As Wildfires Raged, Insurers Sent in Private Firefighters to Protect Homes of the Wealthy

Insurers see boost in enrollments ‘as people have seen us save homes’; consumer advocates say programs mean rich get better protections

God forbid somebody should take matters in their own hands to protect themselves and their property!

George. we all know how the Lefty thinks. " Facts be damned, it's the seriousness of the charge that matters."
" Evidence?? WE don't need no stink'n evidence".

Bill Tozer

“In the process I was again accused of being a “traitorous ideologue” who should find a home on other shores. gjr]”

Dr. Rebane:
My, my, my. Well, today is Guy Fawkes Day, but he was not given the opportunity to find a home on distant shores, you traitorous ideologue, you! Afterall, you do reside in SOJ territory. If Dr. Rebane and his lovely bride are forced to flee for their lives because their thoughts do not match their zip code, I reckon I could make some room here for the honorable couple. Oh, I hand wash my clothes and dishes as a habit, but I am certain the Rebane family can adapt and maybe JoAnn will show me how to use that automatic dish washing machine I have never used. Others have told me it works fine, but I prefer to use it for storage of extra pots, pans, and work boots.

The last traitor I read about was given a simple dishonorable discharge. That was....what, 3-4 days ago?

Abortion is a very contentious issue. Not new news. Some (many) believe it is murder, plain and simple, no matter how you phrase or spin it. Scott Peterson was charged and convicted of 1st degree murder for killing his wife Lacy and convicted of 2nd degree murder for killing their unborn child, Connor.

I see most abortions as just child sacrifices to the Statist Gods. Child sacrifices were practiced by the Incas, the Philistines, and too many other cultures to list here. Guess they all got their Judgement Day from unanticipated events. But, what do I know. They are all gone with the wind.

I happen to believe that life passes through the womb, not from the womb. But, again, that’s just me. Minds will not be changed. I like to believe that most people in their heart of hearts have a nagging belief that terminating a helpless life that has committed not a shed of evil is wrong, even if they are pro-choice and anti-war or anti-death penalty. I comfort myself in the belief that it just bothers them somewhere buried deep inside their subconscious. A very comforting thought I can never prove.

I will put a candle in the window for the gracious Rebane’s....just in case.

PS: Kenny of Grass Valley has been reminding everybody to turn their clocks back...for a couple of weeks now. I still forgot, despite Kenny’s enthusiasm and persistence.

George Rebane

BillT 1046am - Many thanks Mr Tozer for your kind offer of succor and sustenance; our hope is that the socialists ascendance in America is sufficiently measured to allow us to live out my/our years without once more having to flee.

re fish 1033am - Yes, more and more insurance companies are providing private fire fighting services, it pencils out as a financial win-win for insurer and insureds. We have USAA, the insurance company for the military and vets, and they provide such fire fighting protection to their policy holders in Nevada County. You don't have to be 'rich' to get that service.

Bad news from DiFi,, Libs,,,
http://dailycaller.com/2017/11/05/dianne-feinstein-says-she-still-hasnt-seen-evidence-of-collusion-video/

Scott Obermuller

"They are not true Americans and should seriously consider taking their destructive demagoguery to a country where the representative political system is further along the evolutionary path of repelling sociopathic extremism. And they should also pray deeply to their god that they do not get what they so malevolently envision as this country’s future."
Actually - folks that have decided that they should be judge and jury as to what is acceptable speech are the most un-American people I can think of. But I won't suggest that he leave. If he stays, he might get some proper education and learn something. The funniest (or saddest) aspect to the left being worried about Trump or one of his posse locking up gays is that the left are also the loudest about how we should welcome folks to this country that think gays should be executed, and women should be treated as private property.

Scott Obermuller

Oh yeah: "...they do not get what they so malevolently envision as this country’s future."
malevolently envision?
Wouldn't that be what R Crabb's post was?

Russ

Re Fish @ 10:30 AM

We are also USAA Insurance Customers and if our Nevada County home was threatened by fire they would send private firefighters to foam our house. They also sent a fire marshal to help us prepare for the eventual fire. We had cleared space, gravel fire breaks surrounding the house, rainbird sprinklers on the downhill side of the house and on the roof all connected to NID high-pressure water. We got an excellent rating from CalFire and USAA. We are not rich, just aware of the danger having been raised in the woods of Nevada County and USAA customers since 1960.

