[Interesting discussion from the last sandbox on Baltimore, shithole cities, and the misguided attack on Kushner and other investors in companies willing to provide housing in crime and drug infested ghettos. The simple-minded accuse such investors of being "slumlords" with the same logic that investors (like me) can be accused of causing the opioid epidemic by investing in pharma companies or killing women and children in the mid-east wars by investing in defense industries. Go figger. gjr]

Don, you failed to mention that the unemployment rate for high school dropouts is also the lowest since they first started tracking the numbers.
—————-
First, a correction from the last box. CRIME causes poverty. The Left has it ass backwards.
Second, The Bigger Discussion Issue: Charges of Racism slams the door to having any real honest discussions concerning the problems and solutions in the one-party teacher union stranglehold shitholes.
Whenever the topic of the large city urban problems comes up (with 3rd World living conditions, squalor, corruption, graft, crime, pathetic schools, low to no economic vitality and opportunity) and the light is shined on the problem that the MOST vulnerable endure in these Dem controlled shitholes, the cry of “Racism!” drowns our everything. The discussion is stopped in its tracks. Shut the conversation down.
The Race baiters, politicians, and poverty pimps always point to the Oppressors as the cause of all their problems. And they are quick on the draw. And, of course, the opposers are always some other guy as you move up the chain of blame. No ownership. No coming together to fix the sucker. Blame some other dude. The ‘other dude did it’ chuck and jive.
In the current climate, the word ‘infestation’ is a now blatant undisguised word for racism. Tragic. Hollow charges of racism, which is the fall guy for everything...but only in Bad America and hurled by the con men. Where do you go from there? Nowhere. Discussion over. Dare not look this way.
Shine the light, Mr.Trump, and don’t let the bastards off the hook. A fantastic thing about Trump is he is willing to sustain political and personal damage if the Resistance sustains even more political damage. Then, and only after then, needed change and dialogue can commence. He will sustain damage to fix things. Most R’s and all Lefties cannot or will not take the risk to but America First. We need to look over the horizon, post Trump for the sake of our country.
People can see through this racial garbage, hyped by the media and Leftinistas whenever they read their ugly heads. Turn on the lights and the cockroaches scramble. About time for Trump put the cowboy boots on with those pointy toes so he and we can step on the cockroaches in the corners.
Spot on Dr. Rebane. Very complex problems do not lend the selves to simple “either or” answers or solutions. As things currently stand, the best we can hope for in a discussion with the Lefties goes something like this:
Lefty sez: “While we admit mistakes may have been made, we are convinced the other guy is more at fault! Fascists.” Pride is a prison.

Cities by ranking.
https://wallethub.com/edu/best-run-cities/22869/
Running a city is a tall order. The larger the city, the more complex it becomes to manage. In addition to representing the residents, local leaders must balance the public’s diverse interests with the city’s limited resources. That often means not everyone’s needs can or will be met. Leaders must carefully consider which services are most essential, which agencies’ budgets to cut or boost and whether and how much to raise taxes, among other decisions.
But how do we measure the effectiveness of local leadership? One way is by determining a city’s operating efficiency. In other words, we can learn how well city officials manage and spend public funds by comparing the quality of services residents receive against the city’s total budget.
Using that approach, WalletHub compared the operating efficiency of 150 of the largest U.S. cities to reveal which among them are managed best. We constructed a “Quality of Services” score made up of 37 metrics grouped into six service categories, which we then measured against the city’s per-capita budget. Read on for our findings, expert insight and a full description of our methodology.

Yup, This is going to work out well.
Is Berkeley paying attention?
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/sweden-biggest-cities-face-power-040000499.html
"(Bloomberg) -- Sweden’s introduction on Thursday of a tax aimed at phasing out the nation’s last remaining coal and gas plants to curb global warming comes with an unintended consequence for some of its biggest cities.
Hiking threefold a levy on fossil fuels used at local power plants will make such facilities unprofitable and utilities from Stockholm Exergi AB to EON SE have said they will halt or cut power production.
The move means that grids in the capital and Malmo won’t be able to hook up new facilities including homes, transport links and factories. While Sweden doesn’t have a shortage of power, there’s not enough cables to ship it to the biggest cities.

