PaulE 1249pm old sandbox - That NK's first nuclear test was under Bush2 must evoke another instance of your special logic; pray tell, what conclusion do you draw from that factoid? Everyone else, please fasten your seat belts.

ScenesFromTheApocalypse

The Paul sez: "First North Korean nuclear test was under bush's watch. Do you deny that Scenes?"

I couldn't tell you. What do you consider a nuclear 'test'? Perhaps you could run through the set of steps from chalkboard to a fully operational device for us. It might have been under Bush II, but actually throwing a switch is the easy part.

Truth is, Clinton left something of a mess for his successor, like any good President. A better argument would be what Bush Sr. did wrong that Clinton couldn't clean up, and in fact made quite a lot worse. I suspect that it would be impossible to find a really good bottleneck where this could have been avoided. A country like the US has to be willing to lose 10's (or 100's) of thousands of casualties in order to truly bring NK to heel. That's after Seoul gets whacked on a bit, you might want to ask GeorgeR what the likely effect of the estimated NK artillery barrage would be.

You probably ought to be planning that war with Russia first before the high strategy for blaming Republicans for the various Kims starts up.

George Rebane

Harry J Kazianis is the perfect western mouthpiece for the Fat Kid. In ‘A war with North Korea would be hell – And the aftermath even worse’ he lays out how he and the Fat Kid would want us to consider what would happen if we don’t back down and let NK go through the next cycle of advanced WMD development. Mind boggling how much of this tripe is coming down the pipe.

Do you deny that Scenes?"

Well….. do you deny it? DO YOU?!?!?

Walt

All that appeasement we did with NK worked great. Right Paul?
Lil' Kim forgets he's not dealing with "O". No extortion payment will be coming.

Now that fatboy has said he will "do something" (launch missiles Paul,,) his people will expect that to happen. What will he tell them if he doesn't? He needs to save face.. One way,,,, or another.
Kim can't back down as I see it. His own people will use him as target practice.
They don't think like we do. Those people have no problem dying for their leader. As far as they are concerned, that's a great honor.

LIBS always underestimate the enemy. No,,, "talking to them and apologizing" never works.

Walt

Here ya' go Paul. Bubba and NK.
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/08/09/flashback-president-clinton-threatens-north-korea-it-would-be-the-end-of-their-country-as-they-know-it/
And how people think now.
Clinton would go on to negotiate an “Agreed Framework” in 1994 that was hailed as a way to prevent North Korea from getting a nuclear weapon, a deal that is now widely accepted as being a complete failure.

Walt

Now here would be a good excuse to why NK got wiped off the map.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/asteroid-shave-past-earth-inside-moon-orbit-esa-155009565.html

Damn.. We screwed up with the slide rule. NO!! Honest!! WE didn't do it. A rock just fell from the sky. It was just bad luck that it hit Punn Tang.

Paul Emery

George

I was going off of this timetable. Is it incorrect?

http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/29/world/asia/north-korea-nuclear-timeline---fast-facts/index.html

George Rebane

PaulE 228pm - Didn't contend your timetable. Just want to know your reason for noting it for us.

Paul Emery

Just to put the NK issue in a little perspective. My contention is Bush 2 was the worst President in modern history and this is an other example. He goes after IRAQ and loses the farm elsewhere.

Russ

DNC was an insider, not the Russian's

HUGE IF TRUE: The Nation says DNC “hack” was actually an inside job. “The Nation, hardly a bastion of right-wing conspiracists, picks up the story that the alleged Russian hack of the DNC was in fact an inside job. This notion has percolated on the right for a while but now the Democracy Dies In Darkness crowd will need a bigger pillow. Between this and the Awan-Wasserman non-story they have a lot to not cover.”

From The Nation: “There was no hack of the Democratic National Committee’s system on July 5 last year—not by the Russians, not by anyone else. Hard science now demonstrates it was a leak—a download executed locally with a memory key or a similarly portable data-storage device. In short, it was an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system.”

My position from the beginning.

George Rebane

PaulE 242pm - So NK suddenly started its nuke program after Bush2 became president and then perfected an explodeable device which it immediately tested during his presidency. That logic is about par for the course, and I now see why you don't like Bush2. Thanks.

