My hatred of Bolshevism and Bolsheviks is not founded on their silly system of economics, or their absurd doctrine of an impossible equality. It arises from the bloody and devastating terrorism which they practice in every land into which they have broken, and by which alone their criminal regime can be maintained. Winston Churchill
George Rebane
This is another installment in RR’s educational series to illuminate the workings of a liberal mind. As such it contributes one more important illustration of how the liberal mind functions, and why it is nigh impossible today to make any measurable progress when engaged with them in the understanding of political processes and the shaping of public policies.
Here one of our prominent liberal readers, burdened for years with a severe case of TDS, takes the former president to task once more for what to him is yet another of Trump’s lies – purposeful spread of deceit to harm Americans. Before dissecting the errors, we examine the relevant parts of the exchange between the liberal and me as taken from the comment stream of the 23jan21 posting of Scattershots (here).
&&&&&
Liberal Commenter: Trump had a PLAN that promised 20 million inoculations by the end of the year. Only 4 million were actually enacted. Another Trump lie.
Rebane: Those kind of hopeful promises by a president achieving historical accomplishments is all that the lame Left has to hang their hat, what a shame that there are grassroots Americans who can always be bamboozled by such astute observations and accusations. And, unfortunately, that share of our population is growing, thanks to our unionized propaganda mill that the Dems are trying to pass off as our public school system.
Liberal: So George you don't consider Trump’s not even near achievement of his promise to be a lie? At least he could attempt to explain to the American people why it failed.
Rebane (responding to another liberal commenter): apparently our leftwingers never heard of low unemployment rates for minorities, or fastest time to develop vaccines, or the increase in middle-class wage purchasing power in decades, or ...
Liberal: That's a clumsy diversion from the question at hand. Why did Trump lie about the gross difference in his promise to deliver vaccines and the actual number he delivered? He only delivered 20% of what he assured the American people would be available. Was it out of ignorance that he made that prediction or did he simply lie and why did he think it not worthy of an explanation after the facts became known?
Rebane: My (above) citations were material, your endless citations of Trump's "lies" are really inconsequential and an attempt to foster some kind gotcha dialogue. We've gone over this countless times. Do you really think this attempt at discourse is profitable on RR. Neither side accepts nor respects the other's worldview. Why don't you try working on some ways that the 'unification' your hero spoke of (and then immediately abrogated) could be achieved? Since you're one of his believers, how do you think that he is now going to attempt to unify us? That's a real conversation.
Liberal (responding to another commenter): The lie I'm referring to just happened and affected the lives of the other 16 million Americans that were expecting a vaccine based on our President’s promises. Who knows how many lives would have been saved had Trump fulfilled his pledge to the American people.
