George Rebane
[This is the addended transcript of my regular KVMR commentary broadcast on 8 February 2017.]
A lot has happened on both sides of the aisle in the last couple of weeks. President Trump is off to a determined if not bumpy start to deliver on his campaign promises, and the Democrats …? Well, they’re off to an even bumpier start which raises the real question – where are they going? No one seems to know. Their only objective is to don the ‘Party of No’ mantle and protest everything until the cows come home. As a political party, don’t you have to do a bit more than that to have a hope in the 2018 elections; don’t you have to tell the voters what objectives you want to achieve other than throw sand in the gears of the Trump administration?
Right off the top the Democrats have no top, no next generation leaders with ideas that make sense to a country which their old and existing leaders have managed to put into what feels like permanent doldrums cranking along with a screwed up foreign policy, and with even worse domestic policies. They don’t seem to remember why they lost the last election, starting with the presidency and plunging wholesale into the states and counties. It is clear that people wanted something different, something that might have a chance of working besides a rehash of the same ol’ same ol’ by the same old crew.
But these days our globalist neighbors have brought about new rules to control us. Today we are told to accept newcomers from strange lands who establish themselves among us in insular communities that by law we then have to respect and support. It is we Americans who must in our own land adapt to the stranger, and change our lifestyles so as not to somehow violate the newcomers’ sensitivities – even unto not displaying our flag, not wearing the visible symbols of our faith and fathers, and forego celebrating our history in the public forum as we have done for generations.
This is what the politically corrupt Democrat Party has established in our land in the eyes of at least half of those who still proudly call themselves Americans. Is that the implied platform of our political Left? Is it on that basis that they hope to convert or coerce the rest of us? Hopefully, this will not work, for there are too many of us on both sides who will resist to the point of an eventual break-up as the Left today demonstrates with their Calexit.
Europeans have taught their immigrants and now migrants to become irredeemably aggressive, and to make outlandish demands on their host cultures. And we Americans are publicly bludgeoned on moral and humanitarian grounds, stretched beyond recognition, to emulate the mistakes that Europe acknowledges, and for which it can find no remedy save belatedly building fences to stem the hordes of unvetted migrants. In our streets today Democrats carry signs demanding that we ‘Open Our Borders’ and ‘Welcome All Who Want to Come’. The Democratic leadership maintains a public silence as their surreptitiously directed, augmented, and funded base continues to alienate more and more Americans in the middle.
Until Democrats come up with a viable leadership and platform for their future, the rest of us should let them go on digging their hole, while making sure that in the hysteria we don’t follow Europe’s footsteps as counseled daily by current Democrat elites.
My name is Rebane, and I also expand on this and related themes on Rebane’s Ruminations where the addended transcript of this commentary is posted with relevant links, and where such issues are debated extensively. However my views are not necessarily shared by KVMR. Thank you for listening.
[Addendum] Locally the Democrat desperation matches if not exceeds its national froth; after all we live in the nascent Socialist State of California. A land where the overwhelming majority believes or at least dutifully accepts that more and bigger government is better, and that human enterprise is not affected by such esoteria as tax rates and ever burgeoning regulations. Whatever they can do, we can do better.
The national "sharp left turn by the Democrat Party" (here) is illuminated locally by auto-incandescent moral lighthouses like Ms Hilary Hodge and sharp intellects like Mr George Boardman, regular columnists of our beloved Union which has now declared its leftward lean, a tilt that was already apparent to discerning readers. For a semblance of balance the newspaper’s editorial board does harbor a conservative or two whose voices in print draw howls of repudiation and demands from the Left that they be forthwith silenced for their manifold heresies. Mr Norm Sauer’s recent column (here) juxtaposed with Ms Hodge’s contribution (here) illustrates this situation.
For the last ten years RR has served in the introduction of ideas, notions, and concepts about which our light-reading local Left has been ignorant. To make clear their limited purview of what is out there, they have for years reliably and predictably accused me of originating and harboring these heresies as a lone wolf up here in the hills, even when the citations and links I provided have inevitably made them out to be the sheltered fools in these parts. Such exposures always draw a response from their cricket corps, which, after a spell, they return to once more accuse me of the very same ‘infractions’ when next they are exposed to something 'new'. I remind my readers of this because they currently are shielded from the latest climate change hysteria dupings (here), and, germane to points raised in my above commentary, to other conservative voices which join my longtime proposition that ‘The United States cannot Survive as Presently Constituted’.
None of this revelation is intended to dissuade our leftwingers from contending the ideas that I and mine (e.g. as cited) have put forth. By all means, marshal your resources and have at them.
[10feb17 update] Well, the acid test of whether America in the aggregate is as butt stupid as the indivisible leftwing protesters, rioters, and disrupters make us out to be will be decided sooner than later. It is beyond my comprehension as to what their leading lights think they will accomplish by shouting down Republican MoCs in their public meetings, denying the new SecEd entrance to a school, …, and generating more fake news stories per hour than there is media time to disseminate them. The most prominent of the latter being that President Trump has initiated a Muslim ban on immigrants making a religious test into a prerequisite for entering the country.
These people are very well funded and now have published a how to disrupt instructions as they organize their grassroots core. Here’s a first in the memory of all of us who have been following American politics since the Eisenhower days – an actual manual published for the country to oppose its duly elected president – ‘Indivisible: A practical guide for resisting the Trump agenda’. In there you can read instructions on how to repeat what Congressman Tom McClintock suffered in Roseville last week, here’s an example –
Be prepared to interrupt and insist on your right to be heard. Since you won’t get the mic at an event like this, you have to attract attention to yourself and your message. Agree beforehand with your group on a simple message focused on a current or upcoming issue. Coordinate with each other to chant this message during any public remarks that your MoC makes. This can be difficult and a bit uncomfortable. But it sends a powerful message to your MoC that they won’t be able to get press for other events until they address your concerns.
If the Republicans (including the prez) keep their cool, 2018 should be a banner year because it is now clear that the know-nothing protesters have a hot button that is readily available to the GOP. Pushing it in an uncountable number of ways will bring out the double dummies in force, and let more and more folks in TV land say to themselves, ‘I’m not like that.’
And then we come to the progressives’ understanding of the Constitution which is really a separate topic that deserves its own focus. Let me just say here that the Left is doing everything it can to redirect and rearrange the constitutional functions of government, now using the judiciary as the only remaining arm that is still theirs, to determine policy, constructively legislate, and then implement the new rules they impose on us both individually and as a nation.
The time to the ascension of Associate Justice Gorsuch will seem like an eternity.
This was a fun read. The haven't even figured out why they lost, or just refuse to admit it. Yet already believing they can return to power in two years.

