Made a comment or two on SFgate about the fire issue... They sure don't like their Frisco ECO values blamed for the Armageddon.
Their anti logging stance, and "pretty" is more important than fire danger sure drew plenty of flack. They also think they know more than farmers, yet never setting foot on a farm.

Trumps unnformed and vicious attack on California is being blasted by firefighters who are on the front lines

"Brian K. Rice, the president of the California Professional Firefighters, criticized President Trump on Saturday after he threatened to withhold federal payments to the state, claiming its forest management is "so poor." The president made the comments as the state is battling multiple deadly wildfires.

"The president's message attacking California and threatening to withhold aid to the victims of the cataclysmic fires is ill-informed, ill-timed and demeaning to those who are suffering as well as the men and women on the front lines," Brian K. Rice said in a statement.

"Wildfires are sparked and spread not only in forested areas but in populated areas and open fields fueled by parched vegetation, high winds, low humidity and geography," Rice said."

Can't form words of your own Paul?
Trump is right. The ECO bastards have been running the show in the forests. The LIBshits even fight to stop dead tree removal, and the excuse is it contributes to AGW.
How long ago was the local COGEN plant OKed?
The same ECO pricks don't want ANY thinning.
Your a local "news guy"( so we are told) miss the news on the people threatening tree trimming crews?

Not a bit different than those fighting the HY 174 fix. Trees are more important than people's lives.

Todd Juvinall

Trump did not diss the firefighters and ot appears contrived so I dismiss their yapping. The eco's have wrecked the forests. Having been intricately involved in the Tahoe Forest Management Plans it was quite obvious what the eco's and bureaucrats were doing. Now we are all paying the piper. I get a kick out of the fact that the eco's and their mouthpieces like Paul Emery "saved" the Northern Spotted Owl and now they are fried. As well as food for the bigger owls in the forests.

Hey Walt how did you get to comment on the SF Gate?

Todd Juvinall

SACBEE has an article lamenting the non passge of the water bond after all had been passed over the last 30 years. I think the people saw the folly of giving te government all those billions and nothing of consequence has taken place. And they stole a lot of it. Mainly the water bond money goes to eco groups via grants that end up as paying protestors to new dams and water projects. The people have wised up about that.

Walt

200 “political scientists” of what ideological ilk?? And since when was politics or even the study of politics a science?

From an above comment by a professional firefighter, it appears that just because wildfires also start near developed areas in unforested regions, it is therefore improper to point out that many more of them start in mismanaged forests. And doing so is somehow “dissing” the firefighters. What kind of a mental giant does it take to assemble thoughts like that?

And when was the last time that we in California saw the firefighting industry put on a full court press to change the fundamental legal framework that would support prescribed burns? Nothing but years of silence. It’s almost as if that industry doesn’t want to diminish its obvious raison d’etre. Nah!

Respectlessly George, you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground when you say, "...when was the last time that we in California saw the firefighting industry put on a full court press to change the fundamental legal framework that would support prescribed burns? Nothing but years of silence."

There are thousands of people working across the state to address just that issue...getting to a forest management regime that can re-introduce fire...and they actually know what the hell they are talking about. I know a lot of them...they read the science.

This entire knee jerk discussion about wildfire here is amongst the the most ill informed dialogues I have every seen in a place dominated by serially ill informed dialogues.

Honestly, you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground about the topic. I sat and listened and tried to save the timber industry from you and your ilk for twenty years. But you won. And every year we see the results. You are killing California's forests and leaving a charred wreckage for the future. You and your ilk's policies have failed and now you get pissy when someone attaches you to the failure you pushed for all these years. Hell an individual property owner has to go through complex Timber Harvest Plans for the smallest cut so most say screw that. Frisch you are the dumbest eco-warrior I have ever seen.

George Rebane

StevenF 1234pm - Again your ideological blinders don’t even permit you to read my point. Nowhere do I claim that firefighting professionals are idle in pursuing the legal changes necessary to support an effective program of prescribed burns. My strong contention is that IF such work really is going on, it is not going on in the forums that educate and invite the necessary broad-based political pressure to bring about needed change - where are the headlines, the commentaries, the reports of progress or rebuff to mobilize public support??? This solution now is beyond science and jurisprudence - it is and for a long time has been a political question.

