Ahhhhhhh, fresh kitty litter! -

The far-left New York Times caved to the leftist Twitter mob with a major switch in headlines between its first and second editions.
The first print edition’s headline read, “Trump Urges Unity Vs. Racism.”

But after the Blue Checkmark Mafia freaked out, the Times caved with a late edition headline that reads, “Assailing Hate But Not Guns.”

Punchy has no interest actually discussing any hot button issue.

For a cool button issue, the County Fair starts tomorrow, and the forecast daily high temps range from 77 to 85.

Blame climate change.

A guy shoots two people per second over 24 seconds, and when he's done, half of them are dead. Seems reasonable enough that the fellow can waltz into a neighborhood store and and then waltz right back out armed with a weapon of this capacity and capability. It's his right. Damn right.

It's not his fault though. His daddy found greener pastures and lit out when he was just a baby to be raised by his discarded mother all by herself.

Don Bessee

If it were not for double standards they would have none at all -

While it is true that the El Paso gunman allegedly posted an anti-immigration manifesto filled with bigoted vitriol, the writer said his twisted thoughts predated Trump. The Dayton shooter, on the other hand, was an avowed leftist who seemingly supported Antifa and held anti-ICE, anti-police, and anti-Second Amendment views, according to a Twitter account linked to the gunman. He also had a liking for Warren herself, writing in one tweet that he would “happily” vote for the Massachusetts senator. Warren has not delved into the Dayton shooter’s purported support for her. Rather, the mainstream media have rallied behind her, urging critics to refrain from implicating Warren.

AV Idiot 11:52 - try reading past the headline. Already collected 20 B. vs 28 B 'committed' to farmers. The amount from tariffs will increase while the amount committed to farmers will not. And the article won't go into the industries aided by not having to compete unfairly with China, who started this trade war decades ago.
Nice try.

Scott O

Poor Jiggy - "A guy shoots two people per second over 24 seconds, and when he's done, half of them are dead."
What rate of fire and ratio of deaths to injury are then acceptable to you, Jiggy?
"It's not his fault though."
Yes it is.
A fair trial and a public hanging would be the best outcome at this point.

Gregory

"We're gonna give you a fair trial, followed by a first class hanging."
-Sheriff Cobb, "Silverado" 1985

In the absence of a modern total police and surveillance state, we"ll just have to rely on the old fashioned standby of waiting for a crime to occur.

But of course, Cobb was a bad guy, a corrupt Sheriff, killed in the end in a fair fight with the good guy with a gun, so there's something for everyone.

Just yesterday boss hypocrite hawg Juvinall said it was the lack of morals and the loss of the nuclear family to blame for gun violence and others yipped in agreement that it was the proliferation of children in fatherless households that were to blame. I guess it boils down to infidelity. The Muslims aren't so far off when they blame the infidels. Slow learner are we, Jiggy?
The noted trends in society are helping to fuel the greater number of young males that feel the need to act out in mass shootings. That does not absolve the shooters from personal responsibility for their own actions.

Despite my loathing for fathers without morals who ditch their families, I don't quite buy your "dad isn't home" theory.

History is replete with societies whose entire generations of military aged males are lost to war and the young are raised in fatherless households, yet mass shootings don't seem to be an expression of acting out among these children as they grow to be men.

Its the economy stupid! -

Reviving American manufacturing and restoring jobs for workers in the sector were key campaign promises of Donald Trump during the 2016 election cycle. While there is room for debate as to who should get credit for what is now the longest economic expansion in American history, it is clear from the data that Trump’s presidency has coincided with a boom in manufacturing jobs.

When President Trump put tariffs on steel and aluminum, critics predicted the higher costs of metals would weigh on U.S. manufacturers and cost U.S. factory workes their jobs. The ongoing strength of the U.S. labor market, particularly in manufacturing, has undermined this line of criticism.

