And the debt service under Trump is increasing at about a Trillion a year since his tax cuts. Here's a quote from Trump on Hannity. What in your view does "relatively quickly" mean:

"It can be done. ... It will take place and it will go relatively quickly. ... If you have the right people, like, in the agencies and the various people that do the balancing ... you can cut the numbers by two pennies and three pennies and balance a budget quickly and have a stronger and better country."

However George this is the reality:

"The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that the preliminary federal budget deficit for fiscal year 2018 was $782 billion. That was $116 billion more than the $666 billion shortfall in fiscal year 2017.

And the most recent CBO projection for fiscal year 2019 shows a deficit of $981 billion. Each year from 2020 to 2028, the CBO projected, the deficit would top $1 trillion annually."

We have lost control of the Southern Border. Beyond crisis mode. Two days in a row over 4,0000/day show up looking for Border Patrol agents to pick them up. With children. Some women show up with four or five kids.. It’s a guaranteed 48 hour turn around and they are released into the interior...with a high likelihood never to be seen again. Interior enforcement is almost non existent for the non-violent The border patrol is not even verifying if the kids belong to the illegals they are with.

Detention centers are overrun and not designed for this massive flood of people. Pregnant women are held less than 24 hours. Cartels are now recruiting people from Central America. Come to America and you will spent 48 hours max in detention and released to live in America with social benefits. Good to go.

A big humanitarian crisis going on. Open borders. People waiting for the Border Patrol to pick them up. Pick up a group and go back and another group has assembled. Children are scared, hungry, sick. For their part, the Border Patrol agents are first making sure everyone in the groups found waiting are safe. Safety first. Blankets strewn everywhere. They now are putting the sick in groups. Measles over there, this disease goes over there, that disease goes in that group over there. Structurally cannot handle the numbers. No checking “fear” claims. It is truly an invasion. 100,000 in March alone. Weather is getting better, the sheer volume is out of control.

Today the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan spoke near the border in El Paso. Money quote: “Two weeks ago, I briefed the media and testified in Congress that our immigration system was at the breaking point. That breaking point has arrived this week at our border.”

Social services here are stretched beyond capacity. We’re consistently reassured that immigrants are simply processing here, and then headed off to stay with relatives or other sponsors elsewhere around the country….It’s important to note that none of these people has the right to work in the United States unless and until they have a successful asylum hearing. Which most don’t, either because they don’t show up, or don’t fit the asylum criteria.

WATER FOR THE PEOPLE!

Now the Trump administration, which has spent the past two years trying to deliver more water to Valley farmers, is going on the attack. After being sued at least 45 times by California officials — on issues like climate change and immigration — the Trump administration is filing a suit of its own over the water board’s decision.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, says the state water board’s plan would violate California’s own environmental laws, as well as foul up the federal government’s ability to deliver water from New Melones reservoir on the Stanislaus River to member agencies of the Central Valley Project.
The CVP is the federal project, built during Franklin Roosevelt’s presidency, that brings water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to farm-irrigation districts in the Valley.

I never saw a liberal or a democrat that cared about the national debt and deficits. Is that the Keynesian theory? Where the more debt the better to get the country back on its feet? Anyway, now the left wants us to believe they care. Sorry, deaf ears here on that lie.

Time to kick Turkey to the curb, no F35's for you POS. This is worse than anyone imagined -

A cache of wiretaps originating in Turkey appear to show the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan aiding the passage of militant fighters tied to the ISIS terror group into and out of Syria, according to new reports that are raising questions about Turkey’s commitment to its military alliance with Washington, D.C.

'Recorded conversations between ISIL operatives reveal a different story from the one the Erdoğan government tells publicly'
The records 'indicate that an implicit agreement existed between ISIL and Turkish security officials'

Here's a classic from Lindsey Graham about Clinton:

MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell unearthed an 1990s clip of Graham demanding the impeachment of Bill Clinton — for far less serious charges.

“While this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.” Graham thundered in Congress.

Gregory

Yes, perjury is a far less serious crime than treason... but there was proof of perjury by Clinton and no evidence of treason by Trump.

What you are saying, Punch, is that your wild imagination beats fact.

Paul Emery

Treason Gregory? Whose contention was that? We're talking obstruction of justice which Trump was NOT exonerated for.