If you support the kind of sub rosa work you claim is going on, then it is you and your cohort who are practicing Einsteinian insanity. But again, this may be one more nuance too far for you to grasp.

***M***

,,,trumpski and of course Toddly and Walter want to blame Cali Eco Nuts and Frisco values for forest mismanagement,,

,,problem is that the National Forests are managed by trumpski and the Republican controlled House and Senate!!! BWAHAHAHA!!!

National Forests represent 20 million acres or approximately one-fifth of California's landscape.

The single biggest threat to these incredible benefits is catastrophic wildfire. Over the last decade, an average of over 400,000 acres burned annually in California. The Forest Service spends about $200 million per year to suppress 98% of these fires and up to $1 billion to suppress the other 2% of fires that escape initial attack and become large catastrophic fires. The annual value of water and timber resources and recreational use on National Forests in California add up to approximately $13 billion for which we receive approximately $500 million per year in congressionally appropriated dollars to manage the multiple benefits derived from these assets.

Forest Service estimates that six to nine million acres of the National Forest System Lands need treatment to increase their resilience to the impacts of disturbances such as wildfire, climate change, invasive species and human population growth. We are treating approximately 200,000 acres per year. Even at this aggressive rate of treatment, it would take 30 to 45 years to treat the number of acres needed to make the difference in restoration of National Forests. In a natural ecosystem, fire returns on a regular basis. When fire is excluded from that natural process, as is the case for 70% of the Region, the resulting fuel buildup can increase the risk of catastrophic wildfires before we can treat those acres either with mechanical thinning or controlled burns.

In order to achieve our Ecological Restoration goals, the Forest Service will need to increase the amount of acres restored from 200,000 acres a year to approximately 500,000 acres per year. We will need an increase of at least $300 million a year of investment to accomplish this goal, but the additional investment potentially saves $800 million annually in direct cost avoidance in suppressing fires. The value of resources protected, including water, property and wildlife habitat, would be in the billions. Existing relationships and future partnerships with other federal, state, local and tribal agencies are crucial to increasing the pace and scale of our restoration efforts.

Critics were stunned that President Donald Trump skipped a visit Saturday to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France – where U.S. war dead were being honored – because of rain. They zapped him with a series of tweets showing Barack Obama in downpours honoring those who fought in wars in what was bound to be particularly galling to the president.

As many as 1,800 American soldiers killed in the World War I battle of Belleau Wood are buried in the French cemetery. But Trump ditched his planned visit and stayed in his hotel room because of unspecified “scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather,” according to a White House statement.

That's the way to do it "M"oron.. Blame it on Trump who has only been in office two short years, while the Dept. of Interior is still infested with ECO LIBS. Just what could Trump do after decades of ECO lunacy? Every logging plan that's filed is countered with ECO lawsuits.

The Wall Street Journal has obtained emails and sources indicating that Facebook executives, including Mark Zuckerberg, pressured Luckey to publicly support libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson after word of the donation got out. Moreover, Luckey's exit wasn't voluntary. The company placed him on leave and eventually fired him, albeit with an exit package worth "at least" $100 million.

Luckey's lawyer claimed the company broke the law as a result.

re: Sinema vs McSally

Although I haven't seen either of them say anything, it's an interesting race to watch, and given Sinema's history, shows the power of Team Blue's basic strengths.

It isn't like people change their minds over time due to the convincing nature of their political opponents arguments, aside from the fears of old age. Basically, I think what you are seeing here is population displacement.

The importation of Latinos is a pure winner from the Democrats standpoint plus urbanization has to be playing a part. Folks who live in rat-runs will tend to vote for more centralized control of their lives. Increasingly segregated and tribal societies will desire as big a pie piece as possible, more legal code to cover behavior, more policing, more rules for living generally.

I can see the sense of a political switch-over in that state.

Gregory

The GOP candidate for AZ governor is walking away with the race, belying Punchy's outline of AZ turning Blue... it may be that McSally might have been damaged too much by the three way primary fight, with Joe Arpaio the spoiler who would not have had a chance in hell of winning the main event.

