We could learn from Placer County. They site the puke buckets for littering.

How do you pay for it? Blonde ambition?
“Conservative pundit Ann Coulter once made a controversial claim that “single women look at the government as their husbands,” expecting the government to provide for their every need. Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal naivete provides unfair validation for that statement. Instead of using her massive platform to make nuanced, well-reasoned arguments for taxing the rich and expanding the national debt, her current track record indicates that she’s interested in neither.
All of the cringeworthy media interviews and high-profile errors she’s been so flippant about making will only cause more difficulty for young women to get elected to high office in the future. Her incompetence only cements the idea that a pretty, likable woman is one who, unfortunately, lacks a brain.“

I wrote that as a joke but now I see it is actually true. We conservatives celebrate the Constitution and you lefties want to change it and make it something else. So yes, those days are days of conservative celebration. You and Frisch can have your "mayday" and Lenin birthday events all to yourselves.
An American Patriot would not talk and write against the things that make our country great as you loons of the left do.
Posted by: Todd Juvinall | 20 January 2019 at 11:54 AM
ToddJ brings up an interesting point, whether you agree with his specifics or not. According to ample liberal media (print, broadcast, blogs, …) there definitely are ‘holidays’ – secular and religious – that are distinctly favored asymmetrically depending on your ideology. Googling the topic provides ample evidence. Conservatives, for example, are more prone to observe religious, patriotic, and historical (traditional) holidays. And liberals are obviously more observant of the socio-political holidays such those celebrating labor, ethnic identities, Cesar Chavez, MLK, May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Labor Day, and Indigenous People’s Day (instead of Columbus Day). Even a semi-religious (semi-secular?) holiday like Thanksgiving is now beginning to be eschewed by the Left because of its Pilgrim heritage. Christmas has long been dunned by the secular humanist Left. And from years’ long observances of events like 4th July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out the political affiliation of the residences and businesses that fly flags, buntings, …, and who attends the convocations to observe the holidays. Parades and fireworks are more iffy to argue since they provide entertainment and expression (e.g. political party and activist floats) for people of all persuasions. But attend, say, a Veterans Day convocation, and you’ll have trouble finding a liberal save some old codger in his American Legion cap who served overseas in the long distant past and is now a liberal. Bottom line, to argue that the Right and Left observe all of our holidays with equal enthusiasm, seems to me, as something people do who haven’t been paying attention or serve another agenda. Just a thought.

I'm referring more to cultural events and their effects on the economy. SYRCL with their advocacy for Wild and Scenic status for the South Yuba River and their organized support for the South Yuba River State Park as well as their Wild and Scenic Film Festival in a very slow time of year-mid January make a huge impact on the local economy. Can you list an equivilant organization from the Conservative perspective that makes such an impact?
Posted by: Paul Emery | 20 January 2019 at 12:21 PM
Having attended many Memorial Day events, parades and other community gatherings I have to say the left only shows up to complain and whine while the conservatives are there to say thanks. Recall LaMalfa coming here after the Trump election. The left turns out all those freeloaders to scream and shout their "wants" while we conservatives were there to thank LaMalfa for his help of the district. And the gatherings on the overpasses here. All the loons of the left are there with their whining and screaming while we on the right were there to support America.

Truth, education and corrective action matter,’” Reshef added before playing a “tear-filled plea for a teachable moment” from Phillips.
“One Native American man who was there tells the Associated Press that he initially thought this could spiral out of control, there would be a mob mentality,” she continued, “but some of those students actually joining the Native American men and women that were singing there, and it ended up defusing peacefully. Let us hope so. The Bible, the same one liberals are waving lately, says Christians, and Catholics, are the light of the world and are to place their light, not under a bushel, but on a night stand where the light can lead all to the ultimate truth. It is unlikely Feinstein would tell a Muslim nominee, “The Sharia dogma lives loudly within you.”
Note the use of the word “dogma” in a pejorative sense, as if the Catholic Church was a cult like the Druids chanting around a fire waiting for the human sacrifice to arrive. In fact, Barrett has in fact been slandered as a member of a cult which is in fact a legitimate Catholic faith group:

Seven hundred thousand visitors is 1918 visitors a day, 365 days a year.
But if we think it's weekends, that would be limited to 104 days a year, or 6731 people on average on weekends.
If it's weekends in the summer months, that would be a crowding in just 26 days a year... of 27 thousand people, or a really big chunk of Nevada County, a sea of pasty white flesh.
So, when are all those people there? Yes, in heat waves in the summer it seems like all of Grass Valley are in the water by the bridge but it isn't so.