Walt

Paul. You pointed out the timetable of kicking the can down the road. Well guess what?
The road has come to an end.
So what do we do if Lil' fatboy fires those missiles as advertised? Nothing?
Just accept he has them and give him more money?
As usual your full of gripes, and short on answers.

Walt

Now Russ. You know the LIBS and gov. in general ain't going to cop to being "mole-ed"
As outside agency just had to hack them. And if there is ANY way to brand Trump with it, they will. Even if it takes 4 or 8 years.

re: GR@2:48PM

lol. Exactly. There's no point in context, no point in domain knowledge, just a world with several bullet items all leading to Bush or a reasonable facsimile. Understanding via PowerPoint.

Don't read this part Paul...

From the outside, it looks to me like there has been little change in US foreign policy for a couple of decades. This hobby in remaking MIddle Eastern and Northern African countries has the look of a philosophy cooked up by some sort of professional government class that isn't turned out from a mere election (except perhaps this last one, but that remains to be seen). The fact that there's a tiny chance that the new administration isn't going to have a fixation on tearing down existing power structures in third world nations to be replaced by tribal conflict is of no value to the Green Libertarians. I doubt that the point in all this is to create refugee tsunamis which then get to move north, but it might as well be since the result is the same.

ScenesFromTheApocalypse

re: Russ@2:42PM

Do you have a link to that, I'll read it.

I did run into this one, a kind of op-ed:

https://www.thenation.com/article/unverified-russiagate-allegations-promoted-by-an-irresponsible-congress-and-media-have-become-a-grave-threat-to-american-national-security/

The risk of producing a hot war with Russia, at least through surrogates, seems to be well worth the effort in the ongoing 2016 election. Whatever it takes to boot out Trump regardless of cost in blood or money.

I expect that the Russia thing might fizzle out now that we have the Impeach-Trump-cuz-he's-mean-to-North-Korea story getting ginned up lickety split. It's equally dangerous, this time due to conflicting signals being sent to Mr. Kim, but once again cost is no object.

Ask the Paul some simple questions and he gets a tight as a bull's butt in fly season.
Better order that bunker Paul. My sources say your WAY too late.

Bun Bun

It is all the fault of ex CIA man G.H.W Bush who wasted time farting around with Saddam instead of taking out NK. He failed at that one too. Clinton tried to slow them down and G.W Bush wasted more time farting around with Saddam. Now it falls to the self proclaimed greatest orator ever whose staff is commanded to send him manly portraits of himself daily.
MAGA

Paul Emery

The greatest oratorr didn't learn from Obama who looked like an idiot after his so called redline in the sand in Syria. Now Trump promised fire and fury if American interests v we're even threatened. Hmm. What was this talk about lobbing one over on Guam. ? Bullshit only gets you so far when you're in the big leagues Ask Obama

Don Bessee

Bun bun thinks Clinton tried to slow them down, billions in cash and 2 reactors is slowing them down, what a maroon. ;-)

George Rebane

PaulE 531pm - "What was this talk about lobbing one over on Guam?" You may have missed the news, but it was the President responding to a detailed threat by NK to bracket Guam with multiple missile impacts that drew his overly measured response. Only a very dedicated leftwinger would take our president to task for responding to a certifiably insane and belligerent foreign leader threatening to put one of our sovereign territories into the middle of his missile test impact area. You might want to pay a bit more attention to these developments. More here.

Scott Obermuller

"Bullshit only gets you so far when you're in the big leagues Ask Obama"
Elected and re-elected as president and he got your vote, Paul - so actually BS does go a long way in this brave new world.
And according to Paul's measure of wonderfulness - the polls - it worked very well for Obama.
So - what was your point Paul?
Remember "we begin bombing in 5 minutes"? It does work when the enemy thinks you mean it. Obama was a push over from the very beginning. And everyone knew it. Well, actually Paul didn't, but everyone with a lick of sense. You can call Trump any name you want, but he's proven to be a wild card. That helps when you're dealing with the commies.

Walt

Well,, bunnyrabbit must not have been born yet to cast stones at Bush. Nuff said.