Bill Tozer

As the much demonized gay provocateur Milo once said (from memory).....The biggest threat to gays today is the devotees of Islam. Once it was the Christian Right that posed the treat in the past, but they are not even a threat nowadays.”

As the former head of the LA Chapter of NOW (as well as the CA go-to women’s rights activist spokesperson) has said many times.....again from memory.......’Without [homeland] security, all the issues of women’s and gay rights are a mute point.’ Tammy Bruce said that after realizing how 9/11 changed everything for her and put things in perspective....for her.

Carry on. Opps, how about another cartoon since Mr. Crabb has inspired a few comments. This cartoon had nothing to do with Mr. Crabb or his drawings, but rather a cartoon just because I like most cartoonists.

Yep, the biggest threat to gays (and others) worldwide is Islamics.

Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions

https://www.amazon.com/Liberalism-Mental-Disorder-Savage-Solutions-ebook/dp/B006IED8RO

When there is no other explainable solution one is forced to consider there is a medical reason for left-leaners inability to connect the dots. A perfect example is how they treat anthropogenic climate change. When the data does not support their views, they just adjust the data to fit their view of the world. That is not reality, which makes connecting the dot impossible. A rational person would adjust their views to fit the real world, connecting the dots.

Another big shooting today! This time in Texas!

Stay tuned for lefty gloating in.....3.....2....1!

Paul Emery

George

Your interest in asking Bob Crabb for proof for his allegations is empty and one sided since you do not support my request for Todd to provide "proof" about Gary Johnson alleged indiscretions. Can you explain this contraction?

Walt

Good GOD Paul, your bitch is with Todd. Go to the damned source.
Maybe we should give your the bare bulb treatment to find out why another lunatic shoots up a church. WHY PAUL,,WHY!!!!????
Explain it! Tell us what guns laws, not yet written would have stopped it!

Todd Juvinall

Paul Emery you really don't get it so you? WOW!

Bill Tozer

Yeah George, you have to ask Todd to give Paul what he demands. Like you have absolute total and complete control of what I do or Todd does, or Punchy always does. Righttttt. Dr. Rebane always has answered questions directly posed to him. So George, explain to us why you tolerate Todd’s silence to our Popinjay repeated requests who just happens to squawk like a blue jay, a rather greedy and loud member of the fowl species.

Come on Dr. Rebane, Paul is waiting....he’s tired of waiting

In the meantime (and on second thought), maybe Donna is indeed the spawn of Bobo Brazile. The way she went after Hillary’s melon....its just might be.

Bias Alert, Bias Alert! It’s not fair, it’s not fair! Hyprocrite! Hyprocrite! Squawk, sqwark, Bush did it too! He had Russians on his ranch!!!

Punchy, Punchy, Punchy. You surely did not miss all those Huff-n-Puff/Salon/Buzz Feed articles about Gary’s Johnson? Say it isn’t so. And I heard that Trump colluded with the Russians 8 years ago to make Hillary look like a fool.....a very angry fool.

The answer to your query to Dr. Rebane is simple. Some of us a pre teacher’s pets! Dr. Rebane likes some people more than others, as I do. A pleasant personality combined with wit or sense of humor covers a multiple of sins. Or a good fact packed piece from Russ and Gregory starts where personality ends. Good looks, humor, and personality can only carry you so far. Ah, nevermind Punch, those are three qualities you are not acquainted with.

And to add icing on the cake, moi is a person of color and am above reproach, despite of my shortcomings. If you say otherwise, you are a racist and you need to check your Lilly White Privilege at the door.

Bias Alter! Favoritism! Bad Juju!

Scott Obermuller

Just checked out the reactions to the church shooting in Texas.
Could there be a more idiotic bunch of loud mouths anywhere in the world?
None of them have much in the way of details of what happened. None of them has one single clue as to what to do, but by Jiminy, congress had better just do something!
Best line was from Tom Perez - "Unimaginable. Americans should never be afraid to worship."
You mean, like in schools and sporting events?
And so the insanity continues.
There are churches and schools where there is no fear of shootings. Because there haven't been any nor will there be. Been like that for decades. So - just do like they do in those schools and churches.
Nah - that's too simple.
Because we demand congress do something. And we don't mind getting shot up in the meantime.
Left wing thinking = insanity.

