[Was going to intro this sandbox with a comment on the current Trump/Cummings imbroglio, but reader Todd Juvinall's comment in the last Scattershots covers it pretty well. "Elijah Cummings district is truly a shithole district. Most of the urban blight is contained in the areas represented by the Con Black Caucus. With over 40 members I have watched them most of my political years and they are as impotent (as) Steve Frisch. Their districts are shitholes. We see the same thing now in LA with the Hispanic Caucus. If they would cast off their leftist robes of failure and embrace Republican values and ideas they could revitalize their shitholes. But they won't. The press is siding with these failed politicians against Trump. He sure says what is true." gjr]

What is your view of the trillion dollar a year addition to the national debt under Trump? It was a major disaster in your view under Obama and the trend seems to be continuing.
You didn't care about it under Obama, you certainly wouldn't have given it a second thought under Clinton II, and you mocked the Tea Party types who actually did care about the issue Palooka.
Why should anyone care about your concerns about the matter now?

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA)’s campaign press secretary suggested Russia was behind Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) after she landed an effective blow on Harris’ record as a prosecutor during the Democrat debates on Wednesday night.
Her press secretary, Ian Sams, tweeted shortly after the attack an NBC News article from February 2019 claiming the “Russian propaganda machine” was promoting Gabbard:
“Reporters writing their stories with eyes on the modern-day assignment desk of Twitter, read this: ‘The Russian propaganda machine that tried to influence the 2016 election is now promoting the presidential aspirations of a controversial Hawaii Democrat,'” he tweeted. He later retweeted his tweet.

Darn. And here I was thinking that the “Russia, Russia, Russia” mantra had suddenly disappeared. Russia Russia Russia was all the candidates talked about for the past 2 1/2-3 years and then, for no apparent reason, Russia Russia Russia went inexplicably missing at the debates. How could such an important issue not be front and center after all the yapping about it with every breath?
But, I thunk wrong. Tulsi is in Putin’s pocket. Makes sense. It’s how the Clown Car and Unhinged respond after looking like a fool. Kamala is no exception. Now, imagine if Tulsi was white? Of my. Punchy delivered good news. I thought Trump should be down much more than 10 points this far out. Good news indeed. Love the underdog role. It’s familiar territory.
Well, if we are back to polls the day after the Dem’s second debate, that tells me last night went over like a lead ballon. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.
Most telling thing I read about last night is this quote about what the Lefties are thinking today:
“Based on watching almost six hours of D debates the last two nights, I have concluded 20 candidates is not enough. None of these candidates is any good.”
Back to polls. Down only ten. That is great news indeed. Distraction works.

Police shootings
“A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences demolishes the Democratic narrative regarding race and police shootings, which holds that white officers are engaged in an epidemic of racially biased shootings of black men. It turns out that white officers are no more likely than black or Hispanic officers to shoot black civilians. It is a racial group’s rate of violent crime that determines police shootings, not the race of the officer. The more frequently officers encounter violent suspects from any given racial group, the greater the chance that members of that racial group will be shot by a police officer. In fact, if there is a bias in police shootings after crime rates are taken into account, it is against white civilians, the study found......
“This effort to increase minority representation will not reduce racial disparities in shootings, concludes the PNAS study, since white officers are not responsible for those disparities; black crime rates are. Moreover, lowered hiring standards risk bad police work and corruption. A 2015 Justice Department study of the Philadelphia Police Department found that black officers were 67 percent more likely than white officers to mistakenly shoot an unarmed black suspect; Hispanic officers were 145 percent more likely than white officers to mistakenly shoot an unarmed black suspect. Whether lowered hiring standards are responsible for those disparities was not addressed.“

Man, the Dems’ long knives are out for Marianne Williamson. They are in their full take out mode. Hit job. They set her up with their typical trap and she, being being green and naive, walked right into in. Drive a stake through her heart and drive her out of the race.
She took information from White Nationalists! Dangerous! Scientologist! Kill her!! Orchestrated and coordinated. She did not have a chance . Probably though she could get a fair hearing with that bunch, lol. Mischaracterization machine is going after her for whatever reason. Did she say there was too much crime and shithole public school system in Baltimore? Dangerous! Data from White Nationalists!
Too bad, I liked the crystal worshipper and found her candor refreshing. Better than the others. Tulsi will be next, but she knows it’s coming and slapped MSNBC around when they tried to make her a Russian agent.

