[13jul16 - This commentary sans update also appeared in the op-ed pages of today's Union.]
George Rebane
Well good for her, she has the courage of her convictions and the determination to represent her constituency – the people who voted for her. While I take great exception to Reinette Senum’s grossly uninformed assertion that the nation’s police “have obviously been given directives to go out there and kill. It’s insane and it’s meant to create mayhem”. Holding that belief and stating it publicly should not be grounds for requiring an elected public official to resign. It may be one of the few honest statements politicians have made in this election season about what they believe.
I have known Reinette for years and have enjoyed working with her on panels and local media broadcasts. We have broken bread together and taken the time to trade views and ideas. While as a conservetarian I don’t fly in tight formation with her politics and many of her public policies, I do respect her as a strong and energetic voice for a significant and perhaps dominant constituency of Nevada City neighbors who have visibly celebrated her many works in the community. Today she again represents these people in city government.
Since we have not heard an outcry from Ms Senum’s constituents asking for her resignation or demanding her recall because she misrepresented herself to them, we can reasonably presume that her stated sentiments also represent those who voted for her. The only voices that should matter in this affair should be those of Reinette’s constituents. In America it is not a crime for one cohort of citizens to hold views, whether or not politically correct, that disagree with those of others even if they are the majority. In our land diverse and minority viewpoints should also be heard, and they should also be represented in public offices as the laws allow. Hang in there Reinette.
[13jul16 update] Ms Senum made an additional statement reported in the 11jul16 Union where she is quoted on the front page regarding her controversial Facebook post. From the Union article –
“It’s a conversation that is overdue,” she told The Union Sunday. “Obviously I hit a sore spot. But it’s a conversation that needs to happen,” adding the whole thing is a concealed political attack from a local group who tries to damage her reputation. “We will be dealing with them shortly, this is much deeper than what it seems,” she said.
The obvious question on every reader’s mind – Which local group is it whose members will be dealt with shortly? And who are the “we” surrounding Ms Senum that will be doing what kind of “dealing”?
A correspondent brought this little item to my attention, and I was unable to answer these questions. Can anyone help?
[14jul16 update] Last night at a special meeting called to address council member Reinette Senum’s above reported remarks, the City Council of Nevada City unanimously passed a resolution in support of the Nevada City Police Department and the nation’s police departments. I thank NC Administrative Supervisor Ms Corey Shaver for sending me a pre-release copy of the passed resolution that has yet to be numbered and fully signed before its official release and posting on the city’s website. Readers can Download NCresolution_13jul16 .
[18jul16 update] George Boardman, Union columnist and RR commenter, wrote an excellent article in today’s (18jul16) Union that fills some holes in the community’s awareness of Mr Senum’s deeper ideological recesses and views of the world. Most of us have been unaware of the lady’s extensive writings and strong opinions found on her FB page which Mr Boardman has researched and presented to us. From my reading of the piece, the quoted bagatelles are not just gratuitous pickings to pique our ire, but instead represent a germane development of Ms Senum’s attitudes along with some fundamental tenets of her belief system. In this they are a positive contribution to the community’s ongoing discussion of a complex and multi-faceted issue that cannot and should not be dismissed with one of the several pithy ten-second soundbites now making the rounds. The Reinette Senum Affair may yet serve as a productive teaching episode for our community.
Her odd comment to the press after the meeting sounds like she was going to see how it played on the news. If that was the case the handwriting is on the wall. Then again her ego could drag the city down a rough road until she can be recalled.
News at 11.

ToddJ 1044pm - Good question Todd. Does anyone know whether any of the testimonials at the meeting included people who claimed they had voted for her and now wanted her recalled or to resign?

Nevada City was the lead on 3 and abc at 11 followed the Senum story with a Stockton story about the community honoring the local LE with a special free lunch and other thank you's after Dallas, quite the juxtaposition.
What's the per capita crime rate in NC v Stockton?
Posted by: Don Bessee | 13 July 2016 at 11:25 PM
Did they put the flag at half mast for the next 5 days? Wasn't that in the Proclaimnation to smooth things over with every newspaper and law enforcement agency in Texas? Well, not Houston. Houston welcomed all those poor folk from the bayou in after Katrina and saw their crime rate soar...a mistake that Houston will never make again, albeit the town is now trash. Houston don't count.p, but I digress.
. Ok, did they make it right with the Texas Rangers? With every LE from Vermont (the NRA rated #2 best state in the nation)...er, from Maine to The Keyes, from the amber waves of grain to the Redwoods of California. Did everybody sign the piece of parchment? Or, will this drama continue?
I missed everything tonight as one of the pool boys in the basement got sick. Told myself to refrigerate that raw meat that had been laying on the counter for a few days, but no. Now I got a sick on down there pissing all his bodily fluids out his rear end. Just like a Yelp review, but I digress.
What did I miss? Will the pitch folks be up back in the barn and the torches be extinguished? Will the lynch mob grab a rope? Will the villagers start lining up on different sides of the issue and then have a good old fashioned rumble? No guns, just chains and bats and tire irons, but No Guns. It's soooo Nevada City. I just can't wait for an update!!!

