Walt

I see the Alta Sierra power struggle is still alive and well.
On one side, there is those that got a good taste of "control and power", and
tried ( or still trying,, take your pick. )to expand it wholesale.
On the other "side" you have the " leave me the Hell alone, and stay out of my wallet, and I have done just fine without you."

So what similarities do we see here? The "old board", acting like our well known "Progressives", and on the other, "stay out of my life" Tea Party.

Yes,, the "old board" needs to go.

George Rebane

Walt 1115am - good point Walt. It just underlines that politics affects the quality of life at all levels. And the more people of different backgrounds and values move into close proximity with each other, the more such contentions will arise and will have to be dealt with. The days of long term insular communities are over.

Walt

Our " Green freaks" need a good dose of what they are pushing.
The need to look no further than the U.K.
Heat and power are becoming "luxury" items in Germany as well.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/11/08/analysis-were-going-backwards/

Forward thinking is going to drive us back into the Bronze age.

Paul Emery

Yeah George, the days of white heterosexual Northern European Christian Protestant male dominated communities are over, thank goodness.

George Rebane

PaulE 542pm - Part of the growing energy for the Great Divide is that we celebrate and take joy in widely different outcomes.

Ken Jones

Walt, I believe your contention that the old board of the ASPOA is progressive is incorrect. I cannot speak about the entire board, but perhaps one of the most vocal members is Don Bessee. Mr. Bessee is a known for leading the movement for the local ordinance on MMJ. He frequently spews incorrect and hysteria on this issue. Mr. Bessee is also a very outspoken member of the recalled ASPOA board who was trying to disrupt the voting on the recall. The Nevada County sheriff was called to ensure the homeowners could vote without harassment.
Mr. Bessee worked the Republican booth at the fair this year with Todd J. No idea if Mr.Bessee is a Tea Party member but he is a member of the NCRP, and not a progressive. I would contend he is more regressive, rude and hyperbolic.
And I agree with you Walt the recalled board needs to leave and the newly elected board begin their term.

Paul Emery

Walt

Do you take the "Daily Caller" seriously as a new source? Just wondering.

Paul Emery

George

So we will celebrate the division of our country into essentially tribal mini states with similar cultural, religious, political, economic and racial profiles. What will the role of the National and State Governments be in your picture? What do you see as Nevada County's template being in this picture?

Paul Emery

Walt

That's News source

George, I have great admiration for Winston Churchill, so I'm not surprised he was voted the most influential person of the 20th century. But who participated or conducted the poll/election?

Dai Meagher, CPA

Walt, in Alta Sierra, the ASPOA board set their annual election for December 2nd. There are five candidates for three vacancies. I think most voters received their ballots on November 9th. I live on the outskirts of Alta Sierra, subscribe to the Alta Sierran, and have friends and acquaintances on both sides of the fence there. My observations and insights on that contest greatly differs from your very summarized/simplified remarks. And given the premise of this particular topic of George's, I'm compelled to encourage all those participating in the December 2nd ASPOA election, to make an effort to seek information on the candidates from a variety of sources.

I echo George's concluding remarks: "Casting an informed vote in a democracy is the most sacrosanct act of its citizens. However, an uninformed vote is the destructive bane of democracies, and doubly so."

Unfortunately, the economics of the newspaper industry doesn't afford the thorough reporter coverage available twenty years ago. So reading "The Union" is only PART of becoming informed.

George Rebane

PaulE 719pm - Though I may quibble with a point here and there with Bennett and Lotus; in whole I do agree with their version of a suitable and harmonious post-Great Divide country which they label America 3.0 and which I summarized a few posts ago here -
http://rebaneruminations.typepad.com/rebanes_ruminations/2013/11/great-divide-america-30.html

Recall, that in America 3.0 there will also be plenty of jurisdictions (states, etc) that will be home to very progressive (collectivist) people who can now, with little resistance, implement the forms of governance that their hearts have always desired. Perhaps the only difference will be that they can then only redistribute among themselves the wealth which they first generate.

George Rebane

DaiM 805pm - Thank you for the question Dai. Churchill was not selected as a result of a formal poll, but instead as informal agreement among political commenters and pundits who swim with Krauthammer who initially nominated Churchill to counter Time magazine's selection of Einstein. In his book, Krauthammer makes a short but elegant defense of that counter nomination.

