A nation ignorant and free, that never was and never shall be. Thomas Jefferson
George Rebane
Nothing in recent memory highlights the dumbing of the American mind like today’s hysteria about separating kids from adults (parents or coyotes) who criminally enter the United States. Led by the Left, our news media, both lamestream and conservative, have now started supporting the narrative that such separation from illegal alien adults taken into custody is something new, unique, inhuman, permanently damaging, and not the American way. In reality nothing could be further from the truth. America has never jailed kids with adults in whose custody they were at the time of incarceration. We have always separated the kids and put them into appropriate care institutions until they could be reunited with parents, relatives, or placed with other legal guardians.
Today the insane notion has spread across the land, a diaspora of the belief that somehow illegal aliens who criminally enter our country deserve special treatment that is not now and never has been afforded American citizens. Our laws, and especially border security laws, have always called for equal separation of alien children brought illegally and surreptitiously into the country by criminal adults who have been arrested and taken into custody. Here’s a letter in the 25jun18 WSJ from a defense attorney that reinforces what I introduced on these pages in ‘Separating kids from parents’.
Regarding your editorial “The GOP’s Immigration Meltdown” (June 19): I am a criminal defense attorney and can say with confidence that hundreds, if not thousands, of parents and their minor children are separated in this country every day by the criminal justice system. What was happening at our southern border is routine.
It is not uncommon for criminal defendants to bring their minor children to court with them for bail hearings, revocation of bail hearings, revocation of probation hearings and sentencing hearings. Perhaps they think that the presence of their children will influence the judge. It has been my experience that it will not.
If a criminal defendant is denied bail, has his bail revoked (as Paul Manafort recently experienced), has his probation revoked or is sentenced to prison, he will be taken into custody and, by definition, separated from his children (the children don’t accompany the defendant to prison). If a family member or other guardian isn’t present to take the children, the children will be taken by a state agency that is charged with caring for children who have no adult to care for them.
Illegally entering the U.S. is, by definition, a crime. If the parent is taken into custody by law enforcement for the crime of illegally entering the U.S., that parent will be separated from his minor children, just as any other criminal defendant in the examples above.
As an attorney, I don’t understand the current outrage. Parents have been separated, are being separated and will continue to be separated from their minor children by the criminal justice system. Why should there be an exception for noncitizens who have been arrested for the crime of illegally entering the U.S.? As far as I know, there is no exception for any other crime.
Ivars Lacis, Peachtree City, Ga.
The diaspora of this anti-American insanity was further expanded on and put into the context of an ongoing broader leftwing agenda in ‘The Existential Abrogation of Sovereignty’. What I want to emphasize here is that more centrist and conservative media outlets have fallen in line, putting out news items about separating kids that do nothing to dispel the lies that 1) the whole policy was started by Trump, and 2) that such separations are unique to entering illegal aliens, who have been converted simply into “immigrants” no longer adorned with even the mildly clarifying modifiers of ‘undocumented’ or ‘illegal’.
And the under-educated of the land are lapping it up with manufactured visions of such huddled masses, as in days of yore, gathered at the foot of the Statue of Liberty demanding to be allowed entry simply because they and their neighbors have lost their native countries to criminals and corruptions. All this time the alt-Left Democrats are also telling Americans what a horrible land the United States is, and no one has the ability to see the disconnect between that argument and the existential confusion at our borders where more than 1,000 illegals daily risk life and limb to enter.
The unexamined bottom line in the public forum, and now the proclaimed policy of the Democratic Party is that America should welcome one and all from across the world who illegally cross our borders with the complaint that they want, nay, demand a better economic future. Promoting such open borders and automatic amnesty is the surest way for us to lose our national sovereignty and speed up our departure from the America that for the last two centuries has served as the gold standard of governance.
One piece of the puzzle: The Left Wing Industrial Media Complex:
The media is doing a great disservice to the American public. They do not know immigration law. They do not know the difference between a refugee and an aslymn petitioner. They are so uniformed and choose to remain so. Nor to they wish to inform the public of the ins and outs of US immigration law.
It is against the law for me to swim across the Rio Grande or forge across the glacier fed rivers up north to enter the USA. It’s against the law for any US citizen or any person to enter the Unites States at some place other than a designated point of entry.
It is legal to catch any illegal Mexican National crossing the border (with or without family) and deport them on the spot. That’s the way it is and has been for years. Abutting nation, shared border, adjoining nation immigration laws. There are immigration laws designed specially for OTMs (other than Mexicans), and as seen all over the news lately, applying to Central Americans. There are laws governing where to apply for asylum for OTMs. If you hail from Guatemala and are in route, that place would be Mexico, assuming you are heading north into the USA. There are places to apply for asylum in your home country....to start the process to apply for a VISA and keep the family safe and intact while waiting. There are loopholes and complexities.
Yet, the media chooses to ignore telling its viewers this, choosing to keep the viewers ignorant and in the dark.
And yes, it’s a waste of time to point out that 700,000 servicemen and women are separated from their families today.

re BillT 1149am - Now I wonder, what are some of the plausible reasons that the lamestream does not "wish to inform the public of the ins and outs of US immigration law." Considering this is the real issue here, because the relevant "ins and outs" are not complex, especially pointing out that such separations have occurred for both Americans and aliens for decades.

