George Rebane
Instead of my regular KVMR commentary, News Director Paul Emery suggested we do a little one-on-one for tonight’s news program. So we sat down for a little gabfest about the election. Paul asked me for any surprises on the outcome, and chowder-head me responded that things went pretty much as I had expected, while completely overlooking my total disappointment and frustration with the failure of Prop6 – you know, the repeal of the most recent California gas tax bamboozle from Sacramento.
Prop6 went down to solid defeat in California in the hands of a partisan majority of voters that over the years has vacillated between insanity and terminal stupidity. CA already has the highest gas taxes in the land, much of them from previous initiatives promised by the lying sacks of s#!t in Sacramento that the taxes would go to fix CA’s roads and bridges. Well, what has happened is that these tax receipts go directly into the state’s general fund to finance an endless number of programs and purposes – e.g. bullet trains, smelt salvation, succoring illegal aliens, funding govt workers pension liabilities, attracting evermore of the nation’s welfare recipients, … - that continue to leave us in an ever bigger mess. And with already the highest gas taxes in the land, we continue to pay these fraudulent takings without even a peep.
So now our roads are really a mess, and that looks like a perfect opportunity for some capitol scumbags to go to the voters – over half of whom pay no taxes, and a third of whom get regular government checks - and ask them to dance another round of the SOSO samba. Only this time the bill will be even more smelly because it has a built-in ratchet that keeps upping it ad nauseum over the years. Those Californians who pay attention did put out the word on Prop6, pointing out that these new taxes will do nothing except increase the cost of transportation (especially for the poor), while once more destined for the state’s general fund to finance the ever greater insanities and inanities from Sacramento.
Defeating such an obviously fraudulent proposition should have been a no-brainer, hence it was designed precisely for those not so encumbered. But like Lucy with the football, our Charlie Brown electorate again fell for the ‘can’t you see all them chuckholes and cracks and … all of which need fixin’?’ And, of course, today all them cracks etc are way bigger and more numerous and easier to see than last time, so the state’s not so nimble numbnuts dutifully checked the proper box to keep the most recent and onerous gas tax in place as the scumbags are already planning the next tax to fix the roads and bridges – hell, why stop a perfectly good bamboozle designed exactly for the kind of voters we worked so hard to attract, ‘educate’, and put in place. No one out there in VoterLand asks what is the word for doing the same thing while expecting a different outcome.
Oh well, on the national scene things went a little better. The Dems won the House, but the best they can do there is start more dead-end investigations of President Trump and the Executive branch, with a possible impeachment swipe at Justice Kavanaugh. Republicans actually will welcome that kind of blatant congressional obstruction which will demonstrate to the country that just putting the new and more aggressive socialist Left in power is going to do nothing to get Congress legislating for the people’s needs.
President Trump’s first-half accomplishments re the tax cut, regulation rollback, foreign policy, and immigration will stay in place. The border will not be secured, and healthcare costs will continue increasing with the bastardized system now metastasizing like a cancer. It will be easy to focus the spotlight on the source of stagnation, and Trump will have something very solid and visible to run on in 2020. The lamestream will have a hell of time ramping up their Fake News Machine enough to hide the source of grit and gravel grinding in the gears of government.
Meanwhile, the Dems will also have to work out their Gerontology Optics Problem with a leadership headed by Nancy the Penultimate Facelift, and backed up by a crowd of cretins like Mad Max Waters, Elijah Cummings, Comrade Bernie, Vacuum Head Ocasio-Cortez, the ‘Capitalist Bones’ of Fauxahontas, True Colors DiFi, SlyEye Chuckie Schumer, all straight out of Central Casting. Every one of these will be on daily display filling countless screens across the land. In the meantime, Trump will have a solid Senate majority to confirm and emplace as many constitutional judges and justices as are on his lengthening short-list. All in all, not a bad night.
Still doing the heavy lifting while away jeffty..... well done! Drinking plenty of free Tsing Tao I hope!

Take it easy on poor old Todd. He's very lonely for company these days and only has two or three contributors on this blog to support his so '70's mindset when Republicans ran wild in Nevada County. They Republican Party is an endangered species with long time members moving away to be closer to hospitals and family being replaced by Liberal typs attracted to our environment and culture .
He even has to resort to dating services for female companionship since Women have dumped the Repub party in record numbers. He's one of us-a living relic of times gone by. Just like pasties and gold mining all things have their season and Todds was long ago. NC didn't even vote for his hero stud and role model Trump in the last election. Even LaMalfa couldn't win in Todds home County so things are kinda rough for the ol' Todders.

