George Rebane
Countering imported BLM demonstrators. Given that BLM has shown its true colors as a political ‘black lives don’t matter’ movement created to transform the country into a socialist state, and demonstrating their violent methods in other towns and cities, I suppose it’s not surprising that people in Nevada County are turning out to defend home and hearth from imported 'protesters', no matter how many like-minded local leftists join them.
‘Mayhem Continues, Protest Narrative Crumbles’ The lamestream media has done it damnest to foist the Big Lie that the country’s riots, burnings, shootings, lootings, … are just “peaceful protests” of people seeking “social justice” in the wake of George Floyd’s death. None of them admit to the existential evidence generated nightly across the land, and none of them admit to the greater political purpose of a socialist revolution to which the various factions of rioters readily admit and publish. And this selective blindness is dutifully aped by our local leftwing loonies as demonstrated in these pages and elsewhere. (more here)
‘Fighting Back Against the Woke Corporation’ The country’s mega-corporatists are doing their best to sell rope to our socialist cum communist revolutionaries in Congress and the streets. Today their size is such that “Corporate power can enforce cultural conformity—through marketing, through lobbying, through firing.” Is this not the perfect time for some unwoke, say retailer like Walmart, to make the big move against the market dominance of Amazon? Just advertise that you are not woke and that you are a capitalist corporation which makes its profits by putting the interests of its customers (not the list of “stakeholders”) first. For millions of us it will then quickly become the go-to place for online shopping as it builds up its SKU inventory. (more here)
[Update] The NC BOS defeated the most recent version of the draconian covid ‘urgency ordinance’ at the end of a very lengthy meeting late this afternoon. The best the proponents could do was to reduce – yes, reduce – the fines for violating the mask, gathering, and dining-in provisions to $500, $2,500, and $5,000 for the first three offenses. The heroes of the session were Supervisors Ed Scofield and Susan Hoek with their no votes. If covid ever becomes an ‘urgent matter’ in Nevada County, the BOS can always revisit such an ordinance. In the interval, let’s respect the common sense of our residents who are well aware of the pandemic’s dangers.
[12aug20 update] 'Black' is a categorical political identity. Kamala is advertised by the lamestream as being ‘black’. Her ancestry is way more complex than that, and returns us to the question of how much Negroid blood qualifies one as black or African-American. (more here) In legal terms she’s classified as black if that’s how she wants it. But what fraction of Negroid ancestry should our society demand before accepting such a politically beneficial de juris racial classification? (more here) We answered that question for Elizabeth Warren’s Indian ancestry. Today the answer is ‘whatever works’.
AP News suckers our local Union again. AP (All Propaganda) is an unabashedly leftwing fake news outfit that still manages to bamboozle the news editors of most of the country’s newspapers. The latest piece – ‘Virus surge make the United States weak link in global economic recovery’ - that appears in the 12aug20 Union is utter editorial bullshit passed off as news copy. At best it should appear on the newspapers’ op-ed pages. But the fact that it passes off as news goes a long way to explain why today’s Americans have such a low opinion of journalists and journalism. Did any of them ever take a critical thinking course in journalism school? (The article on Union’s page A6 could not be found on the AP site, nor on the Union’s website. It looks like a piece of fluff propaganda passed down to small town newspapers that need to fill some real estate in their print editions, and are not that alert or savvy about what qualifies as real news. You can read it if you look in the print edition on their website – try here.)
[13aug20 update] President Trump is finally putting some balance into his C19 ‘science team’ with the invitation to a couple of physician scientists who are part of the cohort of thousands of such professionals that has a markedly different take on what our proper response policies should be for this highly politicized pandemic. Perhaps there now will be some meaningful backroom discussions between Fauci et al and the newcomers. (more here and here. H/T to reader.)
What I see taking form here (as well as in China) is not communism on the Soviet or Cuban or Venezuelan model, but the modern left's biggest bugaboo. Yes, friends, we are watching the return of the good old fashioned alliance of elite governance and compliant capitalists aka Fascism. It resembles the NSDAP program in many particulars.
For what it's worth, Fascism is probably a little 'better' than communism in that it is more likely to be economically viable. For the tenants, it still resembles an ant farm, albeit one where mandatory vacations are available...

