," also a record-low. - - Jon Terbush

Wonderful article about Putin...

Brad Croul

Walt, pray tell, what is so important about being able to "open carry" your six-shooter on your hip, or carry your loaded "black gun" down Main St.?
Is weaponry the new macho fashion statement/manscaping jewelry accessory?

Re: "America", first is was, damn liberals won't show the movie "up the hill" in GV. Then, silence when it does show up in our neck of the woods. What gives? I did not notice an apology (or kudos) to the theater owners. Maybe I missed it.

Russ, first it was, damn liberals won't let a vet build furniture at his house. Now we find out the vet lives in the liberal breeding ground of Lake of the Pines. Really, Lake of the Pines is hotbed of liberal activity? After all the knee jerk frog pond serenading (ribit, ribit, liberals suck, liberals suck), we find out that it is just a homeowner's association applying some of their rules. Sounds like the Lake of the Pines Homeowner's association is - gasp! - acting conservatively!

Walt

Brad. It's called "RIGHTS". Maybe you have heard of the word. If I feel the need to pack a gun down Mill St.,, I should be able to do so without getting harassed by cop or anti gun folk. Where is that "LIB tolerance" we keep hearing about? In the mean time, "O" and Co. are turning illegals loose on our streets in mass. Many with criminal backgrounds.( all in the name of "compassion".)

As for the movie,, opening night is a big thing. The local movie houses never balked on LIB flicks on opening night... Ever. Yet it took about two weeks for "America" to show up. ( By then most of the locals had already went down the hill to see said flick.)
Trivia time Brad,, Which movie did the owners of the theaters refuse to show because they were(are) close friends of the Moore family? ( The story was printed in The Union at the time) Now you can pop off with "it's their right to do so". ( see first paragraph)
Apology? I got your "apology" right here.

Russ Steele

Well Brad@10:04AM, you my be right. The Lake of the Pines Home Owners Association may not be a hot bed of liberal rule enforces, like CARB, Cal EPA, and the Democrats in the California Legislature. Just some rigid bureaucrats who are incapable of applying come common sense. The neighbors are not concerned, why is the Home Owners Association Administrator? There has to be some pressure being applied now, as his building hobby has been going on for over decade. Why is his hobby an issue now? Are the rules being applied uniformly, or as Mr. Kocher claims used to target people? With all the national focus, lets see how our local media covers the story and the how the Home Owners Association responds.

Bill Tozer

I agree with Brad' first post when he penned "liberals suck". Finally a point which all concerned can agree. Red letter day for certain.

George Rebane

Abandonment of common sense and clear thinking comes with bureaucracy - and the bigger the bureaucracy, the harder it is to find such sense and thinking in its organization. But that is an indelible trait that accrues to all big organizations no matter their ideology, social aims, or commercial objectives.

Walt

It boils down to "power trips". Give someone an smidgen of authority, and dollars to donuts that authority will be abused. Some "code enforcer" must have found out what the man was doing, and decided to implement zero tolerance.
In LWW, I had to deal with a "compliance officer" about my propane tank. They demand it be screened from view of the street. ( it was,, by my house) They demanded a redwood lattice "box". So surrounding a pressure vessel with highly flammable wood is a GREAT idea. Someone else down the street put a "lifetime gate" ( those farm gates every rancher uses) in front of his.. HAY,,, It's screened! ( but butt ugly non the less)
I think Brad would LOVE to live in LWW or LOP. There are plenty of people there to tell him what he can or can not do. Better get permission before lighting that BBQ. Ya' may have a neighbor that can't stand the smell and gripe. Ya' smoke Brad? Better stay in the house.

Bill Tozer

Authority is a good thing which provides for the benefit of the peoples. Power is an evil thing that benefits only the one wielding the abuse of authority, i.e., power. Pick the label you choose, be it liberals or power mad security guard wannabes, but I always choose the label "control freaks" or friggin control freaks if you prefer.

Brad Croul

Walt, just what scares you about walking down Mill St. without a piece? Don't you think that sounds like a bit of a power trip?
You are going to be the only one that everyone is afraid of, armed to the teeth, strutting around town. Have you considered a career in law enforcement?

Who is the one who played the "vet card"? What does it matter? The folks that buy into gated communities know full well what to expect. Instead of politizing an infraction of known, and agreed-to rules, the matter could have been, and might still be, worked out at subsequent homeowner's association meetings.
Gated communities - thanks, but no thanks. We have plenty of rules right here in River City.

