Norm Sauer
In my column last month (http://www.theunion.com/opinion/norm-sauer-the-progressive-swamp-of-washington-d-c/), I predicted the surveillance of Trump and his team by the Obama administration may be a story bigger than Watergate.
To date an enormous amount of media attention and investigations about direct Russian collusion with Trump have found no evidence. However, little attention has been given to improper unmasking of surveillance and leaking, and yet this has far more credibility based on contradictory statements by Susan Rice, the reported data on unmasking, and Obama’s expansion of access to intercepts.
On March 22, House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) announced that he had learned that members of President Donald Trump’s transition team had been under surveillance by the Obama administration, that individual names had been “unmasked” by the intelligence community, and that those names had been leaked to the media. Nunes said that while there was no direct “wiretap” by President Barack Obama of Trump Tower, there was indeed surveillance — perhaps collected incidentally — of people close to Trump, possibly including Trump himself.
“I believe it was all done legally,” Nunes told a press conference. The question, he said, was why names of those swept up in the surveillance had been leaked. So, the collection of the intelligence appeared to have been legal, but the leaking may have been illegal.
In a PBS interview later on March 22, 2017, Obama’s National Security Advisor Susan Rice denied any knowledge of the intelligence community’s incidental surveillance of Trump’s transition team or of any ‘unmasking.’ Her words, “I know nothing about this.”
On April 3 the Bloomberg View reported that White House lawyers learned that the former national security adviser Susan Rice requested the identities be unmasked of U.S. citizens in raw intelligence reports on dozens of occasions that connect to the Donald Trump transition and campaign.
Contradicting her interview on PBS, on April 4 Susan Rice was interviewed by Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC. Rice admitted engaging in unmasking U. S. citizens in intelligence reports but claimed she didn’t leak “nothing to nobody.” Further, Rice implied President Obama ordered the compilation of intelligence reports on Trump officials when she said, “the president requested the compilation of the intelligence, which was ultimately provided in January (2017).”
It is important here to mention that on March 29, Evelyn Farkas, Obama’s former deputy assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, while on Morning Joe admitted: “I was urging my former colleagues, . . . get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can. . . Because I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior [Obama] people who left … that the Trump folks – if they found out how we knew what we knew about their … the Trump staff dealing with Russians – that they would try to compromise those sources and methods . . .”
The reference to “how we knew” is evidence that Trump and his team were the objects of Obama administration intelligence reports, and we know from other sources those reports regarding Trump personnel were unmasked and leaked by the intelligence community to the major media most likely with the knowledge and blessing of Susan Rice and President Obama.
The sole purpose of foreign intelligence collection is to understand the actions and intentions of foreign powers and their operatives. Proper surveillance of an American citizen requires that either a crime be involved or suspicion of being a foreign agent, either ground requiring a FISA warrant.
So, we have conduct, conflicting statements and admissions by the Obama administration officials of unmasking and leaking of intelligence concerning Trump aides and possibly Trump himself probably for a political purpose. In the past, Benghazi lies about a you-tube video and the IRS’s misuse against conservative non-profits by Obama’s administration suggest political considerations were his and his administration’s top concerns. Hence, it seems surveillance of Trump and his team probably was politically motivated.
This surveillance, unmasking, and leaking of intelligence on president-elect Trump and his team, if done for political purposes such as to delegitimize his presidency and leadership is an abuse of power and an offense against the public trust. Necessarily involved in this scandal are the entire intelligence community, Obama’s right-hand person Susan Rice, and probably Obama himself.
Stay tuned.
Norm does enough stretching in this piecee to put most yoga instructors to shame. As far as "delegitimizating " a President you got to give that award to Trump and the birther movement he spawned while Obama was President. Don't bother responding with the obscure reference to Hillary's campaign in '08. That's old fake news.

