George Rebane
Pluralism is always favored by immigrant minorities who in their native countries will countenance none of it.
“All power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” – Mao Zedong. Our Left creates, supports, and inflames divisive (identity) cultures that produce high gun murder rates in order to promote ever stricter gun controls that will ultimately lead to confiscation, and remove, once and for all, a free people’s ability to rebel against the comprehensive command and control autocracy they promise to install. All power to the state!
Left-leaning author (Balkanized America) and journalist Colin Woodward in his ‘Welcome (Back) to the Divided States of America’ – “One would think our continent’s famed mobility — and the transportation and communications technology that facilitates it — would dissolve differences between these regional cultures. Paradoxically, it appears to be reinforcing it. As journalist Bill Bishop and sociologist Robert Cushing revealed in The Big Sort, for decades now, Americans who are relocating choose to move to communities where people share their values and worldview. As a result, the proportion of voters living in counties that consistently give landslide wins report — more than a 20 percent margin of victory — to one party increased from 26.8 percent in 1976 to 48.3 percent in 2004. The volume of people is significant and has benefited the GOP, with a net 13 million people moving from Democratic to Republican landslide counties between 1990 and 2006 alone. In doing so, they’re often moving between regional cultures as well and increasing the differences between them.” (emphasis mine)
The widespread recognition of this important dynamic in American demographics illustrates, by contrast, the profound ignorance of local grassroots leftwingers here and across the nation. An expanded analysis in ‘The Real Issue that Divides Us’ also illustrated how profoundly ignorant the grassroots Left is of anything beyond the simplistic slogans they receive from their national thought leaders.
Vaclav Smil’s Energy and Civilization: A History (2017) is one of the books I’m now in the middle of that is turning out to be quite an education. Those interested in energy issues should get this material under their belt. “Vaclav Smil is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Manitoba. He is the author of forty books, including Energy and Civilization, published by the MIT Press. In 2010 he was named by Foreign Policy as one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers. In 2013 Bill Gates wrote on his website that “there is no author whose books I look forward to more than Vaclav Smil.” More on him to come.
People who move for ideological comfort have more radical views than those at their destination. This works for both ends of the ideological spectrum. Locally here in Nevada County we have seen the influx in recent years of liberals with markedly more radical beliefs – i.e. ‘San Francisco values’ - than the liberals who lived here compatibly with the more conservative indigenous folks. (more here)
The 30apr19 Union (here) celebrates the formation of yet another organization to shield, succor, and provide a “safe space” for illegal aliens from US law enforcement authorities. The Sierra College’s new Undocumented Student Center is intended to fill this “need” as identified by local progressives in this sanctuary state. One wonders if there are other areas where violating US laws can be equally supported so visibly while thwarting law enforcement authorities in carrying out their duties. Perhaps setting up organizations that enable individuals with a wider range of capabilities and means to avoid the legal formalities and performance requirements in place, so that more people can enjoy well-paying sub-rosa careers as lawyers, physicians, various contractors, … ?
Fascism, in popular use by progressives today, is becoming more and more convoluted in how their meaning of it departs from the ideology’s origin and correct usage in former times. For a brief history of fascism, please review ‘Fascism – what it is and isn’t’. For the Left fascism is today’s catch-all label for any and all on the Right who oppose their form of socialism cum communism. However, for them to apply that label requires the promulgation of a polyglot of historical and factual lies. One of the latest leftwing pundits to arise in the last year is Umair Haque who writes on Medium, the new online outlet for millennial minds. Mr Haque’s prominent misunderstanding of fascism is fully displayed in his ‘Are Americans (Really) So Dumb They Don’t Know Fascism When They See It?’ Judge for yourself.
[1may19 update] “TRUMP WILL MEET WITH TOP ADVISERS TO DISCUSS PLANS TO CHALLENGE CLIMATE CHANGE REPORTS” Democrats, of course, are screaming bloody murder opposing an open debate about climate change that features scores of prominent scientists who are skeptics. Such a public conversation would give visible lie to the hysteria mongers who have long claimed that only ignorant knuckledragger “deniers” have problems with the cited science behind proclamations of imminent global catastrophe. (more here)
Speaking of leftwing liars and fake news. The NYT and WaPo have been pushing the story that Mueller wrote Barr criticizing him about the latter’s 24mar19 4-pager to Congress; that the Barr’s letter misrepresented the findings of Mueller’s report. Well, those sacks of s#!t are at it again with their blatant brown journalism (that’s a notch below yellow). You can read Mueller’s 27mar19 letter here. What I found a bit disturbing was that when Barr offered Mueller the chance to review his 4-pager, Mueller demurred. Nevertheless, after getting Mueller’s letter, Barr called Mueller during which telecon Mueller said that Barr’s 4-pager contained nothing that was inaccurate or misleading. Apparently, Mueller’s bitch was with the media’s characterization (i.e. spin) of the 18apr19 release of his redacted report along with Barr’s 4-pager.
[2may19 update] Rebane Doctrine immigration policy for the record. Genevieve Wood of the Heritage Foundation presents a summary of a correct US immigration policy in this short video. I have been promoting these principles/requirements for years.
Elizabeth Warren's 'Marshall Plan for America'. Here on Medium we have a communist hyper-ventilating on the "brilliant" proposals of proto-communist Warren. It's worth a read as a reality calibration on what many of today's Millennials have been taught to believe as we head into 2020. Seatbelts please.
‘Medicare for All’ is NOT Medicare at all as the Dems, led by Bernie Sanders, would like you to not notice. When it comes to major league lying, Trump is a piker and the Left have always been the champions. Today the Dems’ 20+ presidential candidates are each vying for the top spot as they deliver their stump speeches. Dr Robert Pozen of MIT’s Sloan School of Management lays out the proposition that “Democrats mislead voters by appropriating the name of a popular program they actually seek to abolish.” (more here)
[3may19 update] Help! A very interesting problem I'm working on runs into a fairly straightforward looking definite integral (shown below, a and b are constants) for which I need the closed-form analytical solution. Everywhere I've looked - Wofram Alpha, Matlab Symbolic Toolbox, CRC Math Formulas (33rd ed) - I draw a blank. Now I'm rummaging around with pencil and paper trying to noodle the anti-derivative(s) by hand; so far no joy. So I'm appealing to any of RR's technical readers who may be able to shed some light on this particular worm standing at attention.
The state odopts in charge are unAmerican and need to be fired. Elias has a good article today on how they don't give a rat's ass about what the people want. Mainly in death penalty issues, but Prop 187 and others things. Prop 13 is next and then increases in taxes without a vote.

