"One is a lying, thieving, corrupt crook with no demonstrated skills in statecraft. And the other is an egomaniac with the demonstrated communication skills of an irritated 3rd grader on the school playground, also with no demonstrated skills in statecraft."

Giving credence to your "last great century of man" thesis as well as reinforcing the Menckenesque notion.....'Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

Jon Dozer

George, credit for calling out some of the (many) terrible traits of the GOP nominee. Neglected to mention- racist tendencies and statements (to be mild). He's a full blown racist in my eyes, and now with GOP big wigs calling him on that topic, while he doubles down, his clear racism is going to stick to the guy the remainder of the year.

You also state he would be more inclined to work with Congress?? On which basis do you see this? Dems are at least 50/50 to capture the Senate, and the House GOP still contains a ton of pure-bred Tea People. Also not sure at all he would surround himself with smart people, as smart people will generally be of independent thought. Usually not a compatible trait with that relentless egomaniac.

George Rebane

JonD 1104am - as much and worse was said about Reagan, one of the stars in my pantheon of politicians. We'll have the smart staff and Congress debate when he wins the presidency, or not.

Jon Dozer

With GOP pols stepping up the Trump criticism over the racist comments on the judge (and women/Muslims in the judiciary), with the end of the Dem race at hand, watch the polls tilt back toward Hillary, for an extended run of Clinton +5-7 (aggregate) during the summer months. This aggressive doubling down about the judge is a major miscalculation, and a big one. With more and more former GOP cowards (and popular politicans to their constituents) coming out of the darkness to rip into Drumpf, watch his polls sag relative to Hillary in the next few weeks. He's in a serious box now, cannot really go back at this late stage and admit he was so wrong about the judge. Huge miscalculation on this one.:).

George, what indication do you have that Trump will work with anyone - let alone the Republican party? He is a loner that won't even take advice from his campaign managers. Is this the day American died? (or Nov 8th) Two worse choices voters have ever had to make.

Jon Dozer

Patricia, its been pretty apparent for a few weeks now that it will be Clinton/Trump. Far from ideal, but it never has been. The best American leaders have never sought the Presidency, or been drummed out by dark forces. Bernie's presence will be felt mightily in the Dem platform, and Liz Warren is the odds on VP right now. You sound like a Gary Johnson voter in November, so there's another choice for many that will make a difference.

Bill Tozer

Boy, if Mr. Trump can make it to September being down only 10-12 points, that would be the definition of the sweetest of sweet spots I could ever hope for. A ten point lead in politics can disappear in a week. Heck, Hillary was up over Bernie in CA by 30 a month ago.
Dozer's prediction is like saying the sun will come up over the summer. At least he is still steadfastly avoiding any merits and character defects of My Gal. For that he gets an A for consistency.
Trump stepped in it, My Gal has been playing house in it. What we have here is a Mexican Standoff. Both bring caca to the table and the only question is wha will stick to the walls when the food fight is over. Who Flung Poo.

Racist?
"Judge Sotomayor has given several speeches about the importance of diversity. But her 2001 remarks at Berkeley, which were published by the Berkeley La Raza Law Journal, went further, asserting that judges’ identities will affect legal outcomes.
“Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences,” she said, for jurists who are women and nonwhite, “our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.”
Her remarks came in the context of reflecting her own life experiences as a Hispanic female judge and on how the increasing diversity on the federal bench

BillT 205pm - Good catch on Sotomayor Mr Tozer. However, I must again remind us all that racism is an affliction isolated to the Caucasian breeds especially of the male gender. Given two identical observations or propositions one by a white man and one that has claim to minority status, it is only the white man who can be judged racist. This is an indelible progressive truth, immune to any and all systems of reasoned counter-argument.

Bill Tozer

Opps, sorry. I cut off a line from a quote above. Here is the complete sentence from our Latina Supreme Court Judge.

“Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences,” she said, for jurists who are women and nonwhite, “our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging."

