I've lately not participated much on RR because I find that what passes here as discourse drags me down. I still read your articles, though, George, and this one is a fine example of why. I greatly appreciate that you tell the truth (at least as I see it.) and even more the way that you tell it. I wish you the merriest Christmas, sir, and the happiest new year, too.

Don Bessee

Merry Christmas to you too Kesti! JOB JOBS JOBS! It is amazing to see how many corporations whos immediate response was raises, jobs announcements and bonuses to workers! Tax cuts for Christmas were promised and delivered by the Trump administration! It will indeed be a happy new year! ;-)

Scott Obermuller

It's important to stress that the tax cuts were rate cuts. The govt doesn't run on tax rates, it runs on tax amounts. Well - that and a shed load of debt, but that's another story having to do with spending. After a year of the new tax law, it will be interesting to see the actual amounts collected, the number of folks actually paying taxes and the unemployment rate. Plus, a lot more to see what the full effect is on our economy. Mix into that 'stuff' that happens along the way and the normal business cycle and it will make for a really good thesis by a business major.
Getting rid of the health insurance mandate (assuming that's true) will probably impact our economy almost as much or more than the tax changes. So far, it looks like a win win, even if it's not the ideal. It was probably the best one could hope for.

Don Bessee

Funny how that worked out! -

DB at 6:21 - But, but, but, these are the lefties that said they want to pay more taxes! I'm sure the wealthy in Frisco are cheering Trump! He delivers what they claim they want. Right?

Those that hate the tax cut, can refuse to accept it. Please gladly return the offending extra amount of money.(bet ya' won't.)

What??? The new tax bill is only 472 pages??? Way to simplify the code!!!

Generalissmo Covfefe

From Brookings,,,hmmm,,,

“The tax bill is widely and rightly being reported as an enormous giveaway to the very wealthy. Taken as a whole, the passage of this shoddy and regressive bill is a disaster for equity in America. But progressives can take heart in one small but not insignificant policy buried in this debacle: the new cap on the home mortgage interest deduction.

First, some background. Republicans decided to pass a tax bill without Democratic support, which left them beholden to a particular set of budget rules. To give as big a cut as possible to the very top without violating those budget rules, Republicans are relying on a mishmash of revenue-raising policies. As my colleague Bill Gale has pointed out, the bill is a six trillion dollar tax cut, partially offset with a four-and-a-half trillion dollar tax increase. (So much for the vaunted Republican anti-tax pledge.)”

Bill Tozer

National Review’s Jibran Khan states, "The predictable result is that a false claim — Republicans are raising taxes on all but the very rich, full stop — has spread like wildfire across Twitter, and has been given added momentum by think tanks, verified accounts, and trending hashtags. This effort has certainly paid off. According to a recent New York Times poll, only a third of Americans believe that they will see their taxes go down in 2018. It should come as no surprise, then, that the bill’s extreme unpopularity is in line with historic tax rises, rather than tax cuts: The majority of people think it’s a hike.

https://patriotpost.us/articles/53102

Seems to me this whole thing gets down to those who actually believe it is the government’s primary job to take care of the people (food, housing, clothing, Internet, transportation, sustenance) and those who believe that is not government’s job. Thus, giving government less or more of one's money is either a good or bad thing, depending on your view of government and whose money is that, government’s or mine?

The lamestream fakenews Industrial Leftwing Media Complex sounds the alarm that “Taxes cuts are the end of civilization as we know it! Repent evil Republicans, repent.
The nation will be annihilated!” To which Trump responded to the press: “You Need Prayer More Than I Do.”, ROFLMAO.

Whaaaat??? President Trump says the tax bill will ‘cost me a fortune’ ???

Corporation tax proposals

Taxpayers that conduct their real estate business activities through a C corporation (including a taxable REIT subsidiary of a REIT) will want to take note of several significant provisions. The House Bill would permanently reduce the top corporate federal income tax rate from 35% to 20% for tax years beginning after 2017. The House Bill also would repeal the alternative minimum tax, and would allow indefinite carry forward of NOLs arising in tax years beginning after December 31, 2017. The House Bill would repeal all carrybacks for losses generated in tax years beginning after December 31, 2017. The House Bill would limit the amount of all NOLs that a taxpayer could use to offset taxable income to 90% of the taxpayer's taxable income (computed without taking into account the NOL deduction) for tax years beginning after December 31, 2017.

