WTF!

The President of the European Commission marked the 200th anniversary of the Communist Manifesto author’s birth by opening a series of exhibitions honouring his memory in Trier, and claimed he was not responsible for the actions of his bloodsoaked acolytes — figures including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro, and the Kim dynasty.

Crabbman had a good one in the paper.

https://www.theunion.com/news/r-l-crabb-it-takes-a-village-idiot-268/

We really don’t have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem and the wish list just keeps growing and growing with no end in sight. Think the dollar has been stretched to the breaking point. Everywhere one looks, people are clamoring for their pet projects to get more of that federal and Sacramento greenback-a-dollar coming their way.

Was at the gas pumps the other day and there was a sticker listing all the petro taxes. 27 cents or so to the Feds, 18 cents to the State, a user fee tax, something else, then “approximently 10 cents” for a carbon tax. Gee Wally, I thought the tax two times ago was going to pay for roads and 600,000 homeless abodes. Guess the carbon tax revenues fell short of projections to fund the Brown Streak to Buttonwillows and Moonbeam had to raid the highway taxes to cover the pension shortfalls, lol. This new tax is going for roads...until it too will be raided to cover the pensions and salaries and help pay for the slow train wreck to nowhere....and of course, the General Fund needs a little help...which always finds a way to come not covering everything promised. Nothing a new tax wouldn’t fix...unless you are a crumbling bridge.

What, me worry?

Paul@2:35PM

That strikes me as too general a question. My guess is that you could make an entire career out of studying the history and rules covering classified materials, executive orders, regulations on investigations...and that probably more than a few of those may not make it through a serious court vetting. That's a long-winded way of saying I don't know.

My gut feeling, if I were to write a Constitution, is that the DOJ should be under direct control of the President and subject to Congressional investigations with no limit. The Congress would have no control, but simply the ability to impeach a President. Having said that, I'm not sure how you avoid endless politically-motivated investigations or leaks for political purposes.

I believe that the DOJ is largely a post Civil War construction, and the way it has metastasized is a good proxy, along with foreign wars and the welfare state, for how the US has evolved into it's present condition. Once a law enforcement/surveillance organization has grown this powerful, it is bound to become it's own power center or be too powerful a tool to not use or both.

In the latest poll by the Polling Company, a majority, 52 percent, of swing-voters said they wanted the 250,000 visas allotted to “chain migrants” — the foreign relatives of newly naturalized citizens — eliminated altogether rather than handed over to businesses to allow them to import an additional flood of foreign workers.

Oh well, why not pile on the po' ol' pollhead -

The spike in apparent support leaves Trump with 57 percent support on the economy, 60 percent support on employment and jobs, 51 percent support on immigration, although he gets only 43 percent on the high-priority issue of healthcare. The poll did not ask about the success of Trump’s efforts to raise wages.

Say - here's a new way to ease the housing shortage in Kali.
https://www.engadget.com/2018/05/06/california-to-require-solar-panels-on-most-new-homes/
Money quote - "The new standards are poised to hike construction costs by $25,000 to $30,000 (about half of which is directly due to solar), but the self-produced energy is estimated to save owners $50,000 to $60,000 in operating costs over the solar technology's expected 25-year lifespan."
Typical greenie hum bug. The 'costs' go up by $25k to $30k. Whose costs? The developer? Add a percentage on top of that to the buyer and then there's that mortgage thingie. And because the house is now 'worth' more, the taxes, insurance and maintenance costs go up. The mortgage runs for typically 30 years, but by then your solar panels have crapped out and you're facing a huge replacement cost and you are still paying for the original system now in the junk yard. Pretty cool, huh?
Banks make more money - govt collects more taxes - the developer makes more money - you have to earn more money and then pay higher income taxes as well as higher prop taxes.
But think of all the money the Chinese solar panel manufacturers are making!
The homeless in Kali are cheering!

More room for educating our kids -

Visas for international students have dropped more than 15 percent under President Donald Trump’s economic nationalist agenda as his key executive order known as “Buy American, Hire American” has taken center stage.
A new report by Axios’s Stef Kight reveals that visas for international students declined 17 percent in 2017 during Trump’s first year in office. For Chinese students, visas dropped nearly 25 percent, and for Indian students, visas dropped nearly 30 percent.

