It is blatantly obvious that if billionaires can save millions in their taxes from going to the under class, they can invest that money in something else. Jets, hot tubs, young boys . . . it's famously known as trickle up economics. Show us the proof that ain't so. Reagan would not approve.

George Rebane

In more tempered and reasonable societies the one making an assertion is required to substantiate it with some supportive evidence. In insane societies it's the asserter who demands that his audience prove his assertion to be false, else it must be taken to be true.

Walt

Triggered Barron Von Proggy... Remember? they are only the 1%.
Tough to make your rant fly. Take your bitch to Soros, maybe Al Gore?
Starting a new "look over here" bullshit rant? Gotta get away from the "Nazi" Nan and her real f*cked up impeachment idea?

Yup, it worth losing the house over. This is what called "betting the ranch" in Vegas.
Any bets where the Repubs are going to stick Nan's gavel?

Nice try Von Proggy, your little "rich guy" tax evasion so the welfare brats will stave,,, that dog don't hunt.

So how is the "we will end homelessness and poverty" work'n for the Proggys? Seen Frisco or Seattle lately? There is always Hawaii,,, The bums are three deep on the sidewalks.
Yaa,,, blame the rich tourists on that one.

J. Barron

George 9:53
What is insane is for someone to demand "proof" that when people pay less in taxes that they keep more money to spend. Just as insane is to demand "proof" that when WIC, food stamps, and school meals are denied because supportive taxes are cut, that some people are denied the ability to eat well.

Walt

"IF" any of those services have been cut due to lack of TAXES,,
PROVE IT. Lack of taxation due to tax cuts if pure Proggy poo.

Oh Walt,

Walt

Cry me a river. Welfare was NEVER supposed to be a way of life.
Need food assistance? There is a church or other charity not far away.
But people like you always want to blame the well to do. A little class envy going on Von Proggy?

The taxpayer is shelling out tons of money to take care of the "poor".. Yet the numbers keep climbing... Especially in LIB towns.. Why is that jiggered Barron?

Still full of bitching and blaming,, but real short on answers.
You might want to read Brother Proggy Boardman's bit in the local LIB rag. A blind squirrel does find a nut now and then.

Seriously, there is proof that what Barron stated is true coming out your ears...including data coming from official analysis coming out of the Trump Departments of Commerce and Treasury.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/annemarieknott/2019/02/21/why-the-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-tcja-led-to-buybacks-rather-than-investment/#70cc962f37fb

https://www.apnews.com/438fae12f9204b1fbd8e8b1985ae554f

But then again...we needed to boost the stock market so Trump could look good, and buybacks did that....but what is next?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/22/investing/stock-buybacks-drop-tax-cuts/index.html

And of course businesses spent some of that money on capital projects and R&D too...

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tax-cuts-fuel-stock-buyback-spike-130545937.html

Finally, in the strongest economy in several decades during the Obama/Trump recovery wages have been relatively stagnant...according to Just Capital and Americans for Tax Fairness....in the first year of the tax cuts almost $1 Trillion went to stick buy-backs to inflate the value of the stocks and $7.1 billion went to increased wages.

https://americansfortaxfairness.org/key-facts-american-corporations-really-trump-tax-cuts/

https://justcapital.com/reports/the-just-capital-rankings-on-corporate-tax-reform/

So in short, Barron is correct, the rich got richer, the workers did not.

Finally, in the strongest economy in several decades during the Obama/Trump recovery wages have been relatively stagnant...

You just don't understand the news media bub. They find one outlier and to them that is a national problem. Hooey. I once rented to women with kids out of jail. They told me the programs they all knew and how in the end they brought in about 40k a year. And food is plentiful for the poor. So your premise is BS.

JB and SF - I would suggest you go back and review the chain of comments and notice that JB started with one idiot premise and then pivoted to something completely different.
It is certainly true that in a static situation if a billionaire is presented with two different tax amounts to pay, then obviously in the example of him paying the lesser amount, he will have a greater amount to invest, (more jobs) purchase more real estate, (more taxes) buy an airplane (more jobs) or simply shovel into his money bin (ala Scrooge McDuck) that left wing folk think exist. None of that has anything to do with childrens' breakfasts.
The amount of money spent by the fed or any state govt on food for the poor has nothing to do with the actual amount of money incoming to that particular govt.
No child (includes the plural for light thinkers) in this country has gone hungry in order that a billionaire might then purchase a jet aircraft.