PaulE 1038am - "And the debt service under Trump is increasing at about a Trillion a year..." Paul, it doesn't look like you can distinguish between debt, deficit, and debt service. Plenty of websites contain tutorials on those.

Also, study up on the increases in longstanding entitlement programs that are already built in that continue increasing the annual deficits. I know you can blame those on Trump to your fellow travelers; but those don't fly here because RR has a more learned audience. Put some actual depth into your arguments - e.g. Tax cuts don't help an economy's growth, and higher taxes are the solution for more govt revenues without affecting the economy, and ... . We can (re)debate those.

Bill Tozer

My position on NATO (Germany) has not changed. Time to revisit the issue.....exploding heads not withstanding.

“Bob Gates, perhaps the most farsighted post-Cold War defense secretary, presciently predicted in 2011 “that there will be dwindling appetite and patience in the U.S. Congress—and in the American body politic writ large—to expend increasingly precious funds on behalf of nations that are apparently unwilling to devote the necessary resources or make the necessary changes to be serious and capable partners in their own defense.”

“Gates, who once rightly understood that the Saudis would fight Iranians to the last American, also essentially hinted the same with regards to Germany and Russia, “nations apparently willing and eager for American taxpayers to assume the growing security burden left by reductions in European defense budgets.”

“Put simply, he was saying the Germans would talk about an international liberal order for as long as Americans would pay to defend it. The day they are caught not tangibly supporting this order, they would throw a tantrum and blame Washington. “Future U.S. political leaders– those for whom the Cold War was not the formative experience that it was for me—may not consider the return on America’s investment in NATO worth the cost,” he said.”......

“The last two weeks have brought back this long-time question, as Germany yet again reneged on its pledge to increase its defense budget, which was already far short of the required 2 percent of gross domestic product to uphold North Atlantic Treaty Organization commitments. Under a nominally conservative leader in Angela Merkel, the German government is apparently struggling to have a defense budget of 1.3 percent of GDP, and reports show it is set to decrease to 1.2 percent by 2023.

“In short, Germany is not even trying to increase NATO funding, but actually planning to decrease it, in a rub to the American and British taxpayers who subsidize European security. Adding insult to injury, some German politicians accused the American ambassador to Germany, Richard Grennell, of acting like a colonial viceroy or high commissioner of an occupying force, and wished he would leave Germany immediately.

Money quote

“Yes, you read that right. Germany refused to pay for its share in NATO, and when the American ambassador pointed that out, the German leaders wanted to make him a “persona non grata” and take away his position. “

Gregory

"We're talking obstruction of justice which Trump was NOT exonerated for"-Punch

It was the 'Russia Investigation', not the obstruction of justice investigation.

Obstruction of justice is, historically, what some guilty people do when concealing their crimes. Not what people falsely accused do when they resist someone trying to frame them.

Gregory

In short, what is being whined about on the left is that for two years they kept expecting Mueller to deliver Trump's head on a platter, not just Nancy Pelosi as Speaker again which is their consolation prize.

You know, if we taxed the filthy rich at 100%, we would have enough money to pay off all the outstanding student loan debt. Of course, there would be nothing left over for those young people in the pipeline entering college to service their student loans. All the money gone, and that is just one of the many many multi-trillion proposals the Dem Socialist candidates are spouting on their stump speeches. Today’s quotes

A blind squirrel finds a nut: “I think there was a fundamental difference between 16-year-old Eric and 18-year-old Eric. … If you’re able to serve in the armed services, you know, potentially give your life for your country, I think that is a really good demarcation line. And at that point I think you ought to have the ability … to vote.” —former Attorney General Eric Holder

Race bait: “Exactly when did you think America was great? It certainly wasn’t when people were enslaved. It certainly wasn’t when women didn’t have the right to vote. It certainly wasn’t when the LGBT community was denied the rights to which it was entitled.” —Eric Holder

Braying Jenny: “We just haven’t even seen the Mueller report, and we don’t expect to accept just the attorney general’s interpretation of it. A little bit arrogant of him to think that that would be the case.” —House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Braying Jenny II: “I’m so proud of the work of [House Intelligence Committee] Chairman Adam Schiff, in stark contrast to the irresponsible, almost criminal, behavior of the previous chair of the committee. … I think [Republicans are] just scaredy-cats. They just don’t know what to do.” —Nancy Pelosi