Don Bessee

Its interesting that the TX shooter may have been taken out by a local who engaged him with a rifle. ;-)

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the lefties have been a bit closer to the edge the last few days? Yes, it comes in waves since Trump throw a cinder block into their serene pond of meditation. Point is, they are in one of their angry nearly unhinged cycles. Maybe it’s due to the Weinstein story, or another Hillary story, or the tax cuts, or maybe it’s just their time of the month and Aunt Flo is visiting. Oh well, no use wasting time wondering about why insane people do what they do and why now. Oh yeah, the Anniversary is coming up. Some Esteemed Journalist must of guaranteed them Trump would be just a memory by now. Another one of life’s mysteries.

Some have deal with Trump Degrangement Syndrome by self medicating. Others deal with it by focusing their anger on the fact we are talking about “What Happened”, or The Foundation, or the DNC connection to The Holy Grail of Collusion, aka, Da Dossier. Others deal with their TDS by raging against Trump when the Harvey story broke, triggering an avalanche of unwelcomed sexual advance accusations ensnaring the NPR dude, movie stars, agents to the stars, the auction house world, the literary agent world, the fashion world, the gay world, and a boatload of big time Dem donors and bundlers. But Trump takes the cake and crossed the line. Seems like there is a whole lot of of people putting their hands on other people’s privates going on out there....for quite a spell.

Punchy in particular just can’t get pass the locker room talk. Heard much worse countless times myself. What, no pussy grabbing today??? Here, allow me to assist.

Mr Cross penned, “don't forget that Trump won not Hillary.. so who cares if Hillary is crooked or not.” Hmm. I do, I do. I care bunches and bunches. Love taking a page out of their script. Makes me feel like I am doing a public service and drives them nuts. This is a great day. Yep, that was a patch of bad milk. Another reason to tie cows to Preventable Global Warming. Can’t blame the girl for following her heart, but she made one big rookie mistake. There was a flaw in her plan to be with her true love. Those stories really pull at my heartstrings. A tragic tale, no doubt.

Closer to home concerning rough starts on wedding nights ......from The Union.

10:03 p.m. — A caller in the 100 block of Bank Street reported that his wife, wearing a white wedding dress, was missing. The bride was found about 20 minutes later, passed out in a hallway.

George Rebane

PaulE 212pm - There is little I can add to Mr Tozer's 231pm and 308pm, other than shake my head in utter disbelief.

Bill Tozer

Paul, Hekpful hint.. Bring Dr. Rebane an apple and place it on his desk. He is old school. Works like a charm, wink wink.

Todd Juvinall

If you read the comments on your Union post you will see the liberals say the same things about me. As well as the Union Editorial supporting Dollar General. Now, this is what they always do though and most people have no stomach for the back and forth. But I don't care and engage them. They soon give up after going personal of course. Liberals and other lefties are so predictable. They will allow the enemies of all we hold dear free reign rather than go against their PC beliefs. What I find curious is their lack of historical perspectives. The tyrants come and they are the first against the wall.

Todd Juvinall

I went and read their comments and old RL complains I used the word "deviant" about the 69 other genders. But of course, he bans me from his rag. Anyway, the left and the squishy middle that RL thinks he is are really the problems for the country. They are violent and I have seen them in Berkeley. My guess is RL, Frisch and Manderson think the Antifa are heroes. We on the right are all about freedom and things that make our country strong and great. Those on the left and middle are all about undermining the country through tearing down and tearing apart the values and ethics that have worked. But that is their prob;lem. The lost and and will continue to lose as Americans of good faith reject them and their deviancies.

jon smith

Walt, or anyone else steeped in gun rights: Do you believe that a person who has twice been convicted of domestic violence (and spent a year in prison and landed a dishonorable discharge for his second count), should be allowed to buy/own guns? Isn't this the kind of situation where strict but limited gun laws make sense? Repeat drunk driving convictions result in a loss of driving privileges which society seems to accept as rational. Please don't pivot by telling me a gunman killed the gunman, so it all balances out in the end.

Walt, or anyone else steeped in gun rights: Do you believe that a person who has twice been convicted of domestic violence (and spent a year in prison and landed a dishonorable discharge for his second count), should be allowed to buy/own guns?