Steven Frisch

"...begging for free rent..." WTF are you talking about?

Once again, tell it to your pastor...

Scott O

Mr Frisch - "But then again...we needed to boost the stock market so Trump could look good, and buybacks did that....but what is next?"
I would suggest you take your complaint to the govt of the once-golden state of California and they will explain to you in no uncertain terms that an inflated stock market is pretty much all that is sustaining the finances of said govt.
You want the stock market to go down?
Down goes the amount of capital gains taxes and down the drain goes the PERS investment fund.
It is the middle class that would be hurt the worst by a lower stock market.
What is next, indeed?
You might ask the current front runner in the Dem clown car act running for pres.
Oh yes - "go after Wall Street" - whatever that means.

Scott O

JB 8:21 - You might try reading the whole article.
The new rule is to simply make sure that everyone on SNAP is actually qualified for it.
The 3.1 million is an estimate of the number of folks that shouldn't be on SNAP.
There is no indication that anyone who actually qualifies for SNAP will be thrown off.

Of course that has something to do with chillin getting breakfast. If your theory is that rich people getting tax cuts leads to increased jobs, increased tax revenue, and increased investment...then wouldn't giving tax cuts to poor people to use as discretionary spending do the same thing WHILE reducing tax revenues having to be used for social program spending?

Why not do a $1 Trillion per year tax cut and target it to the lower 50%? They are certainly going to spend all the money. The illogic of the trickle down versus the trickle up theory here is pretty clear.

Steven Frisch

Posted by: Walt | 30 September 2019 at 08:48 AM

Once again, WTF are you talking about? I have been at SBC since 2000 and I do not remember any time we have ever asked for free rent....ever...and I would have been involved in any such agreement.

To be clear, we had a landlord who donated a small portion of our rent once...which is their right as a private citizen. Just like you can donate to your church if you want to or George can donate to Music in the Mountains (or buy a little good will with KVMR by donating for building construction.)

I know you hate the point that the organization I work for provides a service and gets paid for it, and that at times it might be worth more than heavy equipment operating or Todd's 'retired builder' income, but envy is an ugly emotion. I really can't help it that you are not worth more in the open market, but you made those choices and will have to live with them.

Steven Frisch

Nope, I don't want the stick market to go down, but then again I think you need to think about how stick buy-backs actually work.

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/02/041702.asp

The bottom line no matter how one cuts it is that dividends from stock buy backs are taxed at a lower rate than capital gains or income, thus tax revenue to local, state and federal treasuries are lower than distributing the benefit of taxes cuts to employees, who are taxed on income PLUS sales tax through spending discretionary income.

In short, return the benefit of tax cuts to workers is better for the economy because it has a greater stimulus effect.

Steven Frisch

"In more tempered and reasonable societies the one making an assertion is required to substantiate it with some supportive evidence."

George has been going off on the lack of "supportive evidence" given by leftwing posters with regard to statements they make and how the righties always support their statements with 'proof.' 'Proof' on this blog means posting link, and in the case of the right wing posters, usually a link from sources proven to be extremely biased and even purveyors of falsehood. Does trump calling a story fake news make it so? Does calling the publishers of stories that don't fit the trump narrative "enemies of the people" make it so?

My point, George, is that there is no point to providing a link. In a "tempered and reasonable" society the primary standard is what would a 'reasonable' person think or do. In the age of trump a reasonable assessment of information has been replaced by partisan hysteria. . Most links in support of the extreme right wing dialogue presented here are bogus and any link provided by the left wing is readily dismissed as fake news or some outlandish conspiracy theory as stated by such outstanding journalists (just kidding) as Sean Hannity or Geraldo Rivera. So, in reality, there is no purpose to providing links as evidence because one can always find a link to support any theory or conspiracy. Someone once said in the presence of a polished con man the only thing a person can use as a guide to judge the truth is their gut feeling. If one were to discard that partisan hysteria, what does your gut tell you about Donald trump? All of his high crimes, misdemeanors and lies can't all be false. All of the investigations can't all be witch hunts..unless that is simply what you want to believe. The con is on.