Rebane: Your question, "Who knows how many lives would have been saved had Trump fulfilled his pledge to the American people." ranges from being baseless to totally illogical. There is nothing anyone could have done or would have done differently based on Trump's hopeful schedule, which BTW he did not historically miss by much. No one was basing life/death decisions on Trump's prognostication (not a lie intended to deceive). If you want to put a metric on a politician's statement being a lie or not, use the decisions among the electorate that it may reasonably invoke. If those decisions taken were harmful to the people, then you MAY have a case to make about lies, if not then simple ignorance or bravura would serve. But those considerations are not germane to the points you want to make.
Liberal: What should Trump say to the 16 million Americans who didn't get a vaccination because Trump lied?
Rebane: What again is the reason for bringing some "16 million" who supposedly didn't get a shot because "Trump lied"????? Where is there any reason or logic behind such a question?
Liberal: Trump promised 20 million vaccinations by December. I assume we can agree on that. He only delivered 4 million therefore 16 million didn't get the Trump promised vaccine.
&&&&&
So there you have it. For the sake of argument, let's not quibble about whether, when, or how President Trump may have made his ‘20 million vaccinations’ statement. Let’s just accept it as a plausible given that occurred during the course of Operation Warp Speed (OWS), a program already promising an historically early release of at least one vaccine before the end of 2020. As every well-read American knows, part of OWS was the administration's use of the military’s logistic resources to implement a plan to rapidly distribute the vaccine(s) to the states responsible for internal redistributions and actual inoculations. And as every well-read American also knows, this first-ever effort was accomplished again with historical success.
And lastly, as every well-read American knows, these Trump administration successes were anathema to the Democrats during an election year. All of which caused the already established and smooth-running Pravda-propaganda machinery to shift into high gear and report to the contrary almost every aspect of the ongoing milestone achievement.
So, in this context, we come back to our liberal commenter sporting a knowledge base on the matter obviously gleaned only from lamestream outlets. But no matter, it is his logic that is in question here. From the above comment thread it is clear that he somehow considers that there were 16M Americans who, pursuant to Trump’s 20M vaccinations statement, had made material plans to conduct their post-vaccination lives with the full expectation that they would be members of the fortunate 20M-member cohort.
That anyone would form a picture of how such a specific 20M-cohort, out of a population of 330M, would come to such a hopeful and fortunate conclusion is beyond any reasonable person’s ken. And then our liberal logician implies, from out of the subsequently 16M left-out unfortunates there had to be some of them who contracted C19 and then died, that these deaths were now unquestionably on Trump’s shoulders. Had he been prescient (or not perfidious) about the actual 4M inoculations realized, then miraculously, these deaths among the denied 16M would have been prevented.
Such mind-boggling machinations go on daily in millions of leftwinger minds. It is their brains’ abilities to support such ‘reasoning’ that also contributes to the long list of fictions they harbor about how humans behave ethically, culturally, and in the marketplace. (The most visible evidence of this is their unquestioning embrace of collectivist ideologies – e.g. socialism, communism, …) Therefore, in these pages there has never been an attempt to convince liberals of the nature of their follies, but simply to point them out so that perhaps the independent minded readers may benefit, and avoid a life-altering infection that is clinically visible with modern brain-imaging systems. (more here)
AAhhhh. "He who shall not be named." I like it.