Paul, just accept that it's probably an exaggeration. It's OK, I'm not upset and don't think less of Haffey (if that's indeed the source) for it.
You have to admit that the Yuba is a brilliant thing to build a profitable non-profit around. It's probably less a slam dunk than cute dogs who need homes, but requires less in the way of results or facilities.

Here's a link
https://www.theunion.com/news/syrcl-celebrates-opening-day-at-the-south-yuba-river-over-memorial-weekend/
A whole 120 people were greeted by SYRCL "ambassadors" opening day last year. Let's round it up to 200 to account for folks who were avoiding them.
Twenty six weekend days in the summer season... would make it 26 times 200... 5200 people per year. This is beginning to look more rational, don't you think?
Posted by: Gregory | 20 January 2019 at 03:34 PM
I think Gregory has it right. Haffey used the phony SYRCL number they used to boost their stance during the hearings. Of course, the Board defeated them (I had a little to do with that) so Izzy had her pal from the Bay Area take it up and not one official from here or the District supported it. But her subterfuge won the day. Now she is a $100,000 a year CEO like Frisch. All non-profits. What a joke.

One thing for sure former Supervisor Hank Weston was a big supporter of he Park. Here's a quote from 2012. State Parks District Superintendent has a quote on his estimate of attendance. It's grown since then.
“This is a quid pro quo situation,” Weston said. “I basically told the state if you want us to help you, you need to take the parks off the closure list.”
California State Parks District Superintendent Matt Green said he was receptive to the plan.
“I believe this makes the running of the park more sustainable,” he said. “We needed to find some way to extend our fee base to pay for the high cost of staffing.”
Green said more than 450,000 people visited South Yuba State Park last calendar year."

Walt, Todd and Don- I'll admit I have no idea how many people use the Park (and I don't particularly care), but I do know every 5 years the state parks publishes a very detailed (and yes they include estimates if they don't have a direct count method such as entrance fees) spreadsheet on their Parks. Why don't you take the 5 minutes to Google the latest stat instead of calling people liars based on your hunch? I am flabbergasted that a County Supervisor is unaware of such a publication and that he admittedly didn't bother referring to it when he was an elected official.

If it is so available why did you not supply the link?
Posted by: Todd Juvinall | 20 January 2019 at 05:31 PM
So you admit you can't make the math work Paul? Not even close to probability? You believe any unsubstantiated figure thrown out?
You have a long track record of falling for unsubstantiated statements. Now is no different. A county sales pitch web site is far from factual stats.
You took the Buzzedfeed story hook, line, and sinker. (then hid till the heat was off. Then changed the subject.)
Your backing the stated number, show the evidence.

"Brandon Branson", you sound a lot like Steven Frisch.

WOW Brandon, You say it exists, yet won't produce it.
"WE" are to go looking for it? Sorry, it don't work that way.
Can you make the math work? So how many should have made the "visit" today?
Posted by: Walt | 20 January 2019 at 05:42 PM
OK I went searching for the stats on visitors of the So Yuba State Park. Guess what? Nada. But I recollect that when the SYRCL jerks were
lobbying the Supes they had a guy with a counter go to the six or seven areas where cars could park and he clicked away. The number was a couple of hundred people on a Saturday and a Sunday in the summer. Those brilliant people then extrapolated it in a way to inflate the numbers. The local Supes did not buy it and neither did our Assemblyman, State Senator and Wally Herger.

I KNOW how they/he/ whothehellever,, came up with that chest thumping number.(Now why I didn't think of it sooner,,,)
You know those hoses the roads dept puts out you run over now and then? They count cars. So they put those out on HY49 on at the park property line. So each car, whether it stops at the river or not, is counted as a "visit".
So all those extra dope runs from the ridge to Nevada City gets counted as a "state park visit".
That's "Government math" at work.
That's how you count to "700,000". " See? we have the trip counters to prove it!"
Posted by: Walt | 20 January 2019 at 05:59 PM
Since the park does not keep track there are no stats to find. All guesses.