Oh good grief: “It took [William Barr] only two days to write a four-page summary of an investigation that was conducted over the course of two years, seemingly around the clock. So it calls into question the integrity of the document that he submitted.” —Sen. Kamala Harris

Delusions of grandeur: “[The Mueller report] establishes, I hope, to all people, no matter where they are on the spectrum, that the FBI is not corrupt, not a nest of vipers and spies, but an honest group of people trying to find out what is true. And that’s what you see here.” —former FBI Director James Comey (He’s right about the vast majority of agents, but deceitfully wrong about his own leadership.)

The BIG Lie: “One real threat is the impacts of climate change on our safety. … Cyber-security is a real threat. … Mass gun violence … [is] a real threat. What’s not a real threat to the safety and security of Americans is the southwest border.” —Janet Napolitano

Alpha Jackass: “In America, we have in the aggregate a mass shooting every day because dozens of people are shot and killed. I am frustrated with politicians who all the best they can muster is to give thoughts and prayers. Enough of that. Enough of that.” —Sen. Cory Booker

Pivoting: “I don’t know all the details in the prosecutor’s decision [to drop the Jussie Smollett charges]. I know that’s going to come out. But what we’ve got to know is that this is happening in a larger context where hate crimes in this country are on a rise. Where white-supremacist violence is on the rise. In fact, if you look at the majority of terrorist attacks since 9/11, the majority of them have been done by homegrown, right-wing extremist groups, and the majority of those have been white-supremacist groups.” —Cory Booker

And last… “I wouldn’t mind them dropping charges against Smollett if the condition was that he had to publicly admit his guilt. That would be a worse penalty than jail time for a narcissistic liar like him. The fact that they allowed him to walk free AND play the martyr is the real travesty.” —Matt Walsh

Paul Emery

A reporter is accusing the managing editor of NBC News and MSNBC’s political coverage of trying to "intimidate” him into spiking a story about the Democratic National Committee in a chilling phone conversation that he says had her acting as a political operative and not a fellow journalist.

Yashar Ali, a high-profile freelance journalist whose work has appeared in the Huffington Post and New York magazine, said he was so taken aback by his conversation with Dafna Linzer, who has held the key NBC position since October 2015, that he posted his synopsis of it in a series of tweets Friday. Linzer, he said, was trying to block him from publishing the dates of the 2020 Democratic Party primary debates - a move Ali suspects was made to benefit the DNC, not her employers.

“Yesterday, I received a call from @DafnaLinzer who serves as managing editor of NBC/MSNBC politics. Dafna's conduct during the call was highly inappropriate and unethical. So what was the purpose of her call? She called me to bully me on behalf of the DNC,” the first tweet read.

Another Trump Lie highlighted by PaulE - he couldn't eliminate the deficit during the first half of his tenure as the Dems were doing everything possible to stymie EVERY initiative Team Trump and the Repubs were attempting to achieve, and then they blame him.

None of them understand that nothing debt-wise can be accomplished without vigorous growth, and as Obama demonstrated for 8 years, high taxes and a heavy load of regs produce less than anemic growth. BAD PRECEDENT

A congressional committee is mucking around in the affairs of Fox News in a manner that should concern every defender of free and independent news media. But because it's Fox News, none of the usual suspects have yet to protest this threat to our First Amendment rights.

The probe stems from a New Yorker magazine report that Fox News killed a story on Donald Trump's payment of hush money to stripper Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election because 21st Century Fox Chairman Rupert Murdoch wanted Trump to win the election. (The story was first reported by other media in 2017.)

That prompted the House Oversight Committee to ask Fox to turn over any information it had about Trump's "debts and payments to silence women alleging extramarital affairs with him prior to the 2016 presidential election." The committee also wants information about any "action taken against" reporter Diana Falzone in "connection with attempts to report such stories," and has asked Falzone to turn over her notes by March 28.

Falzone worked on the story in question and was subsequently fired by Fox. She sued alleging gender and disability discrimination, and the case was settled out of court. Her attorney, Nancy Erika Smith, said Falzone is willing to ignore the nondisclosure agreement she signed and testify before the committee.

