George Rebane
The videod murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police gave rise to justified public protests that quickly turned into destructive and violent riots which have little to do with the death of Mr Floyd, and instead have again revealed that we Americans are no longer ‘one people’ who can be called to ‘come together’.
Law enforcement agencies of all stripes provide daily demonstrations that they are an institution unto themselves, there to overwhelmingly look after their own interests and provide little or no security for those who pay them to preserve society and civilization. As clearly admitted by the Minneapolis police chief who publicly stated the reason his officers are standing back, standing down, and hightailing it from rioters is that he does not want to put them in harm’s way in situations that could turn dangerous. Think about that. What if firemen would only fight unrisky fires? What if the FBI adopted a similar policy, no field operations in which their agents were put at risk? What if the Secret Service would protect the President only to the extent that it would not be dangerous to them? What if our military didn’t want to commit troops into situations in which casualties would result?
So the police et al, those who do attend the riots now taking place in cities across the land, simply gather in solid self-defensive phalanxes to watch the rioting mob loot and burn. Over the lamestream media we are informed in an ongoing stream of commentary that these are not riots (a word absent in lamestream reports) led by criminal thugs, but simply justified “protests” attended by “protesters”. The rest of us are told by our politicians that any criminality that is evident is justified, and that we must simply let it play out. Actually, its more than that as FN’s Tucker Carlson explained in a landmark monologue last night – ‘Our leaders have sided with the agents of chaos – we're told crimes of the mob are our fault’.
Local business owners who witness their life’s work and savings go up in flames are seen pleading with the mob to no avail. Some are again taking up arms to defend their lives and livelihoods, and most cynically, the police are arresting those who dare shoot (at) rioters inside their premises in acts of arson and looting.
No doubt one can draw a connection between the lengthy pandemic lockdowns and the number of urban dwellers eager to get out of their houses and small apartments to protest undeniable injustices at the hands of law enforcement and our entire ‘justice system’. But in doing so, they do underline that we are not one people as former DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile asserts in her ‘We are one people’. The rioters are not people who built this country, as they claim, and are therefore entitled to ‘burn it down’. These are people who have their very own and distinct social contract with the institutions of our government – contrary to their protestations, they have rights and privileges, demonstrated daily, that people like me and mine wouldn’t dream of having in a civilized society.
Here’s an interesting question – what would the police do if law abiding folks of all colors showed up armed in downtowns to protect and defend the properties and property owners against the rioting mobs?
And here’s an even more interesting question – what would local governments and law enforcement agencies do if the streets were filled with peaceful protesters of all colors who looked like you and me?
And finally – what if all those law-abiding peaceful protesters against LE injustice showed up also demonstrating why Americans are unique with their constitutional 2A rights?
[update] A reader sent me a link to a Powerline article on the Twin Cities riots. It appears that both Democrat Mayors Jacob Frey and Melvin Carter are doing their best to dodge any and all responsibility for what's going down in their mismanaged metropolises, even to the anticipated desperate accusation that the riots are being instigated by out-of-state "white supremacists". How do self-respecting Democrats elect such misfits to office? (more here and here)
I'm sure there is a LIB or two here that will disagree with Trump.

Dr. Rebane.
Just noticed you have a new post ‘Riot Reflections’, so I will move my last Ruminations post here.
Brother Walt,
I actually watched the MN Governor’s presser last night. It was most enlightening. Went to sleep with a pod cast playing on the phone and woke up to catch his late night presser going on. Learned a lot. The thugs laughed at the curfew, nobody took it seriously and they were so outnumbered, the LE and National Guard had to withdraw for their own safety. Found this part interesting....to the max.
MINNEAPOLIS GOES BAGDHAD
“It is apparent from the overnight press conference that intelligence has revealed the presence of out of state terrorists making credible threats against critical infrastructure. Shots are being fired at Guard soldiers. On top of the economic devastation wrought by Governor Walz’s statewide shutdown orders, we now have incredible physical damage to businesses and buildings throughout the Twin Cities.
Governor Walz has been weighed in the balance and found wanting. We need a leader with the savvy and fortitude to win the war in which we are engaged.”
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/05/minneapolis-goes-bagdhad.php
Just as I expected. The radicals and hate America crowd is so organized they can be ready to role anywhere on a short notice. Remember Trump’s temporary 6 month “Muslim Ban” for new vetting policies to be crafted? Hell, within 1-2 hours the Leftinistas had crowds with signs race to airports to demonstrate. Trump was just settling into the Oval Office.
Remember the Kavanaugh screechers? Handmaidens? They had “community organizers” from all 50 states there. And that lady who cornered Flake in the elevator to get him to delay the vote? Come to find out she has never been sexually assaulted in her life and gets paid six figures a year. They gave her a bunch of prestigious awards. Should have face her an Oscar.
Bottomline: Glen Beck was right in 2009. Their goal is to burn it down, overfill and bust the safety net, destroy the economy, and take the fighting to the streets. Then, out of the ashes, a new transformed ‘America’ arises. The Judeo-Christian Western Civilization tradition America haters are organized and out to destroy. Demolition Derby. The combination of events from COVID-19, Nancy’s budget, and the other current events just needed a spark to implement the Revolution. George Floyd provided the match, and the Leftinistas provided the gasoline. Now, flood the zone.

