George Boardman

An attentive reader with an open mind understands that the paragraph you cite from my Jan. 16 column in The Union illustrates the fear of Trump's opponents, just as the second paragraph in the column reflects the optimism of his supporters. As I maintain in the column, the reality is likely to be somewhere between those extremes.

My column is a lot easier to understand if you disable your political filter before reading it.

Did you disable your political filter before writing your article?

GB, your analysis of what Republicans do in office is greatly affected by your Dem tendency to look at Presidential outcomes as if they were kings.

The last four score years were essentially owned by Dems, punctuated by bare GOP majorities in Congress

George Rebane

GeorgeB 747am - Of course you listed the "fear of Tump's opponents", but that does not remove those fears from their belief system, which has been in place for at least a couple of generations, and which they have sought to convince all America (through their media, union schools, and academe) as the reality of conservative governance regardless of what history records. There is no contradiction in fearing what you consider to be real.

A careful reading of my commentary would reveal that I am a critic of such a worldview on the merits of its verity. However, what would be most welcome from a thoughtful and studied man of the center like you Mr Boardman is an exposition of your own socio-political credo. People clutching that center stripe have a most difficult time penning a few tenets of their own. As Exhibit A, our friend and your ideological colleague RL Crabb has declined the same invitation for years.

Ads in two dozen cities offer protesters up to $2,500 to agitate at Trump inaugural
Demand Protest ads running seek operatives to “send a strong message” at presidential inauguration

“Get paid fighting against Trump!” says the ad.

“We pay people already politically motivated to fight for the things they believe. You were going to take action anyways, why not do so with us!” the ad continues. “We are currently seeking operatives to help send a strong message at upcoming inauguration protests.”

More HERE.

I see the Bikers from Oklahoma and Texas are on their way to the presidential inauguration. There plan to form a human chain between the protesters and inauguration participants. It could turn into a riot of the first order. Now that is something to fear!

Watching the "news" shows is really quite entertaining. The lefty people are truly unhinged. The people on the right are simply realistic and hopeful for America. And they are finally standing up to the libs and not letting their lies go unchallenged. I am especially proud of the black conservatives since they are ruthlessly attacked by the libs, mostly white libs. The black leftists seem to be unable to get past 1860 and in my view are irrelevant to the success of the country. Rather than talking about success they talk about defeat.

Most people confuse the Clinton Global Initiative with the Clinton Foundation. The CGI was set up to be a for profit arm for Bubba. It's the one we read about on Wikileaks concerning Doug Band. It would take at least 71 pages to explain all the various off shoots of the Foundation, many set up through Canada. Canadian law does not require donors' names to made public.

With that said, forensic accountants say the Foundation and its complex network of spin offs may be near impossible to unravel. Originally set up through the Price Waterhouse branch in Little Rock.

This link appears to try to be fair and resists the temptation to jump to conclusions at critical junctures. Does not appear to bogus or fake news, but who has the time to verify everything? The CGI:

George, anyone to the left of Attila the Hun would fall into your liberal category. Trying to explain it to you is fruitless. Suffice to say I march to the beat of a spastic drummer.

George Rebane

rl 958am - That was a non-response Bob. The point of my request is not to my categorization of you (and GeorgeB), you both have already done that quite well with the labels you are self-adorned. My and other readers' interest is to discover the particulars of a middle-roader's belief system. And what most disturbs me is why you would consider my level of understanding and ability to assimilate new information to be so poor as to make your effort to explain "fruitless". But posit that I'm really a double dummy, then the explication of your tenets would still be of benefit to the multitudes of regular RR readers brighter than me.

Todd Juvinall

Crabb is to the left of Mao and therefore anyone to the right of Mao is a fascist.

I find RL rather eclectic in his political positions....and not nearly so dogmatic as most of the proggie idiots who leave their droppings here!

Todd Juvinall

Fish, maybe you are right.