WINNING!
CNSNews.com) - The number of people employed in the United States hit a record 157,288,000 in July, according to the employment report released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That was up 283,000 from the 157,005,000 employed in June.
The unemployment rate held steady in July at 3.7 percent, the same as it was in June.
According to the employment report, the civilian noninstitutional population in the United States was 259,225,000 in July. That included all people 16 and older who did not live in an institution (such as a prison, nursing home or long-term care hospital). Of that civilian noninstutional population, 163,351,000 were in the labor force, meaning that they either had a job or were actively seeking one during the last month. That equaled a labor force participation rate of 63.0 percent--an increase from 62.9 percent in June.
Of the 163,351,000 who were in the labor force, 6,063,000 were unemployed, equaling an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent.
The other 157,288,000 did have jobs, yielding last month’s record number of people employed.

Walt 4:05 - Wow - what a coincidence! Boise is number 3!
Perhaps Paul should go back and read the thread on my praise of downtown Boise. It isn't just the R or D after the civic leaders' names. It's the culture and general attitude of the populace. There is no reason for anyone to spray paint crap on public or private property and no reason for the populace to tolerate it. Boise does have an alley downtown where taggers, artists and whatnots can have all the fun they want. It's a designated place for it and very accessible for viewing by anyone who wants to look at it. Outside of that area, it's not tolerated. Because once it starts and no one stops it, a lot of other anti-social behavior sets in. Based on the "broken windows" policing theory.
https://cebcp.org/evidence-based-policing/what-works-in-policing/research-evidence-review/broken-windows-policing/
There are a lot of moving parts in keeping a city orderly and a place where folks want to live. Petty crime is not petty if it is endemic and ongoing.
Boise does have an issue with the homeless - in fact, it was Boise that pushed the issue of a city govt having the right to not tolerate vagrancy.
https://www.curbed.com/2019/4/5/18296772/homeless-lawsuit-boise-appeals-court
Even though Boise lost the lawsuit, you will not see people camping out downtown in the streets. The idea that Boise or any other municipality was trying to "criminalize" homelessness is BS. They are saying you don't have the "right" to make the public areas into your toilet and campground. Businesses have spent too much money in setting up their store fronts to let some bum make a crap-hole in front of their store.
I think it gets down to something called common sense. Left-led cities don't seem to have any and conservative cities do.

Jacksonville, FL is the largest city in America and almost entirely dominated by Republican politicos. Want crime? Go to Jacksonville, Want homelessness? Go to Jacksonville. "The meeting was how can we help the black community," Owens said. "That was my concern. That was the purpose of the meeting. That is the reason why I came to Washington and that is my focus, helping our inner city young people especially, our children, our young people."
BEN SHAPIRO CALLS CNN'S DON LEMON A 'JOKE,' SAYS HE SHOULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT INSTEAD OF MODERATING
After taking a moment to aggressively press Owens over his criticisms of President Obama for supporting same-sex marriage, the "CNN Tonight" host pivoted back to the president allegedly being "racist."
"I know it’s hard for you. You think it’s hard to believe that Trump is racist," Lemon said. "But he’s repeatedly used racially charged language. He consistently attacks black and brown elected leaders. So, why is that hard to believe, Pastor?"
"I find President Trump [attacks] leaders of all colors. He attacks who he will. He’s his own man," Owens shot back. "I can’t dictate what he should or should not do. But he does not just attack black people. He attacks anybody. And you know it."
Lemon then appeared to question Owens' faith and suggested the pastor was "condoning" Trump's attacks.
"So as a man of faith, as a Christian, you're saying he attacks anyone. It sounds like you’re condoning attacks? Is that Christianly or Godly?" the host asked.
"I'm just stating a statement of fact," Owens replied. "I’m not condoning anything. I'm stating a statement of fact. President Trump does not pick the people he attacks because of color. He attacks anybody he feels needs it ... I’m not his judge."