I see a peeeved TROLL.
It can't even do math. Presidents don't " create" jobs. Just the environment for those jobs to prosper.
Now Trump has "opened" up plenty of job for Americans, by deporting illegals who were taking jobs from Americans. ( what's the deportation count Dougy?)
Manufacturing is coming back. So is mining. Tough times for people like Dougy(the TROLL)

Bill Tozer

Taxes and the Great Divide, 2017.

“We were warned on this point long ago by John Adams, who said, “The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If ‘Thou shalt not covet’ and ‘Thou shalt not steal’ were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free.”

Democrats have molded their party’s entire philosophy around coveting and stealing.

Bringing Adams’ thought forward 230 years is David French of National Review, who wrote a scathing reminder to the “snowflakes” out there that, in truth, it’s taxation that’s theft — not the just-passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. “We’re back to culture war,” writes French. “Red and Blue America are once again like ships passing in the night. A conservative hears the language of ‘theft’ and laughs. I’m not stealing from anyone if I’m allowed to keep more of my own cash. The progressive hears the same word and nods. After all, the government must fund ‘our’ welfare state, and the more money a person has, the greater the government’s moral and legal claim on his resources.”

I was surprised to hear that Trump pulled a page out of Reagen’s accelerated depreciation, albeit Reagen’s was for just one year. I bought a business vehicle and could write of 33% depreciation instantly for that year. Sweet. No more writing off computers and the like’s depreciation over 5 years...and more. I was so happy I bought 2 more business use vehicles that year. If I understand the new tax bill correctly, one can buy a computers and the like and write them off in full.

Oh, I like Tim Brown from South Carolina, too. The Left calls him an Uncle Tom, so he must be an independent thinker and a good man.

The tax cuts will cause genocide in minority communities!

https://www.facebook.com/RowdyConservatives/photos/a.217983685002343.55586.217926015008110/1224183094382392/?type=3&theater

The apparent losers are those who do not work much and pay no taxes. Strike that. The losers get a free cash handout, just like being on welfare. The (un)Earnec Income Credit. Pay in zero, get 2-3k back. Sweet deal. Or, just file for the child tax credit.

The losers appear to be those in the 170k/year tax bracket if they file as employees and take their show on the road. Like welders working on pipelines and hospitals throughout the country and not being able to write off their employee expenses like motel rooms and meals away from home come to mind. Doubling the standard deduction wouldn’t make them pay less. Perhaps it’s time for those traveling “employees” to consider their unreimbursed expenses and consider making some adjustments and file as a business...like many truckers do. Time will tell.

Judging from the hysteria and the crazy words of the left about the tax reform. My experience says they know it will work so they double down on the hate speech and goofiness.

Todd Juvinall

Since Mr. Trump's assets are in blind trusts and he signed over the management of it all to others, Trump is telling the truth about not benefitting. My goodness, you liberals want all the hard working Americans make and no one is ssafe from your confiscations. Except now we have a President that has stopped you fools in your tracks.

Todd Juvinall

Answered that for you already. See my post above yours. Jeeze!

Bill Tozer

Hey, what’s all this tax reform noise? Yes, 2/3 of the cuts will go to lowering the corporate rates. That was put out there for all to see in advance. Businesses like my former employers, business like....what I used to do, work my butt off for, and own. Now, today I am just a simpleton who lives in my van down by the river and I still pay taxes. Death is approaching and taxes are knocking at the door. :) With that said, bitching about what the other guy pays (or not pays) is a national pastime since some disgruntled Fauxahonas types threw crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.

But the real shocker here is that Trump was supposed to be gone by now. Mark the tape! The Pubbers would bail on Trump and he won’t get not one thing ( not one thing!) and he would be forced to resign....months ago. Resign, quit, or be impeached by Russian Collusion or by obstruction of justice, or being associated with his son Junior who committed acts of treason. The Pubbers would bail to save their own necks.
So, what the heck is Trump doing still tweeting from behind his work desk inside the Oval Office?? Boy, the Lefties and the Non-Profit Industrial Complex lied to me. Liars! Liars! They are a den of liars, I tell ya. They said...blah, blah, blah and to this very hour they are saying blah, blah, blah.