re Gregory 10:26 under the Sandbox posting -
"Floyd, when he was on his feet, was asked by an officer if he had taken anything and he clearly responded no."
I found this in an article written by Jim Goad. Some of it supposedly from the transcript. I'll wait until trial before I vouch for it:
"Due to Floyd’s bizarre behavior, police suspected he was on PCP.
Kueng: You got foam around your mouth, too?
Floyd: Yes, I was just hooping earlier.
“Hooping” refers to the act of inserting something into your rectum, either to hide as contraband or as a way to administer drugs. Since an autopsy concluded that the level of fentanyl in Floyd’s blood was higher than the average level of fentanyl in overdose victims, it’s reasonable to suggest that’s what he meant by “hooping.” It doesn’t make sense that one would start foaming at the mouth by inserting a small pistol in your rectum, but then again, I wouldn’t know because I’ve never tried it."
The officers had called the ambulance long before he was dead. If George Floyd had co-operated, he might be alive - but there are so many things he did wrong that it's hard to speculate.

Can you provide documentation as to the number of BLM protestors on Sunday were "imported" and the group that organized their transport and handled communications.
Posted by: paul emery | 11 August 2020 at 11:07 AM
SO 1040am
Silly me, I thought "hooping" was a reference to basketball. In fact, thinking some more, I still think it was a basketball reference.
Virtually all of the events held out by BLM as needing justice before they'll allow peace would have been avoided by the 'victim' had they just decided not to fight the authority telling them to stop the scat they're doing.
One big exception... the tragic slaying of Breonna Taylor by cops executing a "No-knock" warrant. No Knock warrants are evil. The mayor of Louisville has banned them in his city now, and their Senator Rand Paul has introduced a bill to do the same in any federal jurisdiction or by any police department that accepts federal money.
This has been an evil for a long time... and even filthy rich heirs to a fortune made in toilet paper have been killed in no-knock raids.

This is part of the statement by Nevada City Police Chief Chad Ellis concerning the Sunday incident in Nevada City:
"Over the course of the day, I have had the opportunity to review several different video clips of the conflict provided to me by the community. I was both appalled and disappointed by the behavior of the counter-protesters.
The counter-protesters waived the thin blue line flag as a show of support for the police, however the actions and behavior did nothing more than put the community in danger. It appeared they were using the flag to show unity and connection with the police which was a falsehood.
The Nevada City Police Department had 3 officers on duty at the time of the protest. Given the extremely volatile situation the officers attempted to manage the crowd and prevent any additional escalated violence. During the incident officers were instructing individuals to contact the police and file reports at a later time as they were inundated with the situation at hand.
The aggressive behavior by the counter-protesters towards the Black Lives Matter protesters which comprised of many women and children will absolutely not be tolerated. I also met with a Nevada City Council member today who was present at the incident and assaulted by the hostile counter-protesters."

Gregory 11:15 - 'hooping' is a new one to me as well, before I read the article.
And yes - I've complained about no-knocks as a process that was bound from the beginning to cause needless deaths. I can't believe they're still using them.
If Breonna Taylor had been white, you wouldn't even have heard her name. The leftys should explain why they only protest against police misconduct when the victim is non-white.
Remember - "justice for everyone or it's justice for no one."
All lives matter.

PaulE 111pm - Do you think it's time to move such a 'national dialogue' about the country's future off the streets, and into a calmer environment with a table and chairs?
Posted by: George Rebane | 11 August 2020 at 01:27 PM
So if the BLM is violent everywhere else in America and loots and burns and kills police and residents, Mr. Ellis is surprised that locals might feel the need to be aggressive to defend the place? Sorry, that does no wash and appears to be an apology for the BLM thugs. Sort of reminds me of a person in the zoo goading the tigers and is surprised when it jumped the fence and ate him. Don't mess with the tigers. Lastly, maybe the aggressive locals kept the thugs from burning down Nevada City? How would he react to that? As we have seen elsewhere women, white women Millenials, have been the perps of violence.

