[Am on travel and daily connectivity is iffy. Am very interested in hearing readers' take on what is the definitive yet plausible disclosure about Hillary's emails that would start other Dems coming out of the woodwork to throw their hats into the ring for 2016. So far everything looks like the email thing may become yesterday's newspaper if nothing more is revealed - which to me would be outrageous.]
Actually, the Clinton slush fund accepting deposits from foreign entities that received money and goodness knows what else from the US govt while she was Sec Of State is far more damaging. The left loves to play up the 'Papa Bush did business with Hitler' story and then they try to ignore the fact that the Clintons 'do business' with govts openly hostile to civil rights on a regular basis. She's laying low for the moment, but will return in full glory to save us from ourselves. Count on it.

Dr. Rebane. Go ahead and get enraged about Hillary's e-mails eventually having the same interest as the newspaper lining the birdcage. Election is too far out for the story to have legs. Might as well enjoy your travels and become a happy wanderer.
To L: Ok, I will play this new game. I must admit I never noticed the close facial resemblance of Walt's favorite man of the cloth the Most Alustrious Assholiness Reverend Al Sharpton and our next AG, the lovely Loretta Lynch. Hmmmm. I see your point.

Here is a way Clinton can get elected.
Obama wants mandatory voting in USA. He says this is a way to counteract big money. I don't see Congress going for this, I guess you can say and do what you want in your second term. A bad idea in my book. You can't force people to care about the issues. If you don't care, stay home.
Here is a CNN link, I am sure this everywhere by now.

Nice...Obummer made another one of his made up fact statements in the CNN piece. "The people who tend not to vote are young, they're lower income, they're skewed more heavily towards immigrant groups and minority groups," Obama said. "There's a reason why some folks try to keep them away from the polls."
Oh oh mr president I have a freakin question for you...Who are those folks specifically that are trying to keep these groups that you claim to represent from voting? Just name one.....I am waiting.....

Obama speaking about mandatory voting is the ultimate anti-freedom position on America. A person has the complete freedom to vote and when they choose not to that is a position of free choice. I do get his opinion though. If we had mandatory voting the goal is to disenfranchise people who lack color. I think he is a racist bigot.
Posted by: Todd Juvinall | 19 March 2015 at 08:39 AM
Aren't hearings called hearins in Penn Valley? Sounds like it!
Posted by: Barry Pruett | 19 March 2015 at 09:10 AM
Regarding mandatory voting, and recalling the Florida Bush v Gore recount process, a number of 'progressives' commenting on the news indicated they thought all undervotes were an error of counting. Of course, *everyone* casting a ballot intended to vote for someone for President, and the recount had to discover who that vote was intended for. How to enforce mandatory voting? Might I suggest an indelible dye such as is used in third world kleptocracies; it's useful both to insure the person only voted once, and to point out to any death squads who didn't vote at all.
Refusing to vote is as an important a right as the right to cast a vote; that includes both the right not to vote at all or to not vote for a particular office or issue.

Funny, I've been a proponent for mandatory voting for a while now, but I hadn't heard that Obama supported this idea. Eleven countries have manadotory voting and they sky hasn't fallen. Also, you only have to cast a ballot, but you do not have to vote for a candidate if you don't like any of the above (which IMHO would be the biggest vote gettter of all).
Voting is more than a right, it's a responsibility. Anything that gets people to pay attention to what is going down in DC would be beneficial to the country as a whole.
BTW, the "death squads" are running rampant in Luxembourg, Australia where voting is mandatory. NOT!
PS This is one Democrat who hopes Hillary doesn't get the nomination. I just couldn't stand 4 or 8 years of the inevitable political infighting that would come with her in office. Feel the same about Jeb Bush.

