George Rebane
President Trump delivered his best speech ever giving the nation its State of the Union. He ticked off an impressive list of accomplishments that benefitted every corner and population segment of the country. He did a masterful job in selecting and managing the events in the gallery that honored and represented the many deserving. And there was nothing nasty in his words, presented themes, and visions for America’s future. All this while the Democrats sat like sore pustules in their seats denying the uncomfortable truths of accomplishments while they have spent their energies in trying every sleazy trick in the book to bring this president down simply because he beat their Chosen One.
But the prize and truly historical moment of disrespect came at the end of the speech when Speaker Nancy Pelosi, sitting behind the President, visibly made a show of tearing in half her copy of the speech and throwing the pieces on her desk in full view of the American public. With that Great Divide play she bet the ranch that Americans see their country and future through the jaundiced eyes of the radical left progressives. To my knowledge, no American political leader has publicly so vehemently and visibly dissed another political leader in the history of our Republic. I believe she will live to rue the day in the coming months, because we will see that planned and egregious tantrum over and over again as the election approaches.
The 2020 election season officially started tonight.
Hah, I miscalled it.
It was obvious there had to be some sort of planned, very public, gesture. I was thinking marching out as a body or not inviting the Prez. Ripping up the speech, brilliant.
Don't doubt for a second it was preplanned and there was a big Team Blue Meeting to figure out just how and when to do it.
I agree that you'll see it in political ads. It might be a series of commercials used to tie the (D) candidate to California (nobody in any battleground state likes California), Pelosi front and center tearing up the speech, voice-over talking about how Democrats tear up the Constitution. Trump 2020. Fade to black.

I mean, seriously, the guys working on Trump's campaign and media presence are high-fiving each other as we speak. Nancy's Tantrum(tm) is a perfect bit of usable political theatre and can be messaged 'til the cows come home.

lol. The interwebz moves pretty fast. I've already seen my first pic of Pelosi tearing the Constitution taken from the State of the Union. Wikipedia got altered like so:
"On September 24, 2019, Pelosi announced the commencement of impeachment hearings into President Donald Trump.[7][8] On January 10, 2020, she announced that she would end the impasse and alerted the House that she would send the articles of impeachment to the Senate the following week.[9] Speaker Pelosi was officially broken by President Trump on February 4, 2020 after the State of the Union when Pelosi ripped up her copy of Trump's speech."
Changed back already of course. Off to the races indeed.

Opps, moi correction @ 9:20 pm.
“Great post, Dr. Rebane. The Road to the White House has officially been launched.”
Launched is too gentle of a word. Tonight, Trumped rocketed himself out of the starting gate. Tomorrow, he will deliver the vicious front uppercut under their cracked ribs that will put them on the mat for a few hours. First knockdown of 2020 and the year is still oh so young.

Dems put on a show for a tiny gaggle of noisy hate-maddened lunatics. Trump played to a vastly larger audience, a contrast perfectly captured by him delivering a poetic and inspirational closing while Pelosi acted like a toddler and ripped up a copy of his speech.

Trump gets by with a Lilie help from his friend in white.
“Truth be told, he couldn’t do it without Pelosi’s help. She has overplayed her hand time and again, and her insistence that Trump is an illegitimate president has presented Americans with a stark either-or choice. They wisely rejected impeachment as too radical, which is something she initially said herself before succumbing to the mob mentality.
And she’s just led her party into another embarrassing dead end. Combined with Trump’s strong record, the chaos in the Dems’ Iowa caucus, the lackluster field of presidential candidates and the failed impeachment, the president is off to a roaring start for the campaign.
We can add Pelosi’s televised tantrum to the growing list of his achievements.”

PELOSI’S PIQUE......the stained dress
“If not an escapee from the asylum, Pelosi might have qualified as a candidate for commitment. She needs help. With help, she could perhaps impersonate a normal human being. That’s the way it looked.......
I would guess that Pelosi felt obligated to display her disapproval to the other women in white and their soulmates in the Democratic caucus. Respect and courtesy are not their thing. Rashida Tlaib’s January 2019 vow that she and her colleagues would “impeach the mother” expressed the derangement of the inmates whose ranks Pelosi leads.
Pelosi brags that the impeachment of President Trump marks him forever. This is how she thinks. That is her contribution. Perhaps, however, President Trump will be the first president impeached by the House to win reelection. Then what?
Most moments State of the Union speeches come and go without leaving a mark. President Trump provided many deeply touching if not transcendent moments last night. The stain with which Pelosi marked herself last night should prove indelible.”

