No statesman is in a position to indicate ten years in advance what he is going to do later; on the pathless fields of politics one cannot proceed by schedule like an engineer. Konrad Heiden (1944)
George Rebane
Labor Day is past and we are now in the pre-debate phase of the campaigns. Trump has indeed toned down his delivery, if not his message. He now sounds more composed, deliberate, and therefore presidential as he modifies his policies for the final run to November with the help of advisors, notes, and even the teleprompter. But no matter his tone, he continues to be the political maverick, as he must if he’s to have a snowball’s chance in hell for the Oval Office – his public demands it. And that public is growing according to polls, some of these now show him even or even ahead a point or two. I see the effects of retired general Mike Flynn on both his military policy and coordinating support from retired flags to counter Hillary’s chorus of the Obama-compliant officers. But we have yet to see the obvious marks of Christie and Gingrich, maybe they are currently tutoring his debate performance.
Meanwhile Hillary continues to pile lie upon lie while bolstering the ones that already underpin her character with the thinly-informed. Her email scandals do nothing but grow as the election approaches, and now we all await the October Surprise (or the “Ides of October” as one reader has dramatically labeled it). That she remains unindicted is a terrible sadness upon our republic, giving overwhelming evidence that our justice and judicial institutions suffer from a deep corruption.
[9sep16 update] It is beyond clear that Rupert Murdoch and his News Corp have an irritating hair up their private parts about this year’s presidential candidates. Both of their flagship properties – WSJ and Fox News – are doing an equal number on Hillary and Trump. What’s newsworthy is their constant attack on The Donald’s campaign. There they have adopted Hillary’s talking points and provide as much substantive backing to their slights as do the Democrats. FN in its “fair and balanced” manner sounds more like MSNBC by the day as it covers Trump’s campaign. The editorial stance of Paul Gigot and his team at the WSJ have long been vehemently anti-Trump. Both outlets oddly put off their consumers by frothing about what Trump might or might not do as president vs what Hillary has already demonstrated she can’t do added to the deplorable things she has already done.
As an example, I draw your attention to a recently typical WSJ editorial – ‘The Commander-in-Chief Choice’ - such as the one that leads today’s (9sep16) editorial page. After a relatively mild slap on Hillary’s wrist about her bad foreign policy decisions and impossibly unfunded domestic program proposals, the WSJ then devotes twice the real estate to taking down Trump.
For openers Trump “shows so little knowledge about the world that it’s impossible to know how he would react as he learns on the job.” That naked charge is presented without any supporting back-up. There is no evidence that the previous three presidents knew anything more about the world when they stepped into the Oval Office. And most certainly Hillary has demonstrated herself on the topic to be a slow learner beyond belief given her existential record as senator and SecState.
Next Trump is accused of “indulging his apparent Napoleon complex” re his knowledge of the Islamic State vs the generals. On the face of that claim 1) we know and can discount that as being campaign driven bombast as he has subsequently demonstrated, and 2) NO ONE inside the Beltway can claim to be an expert on ISIS given their record of dealing with ragheads and predicting their global influence. And Trump has been spot on when he called Obama’s recent fracturing the flag officer corps as having it “reduced to rubble.” If anything, rubble is a generous characterization of a military leadership that has quietly succumbed to feeding our troops piecemeal into a conflict conducted with no visible strategy for its resolution nor for building/sustaining a military that can stand up to the bad actors it has induced worldwide. The officers who could no longer accept such tragic incompetence (or worse) have simply left the service through resignations and/or early retirements. After years of this under Obama, how would you describe what remains in the Pentagon?
The Left and News Corp also continue to rag on Trump’s “secret plan” to defeat ISIS, and that he has not told everyone his plan. What he has said is that as President he will ask his generals to develop and present such a plan to him which he will consider and possibly revamp/integrate with his own approach. Given the continuing deadlocked failure in the Mideast, that certainly is the most reasonable thing any presidential candidate can and should say at this stage of the campaign. Only certifiable idiots spell out to the world and the enemy their intended means to defeat it months in advance of any such plan being put into effect. On the other side Hillary has stated that she would “never put our boots on the ground” again in the Mideast to defeat ISIS, thereby confirming she has no clue that we already had over 4,000 troops on the ground there with another 300 arriving this weekend. Now there’s an experienced CinC for you.
And as for Trump’s “weird admiration for Mr Putin” the WSJ attempts to prove this by Trump’s claim that Putin has “been a leader, far more than our president has been a leader” while acknowledging that happening in “a very different system, and I don’t happen to like the system”. Characterizing a stark comparison as “admiration” is about as insidious of a political slam as you would expect Hillary to make, yet it comes from a so-called conservative news outlet.
My message to Mr Rupert and his gang at FN and WSJ is to get over it. Donald Trump is the Republican nominee, and the only game in town that can prevent the next crooked and corrupt Clinton from accelerating the established downward spiral of our country as part and parcel of the “fundamental change” her former boss promised, has already delivered, and seeks to double down on before he leaves office. And now that The Donald is well into the ‘presidential phase’ of his campaign with improving poll numbers to boot, now is the time to support his candidacy instead of continuing to pile on load after load of ‘fair and balanced’ snark about what they imagine he may or not do when in office. We already know what the foul-mouthed, pay-for-play liar will do when she gets in.
I'm confused: Is the Pentagon supposed to deliver the plan for defeating ISIS before or after Trump fires the generals?
Tozer, I think your boy Johnson spent too much time consuming the evil weed, which would explain why he's never heard of Aleppo. They say pot will do that to you.