Toz, re: liberals suck. I am aware of that sentiment when heading into the Sandbox.
You seem off your game. Check this out,
http://www.anthem-sports.com/Armstrong-Baseball-Pitching-Throwing-Training-Aid_p_3639.html

Walt

Funny how Brad skipped over a previous question. "How much freedom do we really have?"
that doesn't require a license, permit, permission, fee or staying within bounds of some ordinance? See the paper lately? Just a private gathering at one's home will soon require a permit.( with a nice fee attached.) So much for the "right of peaceful assembly".. On private property no less. GOD help them if they "open carry" at the same event. Brad will not be happy if that happens.

Walt

" armed to the teeth" Now there is a stretch. What part of "if" don't you understand Brad? Now think about that. "Everyone afraid".. Another good stretch. The only ones that would worry are those who have trouble in mind. ( Nope,, not a good idea to try and rob that guy...)
How bout that Dr. who went against hospital rules and carried a gun to work? He saved many a life, by breaking the rules. So in the "book of Brad",, fire him! ( the cops sure are not prosecuting)

Don't like guns? Don't own one. That's your right.( unless you happen to live in a certain planned community that mandates you OWN one and know how to use it... yea they do exist) One's dislike of firearms ends there. LIBS love to ban others from doing things "they" just don't like.
LIBS fall into the "draw Bridger" mentality as well. " Now that I moved here, keep the rest out" Just like the city folk who moved to these here hills and killed off mining and logging. S.F. chased out the hippys in 69, and Nevada County has gone down hill ever since.

Walt

Proof positive LIBS are gullible, and will jump off a cliff if they think they have something on a Conservative.

On a positive note, Mr Croul's link provided me with a coupon for 10% off a buzz cut and shave. Most obliged, kind sir.

Mr. Walt. About 20 years ago I had a good buddy from outside the gates in Penn Valley that got a call one day from somebody from Save the Critters or Save the Creek in PV or maybe it was from the Committee to save Penn Valley.
He told the person on the phone that Penn Valley was just fine and always fine until people like you starting moving in here. Click.
Great decent man he is. 3rd or 4th or 5th generation. His grand pappy (or his grandpappy's dad) built that old barn on Spenceville Road and last I looked it was still
standing. Funny guy. He used the term Penntucky proudly and it was the first time I ever heard it way back then.

He often said Wildwood is not Penn Valley. There is PV and there is Wallyworld. And he just wasn't talking about location. He was referring to a mindset, about newcomers with their pockets full of new regulations and changes and requiring us to play "Mother, may I?" Enjoy your naked lawn mowing in Penntucky and don't forget to wear yer sunscreen.

Mmmmmm for a guy who claims to care so much about "results" and good government you seem awfully preoccupied with getting credit for writing a letter.

The Purple Man writes:

The letter confirms my speculation (which I reported in comments) that Elaine Meckler, Tea Party co-founder Mark Meckler’s mom, and Gregory Marks, a longtime hard-right politico with the local GOP leadership, are Civil Grand Jury members. Dottie Ray Souter also has been active in local conservative politics.

I do not recognize any other names being political activists for the “left.”

We discussed the Purple Man's letter at lunch. Ellen was on a Grand Jury for 20 months. She pointed out that it is not unusual for 100 people to volunteer for the GJ Duty, but only 19 are chosen by a random process. Maybe the reason there are no hard left on the GJ is they are not volunteering for duty on the GJ in large numbers. Could it be that Purple Man does not understand how the GJ selection process works? It is a volunteer organization, you have to show up before you can be considered for selection. I will bet that he has not ever volunteered for Grand Jury duty. He would have to rub elbows and work with with lots and lots conservative volunteers. The key to success is showing up, and conservative show up. Where are the lefties?

If only 3 of 19 Nevada County civil grand jury members are conservatives, they are probably short of the number you would expect from a random sampling of legal residents who don't have a criminal record or other evidence of bad character or mental defect.

El Jefe's (note that's close to Jeff, Spanish for 'the Chief' and phonetically similar to "hefty") increasingly shrill witch hunt for conservatives among his neighbors is getting creepy.

The last time I checked, Lake of the Pines was the most Republican precinct in Nevada County. LOP has plenty of law-and-order types who prefer a lot of laws so they can maintain order. Conservatives should practice what they preach.

Gregory

Yes fish, getting.

