Swine flu H1N1 Apr09-Jan10. 57M Americans infected, 257K hospitalized, 11,690 died. Does anyone remember any full court press on Obama by the media and the Repubs as today we witness dished out hourly by the Dems and their lamestream in their vilification of Trump? (H/T to reader.)
Russia impacted the 2016 election. Those lyrics of our leftwing loonies still rings out loud and clear across the land. And since that chorus started, tens of millions have been spent in the attempt to find any evidence, all to no avail. Admittedly, our Left is not all that good with the finer points of English as they continue to confuse ‘attempt’ and ‘impact’, or is it really one from their repertoire of Big Lies broadcast daily? That's called trolling for the dummies.
Coronavirus info link for Nevada County – NC Health and Human Services. The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital has announced a new testing program; see 17mar20 update here.
[18mar20 update] Epidemic model used by policy makers revealed, and also news of a stop-gap medicine to prevent and fight Covid19. See the 18mar20 update to 'Testing, testing, ...' here.
Correlation of the nation's blue concentrations with the incidence of Covid19 was pointed out in a reader's correspondence. Apparently no one in the media has yet to make the connection. (more here)
Lots of people buying guns and ammo. The Left should recognize that these are not the nation’s gun owners who have already laid in their stash of Second Amendment armaments. It is the latest tranche of newbies who have had their ‘gun epiphanies’ by the tens (hundreds?) of thousands. The feds confirm this through the surge in background checks, and the dealers confirm it by reporting that these desperate buyers will take any available gun with any kind of ammo that fits. Those of us who have owned guns for years would never even consider doing that for more reasons that we simply don’t have to.
All the Dems grousing about Trump’s “failure to handle the pandemic” are simply full of horseshit (aka bull pucky). No one dares to compare America’s response with the actual numbers of what the other Left-celebrated countries have done. Grab any metric that you have available. And the biggest farce is the so-implied massive testing that other countries have done. The challenge is to discover what marginal benefit to prophylactic or prescriptive policies has their testing provided that shows America is somehow behind the response curve. Nothing – but ‘testing’ is the only thing that the Dems have, with no better (or any) plans of their own, to try to get some traction against the Trump administration.
Ordering out from restaurants. Lots of people are buying into this alternative as an easy way to get good food without risking Covid19 infection. Not so advise the thinking medicos. You have no guarantee of what kind of food was used to prepare in what manner by personnel in what kind of pre-symptomatic condition within kitchens of unknown sanitary state that are frequented by numerous people whose outside contacts are also totally unknown. The infectious disease experts tell us to order out is still a crapshoot.
A novel idea,,,,,
"A Colorado sheriff’s office has responded to the coronavirus outbreak with a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post asking criminals to stop their unlawful antics until further notice.
"We appreciate your anticipated cooperation in halting crime and thank criminals in advance," says the post that was written Monday by the Logan County Sheriff's Office. "We will update you when you can return to your normal criminal behavior."

And there is the County Sherriffs Office in Tennessee (or Idaho or somewhere) that has posted that they will test all meth for Coronavirus for free! Just bring the baggies in to our local office for testing. A public service announcement. :)
Better than posting up signs declaring this or that place is a ‘Coronavirus Free Zone’.

Fascist Frisco gets some push back.

"“All of a sudden we are supposed to accept 24-hour curfews ‘for your own safety’ from people who order the police to stand down when Antifa & friends beat the hell out of taxpayers; people who refuse to enforce laws they don’t like (death penalty, bail, property crimes)?” she continued.
“City leaders who literally give wanted alien criminals a public heads up when ICE is about to conduct raids are now telling me what’s best, declaring a death penalty for businesses, no hearings or due process?! Forgive me if I don’t fall right into line with the fascism which seems awfully situational,” Dhillon wrote.
Dhillon argued the recommendations for senior citizens to stay inside “seemed reasonable,” but, “Liberal city leaders decided to seize the opportunity and throw the whole economy into a tailspin as collateral damage but don’t worry — we’ll soon have a government sponsored bailout for favored groups soon, funded with a tax increase crammed down the throats of the dwindling number of taxpayers.” "

re: Captain Trips.
Grocery stores appeared to be pretty well stocked, although toilet paper appears gone. Grocery Outlet has cheap-ass paper towels that can be repurposed for your TP needs, so good on 'em. No rice/beans/flour but everything else seems available.
Speaking of Grocery Outlet. Crowds of people, no masks or gloves or customer accessible sanitizers (bring your own, especially for cart handles. You don't want to see the studies on those). Plenty o' HH denizens and the like.
Strong suggestion from here on out. Go when they just open. The store is a godsend in some ways but has a lot of infection opportunities right now.