Sure. This is a time of social unrest that needs wise and careful leadership to resolve in a peaceful and productive manner. Do you think Trump is up to the task as our President?
Posted by: paul emery | 11 August 2020 at 01:58 PM
Here come the brownshirts.....Yes "L", it is fascism but it is not coming from the left as you have been led to believe by the wealthy elite behind the whole thing. The thugs were wearing "trump" regalia not
Biden or Obama or anything resembling or intimating left leaning ideology.
George 1:27 --I think people on both sides of the street are tired of 'table and chair' discussions that go nowhere. That is why they are out in the streets in the first place. The average American, I bet, has more in common with those they perceive as being on the opposite side of the street. The children of spoiled children greed mongers and their hired politicians and their media pundit goons seek to divide not unite... and so far have been very successful as current events suggest. The focus needs to change from differences to similarities in any discussion of a way out of this mess. "Getting to Yes" and Collaborative Problem solving approaches are better than bullying.

Paul 1:58 - "This is a time of social unrest that needs wise and careful leadership to resolve in a peaceful and productive manner."
'Social unrest' is actually left-wing violence condoned by the Dems. It is a poorly disguised ruse to further the 'get rid of Trump' agenda. One of the founders of BLM actually stated that in an interview.
There are surely lots of side issues and there's always a gaggle of anarchists primed for trouble, but really - this is mostly just TDS. It will continue as long as Trump is in office.

Nothing but empty platitudes.

My theory is that their chief bankroller, good old George Soros, fell truly in love with his first employers, the Nazis of Budapest where he did faithfully serve their interests. Apparently he was much impressed with their efficiency and brought his admiration with him when he somehow was admitted to the US instead of serving a term for collaboration with the Hitler crowd. Funny how that happened...

It just gets in the way. Put the moistened finger in the wind and go with it. It turns out Rice pissed off too many of the wrong people. Including (mostly) Clinton.

I don't support the former Officer Chauvin... at best, he's guilty of depraved indifferencebut not murder in the 2nd. But if they go for murder 2, they may end up with nothing and then the BLM monster will really be mad.
But the whole excuse for the recent BLM excess is a lie. Floyd was dying from a fentanyl overdose from before the cops showed up.
I realize that is completely outside the realm of possibility by todays friscoid Democratic Party, but those are the facts. Now, think back to all the other times I hit you with an opinion that you hadn't even considered... was I right or was I wrong. Hmmm?

"Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt has announced a new policy that will limit the types of charges pressed against protesters in Portland.
Schmidt announced at a Tuesday press conference that he is only pressing charges against protesters arrested for assault, theft, or property damage. That means he'll be dropping lesser charges that the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) often arrests protesters for, such as rioting, disorderly conduct, and "interfering with a peace officer"—a catch-all term for not following orders or bothering a cop. The policy will apply to all protest charges dating back to May 29, when the protests began."

How group think destroyed generations of free thought -
A new study that was published Harvard lecturer Pippa Norris claims that leftist professors are unlikely to understand the experience of their conservative colleagues. According to Norris, leftist professors are more likely to believe that “there has been little or no change in respect for open academic debate and pressures to be politically correct.” In 2018, a separate study revealed that nearly 80 percent of academic departments at top universities are exclusively staffed by Democratic faculty members.
According to a report by Campus Reform, a new study out of Harvard University suggests that leftist professors are unlikely to appreciate the significance of the ideological imbalance on American college campuses. In fact, many of the professors deny that universities around the country are facing a free speech crisis.
Breitbart News reported in May 2018 that nearly 80 percent of academic departments at America’s top colleges have zero Republican professors. The study analyzed the political leanings of over 8,000 tenure-track professors at America’s top 51 colleges.

Just sayin' - I don't actually know, but I've seen it happen.
He only has so much budget for the year and prosecutions cost money.
I'm not happy either.
The power to prosecute can be the power to destroy and the wholesale failure to prosecute can cause the public to lose faith in the system.
If he's an elected official, the public can vote their interests.
What will end up happening is the quality of their police will diminish to nothing more than ex-droogies looking for a bit of the old ultra-violence or a bunch of useless donut dunkers at the coffee shop.