One of the Trump lies recently decried by our Liberal is that Trump did not build the wall, thus Trump lied! It did make be smile for a whole day,
Putting aside the resistance’s coordinated efforts to block all attempts to build the wall and all funding, let’s see what Biden did on Day One. Joey the Finger Licker ordered all the current on-going construction of The Wall to cease. Cease and desist. That makes Trump a liar!
Posted by: Bill Tozer | 26 January 2021 at 12:16 PM
You mean the wall that Biden stopped construction on was never built?! 😂
Posted by: Barry Pruett | 26 January 2021 at 12:41 PM
Well
Trump had four years to build the wall and he promised Mexico was going to pay for it and it never got finished. IT was a campaign promise. So time and money was not an issue so what do you think happened?
Posted by: paul emery | 26 January 2021 at 12:47 PM
Here's more about his "promise" to build the wall:
Donald Trump promised to build a border wall and make Mexico pay for it. That didn’t happen
"Mark my words," Donald Trump said when he launched his presidential campaign on June 16, 2015.
Trump had just promised to "build a great wall," on the U.S.-Mexico border, "very inexpensively."
"And I will have Mexico pay for that wall," he said.
More than three years into Trump's presidency, his administration's actions have not risen to his promise.

Well Fish,, the pile of pony droppings sure showed up.
As for lies,, it is whatever he who shall not be named says they are. In his cataract coated eyes, if it's not done overnight,, it's a lie. Does the LIB understand it take time to invent cures? It takes time to build 1000 miles of barriour?
Frivolous lawsuits take time to get kicked to the curb, Lawsuits to stop funding despite simple idiot english says the money CAN come from "X",, also take time to kick to the curb.
But those are all lies according to he who shall not be named.
Now where is all my free money that Chanslor biden promised?
You know,, "on day ONE".....
Is putting 60,000 people out of work "getting America back to work? You DO know Biden "promised" that?
60,000 jobs GONE,, with one signature. Great "promise" kept... Right?
Posted by: Walt | 26 January 2021 at 01:26 PM
If I recall, we had a shut down over funding of the wall. What, the longest shutdown in the history of our nation? Or so we were told non-stop, 24/7. How many lawsuits to block the Wall? How many testimonials of tears eyed folks who would lose their homes and die in the streets (government workers with bennies and contractors) because they might miss a check until the shutdown was over? Oh, you would have thought it was the end of the world if you were unfortunate to view The Addicted to Outrage Media-Leftinista Industrial Political Complex. Trump relented, ended shut down without getting money for the wall. One thing about Trump is he is a determined fellow. He tried going left, going right, going around, going over the resistance to build the Magnificent Beautiful Wall. And all Nancy would appropriate for border security was money to repair the existing falling down wall sections made with Vietnam era metal panels from pontoon boats and sides of scraped tanks....along with miles of two stands of cut barb wire hanging from old wooden decaying fence posts in to keep human smugglers and drug traffickers out. At least President Trump got a few hundreds miles done around critical choke points. A Herculean Effort, but yeah, Trump did not deliver on that one. Liar!!!!
Funny, the same ones that have said at least a hundred times over that “you can’t believe anything Trump says, he is a liar,” are the same 16 million souls who hung on Trump’s every word about getting that needle in their arm. That was the one time, the first time after 4 years, that they 100% believed Trump the Liar and rearranged their whole schedule and lives to be among the first 20 million to get the vaccine, ROFLMAO.
Rather than continue on, I will let this ride as a perfect exhibit of Liberal Logic on Parade.

If I recall, Trump said the vaccine would be discovered and ready maybe by Thanksgiving(!) or December. Well, he was hoping and every single Disinformation Spreader of Lies (news redirectors, lamestream purveyors of lies and deceit and other vile sorts) all in unison said it was impossible to have a vaccine in that time frame. They ridiculed Trump over that one as utter nonsense, with expert after guest expert on the Max Headroom shows saying it is impossible, never happened before, end of story. Foolish lying man that Trump be. What, does he think he has a magic wand or something?
Well, well, well. Come to find out that Pfizer discovered the cure, the miracle vaccine, in October (11?)
but did not publicly announce the cure until after the election. Guess they did not want to break the good news before the election and influence the outcome.....and get blamed for re-electing Trump. And Biden on the trail said in no uncertain terms that he would discover the cure for cancer. That ain’t no malarkey, man. I will give him all the time he needs or that one. He does have three degrees and finished in the top of his class, so I trust him.
——-
Well, I don’t know if Mexico paid for the Wall or the sections that were replaced, but I do know that Mexico paid for stationing 10,000 of their troops along theIr border with the US to prevent Illegals from sneaking in. Those fence jumpers are the ones who cut in line ahead all the other immigrants that play by the rules and respect our laws and country.
10,000 troops stationed 24/7 month in, month out, year in, year out much cost Mexico a pretty penny. And all Trump did was close the major border crossing for 12 hours. One spot 30 hours. Mexico took it in the shorts for millions (Pesos) in just one day and got the message loud and clear. That have much more to loose the we do, lol. Money talks, bullshit walks.
I look at it as The Mexican National Troops are/were providing us with border security in those long sections where the Dems refused to let Trump build his wall. That sure saves us Bookoo Bucks. Who needs a wall when the the Mexican army is standing shoulder to shoulder protecting our border. Thank you President Trump.
Please, please, please lay some more of the Liberal Logic on me. Who needs Netflix? Live action is best.

BTW, I remember several here laughing at my prediction that we would have more than 250,000 dead by the end of the summer last spring.
Sadly the Trump overpromise led to a false sense of security, rejection of common sense mitigation measures, and 425,000 dead as of today.
Perhaps we could have done better if we had been rational instead of Covid being treated like just another political event by President Trump.