The simple answer is obvious -
“Unfortunately with the rioting that is occurring in many of our cities around the country, the voices of peaceful protests are being hijacked by violent radical elements. Groups of outside radical agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda,” Barr said in a press conference at the Department of Justice
“In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by anarchic and leftist extremist groups, far-left extremist groups using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom traveled outside the state to promote the violence,” Barr continued.

Frankly, I don't blame cops for standing down for as long as their rules of engagement tie their hands in the matter of self-protection. No one is afraid of cops who've been told to tolerate property crime and violence including arson and deadly thrown projectiles. Unpleasant consequences need to be restored to their rightful place as just desserts.
We need a return to the days when looters were simply shot, no questions asked, and the first step would be to authorize store owners to detain at gunpoint anyone attempting to loot during covering protests. If the detainee wishes to make an issue of it, either by offering resistance or running away, they can be lawfully be executed on the spot. In-store camera recordings recommended.
Likewise, law enforcement needs authorization to neutralize anyone wielding brick, knife, club or gun, neutralize to begin with billy clubs, followed by bullets. Recommend in the interest of racial justice that the first 100 corpses should be white antifa bastards who will be missed by no one, except Soros and his fellow satanic communists. Oh, and Paul and Mary.
Actually, there ought to be a standing bounty on these societal dregs, 24/7 in all seasons. Cops can take their names and publish them to help guide the bounty collectors.
If that doesn't stop it, then add the black alley apes to the mix.
Without their poisonous presence, most of the "free stuff" folks will be swiftly deterred. A few proper examples will go a long ways...
Otherwise, the cops face the same problems our troops did in Afghanistan and Iraq where the forces of evil are the first, last and only ones with access to violence. Simple self-defense for law enforcement demands an end to the current practices and the public should understand the need. Nothing else will work.

L 217pm - Points well made Larry. We await some of our liberal readers to weigh in on the proper tactics for police and business owners when confronted with burning and looting thugs. I'm not holding my breath though; the left eschews the discussion of such practical matters, especially as it will reveal their dysfunctional social policies for all to see. Better to send in crickets, or come and demonstrate how to pirouette on the point without ever touching it.

I'm with L on this one.
Posted by: Walt | 30 May 2020 at 03:41 PM
Walt 340pm - Yes, that's what I am referring to, these thugs have rights that we law-abiders don't have. That POS had the right to loot and burn, and according to our corrupt laws and LE agencies, the property owner's only legal alternative was to flee to a safe place and watch his business being destroyed. This now is the country our Left is well on its way to fundamentally transforming.
Posted by: George Rebane | 30 May 2020 at 03:59 PM
The police and Natl Guard know what's expected in these situations.
Containment.
The good mayor's blather about sacrificing buildings instead of lives would change PDQ if the rioters headed for his neighborhood.
When it gets this bad, a line is drawn around an area that is quickly written off and the authorities 'hope' the violence will eventually settle down without spreading to where the overlords live.
The whole thing is tragic start to finish.

Sorry but its the locals -
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Saturday that officials think "white supremacists" and "out-of-state instigators" could be behind the protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death, but a report showed that "about 86 percent" of arrests so far are mostly of in-state residents.