On another front,

The dustup started by Representative John Lewis and Trump is a good example of liberal hypocrisy. We all are proud of Lewis for his efforts during the 60's regarding civil rights for blacks. But I ask how long are we supposed to give him a pass for his foolish actions and statements? Trump won fair and square. It has been fifty years since Lewis was knocked on the head! I like the example of the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. He almost died on the operating table yet when he recovered he was ostracized and attacked relentlessly by the left and their media pals. Lewis should stand on his record. If he does we all will see what a political failure he has been for his constituents in Atlanta. But the press won't tell you that truth. Same for Maxine Waters. A total failure for her Watts constituents. It still looks like a riot just happened there. But she and her hubby got into banking and are now wealthy. Her voters are mostly poor blacks and some poor latinos. If you are sick of all these failures getting praise from the media, pass this along and make some comments. If America is to become better, these dinosaurs of the left must be defeated for office and replaced by DOERS!

BradC

You are onto something Todd. We have too many 'sacred cows'. Trump says screw sacred cows! Screw John McCain/war hero/POW/sacred cow, Screw the CIA/sacred cow, Screw the Military/sacred cow, - and Screw John Lewis/civil rights dude who was in a dustup 50 years ago, ...and any other sacred cows. #Screw Ronald Reagan/sacred cow What a hoot!

Bill Tozer

Todd, Maxine Waters has a long history....of saying head scratching things. Just Goggle Maxine Waters Crazy......its is just who she is. I liked her saying Crooked Hillary was a phrase Putin coined and passed it on to Trump....within the last 24 hours. Proof of illegitimacy!

Here is a example:
During the LA Riots of 1992, Waters practically justified, if not outright defended, the rioting, pillaging, and looting which took place:

“If you call it a riot, it sounds like it was just a bunch of crazy people who went out and did bad things for no reason. I maintain it was somewhat understandable, if not acceptable. So I call it a rebellion..

One man's meat is another man's poison. One woman's riot is another woman's rebellion.

Todd Juvinall

BradC, I have listened to your ilk screaming "progressive" ad nausea all my life. Now you are for the status quo. I think liberals are loons.

Todd Juvinall

BillT, yep she is truly a opportunist and has become rich at the expense of her constituents. Just like those crack dealers, the prey on their own. She has preyed on her people and lives a pretty fashionable life. Maybe a trip back to Watts to see the destruction and demise could wake her sorry ass up?

Bill Tozer

Mr. Boardman's editorial did not raise any flags with me. It was just his view of how the Looney Left views the Hard Core Right and vice versa. Or, it was just Mr. Boardman being Mr. Boardman. You can always count on the reference to Y-T, so that is a given. I would have liked for him to expound on the fear in the air, but he did not have unlimited space to include everything. Lately he is on the "Obamacare, What's Next?" kick and of course Y-T. At lease he stopped running over here yelling "Racist!" and run back into hiding. That is progress.

Mr. Crab is an equal opportunity offender when he sees things paradoxical, ironic, absurd, or foolish going down. Sometimes he gets lucky and a gift is dropped in his lap and sometimes he has to work for every penny on slow news weeks. As a descendant of a political cartoonist that got run out of Chicago, I have a soft spot for RL. A political cartoonist is expected to poke Da Man in the eye or else he why read it? Yeah, he really gets going when he sees something he just plum don't like.

With these niceties aside, Dr. Rebane's point still stands. Despite repeated invitations, I have yet to see anyone state their tenets and social-political credos. That usually ends the conversation right there and now. Usually? Ok, always is the conversation stopper.

Perhaps Steve tried once. Steve will answer questions when asked. Got to give him credit for that. Brother Ben has submitted unprompted a Philosophical Theorist thesis that was more akin to a blend of the Communist Manifesto's worker's Paradise, OWS, Robert Reich, The Grapes of Wrath and Wal-Mart heirs bashing, aka. Ralph Nader marries Jill Stein. If he would ever venture out into mentioning technology, it would probably parallel the Unibomber's Manifesto.