comma-man: ",,,another Trump lie,,,GDP...what happened to the 5-6 percent Trumpskkki promised???
2.3 GDP equals 5-6 GDP in Trump lemmings math..."
Dunno where you got your numbers, and far be it from me to expect any to actually look this up, but I'm seeing quite a lot higher GDP growth rate using IMF values. Of course, I'm using per capita, inflation-corrected values as opposed to Schiff math. 4.5% for 2018 and 3.8% for 2019(est.)
Generally, I'd say that the kind of thing that matters to most people is this chart:
https://www.financialsamurai.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/median-household-income-688x500.png
Where you can see two things. (1) The Obama problem and (2) the lack of real growth over time. Even going back 50 years, the rate of median increase is pretty low. I'd say that people are getting poorer not just due to wage stagnation but also because of clawback from an ever-increasing burden of taxes and regulations. Just think about how much less gasoline would cost if we weren't collecting money for the children.
My personal view is that the economy follows it's own piper and the connection between it and partisan politics is hard to track. No doubt a person could even argue about what 'household income' is. Working in a factory? Receiving a check from the government? Tax free busking?
Perhaps you could treat us with a rant on 'CHILDREN IN CAGES' next.

President Trumps State of the Union speech was wonderful and uplifting. He always includes special citizens for recognition that shows he’s conscious of we the people, our Constitution and Bill of Rights and America. Pelosi and her Dem cult only think about their power that’s dividing America. Such hatred is destructive and anti-American.
Posted by: Bonnie | 05 February 2020 at 08:29 PM
Where do we go from here. Where do the Democrats go from here?
“Now the smoke will begin to clear, and I don’t think the Democrats will like the landscape that comes into focus. Their Iowa caucuses were a laughingstock. They made fools of themselves (Nancy Pelosi, especially) during Trump’s State of the Union speech. And, most seriously, they don’t have a presidential candidate. Joe Biden is in freefall, and the party’s elders, such as they are, concede that Bernie Sanders would be a disaster. Will they turn to “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg? Will Michael Bloomberg be their savior? Or will Hillary Clinton or John Kerry come out of retirement? I think they are grasping at straws.
For a long time now, the Democrats have used their hysterical attacks on President Trump to deflect attention from the real scandal–the misuse of the Obama administration’s Department of Justice, FBI and CIA to spy on, and plot against, the Trump presidential campaign and, subsequently, his administration. This is the biggest political scandal in American history, and the Democrats, with the Russia hoax, Ukraine and impeachment now a spent force, are naked, so to speak. One can only imagine with what anxiety they are awaiting the findings of John Durham’s investigation and any criminal indictments that may accompany them.
Much will change between now and November, but this week has been a dark time for the Democratic Party, and a shining moment for America.”

One for Robert Cross....just one man’s opinion. Good read.
‘Joe Biden’s Epic Iowa Belly Flop’
“Every Biden donor knows they’ve bet on the wrong horse. Writing Biden more checks is just flushing money down the toilet.”.....
“The Democrats who sat silently and sourly at the State of the Union address on Tuesday, as if they were attending their own funeral, also knew it. Nobody knows for certain what the Democratic establishment’s Plan B or Plan C is (Bloomberg? Klobuchar? Buttigieg? It is easier to see how they will lose the election to Trump than how they will win), but those plans no longer involve Ol’ Joe.
There will not be a Biden nomination, and probably not even a Biden campaign by May.”

I don’t know how they pulled it off, but those rascally Dems have found a way to blame us deplorables for the Iowa Caucus Dumpster Fire. It’s all our fault. Truly we are Dregs of Society. I take full responsibility.
“Red-faced Iowa Democrats have zeroed in on a new culprit for the botched caucuses that may cost the Hawkeye State its time-honored role as the kickoff to presidential races. After first blaming an app for the inability to declare Monday night, a problem that still lingers even as frustrated candidates have packed up and moved on to New Hampshire for the nation's first primary, the state party is blaming the president's supporters.”
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-supporters-flood-hotline-for-iowa-precinct-chairs-adding-to-the-chaos-report

There are rumors flying around that the Iowa Caucus final tally has been found in a warehouse in Puerto Rico. I don’t believe that. It’s more likely that Nancy ripped up the only final tally the other evening.
Now everybody is mad that Nancy ripped up the speech. I’m not. We have all done questionable things when we were drunk.
At least theDems can get their money back for the custom Impeachment pens Nancy proudly passed out. They didn’t work.

WHO WON THE IOWA CAUCUSES? WE STILL DON’T KNOW
“The way I look at it, Buttigieg and Sanders are basically co-winners. Elizabeth Warren lost. Joe Biden lost big.
Given my recent track record on predictions, I probably shouldn’t make any. However, a while back when Biden was leading in some Iowa polls, I opined that Biden isn’t the kind of candidate who wins the Iowa caucuses. That turned out to be quite an understatement.”

