In the 1930s FDR’s big government nostrums kept the country in a depression so deep and enduring that it took the greatest war in history to bring us out of it (aided through Truman’s fortuitous rejection of the post-war return to FDR’s alphabet soup agencies) and reject communism.  What is it going to take this time in today's Democrat-promoted recession as their socialists/communists again marshal their forces in the streets and in the ballot boxes?

Portland PD has been told to leave the rioters alone. Federal police are protecting federal buildings...I've seen plenty of footage and basically they let them beat on the sides, shoot fireworks, start fires, until it gets to be a bit too much and then run everyone off a block or so. Now and again they appear to get a solid ID on a particularly bad rioter and arrest them away from the crowd.

The point appears to be to guard the 20% of people doing criminal things with 80% of folks screaming obscenities. When the cops finally respond, you melt into the crowd and hope like hell to catch the slightest police misstep on camera. Everyone knows the game.

Yes, these federal police wear uniforms. No, they don't have to read anyone their rights.

Neither Portland not Chicago where federal LE is now deployed sans name tags, badges, or even identification marks for their agencies, condone violence, they simply have a different method of dealing with it, which is a local decision and right. It is also inaccurate to say they have done nothing to stop the protests that have escalated to violence. The reality now is that it is the presence of federal LE that is escalating the violence and making local LE's job more difficult.

But that is OK, now that you are supporting anonymous jack booted federal thugs snatching people ff the streets...who know where it ends. Perhaps it ends with you?

I can't say I blame police for not putting on name tags when possible, given the current tendency for Biden voters to dox people, and show up at their house for a bit of mob party time. The Blue Mob can feed on wives and children as well as they can the folks they feel a 2 minute hate for.

Hmm. Since the riots started happening in Portland in late March, not a single day or night has gone by without riots, mayhem, smashing windows (public and private) busting up things and setting them on fire. Not to mention all the projectiles hurled at local police, and even ambushes of cops.

First, it was six straight weeks. Then 47, 49 days. Then 51 straight nights of looting and attacks (yes, attacks) on police and even innocent lawful bystanders...not to mention torching the Police Union Hall and attacking a couple of police precincts. Remember the movie Fort Bronx? Then, around Day 51 or 52, Homeland Security (Trump) stepped in with hardened Border Patrol or ICE agents and detained criminals. So, kindly explain to this thick headed one how Trump sending in the federales on day 51 or so escalate the riots that were happening on a daily basis for over 7 weeks? And during that period, did things get better in Portlandia (and the other city flying under the radar; Chicago) or have things gotten worse? Federales escalating violence? That’s a good one. It's a thing I wonder about, does he really believe the stuff he says?

So, on day 45 or so of continuous riots, the feds send 145+/- federal police, in their normal uniforms it turns out (largely Border Patrol) complete with badges...but minus last names...to protect four federal buildings. Basically they let the outside get set on fire, rocks thrown, windows broken to set fires, largish fireworks, lasers, usually until some decisions is made to clear the miscreants out. Tear gas and clear the block, go inside, arrest a few of the most heinous folks.

It's not an uncommon mode of thinking. Either it's Trumphate uber alles (ends justify the means doncha know) or perhaps simply the result of watching a handful of news programs that show the mommies out front during the day and some threatening pictures of guys in SWAT team gear with a few gas grenade launchers (or 'assault rifles' as they're known as I've seen on some twitter feeds).

The only way to get a flavor of the thing is to skip through some of the 6 hour video montages of the Portland festivities, but that would require a bit of work.

I'm afraid that some of our countrymen have lost the ability to think rationally.

...as a side note, it's interesting that the cops are having to go the route of Mexican cops in terms of identity protection, walling themselves up in strong points, only work in force.

Really, it's a pretty analogous situation to the situation there with the BLM/Antifa folks taking the place of drug cartels. They have influence in government, are happy to go to a policeman's house to kill his dog, are well funded, increasingly well organized, know how to treat traitors to the cause, a certain amount of popular support, know how to hide real intentions and methods.

There probably are lessons to be learned from the situation down there.

Carmen Best, Chief of Police sent out a letter to businesses, Seattle City Council and the community in light of potential protests that are thought to be staged this weekend. As part of the preparations she outlines, all precincts are being boarded up. A crew from Herzog Glass was busy adding plywood to all lower windows at the SW Precinct exterior on Friday. This is a purely precautionary measure and in response to what Chief Best characterizes as being denied the use of even non-lethal tools to "safely intercede to preserve property in the midst of a large violent crowd."

Her letter states:

Dear Business Owner and/or Resident:

Please know that the Seattle Police Department is committed to addressing life safety incidents and calls for service, and responding to ongoing demonstrations and unrest in the city.

Please also know that the City Council Ordinance 119805 Crowd Control Tool goes into effect this weekend on Sunday, July 26, 2020. This ordinance bans Seattle Police officers the use of less lethal tools, including pepper spray that is commonly used to disperse crowds that have turned violent. Simply put, the legislation gives officers NO ability to safely intercede to preserve property in the midst of a large, violent crowd.

It is important to bring to your attention that yesterday, I sent the City Council a letter ensuring them that as the Chief of Police, I have done my due diligence of informing them numerous times of the foreseeable impact of this ordinance on upcoming events. The letter is attached for your reference.

For these reasons, Seattle Police will have an adjusted deployment in response to any demonstrations this weekend – as I will never ask our officers to risk their personal safety to protect property without the tools to do so in a safe way.