Again, to be fair, some of the Unibomber's Manifesto warnings and predictions are starting to come true. Go figure.

Bill Tozer

Brad C. You misunderstand Trump. Rosie attacked him first, which started game on. A feminist author told me exactly that a couple of years ago who happened to see Rosie's comments on The View. I was shocked that she, a 2nd wave feminist, defended Trump because Rosie started it. I was also shocked she watched the View. That wave of feminists believed in fairness over personalities. Fairness and equality above all else, even politics. Add rigid honestly to fairness and equality.
Same with McCain. Same story.with all of them. Even that disabled reporter...Trump though the NYT reporter was mocking him. Lewis called Trump's win illegitimate, thus game on. Had nothing to do with Lewis in Selma. Reagen is dead and unable to call Trump names, thus Reagen is safe. :)

Like it or not, Trump will let no slight go unanswered. Not in him. Trump is no respector of a person's status, fame, accolades or position in life. The silver lining gets his message out without filters or calling a press conference.and relying on them to spread the news. Instant transparency.

Back to Lewis. No apology from Trump came. No I misspoke. Trump then doubled down. Called Lewis a liar for saying he never boycotted an inauguration before. Said he had done nothing for his district. Lewis's spokesperson issued a muffled retraction today. Lewis boycotted W's inauguration because W's win was also "illegitimate" . Go figure.
Odd, the press has yet to find one black person that Lewis has helped in his Georgia's district after all these years in Congress, but I digress. And Trump does not need an invite from Lewis to go to Selma. Alabama went 63% Trump, 34% Hillary.

George Rebane

What Russ Steele reports in his 901am is IMHO reprehensible political behavior, damn near to the old practice of paying for votes that was practiced by party and union bosses of yore. When such doings are brought up, all leftwingers automatically go into 'duck and cover' mode leaving their crickets to do the heavy lifting. Hiring people to go demonstrate against one of the most sacrosanct happenings in our republic is sleaze at its ultimate, and remaining silent about it comes in at a close second.

@ 12:53. Sadly, we have seen it too many times from the Dems. Guess we are getting conditioned to it by now. Ads to pay agitators for violence hit newspaper classifieds in Oklahoma yesterday. Yes, even in Oklahoma.

The Chicago 7 were charged with crossing state lines to incite and disrupt. I foolishly thought after the Project Veritas tapes emerged, the FBI would be knocking at Richard Creamer's door. Instead I posted a pic of Richard Creamer standing in the front row of Obama's televised Farewell Speech in Chicago, coincidently about the exact same time the Golden Shower fake news hit the internet.

No one cared about Richard Creamer's criminal record nor his 200 trips to the White House. And Creamer only paid up to $1,500/day, plus doctor's bills, room and board.. The new bunch is paying up to $2,500/day.

Remember the time a Southern mother drove her kids into a pond and drowned them, The entire nation was shocked. Beyond words. Pundits, searching to make sense of it all, even blamed her husband for not getting her enough mental health help, or not being home more for her, or failing to recognize more of the signs. TV had advice to parents to relieve their children's fears that they, too, might be drowned and the best way to explain this shocking story to the young ones. The national discussion went on for days. Today, I see a news story about some mother or father killing their 3 children, I don't bother to read the article past the first couple of sentences...if that. Conditioned I guess.

I really expected a firestorm about paid protestors for Jan 20.......ain't happening. Even got them planning mayhem for the Inauguration on audio. Crickets. Means justify the ends. It is almost like the Left expects from their party goons for this to happen. There better be some rioting, chaos, and head cracking!! We expect carnage!

What has been smoked out into the open is how nasty, how dirty, how vicious, how dispectible they are. True colors. I knew they were some real mean SOBs, but even moi am surprised. And they cry foul for months over uttering "grab the passé". It's who they really have become. Soulless. They have unmoored themselves from anything resembling a conscious. What makes matters worse, is they well funded.
Welcome to today's America. The only sound from the smoldering timbers is crickets.