When you are against everything you can gain some support. Listening to the left I am unable to see anything that could rally them since they are made up of all the whiners in the country. The "doers" are still going to do. Now that we have a majority in DC and many other states it is important to maintain them. I like Trump's dissing of the corrupt media as over time it may make them do some changes. But locally the left and it's liberal women are energized this week. So expect a few meetings from them with their usual list of complaints. For me, America is about positive things. I am thinking about joining the League of gal voters as a balance to the whiners.

. Rather amusing watching their leadership. The Democrat Party used to be a major political organization. Now they a national mental health crisis. But for the grace of God, there go I. At least this guy is consistent.

They still have to protect Obama's Legacy (top priority #3) and want use Obama as their national voice. That is a good thing. His coattails don't reach downstream, never have. He will throw state and local Dems under the bus to protect and preserve his legacy and continue his divisive mission to transform America. Another good thing.
Never realized the breath of the DNC neglect of state and local party apparatuses. For example, Dem door knockers in Michagain had outdated voting rolls and knocked on friendly doors to be answered by Trumpsters 20% of the time, lol. We are a mobile society. Too much central control from the top. How so very much like them.
The big question is there still a place for your Daddy's Democrat Party in today's Democrat Party of Identity Politics and mutinationism? I think not. Not a true home. They will settle it one way or another, but I don't see them moving much beyond victimhood group think. It's like being stuck on stupid, another good thing. Very few adults around to run the asylum.
But, then again, never underestimate the enemy. But, then again, then again, they always overeach with the Drama Queen stuff and the hyperbole reaches blatantly obvious absurdity. Afterwall, they are who they are. Expect widespread protest fatigue from the viewing public in TV land. Fortunately, the Dems will be the last to see themselves as others see them, another good thing.
From Rahm three days ago:
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has warned Democrats they need to "take a chill pill" and realize that they are not going to take back national power anytime soon.
"It ain't gonna happen in 2018," Emanuel said Monday at Stanford's Graduate School of Business in California. "Take a chill pill, man. You gotta be in this for the long haul."
But, hey, they just want to argue they are right. They would eat their children rather than admit they are wrong. Another good thing.