REPORT: Chicago Prosecutor Dismissed Thousands Of Felony Cases Including Gun Crimes Cases
According to the Tribune, Foxx’s office has dismissed “thousands” of felony cases, including gun cases, sex assault cases, attacks on police officers, and even homicides. In all, “25,183 people had their felony cases dismissed” per the Trib.
00:0500:00
00:29
“[T]he Tribune found that Foxx’s higher rates of dropped cases included people accused of murder, shooting another person, sex crimes, and attacks on police officers — as well as serious drug offenses that for decades have driven much of Chicago’s street violence,” the outlet said.
“For the three-year period analyzed, Foxx’s office dropped 8.1% of homicide cases … Under Foxx, the office dropped 9.5% of felony sex crime cases,” the Tribe notes. “Foxx’s office also increased the rate of dropped cases for aggravated battery and for aggravated battery with a firearm. And under Foxx, the percentage of cases dropped for defendants accused of aggravated battery of a police officer more than doubled, from 3.9% to 8.1%.”
The dropped cases, of course, include that of Jussie Smollett, who inked an unofficial “plea deal” with Foxx’s office just weeks after being charged with seventeen counts of lying to police investigators, stemming from Smollett’s claim that he was the target of a racist and homophobic attack in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood in January of 2019.

BLM ADVOCATES LOOTING
The American press has a long history of sanitizing radical leftist movements. These days the main beneficiary of the press’s airbrush is Black Lives Matter, a racist, Marxist organization that sponsors, in reporters’ words, “mostly peaceful” riots. As with other far-left groups, BLM does not hide its true colors. It just relies on the press to misreport them.
Last night’s looting in Chicago was horrific. No respectable organization could defend such rampant criminality. But Black Lives Matter Chicago advocates looting and more looting, as the Chicago Sun-Times reports:
“The mayor clearly has not learned anything since May, and she would be wise to understand that the people will keep rising up until the [Chicago Police Department] is abolished and our Black communities are fully invested in,” [Black Lives Matter Chicago] said in a statement.
***
On Monday morning, CPD Supt. David Brown said the shooting led to a wave of overnight looting downtown and on the Near North Side that resulted in two people being shot, over 100 arrests and 13 injuries to officers. Though Brown characterized the looting as “pure criminality,” Black Lives Matter Chicago said those involved were actually protesting.
“Over the past few months, too many people — disproportionately Black and Brown — have lost their jobs, lost their income, lost their homes, and lost their lives as the city has done nothing and the Chicago elite have profited,” the group’s statement reads. “When protesters attack high-end retail stores that are owned by the wealthy and service the wealthy, that is not ‘our’ city and has never been meant for us.”
BLM made its advocacy of looting explicit with this banner at the group’s demonstration yesterday:....”

At last, some peaceful comments from a BLM group.

Schools to reopen? Whatz up with dat?
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tucked the posture shift into a Saturday response to Trump’s latest executive orders, saying “these announcements do…nothing to reopen schools,” as if Democrats have been all along supporting school reopenings instead of the opposite. Just a few weeks ago, Pelosi was on TV bashing Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos for encouraging school reopenings, saying, falsely, “Going back to school presents the biggest risk for the spread of the coronavirus. They ignore science and they ignore governance in order to make this happen.”
What gives? For one thing, New York’s richest people have fled during the lockdowns. If their kids’ tony public schools don’t offer personal instruction or look likely to maintain the chaos of rolling lockdown brownouts, those wealthy people have better choices. They can stay in their vacation houses or newly bought mansions in states that aren’t locked down. They can hire pod teachers or private schools.
And the longer they stay outside New York City and start to make friends and get used to a new place, the less likely they are to ever return. Cuomo is well aware of this.
“I literally talk to people all day long who are now in their Hamptons house who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house, or in their Connecticut weekend house, and I say, ‘You got to come back! We’ll go to dinner! I’ll buy you a drink! Come over, I’ll cook!’” Cuomo revealed in a recent news conference. “They’re not coming back right now. And you know what else they’re thinking? ‘If I stay there, I’ll pay a lower income tax,’ because they don’t pay the New York City surcharge.”
Reopening means swimming against their anti-Trump base and teachers union donors’ full-court press to amp school funding and slash teacher duties. That means the below-surface financial and political pressure Cuomo, Pelosi, and Schumer are under to make this kind of a reversal must be huge. It’s likely coming from not only internal polling but also early information about just how many people have left New York and New York City, as well as interpersonal intelligence from their influential social circles.“

And since I am on schools....one lady’s opinion
‘Deep Inside, Rioters Are Angry That They Never Learned Anything But Lies’
Our institutions have stolen critical knowledge from young people and replaced it with the poison of identity politics and political correctness.
“I suspect many members of today’s street mobs have a secret in common: At some deep level, they know they are awash in ignorance of core knowledge. Claiming to be “woke” is cover for the ignorance educrats have systematically instilled in them.
For decades, leftist academics have attacked the study of history and real humanities, and now an Illinois legislator has openly called to abolish the study of history. Recent episodes of Bible burning in the streets of Portland indicate the trashing of America’s cultural memory is well past the boiling point.”