"fish," you're even more ignorant that you sound (in print and in person). LOL.
Here's a little background on the poet E.E. Cummings: "‘It was with these collections of the 1920s that Cummings established his reputation as an avant-garde poet conducting daring experiments with language. Speaking of these language experiments, M. L. Rosenthal wrote in The Modern Poets: A Critical Introduction: “The chief effect of Cummings’ jugglery with syntax, grammar, and diction was to blow open otherwise trite and bathetic motifs through a dynamic rediscovery of the energies sealed up in conventional usage…. He succeeded masterfully in splitting the atom of the cute commonplace.'”

Of course they are defending to over on the ‘circle of stupid’ but in this case they may not be COMPLETELY stupid.
The solution to nonsensical propositions like this is a state constitutional amendment addressing how proposition are qualified for the California ballot. My organization supported such an amendment a few years back that would have, a) raised the fees for filing initiatives, b) require pre-screening of initiatives for constitutionality and provide a ‘cooling off period’ to ensure we don’t spend an inordinate amount of time on initiatives that are blatantly unconstitutional, c) provide legislative analysis in advance of qualifying initiatives so the financial consequences are clearer, d) require a signature threshold based on the average number of voters in a statewide election over the last 10 years instead of the number of voters in the last Gubernatorial election, amongst other things.
Many of those ‘other things’ were included in SB 1253 signed into law by the Governor in 2014, which improves transparency around initiatives for voters and provides some logical ‘off ramps’ for initiate sponsors should they seek to remove a previously qualified initiate from the ballot, but in my humble opinion the SB 1252 did not go far enough.
The place where the wing nuts have it right is that there should not be any sort of arbitrary or capricious means of unilaterally removing a citizens initiative based on its content, but there could be a ‘constitutional filter’ applied by amendment, unless of course the entire ‘citizens initiative’ process is eliminated from California state law, which I would not support. The reality is only about half of the states even have the initiative-referendum process.
Well it's like you say Steve, we have to deal with the law as it is, not as how we would like it to be. The matter under discussion is complete idiocy and yet your spherical friend has yet another case of the vapors.

This ballot proposal is akin to yelling fire in a theater, and as such should not protected under the 1st amendment. There are too many sick puppies out there who would take it seriously. While I agree that the initiative process is flawed, time consuming, and often wasteful, the author could have picked a less volatile subject than advocating the murder of gays. One would think that with a resume in the tech industry as extensive as yours that you would have run into the concept of "blog handles" before. I may be incorrect in my assumption and that because you probably spent as much or more time fetching coffee for the CNet guys as you did for Herb Caen that that kept you away from exposure to the real world and you missed it.
You "outed" me...what over a year ago.....and yet here we are. I post as 'fish' because it's what I'm used to at this point.

No "fish" you're just a coward with a personality disorder.

I already know the answer jeffy but why don't you tell the assembled why you have the "real name" fetish?
Posted by: fish | 20 March 2015 at 10:50 AM
Because I believe people should be accountable for their comments rather than throw rocks and hide in the corner, like you do. Chicken little personified.

Yes Mrs Kravitz.....you've certainly nailed me....why don't you go mince around Nevada City telling all your "friends".
Posted by: fish | 20 March 2015 at 10:52 AM
"fish," they already know. You've done more to sink this blog's credibility than anybody. Thanks!
Posted by: Jeff Pelline | 20 March 2015 at 10:53 AM
Although a relatively minor character on Bewitched, the role was memorable enough that the term "Gladys Kravitz" entered the American lexicon, and is even today used as a synonym for a nosy neighbor or colleague.

Yes Gladys......

"fish," I don't even think Freud could help you, much less Dr. Phil. The fact that you gravitate to the hard-right blogs in western Nevada County from Carmichael, given all the content that is out in the blogosphere, speaks volumes about them. You have made my day! BTW, I will be interviewing you for my book "State of Jefferson." It would be incomplete without you.