Now that the RINO Johnnie Come Latelys are on board and claiming to be patriots, it looks like Trump may be around for another week or two. Yes, some of us were Patriots when being patriots was beyond being uncool, but I shall remain “mag·nan·i·mous” and say welcome aboard, better late than never. And just in the nick of time. Happy New Year, my long lost friends.

We will let the Dems and Socialists campaign this fall on refusing to vote for the tax cuts....the tax cuts one single Dem voted for as their constituents noticed an increase in their take home pay....months ago. A sure fire winning strategy, eh Lefties?

One does not have to endorse Trump. All one needs to do is vote for his policies and agenda.

Bill Tozer

Answer me, yes or no, yes or no, yes or no! I hear that record skip again, stuck on stupid.

This is like putting someone in a round room and telling them to piss in a corner. The gift that keeps on coming.

Oh Punchy, you just have to wait til Christmas to open your presents. Rolling eyes and exasperated, Mommie says, “OK Paul, you can open one present on Christmas Eve, but just one.. Just one, but you have to wait for Christmas to open the others. Did I make myself clear, young man?”

Among the left, "corporate" is a proxy for the 1%... so cutting the corporate rate means "the rich benefit".

As opposed to the near-poor and middle class schmucks who might have an IRA or 401k that's invested in stocks and bonds that is getting taxed at rates meant for the filthy rich... before it gets to their IRA/401k... and pension funds like CalSTRS/PERS

Teachers, cops. Even jerks in the Rude Center and City Halls.

Paul Emery

Okay Bill, Don and Todd I take it you don't take Trump for his word. All you have to do is say I believe what trump says about how the rich, including Trump, will not profit from the just passed tax plan I mean you don't even support your own guy which is why Trump will crash and burn in public opinion. If you guys don't believe what he says than who will?

Todd Juvinall

Sorry Paul Emery but you are daft. I explained why Trump is correct yet you dismiss it if you even read it. So shut your pie hole and go over to your favorite blog at SFR. Adios bub. We know you believed every single thing Obama said as well as Hillary as you never questioned them in this blog ever. So you are as usual full of it.

Paul Emery

Todd

You did not say I support Trumpss statement that his tax cuts will not benefit the wealthy. His blind trusts will be cashed out as soon as he's no longer President and he will gain all profits from tax breaks for the wealthy. You don't support Trump anyway so why argue.

Walt

" Trump will crash and burn in public opinion."
When will that be Paul? You have been saying that from the day Trump said he's running for Prez.
Tough to be in the LIB news business these days,Paul??

I guess my employer is RICH (according to Paul) He owns a CORP !
He's making millions off all five of us.(right?)

How bout the new dope shop Paul? That's a CORP too! Yes. Those evil CORPs.

Paul Emery

No wonder you guys don't support Trumps statement. the NYT just reported that Trump would pay 11 Million less on taxes based on the only tax return he's released, 2005. What an overt liar, Good move guys staying away from him. I'm with you on this one.

President Trump would save about $11 million on his taxes, if the new Republican tax overhaul were applied to his 2005 tax return, a New York Times analysis has found. The savings would be a roughly 30 percent cut. He would also save another $4.4 million on his eventual estate tax bill.

Quotes of the day:
— “I like when the poor get tax cuts. I like when the middle class get tax cuts. I like when the rich get tax cuts. I like when the super rich get tax cuts. I like everybody keeping the money they earned.” —Frank Fleming

—-“I just saved two thousand dollars on my taxes by switching to Trump”—- the GEICO gecko.

—- “[Tax reform is] a monster — a Frankenstein — and anybody who’s familiar with Frankenstein knows it was a creation, a monster that was created.” —Nancy Pelosi

Hummm. Yo Nancy, Dr. Frankenstein was not a creation. Frankenstein was a man, a human being, not a monster created in a lab. He created a monster, Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, if you prefer. And anyone who’s familiar with Frankenstein knows that, FYI.

