[It's tax season, and those of us who pay taxes are paying huge amounts.  The top 20% of earners pay 87% of the nation's income taxes (see graphic), and a lot, and I do mean a lot more of total taxes when you consider state income taxes for states like California.  More here.  gjr]

Walt- Happy to answer. I didn't personally see any tax cut and my payroll seems to be pretty evenly divided between those who pay more, less, or equal to taxes paid in years past. My guess is that you don't have any employees, don't see real payrolls, and are likely on the government dole and might get to pocket a few extra pennies each month.

The Browning Hi-Power pistol, the last handgun design of John Browning, had from the first a 13 round magazine standard, the first of the 'wonder nines', about equivalent to having two 38 caliber revolvers in shots and rate of fire. Many millions were sold. Glocks were designed to hold 17 rounds. The fixed magazine of the first production semiautomatic, the "Broomhandle" Mauser C96, was 10 but many were made to hold 20 rounds in their fixed (not removable) magazine.

The Mauser, first produced 122 years ago and lauded by Winston Churchill, is immortalized in Star Wars as Han Solo's blaster, which has had the unfortunate effect of collectible C96s in original condition being sold to movie fans who then had them carved up and ugly bits added to look like the movie props.

Keep in mind that magazine restrictions really don't change the rate of fire all that much if you are mayhem oriented and it messes with practically any available magazine fed firearm (I assume you mean removable magazines...a subquestion is whether that restriction applies to fixed magazines).

I'm not sure they even make 10 round magazines for most 9mm handguns or .308 semiauto rifles. The former because there's no advantage and the latter because they are not well supported.

My guess is that the fascination with the number of rounds in a bent sheet metal enclosure is that it's one of the few things that a number can be applied to.

10 is a number. I think it is more acceptable than a one round single shot to the pro gun crowd and more acceptable than a belt fed feature or 60 round clips to the anti gun crowd. I tossed out a number I would personally find reasonable for any target application, and more than legal in many hunting applications. Toss out a number that both sides might agree upon.

As a practical matter, probably 20 (not sure). I'm not familiar with all the handgun sizes.Not that it makes any difference in lethality really. It's definitely more of a nuisance at a range to use small sizes. Reliability suffers they bigger they get in any case...you can argue that you go to a minimum of 40 rounds.

The fewer people you make destroy their stuff, the more that could be nudged over. Not everybody is a 2nd amendment champion so some might be convinced...although at this point I'm not sure. After a year of Trumphate, Team Red is not much for giving in.

The Five-seveN people would be aggrieved, but that's a small group. As an aside, it's worth considering that those are probably optimal for mayhem (used at Ft. Hood). Dunno what the fixation on AR15 pattern rifles is all about.

The AR15 type of rifle uses a system of detachable magazines. 'Clips' are used with rifles such as the SKS. I realize some folks call the detachable mags 'clips' but then that confuses the issue because it doesn't differentiate between a method of holding the ammo in a clip until the ammo is inserted into the fixed magazine vs a separate detachable magazine.
At any rate, my point stands that if you want to stop criminals, go after the criminals and leave the law abiding citizens alone.

A little perspective on the 'trade war' hysteria -

It's not surprising that China's proposed tariffs carry more bark than bite for Boeing. In the very long run, China could potentially reduce its reliance on Boeing aircraft. But for now, there are only two major aircraft manufacturers, and Airbus' popular A320/A320neo family of planes has a backlog of more than 6,000 unfilled orders. That's equivalent to nine years of output, even at the stepped-up production rates currently planned.
In theory, Airbus would love to gain market share in China at Boeing's expense. However, the A320neo family is completely sold out until around 2022. Even beyond then, Airbus would probably be unable to meet all of China's aircraft demand without shortchanging its own loyal customers elsewhere in the world.

Almost 20 factories are being built or expanded to convert gas liquids such as ethane and propane into ethylene, the most used petrochemical and the main ingredient in polyethylene plastic.
Most of the investment is coming from abroad. South Africa’s Sasol Ltd. is spending $11 billion on a chemical complex outside Lake Charles, Louisiana. France’s Total SA, South Korea’s Lotte Chemical Corp. and Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corp. also are investing in U.S. factories.

Super peculiar reasoning:

No matter what side you are in this thing, the tortuous logic required here just shows that the real point is the confiscation of everything over time.

One super clever trick used in Mass. (and California) is to have lists of 'approved' weapons. Everything else is in a kind of legal limbo and given the tendency for DAs to overcharge in an offense, no one wants to take the chance. Over time, you reduce the list. Wash, rinse, repeat. I admire the tactic. Now if we can just get the anti-hate speech laws to really crank up, we can live in a utopia.

Gotta love it. The carve-out for Mini-14 and M1A exists (as usual). Ruger and Springfield have to appreciate this. In general, it just shows the intellectual sparseness of gun control laws.

I was just thinking about unintended consequences with these sorts of approaches A few:

. I can imagine that whole world of straight pull and pump action AR-15s really taking off. They exist already, but there's plenty more room in the ecosystem.
. More interest in shooting for distance...imagine the mayhem that's built into a Ruger Precision Rifle.
. Mass production of black guns that aren't based on a common military design. There are plenty out there. Maybe invent something new.
. More Massachussetts legal Mini-14s that look just like the scarier AR-15 variants.
. More interest in AK47 sporters (like the Saiga) and perhaps a nice looking AR-15 sporter. Esthetes will rejoice. (for Jon: think Mini-14 with AK guts)
. Magazine restrictions resulting in upgrade of size. 7.62 rifles get a new lease on life.
. Magazine restrictions resulting in shrinking of handguns. 10 round maximums lead you to single stack and/or shorter magazine 9mm handguns. Basically pushing the 9mm crowd into concealable weapons.
. Big rimfires come back. In a lot of Green Libertarian states, rimfires are treated differently. Well, they don't have to be .22s

Reading the judges ruling. it seems my AR10 would be legal. It's not considered a weapon of war by definition. The AR15 was the result of downsizing the AR10.(original design)