I believe you were living in LA LA land during the 60's and early 70's so you are forgiven for not remembering the conflicts between the Anandanista's, the Ginsberg crowd and the "conservative indigenous" of our area. When was the last time you had the tires of your VW bus blown out by a redneck with a shotgun? With the notable exception of the bunker/survivalist mentality Tea Party types, I think the rancor of those times has mellowed a wee bit and the biggest societal change we've seen in the past decade has been fueled by meth and homelessness, not intellectual "SF values" - whatever those are.

"It has been evident from day one that there was a brazen plot to exonerate Hillary Clinton illegally, and then, if she lost the election, to frame Donald Trump. This [Steele] dossier was a knowing part of that. It was created by Hillary Clinton. It was created knowingly by [former CIA Director] John Brennan as part of a scheme to do everything they could to harm Donald Trump.
The problem for Brennan and [former Director of National Intelligence]Clapper and [former FBI Director] Comey and [former FBI General Counsel] Baker and all of them now is, is that the FISA Court has already communicated with the Justice Department about its findings. And their findings are that from more than four years before the election of Donald Trump, there was an illegal spying operation going on by FBI [private] contractors — four of them — to steal personal information, electronic information about Americans and to use it against the Republican Party.
There are going to be indictments. There’s going to be grand juries. John Brennan isn’t going to need one lawyer. He’s going to need five!"

Crunch time in the socialist paradise -
Trump threatens Cuba with 'full and complete' embargo, 'highest-level sanctions,' citing Venezuela role
Trump's dramatic threat came hours after his administration resoundingly endorsed an ongoing Venezuelan opposition effort, headed by Juan Guaido and Leopoldo Lopez, to spark a military uprising against embattled President Nicolas Maduro. The Trump administration also has worked to roll back Obama-era easing of Cold War sanctions on Cuba.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters Tuesday that Maduro had been on his way out of the country bound for Cuba, but that Russia told him to remain. Bolton, meanwhile, warned Russia against interfering.
The U.S. government said about 20,000 Cuban troops and agents have been working in Venezuela to prop up Maduro's government, a figure disputed by Cuba.