Paul Emery

Gorge
You didn't correspond to my qustion as to the role of the State and Federal government in your concept.

Barry Pruett

"Ken Jones". Walt never said that individuals of the ASPOA board are "progressives." He stated that they are acting like progressives act. i.e. interfering with people's lives, liberty, and property. Seems accurate.

George Rebane

PaulE 114am - Actually I did, but it seems that you want me to lay out the detailed functions of governance at the federal, state, and local levels, which I will not do. The high hard ones include the feds doing national defense, foreign policy, interstate infrastructure, and uniformity of delineated rights and contract law. The states would determine their own details after that, and sort out with their cities and counties as to what functions get really local. Here is a link that discusses the book in greater detail -
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/sep/11/book-review-america-30/

I'd be happy to respond to individual points on which you question my particular preferences in governance.

Ken Jones

Barry I disagree. Walt stated the board is acting like our well known progressives. Yet one of the most vocal members of the recalled board is Don Bessee, a member of the NCRP. In fact a well known conservative. Mr.Bessee is not acting in any manner that is progressive. As I stated more of a regressive. Any reason you fail to address this simple fact Barry? And the newly elected board acting like the Tea Party? Walt makes assertions that are not based on any reality except his own perceptions.

fish

Yeah George, the days of white heterosexual Northern European Christian Protestant male dominated communities are over, thank goodness.

More silliness from the "Political Agnostic".

There are any number of more "vibrant" communities you could have selected Paul. Yet you remain in your secluded, slightly upper class, largely white community in the California foothills....one could be forgiven for doubting your political and cultural convictions.

Barry Pruett

"KJ": Walt never mentioned Don Bessee; you did. Good use of rhetoric. Did you learn that at Cal? Further, dictating the use of one's property, is very "progressive." I think Walt's point is that people want to be free from other's dictates whether those dictates come from a HOA or the government.

Walt

Lets see.... A governing board the "people" just voted "out" ( and by what I can tell,, legally) refuse to abide by the "will" of the people. " The vote doesn't count, because we say so."
From what I read on this, "the board" was out for a power grab, with " fining power".. " You WILL pay "... YUP,,, Just like LOP, and LWW. What next? Outlaw motorcycles and anything two stroke within AS boundaries? Then the fence will
need to go up as well. ( that should cost PLENTY! )

I LEFT LWW because of the people with power trips. No more getting permission and paying a fee to do something with MY property. From parking a car on the lawn, to what color I choose to paint my house. I can even shoot a pellet gun
in my own backyard. ( NOT in LWW!!)
I don't have a clue of the political bend of any of the people that got voted
off the board. Their actions are doing the talking at this stage.

Like I said. these people are " ACTING " ( find WIKI Ken, and look it up)
like textbook Progressives. How many pages of "rules" was this "board" trying to impose on people? What were they for, other than the ability to fine people and to "keep them in line."? What would come next? Paid positions?

Yes... THIS is what Progressives DO. THEN the " Tea Party" ( just for example) voted the clowns out. " WE don't need your "oversight" WE have done fine without you. ( NO!! Your not taxing us for your personal pleasure).
WE will not become part of "your" collective.

My LWW " assessment" is about 1600 bucks a year, for the "privilege" of owning there. ( it increases every year) It looks like I need to sell the place to pay for my Obummer care. The yearly assessment will make a one month payment.. Isn't it GREAT?

Megan

This is all I have to say on the matter -
http://www.theonion.com/articles/man-who-eats-breakfast-at-dunkin-donuts-every-morn,30259/

Ken Jones

Barry I mentioned Don Bessee because he was part of the directors recalled. He is not progressive. Walt claims the board acted progressive.
The ASPOA and the issues are not political, neither progressive nor Tea Partyish. Walt made an unsuccessful attempt at drawing a correlation.
Now you bring up Cal Barry. Pitiful. Don't recall mentioning Cal ever. Stick to the point Barry. Your bias is showing and it is ugly.