A friend sent me an interview with Dr. Alveda King regarding Senator Warren's attack on Senator Sessions and the old letter to make him look bad. She said that Sessons did a lot for the black people and even prosecuted members of the KKK. She says the King family doesn't support those stirring the race pot to divide Americans.

Depends on how low trump will fall. Based on his first couple weeks in office he is obviously mentally disturbed and has no clue what is proper behavior for a President. The latest outright commercial for his daughters business from Kellyanne Conway on Fox News delivered from the White House is just today's example of how far off track this aggregate is.
"Go buy Ivanka's stuff, is what I was [saying] — I hate shopping and I'm going to go get some myself today," Conway said in an interview on Fox & Friends.
"This is just [a] wonderful line," she added. "I'm going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online."
Unbelievable.
How the Dems will take advantage of the fall of the Trumpers is another question I will attend to later.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 09 February 2017 at 12:16 PM
Nice try Paul, Trump AND the W.H. have chastised Kellyanne for making that statement.
So MoveOn Paul, MoveOn.. Yup, it stings when they take your ammo away.

Also this from Trump
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!
7:51 AM - 8 Feb 2017
That's our President using his bully pulpit to prop up his daughters failing business. Is this what we pay him to do?

George-- so the new direction is grab all the $ you can while you have the opportunity. ( see Melania's law suit among others)
Perhaps you righties should take off the blinders and see trump for what he is.. a con man and schemer whose actions and words will destroy this nation, not make it greater.
fish-- so you agree then that the trumps are a bunch of grifters.. despite your obligatory disclaimer.

There is no evidense Kelly Anne has been chastised. This is all that has been released.
“Kellyanne has been counseled and that’s all we’re going to go into,” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Thursday afternoon. “She’s been counseled on that subject.”
Spicer would not say whether that amounted to discipline.
What is your view of this? what in your opinion should Trump do about it.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 09 February 2017 at 12:40 PM
What the hell do you think "counseled" means Paul? Sorry dude, they don't use terms like "ass chewing" so even idiots can understand.
Posted by: Walt | 09 February 2017 at 12:46 PM
Where now Democrats? Well, since I am not a Democrat, Punchy is not a Democrat, and most posters here are not a Democrat, could we go out into the Wasteland and find a Democrat to answer the question for us?
At least I quoted Rahm Emanuel (D) who started off his speech by saying it's time for Democrats to "stop crying."
Mr. Cross may be a Democrat. If so, he has shown us the answer to "Where Now Democrats". What a vision he held out for the allustrious future of the Party of No...Idead. He may be the only one qualified to answer that question directly. The answer will start to take shape when the select Democrats from the Democrat Party vote to elect their DNC Chairperson later in the month.
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 09 February 2017 at 12:47 PM
Really Cross? Some asswhipe claims Mrs. Trump was a hooker and was taken to court, and was found guilty of slander. Whatever the monetary judgement is,good for her.
It should happen more often.

There is no evidense Kelly Anne has been chastised. This is all that has been released.
How is this really any different than when any politician or associate screws up and then holds a mildly contrite press conference where "they accept full responsibility" but that's the end of it?
Were you equally incensed about these countless other instances?
Posted by: fish | 09 February 2017 at 01:13 PM
Well, maybe Mr. Cross did tell us something. Looks like the Democrats are going to play with Kellyanne. The Democrats are going to lead their people to another eye rolling outrage of the day. Wandering in the wilderness looking for the Age of Aquarius.
Maybe someone gave Kellyanne a verbal warning and made note of it in her personnel file. Shocked I tell you, I am absolutely shocked.
Ah, never mind. They never had one, never will. I did notice Bernie has dumped the Democrat Party and gone back to being his normal self avowed socialist. One year as a Democrat was more than he could handle. I often wondered how Senator Sanders lasted a whole year as a Democrat, considering his age. An amazing feat, all in all.
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 09 February 2017 at 01:16 PM
"Unfortunately, it appears that many Democrats are suffering from a bad case of partisan bias resulting in an ideologically induced blindness to reality. If the data doesn’t fit the narrative of the Left’s accepted paradigm, then it is rejected."