Interesting, I'd never heard of it. If nothing else it'll drive up the value of used houses slightly.

Assuming that solar panels are net energy producers and that they can be profitable, what is the advantage of sticking them on house roofs? It seems to me that taking a couple of acres here and there and filling it with panels would give a cheaper and easier to maintain result. I suppose the beauty of this solution is that you push the cost onto home owners rather than PGE.

Does anyone really have broad band up in here? I had real hi speed back in the day before I met my strong lady. I am tired of the lies that anyone is going to make it happen soon. How much money did those flashy guys suck up with nothing to show for us?

Among the pressing issues facing our county, economic development and high-speed internet are strongly linked.
To attract new businesses that align with our treasured rural environment, and to support small and home-based businesses, we must have wider access to broadband — as well as net neutrality. Indeed, 54 percent of businesses here are home-based, and 70 percent of small businesses are owned and operated by a single person. I'm one of those "solopreneurs" and as a freelance writer and editor, I would not be able to earn my living without broadband access.

The Logan Act? What a bunch of hooey. It’s probably unconstitutional, but the uninformed Popinjay is our resident expert on the Act.

“Democrats wanted to hang former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn out to dry for supposedly violating the Logan Act, a 1799 law that prohibits private citizens from conducting unauthorized foreign policy, because Flynn had conversations with Russians during the transition into power for the Trump administration. Of course, they’re silent on Kerry. No one has ever been prosecuted under the Logan Act, but Kerry’s “shadow diplomacy” is serious — he’s actively working to undermine the current administration to save a horrible deal in which he has a personal stake......
.
It’s arguably treason, and if anyone knows how to get away with treason, it’s John Kerry, who negotiated with the North Vietnamese in 1970, giving aid and comfort to the enemy at a time of open war. He then delivered communist propaganda and slander of American troops in congressional testimony. For nearly 50 years, Kerry has been a disgrace to his country and it’s well past time he faced the consequences.”

“Happy 200th Birthday Karl Marx! You believed that everyone should have a seat at the table & that the greed of the rich would eventually bring us all down. You believed that everyone deserves a slice of the pie. You knew that the super wealthy were out to grab whatever they could.” —capitalist beneficiary Michael Moore

I did not vote for That woman either.

“The most qualified person running was a woman, and look what we did instead. I mean, that says something about where we are. If we as women are still suspicious of one another; if we still have this crazy, crazy bar for each other that we don’t have for men; if we’re not comfortable with the notion that a woman could be our president … then we have to have those conversations with ourselves as women.” —Michelle Obama lamenting that women didn’t line up to vote for the woman

Thanks, Obama? “I think we have to look at it over a longer horizon than [Trump’s time in office]. If you think about what the economy was like when President Obama took office, we were losing 750,000 jobs a month. Under his watch the unemployment rate dropped in half and it’s encouraging to see that we’re continuing to make progress.” —Valerie Jarrett belittling the Trump economy

Race bait:
“[Trump is] certainly racist-adjacent. If you have the evidence that shows you, that leads you to nothing else but this president being racist, then I feel it’s my obligation as a journalist to say it.” —CNN’s Don Lemon

Will Rosie the Pig Riveter spend time in prison? I remember D’Souza was a rising star when they cut his legs out from under him. They had a way of doing that under Obama and the ‘most transparent administration in history.’ It’s only fair that they put Rosie away.

“It seems clear, from what we know, that Rosie broke the law and she broke the law five times," D'Souza said.

"What makes it particularly sneaky on her part is that she used four different names and five different addresses. It seems clear that she knew what she was doing and she tried to cover her tracks, " D'Souza added.

Filings show O’Donnell gave a combined $5,400 in contributions over the limit to the five candidates, and used five different New York addresses and four variations of her name, the Post reported.

D'Souza was charged in 2014 for making a $20,000 contribution to Wendy Long's senate run. He served five years probation and eight months in a confinement center. He was also fined $30,000.