Said the old fakenewsman @ 815. Slick willy & co own that one po' ol' PE. ;-)
Posted by: Don Bessee | 27 April 2017 at 08:23 AM
Hillary started the birther movement. Trump simply picked it up and rn with it. Trump is fine. He has the courage to forge ahead. I look at the left and see nothing there except their "judges" to stop the changes. This is all rather fun and watching a leader take on these slobs of the media and their lackeys, the democrats, is simply great!

Glad you're having a good time Todd.
The topic raised by Norm is that of undermining a sitting President not a campaign question raised in '07. Obama was not President in '07.

Today's elite argumentative double standard mentality is interesting. Many people have a problem respecting the opinions of others they consider less educated than themselves. This may seem a little off topic, but our nation's leaders, along with those who elect them seem to have problems obviously related to public education and our hypnotic media
Monday evening a bunch of us drove to Auburn to see the movie "The Case For Christ," the true story based on former legal editor (of the Chicago Tribune) Lee Strobel's experience during the early 1980s. He was an atheist. When his little daughter almost choked to death in a restaurant, and was saved by a Christian nurse who happened to be there. This resulted with Strobel's wife being converted. This caused a great rift in their marriage, so he decided to investigate the facts surrounding the case for Christianity...mostly to discredit it to his wife. He considered himself intellectually superior and factually based, therefore only physical things exist. He interviewed biblical scholars, medical doctors and psychologists; read history, philosophy and apologetics; studied archeology and ancient literature; and meticulously picked apart the Bible.
The education process of this stubborn man is an eye opener.

The "delegitimizing" campaign that Norm Sauer noted was happening against Trump seems to be taking a toll on his support.
It appears voters have buyers remorse abut voting for trump. According to a Fox Poll released today If the election were to be held today he would only receive 36 % of the vote with 55% preferring to vote for somebody else.
Here's a link with the grizzly details.

How uninteresting that the fakenewsman is back as the po' ol' pollhead, CNN even acknowledged that Trump would beat madam liar liar pantsuits on fire in the popular vote if it were held today according to 'polling'.
We know that comrade bernies wife wont be leading any attacks on the President anytime soon. She apparently committed fraud in the loan application for the school she ran into the ground (now closed). The FBI and postal service (mail, wire fraud) want to know why she lied claiming nearly 3 million bucks in donor commitments to get the 3.3 million bank loan. The problem is the records only show 600k was actually pledged. Must be that socialist math! Did you hear that comrade bernie has 3 homes? ;-)

What Does bernies wife have to do with anything Don. I was just commenting on the declining popularity of trump according to FOXNews polls. These polls are factual and you better believe they're being looked at by the honcho republicans who are paid to keep an eye on these things

Imagine this scenario: Hillary Clinton is president. It's learned that she has deep ties to Putin. She puts utterly unqualified billionaires in cabinet posts. She puts her daughter Chelsea in a position of influence in the West Wing. And Chelsea's husband is her chief advisor. She refuses to release any of her tax returns, and she blocks access to the visitor logs in the White House. Bill refuses to live in the White House, so millions in tax dollars are spent keeping him safe in New York. Meanwhile, Hillary spends almost every weekend lounging around a resort she owns, AND, in an interview she names the wrong country she attacked while bragging about the chocolate cake she was eating at her resort while the Tomahawk missiles were in the air.
The outrage, the outcries, the screaming by the Republican National Committee, Speaker Paul Ryan, Senator Mitch McConnell, would be heard around the world.

It's a sure sign of desperation when the hard left has make stuff up without pretending they weren't making stuff up. Like when Democrats were so disillusioned with President Bill Clinton that they flocked to "The West Wing" where very week they could enjoy an hour of the President they thought they were electing in '92.
Imagine had Hillary's campaign manager had not pushed his team in the media to promote Trump as a Pied Piper candidate before the primary season voting even started.

the amazing thing is that while PE focuses on overall polls, polls have also found that Trump would still win the electoral college vote but also the popular vote.