Job openings in durable goods manufacturing came in at 319,000 for the month, in line with May’s revised 320,000. Prior to Donald Trump’s election, unfilled jobs in this sector had not exceeded 220,000 since before the last recession.

Nondurable goods manufacturing openings held steady at 183,000.

The number of unfilled jobs in the overall economy fell slightly in June to 7.35 million, down from 7.38 million the previous month. May was revised up from an initially reported 7.32 million, indicating the labor market was even stronger than thought. Both figures are close to record highs. June’s figure was 1.37 million above the number of unemployed

The killer wore a dress and was a woman hater just like Rock Humper. I see a pattern emerging. No wonder he shot his sister. He, like many Lefties here, had serious misogynistic issues.

“Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts was reportedly the lead singer of a misogynistic “pornogrind” metal band called Menstrual Munchies — which released songs about rape, murder, necrophilia and other gruesome acts against women.

“The band added, “JUST ANOTHER DIME A DOZEN OHIO GRIND DUDE WHO CAPED PROGRESSIVE POLITICS WHILE TREATING WOMEN LIKE SHIT.”

“Betts was described by his bandmate as a loner who spoke about being depressed. Creekbaum confirmed reports of the alleged “hit-lists” Betts made of classmates he wanted to rape, kill and skin — saying the young man told him about them.

“I think he decided that he was going to kill himself, and he was like, ‘I don’t have the balls to do it’ and he drew a gun,” Creekbaum said.“

Everybody has what they think is a solution. One commentator puts out a list, others say that wouldn’t work. Even the mental health industry is pushing back. Here is an interesting take:

It’s Not Guns Or Mental Illness. The Problem Is Deeper Than That.

“At bottom, the answer is that we have become a country filled with numb, detached, and desensitized people. Mass shootings are the ultimate manifestation of that detachment. Our reaction to them — rhetorically slinging dead bodies at each other to score points in a political argument — is a slightly less severe but very much related manifestation. A survivor of the El Paso shooting reports that the shooter casually smirked before unloading on a crowd of innocent people. This echoes many other reports from many similar shootings. The killer is always smirking like he's slightly amused, or else he's blank-faced and emotionless. Rarely do you get a picture of someone running around enraged and screaming. We call these acts of "hate," but they are much more acts of brutal, murderous indifference. These are empty, numb, detached people slaughtering their fellow humans because they are bored and frustrated with their meaningless lives.

“But this only kicks the can another mile down the road. If it is detachment and desensitization causing these attacks, the next question is, what causes the detachment and desensitization? The culprits here are manifold, but the internet has to be one of the first places we look. Though it has of course existed for several decades, the internet has only been ubiquitous for the past two. The rise of social media is even more recent than that. As with any massive societal shift, we will not fully understand its effects until we are a good distance from it. But it's already fairly clear that our cyber space obsession causes us to be increasingly detached from the physical world and each other. It's a cliche to point out that our connectedness has made us disconnected, yet there's truth to most cliches, and this one is no different.”

You cant. Not all of them.
But you can limit or mitigate them.
We need an all of the above approach- including:
1) expanded red flag laws
2) mental health resources/outreach
3) addl law enforcement cyber resources to infiltrate extremist chats and monitor radicalization hubs
4) concealed carry laws and training for onsite personnel at major gathering points

CNN CHANGES CHYRON FROM 'FAITH LEADERS' TO 'CONTROVERSIAL PASTOR' AFTER REVEREND WON'T CRITICIZE TRUMP

“When Owens said he did not remember Trump saying anything about leaders of color, Lemon pushed further, asking if any pastor there raised "concerns about what he has been saying lately about people like Elijah Cummings or anyone."

“Owens said "that was not the purpose of the meeting" and that it was actually to discuss how to help the black community.

“Lemon then asked if there was any concern that Trump "used this meeting with black leaders to insulate himself form black criticism."

“I don't think so," Owens said. "I don't think that all because I've been to the White House four times in five months so it was nothing about insulating." The pastor reiterated that Trump wanted to hear from the faith leaders to see what he could do to help.