The “highly concerned” cluster was “most supportive of government climate policies, but least likely to report individual-level actions, whereas the ‘Skeptical’ opposed policy solutions but were most likely to report engaging in individual-level pro-environmental behaviors,” the researchers concluded.
Conducting the study, entitled “Believing in climate change but not behaving sustainably,” were Cornell assistant professor Neil A. Lewis Jr. and University of Michigan researchers Michael P. Hall and Phoebe C. Ellsworth.
The skeptics were the more likely than the “highly concerned” to recycle, use public transportation and reusable shopping bags, and buy eco-friendly products.

John McCain’s point of view.

McCain, in his book, reiterated a central criticism: “Chris had asked the State Department for more security for the Benghazi mission [before the attack], but it had been denied.”

McCain said he was “terribly saddened” by the news, but “wasn’t angry with the administration” -- at first.

“I started to get angry when it appeared administration officials were knowingly misleading us about the attack, attributing it to a video that some idiot had made mocking Islam that incited a spontaneous mob that turned violent,” McCain wrote. “It took more than a week for the White House to acknowledge it had been a planned terrorist attack. The uproar that ensued became a lasting political controversy that’s still debated.”

In the end, all it established is what could have been presumed at the beginning, bureaucratic incompetence and a-- covering, two common conditions in Washington,” McCain wrote. “Anger subsides, politics moves on, but sadness remains. Chris Stevens deserved better from all of us.”

He got that one right. 1 out of 3 ain’t bad.

DB at 8:33 - re the Keith Ellison tee shirt (and many others of the same ilk) - it continues to amaze me how stupid people are. No borders? Really? Have you consulted Canada and Mexico about that? Have any reporters ever, ever asked about the fact that there are 2 countries on the sides of these borders we're supposed to get rid of and just exactly what do these other sovereign countries have to say about it? You can not 'get rid of' a border without it affecting the flow of people and goods both ways.
Like all good left wing slogans, it's a pile of bull shit. Like 'reproductive rights'. I don't care what you think about abortion, but please explain what is 'reproductive' about that procedure. 'Climate change denial' is another one. Who is denying climate change? No one. No more borders? Really? Excuse me, but there were only 2 people involved that knew what was happening and had the ability and authority to do something about it.

Then they cooked up a total lie and did everything they could to sell that lie repeatedly.
There is no debate. We have the first hand account of the men at the scene fighting for their lives in direct communication with their superiors telling them exactly what is happening. They were abandoned by our commander in chief.

Who said the Presidents economic policy is not having an impact -

The federal government took in a record tax haul in April en route to its biggest-ever monthly budget surplus, the Congressional Budget Office said, as a surging economy left Americans with more money in their paychecks — and this more to pay to Uncle Sam.
All told the government collected $515 billion and spent $297 billion, for a total monthly surplus of $218 billion. That swamped the previous monthly record of $190 billion, set in 2001.

Comrade Bernie needs to high tail it down to his paradise before everyone has fled -

The shortage of troops comes as hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans flee a societal collapse, crowding cities and makeshift camps throughout the region in the largest mass emigration in modern Latin American history. Hyperinflation has made the currency virtually worthless, and malnutrition is endemic. Almost 2 million Venezuelans are living outside the country.

High-ranking members of the military are barred from much contact with the lower ranks . Lines of young military men asking for retirement are long, said the first retired officer. The officer tried to chat with one, but officers running the barracks forbade them from talking to each other. The retiree said top officers fear too much conversation will permit officers and enlisted solders to form alliances for a coup.

How much do you want to bet those 2 million expats show up as having voted in person in Caracas, you know like Chicago?

A good read on “cultural Marxism”....vs classic Marxism. Too many nuggets to post, so here is a couple.

Thus, a cultural Marxist like Angela Davis — mentored by Herbert Marcuse — could stand at the Women’s March before a sea of young women in pink hats and recite a litany of popular grievances. In her casting about for victim groups, the former Communist Bloc cheerleader hailed Chelsea Manning, “trans women of color,” “our flora and fauna,” and “intersectional feminism,” and denounced “white male hetero-patriarchy,” misogyny, Islamophobia, and capitalist exploitation.