Paul. You can bet your last bottle of Rye that Trump can and will pull the trigger.
He's not nutless like "O" was. My only prediction is that "we" won't use nukes...

Now recall the discussion of airborne laser weapons from a while back? This was/is the exact reason they were dreamed up and built for. The moment a launch in detected, that laser can cause that missile to fail and rain down on where it came from. All from international air space.

Paul Emery

George trumps statement came before the Guam threat. Your timeline is backwards.

Walt

Show that fact Paul.. Your the one who's always demanding a link.
Now don't forget all the other threats from short Fatbastard of NK. So pick one.

The easy rejoinder is that if we take the first hit we will strike back at N Korea and ALL major cities of countries historically allayed with N Korea.
The bombing starts in 5 minutes.
Ball's in your court, Jinping.

Don Bessee

It was good to have Australia remind everyone they will stand up if fat kim fires anything toward Guam, it would also mobilize the treaty with Japan. While we do not have the same force structure we had, we do however have a massively more efficient reach out and touch somebody combined arms and the ability to mask its approach. ;-)

Scott Obermuller

This has possibly been brought up some where, but I've never seen anything about it in any left or right wing news article.
China has for years now been dredging and 'developing' an island in the ocean in contested waters for the stated purpose of 'scientific research'. What kind of ecological damage are they doing out there?
Where is Greenpeace? Where is PBS and their vaunted look into ecological damage to the fragile system in that area?
Where is the 'Green' libertarian?
Photos of the island show absolutely no scientific research. It is clearly being used as a power grab of territory through devious means. It is patently obvious that China is continuing on a decades long course of extending their borders through violence, war and lies.
The rest of the world is strangely silent about all of this.
I say park the 7th Fleet offshore and offer to 'help' the Chinese govt with their stated goal of scientific research. Who would complain?

George Rebane

ScottO 1026pm - Can you imagine the reaction of the livid Left if an American corporation or even our federal government had done such dredging for whatever reason? Now since it is their soul mates, all we hear is crickets.

Thanks. It's all stuff that has been out there, but has finally bubbled up to a more traditional news organization. A less indirect report:

Put more succinctly:

https://pics.me.me/trump-colluded-with-russia-trump-is-in-bed-with-putin-25453221.png

As I (probably for the n'th time) mentioned, it likely won't matter. The marching orders are out that North Korea is the next campaign in the 2016 election. Kim is a friend rather than Russia being an enemy, but whatever it takes. The local Green Libertarians are late getting the memo, but they'll come around.

ScenesFromTheApocalypse

re: GeorgeR@11:52PM

It's probably a lot to ask a group of people to be on message all the time in all matters.

The 'Livid Left' in this case appears to be the subset of urban white professionals (and wanna-bes) who produce media, schooling, and most of the bitching. It's certainly not all of the Left, but is good at grabbing the steering wheel for the whole coalition.

My own and probably over-simplistic model is that the Livid Left has a hierarchy of needs but nothing Maslow would recognize. This seems to be a transnational pyramid.

As an example hierarchy, unlimited immigration from the third world (and deification of non-Western cultures) is on top, followed by black issues (US only), LGBTQMNOP values, women's issues, the environment, and at the bottom are social policies like taxes or healthcare. For instance, a political street fight between Muslim immigrants and a women's group will always result in victory for the former.

So, environmental effects of an action (which can be real enough) are so low in the pyramid that they rarely get traction. The exception would be when you can make political hay in some more important issue.

Todd Juvinall

I looked for Sauer's column you reprinted her but was unable to find it. So here is my brief response to the Itara dude's screed against Norm in today's paper.

"What a load of hooey! The author is critical of Mr. Sauer's column claiming no backup yet I found not one link or piece of proof of fact in this. Typical liberal "do as I say, not as I do" way of thinking. All the issues of "voter suppression" are contained within the mind of Itara. The reason voter turnout is down is people are fed up with politics and the politicians. Not because Bruno is turning away a voter. And Bush v Gore is in the "wayback" and was roved by the numerous recounts Bush won. The SCOTUS simply said Gore could not cherry-pick the democrat counties and he must have a statewide recount. So he quit.