Robert is entirely correct...there is no real point in using data or information to support a point of view here because the participants are not longer governed or motivated by reason.

In a world where truth is critical for the making of rational decisions, and a firm grip on reality coupled with openness to new ideas is essential to solving problems, this site is a place for the opposite. Yes, for example I think I laid out a pretty good set of links to stats on how the Trump tax cut helped the rich and fucked the poor....after George bemoaned no data.

But when he responds it will be to say, "what, you trust CNN, or Bloomberg, or actual government statistics, let me show you what Breitbart, the Competitive Enterprise Institute or Heritage have to say about it... what a rube you are."

And the game of discounting the other sides facts, and never actually being able to agree on what a "fact" actually is will go on...to be leveraged to sow division and demonize the opponent... in order to soften the ground for authoritarian leadership.

Scott O

SF 8:59 - "Of course that has something to do with chillin getting breakfast."
Nope - not in the least.
We fed our children breakfast no matter what rate the wealthy paid on their taxes.
And once again, I will call your attention to the fact that you are now arguing a point that is quite a bit different than the one originally made.
Since you seem to be unable to follow a simple thread - from JB: "One child's loss of a free breakfast is another man's private jet. Got it."
That was the original statement and it was and is, total BS.
There are no children being denied any food in order that a wealthy person should buy a private jet.

Todd Juvinall

Simple question I asked you Scott so stop the obfuscating...is it better to distribute tax cuts to corporations who are going to use a large portion of them for stock buy backs or capital investments or distribute them directly to workers who will use them for discretionary spending?

And I answered the fucking question...tax cuts to workers mean they feed their chillin; tax cuts to the corporation mean they buy private jets....really simple equation, food for children or jets for fat cats.

Scott O

Frisch 8:59 Total comedy - "If your theory is that rich people getting tax cuts leads to increased jobs, increased tax revenue, and increased investment..."
Theory??
If they don't - then what would you suggest happens to the money?
Ah yes - the Scrooge McDuck money bin.
Of course that money is injected back into the system.
It's not a 'theory'.
If you wish to increase your income, I would suggest something other than lusting after the money the wealthy have. It belongs to them, fair and square. They pay far far higher rates than you. If you would like to reduce poverty, I would suggest having the poor emulate the ones previously poor. The ones that were poor, but changed their location, lifestyle, work habits, whatever was needed to get themselves out of poverty.
Otherwise, you are left with the sorry fact that the govt can not 'buy' people out of poverty. The results of the 'war' on poverty speak to that.

Gregory

Steve, you're projecting again.

Here's two versions of Reality that cannot co-exist: we're in an uncontrolled spiral of rising temperatures that can only be stopped by a radical transformation of the world's economy towards a carbon-free existence, to be triggering mass extinctions in 12 years, or:

In nine years, it will be cold and there will be worldwide food insecurity, a la the Little Ice Age and a new Maunderish solar minimum starting right about now.

Choose your reality. They are both supported by peer reviewed scientific papers.

Bill Tozer

Steve @ 12:28 pm

“is it better to distribute tax cuts to corporations who are going to use a large portion of them for stock buy backs or capital investments or distribute them directly to workers....”

Surely you are not against capital investments are you? Machinery wears out. Things become obsolete. Don’t your business clients rely on capital investments?

Under the category of things that stick: Twenty years ago I read a report from Chevron or Exxon-Mobil that stated it took 19 million dollars in capital investments for every employee they added to oil exploration. My mouth dropped. And that was two decades ago.

Scott O

Frisch - "really simple equation, food for children or jets for fat cats."
Sorry Frisch - you've gone off the rails. There is no direct link.
It just doesn't work that way. We are feeding our kids. There are no bodies lying around piling up. The biggest health problem with the poor is obesity. The 'workers' will feed their children no matter what, if they care about them.
As far as 'answering' your question -
It would be very hard to figure out which scenario would provide more actual dollars to the govt in the form of taxes as you would have to lay out a very specific and detailed example of each side of the question and then go through a pretty complex model of each choice.
Also the idea that 'workers' don't own or are affected by stock valuations and dividends is false. There is no 'either or' there. A lot of workers own stock and certainly thousands more have their pensions heavily dependent on stocks.
If a 'worker' wants to increase his or her income, I would suggest changing jobs, or making their labor more valuable to society.