This is "about obstructing justice and a news organization that has become an arm of a campaign," Smith said. "Real journalists don't kill stories because of political preferences and certainly not two weeks before presidential elections."

I hate to break the news to Ms. Smith, but there's nothing unique about what Fox allegedly did. A lot of stories never see the light of day because they fall apart under close scrutiny, and some stories are even "spiked" because they would upset a major advertiser or a good friend of the owner. It happened to me many years ago, and my experience wasn't unique.

But regardless of why Fox killed the story, no arm of the government should be poking around the inner workings of a news organization, or second-guessing in congressional hearings the editorial judgment of decision makers. News organizations have a First Amendment right to publish — or not publish — what they please, and they can spike a story for any reason they choose. That's part of freedom of the press.

I get it. This involves Fox News and Trump, but even people who would like to see both disappear are playing with fire if they countenance this government intrusion into the affairs of a news organization. It's a dangerous precedent that can lead to more aggressive oversight in the future that can threaten the independence of media.

If you don't believe me, just look at the press in countries where editors and news directors have to worry about how the government will react to any story they publish or broadcast.

Who is taking odds that grampa joe wont make it to the projected announcement date?? There is a picture on this one too!

I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders. I froze. “Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?” I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified. I thought to myself, “I didn’t wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it. And also, what in the actual fuck? Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair?” He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head. My brain couldn’t process what was happening. I was embarrassed. I was shocked. I was confused. There is a Spanish saying, “tragame tierra,” it means, “earth, swallow me whole.” I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me. My name was called and I was never happier to get on stage in front of an audience.

"The Cost Conundrum What a Texas town can teach us about health care."
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2009/06/01/the-cost-conundrum

'Medicare' strikes me as a brilliant marketing concept. Since it's highly subsidized, and the payments you made were hidden if you're an employee (or nonexistent if you play music in bars for a living), it feels free. It's pretty hard to subsidize absolutely everyone though.

Any substantial changes to healthcare that don't involve radically lowering the cost aren't worth listening to. I can't believe that having a single payer will make much difference. A lot of counties have only one or two operational insurance companies to begin with, so how does merely moving it to a single private company under contract to the .gov really make any difference?

Yo bro, socialism rocks that's what the chicks and profs say. What? NO wait! Not if it takes something FROM ME DUDE!!

With far left candidates and policies on the rise in America, it’s no surprise that for the first time ever, more young people say they’d prefer to live in a socialist country over a capitalist one.

Whether it’s free healthcare, free college tuition, or universal basic income, students around America increasingly support higher taxes on the wealthy in order to pay for these progressive policies. But would they support similar policies if they had skin in the game?

To find out, Campus Reform's Cabot Phillips went to Florida International University in Miami to test the waters on a “Socialist GPA” policy in which students with higher GPAs would be forced to “spread the wealth” and give some of their GPA points to students with lower GPAs.

Despite the overwhelming number of students who initially said they’d support socialist policies, few agreed to go along with such a plan.

]
“I’m all for helping, but I wouldn’t give some of my points… I’ve lost a lot of sleep so I don’t know if that would be fair,” one student said, while another answered no because “I like, study all day for my grades.”

“ And I'd look at them (border apprehensions) every morning, it'd be the first thing I'd look at. And I probably got too close to the problem, and my staff will tell you if it was under 1,000 apprehensions the day before that was a relatively good number, and if it was above 1,000 it was a relatively bad number, and I was gonna be in a bad mood the whole day."

"On Tuesday, there were 4,000 apprehensions. I know that a thousand overwhelms the system. I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like, so we are truly in a crisis," Johnson explained.

Now, I'm not a lawyer, I don't even play one on the Internet, but if I'd been stuck in Reno having some guy shove fiber optics up my butt, I might stop by Cabela's on the drive home and buy a magazine or two that are larger than 10 rounds to celebrate.

Thanks be to the Great Prophet Zarquon for the 2nd Amendment.

I'm also happy that I didn't get rid of the magazines I've had since the '70's that were 13 rounds or larger... the judge that just struck down the thing is the guy that stayed Bustamonte from enforcing the ban that was to start July 1, 2017. Neither Brown nor Newsom have acknowledged loudly that yes, a federal court judge had rained on that parade.