Two thoughts.
1) If something like what is going on in Minneapolis happened in Sacramento or Roseville, the common man and woman is on their own. Your business is burning? Sorry, firefighters are swamped, can’t get there. Some thugs are kicking in your front door? Busting out your windows and coming in? Cops overwhelmed, no can make it to your home tonight 911 tells you. Sorry taxpayer, you are on your own to defend your family and your abode. Try to get out of there now out the back and don’t forget the kids huddled on the bathroom floor. No can help ya. Oh yeah, the mayor and Governor want you to turn in your guns.
2). If I recall correctly, we just suffered through a two day marathon session here about the horrible things the Cowboy said. “The Right is full of extremists and condone violence!” It is unconscionable that Idiot Trump did not denounce them! They promote violence! They talk about murder...because they promote MURDER of Democrats! Conservatives are violent extremist people, bitter folks clinging to their guns and Bibles. We need to take their guns away, pronto. There needs to be an investigation and the Cowboys should be convicted of breaking some law about inciting violence blah, blah, blah and blah for two straight days.r
Hmmm. Now that there is real violence and real actions inciting real violence where the real rubber meets the real road, not a single Lefty has bothered to chime in on this thread.
And just for good measure, Mary Wannabee spent some time a few days ago blasting the Michigan anti-lockdown protests as PROOF how threatening and violent the Righties really are. If memory serves me correctly, the Michigan protests where passionate at times, yet peaceful....as they were exercising every citizen’s right to peaceful assembly. Odd, Ms. Wannabee must have taken a long siesta today.

Gregory @ 8:39 pm
True, very true. Due process, rule of law. Since yesterday (or before) I have been concerned that with all these politicians jumping before the microphones and spouting unhelpful screeds that the jury pool has been tainted and the defendant has been pre-judged already. Any good defense lawyer would start with that and ask for a dismissal. Roll tape of the Talking Heads slamming the defendant. Case won’t get dismissed, but the process has already been contaminated...or could be contaminated by now. Definitely qualifies for a not so quick trial to protect the defendant’s rights. People want him convicted now.
Well, back to the riots.

Re MaryW 810am - asshole behavior by the cops indeed. But what the Marys among us don’t understand is how such police behavior arises. It comes from a command/control constabulary that is trained and conditioned by a government that sanctions the structure of society into those with guns in control and those helpless (w/o guns) to be controlled. The state is the arbiter of all things and can give/take from citizens as it wills under the moral guise of providing for the ‘common good’ - there is no appeal save riot and revolution. This is the indelible stamp of collectivist governance.

Re: update, Powerline blog: close to the stink
It’s no secret I like reading Powerlineblog.com. With the current unrest going on in Minneapolis, Powerline is a good source for MN news since the blogger live in Minnesota and knows the local politicians, sources, turf and have been writing about local issues from Ilhan Omar to whatever for years. With that said, another Powerline article.
WALZ CALLS
‘I am slaphappy from listening to Walz’s torrent of verbiage at these press conferences. As far I can tell, however, Walz’s latest moves are all to the good. Consistent with my own observations, Governor Walz’s remarks called out the object of the operations as domestic terrorists. He and others sought to identify them with “white supremacists” who, to my knowledge, have yet to be sighted — see Jon Justice’s tweet above — but the enhancement of the forces of law enforcement in support of last night’s operations represents a late step in the right direction.
Stephen Montemayor reports in the Star Tribune: “A law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigations of outside agitators acknowledged that people are coming in from out of state to cause problems. But he said he has yet to see any credible evidence linking that behavior to white supremacists.” Montemayor quoted his law enforcement source” “It’s a red herring.” It’a “a red herring” deployed by Governor Walz along with the National Guard soldiers.
UPDATE: I copied and pasted the quotes from Montemayor’s article abvoe. They have now been excised from the article without any note or explanation.”

BT 12:56 - Thanks - I assume there are a lot of those stories, but it's nice to see some documented.
George 11:53 - They are already disobeying orders. First they're just on the porch and like little kids pretty soon they're on the street.
Mostly it's a matter of 'they were the only ones out in view'.
I've been harassed by police for nothing for the same reason.
It's petty, but I've found it best to just to keep my mouth shut and put up with it. If that's the worst thing L.E. ever did, you really have no problem at all. I well remember Sac County Sheriff 'Big John' Mysterly in the 60's. He once announced that 'hippies' from SF were 'invading' Sacramento and he was gonna run 'em out of town. He was a bigoted idiot and he let his 'boys' run roughshod over folks' civil liberties back then. Isn't he cute?
https://soundcloud.com/ed-fletcher/sheriff-big-john-misterly
I say pick your battles carefully. Getting fussy over some moron that doesn't have the brains to just step inside and then step back out a few seconds later will bog you down in manure for decades.
Concentrate on the big picture items like 'no-knock' warrants. I can't believe any judge in his or her right mind would issue such a thing. It has (and will) lead to all sorts of deadly and tragic mistakes.
Posted by: Scott O | 31 May 2020 at 01:38 PM
ScottO 138pm - So there was no apparent legal basis for the police to order people off their own front porch. If that's correct, then from my perch, complying and being sanguine about such official hubris is a good harbinger for upgrading to the 'knee on the neck' tactic that started this whole mess. Therefore, this might be just the right battle to pick and hill to defend.