Sydney J. Harris 1953
Patriotism is the love and affection one feels for his country. The feeling of patriotism is based on the values a country espouses and the way it strives to improve. Patriotism is based on the belief in the inherent goodness of the system of government in a country, and the goodness of its people. The word patriotism is derived from the word patriot, from the Latin word patriota meaning fellow citizen, and the suffix -ism, meaning a system or doctrine.

"'Nationalism is the love and affection one feels for his country. However, nationalism is rooted in the belief that one’s country is superior to all others, and carries the connotation of disapproval of other nations or a rivalry with other nations. While patriotism does not disparage other countries, nationalism builds up one’s own country by tearing other countries down. Nationalism supports dominating other countries. The word nationalism is derived from the word nation, which comes from the Latin word nationem meaning origin or tribe, and the suffix -ism."'

That is a given. What I have not concluded as of yet is if the Democrat Party rank and file is as radical as those with the bullhorns.

The Pubbers gotta watch it. The blues are sneaky and have pretty much taken over the West with Washington, Oregon, California , New Mexico and now Nevada and seepage into Arizona with a Senate flip. Nevada went solid Blue with the Senate, three out of four house seats and the Governorship going Dem. New Mexico solid blue taking House, Senate and Governor. So it's apparent the Left Coast is expanding. Oregon went 4 out of 5 Dems in the House and they won the Governors race. Dems won 7 out of 10 House seats and Gov for Washington.

Correction to my 1:43 pm. Reagen did not pick up a Senate seat as i erroneously reported. At least this link says not since the 70’s has a President’s party lost the House and picked up seats in the Senate.

A thoroughly average mid-term:

After two years of “fire and fury,” “little rocket man,” Comey and the Mueller “witch hunt,” political violence, “fake news,” Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, a tax cut, an economic boom, the caravan, and “horse-face,” not much has changed. Trump’s 45 percent approval is about the same as his 46 percent of the popular vote in 2016. In the end, there probably will have been a five-point shift toward the Democrats in the national House vote, giving them their best result in ten years. This is a significant win, but also likely to be temporary. Two years after the Democratic highs of 2008, Republicans came back and won 52 percent of the House vote. As Morris Fiorina of the Hoover Institution reminds us: This is an era of unstable majorities.....

One other thing history teaches: Pundits will ignore history, over-interpret elections, and argue that the next election will be the one where we finally reinvent the political wheel in our closely divided, incredibly heterogenous, rich, grand, beautiful country.”

“In Montana, Tester bucked that trend by winning reelection over Republican challenger Matt Rosendale by his largest margin ever, for the first time capturing 50 percent of the vote. “I lost some good friends this cycle. (U.S. Sen.) Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), (U.S. Sen.) Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) were two of my best friends. But you move on. And I’m sure there's some good people that are going to be coming in and I’m going to be able to meet over the next few months that we’ll be able to find common ground and we can work with,” he said.
Tester said he’ll rely on cross-party alliances, such as his relationships with Isakson [R-Georia] and Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, to move legislation. He told supporters Wednesday he was able to get 20 bills he either wrote or co-sponsored signed by Trump because of partnerships like that, and it can continue in 2019.

Lots of room in Idaho Todd where you can be around your kind. Looks like Blue skies for the rest of the West.

Paul Emery

Todd, you predicted the Pubs would gain in the House and Govships. What happened?

Paul Emery

Todd

The Democrats total vote count for the House was +6% over the Republicans. What happened to you're beloved Rasmussen Poll that picked the Republicans to be up by 1%. What happened in your estimation?

Todd Juvinall

Paul Emery I think Idahop suits you more then me. Besides I was born and raised here so I have roots. You don't. As far as my predictions. Well it appears I was off the mark on the House and on the mark with the Senate. 50-50. You were off 100% so I beat your sorry predictions.

Regarding the total votes. Meaningless. As each state has two Senators, I think it will be a long time before the rural areas of America are overwhelmed by your illegal aliens. California and New York supplied most of your six million. I already stated these in previous comments so it appears you don't read them.

Paul Emery

Off in my predictions Todd huh? I predicted the Pubs would win in the Senate and the Dems in the house. where did you get you're information-quote from me on this blog would do.

Don Bessee

Perhaps a comprehension issue if he did read it TJ@344.