Walt

Dai.... You said you live on the "outskirts". ( I take that as just outside A.S. boundary lines) I also take it you wouldn't be subject to the regs., fees, and dues. It's always easy to be one side or the other, when you have no skin in the game. I'm not the kind that will vote to "stick it to others" when that "vote", no matter what the outcome, won't affect me. " Why the Hell not? It's not coming out of my pocket, I can still do what I want here,(but not there)"

EVERY law or Reg impedes someone's rights in some form or fashion.
The next law to be written just might effect you in a way you will not like.
So be careful of "backing" rules and laws that don't pertain to you directly,
because the next one headed up the road just might. You may need help and reinforcements from those that had the same thing happen to them.

Barry Pruett

J: The faulty logic is evident. You are labeling someone and asserting that they are behaving in such a manner. In this instance your self-stated label does not fit. As a rhetoric kind of guy, I understand that it your ultimate goal to defend the progressive brand, but once again, you are overstepping the bounds of logic.

fish

Yes Megan....I imagine your Dunkachannio guy is balanced nicely by Obamaphone woman!

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tpAOwJvTOio&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DtpAOwJvTOio

Always remember Megan...."Romney....he suck"!

Ken Jones

Barry you live in rhetoric having little substance. Of course you can't explain why a member of of the NCRP and also a recalled director is "acting" progressive. No labeling Barry, research the ASPOA minutes and the recall group's minutes. You also seem to neglect acknowledging that I agreed with Walt on the recall. You need to understand logic before accusing anyone of overstepping the boundaries Barry.

Walt

@ Paul... Concerning the DC, OH YES!!! They are a thorn in the Progressive LIB'S
hinny, just as much as FOX. ( Keep up the great work Tucker Carlson)
The DC has taken down many a LIB. And a few RINOs for that matter.

I know,,, I know.... Only "true" journalists are Progressives and must vote LIB. If they don't paint " Dear Leader" in a good light, they have no business being in the news business... Right? So "O" and Co, was MORE than justified rummaging through the likes of AP, and branding a FOX reporter as a "spy" in the secret court, "just to keep tabs on him". ( Eric the Withholder even stated they had no intention of prosecuting)

Marginalize the DC all you like. They are now a force to be reckoned with.
Now scurry off to Mediamatters, Motherjones, or even Yubanet(LOL.. Real followers of the law there..)

If you don't fly cover (the press)for this Progressive administration,
your an enemy of the state.. Right Paul?

Now for a dose of history. " The Press",,, was/is supposed to be adversarial
to ALL politicians. No matter who is in charge. That's why " Freedom of the press" is written into the Bill of Rights. That has turned into " Help cover it up" where LIBS are concerned. I give you Obummercare ,Benghazi, IRS, DOJ, EPA,
and probably a few others that slipped passed,, that " impartial" media has been anything "but" impartial about.
If LIB news had done their job according to the Bill of Rights, and held this administration accountable for their deeds, "O" and Co. would have been tossed from office by now,, if not elected in the first place.
Even today LIB media helps make excuses for "O", instead of hanging all these issues around his neck, since that's right where they belong.

Walt

Special delivery Paul,,Here is some "enlightenment" from The Daily Caller.
( And on topic )

http://dailycaller.com/2013/11/08/bedford-is-there-anything-worse-than-a-un-treaty/

And speaking of U.N.,, There are some local "U.N. organization folk" right here.
They have treated me in the same way, the U.N. has treated everyone else on the planet. " make a bunch of promises and don't keep them".
I loaned them some documents and "artifacts" for some " event" years ago.
Think they would have returned them by now? I wonder who has them today in their "personal" collection....

Todd Juvinall

I see Ken Jones is at it again. Same ol' same ol'. He complains that Barry mentioned "Cal". Then attacks Barry. I then read where Jones said the ASPOA fellow, Bessee, worked with Todd J. Now I guess he means me. Why would he say that? Because in his warped thought process Jones thinks that shows Bessee is a radical? Too funny. I actually did not work with that fellow Jones brought up. So Jones is a liar.

Walt

The SyFy channel has a great program on today. It mirrors Obummercare in the near future. " Repo Men " is the name. Just this time it's organ transplants they are "repo-ing". Don't have the money up front? NO PROBLEM... Get your procedure on credit. (19.8 % interest) Heck.. even a three month grace period
if "you just don't have the money at the moment".
But don't count on a phone call like we get from our local "RCA Credit".
They just track you down and cut it out of you. No matter where you are.
No wonder "O" and Co. is using the IRS to enforce "O"care.

Heath care under government oversight, with union contracts.
And this flick came out in 2010. Hollywood DID see this coming...