I am confused as to which one is the crook. The fact that anyone would vote for Trump is a classic example of just how divided America has become…Almost the same can be said of Hillary; she, at least for the most part, has served the public rather than herself (no more nor less than any other politico). Voting for Trump seems to be more of a knee-jerk emotional reaction than a thoughtful assessment of the pros and cons. The fact that Wall St. doesn't like Trump ought to be warning enough. Reagan's son has come out to say he won't vote for Trump and neither would have his father. From a global standpoint, Trump more resembles the fearless leader from N. Korea than he does Ronald Reagan.

Patricia Smith

Jon D, June 7, 1:47pm Iam voting for Jill Stein if I can't vote for Bernie. No other choice in my book.

I find it endlessly entertaining watching you guys rationalize that somehow Hillary is somehow less sleazy than Trump because of "public service". If Hillary was white, male, and Republican each and every one of you would be capering about like Howler Monkeys over perceived corruption in office, "pay to play", and blatant cronyism.

Jon Dozer

Patricia,
I like Jill Stein and nearly all of her priorities. I'm a realist to the core however, and when I read this first component of her platform on her website, I'm not sure Jill is dealing in reality. This one gave me pause.

..This plan will end unemployment and poverty..

Sounds like a Green Party version of something Drumpf might say.

Gregory

Hillary and her life in public service? Which life was that?

Certainly not the current one.

PaulE 227pm – He’ll be my guy if I vote for him in November and he wins.

RobertC 230pm – With all due respect Mr Cross, you are naïve beyond my ken if you cannot tell which one is the crook, and that Hillary “has served the public rather than herself”. She has put Al Capone and the dons of the mafia to shame during her years in public life. And that you cannot understand my series of posts on and about Mr Trump’s ‘desiderata’ speaks volumes. As I have again made clear in this most recent post, there is NOTHING “knee-jerk” or “emotional” about my voting for Trump in the primary – I assure you that those who voted with my predilections did it with the coldest of calculations. I’m sorry that our worlds have drifted so far apart that such conversations are no longer possible.

Scott Obermuller

from Robert Cross -"...she, at least for the most part, has served the public rather than herself (no more nor less than any other politico)."
That woman has never served anyone but herself. Ever. The DNC writes it and R Cross just laps it up and spews it out.
I see no reason to vote for the lesser evil. And clearly, Trump is far less evil. Hilary is absolutely everything the left claims to hate and they will, in the end, vote for her.
I'm going to vote for the person I think will be the best president. No one 'has' to vote any other way.
If Hilary is elected, it's because the electorate wants her and they, and they alone are responsible for the mess that will ensue.

Jon Dozer

Scott, I now see why you won't recognize Clinton's accomplishments as a public servant. They were all meant to help people of lesser means and people with fewer rights around the US and the World. Not exactly your priorities...

But that's OK, really. Drumpf will need you.

fish

They were all meant to help people of lesser means and people with fewer rights around the US and the World. Not exactly your priorities...

This should be fabulous......by all means, enlighten us as to the selfless acts that Madame Secretary has performed?

Todd Juvinall

America is in a transition. Just like the old clock pendulum theory. We are inundated with laws and regulations and police power for everything as placed by the liberals. And the country is reacting to that by placing a unfiltered free market capitalist in a position to perhaps douse those flames of liberalism. Who the heck knows though. I am confident that if Trump wins he will surround himself with smart people who think like me. If not, we will have a indicted President in Hillary who sold access to Muslim nations who enslave their people and rape their women.

Jon Dozer

The Drumpf phenomenon has nothing to do with an overwhelming desire for free market capitalism. If so, his supporters would be supporting free trade and cheap foreign labor. The Drumpf thing has only to do with red meat and bitter emotions from those left behind since the early 1980s.

Jon Dozer

"Hillary who sold access to Muslim nations who enslave their people and rape their women".

Please explain Todd. I don't tend read the right wing gossip rags as a regular habit.

Jon Dozer

a correction is in order for Todd's misprinted sentence.

"...and police power for everything as placed by the PATRIOT ACT and subsequent associated laws in the name of "national security", as passed by the largely conservative Congress."

Thanks.

Todd Juvinall

So you have no idea then? There was a excellent PBS on Saudi Arabia the other day all about it. Perhaps you need to expand your reading to more than all that leftward rag crap like DailyKos and the Nation.

People in America want jobs and Hillary has never created one in the free market. She and her hubby are leeches. They suck the blood (money) from whatever host they can grab. At least Trump has employed many thousands and many were minorities.