Gregory

FYI it's been over four days since anyone (even Annie Fox) has left a comment at Pellini's sandbox. Those of you who pretend to like the guy might go over and say Hi. Especially with the return of large capacity magazines to the State of California, Jeff must be in bad shape.

Gregory: "...if I'd been stuck in Reno having some guy shove fiber optics up my butt, I might stop by Cabela's on the drive home and buy a magazine or two that are larger than 10 rounds to celebrate."

An excellent plan. If not a doctor, it would be the State of California doing it.

I always wondered what was going to happen to people who had rifles that they simply don't make 10 or less magazines for. Were you supposed to weld in a block or something?

Magazine size law is one of the stupider gun control measures I've run into although it's impossible to beat bayonet lug restrictions. At least there'd be a little intellectual honesty in a one round magazine limit.

Don Bessee

Well G it might be that there has been a lot of self medicating going on since Sunday. Barr letter and all and then there is this about people with lots of debt. Some things are becoming clearer -

Average error rates in the cognitive function tests fell to 4% after the debt was paid down, compared to a 17% error rate beforehand.

• The proportion of participants showing generalized anxiety disorders went from 78% to 53% after the debt relief.

• Numbers of people showing so-called “present bias,” which favors instant gratification, dropped to 33% from 44%, a sign that their impulse control had improved.

According to R. J. Rummel's book Death by Government (1994), about 110 million people, foreign and domestic, were killed by Communist democide from 1900 to 1987.[31] In 1993, Rummel wrote: "Even were we to have total access to all communist archives we still would not be able to calculate precisely how many the communists murdered. Consider that even in spite of the archival statistics and detailed reports of survivors, the best experts still disagree by over 40 percent on the total number of Jews killed by the Nazis. We cannot expect near this accuracy for the victims of communism. We can, however, get a probable order of magnitude and a relative approximation of these deaths within a most likely range".[18]

Well, of course they did. Foreign money in politics is legal if it’s foreign money in the press, lol. Like they say about Khashoggi: once a Qatari asset, always a Qatari asset.

From the Wa Compost
“Khashoggi also appears to have accepted significant help with his columns. Salem, the executive at the Qatar foundation, reviewed his work in advance and in some instances appears to have proposed language, according to a voluminous collection of messages obtained by the Post.’

and......

‘Other texts in the 200-page trove indicate that Salem’s organization paid a researcher who did work for Khashoggi. The foundation is an offshoot of a larger Qatar-based organization. Khashoggi also relied on a translator who worked at times for the Qatari embassy and the foundation.’

Another source:
“Rumors have floated inside the Beltway about the contents of Khashoggi’s text messages and, potentially, evidence of wire transfers from Qatar found at his residences in Turkey and in Virginia. The Post’s pre-Christmas release of this information is almost certainly in an effort to get ahead of a story that another outlet is pursuing, and frame some rather explosive revelations in the least damaging way.’

https://spectator.us/jamal-khashoggi-qatari-asset/

Heck, Bob Dole worked for a law firm that did PR work for Tiawan and the other Orange Man, aka, John Boehner, is on the board of Acreage Holding. Acreage Holdinga is all ready to roll out cannabis across 11 states (and Canada) once the class 1 drug no longer classified as such. In politics, Boehner was unequivocally opposed to changing pot from a Schedule 1 dope drug. But, give the man a fistful of dollars and a cut in the action, and he will sing a different tune, lol.
“I'm convinced de-scheduling the drug is needed so we can do research, help our veterans, and reverse the opioid epidemic ravaging our communities."—Boehner.

Reverse the opioid epidemic ravaging our communities by smoking dope? Rightttt. That’s a new one. Looks like Boehner has been sampling the wacky tobaccy. lol.

Another blog mentions the COSMOS program for four week science enrichment summer camps. Lectures by professors, but the kids mostly interact with high school science teachers paid $5k for four weeks of their time and no grading, "recharging their batteries" with kids who want to be there (or at least kids whose parents want them to be there).

It costs $4k for kids to attend. But priceless for a proud papa whose kid will be spending four weeks at UCSD learning (a life science/engineering program) and spending a month out of the house, and can crow about their kid being in a group of possible future leaders in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

At least the large blogger in question has dropped the A from STEM... perhaps the T and E will be next. Math and Science is what K-12 should focus upon.