How soon they forget what they've been trying to ignore. The Clinton Foundation was the poster child for politicians enriching themselves while (almost) propelling them to the nation's highest orifice but with a loaded money machine that would keep Chelsea in the game for years. Influence peddling on a billion dollar scale, rendered toothless in November.
America dodged a bullet.

Lead on Democrats, lead on. Pssst. Did you hear what that horrid sack of caca dodo Gorsuch did in college?
Blumenthal singled out a report in the Journal that questioned whether Gorsuch participated in pro-bono legal programs while attending Harvard Law School. The newspaper spoke to six of his contemporaries who did not recall Gorsuch providing free legal services to inmates or the poor as a student. The report failed to note that five of the six sources had donated thousands of dollars to liberal candidates and causes.
Blumenthal said he expected the report to play a role in confirmation hearings.
"This issue goes to credibility and qualifications," Blumenthal said.

All in all, the Chess Player had the most astute comment over the last few weeks. He said the Media is the opposition party. Been thinking about that daily. The Dems are currently in disarray, leaderless, nomad tribes of the Wasteland , "like a rolling stone with no direction home." They will pull it together in the fullness of time....ok, that may be a wee bit optimistic. Our grief stricken and shell shocked brethren of the Left need a helping hand while they struggle with temporary paralysis.
Thankfully it is the Media that is the unified voice of opposition. It is the media that is leading the charge, articulating the Democrat Party's now silent voice as the Dems keep banging into walls, trying to feel their way out of the darkness, the blind leading the blind.
My fellow posters and readers, we must look to the MSM for the answer to Where Now Democrats? Hopefully the Democrat Party will regain a semblance of sanity in this insane troubled time. I just don't have it in me to keep kicking suffering souls babbling incoherently, seeing such depths of despair and denial they have sunk into. Breaks my heart to see what has happened to a formerly formidable opponent.
It is a good thing the Media will cover for the Dems until they get out of rehab.

That's just a denial to lift the temporary stay. It will either go to the SCOTUS (they can appeal directly) or to the 9th Circus for a full hearing.
The 9th is the most overturned circuit in the country, this is not a big surprise to me.
There's a reason Reid put the Nuclear Option in place for lower courts... to pack them with Progressive jurists without delay by Republicans, and it's my understanding the panel that denied the appeal today were two Clinton and one Obama appointee, and I'd wager the judge assigning them the case also was.
Past elections meant things. So did the one in November.

BradC, GOP gentlemen like Romney and McCain were attacked just as venomously by the press as Trump was, and even Bill Mahre did a mea culpa that when they really had someone they hated, the attacks weren't effective... the basic story of the boy who cried wolf.
It would have helped if the Clinton campaign kahuna Podesta didn't push his media outlets (I think that means everyone except Fox) to push Trump as a "Pied Piper" candidate in 2015, so blame your people first.
You pushed through and found the Democratic Party to be in the worst shape it has been since the early 20's. Great going... maybe Obama deserves to be named Republican of the Year.
Obama was a gentleman to his people. Most telling was when the GOP won back the House, surprising the White House. In order to give the presumed new Speaker Boehner a congratulatory call, Obama's staff had to frantically search for someone who had his phone number because, surprise, surprise, surprise, as Minority Leader they completely ignored him. No cultivated relationship at all.
No surprise, since until 2010, Obama's story was arguably, "We won. You lost."