Jon Dozer

Todd, interesting that you have a problem with George Bush's and the GOP's favorite Muslim country- Saudi Arabia. I have a problem wtih them too. But my god man, where's your GOP loyalty on this issue! LOL. May want to lobby your GOP pals like Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to possibly reconsider their refusal to open up the files on them Saudis. So, am glad you go against your own party and support exposing the confidential, top secret 911 report on Saudi Arabia.

Tons of mistakes were made in the Middle East over the last 16 years. There was attempt to funnel the Arab Spring into a positive movement- it worked in Tunisia, and in the long run, it will benefit the region. Lots of pain and mistakes made. At least there were plans and steps taken to try to improve the region. Drumpf is making everything up as he goes, and hasn't a clue about the complexities of foreign policy. The polls show the vast percentage of Americans know he is ignorant and dangerous about matters of the world.

Paul Emery

Trump is going over like a fart in a hot tub with fellow Republicans. Here's the latest to take the dive. Look for an overall shunning in about a week.

"Christie’s home-state poll ratings were already bad well before he endorsed Trump, with his approval declining during his own presidential run from the high to low 30s. But after the Trump endorsement, they cratered, falling into the 20s."

"They were all meant to help people of lesser means and people with fewer rights around the US and the World."
Like Saudis that like to kill gays and abuse women have 'lesser rights' because they can't buy American fighter jets? Hilary got that problem fixed. A few hundred thou here and a few million there and whada ya know? The poor Saudis of lesser means suddenly had the 'rights' to buy their toys courtesy of the American State Dept run by guess who? George 3:36-- It seems as if Benghazi Whitewater and all the other right wing propaganda machine failures have soaked you and some of your cohort's brains. How many congressional investigations that concluded there was no foot dragging, wrong doing, or any other avoidable circumstances does it take for you to see the truth? Probably none, because you only believe what reinforces your ideology, in this case " Hillary is a crook, therefore, anyone, including Trump, is acceptable. And, of course, the whole Benghazi affair and the fact that all of the investigations turned up nothing was only because of some kind of cover-up. People's minds will go to great lengths to avoid an inconvenient truth.

I am no fan of the Clintons but not because I think they are somehow incompetent, like Trump, but because they are goons for the multinational conglomerates and holding companies. I like Bernie (who beats Trump by 10-15% depending on the poll), as do a majority of Americans. But Bernie is too radical for Wall Street.

Scott O-- " If Hilary is elected, it's because the electorate wants her and they, and they alone are responsible for the mess that will ensue."

The same can be said of Trump and you will be responsible.

Jon Dozer

Paul, thanks for that piece on Christie. There is not a more pathetic figure in American politics today than Chris Christie. Paul Ryan a distant second, although moving up on a bullet. After this election and the Drumpf loss, Christie may not be able to be seen in public out in Jersey- with the kids grown, may want to consider a Trump Tower condo. All his cards in on the AG position in a Drumpf presidency, or bust. His political career will then end, and he will go back to making a lot of money in private practice.

George Rebane

Re Hillary and Benghazi - there are no congressional investigations that have concluded that Hillary didn't lie (multiple times) about the cause of the attack, and that State is still dragging its feet in not responding to multiple congressional investigations. The following is from just one of them -

Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and therefore may not necessarily reflect the views of their Members,"[4] was critical of the Obama Administration's actions before, during, and after the attack. Among dozens of findings, the report states that:

* "Senior State Department officials knew that the threat environment in Benghazi was high and that the Benghazi compound was vulnerable and unable to withstand an attack, yet the department continued to systematically withdraw security personnel"
The "[Obama] Administration willfully perpetuated a deliberately misleading and incomplete narrative that the attacks evolved from a political demonstration caused by a YouTube video."
* "... after a White House Deputies Meeting on Saturday, September 15, 2012, the Administration altered the talking points to remove references to the likely participation of Islamic extremists in the attacks. The Administration also removed references to the threat of extremists linked to al-Qa'ida in Benghazi and eastern Libya ..."
* "The Administration deflected responsibility by blaming the IC [intelligence community] for the information it communicated to the public in both the talking points and the subsequent narrative it perpetuated."