And Citizen's United has all the liberals hearts aflutter. Eve though Trump was self-funded and Itara's Hillary raised and spent one billion dollars must have been overlooked? My goodness, the democrats are on the run across America for reasons other than fraud or suppression. They have no decent agenda and Americans are fed up and moving to the party of ideas and hope. Republican.

Scenes 635pm – By now you should know what I believe the geo-political aims of international Left are. The reduction of the US to second world peerage is job one, and that can only be done by abrogating the Westphalian convention of sovereign nation-states that begins with porous borders, multi-culturalism (non-assimilation), and the destruction of existing forms of constitutional governance. The rest will follow naturally.

Don is cherry picking polls. The RCP average shows Trump at 38%, lowest in history at 200 days. Interestingly enough the IBD/TIPP poll shows Trump down by 27$ with only 32% support. They were the most accurate poll in last years election,

"The most accurate poll that surveyed likely voters was the Investor’s Business Daily poll, a poll that has one of the finest records for calling races in recent political history. It was one of the only polls that called the race for Trump in the final days of the election, giving him 45 percent of the vote compared to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. "

Some time ago in these pages I suggested that our first phase response to NK would be to position Aegis ships off its east coast and use the fat kid's ICBM tests to test our own anti-missile capabilities in shooting them down during their boost phase. (I realize that Aegis was designed for countering incoming warheads, but it does also have the ability to intercept laterally moving targets.) The ramifications of this response have been aired here (e.g. what if we miss?), but such an action would be carried out over international waters and applauded by our allies. This tactic is now also being discussed by the talking heads, since it is a measured and staged response way short of putting warheads and/or troops on NK soil.

I'm not surprised by PaulE (ably representing the Left's role in such discussions) doing a diversionary pirouette in his 1116am.

Walt

Name me one major poll Trump is "up" in.

Walt

Do your own looking. Polls are your porn of choice. If I found it, I know you can.
Back up to 45 or so Paul.

NO Fish!,, Not that plywood aged crap Paul drinks.

Bill Tozer

And Punchy solution to the Fat Guy's verbal pollution is....is.....is...polls and pot!

Walt

Since Paul's ponytail is way toooo tight,,
"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance."

Now how did you miss that Paul? Oh.. That's right. It's only bad news for Trump do you yap about.

Paul Emery

Walt, 45 is not "up" it's down. 51 is "up. Have you always had math and English problems?

Todd Juvinall

Paul Emery, come on now. What are your solutions to the NORK? You just don't have anything but a opinion on others. So we now see what a worthless diplomat you are. Or tell us your solutions and we might regain some of that lost respect we once may have had for your smarts.

Walt

Back your Nevada City math? Outcome based education kicking in? Damn short memory Paul.
Just last week the # was 35 or so. Last time I checked, "45" is greater than "35".
Check the label on whatever your taking.

Walt

SH&$!!! Missed that "to".

Paul Emery

Thanks for explaining your numbers Walt. In that you are correct.

Paul Emery

George

I wrote "The greatest oratorr didn't learn from Obama who looked like an idiot after his so called redline in the sand in Syria. " How does saying Obama looked like an idiot qualify me as being one who is "ably representing the Left's role in such discussions)"

George Rebane

PaulE 127pm - Well, you've fooled many of us on these pages with your constant anti-Trump drizzle that dun him from his poll standings to discrediting him for doing something original that might work with NK after all these generations. Your astounding call that 45% approval rating is still down after months of daily quoting how much the man has dropped in the last week, etc - that itself is mind-boggling, but then you are good at it ;-)

Sure would like to hear you answer what you would consider to be Trump's proper response to the Fat Kid.

Paul Emery

George Nothoing "astounding" about my reaction to the 45% Rasmussen number. In perspective he is still down nearly 19 % in aggregate polls and an astounding 27% in IPP which was the most accurate in the last election and the previous two elections before. Trying to put a smiley on Trumps poll numbers is a fools errand.

