Swine flu H1N1 Apr09-Jan10. 57M Americans infected, 257K hospitalized, 11,690 died. Does anyone remember any full court press on Obama by the media and the Repubs as today we witness dished out hourly by the Dems and their lamestream in their vilification of Trump? (H/T to reader.)
Russia impacted the 2016 election. Those lyrics of our leftwing loonies still rings out loud and clear across the land. And since that chorus started, tens of millions have been spent in the attempt to find any evidence, all to no avail. Admittedly, our Left is not all that good with the finer points of English as they continue to confuse ‘attempt’ and ‘impact’, or is it really one from their repertoire of Big Lies broadcast daily? That's called trolling for the dummies.
Coronavirus info link for Nevada County – NC Health and Human Services. The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital has announced a new testing program; see 17mar20 update here.
[18mar20 update] Epidemic model used by policy makers revealed, and also news of a stop-gap medicine to prevent and fight Covid19. See the 18mar20 update to 'Testing, testing, ...' here.
Correlation of the nation's blue concentrations with the incidence of Covid19 was pointed out in a reader's correspondence. Apparently no one in the media has yet to make the connection. (more here)
Lots of people buying guns and ammo. The Left should recognize that these are not the nation’s gun owners who have already laid in their stash of Second Amendment armaments. It is the latest tranche of newbies who have had their ‘gun epiphanies’ by the tens (hundreds?) of thousands. The feds confirm this through the surge in background checks, and the dealers confirm it by reporting that these desperate buyers will take any available gun with any kind of ammo that fits. Those of us who have owned guns for years would never even consider doing that for more reasons that we simply don’t have to.
All the Dems grousing about Trump’s “failure to handle the pandemic” are simply full of horseshit (aka bull pucky). No one dares to compare America’s response with the actual numbers of what the other Left-celebrated countries have done. Grab any metric that you have available. And the biggest farce is the so-implied massive testing that other countries have done. The challenge is to discover what marginal benefit to prophylactic or prescriptive policies has their testing provided that shows America is somehow behind the response curve. Nothing – but ‘testing’ is the only thing that the Dems have, with no better (or any) plans of their own, to try to get some traction against the Trump administration.
Ordering out from restaurants. Lots of people are buying into this alternative as an easy way to get good food without risking Covid19 infection. Not so advise the thinking medicos. You have no guarantee of what kind of food was used to prepare in what manner by personnel in what kind of pre-symptomatic condition within kitchens of unknown sanitary state that are frequented by numerous people whose outside contacts are also totally unknown. The infectious disease experts tell us to order out is still a crapshoot.
One thing is for sure, Ginsburg needs to be in a bubble.

re: 'Ordering out from restaurants' in the (no doubt) long forgotten OP.
You can imagine the destruction in that business. Not only will the restaurants that are on the verge financially shut down, but people will probably get used to not eating out. I can't say there's any point, the likelihood of getting a better meal commercially than I can make at home is darned small. I figure roughly a 4:1 mark up (before tip and drink) on using (probably) much better materials in my own kitchen. YMMV.
On another matter, I wonder how long until people suggest that we have the virus administered to us in a controlled fashion. It's certainly one way to flatten the curve since a lot of this is all about controlling hospital admissions.
Helluva thing having the world come to an end, at least for now, because some Chinese bio-warfare lab is selling bats out the back door or a meat vendor in Hunan is selling God-knows-what.
Bushmeat - It's whats for dinner.

re: 'Ordering out from restaurants' in the (no doubt) long forgotten OP
I would not mind ordering takeout on phone, pay on-line, get an ETA when ready, drive off and call the place and tell them I am sitting outside and describe my vehicle.
Think pizza to the Creekside. But, anything more than that, I say nope. No deliveries including no third party party food delivery services. Many are Uber drivers picking up some work, lol.
One fine fellow in San Fransisco is a germ/disease expert, a germaphobe to the max with four Doctorates, worked in Jungles, far away islands, and not so exotic places here will NOT accept any food delivered to his pad if it has been opened or the bag is not stapled shut or sealed. His point is you have these delivery guys that are driving the hot meal to ya and the greedy rubes open up the bag, the containers, and grab a handful into their mouths with their dirty fingers that who knows where they have been....and with the fellow’s background, you can only imagine the things he has seen and knows. Bad juju. Don’t get him started on the Chinese Live Food Market in China....they take live animals sitting out and you eat a snake or something ugly raw. They chop it up raw with blood splattering ...........kind of like Sushi but expanded to reptiles, mammals, fowl, and whatever crawls or slithers across the face or the earth and dark places. He wrote a book about it in the 70’s. Anyway...
Still a crapshoot. Yes, those here in God’s Country in Nevada County around Nevada City would never have any driver stick their dirty hands in your Chow Mein. Unimaginable. The fine working guy or gal is just too busy to eat, gotta adeliver the food while it’s hot. Smells so good! Up here, they are not prey to the frailties of common man. They have risen above the lower life form and defects of character. :)
Still a crapshoot. As Dr. Rebane mentioned, you don’t know what’s going on it the kitchen and prep and by whom? A cook not feeling well that day?

