A lot of talk lately about how Trump is singlehandly de-nuking N. Korea. Kim Jong-un has only been in power for 5-6 years. This may be the first time Jong-un has dipped his toe into diplomacy with the West.
Un says he will close a nuke site. Maybe it is this one,

this is what I've been saying all along, Trump is a short timer.

I agree with By Victor Davis Hanson wjhen he writes:

"Trump could not cease tweeting, not cease his rallies, not cease his feuding, and not cease his nonstop motion and unbridled speech if he wished to. It is his brand, and such overbearing made Trump, for good or evil, what he is — and will likely eventually banish him from establishment Washington, whether after or during his elected term. His raucousness can be managed, perhaps mitigated for a time — thus the effective tenure of his sober cabinet choices and his chief of staff, the ex–Marine general, no-nonsense John Kelly — but not eliminated. His blunt views cannot really thrive, and indeed can scarcely survive, in the nuance, complexity, and ambiguity of Washington."

Russ

Paul @ 10:59 I will start worrying when there are empty seats in the rally stadiums. It was the deplorable people that put him in power and it will be the same people that removed him if necessary. Watch the rally turnout.

Seems like the loony left has a daily "gotcha" om Trump. Nothing is working except the mindless hate of these liberals. Cracks me up. Trump at 50%.

So much for the same "people" saying Trump would bow out before the election.. That turned out SO well.....

George Rebane

PaulE 1059am - VDH did not say Trump is a short-timer. But he did make the case that Trump is most likely a tragic hero (he definitely is not a Repub or maybe even a conservative), there to clean things up, make some changes, piss off a lot of people in the process, and then ride off into the sunset with everyone agreeing that when his work was done he should go because he did not fit in - i.e. the swamp will re-establish itself. But then again, maybe not everything will revert, and Americans will have the memory of what a renegade will do when it needs to be done. Of course, the Left will do all it can to bury that memory - a task they relish and have already started - 'Party first, and country only if it doesn't hurt the agenda.'

Trump's revenge: U.S. oil floods Europe, hurting OPEC and Russia

MOSCOW/LONDON (Reuters) - As OPEC's efforts to balance the oil market bear fruit, U.S. producers are reaping the benefits - and flooding Europe with a record amount of crude.
Russia paired with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries last year in cutting oil output jointly by 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd), a deal they say has largely rebalanced the market and one that has helped elevate benchmark Brent prices close to four-year highs.
Now, the relatively high prices brought about by that pact, coupled with surging U.S. output, are making it harder to sell Russian, Nigerian and other oil grades in Europe, traders said.
"U.S. oil is on offer everywhere," said a trader with a Mediterranean refiner, who regularly buys Russian and Caspian Sea crude and has recently started purchasing U.S. oil. "It puts local grades under a lot of pressure."

Huh?

Bill Tozer

Now, jon smith, you are really reaching now. Everybody knows that Walt is quite interested in volcanos, as evidenced by his numerous posts for years concerning volcanos and sharing latest eruptions I find them interesting, especially in light the growing body of evidence concerning previously undiscovered underwater active volancos (massively underestimated in number), and grossly underreported affect underwater volancos have on the “melting” Artic icecap, as previously reported here. Much more relavent to a socio-political Sandbox than reporting earthquakes or tsunamis.

Oh, BTW, genius jon, turn off your frogging italics setting. As per normal. You mess it up for everybody else. Mark the tape.

Bill Tozer

“I may be slow, but it's only Monday.”

Ha, I used to know a painter whose punch line was, “I may be slow, but I sure am sloppy.”

I happened to get stranded when St. Helen’s blew (not fun) and was stuck working on that hell hole Big Island on top of Mauna Kea when Mauna Lao erupted for the first time in 50 or so years. Pissed me off cause CBS came in and rented every chopter on The Island, which means I had to drive that long slow road up to the top of Mauna Kea to finish the job, albeit the Mauna Lao eruption was quite uneventful. The lava took its sweet time moving 3-7 mph. Yawn.
While there, and being who I was at the time (a legend in my own mind), I was allowed to go down in the areas closed to the public in Kīlauea and walk carefully around. I made it just a few minutes when this big blast of hot sulfur gas hit me in the nostrils.