Baltimore and other shitholes.
“ According to their 2018 results, listed below are the top five most dangerous cities in America. Also noted is how long Democrats have controlled the city’s mayoral office and its respective congressional district.
Kansas City, Missouri (#5)—Democratic mayors for 28 years. MO-5 (D) for 70 years.
Memphis, Tennessee (#4)—Democratic mayors for 28 years. TN-9 (D) for 26 years.
Baltimore, Maryland (#3)—Democratic mayors for 52 years. MD-7 (D) for 66 years.
Detroit, Michigan (#2)—Democratic mayors for 57 years. MI-13 (D) for 70 years.
St. Louis, Missouri (#1)—Democratic mayors for 70 years. MO-1 (D) for 70 years.
As the old adage goes, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
At least one guy has put forth 5 ideas to help Baltimore, which is five more than the entire Democrat Party has put forth. The Dems have no ideas, just attack, attack, attack. Don’t think any one of the 5 ideas will ever fly, especially #2, better schools...and #5 and ......heck, all of them are DOA.
https://thefederalist.com/2019/08/01/5-real-solutions-troubled-cities-democrats-helped-cripple/
3 Baltimore mayors in a row have resigned in disgrace, the last one fled the state after the FBI raided her home.
Their solution to the problem is whenever Dem controlled shithole cities is mentioned, immediately point a finger is to call Trump a racist. That’s all they got. Deflect, distract, look the other way, and call somebody a racist. Blame racism. It has worked like a charm, Charm City pun intended.

Trump calls New Hampshire “infested”!! Racist!
https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-i-won-new-hampshire-because-its-a-drug-infested-den
“The New Hampshire comment drew ire from Democratic leaders as well as the state’s Republican governor on Thursday.”
“Democratic New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan called the remarks “disgusting.” “
“It’s absolutely unacceptable for the President to be talking about NH in this way – a gross misrepresentation of NH & the epidemic,” New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat, said in a tweet, calling for Trump to apologize.”
https://time.com/4885759/donald-trump-new-hampshire-drug-transcript/
Hmm. The claim that Trump reserves words like “infested” for black cities is negated by his use of the term for New Hampshire. The Granite State’s population is 93.9% white, according to the last census, and just 1.1% black. Baltimore is 62.9% black and whites make up 30.26% of the population.

Can anyone tell us why the black populations of our shithole cities are not out in the streets celebrating President Trump for finally shining a bright light on their deadly and dilapidated neighborhoods? 50 years of Dem rule have created, maintained, and expanded these derelict ghettos, and the govt funding programs have done nothing to make things better. Isn’t it time to try something different to start shutting down these plantations? But first you gotta call attention to them so everyone pays attention, and Trump has done that better than anyone in his own inimitable way. It’s time to make hay while the sun shines.

I would say that the typical person trapped in the hellholes are not political junkies or politically motivated. They are just trying to survive. Hopelessness and despair. They, like me, probably can’t even name most of their local representatives. The carpet baggers come and go, promise the moon, and nothing changes. And the worse part, the property values are so low, those with homes are trapped. Poverty causes crime, which the Left has ass backwards. They just have learned to live with it.
Getting angry and Burn Baby Burn of the 60’s only left burnt out building and destroyed the local shops and stores, some never to return. Heck, some of those building burned in the riots across the land in the 60’s are just vacant lots to this very day...decades later. No, the residents have lost the fire in their belly. The politicians make speeches, the residents just tune them out.
https://www.foxnews.com/media/lawrence-jones-detroit-crime-lawmakers-promises-man-on-street
This is not the Sixties. There are no theme songs, no new generation rallying songs, no feeling of revolution in the air. No People Power. No Movement. When you hoped things would get better for a couple of generations, one just loses hope and hope in smooth talking poverty pimps. Only the shells of one’s former self and former shadows of once great nice neighborhoods remain. Oh, a police shooting will get the community residents all riled up and all the frustration comes pouring out... but at the end of the day they return to their homes and nothing has improved....only got worse. Theirs is no central rallying cry to storm City Hall. So, their focus is on other things. Day to day things.

PaulE 1039am - Don't know whether you're prepared to talk about the impact of govt mangled housing markets (e.g. with regs, rent controls, and byzantine subsidies) have on the nature of the final product made available to suppliers, buyers, and renters. The liberal mind overwhelmingly shrinks from such complexities, and instead seeks a nonsensical simplification that gives comfort and supports their bigger govt narrative.
Yes, to the extent that Republicans have been the party of more open markets, the housing markets in big cities would have become much more responsive to the renters' demands and abilities to pay. Your characterization of Kushner as a 'profit-sucking bottom feeder' is a mis-simplification of the described complexities. Kushner is just one of many investors in companies that provide affordable housing in markets both mangled and blighted.
In reality, the Dem overlords of such cities are very happy to have someone in the private sector that will undertake the risk of supplying any kind of a roof over the heads of plantation dwellers. If they had a better alternative, they would have opted for it. It's the Kushner-investors who make available whatever there is today. And for those who pay attention, huge apartment blocks of govt-funded 'projects' invariably turn into worse shitholes of drugs, destitution, and death.
If you have better solutions, write your congress critters, broadcast them on KVMR, and I'll put them on RR.