Got a panic e-mail yesterday. Somehow the ‘shelter in place’ command to the 6 Bay Area counties yesterday got confused with everywhere in the State. Might be a dry run. You know, they are all in this together. Police State....something the Feds are barred from doing and cannot do even if they wanted to. Has to come from our State and local leaders....’Police State enforces Shelter in Place”
I replied that it’s only guidelines for our area and they won’t give them a ticket for driving to the store to do shopping and such....for now. Also, sent the Chronicle link, thank you Fish or Scenes. :).
Martial Law from the Governor? Curfews? Boy, that would be like sneaking out of my bedroom window at night when I was in jr. high. Sneaking out on a midnight run. Look both ways if you got your headlights out. How exciting.

News from greater Penntucky area:
The new Dollar General has been restocked since Sun late afternoon...and the PV Hardware Store will give you free curbside deliver for purchases of 50 bucks or more and $5 UCLA for curbside delivery of orders of under 50 smackers. Think there is a 65 and older discount.
I could not believe it that between the time I went to DG on my run into the fine mist virus air and came home to realize I forgot an item much more important than TP (coffee), and drove back out immediately, they had already restocked the sections I had just been an hour previously. Saw a meme that reads, “Psssst. Good ole Dollar General has TP”.
In other Penntucky news, the local branch of WellsFargo is closing in June. Unrelated to the Pandemic.

When the outbreak was first detected at the start of 2015, there were immediate calls from public health experts for Pence to lift the ban on syringe exchanges to stop the spread of the disease, but he held off, remaining morally opposed to needle exchanges despite a wealth of evidence that such practices do not encourage more drug use, and successfully curb the spread of HIV.
Pence instead told people he was going to pray on what to do. By the time he finally signed an executive order in March allowing a needle exchange in Scott county, where Austin is located, weeks had passed and dozens of more cases had been confirmed.

D(uh) 3:59 - So Pence is responsible for people that choose to pass their diseases around?
If he was honest I think he'd have to admit that it was the fact that Pence prayed about what to do is what upset him. If Pence wasn't a particularly religious democrat and instead appointed a "Blue Ribbon Committee" or "Intergovernmental Task Force" that came to the same conclusion in the same amount of time he would have been fine with it!
It's very important to hate the proper people when you're a member in good standing of the progressive left !

Gregory: "You never let a serious crisis go to waste", eh, Steve?
Well, heck yeah. Anyone who will wage a civil war over open borders and men in dresses would certainly use an epidemic to win an election.
Honestly, you're kind of screwed in cases like this. The government is ponderous, and it's never clear what to do in any case. If you're successful, it looks like too much action was taken for a nothingburger. If not, you killed my grandma!
Truth is, in a shrinking economy of this type (rightsizing?), maybe there won't be as much room for useless non-profit organizations, especially the report generatin' kind. People might have to find worthwhile professions in a more serious world.
If this is really big, an awful lot of societal cruft is going to get jettisoned. It's a worrying thing which might result in lashing out on local blogs so I try to have an understanding viewpoint.

Might be a good time to be homeless. Shelter in Place does not apply to the less fortunate among us.
What Happens When Coronavirus Hits The Homeless Camps In California?
“As six counties in the San Francisco Bay Area have issued shelter-in-place orders (from which the homeless are exempt), the effort to find permanent solutions for a pandemic reaching the homeless remains wanting. Thirty homeless people in San Francisco are being tested for the illness.
Two of the three states most affected by the Wuhan coronavirus are Washington and California, both notorious for intractable homelessness. The authorities are worried the pandemic might get out of hand once COVID-19 makes it into homeless encampments. San Jose Mercury News summarized:
If they are infected, homeless people face a higher risk of getting very sick from the disease, experts say. They tend to be older, and their immune systems already may be compromised by other chronic illnesses, drug or alcohol use, and the harsh realities of street living.“

The "world" is their shelter Bill! Had the distinct displeasure of spending some time near Sutter hospital in downtown Sac yesterday while middle daughter took a trip through the MRI tube. Urban camper #1 hit me up for change. When I declined he turned and proudly displayed a two weeks worth skid mark along the the area where one might expect to see two weeks worth of skid mark! Had money for smokes though. Urban campers #2 & #3 were good enough to cover themselves with sleeping bags while they shot up across the street from McD's as well.......hey guys.....we could see what you were up to!
Why bother covering up? Sac PD isn't going to do anything.

It occurred to me that as US cities start to rhyme with those in India, what with the squalor and all, that the homeless are simply our version of the cow.
No one much takes care of them but there's a kind of holiness around the concept. You daren't try to get rid of them. Pretty soon the locals will start decorating them for festivals.