Paul was giddy over the Trump phenomenon for at least the last 15 months. Paul, face to face, how many times were you spreading the good news that Dems would have to help GOP voters pick up the pieces of their self esteem after the election, to reintegrate them into the body politic, some semblance of a mojo to move forward while accepting they really don't matter anymore. Sound familiar?

Again, if the vote were held again today Trump would beat madam liar liar pantsuits on fire in the raw vote total is the point. That's better than he did in Nov. ;-)

Don it's a special group, the Republican Druids. You've met many of them but they won't acknowledge you as a Druid without you offering the special handshake. Many are cultivators who are rooting for Sessions to try and shut down legal pot so they can make some real money again. You have a lot in common with them about that. Being Republicans they hate government regulations and are into free market distribution.
Anyway, I can set you up and show you the handshake if you like.

Right now po' ol' PE your druid pot growers should be more concerned with what grandpa jerry and Gavin Newsom have in mind for next year. Single owner, vertically integrated, seed to store shelf, big pot corporations. There will be no small growers, just personal and a big Tabaco like structure when the dust settles. ;-)

You got it right Don. That's why they want Trumps guy Sessions to ban all pot growing so the good old days will return again and the Feds are faced with an unenforceable law. You are actually a folk hero to the illegals who are pulling for you Don as well as you're organization so they can get back to making the big bucks with no taxes or enforcement.

Paul, regarding the poll results showing a Trump win in the popular vote at the time (maybe 3 weeks ago) of the poll, it was a real poll and widely discussed. I thought, also here. If you can't find it and require assistance, ask again and provide the search terms you used to look.
I recall the result then was 43%/40% in Trump's favor in the popular vote, with minor party votes increasing with the perspective of 20/20 hindsight.

We got a new SCOTUS sitting on the bench within the first 100 Days. If a miracle happens and Ginsberg pulls a Hillary and takes a little tumble on her melon, we might get another one on the bench in the next couple hundred days. Now it had become plain as day that thugs are running all the Alt-Lefties from the streets to the Lefty power centers. They have been smoked out and a fascist angry unhinged lot they are. Hate to say we have been telling ya so, but we have for a long time. They are out to shut us up and shut us down. No worries. Everything they do goes POW! In their faces. A pack of Wile E. Coyotes for sure. There is a comfort in the familiarity of it all.

They can go ahead and try to delegitimize Trump til the cows come home. They might even get a few successful skirmishes and battlefield victories in as they lose the war.
This is a perfect time to reflect on the last wonderful months of deligitimizing Trump.
1). Remember the zero chance MSN and their Alt-Left servants gave to Trump winning? No chance. Instead Trump raked in chips like Sherman's March to the Sea. Of course there was absolutely no way Trump would get to 270, so Trump went the other way around and got 302. November 8th warmed the cockles of me weary heart. As a bonus, we got to witness the biggest temper tantrum in the history of mankind.
2). Post election recounts by 1% of the vote Jill, ROFLMAO. Yep, she was 3 House Bernie before Bernie became 3 house Bernie. Then impeachment.hysteria and the Lefties were rubbing their hands together in gleeful antipation and projecting Pence would be sitting in the Oval Office within a month max, guaranteed. Did I forget the smoking gun, aka, Yellow Shower? Too funny. You can't make this stuff up.
3). Well, according to the fakenews men and woman, Trump was not supposed to be in Washington DC and then Trump was not supposed to be in office this long. 100 days must seem like a lifetime to them. They certainly do not handle disappointment graciously. Come to think of it, they do not handle the word 'no' with any dignity or civility either.
But lest we forget, the biggest achievement of Trump's first 100 days that we all can agree on (be you Righty, center, uncommitted, or Libertarian) is this fact:

I Traveled to Berkeley last Thusrday to attend the "Freedom of Speech" rally. This was the rally that Ann Coulter, noted conservative pundit and author was originally going to attend. But the City of Berkeley and it chicken Mayor would not guarantee her protection on campus. She decided to cancel and instead went down to Modesto and spoke. Her topic was to be about illegal immigration and of course that got the ire of the liberals/democrats/anarchists all a-boil! And as we read and watched TV news all week we saw them salivating there would be blood in the streets. So I and a few other Patriots attended the rally. The left barely showed its weasal faces. The rumor was the Feds would be there and take those illegal masks and face coverings off the lib weasels and arrest therm. This may have had somethingf to do with those cowards not showing up in larger numbers. Hard to committ violence and attack little old ladies if people see your face.
So it was pretty peaceful. I listened to those radicals on the right talk about the Constitution and freedom and all those extremist postions. Free sppeech, assembly and the like. Wow! Radicals. And towards the end we saw about fifty black-garbed punks try to come into the venue but the few hundred of us stood in their way. They crapped their pants and ran away. No violence needed. People just standing up to them made them afraid. Towards the end the High School nearby got out and we saw the Antifa's try and get those kids to attack us. Did not work nut they did the chants, the ones with four letter words. Real classy people.
All in all it was a good day for freedom and the Constitution. And there were as many news organizations and reporters there than there were the bad guys. Funny how that is. So all in all, very anti-climatic. Yet the news as I read it that night and the next day was still skewed to make it appear the good guys, us, were the bad guys. No wonder the press is hated.

Darn Todd, the Fascist Left really really needs a big event to happen real soon. Like a Kent State or made up Ferguson narrative to put a spark to the gas and get the Revolution rolling. But nooooo. How very anticlimactic indeed. Well, even when their best plans fizzle, it still blows up in their faces. Wonder if that is why they prefer to wear masks and gloves....to cover all the powder burns from their best laid plans that consistently blow up in their faces again and again. POW! Me thinks they are illegitimate. Never get tired of winning.
Charles Krautahammer says it well. And he calls the Anti-Fascists anti-First Amendment thugs! Great minds think alike. And they call Trump delegitimate. Like watching the Titanic.

The Lefties' struggle for sexual freedom continues in the oppressive Trump era of the first 100 days. Boy, them liberal thugs sure get obsessed with taboos and all things sexual and deviate. Something's just don't change.

Delegitimization of Trump? Ok, turnabout is fair play.
"What the Democratic Party has yet to understand is that its social and cultural agenda is irrelevant or inimical to the material and spiritual well being of their former constituents. And until the Democrats recognize this fact, their next 100 days will be no better than their first."

Readers and commentators of RR:
After reviewing all that has been said it is my belief a word need be said to pull you all back to the importance of my column. I am a strong believer in the country's need for intelligence, and I support our intelligence community when it does what it is designed to do. My column is based on fact from leftish sources like MSNBC and CNN. The facts are words from the mouths of Mr. Nunez and Ms. Rice. To the time of my article only these facts were known and as such I could only posit that "probably" unmasking and leaking were done for political purposes by the Obama administration. I could not say this was shown "beyond a reasonable doubt." Unfortunately, Paul Emery called this a "stretch" while ignoring the facts on which my conclusion of the "probability" of use of intelligence of Americans being unmasked and leaked for political purposes was posited.
Most importantly, misuse of intelligence for political purposes is conduct no American can abide, whether of the right or the left. As mentioned, we need our intelligence communities to do their job as a matter of our national security. The issues of misuse of intelligence by the Obama administration cuts across party lines and amounts to a breach of the public trust. If Obama can get away with it, then who's to say Trump or another can't get away with such misuse? Our Declaration of Independence and Constitution will have been subverted and we'll turn into a third world country from the standpoint of dirty politics and unbridled lawlessness.
My final comment: Our education system has not taught civics since the 1970's. Many of our current leaders probably have not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution and most likely have no deep appreciation for the same. This being so, look at the rest of our society and how far many have strayed from our founding principles. Most on the left believe government gives us our rights to life, liberty and property, but those who know our founding documents appreciate our rights come from a power higher than any government. People who legally come or came to America seem to appreciate our freedoms more than those born and taught here.