I say this "movie" is required viewing for Lefties. This is what "can" happen.

Walt

Looky what turned up. I will give LIB news a few days to figure out how they will spin this,, if they even report on it at all.
"O" has done a great job of pissing off the entire Middle East against us.
Now " they" want a piece "O"'s hide.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/11/09/obama-accused-of-crimes-against-humanity-in-international-court/

This should throw Paul into a fit. LOL!!

Paul Emery

Lets add the war crimes of lobbing drones on sovereign nations to Obama and the US list of war crimes.

Barry Pruett

Ok J! I give up and agree with you and Walt...the ASPOA board is behaving "progressively." You win.

I cannot get over how much you sound like someone else who obsesses about my internet writings...

Walt

That British space junk that's on it's way down, will pass a few times within eye sight . Just maybe....

http://www.satview.org/5d.php?sat_id=34602U

Ken Jones

Todd you and Don Bessee did work the Republican booth together at the fair in 2013. I saw you and Don together on Saturday night. So why do you lie Todd, are you ashamed of your association with Don?

Bill Tozer

Mr. Jones, I reject your premise that Todd and some other dude worked together. Being in the same place at the same time does not mean worked together. Seems to me that you fine gentlemen of the liberal persuasion are running out of bullets. Have you seen the price of ammo lately? Might explain it all.

It reminds me of a late-Soviet joke: A man stands in line all day for bread, only to have the baker come out and say there is none. He loses it, and begins ranting about the government. Eventually, a man in a trench coat puts a hand on his shoulder.

“Be careful, comrade. You know, in the old days, it would have been …" and he mimes a gun pointed at the head.

The man walks home, dejected. When he walks in the door, his wife takes one look at his face and drops the plate she is holding.

“What’s wrong, Ivan? Were they out of bread?”

“It’s worse than that. They’re out of bullets.”

The libs are not as fun lately since the launch of Obamacare. Turning everything upside down on its head to insure 15 million people, economics be damned. Ain't working to good lately is it? Hopefully more people will sign up than are losing their chosen health coverage.....at some future date uncertain. Hope, Change you can believe in...it will all work out...someday.

You libs are not alone on this hostile planet. All consumers are running out of bullets since Uncle Barry has been stockpiling ammo.

When ammo is outlawed, only the Government will have ammo. Have a nice day :)

Bill Tozer

Dr. Rebane, I disagree with your premise as well. Americans should not follow politics because we are too busy and already have too much on our plate. President Obama says its best to leave it all up to "professional politicians", not the American public. Great Father knows best.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9i6Sbnj-hk

Todd Juvinall

Ken Jones. I recall working with two women. One was Kim Pruett. So, back to you.

Walt

Remember the "Spotted owl" to stop logging? NOW,, it's the so called," Black backed Woodpecker".
Yes, the ECO peckerwoods have come up with a new excuse to stop the salvage logging of 400 square miles of the " Rim fire ".
Sen.Tom McClintock has introduced a Bill to get the logging started.
The local loggers could sure use the work down that way.

OHHH,, the firestorm I got from S.F. LIBS just after the Rim fire started,
because I made the comment about "their" historical record on salvage logging. A few words on "their" roadless plan in " virgin" forests, lack of allowing fuel reduction, AND of course the great idea of the past,,, "fire suppression". Nope,, "they" sure weren't happy.
I would love to throw in an " I told you so". It seems I got "86ed" from S.F. Gate. I used the word " Liberal" ,,too "liberally". Who would have believed that could happen? LOL!!

@Walt 11:48am on 11/10

To answer your questions: I'm not bound by Alta Sierra's CC&R's, but I have been a voluntary member of ASPOA for over 10 years. It used to cost $25/year to be a member. Now it costs $45. With the membership comes certain benefits. For many years I had a child that attended Alta Sierra Elementary and I was a board member of the parents' club. In summary, yes, what happens in Alta Sierra does affect me and my property values.

With regard to Alta Sierra, you've made some strong general points--which I am sympathetic to, but their applicability to the ASPOA situation is not so strong, and for those living within Alta Sierra, there MANY other considerations and perspectives one should evaluate.

...Which takes me back to the thrust of George's initial point---We all have a responsibility to take the time to get properly INFORMED before we vote.