Jon Dozer

Why would the failed, rudderless state of Venezuela be my favorite country, Todd?

Hillary is just more of the same. Her foreign policy decisions had us arm ISIS and radical Sharia Law adherents in Syria and that colossal failure of a war called Libya. Eyppt? How did siding with the Brotherhood work out? Hillary and Obama take their talking points straight from the Muslim Brotherhood. Hey, how about another reset button. 3rd time is a charm. Our enemy is not Mslims. It's Sharia Law which cannot co-exist with the Constitution of the United States of America.
How about the Foundation that paid for Chelsa's digs? And private jets for Bill. And 9% of the foreign hundreds of millions actually going to charity. And don't get me started on why higher taxes coupled with more regulations, fees, inspections, paperwork, and intrusion is not good for our economy.
Dems are outta touch. Trump rocks. It's the economy stupid.

Scott Obermuller

Our resident left-wing troll is always throwing around the race, age and sex related name calling.
You have to give him some slack. After all, he hasn't got anything else to fall back on.
He does serve a purpose. You get a good idea of why our country is so messed up.

Bill Tozer

Ah Fish, come on. Mr. Dozer has bigger blind spots than Helen Keller reading the waffle iron. He cannot see his racist rhetoric flowing forth from a bigoted heart, so of course there is a racist hiding behind every bush....except the bush he is resting in the shade behind. We all have our blind spots. What really gets Mr. Dozer going is many things, first among which is the "USA, USA, USA!!!" which he feels is code for White Power and ridiculous at best. Sad.

Mr. Cross still cannot understand why gummit is inherently evil. Public service is a good thing in his mind. It can be for some civil servants, our servants. It's even better when results don't matter, it's darn near impossible to fire our servants, and they get more money and better benefits than those who rely on results mattering. They say you can't fire slaves, but what about firing dead weight hiding behind "public service"? Hmmm.
Now, about My Gal. Nothing to see here. This from the same civil servant that said "there is not one smiggen of corruption at the IRS, not one smiggen" while Lois Lerner was taking the 5th....with pay and 6 figure bonuses. Must of been her reward for the outstanding job she did at the politicalized Federal Elections Commission, but I digress.
So, lady and gentleman, I present to you the owner of the phrase "the most transparent administration in history", the one who claimed unequivocally there is not one smiggen of corruption at the IRS, the one and only President who has his Columbia records sealed to this day, our President and Chief Blind Spotter, Barrack Hussein Obama:

Bill Tozer

Well, why even vote?
Gomez said he wanted to register his displeasure with Clinton, "even if it doesn't really count." The Mexico native has concerns about Sanders' record on immigration, in particular his vote against a 2007 immigration reform bill in the Senate, but he was even more uneasy with Clinton. He described her as someone "who only says what people want to hear."

It was a theme echoed by voters entering polling places across the state. Uneasiness with Clinton seemed to rule the morning, reminding her campaign that even on this celebratory day, the party that Clinton has been chosen to lead remains deeply fractured amid concerns about her trustworthiness, her ties to Wall Street and, of course, her email server.

Jon Dozer

OK fish..LOL. My ballot was mailed weeks ago, and never have been employed by a government.
Since mail-in voting is now the majority in the County, not sure what's going to change...but you never know, it may tighten a point or two.

Greg, yeah those 1 or 2 Truckee government workers will surely be loyal to Heidi. After all, they face that hellacious daily commute and can relate to Heidi's values. Good point.

Gregory

Heidi got 80/20 of the early voters... but Bernie got 85/15 of the early birds getting wormed. Does not bode well for Heidi :)

The early voters tended towards the loony left in the past, too. These numbers are virtually meaningless.

Jon Dozer

YubaNet is the best. Always the real time leader for anything important in Nevada County.

Speaking of Don Bessee, he's currently 2nd to last in the local GOP Central Committee voting. To repeat, and contrary to speculation and unfounded rumor, he is NOT in last place.

Heidi appears on her way to victory in D1, contrary to Gregory's theory discounting early voting. Most people here vote by mail anyway (Who wouldn't?). Great job and well deserved after all the hard work Heidi!

D2 is a hopeless cause for any progressive.

