GR, that wasn't just any typically snarky leftist, that was Crabbman's BFF Forever, Chris. Yes, he is an idiot.

Gregory

"D" 1034am

Perhaps you can tell me... if the 'prepper' doesn't have the Wuhan SARS... how does his wearing the mask protect anyone?

scenes

"if the 'prepper' doesn't have the Wuhan SARS... how does his wearing the mask protect anyone?"

If he does have the China Flu, I can't say that most of the masks I see make any difference anyhoo. A bandana, loosely worn, improperly donned and doffed, never washed, made of porous cloth, likely does more harm than good. Not to mention all the schnozzes sticking out. Hang on, there is that value of virtue signalling.

In any case, this is all off topic. Yet another 'D' slide post. Or maybe it's just the sheer laziness of posting on the topmost topic.

re: Income inequality.

I wonder sometimes if there shouldn't be another way to measure that and it's social effects. The truly rich simply become a form of investment bank, providing money for lending in some form. They almost don't matter since they simply can't buy that much property (or don't), can't eat that many sammiches, don't horde all the pretty wimmen.

In terms of applying pressure through government, if not Bezos or Soros (the 'os' brothers), it would just be a labor union leader or successful non-profit executive.

Maybe Gini scores should look at the spread between poor and upper-middle class, I think that's where the real action is.

George Rebane

scenes 1148am - IMHO, that is also my, and I believe the correct, understanding of how the rich contribute to the velocity of money in an economy. They do not hide their wealth in a mattress, but have it out there providing both debt and equity capital to the world's commerce - they grease the skids in a much more efficient and wiser way than any government could.

D

Scenes, I thought this Scattershots was about cartoons.

scenes

I just had to look up US Gini scores, from the St. Louis Fed website.

2000: .462
2008: .466
2016: .481
2019: .484

make of it what you will. If a lower score is desirable (like in Russia or France) it's hard to tell what will push it in a desired direction or what the differences between countries even are. I'd say that the gut feeling by the Blue Mob is that you simply extract cash from one group and give it to another based on how much you like the recipients and dislike the donors. Odds are you just end up with new faces in the Rich 'n Powerful Yearbook.

"Scenes, I thought this Scattershots was about cartoons."

That's a fair statement. My apologies.

Chris Peterson

So, here's where you ran off to, Rebane, after losing the argument on Crabman's blog so embarrassingly. You had no answer for why, using updated figures, it didn't matter what form of government your chosen examples had, they were all better off in income equality than we are; a fact that started way before Obama and continues to this day.

And I wondered where all the blog rejects had gone, and here they are; the mall cops of patriotism. Just think; three more days and you boys will witness the power of a Democratic House, Senate, and Presidency. (On the plus side, Amazon is planning a sale on MAGA-embossed Depends.)

Cheers!

George Rebane

ChrisP 200pm - Welcome Mr Peterson. I see you carefully monitor what you publicly disparage. Like so many other blogs, RR is not an echo chamber for the politically correct; your ideological colleagues have been at home here for years presenting their views on the issues, and contending with me and mine.

And it seems that you can't even tell what the argument on Bob's blog was, let alone being able to judge its outcome. Re the Gini Index, you and yours really don't understand that it is not even close to being the final arbiter on a nation's quality of life as claimed in the Left's narrative.

Here is the Intercept response to Whiney Glenn Greenwald's Biden hit piece being declined for publication.

"GLENN GREENWALD’S DECISION to resign from The Intercept stems from a fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship. Glenn demands the absolute right to determine what he will publish. He believes that anyone who disagrees with him is corrupt, and anyone who presumes to edit his words is a censor. Thus, the preposterous charge that The Intercept’s editors and reporters, with the lone, noble exception of Glenn Greenwald, have betrayed our mission to engage in fearless investigative journalism because we have been seduced by the lure of a Joe Biden presidency. A brief glance at the stories The Intercept has published on Biden will suffice to refute those claims.

