George Rebane
In the aggregate, Millennials lack social skills. So conclude a number of studies as reported by NPR this morning. This adds to the list of significant deficits that our new generation has demonstrated (also reported here, here, here, and here). Most noteworthy are the problems that social services agencies, the military, and law enforcement departments are having hiring new people who know how to meet and communicate face-to-face with other humans. Both the police and military have hired consulting organizations to study the widespread problem and to develop training programs that will teach these young people the social skills that we formerly picked up from mom and dad, our schools and churches, and other places where human interaction was not stunted by politically correct protocols and abetted by the substitution of online social media. Modern times.
Obama finally reveals his demonstrated progressive penchant to have the means justify the ends. The man now reveals a significant part of his ideology in the recent issue of the Harvard Law Review in which he discusses individual rights and freedoms, and advancing criminal justice reform (here). A fundamental consideration in assessing the criminality of an act is known as mens rea or “the intention or knowledge of wrongdoing that constitutes part of a crime, as opposed to the action or conduct of the accused.” It is remarkable that in this lengthy essay our president never considers this seminal factor as he waxes eloquent on all kinds of things such as poverty, inequality, and racial profiling. But rejoice, now that it doesn’t matter, we finally have a look into the man who has brought a new level of counter-constitutional authoritarianism into our federal government.
George Soros is reported to have lost over $1B on Trump’s victory. The sumbich bet the wrong way on the election, going short on the markets knowing that Hillary would win and cause existing investors to head for the doors. That’s a billion less for him to invest in the nefarious organizations that promote global socialism and rule by the progressive elites. Thank the Lord for small speedbumps on the road to tyranny.
Nevada City is numero uno as the best city to live in west of the Mississippi. The Feb issue of Sunset – with Tom Coleman’s National Hotel on the cover - featured the 20 best cities, and our little town came out on top. Given this and the continued commercial success our celebratory events have had over the last year, it should put a little egg drippies on the faces of those who attacked local activist and NC councilwoman Reinette Senum for her inflammatory remarks about the nation’s police for which she publicly apologized. We all remember the long line stretching around the block of people waiting to excoriate her during a city council meeting last summer. According to the then reigning histrionicians (those versed in and given to the practice of histrionics), the viral propagation of Ms Senum’s unfortunate observations were supposed to sound the death knell for Nevada City’s businesses and as a place to live. Even I was taken to task for backing her right and duty to express the opinions of many of her constituents on a matter of national interest and debate. (more here and here) Full disclosure – Reinette is my longtime favorite liberal in Nevada County no matter how differently we see the world.
Senator Booker denigrates Senator Sessions at the Senate confirmation hearings. Booker impugns Sessions with allegations of racism and bias that not only have no basis in reality, but instead present a flood of evidence in Sen Session’s record along with testifying witnesses to counter every bit of the bullshit that Booker attempted to fling in his unprecedented testimony against a colleague. Of course Sen Booker had no trouble supporting the two clearly racist AGs who precede Sessions when he is confirmed. (And he apparently did himself no favors for attempting to assume the mantle of Obama in the Democratic Party's future.)
Soros took his shorts in the shorts! HoHoHo

Speaking of the hearings, anybody catch that new CA Senator grill the CIA nominee today on Climate Change? She makes Boxer look like Bab doesn't sleep upsidedown hanging from the rafters. If one ever wants to see a perfect example of the Decline of the Republic, watch Harris demand like Paul "Do you agree with 97% of Scientists, do you agree with NASA about climate change, do you agree with 97% of the scientists, repeat....ask question....demand an answer right now....repeat....ask same question....demand an answer now....repeat....demand...are we there yet? George, answer now!
Hmmm. I could think of other more pertinent questions for the future head of the CIA, but what do I know. Don't blame me for that one. I left the ballot blank on the CA Senate race. No wonder 89% of non Californians want CA to get the heck out of our formerly Great Nation. They will pay California to break off, but I digress.
Quote of the day from the hearings. Don't think he was asked about 97% of the scientists.

Millennials trail baby boomers in pay at same age
Millennial workers may be flush with cool benefits, but they are lagging in salaries.
Although they are better educated, millennials earn 20 percent less than their parents did at the same age. Millennials have a median household income of $40,581, according to an analysis of Federal Reserve data released Friday.
[ooo]
The Fed report compared 25-34-year-olds in 2013, the most recent year available, to the same age group in 1989 after inflation adjustments. Home ownership for the age group was 43 percent in 2013, down from 46 percent in 1989. However, the rate has improved for millennials with a college degree relative to boomers.
In addition, median net worth of millennials is $10,090, a decrease of 56 percent for boomers in 1989, according to the report.

Maybe he reduction in income is because they lack social skills?
Posted by: Russ | 13 January 2017 at 09:09 AM
Russ 909am - Yes, that report is making the rounds, but I haven't seen anyone surmise that maybe the real reason for their financial performance is that millennials don't graduate with skills that many people are willing to pay for. Citing a college degree today does in no way suggest that the graduate is capable of much more than jobs where they ask, 'Would you like fries with that?'
Posted by: George Rebane | 13 January 2017 at 09:43 AM
George, I'd cut Millennials a bit of slack since, as a collegiate group, they've been graduating into a horrible business climate with truly onerous student debt.
My kid's cohort, just getting out of grad schools, were faced with whole language and whole math when they started the first grade; the schools failed many of them, and the successes were often in spite of our schools, not because of them.