Per Walt’s fantastic 4:05 pm link; Best run cities.
Looks like CA scores 100% on the worse roads for big cities in the entire 57 (Obamaspeak) states. 5 out of 5 for the worse roads. Batting a thousand. Not to mention taking the prize for being at top of the turd pile for the worse 5 smoggiest cities, all run by liberal veghead banana brain Socialists greenies.
Predictions: Trump is loaded, armed with facts, and ready to pounce on CA. Did you notice his tweet about “what happened to the highway funds “ for our terrible roads BEFORE he launched into the terrible shithole cities run by Demorats and all those missing billions that they can’t account for. What did they do with all that HUD money? What did they do with the 16 billion in HUD community block grants alone in 2018 or the 1.6 billion more this year? Hmmm. Riddle me that, Graft Man.
Prediction: When the time comes and the moment is right, Trump will ask what happened to all those highway funds and gas taxes that were supposed to go to fixing our roads in CA??????? Place is run like a shithole. Terrible.
Yea, what happened to those funds? Were they spent on the Leftinista Brown Streak pipe dreams nonsense and windmills, or simply used to meet payroll and benefits for the slackers on the government dime? Maybe to pay all those thousands who meet once or twice a year to sit on state commissions. Doling our the favors. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. Where is the accountability?
Boy, Democrat controlled shitholes are looking more and more like that shithole Puerto Rico. I can hear the popinjays now: “Oh the poor people. It’s not their fault that their Democrat leaders stole all the money meant for them. Cut another check. It’s not their fault.” Come on, cut more checks and keep the corruption gravy train rolling. Come on, let’s get back to normal. Trump is a racist! And a bully!!

Speaking of mentally ill women. Check out Pelline's for a press release by Senum written in the third person about . . . Senum.
It appears that a cloud of collective amnesia has settled over this group. The topic was started by Paul:
"George, Can you name a few Republican led cities that are being governed in a manner that you approve? You know what I mean, the opposite of a shit hole in your view.
Rebane's 5:30 "I'm not aware of any large urban areas that have been under Republican governance for any length of time."
Followed by my aid to Rebane's ignorance, "Jacksonville".
But of course that is all forgotten in the rush to obfuscate Paul's query and Rebane's reply. The Republican way.

Re shithole cities - what point are our progressives here trying to make? that Republican led cities are equally blighted to those under Democrat control? Now that's a very large crock.
And what is the point about Jacksonville anyway? Here's a list of the 25 highest crime rate cities in the land. I don't see Jacksonville on it.

What is the point about Jacksonville anyway? Doo Dah, Doo Dah.
Rebane's 5:30 "I'm not aware of any large urban areas that have been under Republican governance for any length of time."
Does Jacksonville count as a large urban area under Republican governance or do you simply choose to gaslight Paul when he brings up something that discomforts your state of right wing bliss?
Posted by: Jig Wiggly | 02 August 2019 at 09:10 PM
Yeah - what the wiggly pig said!
Go back and read his 6:07 - It turns out Jacksonville is not the largest city in the US and all the rest is just spittle blowing.
No facts or stats.
Jacksonville is run by not-Democrats.
So?
We were talking about the vast majority of major shit-hole cities in this country run by Democrats.
And the left can't deny the facts or come up with any factual counter other than to point out that the 5th largest city in the US by area is controlled by Rs.
OK.
So?

Jigger
I will have to take your word for it. I refuse, refuse I say, to ever peek at Fat Fuk’s blog again. Last time I checked it out he had a picture of a glass of water with a fruit slice. Big picture front and center. Whole story on the glass of water. It was in Italy or somewhere and instead of nice scenery of the area, the shit for brains took a picture of a glass of water and wrote a column about it!,!!!! Unbelievable. Who does that? That is not normal. Freaky. Fly all the way to Europe and features a glass of water. I guess it’s better than having to look at him on the beach. Always a silver lining.
But, Mr. Smith (joe and jon), you missed the key qualifier again, per your diminished capacity, Mr. Handicap Man. The key is run by “Democrats for a long long time” Take San Diego. It goes right, it goes left. Pete Wilson town. Probably blue now with a mixed city council. Mixed with turnovers, left and right. UCSD is not UC Berkeley. Whole different universe. Heck, that San Diego region was where in 2014 the citizens went out to block the buses of unaccomphanied minors Obama flew in, that race hustler. And the San Diego keeps the illegals moving on. Keep moving. Send them to LA and get the criminal element out of that area. When the SD big fires hit, it was calm and orderly...as opposed to shithole cities when disaster strikes. Big difference.
Austin is now a blue city, as is Denver. But, we don’t call them shitholes because they have not been run by brain dead liberals for 50 years. It takes years to destroy a nice American city. What the heck happened to St Louis? Memphis? Charm City? Someday Denver will be the outhouse of the old west...but it takes time. That’s the key.
I cannot think of one big city run by Republican for long long stretches of time that is a National Embarrassment like EVERY single city run for a couple of generations by Tin Foil Hat corrupt Leftinistas. Sorry, I can’t think of one. I would not be surprised if there is one or two out there out of a couple hundred big cities. There is always an anomaly. Always one in every large crowd....just like His Lardship. Without weird one-offs, we would not have the freak shows at traveling circuses or His Assholiness. I
But, knock yourself out and send reports back from The FUE’s non-blog. I just don’t get woodies over a pic or a glass of water. If I did, Insure as heck would not share it with the world, cherry picker.