What I have been saying is emulating Obama's tact in Syria is making Trump look like a fool since it opens the door for NK to taunt his and do nothing but talk to make him look bad and do nothing,

I think you're idea to do target practice on missle tests is brilliant. Too bad Trump didn't have such mental resources. The latest "mutter one threat" will be challenged within days and Trump will do nothing so where will that leave him?

Fish, explain to me why the issue of not having a SK Ambassador in sight 200 days into his term is minutia?

Walt

OH nice try Paul.
"What I have been saying is emulating Obama's tact in Syria is making Trump look like a fool since it opens the door for NK to taunt his and do nothing but talk to make him look bad and do nothing"
I see you forgot that Trump DID do something in the sandbox. Chem weapons? Remember those?
Forget the missile strike to put Assad on notice? (they seem to have got the message)

Fatboy has yet to really do anything except shoot off his mouth, so there is nothing Trump can really do at this point except wait and see.
Just who is doing the "taunting"? Trump has been saying "IF you do "X" a shitstome comith"
The real fool is you at this point.

Todd Juvinall

Paul Emery will be the next draft pick of the "Dodgers". Let's hear your solutions fr NORK or just shut up about those who have. You are a phony-baloney. And if you have nothing, then say so.

First off Punch we know that the democrats (and frankly more than a few republicans) are arm twisting in order to slow walk all the presidential appointments. Second the position of Ambassador is so important, so vital, so absolutely crucial to the diplomatic efforts of the United States that they are routinely awarded to political flaks and big donors in gratitude for getting the latest mouth breathing idiot installed in the Oval Office.

Spare me yet another afternoon of Punch-E style pearl clutching!

Walt

One more from the history books.
The North Korean problem would have been taken care of in the 1950's had Democrat President Harry S. Truman not fired Five Star General Douglas MacArthur.
Dems started the Vietnam war too, and didn't finish the job, so the Left is 0 and 2 in the fighting dept. But batting 1000 at tail tucking and running.
Bubba could have had OBL's head given to him on a plate, but refused. So one could say Clinton allowed 911 to happen. But he did blow up an aspirin factory while getting blown.
We had to go back to the Gulf because the whining LIBS refused to allow Bush to finish the job the first time. " OH MYYYyyyy. There are dead people on the roads for all to see!!"
"WE gotta stop the killing by Bush! " Yup,, that worked out swell. Saddam uses chem weapons on his own people.

So when it comes to protecting the free world, NEVER ask a Liberal to do it. Need an example again? I give you "O". You know,, the guy with the piss yellow streak down his spine.

Punch-E 12:52

Paul, for that interpretation to hold and for you to keep a semblance of integrity, you'll have to wait until Trump to drop below 38% approval (the number on 2 Aug, nine days ago, to again claim he's "down". Will you be able to hold your glee if he drops half-way to there tomorrow?

That's what I thought.

Yes, he's back up to 45% approval by the Rasmussen daily poll of likely voters, and down to 53% disapproval.

Walt

Hay Fish.. Let me help ya' out here.

You know how the Paul gets,,,,,.
Hay Paul... Read it.. Some real "quality diplomat material"... Right?
But bitch about Trump.

Walt

All Trump did was make a couple of potholes in an obscure airbase in Syria that were quickly repaired and back in service in no time.

"Syrian warplanes took off from the air base hit by US cruise missiles yesterday to carry out bombing raids on rebel-held areas, in a defiant show of strength.

Just hours after the al-Shayrat airfield was bombed with 59 US Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from warships in the Mediterranean, aircraft struck targets in the eastern Homs countryside, according to a monitoring group......it is thought that an advance warning given by the US to Russia allowed Syria enough time to remove many of its aircraft before the raid.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/08/syrian-warplanes-take-air-base-bombed-us-tomahawks/ "

Walt

Trump "sent a message" Paul. Have you heard of any more movement or use of chem weapons since? Looks like the universal language of BOOM!! was well understood. Fatboy missed that memo.
Trump is a man of action, while your everyday politician does nothing but talk. You know,, like "O".. The guy you voted for.

Paul Emery

Which was a man of action too Walt especially in Iraq. Look what that brought us.