Gregory

Frisch 1228pm

"And I answered the fucking question...tax cuts to workers mean they feed their chillin; tax cuts to the corporation mean they buy private jets....really simple equation, food for children or jets for fat cats."

If they're working, they have the money to fix and serve their children breakfast before school.

If you want fewer corporate jets, I'd suggest cutting Corporate tax rates to the bare minimum needed to support direct costs to the Federal guvmmint of corporations... that would cut the tax subsidy to near zero.

J. Barron

Scott O-

JB 1:02 - "Steve has given you all the factual information that you need."
Steve gave no information whatever showing that there are children being deliberately deprived of breakfast by wealthy people who then take the money intended for the breakfast and buy a private jet. The reason a child might actually be deprived of breakfast would probably be that daddy is no where and mommy is on meth.
Your 1:55 - ""One child's loss of a free breakfast is another man's private jet."

What is that hissing sound? The air escaping from the impeachment narrative balloon. You guys got schiffed bad! -

A Justice Department official told Fox News on Monday that Attorney General Bill Barr asked President Trump to introductions to foreign countries that might have had information pertinent to U.S. Attorney John Durham's ongoing probe into possible misconduct by the intelligence community at the outset of the Russia investigation.

But a person familiar with the situation told Fox News it would be wrong to say Trump "pressed" the Australian prime minister for information that could have discredited former Special Counsel Mueller's now-completed probe, as The New York Times reported earlier Monday.

"The countries have been helpful," the source said. "There was no pressing required."

The president was letting the heads of other countries know that the attorney general would be contacting the appropriate law enforcement entities in each country, according to the DOJ official. When Barr was in Italy last week, he did talk to law enforcement officials there about Durham's review, Fox News was told.

The DOJ official also stressed that this has been a routine procedure in diplomacy and that Barr would not usually reach out to his direct counterpart in another country unilaterally. Instead, usually there would be an introduction of sorts made at the head-of-state level.

Barr assigned Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, back in May to conduct the inquiry into alleged misconduct and improper surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016, as well as whether Democrats were the ones who'd improperly colluded with foreign actors.

“Mr. Durham is gathering information from numerous sources, including a number of foreign countries. At Attorney General Barr’s request, the president has contacted other countries to ask them to introduce the attorney general and Mr. Durham to appropriate officials,” Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said.

House Republican Conference Chairman Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., on Monday pushed for answers on how much top Democrats knew about the explosive White House whistleblower's complaint before it was officially made, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's head-turning comments during a televised interview on Sunday.

"He told me it was perfect, that there was nothing on the call," Pelosi said on CBS News' "60 Minutes," referring to a conversation she had with President Trump before the Trump administration released either a transcript of his call with Ukraine's leader or the whistleblower's complaint.
"But I know what was in the call," Pelosi continued, before quickly adding, "I mean, uh, it was in the public domain."

Pelosi's remark drew scrutiny from Republicans because no verbatim account of Trump's call had yet been made publicly available.

"@SpeakerPelosi⁩ said on 60 Minutes last night she knew the details of the classified Ukraine call before White House released transcript," Cheney wrote on Twitter. "This is starting to seem like a political set up. So, Madame Speaker, 'what did you know and when did you know it?'”

There goes Walt again. Another patriot tried and locked away based on "the evidence is clear". The Constitutional scholar sure understands the due process.

You said "And I answered the fucking question...tax cuts to workers mean they feed their chillin; tax cuts to the corporation mean they buy private jets....really simple equation, food for children or jets for fat cats. "

OI recall that the feds slapped a huge tax on the things the rich buy. Yachts big cars, those kinds of things. They wanted the rich to pay more. Well the companies that built those things started laying off the people that built them as the rich stopped buying them. Oops, unintended consequences. So the guys making the stuff became unemployed and their kids had no food. The law was rescinded.