Thanks Norm. Paul will be Paul. In his view( stated here almost day in and day out) "O" and Co. could do no wrong, It's still Bush's fault, and Trump has no business being President.
Yet THIS is what happens when the UC system hires a disgraced "O" appointee.(LIB business as usual)

Thanks Norm...What you've shared is very true. Many years ago I studied what happened in Russia and Germany, but never pictured it happening here. Now we're watching the same mentality and actions making it happen. Ya gotta have a sense of humor when they hatefully call those who don't go along with them Nazi. Are they pretending to not knowing the word stands for National Socialist party that they support?
Sorry to somewhat change the subject, but we all know people like Soros fund most of the protest leaders. Here's an interesting Silicon Valley murder story Apple qualified for reading this weekend. It shows what happens when people lack a higher moral compass.

Didn't vote for Obama second time around Walt because I found him to be incompetent. Did you vote for Bush the second time? If you did does that mean you found him to be competent and that you can and will defend his actions and job performance?

Nice try Paul. Bush wasn't that bad, and many were wishing they could have him back right after, and LONG after "O" got anointed (uh)elected. I know your memory is short but trust me on that. Sorry there Paul, that ONE vote you casted was bad enough. I, along with plenty others knew "O" was bad news from the beginning, yet you bought into his and the DEM BS.
I do hope you enjoy the extra gouging from the state of Ca. I'm sure you can afford it.
Just wait till the diesel tax gets passed on from trucking to the likes of Whole foods, and Brier Patch. Now the cost of building anything will go up. That includes "affordable" housing.

Sorry Walt! Thought it was an interesting example of "fair and balanced" journalism.
Here's a little more....
"Here's where it gets gooey. Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.

Mr. Norm S. @ 9:48 am
Wr of right minds get your point full well. The point you missed is it is all political now. It's all Resistance all day long to Trump. Yes, it is very upsetting that our Constitution has been subverted by the Excutive Branch. Spying on US citizens for political purposes should get everyone up in arms. But no. If Obama used our intelligence agencies to spy on opposing political campaigns, that is a call to storm the gates and take our country back in normal times. Take Obama and the rest of the sorry scourge march them straight to the guillotine! Never happen. If Trump did 1/10th of what the Obama Administration did, the cries for impeachment and prison would reach the third heaven. Never happen in today's world. No more playing "he did it too!". The Left and Green Libertarians simple do not care. See no evil, hear no evil.........
There was once a point when the Right and the civil libertarians and, of course, the Left would lock arms and protest this obscene high corruption in government. Spying on political opponents to a degree that far surpassed Nixon should get every American's radar up. But, no. That was then, this is now. No outcry. I feel your alarm, Mr. Norm, but all we can do is watch and listen to the crickets as our liberties are under full assault. It's just not newsworthy to the Fake Alt-Left MSM newsmen and newswomen.
I once thought that the MSM was an arm of the Democrat Party. No more I think such erroneous thoughts. The Democrat Party is but a tool of the Fake News Alt-Left MSM.
Now, our 1st Amendment is under assault. Instead of rising up as Americans to vigorously defend against trampling of our rights underfoot, we on the Right are left all alone to fight to protect the very first of all Amendments to the Constitution of the United States. It used to be a issue that was sacred to all Americans and worth overthrowing the King for. Worth dying for. Give me liberty or give me death! Not no more. The Left is spitting on the 1st Amendment, fighting tooth and nail against the 2nd Amendment, and is chipping away at the 4th Amendment daily.....with delight.
Rather than cry out against these unspeakable treasonous acts on a daily basis, I jnow just watch and wait. There will be no outcry from the media or the Left, and only cheering from the globalists who hate the founding of our sovereign nation, its history, its individual rights, its borders, its language, and especially her COTUS. . They want to tear it down and build something....er....something much different. The Constitution and men of honor and duty are the only things that stands in their way. No Norm, do not expect a peep of dismay that our civil liberties are being used to wipe the Globalists' arses. It is their plan, in print, for all to read for years now. Yes, they are so blind by their hatred of patriotism that they cannot even see that the same club used on own freedoms can be used on them in due time.
Yes, Norm, the air raid sirens should be going off big time. The crickets are beyond frustrating. Its exasperating. But, rathet than belabor the point further, I will quote Dr. Rebane's observation from "Lemmings march for science?" (Apr. 30 @8:36am.)
"The evidence of the widespread insanity of the Left is beyond measure, yet none of this is visible to them. And the Right is helpless to stop the spread of this intellectual epidemic since the Left has established firm control of the educational, entertainment, and news media institutions. All we can do at this stage is watch aghast and search for feasible ways to separate our fates from theirs." ---- Dr. George Rebane
Well said.