Bill Tozer

Oh, I remember Punch-E all upset when Trump struck Syria without his pre-approval and warning. Why, why, why, why. My answer was the element of surprise, something that sticks in the back of an adversaries mind.

Perhaps it was not about chemical weapons in and off themselves. Maybe a line in the sand. You crossed it, you get rapid response. No bluffs. Thus, it was sending a powerful message that we are just crazy enough to mean what we say.

But, the firing of missiles into Syria brought forth much fruit (Intel) that I am more in interested in for future use than blowing up a few buildings in reghead land. Not all 59(?) Tomahawk Missles made it through the Russian placed defensive batteries. Maybe half were shot down, maybe 29, maybe less, maybe. These anti-missle/anti aircraft defensive batteries are the new generation of Russian made weapons, the exact same ones now placed in Iran.

Remember Turkey shooting down the Russian jet flying over a far flung narrow finger of its terrority? Russians jets flew over that narrow finger many times, but suddenly Turkey fired at one and brought it down. After a couple of days of harsh words between Turkey and Russia, the whole incident was up in some file and buried. Not a perp since. Well, that is how the elitist pundits saw it.

I saw it differently. Turkey would have never shot down the Russian fighter without approval of NATO, aka, the US. Never. The US had never seen the 4th generation of Russian anti-aircraft systems in operations before. After the jet incident, the Soviet Military immediately moved its new babies into the region. Bingo! They fell for the ploy. Now we can buzz them and find out exactly what those babies can do, what there capabilities are. You know, what Saddam has, what Iran has, what our enemies have. The bombing of some chemical weapon storage depots far away from any populated areas should us what those Russian babies can to.

So, two things happened when we pot holed a runway. (I assume the reader is well aware that Tomahawk Missles are not designed to take out runways like cluster bombs and other munitions are.) Nay, they take out buildings, but I digress.

First, we will do what we say we will IF we chose to, if a line is crossed. We will take action or inaction at our timing, our terms, when we want. We decided, nobody else decides when, where, what for us.

Second, now we know more of the capabilities of the 4th generation Russian defensive batteries.
It's never as simple as black and white, yes or no. There are many components to the moving part.

re: The Paul@3:57PM

Exactly right. Which makes the tendency for Green Libertarians to give the 17 intelligence agencies the keys to the kingdom somewhat of a mystery to me.

We live in funny times. The newswarriors want to go to war with Russia and the GEOTUS wants to prod Kim a little bit. Who is right?

This last is a funny thing really. Do you let the North Koreans get away with things in perpetuity? at what time do you stop? The longer you let the situation fester (like monetary policy) the worse it will be when everything breaks down, *or* you can hope that the Eternal Leader of Juche Korea gets hit on the head by a general and you deal with a junta instead of a crazy dude. Nuclear weapons make a state a major player regardless of their economic or physical size.

Paul Emery

Trump talks military option in Venezuela Good grief

Walt

No Paul.. What it shows is LIBS know how to lose wars. They turn and run.
I'm done teaching you history. Talk'n to your enemy gets you nowhere.
The world is never going to sit down and sing kumbaya, in a big drum circle. That may only happen when the space invaders show up looking for galactic ethnic food.
Hippies will be the first to go. ( for a good buzz before beaming up the fat ones.)

Walt

Venez.? But Socialism is working so well there. Don't fret Paul. It will be for humanitarian reasons. You know,, what people with feelings for others do to protect the innocent.
BTW.. How is that "free Tibet" idea working out? Talk and bumper stickers are cheap.

Well, it looks like they took down Jared Kushner.

Walt we sure did win in a Iraq Under both Bush's How about Iran Contra That was a winner Oh yeah Vietnam Nixon sure won that war. Here is one that we won. Grenada. Way to go Reagan Korean War That sure was a winner under Eisenhower
Republicans sure won the war in Afghanistan
Yeah the Republicans really know how to how to win a war.

Todd Juvinall

Paul Emery, what are your solutions to the Nork issues? You seem to criticize everyone else so give it your best shot. But as we see you are a chicken sh** and clueless.

Venezuela is like Santa Domingo under LBJ. He sent in the Marines to stabilize the place if you recall. Could be the same issue.