RR Addendum:
Yes indeed I have never seen the progressives as activated as they are now after the Bernie Bump and the Trump Thump. They are out of their seats and active in the community. Add to that the Hot Pots with their motivation for a reasonable cultivation ordinance and you have a rather formidable group to take on the Retired Repubs who are not being replaced by newcomers . Gonna be a challenge for the Repub stragglers left in the County in two years when two Supes seats and the Sheriffs race are up for grabs. Heidi Hall will be the Sue Horne for the progressives. Sue was an effective bugle for the Conservatives when the Progressives ran the show 15 years ago. Those of you not around then will have to do your homework to know what I'm talking about.
The real progressive message is "start at home" which is already in full stride in Nevada County. They are confident they can do a final clean up in two years.
In two years Trump will be a hangover after a binge party that will fall from the very weight of it's excesses. That will not play well nationally as mid term elections always do for the party out of power.

BillT - You guys can just fire Trump's ass! You had, what, 17 guys and gals to choose from and you picked HIM? Dems were screwed from the start, it was going to be Hillary, so not much choice there.
Wow......you guys field a shitty candidate and its everybody else fault! Actually pretty much what I expect from the left.
So Brad you won! Congratulations!
How many will we be admitting? For how long? Are they refugees or immigrants......and if they're immigrants why the hell do they get to line jump because Obama fucked up Syria? Do we have work for these people or will they do what they seem naturally inclined to do.... stay on the dole forever like in Europe? How many should Nevada City get? Will they be staying with you?

PE 450- You need to review exactly who's seats are up in 18'. Half of the 25 dem senators are in solid Trump States. Just as Trump was declared DOA by you and your team only to find out he had a historic win and won both houses, you are more likely to have another pattern breaker in 18'. What mischief will President Trump be up to with 60 in the Senate? Hey PE, its going to be a quick 12 years! ;-)

The State Department has more than doubled the rate of refugees from Iraq, Syria and other suspect countries in the week since a federal judge’s reprieve, in what analysts said appears to be a push to admit as many people as possible before another court puts the program back on ice.
A staggering 77 percent of the 1,100 refugees let in since Judge James L. Robart’s Feb. 3 order have been from the seven suspect countries. Nearly a third are from Syria alone — a country that Mr. Trump has ordered be banned altogether from the refugee program. Another 21 percent are from Iraq. By contrast, in the two weeks before Judge Robart’s order, just 9 percent of refugees were from Syria and 6 percent were from Iraq.
“There’s no doubt in my mind they would be doing whatever they could to get people in before something changes because, from their perspective, their motivation is to resettle these folks. It would not be the first time that State Department officials have prioritized facilitating someone’s entry to the United States over security concerns,” said Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies.
Why the need to resettle as many as possible?
To mint a new horde of democrat lever pullers! Awfully transparent aren't they?

My interest is mainly California and local because that's where we live Don. You should take more interest in where you live because it's slip sliding away. Lots of room in Red States though. Nebraska has good deals on flat lands and Don no pot growers to pester you.