OMG, where did Obama find these wingnuts? Unbelievable. Good writing by Re lately
‘Susan Rice makes claim Russians could be behind violent George Floyd demonstrations’
“Former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice bizarrely suggested in a televised interview Sunday that the Russians could be behind the violent nationwide demonstrations following the in-custody death of George Floyd, although she offered no evidence for the incendiary claim.
Rice's made the claim after top Democrats insisted for years that the White House had conspired with Russia, although Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence to support any conspiracy with Russia by any U.S. actor to influence the 2016 election. Her remarks also came amid efforts by Democrats to pin the blame on outside white supremacist agitators, even though data suggests the vast majority of arrested protesters in recent days are local.
"To designate Antifa a terrorist organization, fine, but let's also focus on the right-wing terrorist organizations," Rice told CNN's Wolf Blitzer, referring to President Trump's decision earlier in the day to brand the left-wing militant group as a terrorist organization. "The white supremacists that he's called, in the past, very fine people.".....
"I would not be surprised to learn that they have fomented some of these extremists on both sides using social media," Rice said. "I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they are funding it in some way, shape, or form."

No Susan, it is not the Russians or Russian bots on social media. It is the Alinsky, the Van Jones plan, and the Obama playbook, you idiot. And chances are Slap Happy, the KVMR news director, believes you.

Ah the limousine socialist antifa fan boy until ………….
A former ESPN writer is being called a hypocrite for urging rioters to burn down the inner city, then chastising them when they attacked his neighborhood.
On Thursday, the former ESPN basketball reporter, Chris Palmer, was seen gleefully posting about the confrontations occurring in Minneapolis by rioters claiming to be infuriated by the police-involved death of George Floyd. At one point, Palmer posted a tweet featuring a burning building that he captioned, “Burn that sh*t down. Burn it all down.”
But just over two days later, early on Sunday morning, Palmer posted a tweet excoriating the rioters for attacking a “gated community” near where he lived.
“They just attacked our sister community down the street,” Palmer wrote just after midnight on Sunday. “It’s a gated community and they tried to climb the gates. They had to beat them back. Then destroyed a Starbucks and are now in front of my building.”
Then came the hypocrisy: “Get these animals TF out of my neighborhood. Go back to where you live.”

Good guy with a gun stops 2 with stolen cop AR's, way to go dude! -
Rioters in Seattle reportedly had stolen two loaded AR-15s out of a smashed Seattle Police Department cruiser lit on fire earlier in the evening. Someone started firing one weapon into vehicles, sending crowds of protesters running from the scene.
That's when the security guard, a former Special Forces member with Q13 Fox Reporter Brandi Kruse at the scene, got the news crew to safety before pulling his own handgun on the rioter, yanking the AR-15 out of his hand and disarming the weapon.
The guard returned to the crew, who then called 911, but, while waiting for police to arrive, crowds could be heard starting to panic once again. Realizing a second man was armed with another AR-15, the security guard sprung into action again.
The second man, wearing a hoodie and a blue bandana over his face to conceal his identity, could be seen on live broadcast footage carrying an AR-15 before the security guard entered the frame, who pointed his own gun at the man and snatched the rifle.

George 1:58 - "So there was no apparent legal basis for the police to order people off their own front porch. If that's correct,..."
And there's the difference.
I was assuming it was a legal order.
If not and he was being a jerk, then that would change my opinion of his actions. I think there was a lot more to that particular incident than what was shown. I have a hard time believing they were just wandering down some random peaceful neighborhood.

Well, how about doing something novel and blame the rioters.
‘Trump, White Supremacists And Russia: Here’s Who Democrats Have Blamed For Riots So Far“
“David Reaboi laid out the Democrats’ alleged playbook even as it was still being implemented, saying, “I’m living for the moment between Democrat talking points, when riots are both (a) totally righteous and justified, and (b) the dastardly work of Trump, Russians, white nationalists, etc.”