Trump spoke in Pennsylvania last nite. I searched all over for a report on the total number in the vwnue. Unable to find it. But the cameras never pulled back to show the whole place like a footall or Bbabll game. He let them have it some more. It really is a shame the press is so petty they can't even report the crowd size.

Todd, it was in excess of 11k, the biggest crowd ever in that venue! Lots of folks listening outside. Pay attention to those who make the communist international day an issue. They tell us who they are and we need to understand who they are in their coordinated collective international socialist goals if we are to keep them from destroying freedom. GOD BLESS AMERICA! ;-)

Don, Todd, Walt and Bill
Are you personally confident that the amount of growth inspired by the proposed Trump tax cuts will make up for the lost revenue and not contribute to the national debt?
Don writes "You have yet to respond to my question of the 29th @ 459pm."this about sums it up
Trump signed 32 executive orders, a record for a President in the first 100 days after accusing Obama of abusing the system and making that a major campaign issue.
0 Major legislative wins. One if you count the internet bill that allows ISP's the right to peddle our personal information
He also bombed an obscure airfield in Syria causing some pot holes that have since been repaired and dropped a big bomb in the Afgan desert.
He appointed one Supreme Judge.
No action on obamacare or tax cuts just talk and no rock.
He also is showing the lowest poll numbers for the first 100 days in history.

You asked for a survey of Trumps accomplishments Don and I gave them to you. Here was your question " How many bills and how many Executive orders has the President signed in the last 100 days, be specific po' ol' PE? ;-)
I specifically answered the Exec Action portion. Here's the list according to FOX News. There was not one piece of major legislation signed by Trump. No Wall, no Heath Care Reform, no Budget no Tax Reform,,,,,,,,,

It appears that the Left still considers all executive orders equal - perhaps it reflects their understanding of American governance - when comparing Obama's and Trump's EOs. They seem not to recognize that O did his best to legislate with his EOs, and Trump's EOs were signed to undo O's endrunning Congress. But this confusion through the lamestream works wonders with the information-free constituents who always vote Democrat.

Paul 956PM
The Supreme Court of the USA doesn't have "judges". Not one, not nine.
As far as the national debt is concerned, I tend to agree with Milton Friedman... the problem is the spending not the lack of money prised from the people.
"It's spending that has all the bad effects that is attributed to the debt, not the debt per se".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndmmO07ckAU
Trump signing executive orders rolling back Obama executive orders is arguably a good thing. Perhaps even a yuuuge thing. Still President, Paul. I expect that will be the case for from three and a half to seven and a half years no matter how many angry leftists march for their tantrum du jour... in fact, more of the marching and angry Dem congresscritters foaming at the mouth would probably make it more likely that Trump wins reelection in 2020.
Posted by: Gregory | 01 May 2017 at 10:17 AM