Jacksonville. #95 on the list.
Stockton.#145.. #5 biggest shithole on the list.

"Technology Review reported on Thursday, citing major Spanish newspaper El País, that biologist Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, who presently works out of the Salk Institute in California, is working with Chinese scientists to create “human-animal chimeras” composed of human cells injected into monkey embryos."

The point here is rather than Punchy looking at the stats and facts, he does what he always does: deflect. When you pin him down, he says he will get back to you....and never does. I just attribute it to the poor tortured soul going through life with one oar in the water. Elevator does not go all the way to the top. Maybe the boxer took one to many blows to the head and was left with permanent brain damage. It’s not that uncommon. And, it’s not nice to pick on the mentally challenged. It’s not his fault, he seems to have been born that way.
To borrow a line from the Sage of South Central (another shithole)....
Q: "You would agree that 2 + 2= 4?"
A. "Oh, stop with the republican talking points."
Change my mind.

“The trouble with Trump’s tweets about Baltimore is they that they are true
But rather than focus on whether or not Trump is a racist, how about we focus on the man’s words? Are they true?
Yes, they are.
In all, Cummings has represented Baltimore for 36 years.
In 2017, 13 high schools in the city of Baltimore were found to have zero students — not a single one — who were proficient in math. And out of the 3,804 students in all who took the state math proficiency test, only 14 were proficient.
Baltimore’s schools perform this poorly despite the fact that residents of Baltimore pay 3.2% city income tax, the maximum local income tax rate allowed by state law in an already high-tax state. Take that as further proof that throwing money at problems doesn’t necessarily solve them.
Crime in Baltimore is, simply put, out of control. With over 2,000 violent crimes per 100,000 people, in the year 2017 Baltimore was well within the most dangerous 1% of U.S. cities
A 2018 video has surfaced of Pugh touring her miserable city and nearly gagging on her own words as she exclaimed, “You can smell the rats … Oh my God, you can smell the dead animals.”
As a black American pundit, I am often asked whether I think Trump is a racist. I do not, but the answer I always give is that I don’t care. What I care about is the truth.
Baltimore is steeped in squalor, and the black community there bears the brunt of its inept, corrupt political leadership. Trump hasn't had time to cause that in his less than three years in office. But in less than three seconds, his tweet has shone a glaring spotlight onto it, and that bright light is causing the rats to scurry..”

Every time we have a shooting you guys say something like, "It's too early to talk about gun control right now. We need to cool off. Too emotional still" Well, these are happening with such frequency, maybe it's time YOU suggest just how much time we should take to "cool off" before "making points".
Trump-inspired white supremest shooters are becoming a dime a dozen, yet EVERY FUCKING TIME you have an excuse that "He's not one of us." Bullshit.