“All power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” – Mao Zedong
“MSNBC reporter Kerry Sanders accidentally made a strong case for the Second Amendment on Tuesday during a segment on the far-left network about the chaos in Venezuela.”
"You have to understand, in Venezuela gun ownership is not something that's open to everybody. So if the military have the guns, they have the power and as long as Nicolás Maduro controls the military, he controls the country."
“Guns would have served as a vital pillar to remaining a free people, or at least able to put up a fight," Venezuelan teacher Javier Vanegas told Fox News. "The government security forces, at the beginning of this debacle, knew they had no real opposition to their force. Once things were this bad, it was a clear declaration of war against an unarmed population."

Thanks for the link to U. Haque's stink piece. The author starts off with a bald faced lie, but that's par for the left.
The truth won't get them where they want so just start the lie machine and crank it til the handle falls off.
"I was greeted this morning by the spectacle of a President calling refugees and immigrants “animals” on Twitter."
Except he didn't. Notice there's no link.
The really amusing thing is that even if Trump had said that, it still wouldn't be fascism. But that was George's point in the first place. Fascism is just a funny old word to most people with bad connotations.
The masses have no idea what it means. It actually applies mostly to the left these days and they know it, so just wad it up and throw it back to see if it sticks. Throw enough mud and it always makes your target look dirty. Even if the dirt came from you.

The arrival in Nevada County of "San Francisco values" were, introduced, celebrated, and explained to us by the FUE. He should be the source of its salutary meaning; the rest of us see such values as being the cause of a great city's demise, and the visible detritus of its residue today.

“Here’s the reality. Democrats are angry at Mueller for not recommending obstruction charges, but they want to sell their votive candles on eBay, so they won’t hit Mueller. Instead, they’ll misdirect to Barr, then claim a cover-up that hasn’t happened. And Mueller would prefer that Barr be hit for declining to prosecute over Mueller himself being hit for – wait for it – declining to prosecute, which is effectively what Mueller did.”

This morning's Dem/NPR spin on reality -
1. The M report 'failed to indict' Trump on Russia collusion; no word about no evidence of collusion found.
2. The M report 'found plenty of evidence' on obstruction carried out by Team Trump.
3. Mueller disagrees with Barr's summary of report as 'inaccurate and incomplete', M's 27mar19 letter and subsequent B/M telecon not withstanding.
4. Barr refuses to testify before Congress, ignoring Senate testimony and being silent on the procedural disagreement between Barr and Nadler who wants hearing conducted like a criminal proceeding with staff lawyers questioning the AG.
Two different universes.

I will put this buried here: Re: speaking of leftwing liars and fake news.
It is now looking more and more that the contents of the Dossier was Russian propaganda fed directly to Steele to influence the election and sow discord. Russian intel knew that the FBI and Clinton Campaign were looking for dirt on Trump and Fusion GPS provided the Russians with the perfect vehicle to dissimulate Russian misinformation/disinformation to the US government and media.

Re: Leftwing liars and fakenews. Fear is the big one. Fear that they cannot impose their will and fear that they will be exposed for what they are.
“Do not underestimate how many powerful people in Washington have something to lose from Mr. Barr’s probe. Among them: Former and current leaders of the law-enforcement and intelligence communities. The Democratic Party pooh-bahs who paid a foreign national (Mr. Steele) to collect information from Russians and deliver it to the FBI. The government officials who misused their positions to target a presidential campaign. The leakers. The media. More than reputations are at risk. Revelations could lead to lawsuits, formal disciplinary actions, lost jobs, even criminal prosecution.
“The attacks on Mr. Barr are first and foremost an effort to force him out, to prevent this information from coming to light until Democrats can retake the White House in 2020. As a fallback, the coordinated campaign works as a pre-emptive smear, diminishing the credibility of his ultimate findings by priming the public to view him as a partisan.”