GeorgeB 258pm - Mr Boardman, perhaps your tongue is dug too deeply into your cheek (and then again, perhaps not). But would you let us rubes in on when Trump promised to 'fire the generals'. Most of us know that he did indicate that some pentagon flags may be shown the pasture, but nowhere did he promise to do what Obama has already done.
Readers unfamiliar with Obama's blood letting of the flag ranks during his tenure should familiarize themselves with what the lamestream has carefully overlooked during the last six years or so. Obama has filled the top flag ranks with a cadre of mostly compliant toadies who have gladly and without a peep unwritten the mess he has made of the mideast and the seas off China. It is these people that Trump was referring to in his recent statement about planning for the defeat of ISIS. The ones who planned and won the battles are long gone, but they are still available to advise Trump should he be elected.

I'll let you read the Washington Examiner's brave attempt to make sense of Trump's incoherent rambling about replacing generals. I particularly like the part about seeing if the generals can come up a plan that's better than his "secret" plan to defeat ISIS.
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/trump-vows-to-replace-generals/article/2601231
I doubt the generals working for Obama are any worse toadies than their predecessors. A life-long friend of my father who retired from the Army as a two-star general told me several times that you can make it to colonel on talent; after that, it's politics.
Posted by: George Boardman | 08 September 2016 at 04:19 PM
Boardman needs to brush up on what "O" has done with the top brass since he became Chief Doofus. Any General who dared tell it like it was, "fired". And Boardman wants to take shots at Trump?
My own Brother turned in is Eagles (that would be a full bird colonel, Boardman) because he couldn't deal with political crap anymore.

Ruh Roh, Pierce U/Boston Herald's latest poll say 35% of Hispanics and 24% of Blacks have a favorable view of DJT. That should give madam liar liar pantsuits on fire another coughing fit. ;-)
Posted by: Don Bessee | 08 September 2016 at 05:07 PM
I understand the bar for the Generals was a simple question by Obama's staff flunkies " Will you honor the Constitution or the Presidents orders" Those that answered, "The Constitution" were soon forced into retirement and those that resisted, were investigated and charge with malfeasance of command. The staff flunkies dug up all kinds of stuff, drank too much, was too familiar with a staff member in the past, was a spousal abuser, did not implement diversity as fast as desired, insulted the President, etc. It was easier to retire than risk losing retirement pay if they lost a review board challenge. Some of those "retired" Generals can be recalled to serve, some of the current General might find out they drink too much, former spousal abuser, too familiar with a staff member in the past, etc.

