Todd, I'm going to predict right now that unless the ultimate Republican candidate addresses the moral and ethical obligations of capitalism, their candidate is going to face the same fate as Mittens. Along with discussion created by the Pope's upcoming address about our obligations to our Mother Earth, Paul's point about the moral side of capitalism will be THE front-and-center issue in 2016.

Don Bessee

Sock puppet troll at 1248am- I have been retired for quite some time so its been many, many moons since I had that sweet view on the 42nd floor. How is that opinion polling work going for you? ==== The 'jon' troll at 352 in full revisionist history mode! lol He will always cherish the thought it was the occupier scum that beat Romney and not his fade off after the foreign policy debate. The weak turnout of the base is what it is scumbags notwithstanding. Go annie fox in liberal lament land you need the help there.

Jon

Paul Emery, if you haven't read the Dr. Paul Farrell piece from Marketwatch on the Pope's Thursday address, its a good one. Dr. Farrell being a reformed Wall Street Investment Quant/Capitalist who possesses the morality and long term vision sadly lacking in that arena.

I would put our poor's income and amenities up against most people on the planet. I would think you all would be proud that in America there is little of the problems the billions on the planet face everyday. Our poor have three TV's, food stamps, Section 8 grants, free legal, and we even buy their cars and insurance if they want to attend college. My goodness you libs are just fricking ingrates to the wonders of this country and the amazing benefits gained by even the "poorest" person.

Capitalism made this possible;e under the protection of our Constitution. Hell, we even have 50 million illegal aliens here and we are taking good care of them! All this and many liberals on dope that fogs there brains and makes them non productive. Thanks goodness there are still a lot of Americans willing to pick up the slack of the slackers.

Walt

"jon" would LOVE to be back in the USSR. No pesky Capitalism there.. " THIS is what Comrade "jon" will do." ( name your crappy job) " This is what comrade "jon" will be given in compensation for his service to the people". ( Think less than burger flippers on a good day) " Here is what "jon" will drive.( it doesn't matter Soviet crap cans are all the same.
Only government officials get heaters for the Winter... "jon" would never be gov. official material.) " Here is where comrade "jon" will live". ( pack'm and stack'm... Sardines have it better.)
When "jon" outlives his usefulness,,, well,,,, we really don't know about that. soylent Green? They gotta feed the peasants something. Beat soup gets real old.

Judging by "jon's" last posts,, I believe N. Korea is a better spot for him.
Better not sass Kim,, "jon",, he might use you for mortar team target practice.

Don Bessee

Since the 'jon' is only talking to emery now perhaps they should go hang out on the boardwalk and prattle away to each other in constant agreement on their enlightenment. Lots of love for the occupier set there. ;-) GO CCC! lol

Jon

Don, where is the verifiable evidence that the far right wing base sat home in 2012 and by doing so- re-elected Obama, a guy they ranted, raved and hated BEYOND HATRED for the previous 4-5 years, blaming him for every conceivable thing in America and the World? You guys keep using this one after every election setback, and its comical!

Jon

Don, why waste such a great piece from Farrell on you guys who will simply pissed off that someone as big as the Pope is not going to back off in his critique of unfettered capitalism? His message, and subsequent messages in his lifetime, will stay with the people of the world for a long, long time... Go ahead and poke away at the Pope.

Jon

Walt, I just love it when you get all worked up and start up on the 50s/60s era cold war commie rhetoric. BEAT SOUP? That was true LOL stuff.

Todd Juvinall

Walt and DonB, I think the troll "jonnie" is now so irrelevant here it is pointless to debate him. He loses every argument for goodness sakes.

Paul Emery

Don

Calling yourself a conservative is the joke of the day considering how you hide under the Federal government's skirt when it comes to Marijuana laws. States rights? Forget it. What a laugh.

Todd Juvinall

Don your are a good conservative in my view. Illegal activity needs to be rooted out regardless if it state or feds. It is amazing there are lawless people like Paul Emery in charge of the "news" here.