Robert Cross@ 11:31 AM
The National Interagency Fire Center has recorded the number of fires and acreage affected since 1985. This data show the number of fires trending down slightly, though the acreage burned had increased before leveling off over the last 20 years. The NWS tracks the number of days where conditions are conducive to wildfires when they issue red-flag warnings. It is little changed.
University of Washington Professor of Atmospheric Sciences Cliff Mass pointed out in a recent interview with the Daily Caller: Wildfire area could well be increasing because of previous fire suppression, mismanagement of our forests, and a huge influx of people into the west, lightning fires and providing lots of fuel for them.
University of Alabama-Huntsville’s Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science John Christy says human mismanagement is the more important cause of the huge fires: If you don’t let the low-intensity fires burn, that fuel builds up year after year. Now once a fire gets going and it gets going enough, it has so much fuel that we can’t put it out. In that sense, you could say that fires today are more intense, but it’s because of human management practices, not because mother-nature has done something.
What is your evidence that anthropogenic climate change is causing more wildfires?
Human CO2 emission is not the temperature control knob for the climate's temperature.
Posted by: Russ | 10 November 2018 at 02:02 PM
Russ 202pm - good catch Russ. Yes, the feds’ and state’s forest mismanagement totally explains away the larger size of the wildfires. And, of course, the burning of people’s houses abets Agenda21. And as always, when people have a problem, government is guilty until proven innocent.

I honestly don't have a good answer for people living in a landscape that regularly wants to burn. I expect that the insurance companies will end up being the final arbiters on the whole deal.
You could certainly argue that PGE run their lines along highways rather than straight through the middle of inaccessible areas, but I don't know how much difference that would make on average.
Perhaps what is needed is simply a rethink on homes. Now that they've gone to roughly equalling something like a lifetime of earnings, they need to be treated with too much care.

"You keep saying you're not a LIB... Yet here you are, as the head cheerleader."
It's fun being Blue Mob Soul Brother #1. You throw a little line in the water and a dozen fish come to bite.
I can't see how California can avoid becoming more and more Blue over time, even the rural areas. Simple demographics is enough to explain it...middle class whites leave the state, foreign nationals pour in. People tend to vote the interests of their tribe. Also, simple political tribalism tells you that the Blue Mob like to be around others like themselves, Team Red in turn likes to live in groups. It's all good. When the Blue Mob starts burning down houses, you might think about keeping the tank in your car full.
I'm still waiting for the Blue Utopia to spring forth. You'd think that with a single party state, you could have free school, healthcare, and ponies.
Posted by: scenes | 10 November 2018 at 03:26 PM
Prices at the pump in CA. I almost postedt this link three weeks ago, but decided not to with other stuff going on.
Two takeaways. First, for every dollar spent at the pump, twenty cents goes to Sacramento, not to mention other taxes and fees. Considering the millions of cars in CA, that is a lot of money the State takes as a cut off the top and really eats into the average Joe’s family budget. A mid-size car or even a smaller car with a bigger tank costs 50 bucks to fill up. That is 10 bucks that goes straight to the State. Multiply that by millions of time a year. And that is not even all the taxes and surcharges.
Second, because CA has its own regulated special blend of gas, it is no wonder that the supply chain is being run like a monopoly with little competition.

The first Korean American woman was elected to the House. But, nobody ever heard of her or her story...not to mention her congressional seat here in Blue California.
Young Kim became the first Korean-American woman elected to Congress. She now represents the 65th Assembly District, which includes parts of northern Orange County. She’s an entrepreneur, a minority, and a Republican. This story has bothered me for a few days. Little pizza joint in a small town (pop. 14,000) 80 miles north of NYC. Town folks got together to chip in to fund a mural to be painted on an old ugly wall on a side of a building. An American Flag. Non political. Wrong. Symbol of hate and racism. Now the townsfolk are chipping in to presrve the flag after it was defaced.
The proposed mural:
https://thetakeout.com/pizzeria-proposed-flag-mural-controversy-new-paltz-new-1829910051
Before the marchers stepped off from La Bella’s to head down Main Street, Garcia told them, “If you see someone with a different point of view, ignore them. They have their right to free speech, just like we do.”
That was easier said than done, and by the time the two groups reached the intersection of Main Street and Route 208, they were exchanging slogans from across the street.
“USA! USA!” the pro-flag group repeatedly chanted.
“No Trump! No KKK! No fascist USA!” the other group countered.
Not subject to a no-sign rule, the counter-protesters carried a few. “In memory of those murdered by American imperialism,” said one sign, carried by a woman whose jacket bore the message, “Abolish ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).”
Brian Bottle of the hamlet of Wallkill, a pro-flag marcher, said earlier that he and others like him don’t want to stop immigration.
“We welcome everyone,” he said. “We want immigration, but we want it done in a legal process.”
After more than a dozen motorcyclists drove through the intersection in support of the flag mural, the pro-flag marchers headed back up Main Street to La Bella’s to continue fundraising for the project.
They were shadowed the entire way by the counter-protesters across the street..”