Good morning. All is well that ends well. Nevada City got its town back, the crowds have gone back home, and all is well in Mudville. Now, can we put a fork in this non event?
Yo, Dr. Rebane, you did a great job of sandbagging, you poker face wily one you. You held back that ace up your sleeve and didn't say a peep until it was time to to turn off the lights and head on home. You waited till the last second to drop that Ace of Spades, then raked in all the chips, and said "see you boys later."
You could of saved everybody a lot of wasted time and energy from the get go and dropped the Ace after the first hand was dealt.
That Ace was and is the trump card that reads, "the city council CANNOT force her to resign". Geeze, Doc, you never let that cat out of the bag. If I would have known what you knew, folks would be calling me Doc as well. Good job sir.
The morning after whispers say those who told RS to go pound sand at City Hall last evening where NOT citizens of Quaintytown. An astute review of the chamber's video cross referenced to the videos in the data bank reveal beyond a shadow of doubt that those ramble rousers were actors from the Secret Government acting school in Arizona. I knew it, I just knew it.

According to her own words, Reinette was "instrumental in opening much needed dialogue." I get the impression that she not only stands by her vile words but thinks that most people view her in a positive light. So friggin' typical of Reinette. As a past council member said, "Where the world sees a moon, she sees a UFO."

Here's something I found at Pelline's, posted by former Ruminant Joe Koyote (JoKe), a sock puppet known to be an instructor at Sierra College.
Koyote (anyone remember who he really is?) was pretty much right when he characterized Senum's comment as a conspiracy theory, but his putting everyone who doesn't buy into the IPCC brand of climate science into the same category is incredible. Progressives have a hard time relating to those who live off their reservation.
No, JoKe, "climate denial" isn't about conspiracies, just really bad groupthink science driven by government funding more interested in forecasts of doom than getting the science right. It will be "weather", but the crashing of atmospheric temps by the la nina following the now collapsed El Nino may well shock some on the fence into the skeptic camp before the election.
Looks like Trump's staking out the Law and Order corner may already be paying dividends.
Koyote also misses the forest for the trees regarding the stock of gun companies... if Democrats wouldn't greet every newsworthy killing (the media generally doesn't think young men killing each other in Chicago is news) with yet another call to ban ugly guns, people who like ugly guns won't react with buying one while they still can

http://www.theunion.com/news/22943313-113/our-view-impact-of-senums-words-extends-far
All I wanted was the word "inaccurate" to be in the mix. To RS's defenders who say she was right to point out the "bigger issue" and we need to start The Dialogue into this "national epidemic", may I respectfully point out that this conspiracy to murder black folks by cops was predicated by 2 (two) incidents well over a thousand miles apart from each other where lynch mobs convicted the two officers involved before the chalk even hit the pavement.
Inaccurate is the kindest word possible to describe this "national epidemic" of premeditated murder of innocent blacks by white police officers.

RS, I do see your larger point. I saw your point before you were even born. Our Founding Fathers say your point. Gobberment must be restrained.
Our current President's legacy will be recorded as a concerted effort to fan the flames of racial tensions. You are merely a pawn in the master plan, and you did Evil's bidding flawlessly.

Now that the 5 slain officers have been laid to rest, I can lay this story to rest. I will never ever until my dying breathe eat at any establishment that you are even remotely associated with.. I will instruct my lawyer to place a condition in my will that all inheritance my heirs and charities are to receive are predicated on the sole restriction that not one penny of it is ever to be spent on any endeavor on which RS is involved.
Rest in peace our fallen Heros.

No links for you, no pics to present. Just gut instinct:
For 3-4 days now, just two things have been going through my mind. Odd how things circulate around in my squirrel cage and when those things in there come to the surface.
2009, Obama's first instincts on race and cops showed his true colors. The Beer Summit. When the white cop in Cambridge caught the black Esteemed Professor trying to break into his own house because the good PHd locked himself out...in the dead of night....Obama's first reaction was distrust of the police and the good doc breaking into his back of own home that night was proof of racism and racist cops. Blame the cops first, ask questions later. An omen of more of the the exact reaction/behavior from the Oval Office to come.
Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Black theology. Not your theology, not mine. Black theology, nobody else can claim it....its for blacks and blacks only. No culture appropriation ! It's ours, not yours. Hands off, whities. "Goddamn....Goddamn America...Goddamn America...it says that right here" the man of God said pounding his finger on The Good Book.
Shades of BLM?? Insight to why Obama sat in the good Reverend's pews for 12 years, baptized his children, and was Obama's "spiritual mentor"? Shades of our President's worldview? Shades of a Nevada City taco peddler?
A Beer Summit will fix everything. Beam me up, Scottie.