Hmmm. Drill down 10,000 feet (almost two miles) into the ice and what does the temperature record tell us of the last 400,000 years? It tells us that Warming preceded increases in CO2 by an average of 800 years. Makes sense. Warmer climate would mean more vegetation growing and more CO2. It’s that causation or correlation?

Call me a dummy, but I ain’t sold on rising CO2 “CAUSES” climate change.

“Our analyses of ice cores from the ice sheet in Antarctica shows that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere follows the rise in Antarctic temperatures very closely and is staggered by a few hundred years at most,” explains Sune Olander Rasmussen, Associate Professor and centre coordinator at the Centre for Ice and Climate at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen.”

I can second a lot of the above reasons we are seeing increased casual acts of horrible violence. The reasons are manifold. Society has drifted into 'progressive' waters and we are reaping the benefits.
For decades I've heard all sorts of people from college profs to bar stool pundits smirk that Christianity is just a way to 'control' people.
Well folks - we've definitely freed our society from that control.
How's that working out?
Kids are now raised in schools that teach nihilism and that morals are just social constructs. And our new morals are just social constructs. Why shouldn't kids feel they can construct their own? Human life itself is no longer sacred - skin color, age and other factors can now be considered more important. If a human life is inconvenient, why not just end it?
This whole mess is hopeless - the Dems and now even the Rs are going along with this whole "NATION UNDER SIEGE"
mentality. I read about people afraid to go out to the store. Total madness. And frightened people are easy to gull into signing away their rights. Most all of the proscriptions from the left would not, in any way have forestalled the mass killings we have seen. Doesn't matter, just scream and yell about Trump and go after the NRA. In other words, the left is just looking for votes and more political power. Standing on the dead bodies while spouting one lie after another is great fun - watch them do it.

"the science that rising CO2 causes climate change." is not valid.

STUDY FINDS NO EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE OF AGW
A new paper by Jyrki Kauppinen and Pekka Malmi, at Finland’s University of Turku argues no experimental evidence confirms anthropogenic climate change.

The authors do not count projections made by climate models as evidence of climate change because, they note, climate models often disagree with each other and have a range of sensitivity estimates of a doubling of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere from “very close to zero while the highest ones are even 9 degrees Celsius for a doubling of [carbon dioxide]. The majority of the papers are using theoretical general circulation models (GCM) for the estimation. These models give very big sensitivities with a very large uncertainty range. Typically sensitivity values are between 2–5 degrees.”

According to Kauppinen’s and Malmi’s research, changes in cloud cover, a factor climate modelers are unable to replicate, account for most of the warming experienced since 1983, just before fearmongering about human caused global warming began.

“Experimental observations indicate that [a] 1 percent increase of the low cloud cover fraction decreases the temperature by 0.11 degrees Celsius,” says the paper. “This number is in very good agreement with the theory given in the papers. Using this result we are able to present the natural temperature anomaly by multiplying the changes of the low cloud cover by −0.11 degrees Celsius.”

Kauppinnen and Malmi show changes in low cloud cover, and other natural factors like shifts and ocean currents and volcanic eruptions, account for or track the changes—increases, declines, and periods of relative stasis—in global average temperatures since 1983, leaving no room for greenhouse gases to be a contributing factor. In short, holding other factors equal, when low cloud cover declines recorded temperatures have risen, though less than climate models assuming carbon dioxide as a driver of temperatures have predicted. And when low cloud cover has increased on average globally, temperatures have declined or stabilized, despite an ongoing increase in carbon dioxide.

The researchers conclude, “[d]uring the last hundred years the temperature is increased about 0.1 degrees Celsius because of carbon dioxide. The human contribution was about 0.01 degree Celsius,” which is hardly the majority of the temperature increase the earth has experienced over that time period.

If this research is correct, it puts the lie to the supposed 97 percent consensus claim that human greenhouse gas emissions have accounted for the majority of the increase in temperatures over the past century.