George Rebane

Such disrespect is ingrained in their value system and explains away their silence on the matter.

Off topic, but on thread. Excuse my errant ways.

RE Disrespect, ridiculed, excommunicated, and with so many arrows in our backs we look like porcupines, yet somehow still standing at the end of the day.

When I get discouraged and grow weary of the barrage lately, I remind myself that Trump won the popular vote in the 49 states outside of CA. I remind myself that there are more of us than of them. It's hard to see it and feel it living where we live.

When I grow weary, I realize that the only one who still appears to be striking back with unlimited energy and ready to pounce like a cornered tiger is Trump. I remind myself that the real haters represent only 20-25% of the nation and the media is their microphone. They are but mere mortals on stilts, not giants. The bark is frightening, so much bigger than the bite.

When I get discouraged and feel overwhelmed, I remember those 30,000 souls standing in sub-freezing weather at 1:30 am on Election Day early morn awaiting to cheer and energize the exhausted Trump stumbling and staggering to finally reach the finish line and hear him say one last time together we can do this, we will win, and win, and win.....even when the media mocked him for even setting foot in Michigan, when losing looked certain, but not an option. Those 30,000 frozen pairs of boots in the open field did not give up, did not cave in the last hours of the long bitter fight.

When I feel like I am alone in a hostile planet I can barely recognize as the place of my birth, I realize there stands in the mist the brave ones, the ones who have not bent their knee to Baal, the ones who may appear few but are in reality many, and my spirit is refreshed in the confidence they have my back and I have theirs.

California Strikes a Bold Pose as Vanguard of the Resistance

This will not end well for California and will have future consequences for the cities in this failing state.

In the months since the election of Donald J. Trump, California has turned into a laboratory of resistance — championing legal, legislative and political strategies to counter Republican policies while pressing the kind of new Democratic policies that presumably will not be coming out of Washington anytime soon.

The state lieutenant governor, Gavin Newsom, who is running for governor, said California could use its stringent environmental protection law to block Mr. Trump from building a wall along the Mexican border. In Sacramento, Gov. Jerry Brown and lawmakers are pressing bills to expand environmental protections, provide legal assistance for immigrants facing deportation and raise gasoline taxes to pay for highway construction.

“An earned-income tax credit,” said Anthony Rendon, the speaker of the Assembly. “Huge infusions for early-childhood education. Those types of things are certainly things that we are interested in doing.”

Democratic members of the California delegation to Congress are lining up to announce they will not attend the inauguration of Mr. Trump. And in Los Angeles, Sheila Kuehl, a member of the powerful county board of supervisors, has started what she has called “Operation Monkey Wrench,” urging people, including state and federal government workers, to systematically disrupt Trump policies that run counter to California laws and policies.

Then when we eventually swing back to an Obama type president.....maybe Gavin Newsom himself as the democrats try and shake their image as the white geriatric party in 2024.....they'll understand perfectly when this is reciprocated.

No better or funnier example of confirmation bias and the willful spread of propaganda can be found... a testament to the power of satire.

Conservatives who enjoy Schadenfreude from time to time will enjoy "Democrats: Left in the Lurch" from NBC News

For Frisch, despite the huge pile of horsecrap, he may want to dig into it as if there's that many roadapples, there's got to be a pony in there somewhere.

Todd Juvinall

Tucker was not convinced but other mainstream media shows and papers gave the guy credibility. Tucker said from the start the guy was a liar and all he was pushing was horse shit. So it appears the conservative news people are the ones that tell the truth. Good for FOX News.

Todd Juvinall

The Union's Editor Bran Hamilton had quite the screed today. Now I understand why the paper runs those liberal articles and allows the AP free reign. Sad.

Paul Emery

Since you're still on the topic of accused Russian assistance to the Presidential election (re Kennedy reference) this is appropriate.