Tax cuts are DOA and Trump is a liar!, said the lowly Popinjay who wants so bad to taken seriously. DOA? Never happen? Dead, dead, dead. Me thinks it is not Trump who speaks with forked tongue. Gotta wonder about those who run around calling darn near everyone else a liar. That is one big boomerang to toss. Everything the Leftist Industrial Non Profit-Fakenews Media Complex does and says comes back to bite them...after blowing up in their faces. I have never heard of such things in my entire life.

2Mistrial on Clive Bundy etal. Sessions is going to investigate the incompetence of the Fed attorney's office in Las Vegas. A judge will decide if the Bundy's will get further persecution in January. Looks like the people's juries are not buying what the feds are selling.

Unemployment down record amounts in over 25 states. Could that be the Trump effect? California is trying to say it is their policies of higher taxes and failing infrastructure that are driving down the numbers. You cannot make that stuff up.

Funny how Obama had a crappy economy for his eight years and did nothing of substance to help fix it. Well except QE's where Bernanke pronted 3.5 trillion in money used to buy stocks by those "rich" folks Obama and the democrats complain about. Wanna bet the "rich" democrats profited? So now Trump comes in and the media and the left are telling us it is a spillover economy fromof Pbama success! Amazing, they think Americans are that stupid?

alcohol use at any time with screeds not fit for women or children

re PaulE 1111am - It seems that Mr Emery touches an important point in how we pen our letters into these comment streams. For some of our stalwarts there is a distinctly noticeable spread in their level of decorum which does not always speak well of the author, especially when one considers that 'the Internet is forever'. It pays to temper one's scribbles with an eye to the ages.

Walt

Paul. Worce is said on any given grade school playground.
LIBS really dislike disciplining mouthy children. Then they grow up a little, and you see the results on the grounds of upper education.
ENJOY!

Bill Tozer

Oh Punchy, get it correct. I said the Celts humped sheep, a long historical established fact as well as their tradition carried down through the ages. Not all animals are suitable, or so the current batch of Highlanders tell me. I see no reason for them to lie to me. It’s not like I was cracking Greek sailor boy jokes. Don Regan did that and it crushed his political aspirations after the Reagen’s Administration. Live and learn.

If you want me to clean up my language, so be it. Never hurts to ask. Oh Jewish saying, “Don’t ask, don’t get.” Well, that applies generally, not so much when some do not wish to play with ya here. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, I reckon.

Back to Taxes. While Congress has yet to replace Obamacare, its close enough for me by ridding our nation of that awful mandatory penalty tax for not purchasing healthcare. Shoots up every year. Last year is was like $1,700 bucks if one opted not to join the club, Next schedule to be a bunch more. Getting rid of that tax, as SCOTUS pointed out, is the charge of Congress and it’s Constitutional authority to levy and rescind taxes. That was a very good thing to keep government out of the business of taxing some folks for simply breathing air and having no economic activity, aka, the tax penalty for not enrolling. Gone with the wind.

Very glad to see they raised the floor on the death tax as well...I heard...haven’t looked into the final bill. Estates, farms, family businesses should be exempt under 9.5 million to start. 6 million was too low of a threshold. A man works all his life only to have the government come and take away of what he already paid taxes on. Government always takes the cream off the top, and then half the bottle of milk. Sure, the deceased’s estate has to still file income taxes tand other business and dividend taxes for the year Farmer John passed away, but it’s a crying shame for the kids to have to sell the farm, ranch, small business, shop, or income producing real estate to pay the death tax and lose the family farm, ranch small business. home, or commercial property. It’s so unfair. Opps, it was so unfair.

The po' ol' fakenewsman again confirms he has nothing to bring to the tax cut conversation @ 348! ;-)

Paul Emery

OK Don let me repost this one
Trump is an overt liar claiming he would not gain from his tax cuts.

The NYT just reported that Trump would pay 11 Million less on taxes based on the only tax return he's released, 2005. What an overt liar.
President Trump would save about $11 million on his taxes, if the new Republican tax overhaul were applied to his 2005 tax return, a New York Times analysis has found. The savings would be a roughly 30 percent cut. He would also save another $4.4 million on his eventual estate tax bill.

What don't you understand about the law Paul Emery? If an elected official is affected the same as the population there is no ethical moral or legal issues. In a city, the Mayor or council will vote on something that affects all and it could be a tax (which you dig) or a refund or whatever. You nd the NTY are just blowing smoke up your own keisters on the claims. My goodness move on or you will be admitted to a looney bin.