Actually there many countries with far higher rates of violence and murder. We are hardly in the lead for mayhem.

L

Correlation is a very common, but not sufficient, element of causation.

Todd Juvinall

O have always thought that American criminals are unique in that they are practicing in a country of almost unlimited freedoms. So human nature lets those rascals who do hatm have more opportunity to do so. In other cultures there is way less freedom and more pressure on "rights" so people do less crime.

A criminal in Singapore that peddles dope is executed quite rapidly while in the USA he gets three squares a day, and counseling.

And Trump fell for the lefty trick of telling the world he opposes "white nationalism" as asked for by the left. Only to then be trashed for not being believed by them. You cannot make the left happy regardless and he should simply tell them to kiss his ass.

Todd Juvinall

Democrats in America have lost their minds and in my opinion, they are becoming dangerous. They say Trump's rhetoric is the problem. Sorry, I have not heard him say anything like these democrats are saying. Their words are vile, violent and unAmerican. Trump has never said anything racist yet this is said by the left. In my view, they are projecting. They are claiming Trump and we supporters are doing and saying what the left is actually saying and doing. The killers from the weekend were not inspired by anyone, Trump or Warren. But somehow the clown car democrats for President blamed Trump and called him vile names. And nothing about Warren in the lamestream media These democrats cannot get elected to third-grade class President. Can you imagine if any of these unhinged democrats had the nuclear button? My goodness, they are simply unqualified and morons to boot.

It appears to me that Obama's strategy to divide America is working. He practiced the Alinsk protocols of name-calling and division. He is a racist as are these democrats, top to bottom. They are the ones America needs to keep track of and make sure they never gain power over us politically. They are dangerous and divisive and they hate "white people". Now I wonder about the conundrum of their white liberal supporters? The left has finally shown their traitorous policies and behaviors and we must defeat them at every opportunity. If the country wants to avoid becoming California we have to speak out and turn out to the polls and keep these seditionists from gaining power. Energize and organize for freedom and anti-socialism. If we don't we will become slaves and cannon fodder again. Keep these lefty oligarchs out of power and our pockets.I hope you agree.

Not surprised to find this load of crap on Yubanet.
https://yubanet.com/usa/there-is-no-evidence-of-a-link-between-mental-health-and-gun-violence-says-amnesty/

You have to be one "F"ed in the head individual to decide to go out on a killing spree.

"There is no evidence of a link between mental health and gun violence. Individuals with mental illness are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Only 5% of fire-arm related deaths were committed by someone with a diagnosed mental illness."

So in general, you just need to be Liberal. (Since MOST mass killers have been found to be of that political bent)

J. Barron

No 8:23, the single most common denominators are white male with a gun. You can't even start to dispute that correlation, yet I certainly don't believe white and male have anything to do with it. You are going to have to dig deeper than color, or parenting, or video games or Obama. I think your culture is the predominant underlying factor. Fear and hatred of people not like yourself.

Fact checker, 945pm, that distribution looks a lot like the general population of males by race.

60% off mass murders are white, 60% of the population is white. 20% of the mass murderers are black, 13 % of the population is black.

They all have something in common. Broken families, broken kids. Broken families, broken communities. Broken communities, broken society.

Not if damages are awarded for false accusations.

Hell, even in Nevada County we had a nutcase who shot up the place in 2001 and his bro was a law enforcement officer who knew his bro was a nutcase who was armed.

I expect if a Red Flag law with sufficient due process protections were crafted, Democrats in Congress wouldn't go for it.

Barry Pruett

White males are the problem? First whites are underrepresented as a percentage of population in gun violence. Second and far more importantly, we have a color blind cultural problem in the USA. The progressives have removed love and faith from our culture. Gun violence regardless of race is a natural consequence of progressive ideology. Combine that with progressives demonizing law enforcement and it is a clear path of how we got here. Progressives blame Trump in order to hide their ideological deficiencies. Look at Chicago. Mt. Sinai Hospital closed the ER this weekend because they were overwhelmed. That’s not Trump. That’s progressive ideology.