This is where today’s Marxists in America are toiling hard. They are working diligently on the cultural front. That’s where they are confident they can finally take down Western civilization and its Judeo-Christian bedrock.

and

In closing, consider this striking new term I recently encountered when perusing the latest “About” section of the website of People’s World, successor to the Soviet-funded Daily Worker and the leading mouthpiece of American communism. It singled out a label I hadn’t heard before: “cultural workers.” It states: “Today, People’s World offers a daily news platform for the broad labor-led people’s movement — a voice for workers, the unemployed, people of color, immigrants, women, youth, seniors, LGBTQ people, cultural workers, students and people with disabilities.”

They’re looking not for factory workers but for cultural workers. Forget the factory floor — that project failed long ago. Communists tried to organize the steelworkers, the autoworkers, the teamsters, the coalminers. It didn’t work.

BillT@11:05 The patriotpost article is actually pretty good.

I've never been much of a student of Marxism, although as a religion it's done darned well. It's always so hard to find straightforward words on things like that instead of wall-to-wall POV.

I'll grind through a few of these to get the flavor of the thing.
https://www.marxists.org/archive/gramsci/prison_notebooks/selections.htm

It wouldn't surprise me if the roots of cultural Marxism are simply in the experience of the Russian Civil War. The Bolsheviks had a heckuva time convincing the non-urban working class and peasants to do much of anything, the latter were mostly land hungry but didn't need outsiders running their affairs. Of course, after the Whites were defeated (not an impossible task given the holding of Moscow and other urban centers, interior lines, and and facing an enemy who couldn't decide on a single philosophy), there was plenty of opportunity to get those pesky (and often non-Russian) rural people to behave, although I'm not sure that they liked it.

So, in Russia, it was never enough to get the countryside to join up by merely handing out a bit of land, there wasn't an emotional attachment to the center. It sounds like somebody got smart and thought through the implications of reprogramming a peoples' emotional ties to groups. Schools, media, non-profits, even churches are a pretty good bet.

The Inion's back page was a list of all the extremist lefties of Nevada County and elsewhere. All in support of Hodge. If she wins Nevada County is toast and we can put the USSR's old flag up to be safe.

Todd Juvinall

And we see the New York AG democrat accused of beating up women. You cannot make this stuff up. And he was the lead dog chasing Trump in regards to sex.

Robert Cross

"Nevada County is toast and we can put the USSR's old flag up to be safe." Can you get any more stupid? The Cold War ended decades ago, Todd. Your 'commie baiting' comments have the ring and intellect of a 4th grader from the 1950's.

Walt

Progressivism is just a kinder, gentler form of Commieism,,, right Bobby? Or would you prefer the Chinese RED star?( The Calif. flag already has a head start.) The Proggys these days are already coming out of the Socialist closet... You DO realize, one of those "S"'s in USSR stands for "Socilist",,, don't you?

You seem to be trying to date Alice and run down the rabbit hole with her. Are you that stupid that you can't accept your ilk's attempts to take America down the "progressive" commie path? I suggest you go read about Red China, North Korea, and Cuba and then get back to us with your results. My goodness, you have to be the result of a public education. Always dumb all the time.

How do I contact Mueller? I think I've found the Russian connection.

My daughter, who works in Beijing, went to the airport recently to pick up a friend. As she walked past the Aeroflot Airlines boarding area, she came across three Russian-speaking guys who were wearing Trump tee shirts! One even had a MAGA hat!

M

,,,you are right George, the local chapter of the League of Pale Faces here are an astounding association of 1950s thought!!!

M 1111am ... isn't "M" a reference to a pedophile and child murderer played by Peter Lorre? An early 'talkie' in German, directed by Fritz Lang? I can almost hear Keachie whistling "In the Hall of the Mountain King" reading his work here.

As an aside, there's a scene where a handful of mobsters are waiting for their leader (as opposed to lieder) to start their chat (their business had been all but shut down by the police actions looking for M). Said leader was described as the "bestest Mann" from Berlin to 'Frisco... that even prewar German audiences were familiar with the diminutive for Baghdad by the Bay puts a lie to the modern day language nannies.