It was always ugly and partisan, but between his censorial demand for the Western Gateway Park to rein in "Tea Party" use of the facility (as often as once a month!) for get togethers, and now his rant over three people he recognizes as conservatives being on the Civil Grand Jury, El Hefty is getting both creepy and clearly illiberal.

re GeorgeB 200pm - As a shared attribute, LOP may also/instead be populated by those who like to live in a 'just so' neighborhood that they seek to maintain through explicit rules (since behavioral constraints imposed by a common culture no longer serve in 21st century America). But it doesn't have to be a right/left appeal to understand their (presumably) thick rulebook. Folks of the Left, seeking to build ever more comprehensive collectives, have demonstrated how thick they can make the books containing rules to their own liking.

As long as all who move to LOP do so with full understanding of the CC&Rs and their application, then there should be no grousing that spills over the bounds of LOP. And yes, conservatives should indeed practice what they preach, joined, of course, by others of different stripes.

Todd Juvinall

As a target of a liberal filled Grand Jury in my first term as a Supe I saw how the system was abused by partisans in those days. Of course they were just fishing and the members were out of the committee of the person I defeated. Since then the picking has changed. Maybe Pelline should traipse over to his friends office, the one he donated $500 to, and check the registrations of the members. He is as usual, making shit up so his credibility is moot anyway.

Boardman appears not to understand CCR's of subdivisions. People move there for lots of reasons, one may be the "gated" aspect that keeps out riff-raff like me. My dad built houses there and it seemed people liked the golf course and the lake and the rules were an after thought. I suggest Boardman read the CCr's and get back to the blog.

The Second District was the only one I won in 1998 in the Assessor's race. Prop 8 was my platform and those people seemed to know what I was talking about. LOL! (that was for Pelline)

Barry Pruett

The grand jury reports are reviewed by County Counsel and the presiding judge and approved by a super-majority of the 19 member panel. So two people who are conservative on the Grand Jury is almost irrelevant. Simple partisan politics by the FUE...as usual.

Don Bessee

Hey gang, can you help us little people out here on an issue? What does FUE stand for? I have heard many permutations such as F** U*** Elitist, Former something or other and so on? I have to ask why he posted that he filed a Freedom Of Information Law Suit regarding the Grand Jury without a Case Number identified? His letter was a request under the CA Gov. codes. Am I the only one who finds his love of the Royal Purple odd for a leftist wanna be populist who brags about his high living? His recent whine about the Grand Jury re-appointments is a perfect jeffisim. So Judge Tom Anderson is now a hard right activist? He did the reappointments.

Bill Tozer

At long last I have run out of adjectives. Speechless.

Pelosi: Qataris Have Told Me 'Hamas Is a Humanitarian Organization'

Bill Tozer

Mr.Bessee. I can only guess that FUE is an acronym for something. I always thought it was a misspelling of phew. Think the first letter is for fake or fascist or fat or fatty or fabricator....all apply so pick yer poison.
Maybe it stands for F'ed Up Egomaniac....perhaps someone out there can help ya. Lord only knows there is no help for Pelosi or the PHEW.

The foul-mouthed, ignorant crew on Rebane’s “right wing nut” blog are suddenly crawling out of the woodwork on this issue too. Funny how that works. I have lost hope that Lucy can help them: http://bit.ly/1mXa1pN

They are tiny and irrelevant, but the bigger issue is whether our community will let itself be hijacked by the tea party in our supposedly nonpartisan posts.

There there jeffy….we are indeed "tiny and irrelevant" a far better state I'd argue than "corpulent and irrelevant".

One point of agreement….that did look like one hell of a birthday cake that Barry received. Lucky bastard!

Barry Pruett

George: Started receiving articles from Stratfor. Amazing articles and am thinking of getting a monthly subscription. Thank you for the connection.

BTW...cake was awesome! In fact it was the same day McClintock aptly identified our clerk-recorder as a radial liberal. Happy day.

In fact it was the same day McClintock aptly identified our clerk-recorder as a radial liberal.

Funny….. "radial liberal" was to be my next label for FUE know who……

Oh wait….you meant radical liberal. Never mind then!

Barry Pruett

Seriously, I strongly advise everyone hear to read the Stratfor articles that George posts. They are extraordinarily informative. I wish Obama was reading them...

Radial? Yes I meant radical...as I laboriously type on my phone.

What say you, comrades; would FUE have stuck if it wasn't pronounced "phooey"?