;-)

Paul Emery

Those were house votes Todd. You're beloved Rasmussen Poll had the Pubs up by one or 2 and they lost by around 5. What is your explanation of your error in this?

Don Bessee

Generous but useless donations flood wildfire evacuation centers. Here’s what to send

When evacuation centers aiding California residents fleeing the rapacious Camp Fire put out a call for donations, people responded. And responded, and responded, and responded.
Now center coordinators are asking donors to stop sending supplies, reported The Redding Record-Searchlight.

“We have buildings full of stuff,” said Kathy Ingvoldsen at the Butte County Fairgrounds, according to the publication. “In four hours, we filled up a 5,000-square-foot building full of clothes. They’re stacked up on tables five feet high.”
Other well-meaning but misguided donors are inundating evacuation centers with used, unneeded or useless goods, reported The Redding Record-Searchlight.

“Cash donations and gift cards offer more flexibility,” Smith said, according to the publication. “Gift cards to places like Target or Walmart can help someone buy clothes or other items they might have left out of their go-bags.”

Gift cards for gas stations, supermarkets and pharmacies also can be useful for evacuees, said Stephanie Hayden, of Hope Center, which organizes donations in Oroville, California, reported The Redding Record-Searchlight.

Hayden said shelters do still need some specific items, such as new underclothes — particularly for women — backpacks, duffle bags and luggage, reported the publication.

51% of democrat households get a government check. Seems the bribes are working.

Todd Juvinall

Here is the latest bi-partisan attempts by Pelosi, Schumer and Cortez. A eye-opener.

Only 61%?

Paul Emery

So Todd you did not predict the Repubs would win the House? Is that what you are saying?

Todd Juvinall

Your reading comprehension is really bad.

Robert Cross

Toad 4:05--

"51% of democrat households get a government check." Do you mean public servants like fire fighters, police, teachers, highway patrol, or welfare queens? What is your proof of this Toad? Or did you just pull this out of your ass along with all your brains that are stuffed inside your little finger?

"Seems the bribes are working". What bribes are those Toad? Like the one dumbty trumpy gave to Stormy Daniels and the other woman... oh my bad.. those were non-disclosure agreements paying them to keep quiet about adulterous affairs.. that's not bribery right?

Here's an interesting piece that explains some of that 61%
https://quillette.com/2018/03/10/psychology-progressive-hostility/

"Haidt’s research echoes arguments made by Thomas Sowell in A Conflict of Visions and Steven Pinker in The Blank Slate. Both Sowell and Pinker contend that conservatives see an unfortunate world of moral trade-offs in which every moral judgment comes with costs that must be properly balanced. Progressives, on the other hand, seem to be blind to, or in denial about, these trade-offs, whether economic and social; theirs is a utopian or unconstrained vision, in which every moral grievance must be immediately extinguished until we have perfected society. This is why conservatives don’t tend to express the same emotional hostility as the Left; a deeper grasp of the world’s complexity has the effect of encouraging intellectual humility. The conservative hears the progressive’s latest demands and says, “I can see how you might come to that conclusion, but I think you’ve overlooked the following…” In contrast, the progressive hears the conservative and thinks, “I have no idea why you would believe that. You’re probably a racist.”

When Todd was asked about the elections he responded . "No wonder the red wave is coming."
RR August 2018

Was this the "Red Wave" you predicted Todd, losing the House and losing Governorships??

Bill Tozer

Oh Mr.Cross. Nice allegations you are putting out there again. Sweet. You believe it, so it must be true. You think it so it must be true. You say it and that makes it true. Got it. I reject your premise.

"Seems the bribes are working". What bribes are those Toad? Like the one dumbty trumpy gave to Stormy Daniels and the other woman... oh my bad.. those were non-disclosure agreements paying them to keep quiet about adulterous affairs.. that's not bribery right?

Do you have any evidence that Trump had consensual sexual relations with Stephanie Clifford in 2006? Any? Lay it out there for all to see. Details, we want details!

What is not in dispute is that a decade after the alleged dirty deed, one Stormy Daniels waited until October 2016 to drop an October Surprise on Trump and he directed his fixer to pay the gold digger what she wants. Gold digger.