Like is said @413. Here is someone who cares about an extra grand in her pocket=

George Rebane

I wonder if the Left understands anything about the tax reform that is not connected to dunning Trump. So far it doesn't look that way.

Paul Emery

The question I am raising George is whether Trump is being honest about his own situation. If not how an we believe anything else he says about the tax cut. I'm sure we agree that any elected official should be honest to those who elected him. Personally, do you believe Trump is being honest about his personal tax situation?

Todd Juvinall

The left is truly unhinged. Whether climate change, taxes, the debt of abortion. These people of the left are irrational and not believable. Keep spreading the truth and maybe we can keep them in the forest away from objects that can hurt them.

Don Bessee

12 year old taxes and talking about the President benefiting from a rise in the death tax exclusion has been beaten to death yet the po' ol' fakenewsman likes repeating himself. Sad. ;-)

Punch is in month 13 of a scheduled 72 month hissy! Kinda interested in whether he’s got the stamina to see it through!

Stand strong Punch...13 year old girls across the country are looking to your example!

Still trying to gain traction about President Trump lying about not benefiting on Tax Reform, eh? Benefit personally or does his businesses benefit, hmmmm? Keep knocking on the door and sooner or later someone will let you in to talk about it. Do you want to talk about your pain? Tax cuts for the rich just really gets your hamster wheel spinning. No rest for the wicked.

Here’s a bone coming your way:

Trump lied. Yes, Trump lied. He called Rosie a pig. We all know Rosie O’Donnell is of the female gender of the homospoian race, which is commonly referred to as “human”. A pig is any of the animals in the genus Sus, within the even-toed ungulate family Suidae. Both humans and pigs are mammals and there are someanatomically correct similarities between Rosie and animals of the genes Sus, Rosie Odonnell is definitely not a an animal of the genus Sus, thus Rosie is not a wild boar nor a pig. Trump lied! Busted!

Why is this important or even on topic? Glad you asked. Before the historic vote on Tax Reform, there was criminal bribery going down. Well sourced and documented. Could have torpedoed the whole bill. Good thing Ben Sharpio was on it.

do you believe Trump is telling the truth when he says he won't profit from new tax laws? Yes or no. If you admire and respect Trump as much as you say why can't you openly support him?

Bill Tozer

Thanks for the generous offer, Paul Emery. I would take you up on your kind offer but I am afraid I will not find a place to park my Jed Clammet rig.....besides the risk of catching those air born diseases off Broad Street. Can’t be too careful when venturing out into Quainty Town since they took the lard out of Aunt Bea’s pie crust. It just doesn’t taste the same and being so close to the Cultural Center leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But, I appreciate the olive branch.

Now, back to Tax Reform and the dastardly tax cuts for the filthy, filthy, filthy rich.

A true story:
Once upon a time on a two lane road in the Central Valley (off of Hwy 99) cutting through Ag Land, everything you could see as far as the eye could see on one side of the road was owned by the Gallos, of Ernest and Julio cheap CA wine fame. And everything you could see as far as the eye could see in the other side of the road was owned by Max Foster, of Foster Farms chicken fame.

Neither Max or Ernest were politically active. They both gave to each party, each canidate, everytime, no questions asked. Largest employers in the area. Think Galleo had 420 employees in Stanislaus County (?) at the time, the largest employer in the county. Max had hundreds of workers also, payroll based out of an nearby county. Been in both their humble abodes, a personal tour with the personal touch, but I digress.

So, any legislation that would do harm to Ernest affected the county’s largest
employer and of course, every employee. Same for Foster Farms in Fresno and Modesto. What is good for the business, was good for hundreds of jobs. So, what is the local Congressman to do? Don’t slay the goose that lays the golden eggs with all those jobs for starters.

That’s how it works, like it or not. The evil rich are the the job creators.

Story Number 2, a true story.

About a couple of decades ago, i walked (was wheeled out actually) ...I walked out of the local hospital after a rather longer than expected stay. The surgeon was surprised I did not have a doc. He recommended Dr. Dawkins...who was black and taking patients, especially guys like me who paid in full in cash. Told the good surgeon I don’t care if he is black (like, who mentions that when recommending a doc?} and went and saw Dr. Dawkins.

