Quotes

Insight: “It may easily be foreseen that almost all the able and ambitious members of a democratic community will labor without ceasing to extend the powers of government, because they all hope at some time or other to wield those powers. … Centralization will be the natural government.” —Alexis de Tocqueville

Upright: “Boys are not lost because of toxic masculinity; they are lost because their fathers have been taken away from them and they cannot figure out how to fill that void with anything but rage and shame.” —Chad Felix Greene

Food for thought: “It’d be great if Trump just delivers the SOTU in written form, but there’s no way he’d agree to it after Pelosi suggested it. Maybe instead he can be convinced to give a short speech, 10 minutes or less, from the Oval Office. No pomp and circumstance. Great precedent to set.” —Matt Walsh

Non Compos Mentis I: “I think that’s the question of the moment: Does this still work? Can an empire like ours with military presence in over 170 countries around the globe, with trading relationships … and security agreements in every continent, can it still be managed by the same principles that were set down 230-plus years ago?” —Beto O'Rourke

Non Compos Mentis II: “[A border barrier] will ensure death. You and I, as Americans, have caused the deaths of others through these walls.” —O'Rourke

Apples and oranges: “If Republicans rebuked Steve King, they must challenge Donald Trump.” —Steve Israel in The Hill, where he bogusly claims, “As long as [Republicans] refuse to challenge the president when he gives comfort to neo-Nazi marchers, vilifies immigrants and mocks native Americans, spews decisive rhetoric, then, really, King is just a pawn.”

And last… “The Washington Post had one of their lead reporters do an entire investigation into the calorie count and cost of Trump serving fast food, yet they did little investigation into 30 congressional Democrats getting drunk on the beach with 109 lobbyists during a government shutdown.” —Charlie Kirk

Gonna be funny when her 70% tax rate on 10 million dollar earners gains an additional $89.50 in revenue and in order to satisfy her need for funding the "Green New Deal" they push the thing down the income ladder (which is always done) to generate a decent haul! Hell they might even get down to the retired "professor" from Sierra College!

Wouldn't that be fab!

You really need to think these things through dugsKKKi instead of letting Yahoo news do it for you!

No surprise there, will they indict the chairman for lying to congress?

The term “abortion” was added to a “blacklist” file for “controversial YouTube queries,” which contains a list of search terms that the company considers sensitive. According to the leak, these include some of these search terms related to: abortion, abortions, the Irish abortion referendum, Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and anti-gun activist David Hogg.

In the leaked discussion thread, a Google site reliability engineer hinted at the existence of more search blacklists, according to the source.

“We have tons of white- and blacklists that humans manually curate,” said the employee. “Hopefully this isn’t surprising or particularly controversial.”

Others were more concerned about the presence of the blacklist. According to the source, the software engineer who started the discussion called the manipulation of search results related to abortion a “smoking gun.”

The software engineer noted that the change had occurred following an inquiry from a left-wing Slate journalist about the prominence of pro-life videos on YouTube, and that pro-life videos were replaced with pro-abortion videos in the top ten results for the search terms following Google’s manual intervention.

It was one statistic, not on any particular race... but a composite that relied on perhaps only 6 people per each of the 435 congressional districts... and that just one per district was about the error it showed.

Yep, their model/sampling/something went south in the last days. But not on anything that actually counted.

My opinion is that you ran with it as a banner that proved what you wanted it to say... that Rasmussen was a shoddy player in the polling business... based on just one statistic.

Just wanted to back off a criticism of Steven Frisch's Sierra Business Council. I had pointed out that their staff was slanted female, but I hadn't counted their Board of Directors as a big piece of their puzzle, and while the staff is majority female, their 11 person Board has only three women.

I realize having a Board that is 73% male might not be seen by some women as a balance of their being 68% of the worker bees.

It is lily white though, putting all 40 of 40 folks pictured at sierrabusiness.org in the white camp, not that one or more might, like most of us, have some DNA that came from places other than Europe.

How do capital-P Progressives get away with it?

Judge Royce Lamberth ruled Tuesday that Obama administration officials, including national security adviser Susan Rice and deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, must answer written questions as part of a conservative judicial advocacy group's Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the State Department over Clinton's emails.
The lawsuit by Judicial Watch – now with the U.S. Court of Appeals District of Columbia Circuit – was first filed in 2014 in an effort to obtain records related to Clinton and her staff's response to the Benghazi attack. Specifically, the group sought documents about Rice's explanation immediately after the attack on the U.S. compound that characterized it as a protest turned violent instead of a deliberate terrorist assault. At the time of the attack, Rice was serving as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

"But the case has since expanded to question the motives behind Clinton's private email use while Secretary and behind the government's conduct in this litigation," Lamberth wrote in his Tuesday order.