Brad @ 4:18 pm.
Now I am confused. I thought you were a Democrat. Sorry, I assumed wrong. I cannot answer the question where the Dems go from here. I cannot because I need a Democrat to answer the question.
Brad, I was hoping you would lay out policies and other detailed plans to sell what the Dems have to offer. Sorry, I guess your answer is the Dems only answer.
Paul, you cannot answer where the Democrat Party goes from here. Remember you vowed to NEVER vote for the two party candidates ever again? That disqualifies you from answering questions about what the Democrat agenda is from here. Unless you lied about your solemn oath, which is always a likely situation, you are not qualified to answer. But, thanks for trying to speak on behalf of the Democrats.
So, the Democrats plan is for the Republicans to fire a sitting President. Lol. No wonder the Dems got rejected in such massive numbers. That is not a winning strategy.
Paul, do you know any Democrats that can tell us where the Democrat Party goes from here? Besides preferred pronouns and wearing vagina costumes, I mean. Unless that is their plan, I dunno.
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 09 February 2017 at 05:43 PM
Based on your pattern of posted links you are BS'ing @ 553 PE. No one made you make a ridiculous prediction about the mid-terms. Especially considering your track record, PE TKO'd with his own glove. ;-)
Posted by: Don Bessee | 09 February 2017 at 05:54 PM
Bill
My ambivolance to the two parties doesn't disqualify me from being a commentator on local and national politics Bill. What gives you that idea?
The Dems nationally have some regrouping to do for sure. The other question is what will the Repubs do after the Trump crash which is sure as rain tomorrow. Their best hope is that he quits and Pense takes over. In a short time cracks in his delicate support system will appear because he's pretty nuts and without a clue about what's coming his way. Remember, he is a populist choice because of a resourceful and clever campaign against a flawed Democrat. The Republican establishment never did and never will like him and will bail when the time is right. He has the the true support of less than a third of the electorate who regard him as some kind of savior that will lead them to the promised land. Let's check in on that in a few months and see if I'm right.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 09 February 2017 at 05:55 PM
Yo Brad. If "we" fire Trump, what do we get in return? Not Spreading Bulll or a Bernie self declared socialist. No deal.
But, if we fire Daddy, then we get Pence, a great choice and a gentleman. 100% anti-killing unborn children. So, then you will say fire Pence, and that puts Ryan on the Throne, assuming we fire Pence's hypothetical VP. Boy, your plan will take years.
No deal. I love my Emperor God. I love him more each day when I see what he is doing to your nervous system, digestive track, and your emotional peace of mine. That alone is worth more than Daddy's weight in gold.
Now, tell me why Trump got elected. Think. It was to pound you into the ground and drive a stake through each of your eyeballs. Remember all those years of calling me a racist and ignorant and deplorable? Well, I remember. Partridge Farms remembers. And now, you will taste a bit of Karma. Remember all those nasty things you said on line and over at Fatso's blog for years?? Very bad things. Hey mush for brains, I have been following you closely for quite a spell. Sweet dreams and enjoy the suffering. Oh, my people never stooped so low to eat acorns. That is so repulsive. Must be a CA native thang. We also took slaves and killed for fun and free. It's in my blood, paleface. I have not been pussy wiped.

Posted by: Don Bessee | 09 February 2017 at 06:05 PM
Paul. there is only ONE poll that counts. It's called an election. Remind us who won that.
But to throw you a bone..(not much meat left for you though)
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 53% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-seven percent (47%) disapprove.
Posted by: Walt | 09 February 2017 at 06:05 PM
The Dems are likely to lose, not gain, seats in the Senate in 2018. Given the low expectations set by the news media, it's likely even a mediocre first two years of Trump would probably look like a triumph in '18 and'20, and the very liberal blocking of the Trump refugee order upheld by the 9th Circus will indemnify Trump for any terrorist act from within, if anyone from the Obama 7 countries is involved. Dems would own the carnage.
This is chess, too many on both sides are playing tic-tac-toe. Patience, Grasshoppers.

Paul, 555, for your self esteem, not the good of the country, I hope you are right this time.
You've been wrong with every prediction you've made in the past year and a half, maybe your luck will change; it'll have to be luck because your logic remains on the loony side.
IIRC you told me face to face in Sept or Oct the only hope the GOP has to survive is if they replace Trump on the ticket IMMEDIATELY and work on minimizing the damage. You had a big smile on your face. Didn't happen. Have you been taking different medications since then?

Don. I bet Trump would love to sign that Bill on the Justice building steps in Frisco.
Posted by: Walt | 09 February 2017 at 07:35 PM
Walt, what needs to be done as far as the GOP is concerned is to pack Federal courts at all levels with originalists and textualists so that fewer social justice warrior decisions can be made. Doesn't really matter how. They've a Senate majority, a GOP President and VP/President of the Senate, and thanks to Republican of the Year Harry Reid, Cloture for lower judges and cabinet positions are a thing of the past and on life support for the open SCOTUS seat... if the Dems use it and dare McConnell to be a Reid for a Day, it will be wiped clean.
If establishing a new Circus is the way to get more seats that need filling, I wouldn't bet against it. In the meantime, there is one SCOTUS and four empty 9th Circuit seats open that have more short and medium term meaning.

But this time, the President is out to restore rights of the people, and take the boot off our collective necks.

