Before anybody gets too excited about the New Hampshire results, remember this: Only two Republicans (Reagan, Bush the First) and one Democrat (Carter) have won the primary and then been elected president since 1976.

Russ Steele

The State of Jefferson make the New York Daily News. Details HERE: http://interactive.nydailynews.com/2016/02/state-of-jefferson-secessionists-california-gun-totin-rebels/

This not going to please our local lefty bloggers.

George Rebane

re GeorgeB 1005am - Agree with the stats, but that's not what the 'NH excitement' is about. The results there will impact who decides to go forward with their campaign and who will now pack it in.

Bill Tozer

New Hampshire? Forget the history. I bet 25% of the Dems will vote for any Republican they want their guy/gal to run against in Nov. 20% of Dems already said they will not vote last month, but now might do the anti-vote thang. Time to take a break for a month, unless it's about my gal and her wild geriatric herd of 68 something unleased feminazis. They love my gal.
I predict that Bill Clinton will start blowing his cork and be hospitalized briefly by April for rest. Ah, the fangs and claws are coming out. Only Trump seems to be having a ball. Let me knows who wins and how the independents break.
On to Obamacare and other important stuff.

Gregory

Please note the central distortion of healthcare in the USA, that the only way to buy healthcare with before tax dollars is to have your employer buy it for you, remaines unscathed after 7 years of brand-spanking new distortions of the healthcare industry making everything worse.

So, a 1940's error by the Congress remains... gold plated insurance from your employer is free from state and federal income taxes. Lousy insurance from your employer is also free from income taxes. It seems to me the only way out besides British style National Healthcare is to begin taxing what were once called "fringe benefits" and adjusting the tax tables to be revenue neutral.

On to a more local issue... it was reported on CapRadio this morning that California's largest recycling company has gone bust, taking with it most of the recycling centers in Nevada County. Not a peep from Scoopy or the Tea Party Gazette. The only west county location to accept recycling or buy back aluminum or glass beverage containers would seem to be the Waste Management operation at the McC transfer station.

Gregory

The excitement about New Hampshire is that it's real votes, not a pollster's questionnaire. The media has been forging a Fantasy Election for many months and getting folks whipped into a frenzy over their results... now it's reality. The race is on and here comes Pride up the back stretch. Heartaches are going to the inside...

Do we have a new illness... Marcolepsy? The robotic repetition of the same short speech over and over when the campaigner's eyes glaze over or are caught in the glare of the lights.

Bill Tozer

Gregory, Senator Rubotio would not like your last sentence. Rubot might be a new phrase in the American diction.. :). Wasn't the last R debate on or around Ground Hog Day? Astrologer saying The Bern will burn out by August when his moon leaves Mars and enters Aquarius of some other consellation. Interesting times.
Darn, it's only early Febuary. Tried and true conventional wisdom that holds water says it's way too early to make predictions. Screw that, this time it will different...

Well, our favorite sleazebag Hillary made it very clear this afternoon at multiple NH stops, all on video. She and her team will continue "working hard (for her victory) until all the votes have been cast and counted." That woman is unabashed about which stages of the election she and her team intend to influence tonight. Sounds like good ol' Tammany Hall politics to me.

We ALL know strange things happen in the dead of night when ballot boxes are in play.
Hillary has her body exhumers digging in frozen grave yards as we speak.
"Look HERE!! a 'lost' ballot box, full of votes for Hillary!"
OR,, More votes cast than there are voters.

OH... Hillary camp just said," We lost because the state is too white".

 Gregory

Congrats to the really big winners in NH... Sanders who thoroughly spanked Clinton, and Kasich, the only sitting governor besides the fading Christie who vaulted over Cruz and Rubio to the #2 spot.

 Gregory

After hearing his Noo Hampsha victory speech, I have to say Bernie is the new Barry Goldwater...
Moderation in providing free stuff is no virtue, Extremism in taking from Peter to buy Paul's support is no vice.

Bill Tozer

Is it over yet? How did my gal do? Bet she is up past her bedtime. Hate to wake up to her in the morning. Talk about a vulture on the headboard. Boy, I bet Bernie is having as much fun as Trump. Guest commenter at WTUT posted this story about the EPA seeking to ban the freedom of individuals within the USA to convert street cars into race cars.

Anthony writes:

Another example of government abuse of power, the EPA is seeking to remove more freedoms from American citizens in the name of the environment, by prohibiting the act of converting street cars into race cars. The sheer ridiculousness of this move to can be measured by how little of an impact it will have on the environment, given how little the number of cars converted into racecars per year.

When we were growing up in Nevada County, long before we had a drivers license my two brother bought cars stored in garages since WWII, put up on blocks to support the war and not have to fight for rationed gas cupons. They modified those cars and raced them around logging road with Jerry Purcell and his little brother Ernie Purcell. Ernie went on to become a racing champion and for a time the Fair Grounds race track was names in his honor.