The socialist dems will pay a price for this next November -

“Democrats promised to reach across the aisle and work with President Trump and Republicans to serve the American people, but instead are now pushing their hyper-partisan impeachment agenda,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told Fox News on Monday. “Enough is enough; Americans are sick and tired of these witch hunts.”

She added: “We are going to hold Democrats accountable for their ridiculous charade and remind voters that their Democrat representative turned their back on them.”

As part of their aggressive impeachment response, the RNC on Monday launched a new website, stopthemadness.gop, with officials saying it will be used to target House Democrats for their “extreme actions."

“The website is going to be a one-stop-shop for activists and supporters of President Trump across the country to get information on our efforts to cause chaos within the Democratic Party,” RNC spokesman Rick Gorka, who is heading up the campaign, told Fox News in an interview Monday.

And like every other conversation here (as I think Paul pointed out this one would) the conversation goes down to the level of the ignorant (Todd, Walt and Don) supported by the complicit (Scott & Bill) managed by the puppet master (George) looked over by the self proclaimed anthropomorphic (Greg).

I guess no one wants to actually talk about the well proven fact that tax cuts to the rich have less stimulative effect on the economy and thus less benefit to GDP and benefit fewer people than tax cuts to the lower 50% of the populous do.

That is just a fact, bitch.

Walt

What happened Stevie? You cut of taxpayer money go down?
Get less of a GOV grant this time? Yup blame that on everyone getting tax cuts.
(yet forget the fact that tax revenue is up) The fact of that posted yesterday.

Get off the dole jiggered one and get a job. Mc D's is hiring.

Someone will no doubt explain how tax cuts to the 44+% who pay no taxes, and further cuts to the barely tax payers, neither of whom do invest to create jobs, is better than the current general distribution of taxes that take into account investment and entrepreneurship. I'm contending that some other distribution of taxes is not better, I'm just asking about cuts to those fro whom cuts are not possible (save starting some Universal Basic Income program - another discussion).

I have to wonder if it was a socialist dem who trotted this out! -

EXCLUSIVE: A photo obtained by Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" shows former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter golfing in the Hamptons with Devon Archer, who served on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings with Hunter.

In a combative interview on ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday, Giuliani presented what he said was an affidavit signed by Shokin that confirmed Hunter Biden was being investigated when Shokin was fired.

"I have an affidavit here that's been online for six months that nobody bothered to read from the gentleman who was fired, Viktor Shokin, the so-called corrupt prosecutor," Giuliani said. "The Biden people say that he wasn't investigating Hunter Biden at the time. He says under oath that he was." The Shokin affidavit purportedly said the U.S. had pressured him into resigning because he was unwilling to drop the case.

Exactly!

Frisch and friend(s) think a possible benefit (some variation on the mythical Free Lunch) that doesn't get bestowed is the moral and legal equivalent to a tax increase on a taxpayer who doesn't make enough to pay income taxes.

I love this line from Ellsberg, "The public is lied to every day by the President, by his spokespeople, by his officers." Somehow it rings more true today than it did during the Nixon era. Though the end will be the same.

Forget your history jigglenuts? Nixon was ran out of town by his own party.

Nixon had nothing on your boy "O" when weaponizing the IRS, and HIS enemies list. That was OK in your brown eye.

I always knew you were a stupid person. And now you have proved it once again. After you BK'd your restaurant and swiped all that employee tax money, who made the difference up? Taxpayers had to bale your stupid ass out. And now Trump let's those poor employees you screwed get a little break and all you can do is cry about corporations. Wasn't your BK company a corporation? So it is my understanding of corporations that they have employees that get paid money that gets taxed. Is that true? And the treasury of the US and the states have a line item under revenue that says "corporations" and there is an amount listed. Is that money?

You truly are a terrible hypocrite and a real dumbass. But now you have quite the gig. And funded by those poor people trying to get food for their kids. You should bow your head in shame.

Well, variety is the spice of life. We have had here Dixon who scolded (ridiculed?) some of us for admiring Victor Davis Hansen’s work, we had some wacko over here once whining and carrying on about the US not on the metric system, we have Bobbie who only gets the tiniest minute points correct, but never once a big point. "He told me it was perfect, that there was nothing on the call," Pelosi said on CBS News' "60 Minutes," referring to a conversation she had with President Trump before the Trump administration released either a transcript of his call with Ukraine's leader or the whistleblower's complaint.

"But, I know what was in the call," Pelosi continued, before quickly adding, "I mean, uh, it was in the public domain."

So she knew what was in the call?? Let the backpedaling begin.

This has been rigged from the start, and she just got caught.

Impeachment: Leave Joe alone! Man, the projection is rich here. Frame Trump for trying to meddle in the 2020 election as he is enlisting assistance in a LE matter concerning foreign governments and the DNC interfering in the 2016 election!

Leave Joe alone!

“I think that the problem we've got, again, with this issue, is that it's a distraction from the fact that — look, as far I'm concerned, leave Joe Biden alone. Just leave him alone on this issue of what this president has done that has been about corrupting America's democracy, being in cahoots with a foreign leader to yet again manipulate the election of the president of the United States," Harris said.

"I-I-I'm not going to be distracted by what this president is trying to play, which is a game, because he knows that he is actually, probably, probably, looking at an indictment and is then trying to distract from the realities of his behaviors that have been in violation of our moral, our ethical, and probably our legal rules," she responded.

With Horowitz’s report coming soon, with DOJ looking into the origins of the Russian Collusion Delusion, with HRC’s e-mails being looked at, with the Clinton Foundation under investigation, with Obama’s legacy at stake, with all this coming down, quick!, impeach Trump now. Then fire the anti-corruption prosecutors. Sweet. Brennan is feeling the heat.

Ted Jackson

Gregory 7:46-
That you are so willing to rewrite history is batshit stupid, or at best ignorant..

Nixon was dogged by a solid and lockstep Democratic house. Twice he vetoed environmental protection laws and twice his veto was killed. Nixon was anything if not vain and those vetoes whipped him into submission. From then on he voted for progressive laws to avoid being humiliated once again in public. He never proposed or supported those acts. He was never "one of us".

Ted Jackson

correction
those veto OVERRIDES whipped him into submission.

Walt

Really Ted? Didn't Nixon create the EPA? And way before "Progressive" was even dreamed up.
His own VETOES "whipped him into submission???

Care to explain?

Gregory

It ain't a rewriting of history; it's what you've forgotten in this latest shedding of skin and adoption of a new sock identity.

Nixon even campaigned on a negative income tax scheme to take the place of Welfare as it was known at the time, but the Democratic Congress wanted the negative income tax and the bureaucracy of the Welfare state so the Tricky One vetoed it and put it out of its misery.

Ted Jackson

Read Walt, read. The overrides of his vetoes whipped Nixon into submission. He was pussy whipped by Dems who had the wheelhouse. The EPA was conceived by David Brower, Carl Trost, and Phil Berry and promoted by their friends who ran congress. Nixon had no choice but to go along for the ride in a bus driven by Sierra Clubbers. What a great time it was! Impeachment was only icing on the cake. Just like it will be with June Bug.

Gregory

Dems in the wheelhouse. Yes, Dems are great at hanging together.

With any luck the Progressives pulling the 2020 candidates to the far left deep end of the pool will tear the Democratic Party of FDR's New Deal completely apart and it will again be safe for libertarians to rejoin.

fish

“Ted Jackson” now huh?

It is always a party 🎉 in your head isn’t it? .

Paul Emery

No such luck Gregory. Trump will unite the Democrats like never before. the anyone but Trump message will overcome any division come November

Todd Juvinall

Oh Paul Emery, Trump is the uniter bub. He will get a nice share of the minority votes and most of the sane white people.

Jig Wiggly

Todd you dunce. Trump is the uniter all right. He has mobilized the Dems unlike anyone else could. He could herd stray cats if they were Dems. We'll see record lib turnout at the next election to send Trump packing and then on to prison.

Australia is another impeachable offense. Losing, losing, losing.

Every post you make shows me what a moron a troll really is. Trump and the R's will trounce you and the dems. The American people are behind us and showing their support. Trump is up over Obama in the same time frame. And did the O win? Also, there has yet to be released all the investigations of you lib pals in the hoaxes and when that happens you will see some lib prison time.