Who gives a crap about what the Clinton's did or didn't do with their foundation at this juncture. They are out of the picture. We are talking about the people in there now. A couple of weekends ago trump went to two affairs, both to promote his own holdings. How is that for cashing in? Or how about this for Christian ethics: it seems the Sec. of Labor nominee, the fast food low pay screw employees guy, sold his CA home to a porn mogul for $8.1M. I wonder what his position will be on porn actors wearing condoms?

My, go out to resuce a friend in need in this foul weather and nobody has told us where do the Dems go now. I suppose it's because nobody knows. Nobody, not even the Dems. The have lost their ever loving minds. That is assuming they had one to begin with.
Oh leave Paul alone. It ain't right picking on a retarded person.. Don't know if he took one too many in the head or was dropped as a baby or was born without much to work with. He is dumb as a fence post. It's not his fault. He has a child's understanding. That is why he asks "why, why, why" to simplistic answers. Tonight when I went to rescue a friend in Nevada City, there was a special needs boy there. Nice kid, big heart, but sounded exactly like poor Paul. Then the light went on. Talking to the boy with his limited abilities made me realize that poor Paul is missing a few cards in the deck. I thought Paul was faking it or horsing around because nobody is that stupid. But, yes, there are some who for whatever the reason are just not all there.
Picking on the less fortunate is not right. We all need to try to be nice to the poor soul and amuse him and pretend everything is as he says it is to be. The other side can spit on us and beat us and shun us, but we are better than that. Poor guy is still stuck on Bush and now he is trying to cope with that big long five letter word T-r-u-m-p. We are better than them. I for one with try to exercise more patience with his child's mind trapped in aging body. I feel sorry for the confused manchild. But for the grace of God...
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 09 February 2017 at 10:16 PM
Whatever to all the National stuff. Nevada County is destined to be deep blue in a couple of years and there's nothing the Repubs can do about it because they don't live here anymore.

You're talking like a man with nothing to say. Out of bullets just foaming about nothing.
Why debate Sessions? He is part of the spoils of war. Much more interesting to discuss local issues.

Next up from Bill a round of obscenities. Very colorful and creative and oddly entertaining.

Posted by: Gregory | 09 February 2017 at 11:22 PM
Paul.
I did not bring up Sessions. But, it's ok if you say so. You are a nice man. But if you say I brought up Sessions, I must have. You are a nice man. Why bring up Sessions? Why? You are nice man. Why bring up Sessions? Why? You are nice man. You good man. Why?
The topic is where do the Dems go from here? Here is a possible answer. Possible since there are no policies laid out.
A poll by Emerson College showed that while 49% of the country trusts President Trump, only 39% believe in the media. Imagine that.
Meanwhile, where is the vision that will lead Democrats out of their self- inflicted political exile? Where are their policies that will boost incomes and win back the hearts of traditional blue collar Democrats?
They have none. They attack all and every Republican idea, but propose nothing.
At the retreat, Steny Hoyer, the number two Democrat in the House, tied future gains to rebuilding “our state and local parties.” He doesn’t seem to understand that attracting voters requires a winning message. Hillary Clinton didn’t have one, and neither does the party today.
Democrats need to turn around their sinking ship, but cannot find the rudder. The outrage vented by Elizabeth Warren against every Trump cabinet nominee may be helpful to Elizabeth Warren, but it may backfire. For instance, it is hard to imagine that the middle class Pennsylvania worker – the poster child for the lost Democrat voter -- is inspired by her defamation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