What my brothers learned modifying cars became the educational base for careers in modifying, repairing and creating unique transportation systems. They are innovators based on the skills they learned modifying cars. EPA banning the modification of vehicles will hinder modern innovators in creating future transportation innovations.

 Gregory

Yes, the Democratic Party does believe that while every person is equal, some persons are more equal than others. Bernie is getting 60% of the votes but only 50% of the delegates.

Sweet deal for the Madam.

 Gregory

Governor Christie is taking a deep breath and going home to think... so is Peyton Manning.

Walt

See all those people who didn't study Socialism in school?( I swear they were chanting "sieg Heil"!) Man that Sanders can talk a good BS game.
In contrast, Trump won with the "educated" vote. " Well, Tuesday night in New Hampshire, our Establishment Betters were once again exposed as useless elites who have lost compete touch with their own voters. Trump not only won the Granite State by a wide margin, according to exit polls, Trump won the votes of every education demographic, including those with college and post-graduate degrees."
(in my own opinion) Not the type of person that would demand free education, or piss and moan and demand their student loan get forgiven.

Bill Tozer

Is Christie going to Disneyland first? Or is he just gonna drink a lot of Budweiser and skip the Magic Kingdom? Peyton can drink beer, go to Disneyland, and go home to think. All in a good day's work. Christie is out of mula. Payton isn't. :)

Don Bessee

I think Peyton has a much brighter future. It was nice he got his 4 mill in bonuses to replace the cash he gave up to get a better team, that bet paid off big. He has 30 papa johns and I think he may get some more for kissing papa john. Ever the strategic thinker he also did no harm to his bank by pushing bud and bud light since he is a distributor in Baton Rouge or somewhere there about. Not bad for a an old white guy who could probably qualify for disability now!

Bill Tozer

Peyton showed you don't have to win pretty, just win. No offense, just a good disciplined executive at the helm. Changed with the new team plan, the game plan, the times. My gal is fighting for us, which is a good thing. People want a fighter, but unfortunately for my gal, people prefer winning more than mere fighting. Gotta grow or go. Change is the only constant in life.

Now the piling on is starting, but Hillary will be fighting back. As of tomorrow, discouraged Bill and Hillary supporters will be receiving big red reset buttons in the mail. That should work wonders.

The EPA and the NSA are both rogue organizations. While I don't condone VW's diesel testing solution, the really onerous restrictions on NOx emmissions that held up sales of TDI and other diesels were based not on economics or public health... the TDI's contribution to pollution is virtually nil compared to past diesels, both passenger and large truck that remain legal to operate.

It helps to speak German, but even monolinguals will catch the drift

1. Guy with politically undesirable name sez: Donald Trump, you always have the best crowds.
2. Trump (or some staff member) likes the post (who wouldn't?) and resends it.
3. Trump notices the evil name (or some staff member does) and deletes post.

Well, I'm outraged.

I hope they checked the White House crawlspaces after Carter left office.

or, now that I think about it.....

4. The evil post to Trump's account goes down the memory hole because of the new 'Twitter Trust and Safety Council', who don't like the name of the twitterer either.

I doubt this since I expect that Twitter will be an active participant in any anti-Trump political movements, but you never know what some Indian IT sweatshop will get up to.

The strong political tendencies of the management of large social media companies really does throw an interesting twist into all of this. The ability to gin up an outraged mob will increase over time.

Yet another of the FUE's petty criticisms of The Union, titled, "Only two people respond to The Union publisher’s editorial page challenge," was posted about 10:00 PM on Thursday, February 11, 2016 and is an example of the FUE's ignorance, agenda, and hypocrisy.

The first sentence begins, "Western Nevada County has about 60,000 residents, yet only two (0.00003333333) responded to Publisher Jim Hemig’s editorial page challenge..." The number in parentheses is very curious. Without units one has to deduce its intended purpose. From context, it would appear that the FUE intended to express the percentage of residents who responded but this number is, instead, the ratio of the numbers two and 60,000. What is more, this number violates the principles of accuracy and precision. The ratio of values with one significant digit should be expressed with only one significant digit. The number should have been given as "(0.003%)".

The FUE then points out that one of the two respondents was Jo Ann Rebane, which is interesting and relevant, but goes on to point out that her husband is George Rebane which is in no way relevant. In the course of this irrelevancy the FUE manages to first correctly and then incorrectly spell Jo Ann's name in consecutive sentences

The other respondent goes unnamed which I feel is probably because that person's identity provided no opportunity to point out that his or her spouse is a "hard-right political activist and blogger."

After quoting Jim Henig the FUE sets out to correct Henig with a sentence that is syntactically incorrect. It begins, "No Jim..." but should have begun "No, Jim..."

I don't think that the FUE is ever going to get that failing to live up to the standards to which he holds others is hypocritical and unbecoming of the veteran editor and award-winning journalist that he so frequently reminds others of being.