Frisco will outlive Caen's memory.

Does a single nation (even a small handful of nations) placing an embargo on Iran make any sense? Are they going to "feel the pain?" when they can bank just about anywhere in the world and sell every drop of oil it produces? This looks more like a bully chance to destroy an Obama accomplishment than it seems in any way strategic. The trade war isn't looking so keen and neither does this.

Gentlemen - The Schneiderman thread should be under '21st Century Progressive Dating ...'

Iran deal: even though Iran can sell its oil 'anywhere', it cannot buy the stuff needed to operate a modern nation 'anywhere'. That's where the sanctions come in - to hinder its ability to buy sophisticated parts, equipments, software systems, etc from suppliers who are almost always located in developed nations. And anyone, especially the UN and our progressives, believing that Obama's agreement stopped Iran's progress toward ICBM deliverable nukes, is a prime candidate to take title to the Brooklyn Bridge.

"The Iran deal cemented with a pallet load of cash". You sure got your finger on the pulse, or maybe you are so brainwashed by Brietbart that you actually believe that. Sad.

Walt

Not just a "pallet"... A plane load or two Lil'"jon".

Now CA. is out to finish health care in this state once and for all.
http://www.breitbart.com/california/2018/05/08/california-labor-backed-bill-to-socialize-healthcare-costs-advances/
" the bill is a recipe for disaster. CHA estimates the bill would make 60 percent of California hospitals unprofitable by slashing $18 billion of annual revenue. The CHA estimates 175,000 healthcare workers could lose their jobs."

And you think Lil'"jon" is whining now?

Walt

Lil' "jon" needs a little help.
http://fortune.com/2016/09/07/us-iran-billion-hostages-arms-deal/
"The controversial $400 million payment that the U.S. sent to Iran in January, just as four American hostages were released—a planeload of Euros, Swiss Francs and other currencies—was only the first of three American cash deliveries to the country, the Obama administration reportedly told lawmakers on Tuesday.

During the 19 days following the first shipment, the U.S. sent two more planeloads of cash, totaling $1.3 billion, to Tehran, reports The Wall Street Journal. The two planeloads, which passed through Europe on Jan. 22 and Feb. 5, followed the same route as the earlier payment, a congressional aide who was briefed told the Journal. In the first payment, an Iranian cargo plane picked up the money in Geneva."

I guess "jon" believes it was just fake news.

Walt is correct, it was multiple pallets of cash in a couple of deliveries.$1.7 billion in various currencies.

Gregory

"jon"

You were wrong. Sad, indeed.

Walt@12:54

Thanks, first I've heard of that bill.

I whiled away a few moments looking for information on government-mandated healthcare costs. I can rather understand the push to do it given the broken free market that a lot of healthcare is mired in, in some ways it's like the free market that PGE or Waste Management is involved in.

Evidently it was a more common idea than I had thought, tried in a bunch of states, and usually thrown away over time. As a general theory on those matters, my guess is that even a well-intentioned law (and the following commission and 10M pages of regs) results in something that is heavily gamed into weird results. One thing that is always bound to happen is that the government is going to somehow try to pass on the health cost for poor people (and illegal aliens) onto the health users and providers rather than out of a general fund.

Todd Juvinall

jonnieSmith never knew Obama and Keyy delivered 1.7 billion in cash to the Mullahs? And it was in different currencies as I recall. JonnieS must be brain dead then. It was all over the news when it took place. Now we know he is a moron and ill-informed as well.

Walt

Well Scenes,, I have to drive to Reno for any medical issues.
I just might be better off than most. The VA is only a year or two out of civil war medicine standards. Ca. is about to dive back to "dark ages" brand of healthcare. Blood letting and a box of leaches.

jonnieSmith is a moron and uninformed. Obama and Kerry had 1.7 billion in cash delivered in the dead of night and then released the frozen assets of the Iranians to the tune of 150 billion. JonnieS, now do you get it?