Gregory

District 1 is indeed falling for the carpetbagger, but the early voting canard was as I described... the 80/20 gusher was short lived and fueled by the folks expecting a county pension someday.

Robert Cross

George: 5:43 -- " there are no congressional investigations that have concluded that Hillary didn't lie" and none that concluded that she did lie. You are arguing a false negative. On your quotes from "one" committee; where those quotes from the findings or were they a congress person's comments? No where in those quotes was Hillary Clinton's name mentioned. None of the committees found any wrong doing, plain and simple, foot dragging or not. You continue to grasp straws to support your ideological rather than logical observations on Benghazi. You want Hillary to be guilty so she is.

Selective perception: true story told to me by an eye witness. A man was being arrested for molesting his 7 year old daughter. The man's mother was there yelling and screaming at the police officers making the arrest. Finally, the perpetrator grabbed his mother, looked her in the face and confessed to the molestation. The mother looked at him and said, "don't lie to me." Because in her world her son didn't molest her granddaughter, so she simple refused to believe it really happened.

Congratulations, Don. We`e proud of ya.

Well Nevada County is rocking tonight with the landslide defeat of measure W by nearly 15%. Now its time for the Supervisors to get to work and craft an ordinance that mitigates the impacts of MJ Cultivation and gives Nevada County farmers to participate in this new era of commerce under the new state guidelines. The Supervisors put W on the ballot to let NC residents speak their mind on the issue and they did with a resounding no to a ban on outdoor cultivati0on. Roll up your sleeves Supes and go to work doing what you should have done in the first place.

Well, boys, Idaho must be looking pretty good right now.

Measure W and Measure Y - two unnecessary initiatives rejected by the People.

Jon Dozer

If only Todd had run in District 1...what might have been...:)

Patricia Smith

While I am over the moon that Measure W was defeated, this is just the beginning of the real work ahead. All we ever wanted was a seat at the table to find a reasonable compromise beween patients' needs and homeowners' rights. Now we have that opportunity and I hope all sides participate so that we can finally put this matter to rest.

jon smith

I went to three election parties last night. It appears obvious that Duane lost not because he was such a bad candidate, but because people were rejecting the Tea Party favorite. If the far right stayed out of this race, he might have won.

Gregory

A Gang of One does not a stampede to Idaho make and, regarding the presumptive Democratic Party nominee: "Everybody in politics lies, but they [the Clintons] do it with such ease, it's troubling". Let's remember, David Geffen was a major Clinton supporter... what are friends for?

As marijuana production approaches tomatoes in profit potential, the bloom will be off the chola.

Rather more petty than I expected from you.....it his however exactly what I expect from me and Nevada Citys favorite son "The House that Cheetos Built"!

Welcome to the dark side RL!

Local hard-right bloggers and global warming deniers: Meet your incoming District 1 Supervisor!

Posted on June 8, 2016 by jeffpelline

George Rebane, Russ Steele, Todd Juvinall, Don Bessee, Bill Tozer, Gregory Goodknight, “Walt,” “fish” et al. Meet your incoming District 1 Supervisor, Democrat Heidi Hall!

George and Russ: I guess Nate Beason wasn’t so “liberal” after all. (Political bloggers Rebane and Steele, and some prominent leaders of the Nevada County Contractors PAC — you will recall — endorsed tea-party candidate Sue McGuire in 2012, mainly because Nate wasn’t conservative enough or too independent minded. Read their “thoughts” here, here and here).

Nate handily beat Sue McGuire, Nate retired and now Heidi is going to represent George and Russ in District 1. ROFLOL!

As the Irish might put it, western Nevada County politics are good craic. Exit question: Will George and Russ be “off to Tipperary” now that the District 1 Supervisor is a Democrat? And what if Hillary is elected President?

A hearty congratulations to both Ms. Hall for winning and to your wife as I'm sure that the constant (and quite justified) nagging to get rid of all of that semen stained "Greg Diaz for Clerk/Recorder" political swag out of the garage will finally pay off!

...And what if Hillary is elected President?

Then I've drawn a four card, Ace high, inside straight politically speaking and can look forward to four years of endless hilarity emanating from D.C.!