Gawd, I was never so glad to get out of that wasteland and get back to America in my life. Vacationer’s dream or working man’s nightmare. One man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Walt, lay that volcano news on me. Oh yeah, I was up on a mountain in Ecuador about 7 years ago when that thing started shaking and spewing and throwing hunks of ice and rocks. 30 villagers died a few days after that wonderful experience, so I headed up to the safer Columbia hill country jungles, home to the rebels. :)

Yeti is in full damage control.
http://smokeroom.com/2018/04/23/yeti-nra-statement/

I'll make it simple for our LIBS. (poor cognitive skills)
The NRA stated this.
"Suddenly, without prior notice, YETI has declined to do business with The NRA Foundation saying they no longer wish to be an NRA vendor, and refused to say why. They will only say they will no longer sell products to The NRA Foundation."

Yeti says this
A few weeks ago, Yeti notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, Yeti explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20."

I doubt vary much the NRA misunderstood.

I bet Yeti is getting hammered.
Let it be a warning to anti 2ND Amend. wusses.

Concerning VHD’s excellent piece to start this Sandbox, I have been surprised (shocked) that he is held in high reverence and esteem by some of the most unlikely 30something crowd I have come across. Article is worth reading twice, be you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Deplorable (the party of Donald Trump, President of the United States).

Time warp time.

Dump Trump? (updated 2aug15)

George Rebane

“Columnists from the national (Victor Davis Hanson) to our local (George Boardman) scene have concluded that Donald Trump may actually be hitting a nerve with voters who are sick and tired of politicians side-stepping and mealy-mouthing important issues like the illegal alien influx and crime, immigration policy, and how to deal with a dangerous and failing Mexico. VDH writes ‘Donald Trump and the Fed-up Crowd’, a compelling piece that concludes –

To explain the inexplicable rise of Donald Trump is to calibrate the anger of a fed-up crowd that is enjoying the comeuppance of an elite that never pays for the ramifications of its own ideology. The elite media, whose trademark is fad and cant, writes off the fed-up crowd as naïve and susceptible to demagoguery as the contradictory and hypocritical Trump manipulates their anger. In fact, they probably got it backwards. Trump is a transitory vehicle of the fed-up crowd, a current expression of their distaste for both Democratic and Republican politics, but not an end in and of himself. The fed-up crowd is tired of being demagogued to death by progressives, who brag of “working across the aisle” and “bipartisanship” as they ram through agendas with executive orders, court decisions, and public ridicule. So the fed-ups want other conservative candidates to emulate Trump’s verve, energy, eagerness to speak the unspeakable, and no-holds barred Lee Atwater style — without otherwise beingTrump.”
——————-
Key takeaway: “Trump is a transitory vehicle of the fed-up crowd”, which is why all the predictions that the Establishment R’s would be so embarrassed by Trump they would force him to quit never materialized. He is out there dangling in the wind time and time again, a lone gunslinger....all by his lonesome...... with the fed-up crowd taking down any R that tries. We watch Trump’s back as R’s are watching their backs. The forgotten people shall be forgotten no more. We, just like the “children” protesting gun violence, want someone to listen to us as well. Listen to the children. We demand to be heard, lol.

I was shocked, shocked with mouth agap when very early in the primaries a prominent Dem (Harry Reid?) cautioned that is political suicide to diss Trump supporters. Fatal mistake, he said. And yes, for the fed-up crowd, Trump is the right tool for the right job at the right time, nothing more, nothing less.

Another bit of news... famed Nevada City family man Jeff Pelline is vacationing alone in Hawai'i ... but it's all good, he even calls home so he can help his kid with homework every night. His high school aged kid.