Of the 16,000 words uttered by Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and moderators Gwen Ifil and Judy Woodruff, not one of them concerned Clinton’s deepening email scandal. Not one mention of the words email, e-mail, private server or FBI.

Not a single media question or opponent mention of the huge legal cloud hanging over the party’s presumptive nominee. Nor of the ongoing FBI investigation into unauthorized use of her unsecured private email server for government business, including loose handling of Top Secret documents endangering national security intelligence-gathering and covert operations.

Not any reference to the State Department Inspector General’s subpoena to the Clinton Foundation exploring possible connections between foreign government donations possibly trying to curry favor during Clinton’s four-year tenure as Obama’s secretary of State.

Oh, and not a single word either about Benghazi, the murder of four Americans there, the phony video excuse, the lack of rescue or reinforcement attempts and any Clinton responsibility for the well-documented poor consulate security. Nothing on tax or entitlement reforms. National debt.

A complete pass for Hillary Clinton. Whoosh! Home free. Other than that, it was a serious grilling about being female, admiring Obama, taxing the rich more, free stuff and other liberal issues.

It’s as if Judy Woodruff, Gwen Ifill, and PBS were just trying to help the Democrats or something.

Pelline is always urging KVMR and The Union to apply the same standards to their opinion features as The New York Times to improve the quality of their offerings.

What he doesn't bother to mention is that the Times has 19 full-time employees on its editorial board, who devote their time to the editorials, columns and opinion pieces that appear in the paper. The Union has just 11 full-time editorial employees while KVMR has a lot of volunteers.

It's like I'm on vacation and sleeping in 3 hours later than usual!

Maine Required Childless Adults to Work to Get Food Stamps. Here’s What Happened.

In the first three months after Maine’s work policy went into effect, its caseload of able-bodied adults without dependents plummeted by 80 percent, falling from 13,332 recipients in Dec. 2014 to 2,678 in March 2015.

Think Gov Brown would do that in California? Not likely!

Paul Emery

I say go Trump and go Bernie. My dream of a populist revolt is coming true. Anything but the establishment is good for me. Still sticking with Gary Johnson at this time.

Don Bessee

RIP Justice Antonin Scalia. Now were are really screwed.

Nahh! We were screwed when Bushes "Yes Man" (Roberts) was appointed.

I think that after that it didn't matter so much.

"O" will appoint the most Marxist judge he can find.
A sad day for the 2ND Amendment. we have been one supreme court vote away from losing it for a LONG time.

Walt

His body isn't even cold yet, and LIBS are demanding an appointment by "O"

Todd Juvinall

The Senate could delay a replacement until next year. Maybe O will appoint a guy like Roberts who turns around and screws them.

Bill Tozer

How about my gal for the Court? She could lose in November and still will have time to be appointed to the Highest Court by early January. Heck, she already has a closet full of black pant suit robe thangs..

Now, who is going to get Ruth drunk to make it through an Obama speech? Changing times, bro. He was definitely my favorite dago. A good man with a good mind and a wicked sense of humor.

Don Bessee

Good for McConnell coming out and saying flatly that 0 will not be making this appointment. Thanks to God we have the Senate.

jon smith

Hillary in black thongs? Not a pretty picture.

Blocking an O appointment could backfire. At least the right would have some say. When president Sanders or Clinton and a dem senate come to pass, Justice Obama may become your worst nightmare.

Don Bessee

You so funny.

"Justice Obama may become your worst nightmare."
In what backwater? Some county in rural Mississippi?
Obama wouldn't last 5 minutes in a hearing for SCJ.
Sorry - he's clever but has no intellect.

Jon

Best of luck blocking the next Supreme..:) I wish all you boys well.

is there a single good thing that can be said about Scalia in his obit?.......OK, OK, got one. He didn't hit as many people with his errant shotgun blasts as Dick Cheney. A better shot than Dick.

Bill Tozer

Nah, the Super Court is too low. Like Babe Ruth telling the Prez he is popular enough to be the President, but didn't want to take the pay cut.

Obama always had his sights on being ruler of the UN or Earth or something that involves a higher calling. His current job is too boring anyway. Besides, now that Michelle got a taste of all those vacations and rubbing elbows with the rich and famous, well....well, poor Barry has to keep her in the lifestyle she is accustomed to. No Justice Obama. Nix that.

Boy Jon, you sound bitter and I see you are in a foul mood. Ok, fair enough, you' have no respect for the deceased. Here, this might cheer out up.. How's life on the plantation?

Typical of the left to make foul statements about the dead. Scalia and his kind are the reason Jon can make the sort of public statements he does and not fear the govt hauling him off to prison.
The R's had better dig in and make sure the next justice is someone who understands the role and limit of government.

Don Bessee

Yo, the 'jon' go toss a salad you disrespectful ____________ (insert your own epithet folks). ;-)