Democrats: ‘If We Lost, the Voters Must Be Racist’

Storyline A: “We didn’t lose!” Storyline B: “If we did lose, it’s because you’re a racist!”
The Democratic party’s transformation into an undergraduate intersectionality seminar at Oberlin is proceeding at a remarkable pace. The party’s current strategy is to scream “Racist!” at people voting for Mia Love and Tim Scott while insisting that Jared Kushner’s father-in-law and Benjamin Netanyahu’s best political friend is a scheming anti-Semite.
At issue is the defeat of Andrew Gillum in the Florida governor’s race and of Stacey Abrams in the Georgia governor’s race. Democrats are busily trying to undo those defeats as of this writing (Florida Democrats have a real knack for suddenly discovering caches of ballots from sympathetic voters at the opportune moment) while simultaneously arguing that the reason these two candidates failed is that they are black, and that Donald Trump’s America is just one tweet away from repealing the 13th Amendment.

Putting aside the Blue Wave of vitriol from the media directed at women voters because they voted wrong (against their own and the sisterhood’s stated best interests again) that our crack news direct has seemed to miss, carbon taxes across the West did not fair as well as thegas taxes in CA.

BTW. You know really pissed the progressive women off? Exit polls show that 40% of Hispanic women voted for Cruz in Texas, with the same numbers of Hispanic women voting against Stacey Abrams in Georgia. They voted wrong! They are still subjects of their husbands, fathers, brothers, and bosses. Took a page out of Hillary’s playbook.

Fires: California’s wildfire narrative is one of repetition
“We had these epic, terrible events last year and our governor came out swinging, talking about climate change. [But] he ended up with decrees and bills that focused on thinning the forest,” Moritz added.
Forest thinning would not have stopped the Camp or the Tubbs. Fueled by dry grass growing amid scattered pine and oak trees, the Camp tore across land thinned by flames just 10 years ago. The Tubbs burned grassy oak woodlands, not timber land.

More evidence he thought he was above it all -
The Cause of Action Institute, a conservative watchdog group, filed a Freedom of Information lawsuit for Comey’s Gmail correspondence involving his work for the bureau.
The Justice Department responded that there were an eye-popping 1,200 pages of messages for Comey and his chief of staff that met the criteria.
Justice released 156 of them but refused to hand over seven emails because they would “disclose techniques and procedures for law enforcement investigations or prosecutions.” And another 363 pages of emails were withheld because they discussed privileged agency communications or out of personal privacy concerns.
Cause of Action’s CEO slammed the former top G-man for minimizing the work he did using his private account. “Using private email to conduct official government business endangers transparency and accountability, and that is why we sued the Department of Justice,” said John Vecchione.
“We’re deeply concerned that the FBI withheld numerous emails citing FOIA’s law enforcement exemption. This runs counter to Comey’s statements that his use of email was incidental and never involved any sensitive matters.”

"When Sonoma County officials argue against stricter building regulations, some note that many of the homes built to the county’s strictest codes were still destroyed in the Tubbs fire."
What I'm just not seeing anywhere is a set of landscape restrictions, building code, forest management, that actually makes a lick of difference. There certainly are plenty of burned areas to go check out and see what works. Maybe the only answer is to make houses disposable.

Looking back I gotta admonish Robert Cross and M to stop arguing regarding things you obviously haven't noticed because you lack the experience. If it weren't for ambitious individuals who take the risks and exert the hard work involved to start and operate a business that eventually grows...there wouldn't be any employment for those who need employment to eat and have a place to live. I've always regarded employers as extended mamas and papas taking care of those who aren't able to be self employed...for many obvious reasons. Consequently, the worker employer and employees in the private sector pay the taxes that pay for all those in our gov. Ah yes, gov workers pay taxes too, but whatever they pay was collected from those business employers and employees first. It's really easy to figure out once you've had a business and employees, and have paid attention to where government gets it's money. Ah yes...and then there's the credit card that allows government to borrow money from (international banking) using American citizens as collateral...via Federal Reserve Bank. Don't throw rocks at working businesses and their worker employees that are the financial foundation of our nation. They actually produce everything we need and enjoy. Oh...and one more thing regarding educated people. Historians say the most looked down upon people are farmers, but in reality they're the most important. Without them we'd all have to grow our own food or starve...

I was going to write something but this says it better. God Bless our Veterans! -
I’m a little older now. I see a little more. I know a little more. And I know that veterans sacrifice immensely.
I know that our nation’s servicemen and women put duty to country above themselves.
I know that they serve not for medals or glory – but for a cause greater than themselves: Freedom.
I know that when our nation called, they answered.
Generations of veterans have stepped up and held the line against evil in the world.
And to that, I am eternally grateful.
So. To all of those brave souls that protected – and continue to protect – this beacon of light and freedom that we call America, I say, simply: Thank you.