Anyone here have their dad help them with homework ever in high school? I will say I kinda helped my kid once, when he was studying AP Chemistry as a sophomore, catching up on reading after a choir trip. My son in an exasperated tone asked what was really a rhetorical question, "What the h*** is 'Ksp'?" and without a stumble I said "It's a solubility constant"... he calmed right down, found the section where it was introduced and said something like "wow, you really did take this stuff before". Here is a little bed time snack with a side of rancid Russian dressing-

Obama Justice Dept.’s attempts to influence investigations exposed in McCabe probe

Tucked inside the inspector general’s report on former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was the story of an August 2016 phone call from a high-ranking Justice Department official who Mr. McCabe thought was trying to shut down the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was running for president.
The official was “very pissed off” at the FBI, the report says, and demanded to know why the FBI was still pursuing the Clinton Foundation when the Justice Department considered the case dormant.
Former FBI officials said the fact that a call was made is even more stunning than its content.
James Wedick, who conducted corruption investigations at the bureau, said he never fielded a call from the Justice Department about any of his cases during 35 years there. He said it suggested interference.

Trump 2020

Generally seen as underwater, below the surface things are very different for Trump. President Trump elicits strong reactions from two-thirds of America’s electorate. Yet among the one-third in neither camp, the president is quietly doing quite well.

Rasmussen’s 4/16 daily tracking poll, the same polling closest to 2016’s popular vote, gave interesting insight into President Trump’s support. Overall, Trump’s job approval rating was 51 percent (48 percent disapproval). Among the hardcore, his strong support was 35 percent; his strong disapproval: 39 percent.

On the surface, these results are unexciting… until compared to 2016’s actual results. In 2016, Trump received just 46.1 percent of the popular vote. Rasmussen’s 4/16 results put him five percent ahead of what won him the presidency.

Also, Rasmussen’s 4/16 hardcore results closely mimic 2016 exit polling.

More VDH: Respect Unearned.

“Washington’s self-righteous establishmentarians talk of professionalism when they act unprofessionally. They refer at length to their intellectual and professional pedigrees when they prove incompetent. And they cite their morality and ethics when they possess neither. And then, adding insult to injury, when the public expresses abhorrence at their behavior, they accuse critics of unprofessionalism, a lack of patriotism, or reckless demagoguery.”

jons 1001am - it appears that you haven't been paying attention as to what are the seminal parts of the gun debate. You're arguing a tautology to maximize a utility that is solely a function of expected loss of life in school massacres. But unfortunately, for people driven by anecdotal goads to emotion, that may be a bit too demanding when considering 'gun violence' in terms of broad and long-term social benefit. As I said, we live in different universes.

Walt

Proggys like yellow "jon",, call for "common sense" gun restrictions. Yet refuse to actually say just what those are..
Funny thing about those using the term "common sense",, really don't have any.

Reducing the penalty for using a gun. Such a bright move. Now look who bitches.

re: GeorgeR@10:54AM

A magazine change is only a few seconds (or less if you're good), even with a silly bullet button if you have the right setup.

Truth is, the whole push is from people who aren't shooters, but by golly they have this brilliant idea. Also, it's a thing you can attach a number to and so it seems scientific and all.

The tactics of mass murder in a building full of people are an interesting thing to think about, but I'll skip this one in order to avoid a visit from one of Paul's beloved 17 intelligence agencies.

I was just thinking, if you want to save kids' lives, simply force the texting apps on phones to a)have the GPS turned on and b)turn themselves off if you are moving faster than a fast walk.

jon smith

Despite holding court with polysyllabic word soup, you avoided answering a simple question.

"The kid killed four diners before he had to reload and was stopped by an unarmed hero. Doesn't that make a case for limited rounds?"

Yes, or no?

Walt

No, dipshit.
So without guns,, how will your snowflake spawn take over Ca?
http://www.breitbart.com/california/2018/04/24/calexit-iii-california-independence-advocates-can-collect-signatures/

See that pic.? All the hoodrats with evil guns with BIG magazines!
LIBshits drew up that poster. Can't blame us.(but you will try.)