'Residents of Chicago Neighborhood Eject Black Lives Matter Protesters'
"Several activist groups had organized a march leading to the 7th police precinct in Englewood. However, an organizer later told Fox 32 that groups decided to leave after confrontations with nearby residents left them feeling “unsafe.”
If you ain’t from Englewood, get the f*** out of here!” resident Darryl Smith shouted at the protesters. Residents engaged in pushing matches with some of the protesters."

OK... looking at George Floyd's autopsy report, he had ingested a bunch of fentanyl, some say larger than a fatal dose even for folk with a history of use.
Chauvin, when he arrived on the scene, apparently called for the ambulance/EMT expecting an overdose, and kept Floyd down. Not by strangulation (Punchy has that wrong) but by a compression of his right side carotid artery with his knee. The left carotid is enough to keep the brain alive. It doesn't affect the breathing, doesn't compress the airway.
I've not seen any mention of the drugs administered by the EMTs... if they didn't give him a dose or three of narcan/noxolone, we have a place to point fingers, not that the lack of a treatment outweigh the responsibility we all have of not taking fatal doses of anything.
I'm now thinking Chauvin may be blameless, in a criminal sense. But the country and the world are convinced they witnessed a black man being strangled.

If you're bored and want real comedy, head over to Crabb's place and check out the comments.
Crabb has joined Emery on the fainting couch over the dust up on Broad St.
"...while Nevada City police stand around with their thumbs up their arses."
Well gee Bob - we thought the police were the problem.
It gets even better - "How this ever got so out of control is unforgivable, and I expect heads will roll if there are no arrests."
I saw way worse in jr high. A little push and shove. Stupid on both sides and everyone that wanted trouble got it.
Crabb and the left have absolutely no idea. None.
If they think a bit of argy-bargy on the town square is bad, wait til they get a taste of what middle America will eventually do.
Crabb sits idly by while the BLM banner is raised over riot, arson, looting, mayhem and destruction on a large scale and then cries big crocodile tears because there was a little push and shove in NC.

"Well gee Bob - we thought the police were the problem."
The hullaballoo is something to behold. When is the last time that the NCPD appointed a special investigator because somebody hit somebody? Look at the craziness because somebody selectively posted a still image of an NCPD officer walking along with the evil people.
The great irony of our age (or one of them) is this:
. AntifaBLM works particularly well when law enforcement is used to protect their actions.
. AntifaBLM wants to get rid of law enforcement.
Heck, you'd think they'd be thrilled. The entire point of these 'protests' is to elicit a response. If you quietly marched up and down Greenhorn Rd., no one would care and there'd be no Nazis to boycott, get fired, or be outraged about. At a gut level, this is all about the addictive nature of outrage.

Up top, GR wrote,"Did any of them ever take a critical thinking course in journalism school?"
Of course they did, but Critical Thinking since the 60's has been the Marxist inspired postmodern dialectic version, devoid of the logic demanded by the white male patriarchy. In their world they CAN have their own opinions and their own facts.

re: Gregory@9:06AM Aug 13, Year Zero.
It would be an interesting exercise to rewrite AP 'newscraft' in a just-the-facts format. Perhaps there's a place out there for an anonymous group (due to copyright) to put up a website containing that.
It would probably cut the word count in half, but then there'd be more space for actual quotes. Associated Press would do well to look at their archives for how articles were written in days of yore.
Example. I'm thinking about how a bonafide news person would rewrite that.

NC police doing a "complete investigation" of anything makes one recall Comedy Central and Keystone Kops. But on a more serious note, has anyone run across any data on the composition of the Nevada City BLM demonstrators? How many were locals vs the number of imports?