Yo Fish!!!!, says little sad Billy T (speaking to a third poster in a very transparent manner via Fish).
Yo Mr. Fish. Just last night, just last night, I finally looked up the word "podunk". Word was populized in 71' in the moving picture show Da French Connection, so we can throw that in the Encyopedia of Worthless Information. Undeterred, my search continued. Guess I am too dense, but all those videos of musician's songs mentioning the word in question and definitions just left me searching....darn, I just want a definition. Is that too much to ask?
Then, in a moment of clarity, I went to where I should have gone first. I was looking for a definition even an ignorant beast such as I could comprehend. Straight to my beloved Urban Dictionary. That is where the millennials go first and foremost to search for definitions. Any, it was right there, front and center.
"A piece of shit redneck town."
PODUNK! I might even start using that word.

Whoa. Don't leave yet. Ok, before you start running around with your Hudson Sprayer tying to put out little hotspots, I got a bone for ya. 68? Nah, we are still missing the assination of a candidate. But, everything else is lining up. You be talking to a guy who loved the bumper sticker "You don't change Dicks in a middle of a screw so vote for Nixon in 72". I just love it when folks speak my native tongue. Ah, ya...Richard Milhouse Nixon in 72 won in a landslide. Law and Order man. The bumper sticker wasn't enough. Power to the people!!! 5, 6, 7, 8...Nixon ordered Watergate...
Thanks Dozer for the walk down memory lane. Jail to the Chief and all stuff.
Now, back to that delicate matter in Podunk, will ya? It will take more than a Benjamin to make this one go way.....show us some real green, tightwad.

Ok, let's take five. RS asked a great question. Who is to gain from a race war and why? Fair enough. Obviously we all know that LE has nothing to gain from this and they aren't the ones being told to put the hammer down on the black community,
. RS just needs to get pointed in another direction. She is correct there is something is happening right now and it is a damn conspiracy. She deserves the truth, guys. I will walk her just 3-4 steps down the path.
We are headed straight into a damn race war. The flames are being fanned fast and furious. Ask yourselves if you know any living person has seen worse race relations in their lifetimes than we see today.....over the last few years, months, weeks. When King got shot? King and the ensuing riots through 2-3 summers were limited to the urban ghettos and a summer thing. This is different, Don't feel the same.
Right now our President is going pedal to the metal throwing flames on the fire....and is picking up the pace faster each day, I don't know if the country can make it to Jan. Who is behind the Prez I dunno. The cop shooters are real, no conspiracy there. The man behind the curtain does not need to fire a shot, just yell fire in the theater and throw in some smoke and mirrors after the ground work has been laid. BLM are foot soldiers in this, and follow BLM straight back to the White House. After than you are on your own.
Why? A demoralized, demonized, despondent under assault under fire police force will not be able to contain rampant crime or hold their own, thus breaching the Thin Blue Line between civil society and anarchy . A breakdown. Martial law, Feds come in and take over America!s Police Force. Consolidation of power.
There is a war on police going down , but that is just a means to an end.
Behind the Thin Blue Line is an equally demoralized dispondent white class that has been beat on for 8 years, not in a resistance mood, seeking protection from the storm.
A loosely comparable example is Germany. Unleash 1,000s of rapists. If the victims or friends or local community leaders raise questions or even public expressions of outrage, call them Extreme Right Hardliners, Islamophobics, cite them for hate speech, or arrest them. Silence them is the goal. The victims are now the bad guys, the rapists victims of "intolerance." Tryanny waltzes in, Justice takes a walk..
Ok, back to the US; the cops must appear to lose their handle on social order, the civil libertarians are silenced (generalizations only, duh) and mayhem and unrest rise the temperature to dangerous levels. Keep stirring up the high tensions and pent up anger of the black community and the race war is hyped by the media and puppeteers until it appears like a race war is going down, out of control, and the troops are sent in.
RS, may I submit an ugly possibility? The ones you call evil may have clean hands, and the ones you may believe are the power for good may be the evil doers., hint, hint. Martial law in the guise of restoring social order. Just a means to the end. We are looking more and more like a banana republic every friggin week.
What was that tarmack shit with Bill and Loretta? No, that had nothing to do with race. What about Hillary, FBI, DOJ, Obama shredding the rule of law? ,Those are just some pieces of the puzzle. The puzzle is shaping up to look like a Bananna Republic...or new order. Who benefits throw that?? . It's not us righties that are The Enemy..
Who has the most to gain from a Bananna Republic, acquired by the piecemeal tearing out parts of the Constitution? Who has been pushing the hardest to throw gas on the fire in the black community. Who is sowing the seeds of discord? The cops? International corporations? Who has the most to gain from a grab for more power under the guise of a race war? Trump or Hillary or Obama or the man behind the curtain? None of the above??
I say you have been looking for love in all the wrong places
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 19 July 2016 at 01:49 AM
That is just one piece of many many many many moving pieces. My scenario is just what the naked eye can see, just one tactic in a strategy. Dr. Evil's master plan is not hidden. There are no single means to the end. It's been out there, published for years,
If you want to hide it from somebody, just put it a book. Most never look beyond the cover. Or maybe I am crazier than a cat trying to cover crap on a marble floor. Maybe we aren't any crazier, but we sure aren't any saner.
The founding fathers knew, by its very nature, government is inherently evil, but a neccessary evil. Constant viligence and dilengece to keep evil restrained. However, it is also a truism that discretion is the better part of valor.