"Fear and hatred of people not like yourself."
Sure - that's why most mass killers are killing folks that are just like them.
This fear and hatred crap is left-wing projection. No one is more fearful and hating than lefties.

Amusing to see mass shooter stats elevated to the spotlight while at the same time homicide rates die a lonely death. Baltimore and Chicago vs. Dayton and El Paso. Are they not cut from the same cloth? The chickens are coming home to roost.

“In a nation afflicted by fads, crazes, manias, and rages, mass murder is the jackpot for nihilists — begging the question: why does this country produce so many of them? Answer: this is exactly what you get in a culture where anything goes and nothing matters. Extract all the meaning and purpose from being here on earth, and erase as many boundaries as you can from custom and behavior, and watch what happens, especially among young men trained on video slaughter games.

“A culture where anything goes and nothing matters.

Scoot O.

Fear is the big one. While we have posted hundreds of news blurbs that we chuckle and find ridiculously beyond absurd, fear is behind it all. Trump is not going to relinquish power, a shoelace inadvertently dropped from a pocket becomes a Klan noose, a tank at the Washington Mall for the 4th of July becomes the onset of martial law, ad infinitum. Oh, we call it TDS or Addicted to Outrage or losing their ever loving minds, but fear is behind it all.
As Robert Cross once put it so concisely, ‘I am afraid you are coming to get me and are going to march me up against the wall.’ Well stated. Fear. Overriding fear. Terror.

Last night after glancing at Newbusters to see what new things the foaming at the mouth hyperventilating meltdown crowd on the MSNBC-CNN-Network-NYT cabal were saying, I saw pure unadulterated fear across the board. Fear is the big one.

“Fear and hatred of people not like yourself” is an old statement by Steve, oft used now by all the sock puppets. The projection of their own fear and hatred is so thick now that one cannot cut it with a knife.
Exhibit A is Dr. Rebane’s update to Scattershots; the mob driven by fear and hatred.

Fatherless homes. A reason a young man joins gangs to fill the void....as single mothers are in their knees daily praying that their boys never grow up to be gangbangers. It’s the reason Treyvon Martin’s mom sent him out of the city to be with his father in the burbs that summer.

this whole 'fatherless home' argument is just another right wing bullshit dodge and NRA talking point and a sorry attempt to place the blame for gun violence on something/someone other than the real culprit...easy access to firearms where virtually any nutcase can get an assault rifle.

Right on Robert. 9:26.
Worth repeating: "this whole 'fatherless home' argument is just another right wing bullshit dodge and NRA talking point and a sorry attempt to place the blame for gun violence on something/someone other than the real culprit..."

Of course there are countless examples where entire swaths of military age men were removed from a society and the fatherless kids didn't grow up to be mass murderers. I said that before, but the COJ remain fixated on NRA talking points.

Barry Pruett

Mr. Cross obviously can’t read. The author of the book regarding mass shootings and fatherless homes was written by a Democrat and active feminist. Silly progressives. Reading is fundamental. 😂

George Rebane

RL 905am - Body slamming a 13-year-old is dumb for a number of reasons. But does this citation equal things out between the atrocious things the Right and Left visit on each other?

RobertC 926am - "this whole 'fatherless home' argument is just another right wing bullshit dodge ..." The literature on how fatherless homes shape young men is now vast beyond comprehension. Every such study replicates previous results. The Left destroyed the black family and made it financially rewarding for single young females to get pregnant and give birth to one or more meal tickets from the government. For that they got ballot box loyalty and a perennial plantation. And, of course, the inevitable bloodshed which is now denied pro forma as being the result of Great Society ad nauseum. Their narrative must not let the accusing finger point back at the source.

Sorry chief…….eliminating guns from society……that ship has sailed! Nice try though!