The real question yet to be addressed is: Is the cause of our current divide due to four years of Trump or is it due to eight years of Obama? Hmmm. BDS proceeded Obama. I am beginning to see a pattern here.
In search of the flawless human to make everything just right and good, with reassuring calming words.. That’s a path of disappointments, frustrations, tension, inner and outer conflicts, anger, depression, more anger, more frustrations.....big time Daddy issues. No Daddy could ever live up to those expectations. The first cut is the deepest. Despite what Daddy said, the Easter Bunny does not lay eggs. Bunnies do not lay eggs. Daddy is a Liar!
Truly a world of black and white, all or nothing. No 50 Shades of Grey. No room for error. No room for perspective, no room for kindness, mercy, and definitely no room for forgiveness. A life full of disappointments and resentment leaves not room for joy or lasting happiness. . A life of pettiness, fear, and unwarranted pride. Glum, dark, gloomy.
No wonder the Left is such a temperamental lot. No room for gratitude, no room for the good. Always living in envy, a unpleasant character trait that is worse than thieving.
The irony is those who seek endlessly to control others are they themselves controlled by the need to control. Karma baby. What ye sow is what ye reap. Our Liberals cannot not stop by here. They have no choice. They are controlled by their need to control. TDS controls them. Every uncharitable word they hurled at Trump has come back to roost on their heads. Sour, Bitter, hateful negative people. You can spot them walking down the street by their Debbie Downer frowns and inner turmoil

If you want to see liberal Logic on display, the Chicago Teachers Union months ago called re-opening schools for in-person instruction is both “racist” and “sexist” — the president of the Pasco Association of Educators (PAE), Scott Wilson just echoed the CTU and proclaimed last week, that re-opening schools for in-person learning is not only an example of “white supremacy,” but that concerns over students’ mental health are a form of “white privilege.”.
WTF?? Concerns over students’ mental health are a form of “white privilege?” Silly me, I thought that is what every parent does automatically and assumed that is what any normal teacher would be concerned with, as evidenced with the proliferation of counselors, mental health staff, and a whole curriculum of instruction to lift the students’ self esteem and value in our public school buildings. Never assume.
“Mental health problems account for a growing proportion of children’s visits to hospital emergency rooms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” The Washington Post reported last week. “From March, when the pandemic was declared, to October, the figure was up 31 percent for those 12 to 17 years old and 24 percent for children ages 5 to 11 compared with the same period in 2019.”
Well, it looks like our Liberal Logic on Parade were wrong. Although children are resilient, they will not just bounce back after a year of being locked out of school all bright eyed and bushy tailed rearing to go, like the whole thing never happened. They were wrong.....but refuse to admit their fuck ups. And no one will be charged with crimes against humanity. ‘Listen to the children’ was all BS. Politics trumps our children’s welfare and the double whammy is now our children suffer permanent harm. Liberals suck as much as CNN and MSNBC and the anti-Semitic NYT and the Wa Compost. Shame on them. How dare they. How dare they.
School administrators across the country are now grappling with the suicide problem, noting that while students may be resilient when it comes to academics, they are dependent on social interaction. Thus common sense has become uncommon sense, aka, The Liberal Logic on Parade.
—————————
THEY DON’T EMBARRASS EASY
The sinister role that teachers’ unions play in our society has come clearly into focus, as our children’s lives have been devastated by needless school closures across the country. These closures–still in effect in most places, despite all scientific evidence that they are both unnecessary and harmful–largely reflect the power of the teachers’ unions. They evidently want to get paid, without ever entering a classroom again.
This video was produced by the Chicago Teachers Union. I won’t say it is the dumbest thing I have ever seen; competition for that honor is steep. But it is a contender. As noted in this post’s title, these people don’t embarrass easy:

Idaho is probably one of the most open states as far as restrictions on personal behavior and public access. You can dine inside of restaurants, most of the schools are holding classes in person full or part time. There is widespread disregard for the rule of wearing a mask and folks openly meet socially with no regard for any sort of cap on the number of persons. CA, meanwhile had a much more severe shutdown and limits on personal behavior.
But to the hive mind, ignore all of this and just blame Trump.
I think I'll save that chart and compare it with one after several months of Biden's 'rational and equitable' tender mercies.