And your critical of how Trump will treat military leaders??
Posted by: Walt | 08 September 2016 at 06:28 PM
From my experience with the military and retired general officers with whom I served years ago, anyone who thinks this president's relationship with the military is anywhere close to the norm is either not paying attention or has no understanding of how the military operates as a constitutionally mandated institution of our government.
Posted by: George Rebane | 08 September 2016 at 08:25 PM
First and foremost, Trump is finally getting his message out. Finally.
Military? Our military is so politicalized it might as well be a branch of the State Department or DHS, or DOJ. We have an Air Force head that has never done squat and can't fly a plane I combat. We have a head of Navy that had never even commanded a barge. Our boys and girls in uniform have to smuggle a Bible under their belts to read one, Yep, many folks were imprisioned back in the Cold War smuggling The Good Book into Russia and Chna. Now our service personnel cannot pray on duty or reference God without reprisals.....unless it is the Religion of the Pedophile Prophet or the Holy Quran.
What country do we live in?
Go ahead and worry about Generals, Admirals, and Brass. I am more concerned in who will be their Commander-in-Chief. Priorities, you know.

Wasting defense dollars on global warming friendly fuels and failed solar farms while we are awash in energy, readiness down across all services. Yes indeed, 0 has transformed America.
Chinese, Philippines and so many others have no problem disin' 0 on his way out the door and while 0 says he is reviewing new sanctions on N korea for shooting off missiles during his visit to China they pop a nuke on his way out of his last Asia trip. Lets pray our military does not have to reap what 0 has sown. God Bless our Troops! :-(

I do have a Johnson, but he ain't into politics. What else did they teach ya at SF State? Opps, that was unfair. Didn't expect you to remember. Never mind.
Speaking of things military, watch out for those IEDs.

The Dems still have nothing to crow about. If they did, they would be running on their accomplishments 7 days a week. Hillary running on her achievements? Whose fault is it that one in six people between 18 and 54 don't have a job. All they can say is Trump is a Russian spy, Trump hates women, Trump is a supporter of the KKK, Trump is this or that. All the Dems have is protests in the NFL, lol. Keep the strife going, it might help Hillary. You can't make this stuff up.
Hillary, Obama said you were the most qualified person ever to run for President. Please run on those wonderful qualifications. Please. Opps, you can't.
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 09 September 2016 at 07:17 AM
Hillary Clinton failed the Washington DC bar exam and kept that failure a secret for three decades.
Most qualified person ever to run for President... a lawyer who can't practice law in Washington DC because they flunked the D.C. test. You can't make this stuff up.
Posted by: Gregory | 09 September 2016 at 12:13 PM
Gregory 1213pm - Not to worry about such trifles. There is no doubt in my mind she would pass the bar exam today with flying colors were she to give it another try.
Posted by: George Rebane | 09 September 2016 at 12:18 PM
That depends on what the meaning of "flying colors" is.
Posted by: Gregory | 09 September 2016 at 01:01 PM
Gregory 101pm - I use 'flying colors' in their formal bureaucratic sense meaning that the score she receives from the test-administering establishment would be in, say, the top 10%. However, her examination papers would not be available for inspection until about the year 2500.
Posted by: George Rebane | 09 September 2016 at 01:07 PM
Not a chance.
By the way, if President Hillary is awakened at 3AM by that phone call... what will she be able to remember?
Back at the beginning of the GOP primary process I picked my favorite pair... Kasich and Paul. I see it's come out that a couple weeks ago Kasich, upon seeing a Harry Potter book for sale at the bookstore hosting some event he was attending took it upon himself to rail against the actor who plays Potter in the movies because he was an atheist.
http://www.salon.com/2016/09/08/watch-john-kasichs-strange-remarks-chastising-daniel-radcliffe-for-being-an-atheist/
I take back all the nice things I've written about Kasich. Despite not being an atheist, I am overjoyed a bigot like him didn't make it out of the bush league in the primaries.

Gentlemen, Hillary was bearing her soul yesterday. Said that when she saw her father, a gruff Popeye the sailor man on his knees everynight, that left a deep impression on her. So much so that when she later saw women on their knees before another man at night, she upped and married him.

George, back at you... some real evidence that the lawyers running the bar exams have ever diluted their standards to zero as a political favor. It's likely Hill couldn't even sit long enough to take the exam, let alone remember a fraction of the knowledge she had 30 years earlier that wasn't enough at the time.
Please share.