“My quick search for statements by Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer condemning the violence, rioting, looting, and arson finds nothing. As best I can tell, not a word. Their silence is shockingly irresponsible. Joe Biden's staff is donating to a group that funds the release of rioters. Unbelievable.”

I wish Susan Rice would make-up her full of mush mind. This morning she said the burning of American cities was because of the Russians Messing with us. Later she said it is because a Trump was mean to that multi-millionaire Colin K, a Nike salesperson. (Like Al Bundy, Colin sells shoes and watches football on Sundays.)

Riot reflections: what rebuilding can’t replace.
‘Minneapolis Rioters Burned One Of America’s Most Beloved Independent Bookstores To The Ground’
“The political moral to draw is obvious and banal. But when a cultural institution like a good bookstore is burned, the damage goes beyond the physical. It is not really possible to merely clean up and rebuild, as you might a Target or a police station. The bustle of the street, the fabric of the city itself, is damaged. The destruction of a bookstore hurts people’s souls, even if they don’t realize this.
“A city cannot be a work of art,” Jane Jacobs writes in her seminal book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities.” By this she means that a city is not like a statue. It is an unplanned web, a crazy network of individuals doing productive, artistic, crazy, and interesting things, all at once. It pulsates with life and change in some areas, accretes tradition or staleness, or both, in others. It’s never the same.
The hustle and bustle of the street, the shops and restaurants and churches and halfway houses and all the rest engender this hustle and bustle. When you burn such places down (or, as was Jacobs’ concern, plough them under with ill-conceived top-down urban projects), you are not clearing for renewal. You are destroying the very possibility for growth and change in a community. You are killing hope.
“The economic value of new buildings in replaceable in cities,” Jacobs writes. “But the economic value of old buildings is irreplaceable at will. It is created by time. This economic requisite for diversity is a requisite that vital city neighborhoods can only inherit, and then sustain over the years.”
Cities stripped of places like Uncle Hugo’s become pits of despair, barbarism, and danger because the businesses are gone and buildings are burned. Don Blyly may rebuild with our help.
But no amount of money or good wishes after the fact can renew a city that has stood by and allowed its own heart to be ripped out. Or worse, that rips out its own heart and calls it justice.“

Detriot never recover from their riots in 1967. In 1960, Detroit was the 4th largest city in the US. Now the city doesn’t rank in the top 20. The city ain’t the sameaftet all these years.. The Ferguson riots were more recent (2014) and the city has not recovered. Parts where riots broke out are still a wasteland. Baltimore? DC? Same. A city is its energy, all the things going on, all the various actives happening at the same time.
Imagine, if you will, if the Historical District of Nevada City was burned down, or even if just one side of Broad Street. How do you replace those buildings, those memories, the vibe? You don’t because you can’t.

Well, maybe the Blue State Governors were right to keep their citizens under lock-down until it is safe to go outside. They eased some of the police state shelter-in- place orders and look what happened. Best to keep the Dems under home detention for another year.
If nothing else, the looting, violence, rioting and lawlessness has blown COVID-19 news off the front page, thank goodness. Just in time. I was getting bored with the Wuhan Virus anyway. What have you done for me lately?
Judging by the videos coming from the streets of America, the anarchists have given social distancing the big middle finger. Radicals and anarchists are that way.
The pics of the graffiti left behind is quite informative. Maybe someone will put together a nice big book of the graffiti glossy pictures so I can put it on the coffee table as part of the interior design. Or, maybe not. A book of pictures of the F Bomb on every page may not be suitable for decent good folk, not to mention redundantly boring.

Oh my. Sparks in Reno-Sparks. Getting closer to Truckee.
Tensions run high in Downtown Reno as National Guard is called to assist with protests
"RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Washoe County, including the cities of Reno and Sparks, has issued a curfew for the city until 7 a.m. after what started as a peaceful protest to demand justice for George Floyd, quickly turned violent downtown."
https://mynews4.com/news/local/protest-planned-in-reno-to-demand-justice-for-george-floyd
Hmmm. Thoughts:
-Maybe if they bust up enough things and loot enough stuff, there will be an end to racism!
-Are they 'protesting' for George Flyod or for George Soros?
-Why are all these peaceful protests "quickly turned violent"?
Why did they torch an afforable living development in MN? Thats not who we are, its who they are.
Thats taking NIMBY to the extreme. I am not sure George Flyod would approve, but bullionaire George Soros does.