A Dishonorable Discharge is specifically disqualifying. Good thing that's enshrined in law or or that guy might have shot up a church full of people!

jon smith

Fish- Reportedly the guy went into a gun store and bought it off the shelf. This wasn't a black or gray market acquisition.

George Rebane

The Texas shooter received a Bad Conduct Discharge which is one of several types of Other Than Honorable Discharge. It's not clear that civilian law considers that to be equivalent to having been convicted of a felony which does make gun possession unlawful.

But again, before we cry out for more gun laws, can we at least slow down and consider whether such additional laws - given the already existing laws - would have prevented what most recently got us all excited about gun control? We must always remember that enforcement is the crux, and only law-abiders are affected by gun laws, not killers who decide shoot up groups of people gathered for one purpose or another.

I have heard both Bad Conduct and Dishonorable being mentioned. Dishonorable is explicitly disqualifying.

Gregory

Golly, js 840, it apparently wasn't a Dishonorable Discharge, it was a Bad Conduct discharge, so your question is malformed.

The church is attended (from time to time) by his ex-wife and her parents. Not yesterday. The shooter is (or was) a devout Atheist.

George Rebane

Texas law enforcement also reports that the killer was stopped in mid rampage by two legal gun owners who engaged him and then pursued him in a vehicle chase that ended when the killer crashed his car (and then was shot or took his own life?). If so, then this appears to be another incident supporting legal gun ownership/possession where 'when seconds count, police are just minutes away'.

Todd Juvinall

The killer knew the church was a gun free zone. So he did not even need his vest there. But as soon as he was shot at in the car chase he became the coward piece of excrement he is. Tells me these killers are afraid of others with a response capability.

Bill Tozer

Quick note:

Heard last night he had a bad conduct discharge after serving time in the military brig. Something that his sentence was longer than his discharge date so he would have to spent more time than his enlistment expires, thus he was released with a bad conduct instead of a Dishonable Discharge. Something to do with timing/length of the sentence and his scheduled discharge date. Have NOT checked it out, got too busy.

Now, does military prison time equate to state or Fed prison time???

Carry on.

Paul Emery

Odd that Trump doesn't condemn the Texas shooter to the death penalty like the did the NY truck driver. that must be reserved for enemies of the United States not average mass murderers.

Gregory

"All I can say is that “me and mine” have had just about enough of this country’s traitorous idealogues on the nutbagged political edges (left and right) who are using their divisive rhetoric to sow discord and dissent. They are not true Americans and should seriously consider taking their destructive demagoguery to a country where the representative political system is further along the evolutionary path of repelling sociopathic extremism. And they should also pray deeply to their god that they do not get what they so malevolently envision as this country’s future."

Thus Spake Mandersonation who has been ranting about the "Bush Crime Family" for well over a decade.

RL's blog has become an echo chamber for RL, Michael P Anderson. Stephen Frisch and RL's oldest bestest buddy, Chris Hodgekinson. Well, Chris Peterson, but when I read the screeds from the capitol hill shooter, they sounded to me to be just like Chris who has fessed up to not having a clue about people who don't think like him.

“Looking ahead, if we come to power, we can return to this issue and think what to do about it,’’ Trump Jr. said during the meeting, according to Veselnitskaya. “I understand our side may have messed up, but it’ll take a long time to get to the bottom of it.”

Veselnitskaya also claimed that he wanted “financial documents showing that money that allegedly evaded U.S. taxes had gone to Clinton’s campaign,”

Whoa

Direct solicitation to the Russians while they were inside Trump Tower.

Get Rid of Capitalism? Millennials Ready to Talk About It...

If you teach socialism in K-12 and reinforce it with liberal professors at college, this is what you get. Hey, do not get pissed now, we let it happen. We let the progs take over our schools and teach our kids, what were we expecting to happen? We lost two of our four to the dark side of liberalism.

Oh Paul, that was just opposition research. And the collusion is........found there? Righttttt. Can’t flip when collusion never happened. Flip what? Evading taxes? Try another angle. Or put all your eggs in that basket. We knew Flynn was an easy mark since way before Mueller started his hunt.
Funny how Brother Podesta resigned from the Podesta foreign business company the very second Mueller filed charges against his partner Manafort. Odd, very odd. Both are joined at the hip I reckon, both told to register as foreign lobbyist/ agents, but I digress.

Popular vote is a non-issue. A mute point. It’s who ever wins the electoral college and that is the only thing and everything that matters for the last 240 years. The rest is just footnotes.