This 9th Circuit Court has worked wonderfully in Trump's favor. Another gift that keeps on giving. More proof that liberal courts have sidestepped the Constitution and made a political expedient rulings..... Smoked them out in the open. This is good news. A great win in the big picture.....
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 09 February 2017 at 11:52 PM
I suspect the boycott of committee meetings on confirmations to delay or derail cabinet appointees is going to be in campaign advertising in 2018 for those open Dem seats.
Showing up for committee meetings really is part of the job. And no, there is no moral equivalence with the Garland nomination. There is no Constitutional requirement to act on a Presidential nominee... which is why both Schumer and Biden had declared the same thing prior to a possible Bush nomination in his last 12 to 18 months.
With all the thunder and blazes over the confirmations, Schumer couldn't even stop the weakest and most controversial nominee, DeVos ... if that means they'll even work harder to stop Gorsuch... what won't help in 2018 or 2020. From all accounts, Gorsuch has all the GOP and some Dems.
Posted by: Gregory | 10 February 2017 at 12:04 AM
Come on Gregory Do you really have any doubt Nevada County is a blue county ?
Posted by: Paul Emery | 10 February 2017 at 12:24 AM
Paul, are you that forgetful?
It was a bare plurality for Hillary in this county. You do know the difference between a majority and a plurality, don't you? The split was about as 50/50 left/not left as one could have expected even given there was practically no reason for anyone who wasn't a DEM to show up at the polls unless they really cared about the tweedledee and tweedledum Senate race.
Give the people a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, and the Democrat will win every single time.
Paul, you have a deep seated, dare I say almost Trumpian need for Nevada County to be "blue"... you might want to put a check on that.
Posted by: Gregory | 10 February 2017 at 12:41 AM
When Wisconsin's democrat Senators adiosed over the state line to avoid voting they dound out the voters did not like that. No we have Scott Walker and a state that went for Trump. Same thing will happen in the US Senate.
Since Paul Emery claims to be in the media and also a journalist, his ratings are way lower in polling than Trumps. Hell they are as low as Congress! So I find it amusing he forgets to look in the mirror in his poll watching. Trump is way more popular than Paul Emery's ilk.
Nevada County has a plurality and right now the democrats have a slight lead. But our indies are more conservative than he gives them credit for. The elections spit out a mixed bag of party types. Blue? Nope.
This decision by the Ninth Circus will be a simple bump in the road. Trump can withdraw it, rewrite it and toss it in again. This will keep the democrats and their sycophant Judges busy for years.

BillT@11:24
It might be inaccurate to speaks about 'Democrats' since, from all appearances, they are more a coalition of self-interested groups rather than speaking from a philosophy.
In terms of Elizabeth Warren, aside from her hectoring abilities, I can't say that there's much there there.

Thanks Scenes. Lizzy Forked Tongue is good for bringing out to screech at bankers, then back to her Insider Establishment Big Donor collection role. I was just wondering if the Democrat Party (the topic of the post) had a coherent unified message yet.
In all fairness, it will probably take 18 months or so for them to regain their land legs after being adrift at sea for so long. It had been only been 3 months since the election, most of that time spent in a lame duck Congress.
More will be revealed after the DNC vote for their chairmanperson. Establish DIMOs are not getting the warm fuzzies over the Sanders Wing, yet need the Sanderistas to remain competitive. Will they go for a former disciple of Minister Farrakhan's Black Nationalist Movement (Separatists, akin to White Nationalists' separate but equal) or will they go for the more Establishment pick? Obama has not publicly tipped his hand. Sanders and Warren and Chuckie support the Minn. Congressman and Biden sides with the former Labor Secretary.
It is hard to get a true reading of what they stand for living in the dwindling number of Blue States. Besides Obama's "that is not who we are" and Hillary Hodges's "democratic principles", I was looking more for concrete proposals than the strategy. The very rare policy, agenda, and idea put forth has been but a brief sentence of principle coupled inseperately to several sentences about opposition to Trump. "I believe in the preamble to the Declaration of Independence and here is a paragraph of Trump is bad and must be stopped.
I have come to the belief that Dr. Rebane's post may be a few months premature.

Senator Elizabeth Warren is ripping into the nominee Steven Mnuchin for buying or enforcing foreclosures last decade. He is Trump's guy for Treasury. Warren is using examples from those foreclosed on as a "moral" argument against Mnuchin. But wait for it. She also did the same thing! This is why we are fed up with "holier than thou" liberals. They screw over people but I guess they do it with a smile so all is good. She claims she is a "indian" because her gramma had high cheek bones. She used that lie to get government grants and admissions to colleges. So I ask you. Why do the good people of Massachusetts elect such a known scofflaw? She should resign and give that seat over to a honest person. She is a typical lying democrat.

Since the Dems are in the reaction mode right now, it's up to the R's in Congress to get in the responsive mode. React vs Respond. Here is another idea to have a good orderly immigration policy, a worthy goal. Step by step, arrive at the same desired spot. If we can't take a jet plane, driving a car will have to do.