In this quote Trump very specifically states he met Putin

"I own Miss Universe, I was in Russia, I was in Moscow recently and I spoke, indirectly and directly, with President Putin, who could not have been nicer, and we had a tremendous success. "

Yet August 2016 Trump is quoted as saying ""No, just so you understand, he said very nice things about me, but I have no relationship with him. I don't -- I've never met him. … I have no relationship with Putin. I don't think I've ever met him. I never met him. "

Another Trump lie?

Todd Juvinall

Here is my response to Brian Hamilton's screed today.

OK I get it that you don't like Trump. But why so biased? Thin skinned? No, he is not. He simply does not allow someone to attack him without a response. I find it interesting you glossed over Lewis' "illegitimate" claim (which he did to GW Bush as well) and attacked Trump. And you left out the democrats not going to the inauguration and their attacks on those that want to attend as entertainers. Why is that? Steve Harvey is getting many death threats apparently, and just for meeting with Trump. Is that "thin skinned" of the democrats and their people?

Your screed shows us why no one believes your profession any more. No fairness, no balance and totally biased. It shows up in what you pick to out in the paper and who gets to comment from your Editorial Board. I have been a subscriber for fifty years as were my folks. I will continue because I like to see what the opposition does. Obama lost, Trump won.

Regarding the "tone". No doubt Obama speaks well and has a pleasant voice. He reminds me of the scorpion on the frog. Now with his pardon of Chelsea of Wikileaks infame, you really should look inside yourself for Obama's reasons. Did Obama set it up to defeat Hillary by doing this. He had a relationship with the traitor? Did the democrats not excoriate Wikileaks and now their President pardoned the source? Come on, do a OP_ED about that would you please?

Todd Juvinall

Gregory @ 8:53 am.
Another great article you have posted. Akin to your American Thinker link about Political Correctness that resonates with me and I still kick it about in my noggin.
A money quote for me is:

"Three-quarters of liberals say they prefer to live where “the houses are smaller and closer to each other, but schools, stores, and restaurants are within walking distance,” according to a Pew survey. An equal portion of conservatives say they prefer places where the houses are larger, but amenities are more distant..."

That quote may explain Steve's surprisingly (to me at least) thinly veiled contempt for "rural" voters. The quote above is a direct threat to stack and pack surrounded by open space. We be bitter clingers and Deplorables...no doubt. Or as Dr. Rebane might say, a threat to Agenda 21. I moved here....by choice as a compromise between the "too many rats in the cage" and the boonies where it was a 70 minute drive to the nearest ER/ clinic to get patched up. Or a 3 hour drive to the nearest Sam's Club to stock up in provisions.
Them Irredeemables got Midwestern Values far outside of the Mid-West. Go figure. Ah well, they will all die off sooner or later. Patience, Steve, patience. :)

Every year after the livestock auction at the Fair, you can count on a Letter to the Editor asking basically why in the hell is Nevada County still classified as a rural county? That's insane. Our own little culture war being played out across the vast wasteland known as flyover country.

Demographic changes and projections are valid. No agrument here. Mike Barone has spent his life digging into every precinct in the Midwest and rural Pennsylvania and penned a short essay "Where did the black voters go?" Answer: They moved. Moved from the North to the Sun Belt.

What he did was nothing. All the signs were there that big money was gaming the system and were gonna ride it to the end. Trump himself admits to being one of the gamers. I'm anticipating the usual responses Bush derangement syndrome etc. this only came up because Todd was saying I was a Obama supporter and I responded appropriately.

This is a quote from our fearless leader

Two years before the housing market collapsed in 2008 and millions of Americans lost their homes, Donald Trump said he was hoping for a crash.
"I sort of hope that happens because then people like me would go in and buy," Trump said in a 2006 audiobook from Trump University, answering a question about "gloomy predictions that the real estate market is heading for a spectacular crash."

The U.S. housing bubble burst two years later, triggering the stock market crash of 2008 that plunged the U.S.