Yeah well if the shoe fits....and the shoe fits. I can't help it if he is a right wing kook whose rhetoric fits a hell of a lot of what gets said here.
His idea that we should create a confederacy of like minded and cultural homogeneous communities in order to protect our culture sounds kind of familiar.
To say that the rhetoric of our President does not exacerbate these risks is nonsense.
And no, people will not be waiting for the bodies to get cold anymore because the mass shootings are coming so frequently the bodies never have a chance to cool down.
Posted by: Steven Frisch | 03 August 2019 at 04:31 PM
Let’s wait until the blood is mopped up until we get to pointing fingers. Last week it was the Gilroy Festival and some idiot (Rock Humper the woman hater) ran over here blaming some White Supremacist/Conservative/ Nazi material (and all of us here by extension), only to find out it was a book from 1897.
Before that it was the Christchurch shooting and the 170 page manifesto had one sole reference to Trump, and not flattering terms. Heck, aren’t t we coming up on the 50th Anniversary of the Charlie Manson murders, inspired by the Beatles’ Helter Skelter to start a race war? And in between was blaming Sarah Palin for the target with bulls eye literature of vulnerable Dem districts for the reason Gabby got plugged in the mellon. Or did everybody blame Rush Limbaugh?
At least Steve said “if”. At first glance, the shooter fits the profile. Young, male. Excluding Islamic Terrorism, all of the US mass shooters in history, save one, was not raised by his biological father. From Combine to Sandy Brooke to the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, all were on anti-depressants (head meds) and spent copious amounts of time playing video games of the violent nature. Time will tell.
But, the above words are a waste of time. It’s all my fault. It’s all Trump’s fault. There, saved ya’ll the time. I do consider the hundreds of thousands surging our borders as an ‘invasion’, a term the shooter used. See, I am the cause. Heck, they had to use tear gas more than once just in the past 10 days as the illegals were attempting to storm the border ;again). Blame me, you are going to do it anyway. It is also a waste of time to once again say that no NRA member has ever been involved in such tragedies.
It would be wise to let the bodies become room temperature first and let the investigation run it’s course on this sad day before running over here with an erection playing the blame game. That last statement was also a waste of time.
Me thinks the shooter violated the law.

Are you feeling well? We're talking about El Paso Texas, your favorite free fire zone. El Paso, where people pack guns like car keys. Yep, walk tall in Texas.
At least Bill has a starting point from which we can talk gun control. "When the blood's wiped up."

Let’s not forget Spartacluz illegally walking across the border and escorting illegals into the US. Those kind of actions incite people. Heck, it’s against the law for me or any US citizen to enter the USA outside a port of entry. Yes, Beto and Spartacluz incited the shooter and drove him over the edge. That and Eric Swalwell’s divisive inflammatory talk about confiscating everybody’s guns.
Time for the Socialists to tone down their rhetoric. Way pass time.

At our sea boundaries local traffic crossing back and forth over an invisible border line is not a concern. What they monitor is non-local traffic from a distance heading for our border that is picked up, tracked, and intercepted when it crosses into our waters.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross will outline Washington's plans to help rebuild Venezuela in the event President Nicolas Maduro leaves - at a conference in Lima next week, a senior U.S. administration official said on Friday.
The official declined to give any details about U.S. President Donald Trump's vague warning on Thursday of a blockade for Venezuela, but said that Maduro should view Trump's comments as a sign he should take advantage of ongoing talks in Barbados to come up with an "exit plan," the official said.

Speaking of Venezuela -
HOUSTON (Reuters) - The board of Citgo Petroleum [PDVSAC.UL] appointed by Venezuela's congress chief was properly seated, a U.S. court ruled, dealing a blow to contested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's efforts to retake control of the Texas-based refiner.
Venezuelan congress chief Juan Guaido's recognition by the Trump administration as the South American country's legitimate leader makes his Citgo appointments valid, Delaware Chancery Court Vice Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick ruled on Friday.
The ruling provides U.S. court backing for Guaido as the country's official leader with power to name directors of Citgo and its parent, Petroleos de Venezuela [PDVSA.UL] (PDVSA).

Good Doc @ 5:48 pm
I was referring to Spatacluz walking across the border on land and escorting illegals in at a non point of legal entry. Sparacluz,, being a typical liberal like Jigger, only thinks he can walk on water. Also, I can’t see Spartacluz swimming across the Rio Grande or Niagara Falls to being them in. The camera crew would have difficulty and the Virtue Signaling visuals would be worse than his original Spartacluz moment at the Kavanaugh Witch-hunt.
Be that as it may, it is not unfair nor partisan to say the Left historically has had a Big problem with LE and law enforcement in general. Big problem. It’s in their DNA. Laws are for other people to follow, not them....be they in or out of power.
If no one is above the law, does that apply to illegal aliens? If not one is above the law and it is against the law for an employer to hire illegals, then why do illegals in CA need drivers licenses to drive to work???