Gregory 245pm - My evidence of lawyer-staffed corrupt bureaucracies in Wash DC abounds (or maybe overflows). Why would I consider "lawyers running bar exams" to be more ethical and uninfluenced than those running the DoJ or the FBI?? And requiring her to "sit long enough to take the exam"; come my good man, you must be joking. But I have to admit that your enduring faith in that crowd is heart-warming ;-)

George, you're playing the same game Paul Emery is... assume a rigged game without any evidence that game has ever been rigged.
I'm pretty sure lawyers involved in the bar exams are not unlike pilot examiners in aviation... they'll take your money for instruction but don't expect to pass the flight exam unless you really can fly to the standards demanded. They don't want you flying in their airspace unless you can meet the standards.
Incompetent lawyers make it harder for everyone to make a buck the old fashioned way... stealing it in accordance with all applicable laws.

Get out your reading glasses: "Julian Assange: Up to 100,000 pages of Clinton documents to come."
Assange said his organization released internal DNC documents just before the party's national convention because that was when staff finished vetting them, but that he hoped to have the newest documents out well before November.
"It's quite a complex business to sort things, to index them, make sure they're presentable, to see what the top initial angles are that come out," he said. "We're a small shop. We're here around the clock. We understand quite much the time pressures that people have, and how significant it is to try and get that out. We worked like hell to get the DNC publication out before the DNC, the day before the DNC."
"I am very confident we're going to get this material out before, long before, the day of the election," Assange said.
Assange said Tuesday that the first wave of Clinton documents would hit either this week or next week.

This may be a significant screw up by Clinton, who may only have awakened a sleeping dragon and filled it with a terrible resolve... given Trump has as much support as Clinton at the moment, she's essentially said half of his supporters are evil (a quarter of the electorate), and the other half are pitiful (another quarter of the electorate).
This may be a campaign gift that keeps on giving on into November. Send that money to Trump NOW, all you deplorables, because you ain't getting &*(R^ if Hill gets elected.

Mana from heaven. Heck, we still use bitter clingers or as Trekkies would say "Bitter Klingons" eight years after Obama uttered it. Something to do with guns and God.
Allow me to be a broken record: It is a fatal error to dis Trump supporters. Fatal mistake. We got his back and he has ours and nary the twain shall part. Romney had his 47%ers, Obama had his bitter clingers, and My Gal now has her infamous Deplorables. Golly, I be horn diddled. Us knuckledraggers are having our moment of fame. Hope it lasts for more than 15 minutes.
Got a sneaky suspicion this will be the gift that keeps on giving. "Did you hear what she said about Y-O-U? Shocking. Broad brush stuff, hate speech, reeking of intolerance and divisiveness! You haven't heard? Oh, let me tell ya what she said about Y-O-U."
Hillary must be stopped. The path the Obama/Clinton campaign is on is blueprint of a world wide EU, in case you were wondering. Or Agenda 21, or Marxism via the Satlin method. However you slice and dice it, it is the end of the ideals and laws that make up what Ametica is. They want to do away with everything America is, i.e., Guns, God, and Guts. Borders, Language, Culture. A constitutional republic no more. It will take years to undo just what Obama has wrought in the last 16 months and Hilary is beholden to continue. We stand at the crossroads. The stakes are the whole enchilada, the whole sheebang. This is crunch time and may/will be the only shot we ever will get again. There is no other time. Now or never. Taking is done. Darn the torpedos, full steam ahead.

Hillary will be the pres to preside over a skidding economy and will blame Bush and the press will uphold her version of history. She will also over-reach and cause a new gen of voters to reject anything that comes out of DC.
Weird times.
I'm noticing, lately, a complete lack of lefties on this blog.
Cat got their tongue?
Or maybe it's hard to post while scurrying away on all fours?

Hmm. Trump goes into a black church as gets a standing ovation. Trump goes to Phylis Schlafly's funeral and get a standing O. Mark Levine rails against Trump everyday for anything and everything Trump says that is not of true intellicetual conservative thoughts, but will vote for him. Bottom line: We conservatives already had our revolution....in 1776. We know what to do. There was no silver medal in 1776 and there is no silver medal in 2016. The stakes are the same. Defeat is not an option.