I am confused. First, the Libs were waiting for all us old dinosaurs to quickly die off and then the world would become their oyster. Then a pandemic comes along and they are showering us with attention, special hours at the Big Boxes, neighbors checking in to see if we need anything, and an apparent concern for our well being. Weird times, bro. Most unexpected. Most unusual.
I sure the concern will pass and we will revert back to bitter clingers and racist Dregs of Society in due time.
Word of caution. Don’t wear your MAGA cap out in public. The public is stressed enough already. Safety first. :)

I remember when the blood supply got tainted. Knew a dearly departed in GV that caught Hep C from a blood infusion for his heart or some serious ailment. Made him ineligible for organ transplant. He asked, “why didn’t they just give him a bullet?”
Go ahead D and defend sodomy as a good hill to die on. This is the year 2020. Keep up with the times. Besides, we all read AOC’s tweet about Pence and Indiana HIV in 1990.....weeks ago, silly. Yep, the headlines and media were full of stories about the gay plague in the 80’s. They say that AIDS blew the Herbes epidemic right off the front pages and destined it to dustbin of history. It’s just a cold sore..
Now we have COVID blow everything off the front pages, including AIDS and the 6,000 who have died this year worldwide from the normal flu. It’s still flu season, but who would know?

Ya sure its all Trump fault for saying Chinese virus, just the facts ma'am it is the chi coms who screwed the world -
The World Health Organization (WHO) is now haunted by a tweet it sent earlier this year when it cited Chinese health officials who claimed there had been no human transmissions of the novel coronavirus within the country yet.
The Jan. 14 tweet came less than two months before WHO declared COVID-19 to be a global pandemic.
"Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China," the organization had said.
It also relied on information from Chinese health authorities who have been accused of obscuring facts and figures during the course of the outbreak.
The Chinese government reportedly knew the disease was spreading before the tweet was sent, according to the South China Morning Post.
The New York Times' China correspondent, Amy Quin, said Tuesday on Twitter that the country had begun expelling American journalists.
Axios reporter Jonathan Swan drew attention to Quin's story on social media the next day and went on to criticize the Chinese government for instituting a cover-up, and failing to deliver life-saving information to the public.
"Terrible. We desperately need accurate reporting from China," he tweeted. "The pandemic originated in Wuhan & was initially covered up by Chinese authorities. University of Southampton study found there would have been a 95 % REDUCTION in cases & less spread if Beijing intervened 3 wks sooner."
"The world is directly affected by China’s domestic governance," he added."The suppression of doctors sounding the alarm, censoring of public health info online and now the expulsion of the journalists who are working to reveal what happened in the crucial early days of this pandemic."

Hey this one is worthy of the pony tail of ignorance posting before the correction! LOL -
The Washington Post was forced to issue a correction after columnist Jennifer Rubin attacked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., for allegedly not rushing to pass financial aid during the national coronavirus emergency.
In a column published Tuesday that trashed President Trump's handling of the coronavirus outbreak, the self-described "conservative blogger" took a swipe at McConnell, comparing him to a sloth for his inaction on a relief package.
"Finally, the Republican-led Senate is fiddling while Rome burns. The failure to take an immediate vote on the House's relief package last week was emblematic of the sloth and irresponsibility of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell," Rubin wrote.
However, Rubin's characterization of McConnell turned out not to be accurate.
The Post explained in a correction at the top of Rubin's column the next day.
"An earlier version of this article incorrectly said that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) delayed a vote on the House’s coronavirus relief package. In fact, McConnell vowed to move at 'warp speed' on the bill and it was only delayed due to a demand from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for an amendment on the bill. This version has been updated," the correction read.

Democrat Dark Money Groups To Spend Millions Politicizing Wuhan Flu
“Crises like this one should be a time for national unity, and instead, this large left-wing dark money group is taking advantage of the coronavirus to score cheap political points against the president,” Adam Laxatal, outside counsel of Americans For Public Trust, told The Federalist.
Laxatal said that while the White House is busy trying to secure financial support for Americans and small businesses, these Democrat groups are secretly spending millions of dollars in political campaigns.”

To go with the ball Mr. Frisch so kindly handed off:
""Correlation of the nation's blue concentrations with the incidence of Covid19 was pointed out in a reader's correspondence. Apparently no one in the media has yet to make the connection."--George Rebane"
What are the more obvious connections. More immigrants? Especially the unintegrated variety that keep closer ties with foreign countries? Probably. Higher density of people? More public transit? Cultures with multi-generational households (ie. not Anglos). Dunno on all these until I saw better numbers on cases per million.
On the face of it, the yoeman farmer ideal doesn't seem like such a bad notion. The future of uninfected America is in BF Egypt along with all those silly rubes. No $6 coffee and no one will pay you to write reports, but being useful has it's own rewards.