The good doc was from Jamicia and told me a story I will never forget, a story that you can extrapolate to this country, Haiti, Russia, China, Cuba, and Bolivia among others. The good doc said if you give everybody in Jamaica a hundred dollar bill. after a month or year, 5% of the people would have everyone of those hundred dollar bills.

That’s how it works. Demonizing the 5% ain’t to change a thing, except less money in everyone else’s pocket if you come down too hard on the evil corporations and their owners. The 5% will still end up with all those hundred dollar bills, after taking their marbles and going to distant lands.

Today's news reports:

President Donald Trump told friends at his lavish Mar-a-Lago club “you all just got a lot richer” after the passage of his tax cut legislation, CBS News reported Today .

Hmmm It was Trump who said to congress

"“The rich will not be gaining at all with this plan,”

Sure

Liar in Chief says"I;m really going to take a beating"
Also
Today today Forbes reported that "Trump is set to save millions if he signs the Republican tax plan, but exactly how much? Forbes crunched the numbers: It looks like up to $11 million a year from a single rule change."

Unnamed sources again?

Ahh, the joys of class envy still rule when all other arguments have been dismissed by reason.

Paul Emery

George

Come on George, what I'm talking about is the President of the United States lying to the American People. Do you really think I'm envious of people like Trump? You know me better than that.

Walt

Poor Paul. The kid of a ditch digger built an auto repair business
from the ground up. HIS shop is bigger than any in Nevada County.
And did it while putting in 22 years in the Tenn. Air guard.

What's your excuse for not getting rich?

My other kid put himself through school buying and selling video games on Ebay. ( now makes big bucks on the side, playing the stock market for fun.) Also filthy rich.

Again.. Why not you? Yet you bitch for those have done well.

George Rebane

PaulE 1055am - please check the facts on who all benefits from the new tax code, and then tell me that citing the rich is not the sum and stuff of class envy.

And re the president "lying to the American People (sic)" - Trump is a piker compared to his predecessors. FDR was unquestionably the most prolific liar of all in modern times, and his lies continue their damage to this day. See more in the recent biography -

Paul Emery

So George do you admit that Trump lied to sway public opinion on his tax cuts?

Bill Tozer

It will be interesting to see how many Lefties that predict the end of civilization as we know it due to the lower tax rates will file in the coming months and then send the difference between the former tax rates and the new tax rates to the Federal government in Washington DC. We must wait and see if they put their money where their mouths are before pulling out the ole hypocrisy card. If they are this upset with paying lower taxes, then surely they will start flooding DC with checks containing their tax savings to help a Big Bro out.
Or, maybe money talks and bull pucky walks. Methinks doth protest too much.

Opps, strike the above. There won’t be anyone around to cash their refund checks. Silly me. Nevermind.

Walt

Nope Trump didn't LIE.
LIB news did,,, and Paul is part of LIB news.
ADMIT YOU LIED PAUL!!!
LESS Taxes. LESS regulations.
Speaking of Presidential LIES, Do you need a reminder of those told by "O"? Oh.. That's right You didn't vote for "O".. (so NO comment)
Well,, you didn't vote for Trump either. Same rule applies. ZIP IT.

Walt

Bill.. Ol' Paul better not keep ANY of his tax savings. Paul should party in the streets if he has to pay more.

Paul Emery

One other thought George does your allegations that FDR lied 70 years ago justify Trump lying this week?

Bill Tozer

Well Walt, she does have a point.

Paul loves to bring up the past all the time.(until now....)

“So George do you admit that Trump lied to sway public opinion on his tax cuts”

Keep digging, Punchy. Soon everyone on Earth will agree with you. You got all of us here agreeing with you by putting your words in people’s mouths. Keep digging Punchy, you got Dr. Rebane staggering backwards onto the ropes. Deliver the knockout blow now. Strike while the iron is hot.

Admit it, Dr. George. Admit it now! Say it, say it, just come out and friggin say it. Say those magic words, “I admit Trump is a liar.” Say it, say it, SAY IT, SAY IT.
You are getting warmer, Punchy. Getting Warmer...., warmer...warmer...soon you have rest,

Walt