Walt

Me? Worked up?? Because of YOU???,, LOL!!! Now there is a good one.
Funny dude. You and Paul are sure making short work of the bong water.
Better sip it sparingly. We are in a LIB induced drought.
Who left the gate open at the Progressive holding cell? The mentally infirm are running wild.

Don Bessee

It is always a big giggle to have the arch socialists assuming the mantle of conservative credential review administration. That is in 0's budget proposal, right? LOL! I don't think anyone even pattie s. would say I am hiding anywhere, in am in your face as they say. It is cute that you fall back on that one again, could it be your deflection ccc on my Triassic period carbon research yesterday? Since we are in America I would guess that Americans (other than religion hating socialists/atheists as a talking point) will listen to this Popes pronouncement just as they listen to his pronouncements on contraception and abortion.

Bill Tozer

My, the liberal mind speaks and I must say that the recent comments by our liberal friends with their liberal minds are rather caustic and bordering on mean spirited. Gee, like the only thing they got to throw at Conservatives is who is a bad conservative and who the baddest worse conservative really is. Apparently they think Don is a worsest conservative of the Fab 5. Sure, the rest of their usual locked in talking points are always mentioned. For those who seek a list of the usual talking points (like if they don't constantly bring them anyway) you can find the list word for word if you read last weekend's Hillary Reintroduction Official Campaign Kickoff Speech she read so passionately on Roosevelt Island. Or, just keep pretending you hear them.

The Liberal Mind speaks are we are bad people to The Mind. My, they must have sleep through that part in kindergarten when the teacher's aide passed out minds. Or, the sweet teacher's aide could have run out and the eventual libs had to go outside to the old school yard crapper and root through until they found their The Mind.

Great topic, Dr. Rebane.

Don Bessee

PE-- Regarding federal and state laws, I would point out that me and my crew have been actively engaged in the legislative process on the city, county, federal and state levels for many years. We have blocked the Amiano bills for years. Lots of local victories across the state in recent years that have withstood all the legalizer attacks. We are regularly winning at vote levels almost as bad for you as the Measure S whippin. Go Golden State! The Warriors TOO!

Jon

Walt and Don apparently do not recognize their confused and generally angry rambles about the direction of our nation and world. Incredible to witness.

Self Awareness is a very important trait.

Jon

Here's some red meat for the aging, angry white conservative contingent...

Walt

"jon".. Seems your testing Monsanto's GMO pot strain. Please report your adverse side effects to your handler. Thanks for showing dope should not be legalized.
Scratch Liberalism off the list for things MMJ is helpful for.

Todd Juvinall

Jonnie, Walt and DonB are interesting. You are a boor. Why come here and get whipped by your betters all the time? Libs are just dopey I guess.

So your link is about "angry white guys"? No one here is angry. We just like to debate libs like you and watch you squeal!

Bill Tozer

Ok, for those of us who are products of the CA public school system, I brought a visual aide to help mine the richness of the Liberal Mind.
Yo, Don, not are liberals are God haters. Probably most of the hard core extremist far left radicalprogressives are, but not all liberals, just the majority who are totally out of the mainstream and totally out of touch. You know, that 19-21% of the American population.
Opps, back to visual aides. Me thinks a new government program is in order for those recovering from liberalism past the age of 28-34. 28 for women damaged by indoctrination, 34 years old for males who haven't manned up yet. It will take years to unlearn the toxic thought patterns in their once fertile minds. Maybe an intervention for those still in denial. Just a suggestion. And now, boys and girls and girlie men, visual aides to grasp the depth and width and height of the Liberal Cranium

https://www.facebook.com/USAPatriots/photos/a.639096312787612.1073741826.133154313381817/965476620149578/?type=1&theater

Boy, libbowels sure have excelled in how to take a simple thing and make it so darn complex. Hey social issue oriented lefties, KISS....keep it simple stupid.

Todd Juvinall

BillT, thanks for the visual. It is sooo funny! Liberals truly have a mental disorder. ObamaCare may pay for their treatment. Jonnie first. LOL!