The leading lights of the left fail over and over in their lying narratives but the dummies don't know the difference.
It is bad enough that the magazine outright reported on an event that didn’t actually happen. But Time’s cover adds another layer of media malpractice to the whole thing. In effect, the magazine is exploiting the tears of a little girl in order to drive home a political point; it is tricking readers into thinking a photograph is depicting something that objectively it is not.
In other contexts, this tactic would have been roundly condemned. By way of example, several years ago, when pro-life activist David Daleiden used some stock footage of a stillborn baby to illustrate an abortion worker’s claims, the news media had a feeding frenzy over it. The Washington Post, CNN, ThinkProgress and other outlets were quick to point it out. Nobody likes to be fooled.
Not to be outdone, The Associated Press last week published a bombshell report on a civil rights lawsuit brought by numerous immigrant children. They were allegedly held at a detention center in Virginia and subjected to brutal abuse, including being “beaten while handcuffed and locked up for long periods in solitary confinement, left nude and shivering in concrete cells.”
The allegations are horrifying. What was surprising, however, was the way the article framed them. In the original report, which has since been amended online, readers had to make it through more than 20 paragraphs before learning that most of the alleged abuse took place under the Obama administration.

The deplorables ain't taking it anymore -
CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta was met with jeers ahead of President Donald Trump’s rally with South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on Monday evening.
Attendees of the event chanted “Go home, Jim!” at Acosta, as one man held up a sign that read “CNN Sucks.”

Quotes
“Without a doubt the images, and the reality, from 2014, just like 2018, are not pretty. And so we expanded family detention. … I freely admit it was controversial. We believed it was necessary at the time. I still believe it is necessary to remain a certain capability for families.” —Obama DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson
“We cannot have a system of catch and release. We are a sovereign nation. We have to secure our borders. And so we just simply cannot have a situation where people are apprehended, they’re released, they don’t return to court, and they know they’re able to do that.” —Jeh Johnson
Do as I say, not as I do: “Are we a nation that accepts the cruelty of ripping children from their parents’ arms, or are we a nation that values families and works to keep them together? Do we look away, or do we choose to see something of ourselves and our children?” —Barack Obama
Dezinformatsiya: “The June 12 photograph of the 2-year-old Honduran girl became the most visible symbol of the ongoing immigration debate in America for a reason. Under the policy enforced by the administration, prior to its reversal this week, those who crossed the border illegally were criminally prosecuted, which in turn resulted in the separation of children and parents. Our cover and our reporting capture the stakes of this moment.” —a Time magazine spokesman defending the rag’s phony cover photoshop
“In our country, there are 2.7 million children separated from parents who are currently incarcerated in American prisons. Their story is not less worthy of notice. One in nine black children has a parent in prison. Is that inequality not sympathetic enough? And what about children who are separated from their parents by illness, death, or economic troubles?” —Rev. William Owens

Here's the latest outrage from the McClatchy News Service.
http://www.sacbee.com/opinion/california-forum/article213722049.html
Big, tear jerking headline - "Meet a local immigrant family. They’re legal, and Trump still split them up."
Next, we read - 'And the First Lady visits children taken by the government while wearing an “I don’t care” jacket.'
Actually - she didn't - but what are facts to folks out to froth at the mouth about everything anybody named Trump does?
That poor, poor, family that was 'split up'? Oh yeah - some little detail about not showing up for his immigration hearings and oh yeah, 4 (count 'em) FOUR DUIs. That's exactly the kind of diverse, vibrant addition to our society we just can't live with out. And remember folks, this is all from an opinion piece that is supposed to make us feel really, really angry at Trump. Waiting for the lefties to chime in here. Waiting, waiting, waiting.....

But she is a child! You can’t deport her.
Well, we are a nation of laws. She had no prior contact with ICE, which means she did not submit a DACA application. But, but, but she is mentally slow. Slow or not, they found a shotgun in her home, a big no-no. No illegal alien can have access to a firearm, minor or adult. But, but, but......

From Business Insider
How low can we go:
"The officers say, 'I'm going to take your child to get bathed' — that's one we see again and again," Chandler said. After the parent asks about their child, agents have said "This is a long bath", or "you won't be seeing your child again", she added.
Who should be held responsible for this disgusting behavior and should they be able to keep their job ?

Punchy 1017pm
Why do you care, you're not committing misdemeanors or felonies while caring for a minor child?
Posted by: Gregory | 29 June 2018 at 02:27 PM
toes 215pm
Yes... and connecting the dots, as a past deportee having crossed the border illegally, the mother of that 2 year old was committing a FELONY.

Kinda of topic. Obama era whistle blower addresses unaccomplied minors. Heck,, do we even know that these “babies” are separated from the real mothers? A father was just separated from his daughter because the father had a prior conviction for rape....in the USA. Do we release dad into the US? No. Do we try to place child with relatives in the US? Do we send them both back? What a mess.
The most humane method is to deport back them as a family.

The Diaspora of Dumbth in America
Quip of the day from a former government official remarking on the protesters occupying ICE buildings:
“Why are they protesting ICE? It’s the Border Patrol that is seperating mothers from children [at the border]”

Garza said some of the separations are likely to continue, despite the executive order, because some of the children aren’t related to the adults purporting to be their parents. Some cartels, he said, will sneak across the border by pretending to be families

Garza did not have specific numbers about how many children may have been recruitedby drug cartels.
Each day, agents confiscate mass amounts of drugs along the border -- drugs that could kill people in the U.S., he said.
“They’re focusing on this issue with families, but they’re not focusing on the fentanyl, the cocaine and all these dangerous drugs that are killing our kids in this country,” he said. “Those are the drugs we need to stop.”