The Republican — who served as attorney general from 1991 to 1993 — was confronted with comments he provided to the New York Times in 2017 during his first day of hearings, in which he suggested the Justice Department had more of a legal basis to investigate the Clinton Foundation and a longstanding conspiracy theory surrounding a uranium deal under Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state than it did probing Mr Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice.

Another good report from Mollie Hemingway about those who are sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and their puppets.

“Shortly before Ohr’s testimony in August, The New York Times took part in a bizarre effort to get investigators looking elsewhere. Reporters Michael Shear, Katie Benner, and Nicholas Fandos claimed that it was a “conspiracy theory” to view him as having a role in the Trump dossier saga.

“Ohr is an interesting character in the Russia-Trump collusion investigation because his role was unknown for a long time. The former top career official at the Department of Justice was a 27-year veteran with no role in counterintelligence operations. Initially, the FBI and Department of Justice claimed he had no involvement in the probe, despite his marriage to a Fusion GPS contractor. Then they claimed his role was unique and was unknown by others in the department.

“It turns out that Ohr kept top officials at both the FBI and Department of Justice apprised of his conversations with Steele, passed along electronic and written materials from multiple Fusion GPS employees, and shared key information that was excluded from the FISA application to the courts.

“According to Ohr’s testimony, just days after his July 30, 2016, meeting with Steele, he sought out top FBI officials. His first meeting involved none other than Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who later lost his job for lying about some of his leaks to reporters. Shortly thereafter, Ohr met with top Justice Department officials, including two who now serve on the special counsel.”......

That Ohr was briefing one of Lynch’s top deputies, and heads of various divisions, counters the previous narrative that Justice officials were in the dark about Ohr’s work. That it took place in late summer refutes the claims he only got involved after the election. Ohr also testified that he met with Peter Strzok and others.

In conversations with various members, Ohr claimed he repeatedly made it clear to the FBI that the information was not verified, risked bias, and had been obtained under political circumstances.“

,,,Voss, founder and CEO of strategy consultancy Black Swan Group , previously told CNBC's "Power Lunch" that Trump is "an assertive, openly aggressive negotiator."

"He's actually the kind of negotiator that as a hostage negotiator I had to learn how to get the upper hand on, without making them mad, without making it worse," Voss said.

The problem with that style, according to Voss, is that "people get tired of dealing with them."

Trump stormed out of a meeting with Democrats a week ago. Such a tactic can make it more difficult to find a long-term solution if it alienates the other side.

"Aggressive tactics, short term, are eminently satisfying, and then you run into trouble and you start having problems long term," Voss tells CNBC Make It.

Voss isn't alone. Several other negotiations experts have pointed out that Trump's negotiating style — a zero-sum strategy in which there's only one winner and one loser rather than both sides getting something — may be better suited to real estate deals, where you can always find another deal partner, than more high-stakes political negotiations where it is imperative that two sides reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, Voss is impressed by Trump's counterparts, Democratic leaders like Charles Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who Voss says has a lot of negotiating experience now that she's in her second stint as speaker.

Thanks or admitting your (media) polls are lower than Trumps as is the Congress run by your pals Nancy. Now exhale as telling the truth sets you free.

Very impressive indeed…..so impressive she got herself negotiated off the military VIP fleet that was going to whisk her off on a fabulous Brussels and Egyptian getaway (I guess ol Nancy just stays on the plane and drinks during those awful, awful Afghanistan stops)

She should probably send the president a thank you note for keeping her corrupt, bony ass in the country when the herd is getting ready to stampede! Wouldn't it be embarrassing to come home to a funded and made operational government while she was fucking off overseas?

A big nothing Paul Emery. Nothing illegal even if they did happen. And Drudge does not write the stories as you suggest. He simply links to others. What about your allegation on the polling for Trump? Crickets from you that I pointed out that you (the media) and Congress under Pelosi and Schumer have lower poll numbers. What a hoot!

Paul Emery

Todd

If you bothered to look at the RCP link I provided you would find that the Congressional polls were just as low under the Republican Congress. No difference. Do I have to remind you that the Dems didn't assume control of the House till the 2nd week of January.

Sure Todd, the media has lower poll numbers I guess. Can you send the link for the polls you cite?

for your conveniance I've included a link to the RCP consensus Congressional polls.