Marillyn Lock-Heed

,,,jon,,,they can never answer '''yes''' even though that is the obvious answer,,,but they like to say proggies won't listen to reason

,,,#SAD

Walt

So the other coward shows up.
Still not one word on those "common sense" gun laws.
Now go write another bumper sticker.

Gregory

The tag team of Dougie and Mikey, together again.

Of course, smaller magazines make more such opportunities to stop a mass shooter. And the flip side, law abiding people using a gun to defend themselves, won't tell a tale when they run out after 10 rounds and 11 or 12 might have made the difference for them.

George Rebane

jons 1207pm - NO. And we'll do our best to cut down on the polysyllabics for your benefit, even though it does make adult conversation a bit more cumbersome. And Ms Lock still doesn't know how to inject reason into the debate; her approach is interminable repetition of stock answers with no backing - kinda like the building fronts on an old western movie set.

Ricky McVeigh

If fish was here it would ban muslin on all scenery set fronts cause it just make good sense.

Marillyn Lock-Heed

,,,lol,,,talk about,,,'''no reason'''!!! The Answer is NO!!! I guess that you mean you will not elaborate,,,

The NRA echo choir are the ones spouting stock answers,,, not I...

I came to the conclusion logically,,,as I think jon did,,,that a par force show of strength does not require banana clips.

,,,why are hunting shotguns limited to 2 in the magazine and one in the chamber??? There is something else you guys can bitch and whine about...

Gregory imagines Seal Team 6 directed by a tyrannical trumpski is heading up his driveway and expects a long lasting firefight,,,more AMMO!!!

What a HOOT!!!

George Rebane

MarilynnL 235pm - Ms Lock, I hate to say it, and have been holding back for just one more jot of evidence that you now delivered, but I do think your elevator does not go to the top floor - i.e. you are definitely sporting a neurological deficit of major proportions. I have twelve years of reasons on the meaning and disposition of the Second Amendment, most recently in considerable posts on everything from par force through debating the 2nd to summarizing the recent town hall on guns and my participatory remarks. I sincerely believe that you are beyond help, but do serve a useful role as a palpable bookend on the intellectual spectrum of these comment streams. But we would like to have you point us to your 'logic' on par force.

Gregory

Doug Keachie, violently fisting a female sock puppet at 236pm,

No, Doug, 10 shots is not a long firefight, and I had in mind a home invasion robbery by a few stoners, not the Big Red One storming someone's door.

Gregory

Keach, the 2+1 restriction for semiauto and pump shotguns is fish and game law, not safety. Double and sing!e barrel shotguns are still used by hunters.

Hay "jonboy"... Your redheaded stepchild belong to them?
"Another gun control faction, Betsy Riot, describes itself as a “neo-suffragist punk-patriot resistance defending America against Trumpism and metaphorically kicking NRA gunf***ery in the balls.” Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell “debas[ed] democracy” by “Chris Cox-sucking the blood money-jizzing death dick of the NRA,” the group said."

Ain't it just dandy that all the attacks on the NRA have backfired
on epic levels? Those that cave to Progressive demands soon find out they made the wrong choice.
So keep up the fine work Proggys,, your putting votes in OUR ballot boxes.

Elmer Fudd hunted silly wabbits with a shotgun.

N. Korea.

“There is no doubt that apparent concessions by North Korea are in response to punitive sanctions issued last fall and, more recently, to Trump’s tariffs. Trade negotiations between the U.S. and China are indeed about unfair economic practices on the part of Beijing, but they’re also about convincing China to rein in North Korea. Progress may indeed be happening, even if Kim’s announcement is simply meant to keep talks on track for the time being.

Kim surely hopes that some olive branches will do the trick without having to abandon his nuclear program entirely. But one thing we’re fairly confident of: Trump won’t be making any Obama-Iran deals. He won’t win a Nobel Peace Prize either.“

Trump has instituted the tightest sanctions against N Korea in our history.