If you feel that there is something that I need to "held responsible" for you have:
1) My name
2) my e-mail.....when you said that all a person needed to post at the Fathills Report was to use real name and provide contact information
3) Where I live
Now since you love to speed dial Sheriff Royal any time you think somebody has even hinted at...and I chuckle at the phrase...threatening you. I can only assume that your soft noggin has failed to detect any comments that rise to that level.
How else am I to be held "accountable" for what I've posted? I

Well, the "vanity press" eagerly awaits your weighty tome. I can't imagine why you would want to interview me though as I'm not now and have never been a proponent of the SOJ and rather find myself in agreement with Frisch on it's chances of surviving the process.

The Sheriff told me that the right wing bloggers and political activists "feed off each other." No kidding! And let's face it, a clown whose metaphors are Mrs. Kravitz from Bewitched is not exactly a mental giant. "Begone!" LOL.

Are you suggesting Albert Labriola is an "ignorant, bigoted redneck?" For the well educated, literary master you claim to be, your memory has some astounding blank spots. Of course Labriola is not alone in this interpretation of In-Just as you MUST know.

jeffy, he said that to assuage your feelings and make you go away so you would stop wasting his time.
Regarding my intellect.... I freely admit that I'm a midwit....which makes it all the sadder that I routinely make you look like a overwrought, hyperventilating, and censorious fool. You have a masters degree from a major private university and yet, in my estimation you "write".....your chosen profession, worse than just about everybody who posts here.
Posted by: fish | 20 March 2015 at 11:25 AM
"Joe Smith," No I'm not suggesting that. But I'm telling you that you are. You have twisted the meaning of a beloved spring poem to fit a myopic western Nevada County political agenda. And to think, there is an outcry that the Lamphier case is not political! You have proven otherwise, "Joe Smith."
Posted by: Jeff Pelline | 20 March 2015 at 11:29 AM
"fish," you are a byproduct of the hard-right movement in our county. that's why you're perfect for my book.

Ah...the leftist "Conspiracy Theorist" in full flower.
Buh bye jeffy.....

Let's remember of all the courses of study available at UC Berkeley, Pelline chose Rhetoric. Perhaps because the job market for empty rhetoricians is generally saturated, he followed that with a masters in Journalism which probably cost a pretty penny at Northwestern (should be Northmidwestern) to give him some gravitas writing about people who know more than he does.
Yes, the local nutcase Right Wing feed off each other. So does the local nutcase Left Wing.
So Jeff, your confidante, Sheriff Royal, he's in on this political persecution of Lamphier that your Greek Chorus is so upset about? Talk about conspiracy nutcases. If the kiddie porn said to be on his computer was put there by someone else, why didn't Lamphier come out swinging with an absolute denial of being the one to have downloaded them? No, if I was on the jury I wouldn't use that as a reason to vote guilty but I think he'd have been better off saying nothing than the lawyered up statement that was crafted for him. "I won't argue my case in the newspapers, I will defend my good name in court" takes the high road.

People like “fish” think the First Amendment lets them do whatever they want — unless, of course, they disagree with what YOU’RE saying. They are the ultimate hypocrites.
Don't know why you make this claim?
I disagree with you on 99.9% of everything you say...yet I have in no way attempted to stop you from saying it.
They did teach you at Major U 1 and Major U 2 that the first amendment doesn't protect you from having your ideas criticized didn't they? Maybe you were absent when they taught that/

Gregory,
You are nutcase in your own league. Congratulations!

Wow! I go to the doctor and return to this back and forth! What a hoot! I would say reading this thread that Pelline is off his noggin. No one I know would support killing anyone except murderers. So on its face the initiative is ridiculous. But as usual Pelline tries to tie it to the "right" here in the county. Perhaps the voter registration of the initiatives proponents would be helpful? Anyone, anyone?
Regarding "fish". I find his comments quite funny and erudite. He doesn't take sh** from anyone and that is just fine. Pelline though is the leader of the lefty gangs here in Western Nevada County and everyone knows it. All the people in the "know" don't believe a word he says or writes and his world is really really tiny.