Todd Juvinall

No Paul Emery you can look and you know I am right anyway. You should be a bureaucrat. Delay. Anyway I don't care what the polls said last Congress. You are extremely giddy your pal Nancy has the House yet the polls show her House now is way lower in the polls than Trump. Just as yours are as well.

Paul Emery

Todd

It's the entire Congress that the poll refers to and that includes the Republican Senate.

Favorable, then unfavorable then spread. Looks like everyone knows Trump but only 80% know Pelosi and 72% know Schumer. Appears to me Trump is kicking ass.

Donald Trump 40.5 56.3 -15.8
Nancy Pelosi 34.8 46.5 -11.7
Mitch McConnell 25.0 47.7 -22.7
Chuck Schumer 30.7 42.7 -12.0

Quotes and a meme

Insight: “To curtail free expression strikes twice at intellectual freedom, for whoever deprives another of the right to state unpopular views necessarily deprives others of the right to listen to those views.” —C. Van Woodward (1908-1999)

For the record: “Nancy Pelosi wants Trump to postpone his State of the Union address due to a government shutdown yet she didn’t postpone her luxury vacation to Hawaii when the government was shutdown.” —Charlie Kirk

Political theater: “What is the State of the Union? The government is closed because of President Trump. If it continues to be closed on the 29th, I think it’s a good idea to delay it until the government is open.” —Chuck Schumer

The BIG Lie: “If Joe Biden gets in, he’s kind of the quintessential centrist, if you will.” —CNN’s Kate Bolduan

Non Compos Mentis: “Conservatives are thrilled a woman with a concealed-carry permit shot and killed a 19-year-old would-be mugger. That’s not how justice works. The penalty for theft is not death, nor do we want it to be.” —Think Progress editor Zack Ford, who added: “The fact she was able to protect herself in no way motivates me to change my belief that she should not have had a gun in the first place.” He also stated, “Of course I don’t think he should have had a gun either, but if she had let him rob her, even at gunpoint, both likely would have survived.” (“What happens if, having collected her purse, the mugger decides to drag her around the corner and rape her? Should she let that happen too? What if he’s high and shoots her for no real reason? The point is, Zack Ford has no idea what would have happened next if the woman hadn’t been armed. More importantly, she had no idea either.” —John Sexton)

And last… “Karen Pence teaches at [a] school that defines marriage as one man & one woman! Nancy Pelosi belongs to [a] church that defines marriage as one man & one woman! Guess which woman liberals attack.” —Liz Wheeler

Well now.. No money for the poor gov. worker. Yet plenty of it to send a bus load of Progressives and their queen to go Socialist state hopping? And staying in the finest hotels, eating the top quality chow.(and of course the best booze made)
"OH the room service we will get!! The shutdown does NOT apply to US!" Then then the dreams get crushed in a heartbeat.

YUP!!! Trump can DO that.

No I can see Trump whispering to himself after signing that letter and seeing it leave the office,, " So.. How do you like me now?"
Screw the LIBS and their hypocritical ways.

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

In its ruling tonight, the Fifth Circuit not only affirmed the state’s right to terminate its agreement with Planned Parenthood affiliates, but also confirmed that the videos were undoctored. The court noted that an independent forensic firm’s review of the undercover footage found “that the video was authentic and not deceptively edited.” This directly refutes Planned Parenthood’s own false claim.

President Trump Directed His Attorney Michael Cohen To Lie To Congress About The Moscow Tower Project

Trump received 10 personal updates from Michael Cohen and encouraged a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin.

By Jason Leopold and Anthony Cormier

"President Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, according to two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter.

Trump also supported a plan, set up by Cohen, to visit Russia during the presidential campaign, in order to personally meet President Vladimir Putin and jump-start the tower negotiations. “Make it happen,” the sources said Trump told Cohen."

And even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russia, the sources said Trump and his children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project....

Hey, Paul guess who is winning?

WELL: Shock Poll: Trump Gains 19 Points with Latino Voters During Border Wall Shutdown. “In the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll released Thursday, President Donald Trump may have suffered some among Republicans overall, but he saw a huge point gain in a different demographic breakdown, and an unexpected one by conventional wisdom. In early December, the poll had Trump’s approval rating among Latino adults at 31%. The results from the poll released Thursday show the president’s job approval among Latino adults at 50%. That is an astonishing 19 point swing. Prior results had less variance, with Latino approval numbers at 36% in their November 1st findings. It was 27% in the pollster’s mid-October survey. The January poll was conducted during the government shutdown over border wall funding, most notably. So the big swing among Latinos was while Trump and Democrats faced off over funding for the wall.”