“Without Biden, it’s hard to see how Democrats stop a takeover by Sanders and unelectable radical socialists, and avoid a debilitating civil war at the July nominating convention in Milwaukee. Michael Bloomberg’s billions won’t be enough.
The debacle of their failed caucus phone app, designed by Clintonistas, was the perfect metaphor for this creaky, crooked Democratic machine in its death throes.
They could have regrouped after their 2016 defeat, humbly acknowledged error and worked out how to win again another day.
Instead, they wasted their energy denying they lost the election and creating pre-alibis for why they’ll lose the next.“

This could be drop out derby or there off but either way we be piling on!
Either way, Biden may soon get to sleep at home every night. The state of his campaign is far shakier than his longtime lead in the national polls would suggest. In fact, it may already be on its last legs.
To be sure, he retains some advantages. His national polling leads persists. His singular emphasis on electability — the perception that he is best suited to “beat” Donald Trump “like a drum” — matches what Democratic voters consistently tell pollsters they most desire in a nominee. And Biden has long held a significant lead among black Democrats, who dominate the upcoming South Carolina primary on Feb. 29 and will effectively pick its winner.
Yet upon closer examination, it’s also clear that each of these supposed strengths is starting to crumble.
For Biden, that’s the doomsday scenario: another poor result in New Hampshire, followed by a third rout in Nevada, where Sanders’s crack caucus team is sure to out-organize him. More than three weeks of negative news cycles eating away at his electability advantage. Black voters in South Carolina jumping ship — and a finish there that fails to meet expectations. Fundraising dries up. Then Bloomberg pounces three days later, on Super Tuesday.

They’re Off! Opps, they are still in the starting gate doing battles with Russia.
‘Democrat Congresswoman Blames Iowa Caucus Disaster On Russia’
https://thefederalist.com/2020/02/06/democrat-congresswoman-blames-iowa-caucus-disaster-on-russia/
Boy, this morning they were blaming Republicans for the Iowa Caucus dumpster fire. Never mind they were the ones that done shot themselves in the foot, blowing their big toe clean off. Now, it’s the Russians. Russians, Russians, Russians.
Wonder who will blamed next. Ah, heck, let them take their sweet time in the starting gate. It’s not like they are an hurry to meet the mortician.

They’re Off! Gallop poll
“Sure, a lot can change between now and November. But with 74% of Americans looking forward to being more prosperous a year from now, it is hard to imagine a majority thinking that a radical change in the direction of socialism is a good idea. A huge majority of Americans, whatever they may think of Donald Trump, appear to be invested in the direction the country is moving.”

Now that's interesting -
During a town hall event in Derry, New Hampshire, a swing voter asked Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) why he now supports unchecked immigration rather than holding true to his former position that such a policy is an effort to suppress Americans’ wages by the donor class.
In front of a packed audience, the swing voter, a poverty-stricken white female, said she admired Sanders’ authenticity but could not understand why he has dropped his opposition to mass, unchecked low-wage immigration — which he has consistently admitted, until this election cycle, drives down wages for American workers.

it's doubtful that a House and Senate can be taken by Dems while losing the Presidency. Again.
At some point, dems in office will have to accept they lost.

Well, it is a good question. Mr. Bernie, of course, can sniff out a dollar just like the Sierra Club did.
Politicians, Trump included, are never forced to justify their position, so there's nothing to see here. I've always enjoyed the hand waving about food prices when (a)the labor content of food is pretty darned low and (b) a small minority (4%? that's a number I've run into) of illegal aliens are in the farm labor biz.
Sanders is still somewhat charming in that he appears to believe that the DNC apparatchiks will allow him the win. My gut tells me that the occasional crazy socialist is less dangerous to the Republic than the so-called Deep State, so he is welcome to give it all a shot.