I found Stormy more credible than those other accusers who came out of the woodwork saying Kavanaugh is a serial gang rapist, ROFLMA. Or that other one who wrote Willie Brown’s squeeze Senator Harris saying she was raped by Kavanaugh in a car. She omitted the fact that she is several decades older that the young Brett, lol. Only 3 have been forwarded to the DOJ for charges of lying to Congress. Sweet.

So, you can verify that Trump slept with Stormy? Or, because you say it then it must be true?.

51% on government assistance was a headliner in the news this morning. Guess you did not look...or chose not to. Big hugs and kisses.

from Paul Emery at 2:08 - "all that seems left for the Pubsters is Idaho, where all the Nazi's retire..."
Hilarious!
I'm wondering how Paul has such knowledge of all the NAZIs in the world.
Or could it be that Paul has no knowledge of any such thing and is just displaying his ongoing ignorance, bias and hatred?
Paul might want to view a map of the counties in America and how they vote. America geographically is overwhelmingly Red, Paul.
I would suggest you get out and travel around. This country isn't the cartoon you leftists try to make it out to be.

Bill Tozer

Boy, it’s true. The more they win, the angrier they get. Welcome to the new normal.

In other news Mr.Cross & Co. may have overlooked, the Parkland shooter was registered to vote from jail, the Border Patrol in just two days nabbed more fence jumpers than in the entire month of Nov, 2017, James Comey conducted sensitive FBI business on his private e-mail, and the Santuary blames ICE for the triple homicide committed by a hard working man who was just trying to provide for his family!

Oh yeah. Listening to pretty young Ms. Cortez is like watching those man on the street interviews asking college kids to name the three branches of government...or other such tough questions. She did not plan to the apartment because she thought she was going to live in the House of Representatives.

"all that seems left for the Pubsters is Idaho, where all the Nazi's retire and Utah which is Romney Country and as you know Romney is not a Trump fan..

Calling all Republicans "Nazis" is about the lowest thing Paul Emery has done.

Todd Juvinall

Robert Cross | 12 November 2018 at 04:51 PMBoobie, Boobie, Boobie, you are truly an unhinged liberal. I do agree that I have more brains in my little finger than you do in the bucket on your shoulders. Thanks. Stormie was paid by Cohen if I recall and Trump denies boinking her. But to keep a lid on her October Surprise (probably a Hillary ploy) she got the dough.

BillT has schooled your ignorant ass about the 51% and it is not working people getting a check. You and your fellow couch potato dwelling bon-bon eaters are the recipients of lots of my money. So take some advice from me, a man much smarter than you, get some reading skills with your bud Paul Emery so you both don't sound like the dumasses you come across as.

Todd Juvinall

Oh and regarding Nazis. My father and many other American boys fought the fascists and the Imperialist and beat them. If you ever say that to my face I will ounch your f***ing lights out.

Scott O

Oh, now Gregory - he didn't actually call all Rs NAZIs - he merely implied that Rs are comfortable in a state where ALL the NAZIs retire.
Considering Paul Emery is an ignorant, bigoted hate-filled moron, I really wouldn't worry about what he thinks (I'm being kind - some sort of synapse process, anyway) about anything.
I like to read his spittle spewing as it gives me insight into just how far down the American left has descended.
Paul has proven himself totally unable to back up anything I've challenged him on for quite some time.

If you ever say that to my face I will ounch your f***ing lights out.

Hanson said, “I was kind of shocked, because here the host was taking the occasion to pose as Europe’s next leader by basically attacking not only Eastern European leaders, but Trump with his nationalist point, and then framing a hyper-fascist nationalist like Petain, who not only, you could argue about his behavior in World War I, good and bad, but he was the leader of French fascist nationalism in World War II, and yet Macron, historically illiterate, starts to praise him while he’s attacking Trump.”

Hmm
Gregory
Never called Republicans Nazi's Gregory just stated a fact that there are many Nazi types that have holed up there in the woods. the former Nazi Community that I was aware of in the local area did just that, packed up and went to Idaho. Show me where I said Republicans are Nazi's. You guys are very sensitive to that which makes me wonder. My concern for Todd is that he be unhappy here since he is part of a declining culture locally and Idaho may be more welcoming with it's apparent open arms to Right Wingers of all kinds including Nazi's and white power types.