The narrative Glenn presents about his departure is teeming with distortions and inaccuracies — all of them designed to make him appear as a victim, rather than a grown person throwing a tantrum. It would take too long to point them all out here, but we intend to correct the record in time. For now, it is important to make clear that our goal in editing his work was to ensure that it would be accurate and fair. While he accuses us of political bias, it was he who was attempting to recycle the dubious claims of a political campaign — the Trump campaign — and launder them as journalism.

We have the greatest respect for the journalist Glenn Greenwald used to be, and we remain proud of much of the work we did with him over the past six years. It is Glenn who has strayed from his original journalistic roots, not The Intercept.

The defining feature of The Intercept’s work in recent years has been the investigative journalism that came out of painstaking work by our staffers in Washington, D.C., New York, and across the rest of the country. It is the staff of The Intercept that has been carrying out our investigative mission — a mission that has involved a collaborative editing process.

We have no doubt that Glenn will go on to launch a new media venture where he will face no collaboration with editors — such is the era of Substack and Patreon. In that context, it makes good business sense for Glenn to position himself as the last true guardian of investigative journalism and to smear his longtime colleagues and friends as partisan hacks. We get it. But facts are facts, and The Intercept’s record of fearless, rigorous, independent journalism speaks for itself.GLENN GREENWALD’S DECISION to resign from The Intercept stems from a fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship. Thanks for posting here, Duh. We are able to see how you leftys mis-use the brains you were given.
re the Intercept story - "Blah, blah, blah... No, we're not going to post his original story and point out what was wrong with it and the changes we demanded before publishing. Maybe we will later, maybe not". Most likely, never.
Total BS. If the pansies at Intercept want to present their case, then give us all the facts. Otherwise STHU.
The 'bombshell' story you leftys keep pushing was unknown to all but a handful and went no where. Trying to conflate it with the current news from Hunter's laptop is something only the stupid are buying.
And BTW - that DK story contained overt lies.
UPS themselves told Carlson they couldn't find the thumb drive. It was an overnight and it didn't arrive. Later, UPS claimed they had found it just lying on a desk and they had thrown away the envelope.
Sorry Duh - you and Paul are backing the perv party.

Pretty remarkable for a fake Russian disinformation AI generated ersatz not real digital thingie.

scenes 7:05 - no surprise for those who keep current with actual facts.
Hunter (the smartest man I know) left his wallet with his driver's license, Secret Service identity card, drugs and crack pipe in a rental car dropped off after business hours far from the office with the keys left in the gas filler compartment.
The office was notified of where the keys were from a dry out tank.
It was national news, but Joe Biden swears up and down his widdle boy is clean as the driven snow.

It's Halloween - we watched Murder In The Blue Room and The Ninth Guest. Total cheesy crap.
My fav Bond movie was You Only Live Twice.
I was still 15 and my older sister had been stood up by her date that night. A pretty rare occurrence. "C'mon", she said - "I want to see the movie and at least I'll have some one to talk to".
High praise.
She had a '59 Ford Anglia shooting brake. Hey - my sister acknowledges my existence. That's progress. She just wanted to see Connery.
I was happy to get to go anywhere I didn't have to ride my bicycle to.
Some drive-in in Rancho Cordova.
I really liked the theme song. To this day, I still do.
The movie was typical Bond of the era. I'm watching it wondering - "where do these workers go to get groceries and stuff?"
All these people on an island with Dr Evil or whatever - do they have a dental plan?
My sister pulls out a pack of Salems and tells me "don't tell mom and dad."
Yeah - they'll never know.
Damn - just hearing that song takes me right back there.
RIP, Jane.

BT 10:32 - "As the gilded one percent takes up more economic space, the competition for what remains becomes more bitter. "
What 'remains' is a pie of infinite size.
The man is an idiot of first order.
People like this fool better go to Africa and start shooting dead the faster gazelles.
Those damned creatures are winning the competition.
Then start shooting the faster cheetahs.
Maybe go to the old folks home and strangle the older ones that have lived longer.
The competition is only "more bitter" because the competitors realize they have been cheated by not being properly educated by the centuries of obvious lessons that people of 100 years ago knew by the time they were in middle school.
Look up the story of Robert LeTourneau.
He lived during the Gilded Age and rose from nothing to become an equal to Henry Ford and Bill Gates. Because he didn't waste his time being envious of what others had.
What 'remains' in this country - at least for now - is a galaxy of opportunity for absolutely anyone who would simply apply themselves.
The only thing that 'divides' us is how much you are willing to work.
That's what all of God's creatures are designed to do.
But God allows for free will even if your will is to invest your life in sloth and envy.
You can be in whatever 'class' you want.