Sorry Toz, but 1776 was a true Liberal revolution.
Also, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Gregory, counting chickens? our struggle is a very steep uphill battle. We are the underdogs. We must not think we will can win, but we must think we will win against all odds, against all enemies, forgein and domestic. We must refuse to lose, as did the minority of Colonalists who actually fought in and joined the Revolutionary War. No taking anything for granted since we are a basket of Deplorables. Incorrigibles as well. Miles to go before we sleep, miles to go.
Of course, like General Washington's rag tag group of conscripts, The Ides of October would be welcomed, yet not expected. It would be nice to get by with a little help from our friends.

This is in keeping with an earlier comment I made about classic movies (classic in the sense that they're old, not classic in the sense that they're any good) being remade with predominately female casts.....last week it was Cheryl Mills and Hillary Clinton reposing the Morgan Freeman/Jessica Tandy duo in "Driving Miss Daisy".
Now....coming to a theater near you....Hillary Clinton stars in a remake of the light, feel good summer comedy "A Weekend at Bernies" where Hillary plays the Character of Bernie Lomax, and the the entire Secret Service play the roles made famous by Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman toting the deceased "Bernie" around attempting to convince the world that "He" is still alive!

Was that a blonde I saw diving head first into someone's lap in the backseat? This is too much fun. Another feed before it gets pulled from Yahoo. And it was a morning event! Just as I suspected. Like a vampire, she is allergic to the sun. Or, she is just an attention whore trying to distract from the 9/11 memorials. Afterall, she did say in Dec of last year that Islam had nothing to due with 9/11. And said recently nobody died in Libya, but I digress.
Roll the tape of the Blonde Bobblehead again.

Hillary "overheated"
The 10:30 AM the temperature was 79 degrees, with no wind, mostly cloudy. Highest temp mid day was 83 degrees with 3 mph wind. How did she get overheated?

My my. Just 2-3 days ago I read a scathing article from the Washington Post that this whole health issue is hogwash. They debunked everything, called it a Alt-Right conspiracy, and ridiculed the whole notion of My Gal's (who happens to be a dear friend of mine) health non-issue.
Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.

Again.....this is far and away the best election of my lifetime!
Here’s why.
If humans were rational creatures, the time and place of Clinton’s “overheating” wouldn’t matter at all. But when it comes to American psychology, there is no more powerful symbol of terrorism and fear than 9-11 . When a would-be Commander-in-Chief withers – literally – in front of our most emotional reminder of an attack on the homeland, we feel unsafe. And safety is our first priority.
Hillary Clinton just became unelectable.
The mainstream media might not interpret today’s events as a big deal. After all, it was only a little episode of overheating. And they will continue covering the play-by-play action until election day. But unless Trump actually does shoot someone on 5th Avenue, he’s running unopposed.

A little disturbed by his constant references to Americas obsession with "safety" but hey.....we have became the land of the precious snowflake so what do I know?!

All these allegations about Hillary's health problems should be resolved by public access to her medical records to rule out any serious medical disorder that can interfere with fulfilling the office of POTUS. To date a plausible case can be made that Hillary has advanced Parkinson's disease. An example of the evidence and related reasoning is presented by this physician in a YouTube presentation with detailed videos illustrating the arguments made.

Fabulous!

This basket full of Deplorables thang is catching on. Early this morning went I checked out some sites and there is an advertisement for Pround To Be Deplorable tee shirts all ready to roll. I did not like the color. Needed a touch of splash to pop out here and there. Too drab. Well, somebody has to be first I reckon. An entrepreneur.
As a pround member of the basket of the baddest of the bad things, I shall now go poison my neighbor's well. Later gator.

‘Trump praises Putin’, that meme is now ingrained in the vocabulary of the entire ideological spectrum of ‘journalists’, none of whom understand the difference between the notions of praising someone and assessing a characteristic of the individual. Trump has made it more than clear, yet the media drumbeat goes on. We can understand the lamestream Left’s hammering in that message, but what reveals most is the mental downsizing that has gone on in the conservative/libertarian ranks. Trump maintains that Putin is both a stronger and more effective leader than Obama. There is not a single reasonable measure anyone can put forward that would negate Trump’s assessment. In 1939 if you would have said that Hitler was a stronger and more effective leader than, say, Chamberlain, you would not have raised an eyebrow in Europe or America. And no one would have confused the expression of that tautology with praise for Hitler. Yet today dumbth rules. We have come a long way Virginia.
Posted by: George Rebane | 11 September 2016 at 06:07 PM
Astute observation. Trump would be pilloried if he said negatives about Putin since the leftstream media would say ha is interfering with the nations diplomacy. To me it really doesn't make a difference to except to the media. America could care less on average. Economy/Jobs. Foreign policy was never the everyday Americans forte'