While I would never bet against the proposition the GOP can again pull defeat from the jaws of victory, I think El Hefty is a bit edgy about the election coming up in about 4 months, and this is driving his recent witchhunting.

You get the picture. The beauty is in its versatility!

Bill Tozer

Go Jefe Go! Them radicals are trying to hijack YOUR speck on the planet. Get moving with a purpose and root them all out. Expose them for what they are. Maybe with your fine credentials you can uncover a secret Tea Party note in a pumpkin out there in yonder pumpkin patch. Did wonders for your mentor, Congressman Richard M Nixon of California back in the day. You deserve your 5 minutes of fame. Save Western Nevada County for the sake of Mom, apple pie (ala mode in your case) and the American way.
You may be in Old Europe enjoying your family vacation but after a few "a glass of wine" several times a day, you mind is still as sharp as a fence post and as interesting as a bucket of sandstone.

Go Jefe go. Them extremists be hiding behind every bush. We need you standing on every street corner to protect our women and children from the evils of the militant graybeards.
What would a student of history call your siren call? Oh yeah, McCarthyism.

Gregory

"When the FUE starts losing arguments, you get cut off from commenting." It's the Jeff Pelline Show over there; El Hefty losing arguments and looking stoopid isn't in the script.

I'd be surprised if, in the long run, his political witch hunting doesn't make it harder to sell advertisements in that free-rag glossy advertiser he runs, Sierra Food Wine Art. He lives in a glass house and should watch that stone throwing habit

Todd Juvinall

I wonder if the FUE is in Italy to pay homage to that man of distinction, Mussolini! He made the trains run on time and he had the same policies about "free speech" as the FUE!

I submitted a 750 word Opinion or Voices, to the Union and it appears it will not be published as it has been a couple of weeks after I was called by Hamilton to verify I wrote it. Oh well, I guess I am too opinionated for the Union too. And I did not say one bad word! As always, what a hoot!

Brad Croul

Barry, can you re-post your moderated comments here? It pisses me off that someone would just censor comments because they don't like how the conversation is going.

Russ Steele

Maybe George should start a special Sand Box for moderated comments that never see the light. It will be interesting to see what ideas and thought that the FUE finds objectionable, we would see what kind of thinking that he fears the most.

Gregory

"It pisses me off that someone would just censor comments because they don't like how the conversation is going."

Brad, that is Pelline's modus operandi and has been for some time. For example, he wrote what was, in essence, ad copy for an upcoming InConcert Sierra event, parroting false claims by the Harvard Glee Club they were the oldest collegiate choir in the USA. Jeff let a couple through while mocking me and blocking responses. I alerted InConcert Sierra of the false ad copy and they did not take the offending copy down from their website, clearly marked as being from Jeffy, but the piece in The Union a few weeks later was sanitized and did not contain any of the false claims so they got the message.

George Rebane

Dear Readers - The Sandbox is a perfect venue for your comments that have been "moderated" (censored?) elsewhere. In posting them here, it would help if you used an informative header like -

*** 29jul14 comment moderated on (name of blog) ***

This would allow them to stand out in the comment stream, give their currency, and identify where initially posted. Thanks.

Kathleen Jones

Well, the response inThe Union to the "FUE" is delightful! (It was obvious from the letter that the FUE had made the request, I don't get his need for more recognition in The Union.) I am glad answers to his fatuous questions were answered. Of course, how to serve has always been publicly available, but I am glad he was schooled in how to become a member. Maybe now his tribe can GIVE of themselves and make application so SERVE the community on a future GJ. Some people DO and some people WHINE.

Gregory

Brad 9:02

Please note Pelline's defense against Barry's complaint verifies that everything Barry writes has to be approved by El Jefe first.

Nothing I've had blocked over there deserved blocking based on any fair and reasonable community standard and I expect that goes doubly so for Barry who, I suspect most would agree, is a bit milquetoast compared to my usual style.

Off to the weather... how many know the summer weather in the Arctic Circle is the COLDEST since the Danish Meteorological Institute began determining average Arctic temperatures, starting in 1958? Since April, temps have been below average (often quite a bit below average) every day save a couple days a couple weeks ago. They have been plunging since that brief stab towards normal for the season:

http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/meant80n.uk.php

All the years are available for the looking and yes, I've looked at them all.