Todd Juvinall

A mixed bag of results but I think one thing is true. People move here to have an cherish their private property. Left or right. Pelline is anleftwing idiot who could not analyze his way out of a paper bag.

I am not disappointed in any results but once again our County has shown they are fairly conservative. The Bernie Sanders crew was amazing. I congratulate them on their energy though they are totally misguided. But they did drive the results.

Gregory

Jeff Pelline has, in the past, been rabid in his insistence that non-partisan office nominees and holders should be just that... non-partisan... and now he's wallowing in the DP-ness of the presumptive winner for District 1.

Imagine that.

Robert Cross

"When you shoot yourself in a foot that you’ve already stuck in your mouth, there’s a good chance you’ll blow your head off." Very appropriate for the likes of Don Bessee, the sheriff, the tea party, the supervisors, the board of contractors, and the rest of the good ole boys who supported W. Welcome to the reality that your ideas and ideology are too far out on the fringe to be acceptable to the majority (which is how our society decides things; by majority vote). Welcome to the 21st century where issues like climate change and income inequality are real not some govmint conspiracy. Now, perhaps you will pull your collective feet out of your mouths and rather than trying to put them down other people's throats help find solutions that work for everybody as opposed to trying to force your narrow minded solutions onto everyone else. If you want to assign blame for your guy losing District 1, blame yourselves, you blew poor Duane's head right off.

George Rebane

It is with great interest but not surprise that I note the Left rejecting Hillary's sins at State because no congressional committee has named her personally culpable. This is in contrast to their attributing leaders on the Right being responsible for what happened on their watch. In the case of Benghazi, the whole country knows and documents show that Hillary, Rice, and others in the administration lied about the video when they knew that the attack was planned, organized, and successful due to their own failures.

That's a pretty presumptive statement. Our elections are not about picking the perfect candidate, but about picking the least worst choice. I personally abhor Hillary, but she terrifies me less than Trump.

rl crabb

fish 8:25am - A shot of snark after election day hangover is more than justified after all the blustering babble coming from some of the regular denizens of Doc Rebane's hangout. It's a different county now, unless someone can convince the 30+% of voters who didn't show up to join the opposition.

Indeed it is a different country now. Interesting to how these "new men (& women)" will react when presented with the bill for the Baby Boomers (the largest cohort posting here I believe) largesse?

Jon Dozer

"once again our County has shown they are fairly conservative."

Only in a warped universe Todd, far, far away. Funniest quote I will read all day! Lets just ignore the major shift left in registration. Even Duane acknowledged the shift. I agree with smith, he would have done better had he stayed as a Moderate Dem and rejected Tea Bag money and support. Most of the Baggers were smart enough to stay out of the race in a progressive district, Duane filled the desperate vacuum as an unwitting participant in the right's strategy. He would normally been a No on W guy, as a Nevada City merchant, but had to take a neutral position due to the backers. Besides that, he had no passionate positions to stake out, being a natural moderate progressive, with right wing backers. A political lesson learned.

George Rebane

jons 917am - As you repeat back to me the thesis of my commentary (did you see the picture of the nose clip?), you assert an undefined 'presumption' of mine without sharing what I assumed as true in the absence of proof to the contrary (the avowed realm of commentators of all ages).

Todd Juvinall

"jon", you need to learn to read the results without your partisan glasses. I am correct as usual. You are a buffoon. As usual.

Jon Dozer

fish, 9:37, I agree with the question you are raising. Miracles can occur.

The young are clearly a majority progressive lot, and with their deep social commitment to community, how will they deal with the fiscal and social costs of the retiring boomers? They are not driven by golden dreams of financial success and accumulation of wealth, but will they take on the personal obligation of caring for that generation with the sacrifice of their time and money?

Jon Dozer

Todd, are you that much of a sore loser? Good god man, lets deal in reality. The conservative parts of the County remaining are centered around the old timers in LWW, LOP and Alta Sierra. The towns and rural areas are rapidly going progressive. Only you fail to see this trend, but that's to be expected.

Todd Juvinall

"jon" you are the sore loser not me. I am not a loser. I am a observer. You bet the farm for Bernie and he got his ass kicked by the "gal". My guy won.

Jon Dozer

"I am not a loser" Todd Juvinall

...lol...