You should follow our CA Senators, Paul. We have two in CA. They affect our lives....in case you were not up to speed

Since we are talking about the DNC's Trump file its the perfect spot to mention that Buzzfeed just subpoenaed the DNC for the skinny on the file AND the so called Russian hack. Now we will get the confirmation that there was no DNC hack, it will be what the former NSA tech boss said; an insider download. Will it be shown to connect to my 257? Probably. ;-)

Paul Emery

This is far worse than I even imagined. this is after Trump repeatedly said there were no contacts with the Russians by anyone in his campaign. For example on Feb. 16, 2017,at a White House news conference, a reporter asked Mr. Trump, “Can you say whether you are aware that anyone who advised your campaign had contacts with Russia during the course of the election?”

“No,” Mr. Trump said. “Nobody that I know of. Nobody.”

Today from the Washington Post:

Documents and interviews show there are at least nine Trump associates who had contacts with Russians during the campaign or presidential transition.

The “at least” caveat makes some sense, because the overall number is arguably larger, but nine seems like a decent place to start: Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, J.D. Gordon, Jeff Sessions, and Michael Flynn."

Contact is not a crime. Collusion is not a crime. And Trump answered truthfully that he was unaware if an associate had "contact" with a Rooskie. What is your point?

Gregory

Paul, the question asked wasn't what you wrote... those pesky quotes... remember that lesson?

"During the campaign, did anyone from your team communicate with members of the Russian government or Russian intelligence? And if so, what was the nature of those conversations?"

"The Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam campaign released a report that blamed online ‘bots’ for the increased online activity over the Latino Victory Fund (LVF) ad that featured an Ed Gillespie supporter attempting to run down minority children."

Say that commercial too. The demoncrats will go as low as possible to appeal to the basest emotions for a victor. I hope EdG wins and shoves that as right up their ***

TJ 9:06- After 5 months traveling overseas attending to business duties, I return to find that nothing has changed in this very small, isolated berg of of Nevada City/Grass Valley. Nothing like a dose of travel to put our fly speck of humanity into perspective - and our smallest minds rise from the collective conscious as particularly picayune and unworthy of reflection. Todd Juvinal is like Smokey the Bear when it comes to symbolizing a (lost) cause.

A perfect example is his defensive, "Collusion is not a crime. And Trump answered truthfully that he was unaware if an associate had "contact" with a Rooskie." WRONG and WRONG.

If nine of Trump's closest confidants had contact with Rooskies (and they did) and, as Todd claims, Trump was unaware of any such contact, a reasonable and ordinary person could only conclude that Trump is too naive and out of touch to be president. Even if he were blind sided by such contacts, even a minor vetting of his confidants would have revealed such contact and collusion.

In his own words I'll let former convicted Watergate felon and Nixon attorney explain "collusion" to you Todd: Collusion is the descriptive word the news media has settled on to cover many potential illegal actions by the Trump campaign, which could range from aiding and abetting (18 USC 2) to conspiracy per se (18 USC 371) to conspiring to violate several potentially applicable laws like: 18 USC 1030—fraud and related activity in connection with computers; 18 USC 1343—wire fraud; or 52 USC 30121—contributions and donations by foreign nationals. Also, 18 USC 2381—for, contrary to a widespread belief that there must be a declared war, the Justice Department as recently as 2006 indicted for “aid and comfort” to our enemies, the form of collusion better known as treason. Collusion is the perfect word to cover such crimes, pejorative and inclusive.

Enough for now. On my way back to a, hopefully, fruitful visit to the land of the "Rooskies" where, with any luck, I can add a few more kopeks to our nation's treasury.

Walt

Name the crime "jon". Better people than you have tried, yet still shoot blanks.

Todd Juvinall

No Jon Smith you are just a little too small brained to figure out real life. You are all about "assume" without facts. But your ilk cant even win a national election that was all yours to lose. And you did. I won, you lost get used to it.

Gregory

Jon Smith, the 80's called, they want their foreign policy back. And even in the 1980's, saying hello (or even just being within spitting distance at a diplomatic soirée) wouldn't be considered "communication".

Everyone who woke up into a nightmare 12 months and a day from now is sure Trump got there by out-Clintoning Hillary with the Russians and that Mueller is the Lone Ranger about to hand him over to the Sheriff.