Paul E, June 16, 4:02pm

We already have corporate owned slave institutions that fence in workers. They are called prisons for profits. Inmates earn about 30 cents an hour manufacturing goods for American corporations (especially defense contractors). No wonder the LE groups are hell bent on keeping the prisons full.

They have requested an additional $500M to upgrade and build new prisons despite the fact that Prop 47 has released thousands of prionsers. LE response was, "Don't worry, we will fill the beds soon enough."

Something to be proud about: America is Number 1 in incarcerating our fellow citizens.

Todd Juvinall

Patricia, do you have some links for review? If the democrats who control California are doing this incarceration slavery, we need to stop it.

Account Deleted

"Something to be proud about: America is Number 1 in incarcerating our fellow citizens."
So - what do you suggest, Patricia? Just open the gates and let them all out? Or just incarcerate to a certain number and then make the others have a time out?
The left controls the system that cranks out uneducated, unemployable youths by the millions. And they end up living a life of crime. Enjoy!

George Boardman

As long as we're on the subject of reason denied, what's your take on Accelerated Christian Education (ACE)? I'm guessing the people who buy into this nonsense would never vote for a godless Democrat.

Todd Juvinall

Never heard of it.

To steal a line from Mr. Frisch......shouldn't you be out yelling at the kids to "stay off your lawn"?

Todd Juvinall

OK Boardman, If this link takes us to what you are speaking of could you tell us what is wrong with the schools? My goodness, you atheists are just scared to death that people have some moral and ethical values aren't you?

http://www.aceministries.com/

There are democrats that are religious and other than a few things there are not many differences between the people of both parties. It is the atheists and "anything goes" democrats, (like the white gal wanting to be black) that have hijacked the democrat party that are the problem.

George Rebane

PaulE 402pm - Have you now admitted to being a moral absolutist - that you know the moral boundaries with which others' behavior should be constrained? Sounds like the stuff of Islam et al, and also locally purveyed by the FUE et al. And your use of strawmen like 'slave labor behind barbed wire' to pillory your opposition sounds like an act of debate desperation.

GeorgeB 859am - ACE looks like a typical response to the secular humanist domination of schools and governance. Their creed and curriculum appears very fundamentalist Christian. Couldn't find anything definite on their teachings re creation and evolution, but wouldn't be surprised if they believed in the spot creation of pretty much everything we see. And they definitely believe that a prescient God created a good proportion of humanity destined for eternal suffering of the worst kind. Most Christians will get tangled in their undies when they try to explain that.

In any case Mr Boardman, what was your follow-on for bringing up ACE?

Jon

Others are asking as well.

What "others"?

George Rebane

Jon 949am - Frankly, after listening to the content, manner, and delivery of what generously can be called his 'speech', I would be bit concerned if he ever got into the WH. Perhaps he will subsequently prove me wrong, but I don't know ...

Joe Koyote

All of the talk about liberalism being a "mental disorder" or a "sickness" etc. etc. that George continues to promulgate and some denizens of the peanut gallery echo, reeks with the same stench as anti-semitism in Germany during the 1930's. The only purpose such malignant rhetoric serves is to denigrate and de-humanize the enemy (in this case fellow Americans who politically disagree instead of fellow Germans of the Jewish faith). I'm sure those with two digit intelligence quotients like Todd, who think people who sell pot to minors should be executed but corporations who poison millions should be lauded, would be the first to advocate putting liberals into re-education camps because, after all, they are sick aren't they? Talk about a slippery slope. In Germany it ended with gas chambers. Where will it end in America? The same forces that promote hate are at work here whether one can see the forest for the trees or not.

Actually JoKe it was the left that really got the "opposition to 'us' is a mental disorder" program up and running! Others made feeble attempts but as usual your intellectual predecessors perfected it. Read your Solzhenitszn and Article 58

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_abuse_of_psychiatry_in_the_Soviet_Union

Todd Juvinall

JoeK really is a tragic failure about history and equivalency in moral and ethical issues. The liberals have called conservatives what you just did JoeK and that has been most of my life. In reality, conservatives are the 180 opposite and you and yours fit the bill you so described. We are for freedom, individual freedom. You are for it for you but all the rest will be in a liberal prison.