Pretty much all of the anti-Trump message to the voters is fabricated BS. Classic 'big lie' technique.
Even our good pal Boardman showed up here with his bobble-head repetition of anti-Trump nonsense. When challenged to back up his assertions, he folded like a cheap tent and scurried off.
The latest anti-Trumperisms about The Donald supposedly admiring Putin are not the result of dumbth in any way. It is the typical way the left (and center, apparently) are attacking the R candidate.
It is quite fashionable amongst the self-elevated left pseudo-intellects to simply roll their eyes at anything Trump says and excuse their future vote for Hillary by exclaiming that: "well, they're all like that". Yes - all the ones you vote for.
Then they'll go back to complaining about the influence of 'big money' in politics and the influence of Wall Street on our nation's policies.
The fact that they knowingly voted for more of the same thing they constantly complain about is why I have no regard for the American left. Daily Kos is totally in the bag for her.
There are a few that will vote for legal pot or another idiot socialist, but it really boils down to a known liar and crook or a blow hard egotistic businessman.
Hillary just wants power and The Donald is actually going for a pay cut to try to bail out our country.
Freedom or free stuff - your call, America.

What I find fascinating about the left is their ability to broadcast that a successful business person, Meg, Carli, Romney, now Trump, are stupid and unfit. I chuckle at that but of course the great unwashed believe it. When George W. Bush was relentlessly attacked as stupid and later it showed his grades were better than Gore and Kerry, I knew the left was desperate. And I thought, how can a man like Bush, so stupid the left says, beat their smart guy? I would like to see any of those leftwingnuts design a kitchen.

The only thing Hillary has going for her is the D after her name. That's her whole ball of wax after decades in the public eye. Her handlers want America to see the good side of Hillary. After 50 years, it's a bit too late to don warm, funny, and personable on demand. You can't transmit what you don't have. Just a D before or after her name is all she needs in 2016. If she needs anything else to win, she is out of luck.
I never believed the allergy story myself. Although I have never been prone to allergies, I have been well acquainted with those that are. They all have red watery cloudy eyes, look like they feel like crap, and are a bit swollen about the countenance. But Hillary's "allergies" were just a cough. Something didn't add up.
But pneumonia is a different story. Had it twice In the last 20 years. Wipes you out, dry persistent harsh cough, fainting, light headed, and leaves you so drained physically that even thinking about getting up and doing something like cooking is a Herculean task requiring much effort. She needs 3 weeks in bed with complete rest at her age. A week minimum without getting up. Wonder how her Dr. got the chest X-Ray machine up Chelsea's stairs or over to the New York hideout without anyone seeing the machine needed to make an accurate diagnosis. Odd. I did see what looked like the mysterious non-Secret Service black man in the group that carried her sorry ass into the SUV. They should call him Dr. Feelgood. She was feeling no pain an hour later, pneumonia or no pneumonia. The mysterious black man to the resue with his Grandma's Little Helper injection pen at the ready. Gawd, I hate dopers.

Hillary is in the moderate stage of Parkinson's.
Here is a YouTube interview with a doctor who claims that Hillary has Parkinson's. He has a checklist of visible symptoms, which the interviewer discusses at length. We have all seen these symptoms and now we can be alert to them in the future.

New Moan-ia? And the Clinton crowd kept saying she was fine and the health talk on Drudge was just a nasty rumour.
It turns out to be another Clinton lie.
Go ahead and vote for her, America.
One lie after another.

Funny how the media is demanding records from Trump. We have yet to even see "O"'s records... On ANYTHING! Still locked up tighter than a butthole in a prison shower. LIB media has given Hillary a pass, just token pleas to make it look good.
As for Trump's records,, he should tell the go to "F" themselves. " You want mine? Get Husain's and the should be felon's first.."