Remember, that's just weather. It wouldn't be climate unless it was the warmest summer since, oh, maybe 2009.

fish

….followed by the joyous lassitude of sweaty satisfaction……

I was glad to see The Union has updated its article to read: “Additionally, please be advised that a request for information (made by Jeff Pelline of SierraFoothillsReport.com) regarding the 2013-2014 Nevada County Grand Jury and the 2014-2015 Nevada County Grand Jury was received by the Nevada County Grand Jury on July 12, 2014. The Nevada County Grand Jury feels disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of the Nevada County Grand Jury.”

Sounds like somebody needs a cigarette.

fish

Barry, can you re-post your moderated comments here? It pisses me off that someone would just censor comments because they don't like how the conversation is going.

Ah Brad I believe that you are making a mistake…..jeffy never censors……he moderates….moderates!

From the Google online dictionary:

monitor (an Internet forum or online discussion) for inappropriate or offensive content.

Since everything seemingly not in lockstep with his thinking is "inappropriate"….well you can see where this is headed.

….and in closing….a final directive from his Magnificence.

And Brad, If all this “pisses you” off (as you said over on Rebane’s blog) there’s nobody forcing you to participate.

Gregory

Personally, I noticed Pelline trying to run me off his blog after one post of his that I so thoroughly discredited that both Michael P. Anderson and Steven Frisch agreed with me and rejected his premise. Jeff was one unhappy camper. It's "Jeff Pelline's Sierra Foothills Report" and don't forget it or he'll do a Cartmanesque, "Screw you guys, you're going home."

Gregory

Jeff claims this about Barry P:
"Brad, Barry is in moderation, because of his irresponsible and libelous comments about me and Greg Diaz, his “mortal enemies.” All examples are documented. I am liable for comments published here."

I suspect the lawyer in the mix would disagree with Jeff's characterization, which is probably irresponsible and libelous itself.

I was banned not because of any claimed libel by me. The defamatory speech in my case was directed against me by both Jeff and his attack poodle of the time, both of whom fabricated false and damaging statements, though, to be fair, the fellow from NSJ probably was and is sufficiently separated from reality to arguably be unable to know the difference.

Walt

The "round one" with his own gravitational pull, subscribes to good ol' Berkeley U values. " You can say anything you like, as long as I ( we) agree with what you say."
That's the Progressive idea of " free, unfettered speech".

That was a comment caught on tape of a Berkeley student some years back, yet just as true (if not worse) today as when it was said back then.

Sorry to hear that Brad is getting the JoeK treatment. Seems LIBS have no problem eating their own the minute they step out of line.

FUE will become the "Masterdebater" of his own blog, when he gets done banning all who dare post anything. He will just ghost post under different names and agree with himself.
Now don't get the "meat grease" all over the keyboard while debating yourself.

Now back to training the new German Sheppard pup.

BTW,, Hear Gov. Moonbeam is pretty much wanting illegals to have free run of the state? How DARE Gov. Perry put the National Guard on the TX. boarder!
Brown wants an open boarder. Just like "O" and Co. ... No wonder he wants the run for prez....

Barry Pruett

In FUE speak, "libelous" means true things that I do not want you to say.

Certainly having passed a couple bar exams, I rest assured that I have never defamed poor Jeffy. After all, truth is the ultimate defense in such cases. That said, if anyone does get sued by Jeffy for defamation, make sure that you depose the former publisher of The Union so that we can get the real reason for old Jeffy's departure therefrom on the record so to speak and with immunity for the former publisher.

I would love to sit in on that depostition.

Bill Tozer

They say traveling is broadening. Wonder if at trip to the Hanson Bros. scales were on the pre-vacation and post-vacation itinerary to find out if it is tue. But then again, they used to say fat people were jolly, which has proven quite the opposite.

Certainly having passed a couple bar exams……

Yeah Barry…but you went to law school in Indiana….Indiana….of all places……..and that means you're little more than a African Bushman in jeffys eyes. Certainly not nearly as prestigious as a J school degree from a school in Illinois!

Indiana….really!

Walt

Two first class seats must run a pretty penny. I don't think the "two for one" rate applies any more. But "no charge" for the seat belt extension.
Three seats in econo class will get real pricy.

I sure would love to see the look on his face if he saw any of the Italian Tea Party clan. ( there IS a chapter over there. They paid a visit to Texas when we went to the big Freedomworks convention a while back.)
That should REALLY make his day.

Now don't get the "meat grease" all over the keyboard while debating yourself.

That is a most unpleasant turn of phrase Walter!