I suggest you do as fish has said and go read some more. You must have been in a cave or some cloister for the last fifty years to actually believe what you spew.

Patricia Smith

Todd, June 17, 8:32pm. Is your Google search engine broken? I saved you the trouble of searching. Here is just one story about prison workers. This is something even the "liberal" news outlets don't bring up because they are owned by some of the companies that benefit from this process. (GE)

Human rights organizations, as well as political and social ones, are condemning what they are calling a new form of inhumane exploitation in the United States, where they say a prison population of up to 2 million – mostly Black and Hispanic – are working for various industries for a pittance. For the tycoons who have invested in the prison industry, it has been like finding a pot of gold. They don’t have to worry about strikes or paying unemployment insurance, vacations or comp time. All of their workers are full-time, and never arrive late or are absent because of family problems; moreover, if they don’t like the pay of 25 cents an hour and refuse to work, they are locked up in isolation cells.

According to the Left Business Observer, the federal prison industry produces 100% of all military helmets, ammunition belts, bullet-proof vests, ID tags, shirts, pants, tents, bags, and canteens. Along with war supplies,
prison workers supply 98% of the entire market for equipment assembly services; 93% of paints and paintbrushes; 92% of stove assembly; 46% of body armor; 36% of home appliances; 30% of headphones/microphones/speakers; and 21% of office furniture. Airplane parts, medical supplies, and much more: prisoners are even raising seeing-eye dogs for blind people.

The whole article can be read here: http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-prison-industry-in-the-united-states-big-business-or-a-new-form-of-slavery/8289

Jon

fish, google news yesterday- the lead stories and bulk of headlines on all major news outlets was in regards to Trump's racist, nonsensical ranting about the direction of the world and he's a rich guy who can unilaterally beat ISIS and all the bad guys in the world. It needs to be us against every other person and country in the world. He even ripped into our allies. It was a newsworthy event because he will force himself into the debates and become a large face of the REPUBLICAN PARTY. He ain't going away.

George Rebane

JoeK 1000am - I assume you're accusing me not GeorgeB. Where did you dig up the quotes that you attribute to me?

To be clear, I have cited clinical studies that show liberals use discernibly different parts of the brain with which to reason than do conservatarians. The leap to call such differences 'mental illness' or 'sickness' is a large one and does require more sober examination. But there is no doubt that the two ideological poles reason very differently. Today eight years of RR's almost 60,000 comments are strong testimony to that. Some examples -
http://rebaneruminations.typepad.com/rebanes_ruminations/2012/08/the-liberals-intellectually-baseless-ideology.html

http://rebaneruminations.typepad.com/rebanes_ruminations/2012/08/the-liberals-intellectually-baseless-ideology.html

However, only the Left has suggested and proposed the silencing and/or incarceration of those who disagree with its worldview. Your charges that our Right has made such overtures are baseless, and await evidence.

George Boardman

Since the inquiring minds around here don't want to dig too deep, here are some examples of the ACE curriculum:

There is nothing stopping Donald Trump from holding a press conference ranting away for awhile and claiming he's going to be president.

That that will never happen doesn't seem to enter into the equation.

George Rebane

GeorgeB 1118am - I take it that this is your response to my 937am, or was there more to your thinking?

Jon

George R- perhaps George B's point with the Salon article is to show how utterly counterproductive these non-science, non-STEM based teachings are to the conservative goal of improving America's standing in the world. This stuff is a national embarrassment and will not further our nation's goal of properly educating our young people. You want to talk about American exceptionalism, at the same time supporting insane curricula such as that?

Jon

fish, if for no other reason Trump disqualified himself from being a serious candidate by failing to grasp the sheer ignorant irony of playing Neil Young's "Rockin In the Free World" as the capstone to his rant. A song written in response to Reagan interventionalism...