Boycotts are a legal expression of our speech, but, all in all, I just don’t like them as a general rule of thumb. Puts businesses who are in the business to make a profits in the smack dab in the middle of two warring factions and are forced to pick a side in a fight not of their choosing or making, generally. Banks folding like cheap suits as they bow to the anti gun forces. The squeaky wheel definitely gets the grease.

Glad there is one bank that is just saying “no”, albeit they have been so demonized, vilified, and beat down already, that I reckon they threw up their hands and figured what do they have to lose. No use getting on their good side of the Miserables.

Come on, what’s Wells Fargo without the man riding shotgun?

George, your intro to "par force" was a wasted moment at the so-called town meeting, and no, Keachie has not settled down to logic for the decade I've been noticing him. Catch him in a bald faced lie and it will only slow him down... A couple days and a brand spanking new sock puppet and all is forgotten.

One of the funniest Keachie shows was as a radio show caller, an afternoon KFBK talk show. "Doug from Nevada City" was all over the map and had the on air guy laughing at him, along with the following two or three callers.

He came here and said he "smoked 'em". Doug is as delusional as he needs to be to keep his illusions inflated.

OK. No.

So Dougy made an ass out of his usual self on national radio.
I bet Tom is still kicking him around at the watering hole in NY.
" There was this guy from Nevada City Ca. who called in today,,, you guys know I used to live in Sac.. Yup I have been to Nevada City a time or two, and let me tell ya'... That's one "F"ed up town. And you thought Berkeley was nuts? This Doug guy proved that."

Ya,, Dougy and his dirty socks. Funkstain,,, Lavender,, plenty call him Nate.
The only friend he has on the Daily Caller comment boards is himself.
He's pretty good at posting with three sock puppets at the same time. I give him that much.

Lotsa Orange Hitler, grrrl power, a bit of gratuitous vulgarity, GUNZ-MEAN-YOU-HAVE-A-TINY-DICK.

All from a philosophy that has sprung forth in the last few decades. My best guess is that it results from a lack of meaningful work, soy products, and an excess of plastic/bug spray/lead in the environment. God knows what my father would have thought of these people.

Gregory

scenes, it makes "a case", just not a good one. And there are countering "cases" that represent infringements of the right to own and carry guns.

George Rebane

Gregory 459pm - I have to agree with you, it was wasted on that audience is that format introduced by Judge Tom, an intro that caught me by surprise since I had no idea they wished to discuss guns without bringing in the raison d'etre of half the country. Yeah, in that forum my opening remarks were pissing in the wind, silly me. Nevertheless, I am heartened that I went on record laying out the missed basis for the entire discussion.

scenes

"scenes, it makes "a case", just not a good one."

Good point. There's the semantic difference between 'the case' and 'a case'.

You know, there probably is one shooting in 10,000 (or some other high number) where the time between round 10 and round 11, especially if the shooter fumbles, makes some small difference. Of course, it could be round 9 and 10, or round 20 and 21.

If someone really cared about mass shootings, rather than just furthering a more general set of politics, they'd probably look at the Ft. Hood shootings. Those always struck me as the sort of situations that are the most likely to occur, aside from the inevitable inner-city high school shootings of course.

Gregory

Walt 516pm

It wasn't Tom Sullivan, it was a sub for the day. Speaking of Sullivan, a local pilot named Buzz got on the air today talking about the VA. Great guy. A retired Marine Corp. test pilot. Salt of the earth.

Bill Tozer

“...it makes "a case", just not a good one.” Ok, how about a nutcase.
It’s that time of month again. Aunt Flo is visiting, Aunt Maxie Flo that is.

“70% of women polled say they want Trump impeached.” Sure, whatever you say.
The majority of women voted for Trump in 2016, which is why My Gal is so pissed at those spineless women married to Deplorable types who can’t think for themselves. Obliviously, Hillary has not met our women, but I digress.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JaeQuohDhJM

BTW, that clacking you hear in the background is Aunt Maxie Flo’s ring hitting the table as she is yapping. It’s a big ring. A very expensive big ring.....a gawd awful, ring.

Yep, our women tell us what to. They won’t need no Woman Card. 70%, eh?