Glad to talk about the shitgibbon any day you want. He's getting some decent judges on the bench. Trying to get the nation back to work instead of hiding under the bed. Keeping us out of wars. Making historic peace deals in the mid-east. Prodding our so-called allies into keeping up their end of the bargain. We are again a net exporter of energy.
Of course he's also busy acting like a jerk and bragging about things he hasn't really done as well on, but I don't have to listen to him or hang around the guy so I'll just enjoy the improvements he's made for our country.
And Duh - making fun of people because of physical conditions they were born with is pretty low class. Just thought you'd want to know since you wouldn't want us to think of you that way.

Gregory 854pm - To be clear, Safeway has never run out of tonic water in screw-top plastic bottles. These are unsuitable for those of us who want to have a limited amount for a drink or two, they lose their fizz. The preferred kind is in cans that come in a long 12-pack, the same packaging used for all kinds of canned soft drinks. And they were always out of the tonic water packs. Anyway, what they are again stocking in 12-packs is labeled 'Signature Select' - I think it's a store brand.

Schweppe's in small bottles tastes good and keeps fizz fine (especially with Tanqueray), and there's the new fangled "Fever Tree" brands that cost an arm and a leg in small bottles. Taste great but, being a tightwad of sorts I prefer not to pour that much money into mixers.

If the booze to be mixed is tequila, my favorite mixer is Shasta Grapefruit soda which to my palate is better than the Squirt which is called for making Palomas but Palomas don't do a thing for my malaria.

Stunning loss of major PA endorsement the biden, whats her name campaign can not afford -

Biden’s convergence on Pittsburgh comes after the editorial board of the region’s largest newspaper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, announced it was endorsing Trump for reelection.

In announcing its decision, the editorial board admitted that while it was not a fan of Trump’s style, it could not deny his accomplishments. The board, in particular, praised the incumbent’s support for domestic manufacturing and fairer trade practices.

“No one ever asked the American people, or the people in ‘flyover,’ country, if they wanted to send their jobs abroad — until Mr. Trump,” the Post-Gazette’s editorial board wrote.

The Post-Gazette’s backing of Trump marks the first time the paper has endorsed a Republican for the White House since 1972. When explaining its reasoning for breaking with that long tradition and snubbing Biden, the paper’s editorial board argued that Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), had staked out positions that were out of the political mainstream for Western Pennsylvania.

“The Biden-Harris ticket offers us higher taxes and a nanny state that will bow to the bullies and the woke… It offers an end to fracking and other Cuckoo California dreams that will cost the economy and the people who most need work right now,” the board wrote.

“‘Good-paying green jobs'” are probably not jobs for Pittsburgh, or Cleveland, or Toledo, or Youngstown,” the editorial board added.

Panic mode -

The full-scale mobilization comes one day after President Donald Trump hosted a rally in western Pennsylvania. Trump, who polls show is narrowly behind in the commonwealth, drew a massive crowd, with some estimating more than 57,000 individuals were in attendance. The sheer size of the crowd forced Pennsylvania’s Lt. Governor John Fetterman (D) on Sunday to warn fellow Democrats not to take Trump’s popularity in the state lightly.

“This is not MAGA propaganda. Can’t fake a crowd like that. But you *can* make sure you show up and get every vote in,” Fetterman wrote on social media.

Others on the left have begun voicing similar concerns in recent days, with the Washington Post reporting on Sunday that “confidence has eroded” about Biden’s chances of carrying Pennsylvania easily.

Complicating matters for Biden and down-ballot Democrats is that the GOP has narrowed their voter registration advantage in the state.