Prison labor is nothing new Patricia. Right down to the licence plate on your car.
Jail is not supposed to be a country club. Buts it's a fare cry from slave labor.
Yup,, they do have a choice to work or not. So what if they get "paid" pennies on the dollar?
"Hard Labor" is a valid sentence under the law. It's not cruel or unusual.
But what about us taxpayers, paying for their cable TV? They get better health care than most free people. Prisons can't even put up cell phone jammers to cut off smuggled in cell phones. ( Gives a whole new meaning to the words)
Cry me a river about the poor disadvantaged prisoner.

Jon

Walt, perhaps some prisoners do, in some cases, get better health care than many other free American people. Oh, Wait, wait, wait though.. I remember you arguing how great our healthcare system was before 2013! Now I am really confused.

Walt

Really "jon"? At least I didn't need to throw a rock through a business window on Mill St.
just to see a Dr. ( with handcuffs in place)
My medical coverage was pretty good before "stool sample" legislation kicked in.
" this is your coverage.. DEAL with it!"
Even Ca. rewrote the worker's comp laws to "redefine" what adequate care means.
In simple English," We don't care what our "contract" with you says. We have illegals to cater too now."

Patricia Smith

Walt, there is a signifiant difference in prisoner's working to make products that are sold and go toward repayig the cost of their incarceration in a state run system and private for-profit prisons that pocket the money. That is slave labor. Prisoners get solitary confinement for refusing to work.

And these for-profit prisons lobby for longer sentences and seek to incarcerate people for minor offenses to keep their work force intact. A Pennsylvania Judge who was receiving kickbacks from the prison complex was found guilty of sentencing poor people to prison who weren't guilty but couldn't afford a defense. http://www.forbes.com/sites/walterpavlo/2011/08/12/pennsylvania-judge-gets-life-sentence-for-prison-kickback-scheme/

So let me see if I understand you....you are worried about and based on that concern you are dismissing of an obviously non-viable presidential candidate over the selection of a 30 year old protest song by his campaign handlers?

Makes perfect sense to me.

Jon

fish, once again, lighten up ok? Trump is a certifiable idiot who will never be President -but- he is determined to soil The Brand and force his way into the Top Tier Repub debate group! Can only imagine him debating Lindsay Graham or Jeb! Ain't good for The Brand so favored by operatives like Todd.

Walt

OH WELLLLL.... Funny I don't hear you demanding the restitution for their victims.
Yup,, all those in jail are innocent. They were framed, or just growing MMJ.
Seen the crime rates going up since the passage of the decriminalization laws was passed?

You seem to have a bitch about everything where making a profit is concerned. ( except dope for some reason... and untaxed no less)

If someone makes a buck off prison labor, it's fine by me. ( don't like it? though... Don't do a crime that get's you sent there.) I think what really annoys those that don't like programs like A.C.E. is that the children that are in this program are more literate and productive when they are adults. And it doesn't cost the tax payers a dime. If I had only the choice of a govt school or A.C.E. for my child, I wouldn't hesitate to go with A.C.E.

Todd Juvinall

Actually Patricia I am in favor of "chain gangs" being reconstituted in America. Since it costs the taxpayers on average about $54,000 a year to incarcerate these lovelies, why not get something back? So, as far as the "slavery" claim, it is not slavery if the are being paid. At least they generate something beneficial for society.

The Salon article is by a liberal atheist I am sure and so why should we care? It is the same when liberals tell us conservatives how we should be to get votes. Why would they do that? They want to lose? Jeeze liberals are as dumb as a post.

Regarding Trump, what is the problem you libs have with him? You say he is all those goofy things and he can never be President so why the vitriol about someone? Maybe you actually fear his candid musings? That would be my guess, along with the usual liberal jealousies of a self mad man. That pollutes the liberal narrative when there is a very successful capitalist. You libs are so transparent, and I want to thank you for that. LOL!

Jonnie, "operative"? Is that a bad thing if I am? So far my guy is Scott Walker, a true executive and ass kicker of unions. Can't wait for unions to be disallowed in government. Probably sooner than we think. Also overhaul "civil service".

Paul Emery

Trump is a gift to the Dems. Trumpet, as I like to call him, is a remarkable self promoter that will catch all the headlines and divert attention from other Pubbers in the race. One of the great ego's of our time for sure.