Out with the old.....but ‘in with the new’ not so very much. I reckon we are all on home detention now. Monitoring ankle bracelet not necessary. Besides, those who supply the bracelet ain’t open for fittings lately.

"Have you seen the Wayne Brown Jail report lately?"
Just looked. 5 folks run into the hoosegow from the 17th and up, one DUI and four 'F's. There's a case of the premium version of spit masks ordered up I bet.
No doubt there are less opportunities for DUIs right now, but I suppose the arrests for drunk in publics and general homeless mayhem have gone to zero. One tiny silver lining might be that the GVPD quits giving tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, a ridiculous concept and surprisingly high percentage of their stops.
Given the modern tendency to turn 'n burn misdemeanors with no incarceration, no charge, no (paid for) fine it could be that there's no difference in emptying the jail. Society is just going to have to adjust to the decriminalization of the vast majority of crimes or invent another way to dissuade people. Expect a surge in interest in home security. Of course, this isn't helped a bit by the religion of Diversity! since it has the tendency to lessen the sense of community.

Something that was eluded to yesterday on these boards. Trump is responsible for the deaths of old folks in their 80’s and anyone who doesn’t think so is responsible too. We are now held accountable. I'd say it's bigger than that. The real chain of logic goes like so:
. Grandma dies because of sketchy Chinese behavior and high degree of world travel
. Trump (obviously) killed Grandma
. Republicans killed Grandma
. You killed Grandma
While "Remember you Rebaneamancs, we are watching you and we will never forget. Never. We are always watching you." is obviously just the words of a silly and somewhat boastful middle-aged troll, there's some truth there. Apply enough pressure to crazy people and crazy happens.

re: ScottO@8:36AM
I think it's a good bit of branding by Trump to call this the 'Chinese Flu' although 'Wuhan Flu' more closely matches the way these things are usually named. Of course, you can expect the MSM to pick up the ball and run with the real issue in a time of emergency, Trump's name for the virus.
The thing is, the Chinese really are a threat. Steve Bannon, no fool he regardless of your agreement with him, has been banging that gong for several years. It's not such a good idea to have a highly self-interested ethnostate in charge of a large part (most?) of your manufacturing and owning a chunk of your debt that was traded for appliances and shoes. The fact that bushmeat is on the menu along with charming cultural icons like split-crotch pants for children just adds to the magic.
No need to be mad at them, we just need to disengage. Trump knows it, the Blue Mob doesn't.

15 days of national lockdown is doable. 2-3 months of severe disruption might be possible, if the ongoing infection numbers warrant it.
But 12-18 months of this is simply not going to happen. The mass noncompliance will start rising every month regardless of infection numbers.

"Perhaps one of the most glaring examples of the influence Beijing holds over the WHO is its success in blocking Taiwan’s access to the body, a position that could devastate the Taiwanese people as coronavirus continues to spread."

Re: Swine Flu Apr 09-Jan 10.
Let’s put things in perspective.
Influenza Update: 23,000 U.S. Deaths, More Children, 18-49 Year Olds Hospitalized than During 2009 H1N1 Pandemic
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report for the week ending March 14, with the total deaths this season at 23,000 and the highest number of children and people age 18-49 requiring hospitalization since the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.”
“The influenza-associated pediatric deaths occurring during the 2019-20 season were reported this week. The total pediatric deaths for the season is 149
Other findings in the report include:
Pneumonia and influenza mortality levels have been low, but 149 influenza-associated deaths in children have been reported so far this season. This number is higher than recorded at the same time in every season since reporting began in 2004-05, except for the 2009 pandemic.
CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 38 million flu illnesses, 390,000 hospitalizations and 23,000 deaths from flu.
Nationally, the percent of specimens testing positive for influenza at clinical laboratories continued to decrease while ILI activity increased for the second week in a row after declining for three weeks. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, more people may be seeking care for respiratory illness than usual at this time.
Nationally, influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses are now the most commonly reported influenza viruses this season. Previously, influenza B/Victoria viruses predominated nationally.
A total of 556 additional viruses (211 A(H1N1)pdm09, 32 A(H3N2), and 313 B) collected in Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, and Wisconsin were analyzed for resistance to neuraminidase inhibitors by pyrosequencing assay.”

Time to stand on our own two feet -
We should never be reliant on a foreign country for the means of our own survival. I think we’ve learned a lot. This crisis has underscored just how critical it is to have strong borders and a robust manufacturing sector. For three years, we’ve embarked on a great national project to secure our immigration system and bring back our manufacturing jobs. We’ve brought back many jobs, record numbers of jobs, and this really shows, this experience shows how important borders are. Without borders, you don’t have a nation.
Trump said his agenda to fighting the coronavirus and lifting the United States out of a state of globalist dependency includes manufacturing pharmaceuticals and essential supplies and equipment in America, made by American workers.
“Our goal for the future must be to have American medicine for American patients, American supplies for American hospitals, and American equipment for our great American heroes,” Trump said. “Now both parties must unite to ensure America is truly an independent nation in every sense of the word.”
