I suppose that you know that they 're-energized' the hospital and nearby plus parts of Brunswick Basin. Downtown GV perhaps?
Expect much talk about NID putting together a local grid which will magically solve the problems (and likely never happen). Expect handwaving about 'global warming' which, true or not, does nothing to deal with the power issue. Expect arguments about what constitutes 'wind'.
Be amazed by Nevada City's inability to provide emergency power for the cops while spending plenty o' dosh on 'studying' 5G, at least until the correct result is achieved.
Once again I'll ponder the inability of the cell towers (and to some degree, landlines) to be able to withstand outages. It's one of those cases where I would apply the heavy hand of .gov, the old AT&T system was pretty darned bulletproof. You can also make some similar argument for gas station permits. Communications and Getting Out of Dodge in a sketchy situation matter more than whether Safeway keeps it's ice cream cold, although the inability for stores to operate sans power (due only to inoperable registers) is rather silly.
I'm still waiting for the five-day cutoff to really test how testy people can get.

Sorry LIBS,, you ain't going to see an impeachment. The moment a vote is taken and passed, it goes to the Senate. And all those Senators on the campaign trail must stop. NO campaigning while the "trial" is on.
Now just who could drag that out for months?
Ahhh.. The joys of politics.

...but the battery in the remote terminal seems far below spec. Hey, pac bell, get it replaced.

Country Walt @ 2:53 pm
That bear lard is killer stuff. It never spoils, never goes bad, and never needs refrigeration. Perfect. It's the best stuff in the world for country cooking. Momma's little baby loves shortin bread.
The other great thing about bear is their hides make the best chaps in the world. You can be out there on horseback or riding a bike in the most fierce hail-rain-snow storm and those babies will keep your legs nice and dry. Waterproof and nothing beats bear chaps. Waste not want not.
I'll give you a little hint about your skunk stew. Take some sugar and sprinkle it on the inside of the skunk hide and you won't get that smell like the Frenchy Pepe Pierre, if you catch my drift. Then you can dry the skunk hides and send them to the hatmakers back East. Of course those were the days before Biker Bill. You should have heard what they called me back then.
Country Living tip #2: mix in some baking soda with your beans and you won't get any breeze. No Blazing Saddles campfire scene music.
I best not send you my possum pie recipe because of that horrible possum incident in our community a few years ago. Front page news. I don't want those PETA women coming after me, no sir. Peta does have the best commercials though, I will give them that.

Ooops, we didn't mean to tell the truth!! qup no! -
Echoing the testimony of impeachment inquiry witnesses, the Times acknowledged Wednesday that Ukraine was not aware the United States was withholding aid until days after the July 25 call, in August.
In other words, Trump did not threaten to withhold aid during the infamous conversation between him and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25.
Zelensky himself has acknowledged that “there was no blackmail” during the call, citing as evidence that he “had no idea the military aid was held up” at the time of his July 25 phone conversation with Trump, the Times conceded.
The Times article is just the latest sign that Democrats and their liberal mainstream media backers are trying to move beyond the July 25 call that triggered the impeachment.

Yes Bill!!! There WILL be Possum! Let the Possum people cry!
First, find a Possum DOA. Goodyear fresh is even better.
1 5 lb. possum; cut into serving pieces
water
Salt
12 peppercorns
2 ribs celery; chopped
2 carrots; quartered
2 cups flour
4 egg yolks
6 tbsp. hot water
(Often served to unsuspecting bed-and-breakfast tourists in Amish country)
Place possum in kettle. Add water to cover, salt to taste, peppercorns, celery, carrots and onion. Simmer until possum is thoroughly tender, about two hours.
Strain broth and pour into clean kettle. Simmer while preparing remaining ingredients.
Remove possum from bones. Discard bones and skin. Cut possum into bite-size pieces.
Sift flour and one-half teaspoon salt together onto board. Make well in center and put egg yolks into it. Gradually work yolks into flour until stiff dough is formed, adding hot water as needed. Knead until smooth, about five minutes.
Cut dough in half. Roll each half until paper thin. Cut dough into noodles about one inch wide. Add possum to simmering broth. Gradually add noodles.
Continue boiling until noodles are done, about five minutes.

Quotes from The Great Divide
Upright: “This whole concept of political correctness — you can say this, you can’t say that, you can’t repeat what someone said — is total foolishness and it’s going to destroy our nation. And we need to be more mature than that.” —Ben Carson
For the record: “It’s a non-story that Obama pushed countries to redefine marriage or embrace the killing of unborn children as a price of U.S. aid. It’s a non-story that Joe Biden made an explicit quid pro quo involving $1 billion of U.S. aid for the firing of a prosecutor investigating the company that employed his son. But it’s an outrage, an impeachable offense even, that Trump wants to get to the bottom of the corruption that occurred in 2016.” —Gary Bauer
Food for thought: “So Trump can’t use the word ‘lynching,’ but it’s okay for the Left to call him Hitler?” —Ryan Fournier
Policy: “Republicans in the Senate need to pass legislation banning the chemical castration of children. Let Democrats in the House come out in defense of the barbaric practice publicly if they want. Absolute winner of an issue for Repubs. And more importantly it’s the right thing to do.” —Matt Walsh
The BIG Lie: “You know, Donald Trump inherited a strong economy from Barack and me. Things were beginning to really move. And just like everything else he’s inherited, he’s in the midst of squandering it.” —Joe Biden
Braying jackass: “I’m going to start by reversing the Trump tax cuts. … [The] wealthy didn’t need them in the first place.” —Joe Biden
Grand delusions: “When we [enact universal healthcare], there are no more premiums. You’re not paying anymore premiums. No more co-payments. No more deductibles. No more out-of-pocket expenses. And virtually every person in this country will save money on healthcare.” —Sen. Bernie Sanders
Race bait: “Let’s review the record. First on diversity and inclusion — Facebook has utterly failed. Facebook’s executive ranks and workforce continue to be mostly white and male.” —Rep. Maxine Waters
And last… “If you don’t think it’s child abuse to chemically castrate a sweet innocent child … by forcing him to take puberty blocking medication that is given to CONVICTED SEX OFFENDERS, then I don’t know a more diplomatic way to say this… you are a monster.” —Liz Wheeler

So the socialist dem group attack machine wants to flay Trump for saying -
President Donald Trump made a startling statement Friday afternoon while boasting about how he believes he handled his widely-condemned withdrawal of U.S. troops from Northern Syria – a move that had opened the gate to ethnic cleansing of America’s now-former allies, the Kurds.
“We’ve taken control of the oil in the Middle East, the oil that we’re talking about, the oil that everybody was worried about. We have the U.S. control of that,” Trump said, minutes after concluding a talk with the first two women astronauts to participate in an all-women spacewalk.
https://www.rawstory.com/2019/10/trump-blurts-out-a-startling-statement-weve-taken-control-of-the-oil-in-the-middle-east/
YET BACK IN THE REAL WORLD THE FACT IS ----
(AFP) - The US said Thursday it would beef up its military presence to protect northeastern Syria oil fields as Kurdish forces abandoned several positions to comply with a deal allowing Damascus, Ankara and Moscow to carve up their now-defunct autonomous region.
"The US is committed to reinforcing our position, in coordination with our SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) partners, in northeast Syria with additional military assets to prevent those oil fields from falling back to into the hands of ISIS or other destabilizing actors," a Pentagon official said in a statement.
The official did not provide any numbers or confirm reports that US armoured assets would stay by the oilfields, once used to fund the Islamic State group's short-lived "caliphate".

Morning Quotes from the Great Divide
Observations: “What we have is a rogue Democrat Party in the House of Representatives that’s using the institution of the House and the impeachment clause to interfere with the 2020 election. They’re interfering with the 2020 election more than the Russians did, more than Ukrainians did, even though that was bad enough, and they’re using our tax dollars to do it.” —Mark Levin
No doubt: “If [Republicans] were doing this [closed-door impeachment], you would be beating the s—t out of all of us.” —Sen. Lindsey Graham to the Leftmedia
Friendly fire: “I don’t know what’s going on in those closed doors. We as members of Congress do not have access to the information that’s being shared. I think the American people deserve to know exactly what the facts are, what the evidence is being presented as this inquiry goes on.” —Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
Non sequitur: “All the facts must come out and those who are attempting to obstruct this fact-finding inquiry may regret the day when they said all they want to do is open up the process. Our Republican friends may get what they wished for — all the facts coming out.” —Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
Foreign interference: “We have to work at the state and local level in terms of making sure that these voter ID laws are not passed, making sure that we have … monitors, lawyers, people watching the polls all the time, I personally want to ask the UN to come in. I’ve observed elections all over the world, and I think right now we need election observers from all over the world coming to monitor and to look at these tactics.” —Rep. Barbara Lee
Déjà vu: “Under my plan, if you negotiated an agreement for healthcare with your employer, union, or otherwise, and you like it because you’ve given up wages to get it, you can keep it.” —Joe Biden
More freebies: “It is a moral stain on our country that we have half a million or more people facing homelessness. … In a few weeks, we are going to introduce our ‘Homes For All’ legislation, which will, hopefully, guarantee a home for everyone.” —Rep. Ilhan Omar
Non compos mentis: “The people that are producing climate change, the folks that are responsible for the largest amount of emissions, or communities, or corporations, they tend to be predominantly white. … We can’t act as though the inertia and history of colonization doesn’t play a role in this.” —Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
And last… “The ones who were the loudest voices in spreading the Russian collusion hoax now also seem to be the ones most determined to prevent the truth about its origins from coming to light.” —Rep. Mark Meadows

re RobertC 948am - Yes indeed, Trump put the country into such dire straits that the Dems are going through impeachment histrionics in order not to allow him to run again in 2020. The real tragedy for the Dems and thereality on the ground - both nationally and internationally - is that Americans cannot be trusted to throw him out next November; that has to be attempted through fabricated Star Chamber composed articles of impeachment.

Re: the Texas case involving the child with the ‘mother’ wanting to change the sex of the boy.
King Solomon would have ordered the baby cut in half to know who really had the infant’s best interests at heart.
“James’s non-biological parent’s willingness to risk her child’s long-term health struggle contrasts sharply with his biological parent’s desire to protect him.“
“Is it any surprise that a woman who expected her child to conform to the family she wanted despite injury to his natural rights also believes that his sex should conform to her ideological bent, despite injury to his natural body? Both stem from the same mentality: “This child exists for my fulfillment.”
“On Thursday the judge will rule on James’s case. We can only hope that she has more respect for this child’s natural rights and natural body than his mother does.”
https://thefederalist.com/2019/10/24/why-its-probably-not-a-coincidence-that-the-mother-transing-her-7-year-old-isnt-biologically-related/
——————.———-
This is so FRIGGIN heartbreaking. Mommie want a little girl, but got a son.
“As The Texan previously reported, the factors that convinced Georgulas that her son is really her daughter include his affinity for the movie “Frozen” and his request to get a “girl toy” from McDonald’s. She also says he started expressing a wish to dress in girl’s clothing. But Jeff Younger recently explained in an interview that if James ever had any desire to wear dresses, it’s only because his mother started putting him in dresses and painting his nails when he was just 3-years-old. He claims that she used several other methods of manipulation, including locking the boy in his room and telling him that “the monsters only eat boys.” Jeff speculates that Georgulas would withhold affection from James if he did not act like a girl.“........
“It should be noted that, according to Jeff, James “violently refuses” to wear girl clothes when he is at his father’s house. Free from the clutches of his mother, Jeff says, James is relieved to act like a boy, dress like a boy, and play like a boy. The mother claims the opposite, insisting that James is excited to return to his mother and his identity as “Luna.” I think both claims are probably true, in a sense. The poor boy realizes that it pleases his mother for him to be Luna, and so he “wants” to play that role for her sake.”
https://www.dailywire.com/news/walsh-court-rules-that-a-mom-can-transition-son-into-girl-against-his-dads-wishes-this-is-evil-insane-child-abuse
Well, with or without King Solomon, the child is emotionally and mentally split.

Busted! -
The new defense filing alleges that the government is refusing to turn over a mountain of potentially exculpatory evidence, some of which has begun to emerge in the media — either through leaks or through ongoing inquiries into the origins of the probe into alleged Russia “collusion” with the Trump campaign, later found not to exist.
That evidence, Flynn’s legal team alleges, includes an apparent admission by former FBI lawyer Lisa Page — who resigned after being discovered having an affair with agent Peter Strzok, with whom she shared anti-trump texts — that she had edited the 302 — something that she allegedly told FBI investigators she did not recall, the filing states.
The edits, the filing alleges, were substantive: they included a claim that Flynn said he did not discuss any sanctions with the Russian ambassador. Flynn’s lawyers allege he merely told the FBI he did not recall, and that the claim he said otherwise was added only after a transcript of his discussion with the ambassador had been leaked to the media.
In a footnote, the filing adds that former FBI general counsel James Baker “is believed to be the person who illegally leaked the transcript of Mr. Flynn’s calls to [Washington Post reporter David] Ignatius.” It also alleges that former National Intelligence Director James Clapper told Ignatius to “take the kill shot on Flynn.”
The filing emerged hours after reports that the Department of Justice had shifted its investigation of the origins of the Russia probe to become a criminal investigation under the supervision of prosecutor John H. Durham.

Time for Brennan to throw Comey under the bus? “Hey, we just pass on Intel. It’s your job to verify it, James.”
“It’s not CIA’s job to make a determination about whether a U.S. person is cooperating, colluding, or whatever in some type of criminal or legal matter,” Brennan explained, stressing that instead, “it is our responsibility to give the Bureau everything that they need in order to follow that path and make such a determination and recommendation if they want to press charges.”
“The evidence suggests, however, that Brennan’s CIA and the intelligence community did much more than merely pass on details about “contacts and interactions between Russian officials and U.S. persons involved in the Trump campaign” to the FBI. The evidence suggests that the CIA and intelligence community—including potentially the intelligence communities of the UK, Italy, and Australia—created the contacts and interactions that they then reported to the FBI as suspicious.”

RobertC 1051am - It appears that you and your Dems are the nation's greatest 'deflectors' of truth and reality with your pursuit of an evidence-free impeachment of the President. Tell us again what to you is "the obvious", and what supports that assessment so we can once more review the innards of liberal thinking.

Another shoe drops -
Clinton family associate Sidney Blumenthal has made legal threats to the publisher of a forthcoming book featuring allegations against Democrats in connection with the Russia investigation in an attempt to stop publication, Fox News has learned.
A source familiar with the matter told Fox News that Blumenthal claimed the book – “The Plot Against the President: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in U.S. History,” by Lee Smith – was defamatory.
“Blumenthal tried to stop it from being published,” the source told Fox News, saying the Hillary Clinton confidant sent threatening letters to Smith and publisher Center Street, a division of Hachette Book Group.
Fox News reached out to Blumenthal, who did not immediately respond.
The book, which is scheduled for release Oct. 29, includes allegations about the origin of the Russia probe and the involvement of Democratic operatives with the unverified anti-Trump dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele. The source said that the publisher’s legal team found Blumenthal’s legal claim “meritless,” and they intend to release the book as planned.
Center Street has not responded to Fox News’ request for comment.
“The Clinton machine wanted to intimidate Lee,” the source said.
Smith himself would not discuss any purported legal threats, but acknowledged opposition to the book from those in the Clintons' orbit.
“People in the Clinton world are keen for this book not to come out,” Smith said.

Some of the staff have gotten bed bugs and MRSA from transient patients and are terrified to come to work. My coworkers break down crying on a regular basis from how overwhelming the issues are.”"

,,,Wasn't the Internet supposed to provide redundancy during disaster or war???
I had backup battery power during the last outage and my modem was powered but Xfinity cable went down after about 4 hours.
Now that big corporate greedheads are controlling the Internet pipe it runs like shit during power outages.
Did the eggheads who designed the Internet system assume that a nuke would not take out the electrical grid???
PUC needs to require Comcast, ATT, and cell providers to maintain power to their equipment during extended power outages.
How are you supposed to know when to evacuate if you cannot get phone messages, have no Internet, or cell service???
Have fun this weekend with the "purple flag" event!!!

"Should have stuck with AT&T dial-up."
My guess is that most of those are no more reliable than a cell phone at this point.
I'm with 'Biguns' on this one. Old school AT&T had serious engineering, well built infrastructure, good stuff.
Like most things, modern telecommunications tends towards fewer and fewer companies doing the least possible investing. The world has become full of single (or not very damn many) points of failure. They are all PG&E. PG&E of course is an existance proof that merely having government oversight doesn't imply good results.

Question: Will Nevada City’s newly rebuilt emergency siren work in a power blackout?
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 25 October 2019 at 05:13 PM
I cannot believe how self centered some people are. Some are so near sighted with their “me, me, me” tunnel vision.
Right now as the weekend approaches, we have only two options. Either cut off power when the breeze blows, or let towns burn and people die!!! You want people to die? If it saves just one live, then, By Golly, it is worth it.
Look at the bright side. You all should stick windmills up on your roofs. When the wind blows like the last outage, you will be generating your own juice day and night. That is assuming, of course, that the wind doesn’t blow the thing down with all the ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ transplants here. Snowflakes.
Now, I do sympathize with those who run out of toilet paper during an outage. This is America, not Venezuela.

I think they need to be forced to pay a per diem to customers they cut off. Say, something in the range of 25 to 100 dollars per day. Give them a reason to be surgical in their forecasts, wx observations and restorations.

"Question: Will Nevada City’s newly rebuilt emergency siren work in a power blackout?"
I expect that it will be designed to go off when it detects 5G signals. Dunno what the residents are supposed to do, which direction? It'll probably be pretty obvious at that point that there's a problem.
When the sireen is installed, it's purty obvious what to do. The town will build a series of gypsy wagons, built from tuff sheds by the homeless, pulled by brush eating goats that will haul everyone to safety.
In the meantime, it's always interesting to think about our local druggie campers building a warming fire off of Railroad, Uren, maybe on Sugarloaf. Nah, probably best not to think of the clearing that needs to happen, best to stick to wifi health studies.
Feh.

In the 'when is an impeachment inquiry NOT a lynching" category : In a lengthy opinion, Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the US District Court in Washington, DC, said the House clearly is conducting an impeachment inquiry and the Justice Dep't must provide the full version (unlike the redacted version given to Congress) of the Mueller Report to Congressional Committees.
"(A)n impeachment trial is an exercise of judicial power," Howell wrote. "Contrary to (the Justice Department's) position -- and as historical practice, the Federalist Papers, the text of the Constitution, and Supreme Court precedent all make clear -- impeachment trials are judicial in nature and constitute judicial proceedings."
this is the law. Therefore any attempts to not provide the requested information is against the law.

Judge shopping is fine old tradition, expect the apelet level to note that there was no vote by the house for an actual impeachment hearing that would be a judicial action that gaves the minority subpoena power. It also opens the proceeding and shares the information with the minority so there is an actual balance between prosecution and defense.
It would also prevent this kind of star chambers bullshit! -

It’s called ‘impeachment inquiring’, not impeachment hearing. Just because Nancy calls it an impeachment hearing, does it make it so...or even a hearing. This not an committee hearing either because ONLY the chairman can call witnesses and issue subpoenas and the minority can not call witnesses, issue subpoenas, or even vote in committee on who to call before for the ‘inquiry’. Against House rules. Not a hearing. To repeat, just because Nancy stands before a microphone and declare an impeachment hearing does not make it so. One member of the House does not yield that much power. Has to have a full House vote. We are talking impeachment of the President of the United States, not a Benghazi hearing or some civil rights commission hearing. That is why the Constitution such a serious matter in the hands of the full House and then put the removal process in the Senate’s hands with 2/3 majority to convict.
Nah, this is not an impeachment hearing. It’s not even an Inquiry. Its The Inquistion
I feel a perfect time for the Articles of Impeachment to be drawn up, voted on, and sent to over to Moscow Mitch would be just around early February and well into March. Democrat primary time and Mitch could the whole Senate in, including the 5 Senators running for office, and make them stay for the long duration. We can hear Spartacluz speeches for weeks!
Yep, the millisecond the House votes, impeachment goes to Moscow Mitch and his lovely goons and the House has zero say in the matter. Zero. Long time no come see.
A few fisticuffs and some shoving matches might well be in order. The part starting at Lay Down or Stand and Fight is a good read.

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/467530-senate-dems-barr-must-recuse-himself-from-ukraine-russia-probe-investigation
If Loretta Lynch did not recuse herself after her secret meeting with Bubba on the tarmac (right after the first FICA request was rejected and right before Comey usurped her authority in E-mailgate), then we should follow precedent. I don’t think Barr will fall for it. After all, the esteemed William Barr worked his way up the ladder to the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel, which issued the definitions of conflicts of interest and how personnel should conduct themselves. Some he wrote. He is a by-the-book old school cop and not a respecter of persons or last names. Barr is going where no Russian investigation has gone before: The Beginning. Investigating the PRIOR Administration. Boy, they are lawyering up and nutting up. Susan Rice lost it and called Sen. Lindsey Graham “a piece of s##t., lol.

Well Bobbie, the Judge ruled about Grand Jury Testimony. Just this past Feb or March, a Circuit Court ruled on Grand Jury testimony in the opposite way. Grand Jury testimony are Prosecutorial tools and the witness is not allowed to bring an attorney. The Circuit Court upheld that the privacy of the Grand Jury witnesses and testimony must be protected to several reasons. The main reason is to protect the innocent and protect the trust of the promised secrecy to witnesses. Suppose I was a neighbor down the street and dated Manafort’s daughter years ago....and then my name is splashed all across the papers as being associated with some evil doer. Plus, some witness (such as one of our secret agents) might be outed as a mole in the Kremlin. That’s the history behind it. Circuit Court rules one way, Federal Judge rules another. That’s life. We will see if the DOJ appeals the ruling to a higher court or complies.
But, WHY was this even necessary? Because William Barr followed the law and the Office of Legal Counsel’s interpretation of the law.
But why was this really really a “scandal” to begin with. Glad you asked. Barr had asked Bob
Mueller directly weeks before the release of the Mueller Report to mark all the documents and parts in the report that contained Grand Jury testimony. Mueller did not lift a finger to identify any Grand Jury testimony. It got sent over to Barr and he called Mueller and asked, “What’s this Bob? You did not identify Grand Jury testimony. Whatz up with dat?”
So, Barr, Rosenstein (the anti-Trumper), and the OLC and a bunch of trusted lawyers had to go through everything and pull out all Grand Jury records and testimony. It took weeks. Meanwhile, you and Rachel Maddcow and CNN and the Huff-n-Puff Farting Post and the Wa Compost and the unhinged and fix it ticket lawyers like Nadler were all screaming in unison that ‘Barr the Goon’ was withholdings evidence from the moment he received the report. You are a bunch of ignorant baboons. To top it off, your continue to call him Trump’s thug. Barr does everything by the book. He looks at the law as a how-to manual, not a novel. Especially not a Dem fiction novel. Dumbshits.
But, by all means, watch MSPMS and join the misinformed and assign nefarious motives to everything under the sun. It’s what you do best. Paranoid much?? You got to quit handing around with Punchy so much.