Gregory 1134am - The migration/expansion of college degrees from necessary to useful to nice-to-have to silly is none of my doing. But the reports of the aftermath of awarding such degrees stand on their own. The colleges and the naive students dispensed with slack on their own some time ago.

If you want to stay abreast of the curve, the new call out is 'bullying'.
Anyone who points out that a leftie has opined nonsense with no factual basis and challenges the author on his/her facts has engaged in 'bullying'.
The darling snowflakes of the left have had their opinions validated for so long by the bubble of protection from reality, that they are paralysed by conflicting facts and thoughts.
Trumps election was actually the big pin prick of reality into millions of dim wits' zeitgeist that had no real connection to the a world that existed all around them, but was invisible to them due to their bigotry and snobbery.
The very idea that proles and serfs that have no college education can elect a POTUS of the likes of Trump has become the nightmare of those who cloister themselves in their tiny little garrets of leftie correctiveness.
"OMG - you mean some grubby little man that has cracked fingernails and doesn't read Camus has the same right to vote as I do?"
Bullying.

Well, based solely on observation and keeping an open mind, I might start believing in man made Climate Change. Seeing Snowflakes melt from last autumn through the next four years got me thinking.
About the hearings. Observing the Alt-left throwing out question after question about the special concerns of Transgenders in the hiring of and treatment of in each department the nominees are going to run, I have concluded that the Left has not ventured pass identity politics. It is like stunted growth or something. Identity politics to the left is not everything, it's the only thing.

"Observing the Alt-left throwing out question after question about the special concerns of Transgenders in the hiring of and treatment of in each department the nominees are going to run, I have concluded that the Left has not ventured pass identity politics."
I would hope that each and every person tasked with fielding that question would answer by saying that they will see to it that the most qualified person for the position will be hired, irrespective of what or how they pleasure themselves in their own privacy. "Next question!"

Here Paul Emery.
Democrats are doing all they can to try and delegitimize the election of Donald Trump. Well guess what democrats? Ain't gonna happen. Half the country likes his election so right there you have a major problem. And all your gnashing of teeth and whining are not changing his overwhelming victory in the Electoral College. That is how we elect our President and VP in America for the 240 years of the country's existence. Not changing the rules for you babies.
And all this Russian stuff is bogus. If they wanted to help Hillary why would they not know about the EC? And what, did they keep her from campaigning in those rust-belt states? No, she lost the election and her minions were wiped out in Congress and state legislatures for one major reason. The democrats are EXTREME! The American people cannot stand them anymore. But they are still trying to steal the election. Just like a two bit dictator in a third world country. Sorry democrats, take your complaints and strategy to Guatemala. It is not working here. And please, stop all that finger pointing and complaining about Donald Trump.
He beat you fair and square and you are now just a bunch of liberal saps complaining like you always do about every thing. America is better than you and your failed policies. Ocare is on its way to the dustbin. Free markets are best. Trump will get your regulatory pals out and freedom loving people in. It is one week to go and you are all coming across as desperate little people without ethics or morals. Stop it and please, shut your pie holes and let the grownups take charge.

Drip...drip...drip...the slow and steady build up of damaging information about collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia is only beginning...the denials, lying and obfuscations that lead to his downfall are only beginning...the conditions for conflicts of interest between his business empire, his family and public service are only beginning...the conflicts between his positions and those of his cabinet officials are only beginning...the conflicts with the Senate foreign relations committee, with Rubio, Flake and Paul on board, are only just beginning...the disappointments to his rural constituents when he begins to service his big business regressive economic interests are only beginning, and the profound disappointment Americans will realize being represented on the world stage by a bloated, bigoted, misogynistic, bully are just beginning.

Frisch @ 649- There was no need for a use of force resolution, that was an 0 game to diminish the terror war resolution on the books. They did not care a lick about the Constitution for the last eight years and now they are suddenly digging through it looking for a loophole. Well, that is not quite totally accurate. They spent the last eight years either dreaming about changing the Constitution or urging Obama to find a way around it. But, it most certainly does not hurt for them to start reading it now.
They got sick and tired of people of the right and true libertarians quoting the Constitution to them. We became objects of their ridicule. My, what a pleasant turn of events. Always a silver lining.

Since you're still on the topic of accused Russian assistance to the Presidential election (re Kennedy reference) this is appropriate.
In this quote Trump very specicically states he met Putin
"I own Miss Universe, I was in Russia, I was in Moscow recently and I spoke, indirectly and directly, with President Putin, who could not have been nicer, and we had a tremendous success. "
Yet August 2016 Trump is quoted as saying ""No, just so you understand, he said very nice things about me, but I have no relationship with him. I don't -- I've never met him. … I have no relationship with Putin. I don't think I've ever met him. I never met him. "
Another Trump lie?