Patricia Smith

Todd, chain gangs? First you demand I prove my statement about prisoners working for 30 cents an hour*, then when I do, you decide you are OK with the policy. You have failed to address any of the points I made. The money isn't going to the State from the goods these prisoners manufacture. They are going into the pockets of private companies while taxpayers pick up the expenses for housing them.

I have to laugh at your assumption that the author of the article is a liberal atheist. Even if that were so (and you have no imformation to support your claim), would that change the facts? You are so biased!

Since prisoners are making so many military items for private companies (for pennies), wouldn't it be interesting to see how much they are charging the military for these things? I somehow doubt they are passing the savings on to the gov't.

* Turns out I was wrong, It's 25 cents an hour, not 30.

George Rebane

PatriciaS 245pm - while not an expert on the commercial use of prison labor, I am aware of a couple of states' programs (e.g. Florida). And none of those allow the capitalist to walk away with labor costs so low that the prisoners' upkeep is not covered. For example, the manufacturer will pay the state $7/hr while the state pays the prisoner $0.50/hr, keeping the rest to cover the costs of incarceration. Do you have evidence to the contrary?

Walt

Please show the HUGE profits Patricia you claim. Co. records will do.
Yes, prisoners do make military goods. The combat boots I was issued were not the greatest.
Maybe to get better quality they need to be made by private industry. (preferably non union)
Did you read that link I put up for your reading pleasure? Sheriff Joe sure knows how to run a jail. Funny. He has the least return rate from what I can see.
Gotta love his style. If our troops can live in tents in the desert, so can thugs and goons. ( but LIB mind detests that)

Todd Juvinall

I think the >25 cents an hour is way too much money for incarcerated people. I think we need to utilize more prisoners in the labor pools for many things. All this angst about murderers, rapists and molesters having to do some labor is hilarious! Hell, a murderer can kill twenty people, dismember them, eat them and get LIFE!. Three square and a roof, medical care and a friggin law library. No Patricia, we need to get tougher on these scofflaws and don't get our panties in a wad about their "labor" expenditures. $54,000 a year for each prisoner should be spent on the overpass at Dorsey, not the transgender operation of some murderous fool.

Chain ganfs sure would get some attention wouldn't they?

Paul Emery, Trump may be a gift to other Republicans. Remember this is a primary. They will use Trump in ways you may not have even thought of. I think it is great!

OK,, false alarm... Some Jack a** burning a brush pile near jackass flats. They made him put it out.

Now to find out why PV is socked in with smoke.

On a day like this? Idiot!

Don Bessee

Walt, there is an 800 acre controlled burn at Beale with Cal Fire today and another in Smartsville Thurday. Lets hope for no mistakes.

Walt

Thanks Don. That would explain it. And the odd smell of said smoke. It must be plenty of star thistle. Not too "grassy" and no "pine fresh scent". ( too damned early for rice)

Walt

Fish.. Uh,,, "jon"???

Patricia Smith

George R, today, 3:19

What you are missing is that it is private companies not the state that are profiting from this arrangement. We taxpayers foot the bill to guarantee the beds are filled in these private prisons. We have to pay even when the population falls below a certain percentage (usually between 90 - 99%) which of course is not the case in state-run prisons. These companies pay the prisoners 30 cents a hour (the rates vary) and they pocket the profits when they sell the goods.

I still want to know how much the military is being billed for the items produced by prisoners. And Walt, I don't condone Starbucks or Victoria's Secrets using this cheap labor, but it is taxpayer dollars that are used to buy their goods which is why I picked on the industrial military complex.

Walt

Nice try Patricia. You cherry picked the "offenders". Yet conveniently left out LIB "capitalists", in typical LIB fashion. " These guys BAD!!!..... These guys,,, just not as bad..... Damn.. someone fact checked."

As for the Donald, Some guy named " John" (no less) made this comment
"Trump's announcement and the immediate melt down by the media and political class reminds me of a quote by George Orwell. "In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

Seems Trump is trumping the other candidates on the social media strings. And in the positive no less.
The masses see him as a guy with a set of 24K balls, and like what he has to say.
The idea of electing someone who is NOT a political whore is taking off.
The "community organizer" sure worked out well,,, uh,,, didn't it?
Maybe electing someone who actually has a lick of business sense just might be the ticket back to prosperity.