During our last leg home, I all noticed all the Lilliputians and Yahoos have hopped back to Rebane’s sandbox to cast pebbles, resorting to their personal attacks rather than substantive ones. Nothing changes much in two weeks.

Mr. Pelline,

I have a substantive issue I would like to discuss. You require commenters on your blog to register in order to comment. "Real" name and e-mail address, website optional are your requirements. When a person attempts to leave a comment, the following;" Email (required) (Address never made public)" is prominently displayed in the comment section.

In your response to:

the very first thing that you show in clear text in your response is an e-mail address

Jackie (@Reagan.com),

that the reader is led to believe probably belongs to Jackie Morrison. This after providing it to a host who claims that he will abide by the terms offered initially, that e-mail addresses will "never be made public".

Why would you do that?

Barry Pruett

I will write a post just for you today Jeffy...in between my trial and cathcing the flight back from SoCal.

Joe Koyote

You should all be happy the FUE exists because that seems to represent about 95% of the posts here. From an outsider's POV, very very boring observing the sharks circling again and again and again. In my opinion, which I know none of you care about but as one human being to another politics aside, all of the personal sand kicking (remember the Charles Atlas magazine ads) probably hurts your political image more than it helps. Any reasonable passerby who reads this stuff would think "cranky old men with personal grudges" rather than reasoned political discourse. I guess it all really turns on what the ultimate purpose of these blogs is, information or agitation.

JoKe.....jeffy fancies himself "The Conscience of the Sierra Foothills" and posts articles routinely about how ......oooh....the HARD RIGHT™...are infiltrating and slowly taking over "our community™"and "our institutions™". They're using "our parks™" and driving on "our roads™" and dare I say they might not want lefty nitwittery to have a completely free hand running "our government™". Now while he identifies correctly that some are pretty conservative, not all are.....and most are barely interested in the open sewer that is modern democracy at all.

That said, jeffy is such a ridiculous tit that his plaintive bleats almost always demand a response.....(Mostly it's mockery....but on occasion it's more appropriate to subject him to ridicule. The commenter is completely free to choose)....if for humors sake only.

If any of this makes you uncomfortable you might want to engage in your textbook example of progressive psychological projection in another venue.

Russ Steele

JoeK@09:51AM I agree, some of the snarky commits after a while become boring and repetitive. It would be nice if we could keep the conversation at a higher intellectual level, but that takes time and energy. Some commenters do not have the time, or refuse to take the time, to do the research and present their case. I have fallen in to that trap from time to time, and resolve to do a better job. Let's see if both sides can do the same.

Gregory

"You should all be happy the FUE exists because that seems to represent about 95% of the posts here." -JoKe

95%? You are reality-challenged, aren't you, Jo?

This thread was lively without El Hefty for over half it's length, and only went FUE-side up when Jeffie started his ranting about three (3!) Tea Party Types recognized on the Civil Grand Jury roster.

For the nation as a whole, 22% are TP. So if Nevada County was representative of the country, with a majority Dem identification, there would be 4 Tea Partiers on the Civil Grand Jury. Given the conservative bent of the area, and that we are in a way a Ground Zero for the TP, it might be a proper number of TP on that panel is closer to 8 or 10.

Only three? I suggest those of you who are TP and/or Jeffersons (and that is not me), send in your apps to the Civil Grand Jury, it looks like you are underrepresented.

George Rebane

JoeK (951am) has a point. For years the FUE's blog has denigrated RR and its readers whenever it wanted to draw some attention to itself on substantive matters. And yes, I understand that FUE can't maintain a reasonable and substantive debate on his blog, because, well, because his adherents mostly use blanks for ammunition, and that's embarrassing. (see also Gregory's 1036am) Better to just nip all that stuff in the bud, and just remount and spout from his ivory redoubt.

But I do think that the FUE has a clever tactic of coming here to inject some outrageous remark that then co-opts the ensuing discussion because he is such an easy and substantial target. Then it takes a while for the reverberation to die down. Nevertheless, the Sandbox or other relevant RR post is a proper venue for countering the hard Left claims posted on any other media outlet. I just wish that the animus directed at the FUE does not focus on or even emphasize the man's ample girth - such offerings, no matter how pithy and clever, serve only to cloud over the commenter's substantive rebuttal. But these are just my own humble opinions. Carry on.

fish 1020am - I see Mr fish is slipping back into his bad habits of cutting and pasting the entirety of previous comments about which he wishes expand. Please give us a break; for facile reading, please respect and husband the real estate.