J. Barron

Wanna get a grip? Start with reality. Start with the two commonalities in every single mass shooting,

Often but not always, there’s no father in the home.
Often but not always, the shooter has few or no friends and nothing resembling a real support network.
Often but not always, the shooter is unemployed or barely employed.
Often but not always, the shooter has some mental-health issue, sometimes formally diagnosed, sometimes not.
Often but not always, the shooter played violent video games.
Often but not always, the shooter was active on extremist or Columbine-focused chat boards or had a noticeable interest in or obsession with previous mass shootings.
Often but not always, the shooter has gotten in trouble in school or has been kicked out of school.

And then in every single case, has convinced himself that he is the real victim of powerful forces beyond his control, and that the only remaining option he sees for defiance is shooting as many random people as possible in a public place.

And in every single case, the shooter manages to get his hands on a gun — sometimes legally purchasing them, sometimes stealing them or taking them from someone else.

Scott O

"Of course there are countless examples where entire swaths of military age men were removed from a society and the fatherless kids didn't grow up to be mass murderers."
Like WWII? Those military aged men 17+ years old never got married and never had kids for the most part. The birth rate fell dramatically then. And it's not just fatherless kids, as I've pointed out.
A fatherless kid in the 40s who sassed an adult got the crap knocked out of them by any passing dad. Try that now. There's been a whole societal change in many ways and it's been almost always for the worst. The stats and the correlation of aimless boys growing up today without proper male and female adult supervision is destroying our nation. Natural youthful male aggression used to be understood and channeled constructively or at least dealt with by fathers, coaches, teachers and the like. Nowadays society tries to sweep it under the rug or deny it's existence. No wonder there is such a row about 'toxic' male behaviour. Society just tries to tamp it all down and demand that boys act like girls.
Folks like Jigg-head don't want to really look at the issue of young American white males committing mass murder. Because it started long before 'assault' rifles and Trump.

Jig Wiggly

WWII? How about 2019? How many war ravaged countries have lost a significant fraction of fathers? In how many countries are random, mass shootings a weekly occurrence?

RL 905am and GR 1005am

An adult body slamming a child of 13 is more than dumb, it's criminal unless it's necessary to stop the kid from harming another.

That said, how much jail time they should get depends upon the facts of the matter... wait until the verbal exchange between them is known.

And George, yes, the citation has nothing to do with the situations being discussed here, it's just another content free shallow hit and run snark from an angry 'toonist.

Bill Tozer

Society was different in the past. People valued lives and it wasn’t a “do your own thing, let it all hang out” culture.
Come to think about it, when the GIs came home after WW2, some got into teaching and retired just about the time the public schools started going downhill. When they retired, there went the neighborhood. Then respect for others went out the window and now the closest shithole to us here in Whitey Town is the nearest public school.

How did the sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll work out? Do your own thang. Everything is relative.
Guns are just the symptom of a sickness brought on as a direct result to implementing Leftinista values. Unmoored from the anchors that formerly worked and held it all together. Adrift in the ocean, rudderless, tossed by every wave to and fro.. Instant gratification....like a rolling stone with no direction home. Lost at sea.
It takes a rather huge honking lack of self awareness to whine about blaming others for the recent shootings considering we have been carpet bombed for the past few days with “Its all Trump fault!” It’s all the NRA’s fault. What’s next? The shooters fingers jumped off his hands and jumped on the trigger all by their, lonesome.
So ahead and look at the symptoms till the cows come home while the cooler heads seek the root causes.

I am so glad we are not like them. They call for unity while ripping others to sheds.

“‪Obama promoted the lie of "systemic" anti-black police discrimination against blacks.‬

Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) decried in a statement what he characterized as the "spread of misinformation and constant instigation by prominent leaders, including our president" who, he added, "contributed to the modern day hostility we are witnessing between the police and those they serve. As a result, today we are seeing one of the noblest professions condemned by those who could benefit the most."