Paul Emery

I mean if Trump anticipated it was was going to happen why didn't Bush know?

Re: the Fear, the fear, the fear! Be afraid, be very afraid. Why the meltdown into a puddle of fear? The meltdown seems unprecedented. The wailing and gnashing of teeth appears unprecedented to me in my lifetime. Why the fear???!

Russ posted a link that is great, albeit hidden in another post. Storytime: Once I hopped in the car and the girls screamed out, "Dad, your seatbelt!" I realized that they have never known a time where seat belts were considered an extra....an option on a car. I realized that second that they would never know what it is like to jump in the back of a pickup and ride into town...without seat belts in the bed. Or dogs in the back without restraints.
Kim Kommando, the Digital Goddess, once took her young boy to the Smithsonian. The boy pointed and asked, "What's that, Mom?" She instantly realized her son will grow up in a world where he did not know what "that" is. Never seen one before. It was a typewriter.

Why the fear, why are the libs paralyzed and gripped with terror? Cause they have never known anything else. It's such a foreign concept. How could this have happened? Who among us could have even conceived of this outcome? Which one of our neighbors could support Trump? How did they sneak into our safe place, our safe world?

Do you think there is a button in the Oval Office that launches nuclear missiles? There is a chain of command to launch, no president gets to launch on his own. You were in the military, what did they instruct you about illegal orders? Todd the mid jokes are getting a little old can't you do better than that. Also the bush derangement crap

Paul emery

That's med jokes

Todd Juvinall

No I can't Paul because they are accurate. If you would regain some sanity in your ridiculous musings here, maybe we would stop laughing at you.

Bill Tozer

@ 12:06 pm
Oh goodie. I love history lessons.

Let's so back to the Beatnik days! The Commie Bastards where going to nuke us into oblivion. Well, facing that threat and nowhere to hide, the operative phrase was "Better Red than Dead". The Pinkos (recycled Marxists from the 30's) still going strong in academia picked it up and regurgitated from their lofty perches to young students in our institutions of higher learning. Then the 60's anti-war movement came along and the phrase lost its zeal. Only the professors of enlightenment remained, but I digress.

So, no worries Paul. Now that Trump has pulled out his knee pads and crawled under Putin's desk and positioned himself in the perfect spot, we might all say "Better Red than Dead." Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join them. We will be spared a horrible fate. I bring you glad tidings.

Or, if you prefer, Better Dead than Red Wine. :)

Bill Tozer

Paul growing tired of med jokes? Whatever happened to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee? I would suggest more rope-a-dope until we wear ourselves out abusing our only surviving active card carrying member of The Bush Degrangement Syndrome.

Play it again Sam. Can't believe he played at the ole conservative lilly white high school back in the day. That be Goldwater Country. Well, at least they banned Eldridge Cleaver after Jim Morrison carved profanities in the back stage chairs and tore up the amps after the principle pulled the plug on the young artist's microphone. Wild times, boy-in-law.
Memory Lane....

Paul Emery

Well
walt can you explain why Bush didn't have a clue about the upcoming housing crash and Trump was already licking his chops about all the money he was going to make after millions of Americans lost everything they had in the real estate crash. Show me one warning Bush gave to the American people about the upcoming doom to economy.

Todd Juvinall

Med joke are anathema but ganja posts are OK? Wow!

Don Bessee

Poor PE, burdened with repeating the Bush derangement syndrome cycles, now its just the same old, tired, retread Trump stories over and over and over again. Poor PE.

The Washington Times says 0 actually won something, he managed to have the worst legislative history of any President. He only signed 1227 bills, even less than 1 termers like Carter and Bush I.

A legacy built on sand that is being washed away as we speak. You can be sure 0 is taking his pen with him but President Trump has a nicer one all ready to go in 48 HOURS PE!

Paul Emery

Don't smoke myself. Do you Todd?

Walt

Paul. Can you explain to me why LIBS thought is was a great idea to give loans to those they knew damned well could never pay them back?
Bush probably said, You want this? it's your ass when it falls around your ears.

