George Rebane
Too bad I cannot vote for John since I live in District #1, but I can sing his praises and recommend that all the good citizens of District #3 keep John doing the excellent job that he has done for the past 5+ years. I have known John and have been one of his supporters ever since he replaced me as county planning commissioner back in 2003.
John is now seeking to be elected for the third time to continue serving all of the county as a hard working member of the most effective and fiscally responsible Nevada County boards ever – and especially during today’s continuing California calamity.
John is a licensed land surveyor who understands the private sector, has a squeaky clean record of service, and the experience in county government needed to keep us on a fiscally sound path. His only downside is that he has a low ‘flashy factor’ for an elected official. But then again, lately we’ve been paying a lot for politicians with a lot of flash, but no bang to back it up.
His opponent, Terry Lamphier, is primarily a big question mark regarding his experience and ability to work with others. The gentleman has no real background in local government except for a stint on the GV Planning Commission from which he was essentially fired by his colleagues. Most of his ‘new’ proposals for the county indicate a disconnect, since the county has already been implementing them for some time now.
Bottom line, do we need to change what has worked so well for us? John Spencer will continue bringing to the job his honesty, integrity, energy, and no-nonsense approach to governing (to use his words) “without wasting everyone’s time.” Please keep John as your District #3 Supervisor.
Stereo support John Spencer stories from George and Russ. WOW, what a surprise! George and Russ don;t even live in District 3.
Exit question: How many District 3 townhall community meetings has Supervisor Spencer held since taking office?
A. 12
C. NONE
C. 6

Steve,
John keeps an open door, he answers he phone when I call and responds to e-mail. With modern day communication what is the purpose of town halls, other than for people attending to demonstrate their politics in a public place. They are a waste of time for most people, as nothing much gets done other than a lot of useless blabbering.
How many times have you picked up the phone and call John or send him and e-mail. Wow? That many?

So Russ, you are answering for Supervisor Spencer? Maybe Supervisor Spencer can answer for himself.
Russ, do you know how many community town hall meetings Supervisor Spencer has held in District 3?
Why do all the other Supervisors hold town hall meetings? So under your position community town hall meetings are a waste of time?
town Hall community meetings are very valuable for so many reasons. One basic reason is to show the community you care and that you reach out to them vs. waiting to be reached as you think is the way to go.
Guess the other four County Supervisors, the ones that do hold community town hall meetings in their districts are wrong and are just wasting their time.
So... Neavda County Supervisor John Spencer... how many community town hall meetings have you held in District 3?

Here's two questions for Supervisr John Spencer. Since Russ has posted how responsive Supervisor Spencer is and knowing that Supervisor Spencer reads and posts on this blog:
Dear Supervisor Spencer. Here are two questions for you:
1. How many community town hall meetings have you held in District 3 since taking office?
2. How do you feel about community town hall meetings? Do you agree with Russ that they are a "waste of time" or do you think they have value?
I live in District 3 and I would like Supervisor Spencer to respond to these two questions.
Supervisor Spencer, Thank you in advance for responding to these questions.

Hey Russ, consider this:
You posted:
"With modern day communication what is the purpose of town halls, other than for people attending to demonstrate their politics in a public place".
Then you stated:
"They are a waste of time for most people, as nothing much gets done other than a lot of useless blabbering".
So Russ, what about all them Jobs-Economy-Too Much Regulation "Town Hall" meetings that were conducted by our Conservative, Republican Representatives (mainly Logue and McClintock)? One was even held in the Board of Supervisors room at the Rood Center.
Exit question for Russ:
Q: Will you apply your just posted standards and opinions about "Town Hall" meetings to those jobs-economy-regulation town halls?
After all..."With modern day communication what is the purpose of town halls, other than for people attending to demonstrate their politics in a public place"?
Then again..."They are a waste of time for most people, as nothing much gets done other than a lot of useless blabbering".
Yep, Russ is right... "politics" and "useless blabbering".

Mr. Enos - A suggestion: You need to start your own blog. I'd really like to read it. Or is this it? (question previously asked and not answered).

Somebody bump the juke box will you
They are probably a COMPLETE waste of time, but other than that I guess he's doing a pretty good job

Bob, I'm not the blog start up kinda guy.
Posted by: Steve Enos | 12 May 2010 at 09:47 PM
Steve - me either. Guess we'll stick with this one!

So Russ, you say Supervisor Spencer is Mr. Responsive... but no response yet to the simple questions I raised to Supervisor Spencer.
Also no response from Russ about applying his standards and opinion on "town hall" meetings.
So Russ, care to offer a response or will you let your clear, double standard do the talking for you?
Posted by: Steve Enos | 13 May 2010 at 02:17 PM
Steve,
If you re-read what I wrote I said, email and phone calls. I guess you have not called John or email him? Right?
Posted by: Russ | 13 May 2010 at 06:17 PM
Duck all you want... it shows.
Posted by: Steve Enos | 13 May 2010 at 11:14 PM
Steve quit playing an idiot, if you have a question for the man call him or email like anybody else would, is he supposed to check all the local blogs to see if you have a question for him ? Since this seems to be the overiding issue on whether to support him, I would ask him rather than Russ. By the way FYI - Russ thinks there stupid and a waste of time - John Spenser maybe not so much, maybe he would even let you be MC.

Dixon,
I agree! Over they years I have been to hundreds of local Town Hall and Council Meeting and it always the same usual suspects that get up and say the same emotional laden junk over and over and.... At least now that most of the Council Meetings are on the local cable channel so I can watch with a glass of my favorite adult beverage. I can even scream at the TV and only the dog gets upset.

Yes Russ is still correct Steve, if you look at his blog about jobs those were a total waste of time too - it doesn't matter who holds them apparently.
Jeezz Steve I know your smarter than this, honest I do, your not an idiot. I know that you are on the top side of the Dem/Lib/Prog intelligence scale, although that may not be such a badge of honor but I know you are, try and act like it, sometimes you just seem to lose it - seems bandwidth is an issue out there LOL