What strikes me today reading several conservative writers (some no fans of Trump) almost apologizing for having to write about the nonsensical Dem spin on Barr. Todd @ 8:04 pm.
And I agree with your agreement. :) And thanks for picking up and correcting my typo. Absurdity, not absorb. Total absurdity. I, like the writers I read this morning, just don’t feel like educating the Lefties no more or even posting another link refuting “ Barr is a traitor to the rule of law, the separation of powers, and our Democracy”. Just don’t have the desire or strength to educate them on the facts of life no more. Actually, it’s been that way for a while, just growing deeper everyday.
Let them live in everlasting fallacy. Reagan comes to mind. From memory, “It’s not that our friends of the Left are ignorant, it’s that they know so many things that are not so.”
From Jonah Goldberg’s blog. Encapsulates my feeling. Blah, blah, blah.
“Speaking of snitty — and I don’t mean the eighth dwarf — I really don’t want to write about the Bill Barr brouhaha bedeviling the Beltway Brahmins, but alliteration beckons and beguiles, perforce the professional pundit proceeds with perhaps pusillanimous, perchance pugnacious, pontification on the pending pertinent predicaments.
“Sorry, I won’t do that again.
“You know that feeling when you and your fellow Knights Templar are sitting around drinking absinthe-flavored Fresca watching turtles play chess, but no one else notices that the bigger turtle, which is actually a rare breed of parrot that likes to wear unlicensed Phish concert T-shirts, brings its queen out way too early? No wait, that’s a different feeling. A somewhat related one is when everybody is screaming about stuff you don’t think is scream-worthy.
“That’s how I feel about this Barr stuff. On the substance, I mostly fall in with my colleagues on this one. Bill Barr stands accused of a heinous cover-up. But he didn’t actually cover up anything. He wrote a letter that characterized the findings of the Mueller report in terms that were favorable to the president, but not inaccurate. The monster! He then released the report less than a month later with minimal and, by most objective accounts, perfectly reasonable redactions.”

Medicare for all
“But if you were listening, Sanders made some telling admissions. “You’re gonna pay more in taxes but your health care will be cheaper,” he said. For a long time now, Sanders has owed us an actually detailed explanation for how our health care is going to get cheaper under “Medicare for all,” and it hasn’t been forthcoming.”

Guess I will put this here. Said from the get-go that Mueller’s job was to bury evidence as much to investigate. Uncover, discover, discard. What does Mueller know that is not in the report? Good read.
“Little notice was made of Mueller’s apparent failure to investigate whether Russia interfered in the election by peddling phony intel to Steele that Steele relayed to the FBI, until Sen. Chuck Grassley raised the issue with Attorney General William Barr last week. During questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley pitched the issue as follows:
“The Clinton campaign and the Democrat National Committee hired Fusion GPS to do opposition research against candidate Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele, former British intelligence officer, to compile what we all know as the Steele dossier, that reportedly used Russian government sources for information. The Steele dossier was central to the now-debunked collusion narrative.
Now here’s the irony: The Mueller report spent millions investigating and found no collusion between Trump campaign and Russia but the Democrats paid for a document created by a foreign national with reported foreign government sources. Not Trump, but the Democrats. That’s the definition of collusion. Despite the central status of the Steele dossier to the collusion narrative, the Mueller report failed to analyze whether the dossier was filled with disinformation to mislead U.S. intelligence agencies and the FBI.
“My question,” Grassley continued: “Mueller spent over two years and 30 million dollars investigating Russia interference in the election. In order for a full accounting of Russia interference attempts, shouldn’t the special counsel have considered whether the Steele dossier was part of a Russian disinformation and interfere campaign?”

Mueller. How the Russian Collusion Delusion came about. Andrew McCarthy pieces it together, and like others, has been releasing it drabs as evidence comes it. My Gal is something else. Long read but worth it.

Peter worked on the Mueller team, so it’s on topic. :)
Me thinks Brennan doth protest too much.
“Think our sisters have begun leaking like mad. Scorned and worried and political, they’re kicking in to overdrive,” Strzok wrote Page.

Mueller report: failure to do assigned task.
“Why, then, did Mueller resort to terminology that is foreign to our criminal justice vocabulary? Flood’s answer is straightforward and difficult to dispute:”