They’re off. From the lady at the range
“.The Gun Grabbers’ first line of attack consists of bald-faced lying. They lump into the stats about “gun violence” suicides, self-defense, and accidents. Heck, I even saw a newspaper report of a funeral in Chicago which was shot up by the mourners – 12, 13 people shot – the funeral being for a career carjacker who picked the wrong car and ended up dead. The “journalist” described the late felon as “killed by gun violence.” No. He was killed by stupidity, evil, and bad luck. He was ENGAGING in violence and lost. It happens.
The article was tellingly vague, but the odds are excellent that the person protecting his BMW was the same race as the dead loser. Otherwise, we would still be hearing about the racist tragedy of it all because the carjacker was surely just about to “turn his life around” and become a cardiologist.
The gun grabbing by the Nazis and the Communists and how that turned out is well documented. But what about the countries that have knuckled under more recently? The Aussies are a tough and admirable people, but they have neither the same constitutional protection nor history as we do. They allowed themselves, at least on paper, to be disarmed. Not here. Not ever. The grandstanding little Attention Hoggs, the pandering politicians, the pint-sized billionaire soda scold who heaped scorn and criticism upon the Texas church hero, will not prevail. Pass all the laws you want restricting our sacred constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Law enforcement will not enforce; gun owners will not comply.“...
“Congratulations, Virginians, on a beautiful Second Amendment rally. I feel pretty safe from the gun grabbers here in gun-friendly Arizona. But should push come to shove, at least in my neighborhood, it is by no means settled science who would be pushed and what would be shoved and where, Eric Swalwell and his nuclear warheads notwithstanding. Little Green Greta fantasizes about walls for mass execution; Bernie Bots gleefully anticipate gulags; Kathy Griffin favors beheading; but only Eric looks forward to nuking his fellow citizens. What comes after dialing it up to eleven?“

Pete Buttigieg campaign roasted for adding applause to CNN town hall clips
https://www.foxnews.com/media/pete-buttigieg-cnn-town-hall-applause
Personally, I don’t think Mayor Pete has a chance. He has zero black support. The media does not know the black community rank and file that is. They are a religious group as a whole and while nobody will come out and say it, they are opposed to same sex marriage. A foretaste of this was CA Proposition 8 which confused the gay community when the majority of the black community did not stand with same-sex marriage.
It’s too bad for the Dems that they do not have a President Candidate this time around. No politically skilled Bill Clinton, no hope and change Barrack, no statesman. That is hard row to hoe.
After Beto, I wonder who the next media created sensation will be. Like Mitt will learn, once they are done with you, they will drop you like a hot rock.

Before moving forward on They’re Off!’, I would like to reaffirm my appreciation to the one and only Ragin’ Cajun, aka, the Swamp Thing, aka, James Carville. Go Rajin Cajun, go!,
WE’RE LOSING OUR DAMN MINDS
Sean Illing: Give me an example of what you mean by distractions.
James Carville: We have candidates on the debate stage talking about open borders and decriminalizing illegal immigration. They’re talking about doing away with nuclear energy and fracking. You’ve got Bernie Sanders talking about letting criminals and terrorists vote from jail cells. It doesn’t matter what you think about any of that, or if there are good arguments — talking about that is not how you win a national election. It’s not how you become a majoritarian party. . .
Sean Illing: So your complaint is basically that the party has tacked too far to the left?
James Carville: They’ve tacked off the damn radar screen. And look, I don’t consider myself a moderate or a centrist. I’m a liberal. But not everything has to be on the left-right continuum. . .
Here’s another stupid thing: Democrats talking about free college tuition or debt forgiveness. I’m not here to debate the idea. What I can tell you is that people all over this country worked their way through school, sent their kids to school, paid off student loans. They don’t want to hear this shit. And you saw Warren confronted by an angry voter over this. It’s just not a winning message.
The real argument here is that some people think there’s a real yearning for a left-wing revolution in this country, and if we just appeal to the people who feel that, we’ll grow and excite them and we’ll win. But there’s a word a lot of people hate that I love: politics. It means building coalitions to win elections. It means sometimes having to sit back and listen to what people think and framing your message accordingly. . .
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/02/were-losing-our-damn-minds.php
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Nancy and Chucky and the Ladies in White and Hillary and Joy and Leftist Media and some The Union commentators are pissed beyond reason, frustrated beyond exasperation, and, yes, they have gone off their rockers. And it’s only early Feb.
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 08 February 2020 at 02:12 PM
BillT: "they have gone off their rockers"
It is one of those mysteries.
As a practical matter, Trump policy, both regulations and asked-for bits of legislation, just aren't that radical.
Ya gotta guy who has dropped taxes some, spent some money on physical border security, attempts to rationalize national pollution law, all of which are arguable things mind you, and what you get is Hitler.
The overreaction is one of the funniest things I've seen in my adult life.
The scared kids retelling ghost stories might be just a side effect of the internet. Maybe Emerianism is just the face of politics from here on as people re-tell each other the most ridiculous things.
My take is on a longer view. Government policies come and go but cultures actually live or die. Trump (or a harridan like Warren) is just a reflection of the hoi polloi. If Western Civilization wants to kill itself off I'm certainly not going to stop it. It'll be like the Yellowstone caldera, just sit back with a book and a drink and enjoy the show.