Morning Scenes.
“On the face of it, the yoeman farmer ideal doesn't seem like such a bad notion.”
Yeoman: A Yoeman was a property owner but beneth a gentleman in a social rank.
Well, that pretty much describes at lot of folks around here.
Point to be made. Marijuana business. Stories are coming out about folks panic buying TP, hand sanitizer, guns, and marijuana. This morn there is a story about Michigan loosening the rules of its pot shops (because of the Chinese Flu) to temporarily allow curbside service to the consumers.
With that in mind, good thing we have 2-3,000 growers here. Because someone put a gun to their heads and forced them to sell the lion’s share of the harvest out of state (they blame regs, $, and taxes on the County for not going legit), I think our local economy will hum along with all those green back a dollars rolling it from out of state.
Remember, the purpose of the local herb industry is to make sure the stores and streets of our Nevada City merchants do not roll up the sidewalks, shutter the doors, and turn into a dying town. Like the lottery, our schools win too!
That theory will be put to the test. We do have local deliveries already up and running before The Plague.. “Da Plague, da plague! Look Boss, the Plague!” I miss Tatoo.
Last thought on the stress small businesses here are under. Just last fall we had the Turkey Day power shut-offs looming after intermittent days of no power. Cancel Christmas?? So, the local merchants had to go out and buy generators at their peak gouging price to get their stores open....some had to borrow heavily on top of loss of revenue. Now the Plague. Looks like the Plague shutdown will not be over in a week or two. Consider it as a long blackout.
One superstition I have is never ask “What could be worse?” Sometimes that question is answered in hours or the next afternoon. Usually, something added to the mix...something bad like a car accident when you are coming back for the ER all bandaged up. So, l won’t ask what could be worse, but I will ask, “What is the next shoe to drop.”
Imagine a run on Bessee Blunts, roflmao. (I know Don, it ain’t funny when it’s your ox being gored.)

OBSERVATIONS ON THE GREAT HUNKERING (4)
“One welcome byproduct of the COVID 19 crisis is that we are getting some blessed relief from the ministrations of St. Greta of Thunberg, which rather puts things in perspective: How can we possibly be navigating this crisis without the advice and counsel of Time magazine’s most recent Person of the Year? It’s almost as though when something serious comes along, as opposed to the climate change whim-wham, adults recognize that listening to a teenager is stupid.”

"It is the latest tranche of newbies who have had their ‘gun epiphanies’ by the tens (hundreds?) of thousands. The feds confirm this through the surge in background checks, and the dealers confirm it by reporting that these desperate buyers will take any available gun with any kind of ammo that fits."
"....desperate buyers will take any available gun with any kind of ammo that fits".
That's just sad! Poor bastages walking out with a .380 Bersa rat gun! That said.....I think gun control is a dead letter for the foreseeable future!

"....desperate buyers will take any available gun with any kind of ammo that fits".
Sad but true. Heard a story of a woman in the buying panic bought a used gun in Florida or there abouts.. What she bought is a hand held grenade launcher. Not literally, but call a spade a spade. She doesn’t need that kind of firepower. Fortunately most most dealers are ethical and would have not sold her that gun which was wrong for her needs. A smaller sidearm would have been just fine. Haste makes waste.

Think Fish maybe correct. Kinda hard telling from here what her needs actually are. In fact, darn near impossible with all this social distancing going on.
Wonder how this will affect Common Core? Children gathering together to group solve a problem. Seems like not keeping a safe distance from others. Asking for a friend.
Gotta feel sorry for all those sudden homeschool moms out there. Time with the kids ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Makes for a stressful day and has lead many a fine righteous mother to consume mass quantities of wine.

Re: Homeschooling in the Age of the Plague.
You know, suppose you already homeschool your weird named kids. Suppose you live in the boonies and are used to waiting in the library or library parking lot while your weird named kids are doing their homework.
Suppose you live in town and your weird named kids are home for weeks and are driving you crazy. So, how about a walk to the park for a nice family time and enjoy some fresh air and get some exercise. Clean fun, just what the doctor ordered.
Surprise, surprise, surprise! All libraries are closed and now you can’t go into the parks! Which is why I never ask, “What else could go wrong?”
But, if I were inclined ask the forbidden question, I would say (hypothetically) that people are going to really start bugging out soon and start doing and saying all sorts of crazy shit. I point to Mary Wannbee’s previous comment this fine morning. I rest my case.

Speaking of taking advantage of a crisis, Soon after he offered public assurances that the government was ready to battle the coronavirus, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, sold off a significant percentage of his stocks, unloading between $582,029 and $1.56 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 29 separate transactions.
Way to go Richard, you beat the crash... probably because you had inside information. What about day traders like Bessie who used to constantly use the Dow as the only indicator of Trump's success? How is your portfolio doing there Bessie?