It's prison, for goodness sakes. Are we going for $15.00 an hour for them too? How about Obama cell phones and membership at the local country club?
Sheeesh - unclear on the idea of incarceration.

Jon

Oh Walt, fish told you to forget that political loser. So I have, but then you resurrect the topic! You must really like dem ass kickin comments he spouted out, ha? Yee Ha. In his insane rant yesterday- HE- Donald Trumpet, by virtue of his supposed billions and purity from lobbyists and other interests, promised to bring ISIS to its knees, put China straight, bring back all jobs to America, build an impenetrable wall on the southern border, not to mention use every racial stereotype and employ ever racist red meat tactic in the book to attempt to rile up the unthinking, angry white base. It was pretty funny actually. You appear to be one of the .0001% taking the charlatan seriously. No chance of any political office, but as we say, Bad for the Brand you so favor. Not exactly workin those demographics the Repubs will need!

Walt

Patricia doesn't understand that getting out of a jail cell to "work" is actually a PRIVILEGE. They don't get tossed into solitary for refusing to work. Those types are NOT WANTED .( need not apply) And just why would they Patricia? Who would want someone on "the line" who would produce sub standard equipment for our fighting men and women?
You can bet your best bag of weed that VETS who wound up in the klink and are well behaved would volunteer to make those things. Most still honor their own, and would do their best to give "their own" their best work. Money or no money.

Here's modern slavery. The govt forcing folks to work for nothing. In this case risking capital to build units and sell below cost.
http://calwatchdog.com/2015/06/17/ca-supremes-uphold-affordable-housing-requirement/
If the govt wants to subsidize po folk, they should pony up the money from public coffers. Once again, we see that lefties are oh so moral and high minded with some else's money.

Walt

Sorry Fish,, I guess things got a little lost in translation. Since "jon" like the word "idiot",, and you called it right about lighting a brush pile on fire in today's weather.
"jon" came to mind as to one who would light that match.

Poor "jon",,, Foaming at the mouth about " The Donald". Trump would ,and is a far cry better than the joke your idiots voted into office. Your affirmative action Prez. sure did ya' proud.

As I recall, Idiot LIBS said the same about Reagan. " How can a guy who co-stared with a chimp ever think about becoming Gov. of Ca.?" Then became the greatest President of modern time. Reagan took the same "take no prisoners" approach too.

As they say,, "he who laughs last, laughs best." So yuk it up now, laughing boy.
LIBS haven't done so hot if you may recall.

BTW,,, can you define the word "all"? Then pass the answer to Hillary, to reminder her about her claim about her emails.

Jon

Scott, lets stop the nonsense about the terrible fate of wealthy developers. Violins are being played, oh my.

You're not a big fan of giving a helping hand to young families, are ya?

Account Deleted

Well, you're wrong again, jon. I am a fan of helping out hard working folks with little money. First of all, we get rid of the California subdivision laws. Then we get rid of most of the inane laws regarding how and where folks can live. If a family wants to live in back of the industrial unit where the father has a shop, they can. If the family wants to live in a shack while they save their own money, they can.
'Wealthy' developers have the same rights you and I do. Would you like to have the govt make you work for nothing? Justice for all or justice for none. Sound familiar?

George Rebane

PatriciaS 448pm - Patricia, what I'm missing is your evidence that the states allowing private enterprises to hire prisoner labor do not garner the lion's share of the wages such private enterprises pay for the labor as per my 319pm example. What you are missing is that your bald and simplistic restatement of your initial assertion is sufficient evidence to support your claim. No one in these pages gets to orate unchallenged from such an ivory tower.

Jon

Scott, its called cost shifting, its called one cash-cow business unit subsidizing another laggard. Almost every multi-line business sees this. The developers are doing fine.