Cry a river Paul. LIBS did it. They own it. Just like the unaffordable care act.

Paul Emery

Don

Why are you asking me to defend Obama? Didn't vote for him second time around. A good man I believe but not yet up for the job. Now we have your guy . I wish him luck but in my view he does not have the temperament, being a narcissist egomaniac sexist, to do the job. We'll see. Rest assured I will contribute my daily commentary for your reading pleasure.

Don Bessee

No one is asking you to defend 0 but you do constantly with your Bush derangement syndrome. Do everyone a favor and at least get some fresh material, please! ;-)

Walt

Anyone paying attention to the hearings? All of a sudden LIBS are concerned about the debt going up when the unaffordable care act is put down like the rabid dog it is.

Bill Tozer

Breaking News! The Trump Hotel empire has launched a new line of salad dressing for all its guests. A beautiful bottle of Russian dressing is to be placed in every room as well as in the terrific restaurants and country clubs on the greens.

What he did was nothing. All the signs were there that big money was gaming the system and were gonna ride it to the end.

Yep....no doubt about it......all Bushes fault. Reminds me of when Reagan was president and he used to sneak out of the White House to sell crack and impregnate underaged girls!*

Fish, you are on a roll today. I can't stop laughing. Anybody notice that the heavy mood that filled the air yesterday has lifted and a general sense of levity has replaced it....even on talk shows and normally glum people. I give Maxine and the usuall Dem overreach all the credit. Life is good.

Walt, more salad dressing for the Obama Legacy: its on topic!

Walt

Does paul's memory recall that LIBS are the party of big money? Does PE forget that Hillary was the whore of Wall St.?

Paul Emery

Didn't support Hillary Walt. Why do you mention that?

If Bush was so smart Fish why didn't he warn the American people about what was about to happen? Perhaps he didn't know or perhaps his legions were Trump types that were waiting to gobble up the scraps. What is your best thought on this? I appreciate your insight being a fellow Johnson supporter.

George Rebane

re PaulE's 1257pm - Here's another one of these 'what's it got to do with anything' questions. Neither Bush2, nor the Fed, nor the Council of Economic Advisers, nor, for that matter, any council of economic advisers in the country, nor the CBO, nor the OMB, nor the worldwide securities markets knew that the crash was coming. The only ones who predicted it were a few astute individuals who saw that the politically correct and Congress mandated lending policies would eventually cause the real estate markets to go off the cliff. Singling out Bush2's knowledge of the coming recession is beyond silly since the WH had the least to do with that.

How on earth should I know why Bush didn't do anything. A warning might have set the thing off. So I got nothing for you.......Ron Paul was on it though.....pity nobody listened!

"Ironically, by transferring the risk of a widespread mortgage default, the government increases the likelihood of a painful crash in the housing market," Paul predicted. "This is because the special privileges granted to Fannie and Freddie have distorted the housing market by allowing them to attract capital they could not attract under pure market conditions. As a result, capital is diverted from its most productive use into housing. This reduces the efficacy of the entire market and thus reduces the standard of living of all Americans.

"Despite the long-term damage to the economy inflicted by the government's interference in the housing market, the government's policy of diverting capital to other uses creates a short-term boom in housing," Paul went on. "Like all artificially created bubbles, the boom in housing prices cannot last forever. When housing prices fall, homeowners will experience difficulty as their equity is wiped out. Furthermore, the holders of the mortgage debt will also have a loss. These losses will be greater than they would have otherwise been had government policy not actively encouraged over-investment in housing.

"I hope today's hearing sheds light on how special privileges granted to GSEs distort the housing market and endanger American taxpayers," Paul concluded. "Congress should act to remove taxpayer support from the housing GSEs before the bubble bursts and taxpayers are once again forced to bail out investors who were misled by foolish government interference in the market."

Someone kick the table that Paul's record player is on. The needle is stuck. The same old crap over and over and,,....