OK, with a few hours for information to bubble up... it's quite evident that the old wise native American with a drum made a beeline towards the kid wearing the MAGA hat intent upon harassing the kid... who didn't budge.
Steven Frisch, Judith Lowry, Jeff Peeline... you should all do a mea culpa, backing off your hateful mischaracterizations of the event.

"Now she is a $100,000 a year CEO like Frisch."

Elizabeth Martin CEO 109,241
That is so seriously brilliant. You have to feel like a fool sometimes for not grabbing some of that sweet sweet non-profit $$$$.
As long as they aren't receiving government grants, I'm down with it.

"So you admit you can't make the math work Paul?"
To be fair, he's probably just repeating something he's heard from somebody who heard it from somebody who read a state report.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if some dogsbody at the state cooked up a 700k number, but that seems vastly overestimated.

"it's quite evident that the old wise native American with a drum "
In modern day parlance, all indigenous Americans over the age of 50 are referred to as 'elders' or 'tribal elders', although they are no doubt 'old' and 'wise'.
For everyone else, worth a read.

Watched the video and it was evident that there was no disrespect or screaming at the chief. The young teen with the MAGA hat simply stood there and had no expression on his face. He did not move or do any aggressive at all. I did see a young black kid make a mocking move. But to characterize this as Peeline etal did is over the top. Peeline even wants people to write the school and complain. All I can say is no one was murdered like the five cops at a Black Lives Matter event. The left is always making stuff up. Fake News Pelline etal. White liberals and their guilt.

Todd 5:31. Can you read? I wrote "I don't care". Why would I bother to sleuth stats for your team of Nazi hunters. But because you are so thick here is a report from the State. Don't ask me if it is accurate, the most up to date, whatever. YOU are the guy who crows about being a government supervisor but you don't have the wits to even know these exist??? No wonder the government is the way is if idiots like you got elected.

Here is the news report on the kerfuffle by the libs.
"The new footage reveals that the Native American man, Nathan Phillips, approached the students with his drum and beat it in their faces."
Now Brandon, did you read that report? I bet you did not. But if you did you would be unable to find attendance numbers. But hey, you are a moron and there is no help for you.
But if you can find those attendance numbers let me know and I will certainly take back my calling you a moron.
Posted by: Todd Juvinall | 20 January 2019 at 06:55 PM
Well Brandon, if "you really don't care",, then why in hell stick your nose in? You had less than nothing to offer.
So you just pulled a "buzzedfeed". Be proud of that.

@6:22 pm
“This whole story just exposes the left for the lying, cry-bullying, vindictive, shrill, ugly hate machine it is.
What is clear from the unedited footage of the event is that the boys did little wrong. Sure, they might have chanted boisterously, even rudely, but they are kids, and they were provoked.”
The Leftinista Media Superpac is the enemy of the people. Shawn King again? Too funny, too predicable, too wrong.

Someone give Nevada City some simple advice.
Go buy your own goats. 30 grand to "rent" them?( The goat herder found someone else that's stump broke)
Head to the Roseville auction yard. You should have PLENTY of city
volunteers to run roughshod over the new city employees.
So the mountain lion gets one now and then.. Just acceptable losses.
Posted by: Walt | 20 January 2019 at 07:40 PM
How do you know they don't keep track Todd? Do you know that or is it a guess. Of course they keep track of usage, I can't imagine them not doing so.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 20 January 2019 at 07:42 PM
Did you at all follow my links Scenes?
Posted by: Paul Emery | 20 January 2019 at 07:43 PM
HEY! Paul can be the city goat man! You just might be needing the job. Someone will have to get axed when the grant check bounces.
Just keep them out of the rose gardens and Granny's MMJ patch.
OH.. And be sure to identify and hold sacred any and all endangered plants the goats would love to eat. You will be fined for any losses.(just some words of encouragement.)
Posted by: Walt | 20 January 2019 at 07:52 PM
Well Paul Emery, go get those links you say exist and show us.

To get you started here's an easy one from Haffey and the County
County has been facilitating a multi-agency Yuba River Safety Cohort group to take steps towards keeping the South Yuba River’s approximate 700,000 annual visitors safe while enjoying the Yuba’s natural beauty and recreation opportunities.