Jon

Walt, you are right about laughing at Trump. A bunch of laughs in my car tonight on the commute listening to Maddow and the fact that Trump had to pay actors to show up for his rantfest yesterday! Great, great entertainment! But NOT GOOD FOR YOUR BRAND!

Jon

Walt 5:44 says: "LIBS haven't done so hot if you may recall."

I DO recall the last General election Walt, very, very well. Was online with my friend in Ohio laughing at the pundits giving it to Mittens.
Not sure about LIBS or your definition, but Dems did pretty well as I recall, easy Presidency, big Senate gains and House gains. So yeah, I remember the last General election.

Paul Emery

I rank this right up with Santorum questioning the Popes wisdom as contenders for this years Election Follies award,

Donald trump had to hire actors at $50 a day to populate his Presidential announcement event. Here's the scoop.

"We are looking to cast people for the event to wear t-shirts and carry signs and help cheer him in support of his announcement," reads the June 12 email, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. "We understand this is not a traditional 'background job,' but we believe acting comes in all forms and this is inclusive of that school of thought."

Full email here: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/donald-trump-campaign-offered-actors-803161

The story, complete with his denial is all over the news.

Paul Emery

Jon was already on it. Can't keep a good story down.

Jon

Paul, Tis true, as most nights I was flipping between Maddow (on SiriusXM) and KVMR, but that segment about Trump handing out $50 bills to local actors was one of the funnier things ever.

George Rebane

PaulE 735pm - Amazing. Maybe he can continue the ruse and get elected by paying $50 a vote for him. Democrats get us to pay a lot more per vote and it works for them.

Walt

Again,, the LIB mind at work. Get your butt handed to ya' and claim victory.

So Your one of the ten that listen to madcow.
So what if he did? ( paid actors) (which I really doubt,, LIBD DO make shit up)
LIBS have been doing that for years. And you got the brass ones to bitch about Trump?
LOL!!
Funny how LIBS have to dig up graves to win elections, get felons to vote, then keep finding "lost" ballot boxes till the count goes their way. Hell! Now that motor voter is up and running, and illegals can get driver's licenses, let the new games begin! By any means necessary.Right "jon"? Playing by the rules is for the other team.

Jon

Paul, speaking of the Pope...tomorrow is the big day for his major pronouncement in regard to capitalism and mother earth.
Believe me, THAT story is not going to be kept down- and will be a campaign issue in 2016. Even JEB! is hedging his position on AGW today as you may have seen, in anticipation of the big story tomorrow.

Walt

Speaking of staged crap, look no further than Hillary. But hold Trump to a higher standard.
Yup, that Monsanto GMO dope is in the bong again.

Account Deleted

Yes, jon - I'm sure the wealthiest contractors can eat the loss. What about the less well off? Once again, we see that the left encourages the wealthiest to get even richer and the marginal workers get screwed. Then the left brings up the wealth imbalance and complains. And the middle class home owners end up paying for it. I thought Bernie was for the middle class? More leftie lunacy.

Account Deleted

"Paul, speaking of the Pope...tomorrow is the big day for his major pronouncement in regard to capitalism and mother earth."
And the folks that screeched the loudest about how we should separate religion and politics will be all ears for the new pope.
It really is true. If the left didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards.

Walt

Ahhh.. The Lefty double standard has been on display all day. Why stop now?

Walt

For the love of GOD and all things Holy,! PLEASE don't let it be Hillary... OR Pelosi... OR Boxer.
"In a surprise move, the Treasury Department announced it will replace Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill with a woman."
http://dailycaller.com/2015/06/17/alexander-hamilton-will-be-replaced-by-a-woman-on-the-10-bill-video/

OK,, so just who will the Black woman be? You know it WILL be.

Patricia Smith

George, 6:17 what more proof do you need? You don't like the story so it doesn't count? What kind of standard is that?

I still think you are twisting what I said. PRIVATELY owned prisons get contracts from major corporations - including Starbucks and Victoria's Secret - to produce goods for next to nothing. WHow much are they making off this slave labor and do you see the savings passed on to the consumer? I think not.

Maybe you'll like this link better - it blames Obama for the privatized prison system:
