Portland Wants Private Property Owners To Add ‘Mandatory Rest Spaces’ For The Homeless

“Interestingly enough, the Portland planning and sustainability commission is only codifying what appears to be a de facto rule about the homeless staking their claim to property within the city. Heritage reports that Portland police are prohibited from breaking up tent cities and encampments, and the city refuses to enforce a prohibition on camping or otherwise setting up shop in parks and on public ways, essentially giving the homeless the run of Portland.”

Time to update the old Peter, Paul, & Mary-Woodie Guthrie song. ‘This Land is my Land, this Land is my Land.

This land is my land, this land is my land

From the Redwood Forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for me and me”

This is a screed from a white retired lawyer who is now active in democrat politics here in our county. Amazing.

Like it or not, there has been an affirmative action program in place in America from its very inception. It is a program that has given white males a leg up at the expense of all others, be they black, brown, yellow or female. Under the Constitution of 1789, only men could vote. Women were excluded from suffrage for some 130 years. Even today women are paid less than men for comparable work. Black people were denied voting rights for decades longer, and one need only look to a recent court ruling in North Carolina that newly-enacted state legislation was designed with surgical precision to suppress minority voting.

To understand white male privilege, one need merely look at what the facts tell us: that if you are a white male in America there is a good chance that you are wealthier and healthier and have greater access to resources than those of a different race and gender.

I chafe at the notion that the government spends money on programs for those who seem unwilling to pull themselves up on their own. At the same time, I recognize that there are many living in America who have never known the seemingly inherent benefits that come with being white and male in America. And the reason is simply because they are neither white nor male. Rather than look to blame some who are in need because of their own poor decisions, I choose to err on the side of empathy and compassion, hoping that my tax dollars will help at least some who have so little simply because of a simple “accident” of birth.

I likewise chafe at government programs that assist the less advantaged both because I wish that there were no need for such government programs in the first place, and because I fear that many of those programs are ineffectual. They provide assistance and help in the short run but by failing to address the underlying reasons for income, gender and racial inequality, they only perpetuate the very ills they are meant to address.

Simply put, until America decides that it wants every American to prosper, it will remain a divided bastion based on white male privilege, and our government will continue to spend taxpayer money on programs that will continue the status quo.

In short, if everyone does not thrive, then none of us thrives. It’s a simple as that.

From the World of Sports:

UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell, coming off of a big win Saturday night, had a very special bonus offer for the President: if Donald Trump needs him, Mitchell is available to beat up any of the President’s political foes. For free.

“And Donald Trump,” Mitchell yelled, “I’m up here in D.C. If you need help with some politicians, holler at me brother; I’ll do it for free!”

Twitter erupted.

“Hire this man!” one user exclaimed.

“Several sources, like The Guadian, claimed Trump was “booed” at the event, echoing an experience the president had when he appeared at a World Series game the week before in Washington, D.C. Updates to the story, from NBC News and elsewhere, claimed the the reception was “mixed.” Other sources, with reporters on the ground, said Trump was welcomed with open arms at the event, and Trump himself claimed walking into UFC 244 was like “walking into a Trump rally.”

“Walking into Madison Square Garden last night with @danawhite for the big @UFC Championship fight was a little bit like walking into a Trump Rally. Plenty of MAGA & KAG present. Great energy. Fantastic job Dana! Heading to D.C. and then to Kentucky for a big @MattBevin Rally…” Trump tweeted, the morning after the fight.”

“In short, if everyone does not thrive, then none of us thrives. It’s a simple as that.”

Reminds me of Hodge after the 2016 Election. From memory, “If one person feels unsafe, then we are all unsafe” or something like that. If one person is hurting, then all of us are hurting.

As Scenes or Fish would say, “Great bumper sticker slogan”.

“If everyone does not thrive, then none of thrives.” Put that between the Coexist sticker and the Visualize Whirled Peas bumper sticker. How cool is that.

It's counselling time again for the LIBS. (your silence is very much appreciated)
There is a Proggy here who love to point out how the wall wasn't being built. (and badly informed he was)

You LIBS seemed real happy when "O" and Co. defied standing law, picked and chose just which ones to inforce, and ignore.
Many a time defied a judge's ruling.
Well paybacks a bitch.
"Construction of a private section of border wall in Mission, Texas, is continuing despite a district judge's Tuesday decision to temporarily block the work, The Guardian reported Saturday.

The expected 3.5-mile-long private section of border wall is being funded by We Build the Wall, a nonprofit organization founded by U.S. Air Force Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Brian Kolfage that has raised more than $25 million since its start in December 2018."

Tough shit butterfly people. Just what told you it was a good idea to have most of your "reserve" in Mexico?
"When completed, the wall will bisect the National Butterfly Center, a privately owned preserve, leaving 70 of its 100 acres south of the wall"

Now don't be confused Proggys, the FEDS will be doing that work. NOT the private wall patriots.

Odd to see everybody get all religious this Christmas season. Yeah, I said Christmas season, not Holiday Season. Still feels weird saying “Merry Christmas” after having the word “Christmas” on the embargoed list for years until Orange Man Bad appeared. Then Melania went to school cafeterias and messed with the school lunch menus Michele had put in place. Imagine making growing teenagers eat like a bird. Well, that all went over like a fart in church with the Progressives. Melania dissing on the Michael! “Pssst. Pssst! Melania is a immigrant, don’t you know.” Opps, I have disgressec. Back to Queen Nan of the Nunnery orphanage.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is basking in a fresh wave of adulation from her fans in the fake news media. The adulation is occasioned by the rant James Rosen elicited from her at the conclusion of her big impeachment press conference this past Thursday. Asked whether she hates President Trump, Pelosi played (or overplayed) her Catholic card in a big way. She doesn’t hate anybody, she proclaimed. She prays for Trump, so she said.

But does she love Trump? Does she forgive him? That’s what I want to know.

The whole thing looks to me like the kind of skit of which SNL might have been capable back in the day. It is insanely wacky. “Don’t mess with” her, indeed. Or what? She might pray for you too.”

WINNING or IT THE ECONMY STUPIDS, you decide which one or perhaps its both! -

“Since the president’s election in November 2016, the economy has added more than 7 million jobs,” Crowley said. “This is more than the entire population of Massachusetts last year. It’s also 5.1 million more jobs than the Congressional Budget Office, CBO, projected in its final forecast before the 2016 election. What it shows is common sense economic policies based on freedom work. Tax cuts, deregulation, unleashing the energy sector, and trying to realign international trade—all of which this president promised during the campaign, all of which he has delivered. That, in turn, is delivering us this incredible economy.”

Perhaps more importantly than the job growth and historic lows in unemployment is that in November wages rose by 3.1 percent over the last 12 months as well. That means Americans not only have better prospects of finding employment when they want to, but they’re taking home more money when they do find that job. What’s more, among working class and blue collar workers, wages rose at 3.7 percent—higher than the average worker—which means Trump’s economy is helping the very people he set out to help when he launched his 2016 presidential campaign by pledging to stand up for American workers and families left behind by the nation’s elites.

Re: Orange Tariff Man Bad

I remember when the Spotted Owl crisis was in full mode and the mills were closing left and right. Then, magically, cedar siding for new construction siding was coming in from Canada by the semi. Knew some tennagers who would make cedar shakes and sell them to the lumber yard who got put out of business by the Canadian Cedar Shakes coming down into the good ole USA. Maybe 35 years ago, maybe more. The increased semi loads from up north about 25 years ago. At least the Japanese set up a big floating mill right off shore and took our waste wood and sent it right back to us as plywood. Canada has lots of timber. A whole Great North Woods full.

Bet it’s all about Canada not playing by the rules. Maybe too favorable to them, not fair. They are screwing us, folks. Free trade don’t mean fair trade, if you can grasp the concept. Free for them. Let’s take a look at the agreement. Still have those steep tariffs on our farmers? WTF, a 125% tariff on our dairy products? Darn Canooks, taking advantage of us....in the real flesh and blood world.

Merriam-Webster defines a patriot as “one who loves and supports his or her country.”

Here's a great piece by J. Turley:

"Last week artist Maurizio Cattelan reportedly sold his art piece “Comedian,” for $120,000. The work consisted of nothing more than a banana affixed to the wall with duct tape.

Some viewers of the piece saw art. Some saw hype. One person, performance artist David Datuna, saw lunch and proceeded to walk up and eat it. (It was later replaced by another banana and fresh duct tape).

Frankly, when I look at the House efforts to impeach President Trump, I see a banana taped to a wall. As others coo over the power and evidence of the report, I continue to look around scratching my head, wondering why others don’t see the obvious gaps and conflicts. Yes, we’ve heard disturbing accounts, but they are surrounded by contested facts."

The memo from then-Professor Elizabeth Warren was written on Harvard University law school letterhead, a symbol of gravitas for a scholar renowned as a champion for consumers victimized by predatory banks and other big businesses.

But on this occasion, Warren was not arguing on behalf of vulnerable families, nor was she offering the sort of stinging rebuke of corporate greed that would later define her political career. Rather, Warren was representing a large development company that was trying to avoid having to clean up a toxic waste site.

The eight-page memo, which has not previously been reported, offers a rare glimpse of Warren in action during her past work as a corporate consultant - one whose arguments were at times out of step with the liberal presidential campaign she is running today.

Warren's compensation in the 1996 case was included in a summary released by her campaign late Sunday night showing that she had been paid about $2 million as a legal consultant during her time as a professor, most of it between 1995 and 2009.

But Warren, who has released 11 years of tax returns, has not disclosed her tax records from most of that time period. And her campaign has provided few details about her private legal business beyond short descriptions released in May of cases she worked on and the Sunday night disclosure, which came amid a growing feud over transparency between now-Sen. Warren, D-Mass., and rival Pete Buttigieg.

Electability is a central pillar of former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's newly launched presidential campaign, but a poll released Tuesday finds he is deeply unpopular with voters nationwide.

A Monmouth University poll found about twice as many registered voters rated Bloomberg negatively as positively -- 54% unfavorable, 26% favorable. That margin was significantly worse than for five other Democratic candidates, as well as for President Trump. That same measure hampered Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016.

Exxon Mobil Corp. won a closely watched securities-fraud trial that delved into its internal accounting for the financial risks of climate change, a striking rejection of New York state’s claim that the company misled investors for years.

The ruling Tuesday by New York Supreme Court Justice Barry Ostrager in Manhattan is a blow to the state’s attorney general, Letitia James, who accused the energy company of lying about its use of a “proxy cost” for carbon to account for future climate-change regulations.

“The office of the Attorney General failed to prove, by a preponderance of the evidence, that ExxonMobil made any material misstatements or omissions about its practices and procedures that misled any reasonable investor,” Ostrager wrote in a 55-page ruling. The AG “produced no testimony either from any investor who claimed to have been misled by any disclosure,” the judge said.

Chinese dictator Xi Jinping held a meeting of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) political bureau in which 2019 was discussed as an especially “challenging” or “testing” year for communism, particularly due to China’s sputtering economy.

Unmentioned in the Xinhua article were such glitches in the Chinese system as the African swine fever outbreak, cynically referred to by some as “pork Ebola,” that has driven up prices of the Chinese staple food by over 110 percent. Consumer prices overall rose in China by 4.5 percent for the year, the highest increase since 2012.

Generally speaking, outside analysts see China developing a demand problem as its trade war with the U.S. wore on throughout 2019. Economic growth is approaching 30-year lows despite the back-slapping at Xi’s CPC Central Committee meeting, with particularly dire results for working-poor Chinese who restructured their lives and moved across the country to pursue careers during the boom years.

Meanwhile back in the real world those mutha mullahs should be afraid, very afraid (cue creepy music). There has been a lot of time and money spent in this administration getting back to business. The Nighthawks were in ready storage and it seems they are haunting the nights again. Aggressors now but still viable in most of the world and against at sea targets. I would suspect they updated the bays to receive the newest stand off toys too. SWEET! --

Plane-spotter Kris Tanjano was posted up outside the Nellis Test and Training Range in Nevada on Dec. 3, 2019 when he witnessed an aerial exercise play out overhead. F-117s apparently flying from Tonopah Test Range were in the mix along with F-16s, F-15s, F-22s and possibly B-1 bombers coming from Nellis Air Force Base.

The Lockheed-made stealth fighters apparently were acting as radar-evading adversaries in a mock battle with other plane types, Tanjano told Tyler Rogoway at The War Zone. “I witnessed an F-117 along with four F-16s go up against F-15s and F-22s. The F-117's callsign was KNIGHT, the F-16s were GOMER and MIG, and they were communicating on the aggressor frequency.”

“First, the F-16s came in pairs attacking the blue force (F-22s, F-15s, and maybe a B-1) then an F-117 came in at low-level just behind the F-16s towards the blue force,” Tanjano added. “They all fought it out for about five to 10 minutess then restarted for a second push. Once again the F-16s came high overhead, followed by a low-level F-117. Several times the aggressors called out a target which was a low-level heavy aircraft which I believe was B-1, but I am not certain.”

Scott O

George 8:40 - "...and not, say, Russians or the Japanese or ..."
So - they are not human rights, but only the rights enjoyed by American citizens?
I realize the Constitution was a legal document, written by folks who were aware that they had no call nor ability to extend these rights to persons not under our flag.
The question then remains - what 'rights' do non-citizens enjoy while on American soil?
Just some?
And then what Constitutional regulation is in force for non-citizens?
Apparently none - although we can grant some semblance of those rights which are then arbitrarily allowed and enforced?
Illegal Mexicans are said to have full rights as soon as they hit our side of the border. Saudis here on official and legal business have - what? Some or no rights?
I believe our brothers on the left side of the political fence have some 'splainin' to do.
Although I realize they will not as they have no ability to understand the issue.

Russ - you miss an important feature. If you or I were to, say - unzip our pants and piss on camera when some official activity were in progress at Fishermans' Wharf - we would be arrested. The current craze for being gender fluid certainly does not apply to you or me. Try telling the parent outside of a women's bathroom their 13 year old daughter just went into that you just decided to 'identify' as a woman as you saunter into said facility. I can certainly tell you now that those same leftists would have a much different agenda at that point.
The left has gone down the rabbit hole of absurdity from which there is no coming back save the sane actions of adults on the conservative side. I currently reside in a state where even the most lunatic leftist has never claimed the right for adult humans to urinate or defecate in public.
The actual matter at hand is the left trying to see how far they can go in making the public acquiesce to their nonsense. If the left can cow the general public into accepting anti-science with fabricated realities of 107 different genders, and letting certain people relieve themselves in public, then they can move forward with their far more dangerous visions of social order.

Mountainous West Virginia “is the perfect venue for our highly-trained Special Forces to help these two nations' military forces develop the skills vital to their mission at home, which is extraordinarily important in this era of geo-political uncertainty,” U.S. Army major general James Hoyer, adjutant general of the West Virginia National Guard, said in a statement.
“This summer, [troops from] Latvia and Poland traveled to West Virginia for the program,” Rempfer wrote. “Both nations have newly invigorated homeland defense forces capable of pushing back against an invading force and opposing a potential occupation.”

The units are trained to provide response during the early stages of a hybrid conflict. Their tasks could include slowing the advancing units of an aggressor nation by destroying key transportation infrastructure such as bridges, attacking enemy forces at choke-points and potentially serving as forward observers for NATO aircraft responding with air strikes.

Polish Territorial Defense Forces, for instance, typically have a role similar to that of the U.S. National Guard, supporting local communities and acting as a reserve base for conventional forces
Militia operations could turn the table on Russia’s own strategy for influencing and even annexing countries along its periphery. The Kremlin often deploys anonymous special forces -- Pres. Vladimir Putin’s “little green men” -- in advance of a conventional attack.

Little green men occupied key sites and sowed confusion in the days preceding Russia’s 2014 invasion of Ukraine’s strategic Crimean Peninsula.

Here is why you exercise-
Their capabilities “would range from cyber to drones to long-range mobile communications and non-lethal weapons as well as small arms, explosives, anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons,” wire-service AFP explained, citing the report.

“The idea proposed by the report's authors would be to organize each Baltic country's defenses around four levels of resistance,” AFP reported.

"Violent" units made up of special forces, reservists and undefeated combat units would be charged with carrying out ambushes or freeing prisoners, under the scheme outlined in the report.
Less heavily-equipped units composed of police or amateur sharpshooters would be in charge of sabotage operation

Hillary Clinton, Chris Steele Allege Boris Johnson Is A Russian Stooge

Given his dismal track record, it’s stunning that Christopher Steele has again surfaced, just before the U.K. election that will decide Brexit, to claim that Johnson is a Russian asset.

Hillary Clinton is back, and so is Chris Steele, this time in the United Kingdom. They are no less than implying that current Conservative (Tory) Prime Minister Boris Johnson is a Russian plant. And it’s no mistake that these allegations are being made just before a U.K. general election on December 12 that will decide the fate of Brexit.

It started last month, when the U.K.’s leftwing Guardian newspaper reported the existence of a secret report that said the Russians spent five years “cultivating leading Tories including Johnson…” The 50-page “dossier” from the U.K.’s intelligence and security committee is “based on analysis from Britain’s intelligence agencies, as well as third-party experts such as the former MI6 officer Cristopher Steele…”

That’s crazy, because Steele is the same man who claimed the Russians had been “cultivating, supporting, and assisting” Trump “for at least ..........

OK. The IG asks Ted Bundy "did you murder all those girls?" No, I did not says Bundy. IG reports no testimonial of a killer found.

Castaneda 1207pm - Does your world allow differentiation between attempted meddling in an election (which every country that can, has done since time immemorial) and having a discernible impact on it (of which there is no evidence)? The more numerous lesser lights among us cannot so discriminate, and I would think that Trump is communicating with them when he uses 'meddling'.

You don't get out much, do you Carloada?
All the Canadians I know think Trudeau is a joke. They'd much prefer to have Trump.
Just remember - that 'pompous ass' oversees an America with almost no unemployment.
For millions of our citizens, that's no joke.