Bill Tozer

Walt @ 1:40 pm.

The firebug is from California. Why am I not surprised? Probably from the Sanctuary City of San Fransicko.
If I was there, I would have run inside the terrific Trump Plaza, grabbed a coat hanger from housekeeping and a bag of marshmallows from the kitchen. Then, after a couple of beautiful delights toasted to perfection, I would have run back inside to have someone call 911.

Walt

I don't now Bill,, that meat was spoiled before is even started cooking.
The grease that was in that hair would ruin even marshmallows.
The idiot didn't even know he wasn't supposed to put himself out. That's not how that kind of protest works. Stupid SHOULD hurt. I doubt Covered CA. covers that. Besides. He's in NY.

Walt

Since Paul dislikes "big" money,, he should love this.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/01/18/hyperinflation-renders-venezuela-nation-broke-millionaires.html

Bill Tozer

Good points, Walt. Gotta be careful what you put in your body. He got 3rd degree burns over 10% of his body. Ouch. I hope it's not the same 10% where the butt crack bomber got burned approaching the runway in Detroit that fateful Christmas Eve.

-----------------------------------------
Update #1. Don, Trump is not going to put the pen to the Exucitive Order paper until Monday.
-----------------------------------------
Upright #2, the hearings. Education Sec is the big one. All the Teachers Unions and all the liberal big guns have opened fire at DeVos on this one. It's their line in the sand. Should get ugly. But, they are powerless to stop her. Popcorn time.

"The controversy over the nomination of Betsy DeVos as secretary of education has been, if nothing else, clarifying. We now know that working to give poor kids more educational opportunities is considered a disqualifying offense for the Left.” —Rich Lowry

Paul Emery

Well noted Fish on Ron Paul's look at this. There are many others that predicted a crash that were totally ignored. No time right now to document that but I will follow up. Ron Paul had many insights into the roots of our current conditions including his essay "Why We Fight" that I have quoted many times on this blog.

Bush and the Congress were asleep at the wheel on this one. I cannot disagree with you more George.

Paul Emery

Interesting to note that the two greatest financial disasters of the last 100 years were after periods of Republidcan domination of the Pres, House and Senate. That's the great depression after Hoover and the Repubs and the great recession after Bush and the Repubs ( Yes the Dems controlled the House for 2 years but the Repubs had the House and Senate since '94 with that exception.

Todd Juvinall

Hoover was at the tail end of a huge growth in American economics. Bush had a democrat House and Senate his last two years. I blame the democrats.

Walt

Paul. LIBS destroyed the housing market, then went on to burn healthcare to the ground.
Whatever they touch turns to shit. See a pattern yet?

The Left coast is going to get a wake up call sooner than later. Those LIB run states believe they can put and end to coal by denying shipping facilities at the ports.
Another FED law being broken. (Interstate commerce act) Trump will fix that little problem.
Give him time. He can't fix all the ills LIBS have given us overnight. Trump is pacing himself. Only 5 exec.orders a day... for starters.

Sorry Todd the Repubs controlled the Senate it was 49-49 with the draw going to Cheney. There were two independents.

Well lets be honest Paul.....Sanders only calls himself an independent! He votes in near perfect lockstep with them!

Don Bessee

HAHAHA Independents, that a rich one PE. Sounds like cali will not get to keep making life tough on auto manufacturers. President Trumps EPA Secretary refused to say he would keep the CA emission standard waivers in place that let CA have its own standards. That should save everyone some $$. ;-)

Walt

Don. I sure hope the ethanol crap comes to an end. That mix is worthless. Not to mention costly in engine repairs.

Paul Emery

Walt

You didn't listen to the senate hearings today when Trumps energy nominee pledged to keep ethanol . Check it out. It's easy to find

Walt

Guess I missed that one. But that can change. Maybe he will pull a LIB trick and do the opposite of what one says. If enough bitch,,,,you know how that works Paul..