The Liberal (or any other for that matter) has yet to stand up for the mentally deficient placeholder they voted for.
OK,, how bout sham impeachment 2.0?
Impeachment is for the REMOVAL of an office holder.. News flash.. Trump is out of office.. How do you remove someone who's already out? ( AAWwww.. Tough cookies... Not enough votes to convict.........AGAIN...) But the frog walk of the butthurt continues.
Is that LIB logic?

"But to the hive mind, ignore all of this and just blame Trump."
I like comparing Belgium v. Netherlands (wildly different), and Sweden v. Switzerland (wildly the same).
It's funny how intellectually dishonest people can be, blaming Trump for some kind of politicization of COVID (aside from the natural tendency to advertise any good news) while building Biden's victory on a road of bones from the virus.
It reminds me of the tendency to blame 'WHITE SUPREMACISTS' for nationwide terrorism, after all there were some guys with swastikas at Charlottesville fighting with the jillion Leftists who showed up + 50 or so white guys and gals who got let into the Capitol. At the same time, the amount of Leftist rioting, property destruction, murders at the property destruction are practically uncountable. The blindness built into bias is breathtaking.
The fedgov is currently screwing it's courage up to declare WHITE SUPREMACISTS! the primary source of bad doings in the US.

If it was contained to worrying about the coupla dozen people who actually think about blowing up things, I'd say fine. From all accounts what's really happening is a redefinition of a sizeable part of the population as enemies of the state. Where she stops nobody knows.

“From all accounts what's really happening is a redefinition of a sizeable part of the population as enemies of the state. Where she stops nobody knows.”
Enemies of the state, eh? Did you say Enemies of the State? That phrase really popped out at me as I just finished reading this essay by Peter Wood, president of the National Association of Scholars.
The Left doesn't even know what our State is. The Left has the uncanny ability to blame others for what they themselves are doing. Definition of ‘projection.’ Add transference. Rules for Radicals and that song and dance. Anyway, good morning Scenes and all.

1619 Project: A bunch of essays written by some unknown writer who is trying to spin some straw into gold by being edgy. Scarcely anyone has read it. The name has simply become a meme.
1776 Report: Somewhat smaller. A few essays on founding documents. Scarcely anyone has read it. The name has simply become a meme. Useful for Trump haters to find one more reason to hate the historical United States.
It's probably time to divvy the country up. Question: Can it be done in a purely digital sense or do we need proper borders? Where are they? Simply basing it on county voting 1/2 the country lives in some tiny spits of land.

To the MIA, LIBERAL... Your SO concerned with the tax dollar.
https://dailycaller.com/2021/01/27/jennifer-granholm-michigan-energy-companies-bankrupt/
"President Joe Biden’s nominee to head the Department of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, divvied out millions in taxpayer funds during her two terms as Michigan governor to alternative energy companies that eventually went bankrupt.
Granholm’s administration provided a $9.1 million refundable tax credit to a renewable energy company registered to the address of a single-wide trailer and run by a convicted embezzler named Richard Short.
Granholm also granted $10 million to an electric car battery manufacturer, A123 Systems, in 2009 and lauded the company in a press conference, saying it would help “make Michigan the alternative energy capital of North America and the advanced battery capital of the world.”
A123 Systems, which also received a $249.12 million federal grant by the Obama administration, filed for bankruptcy in 2012. The company is still in operation today as a subsidiary of a Chinese firm, Wanxiang America."
And the evidence gets worse from there.
Your geezer(or his care givers) sure know who to pick'm.

Liberal Logic on Parade in quotes.
For the record: “Even after Donald Trump overturned the policy, taxpayers were forced to make a huge investment in the Left’s social petri dish, sinking well over $8 million into treatments, hormones, and surgeries for the handful of transgender-identifying troops who were grandfathered in. … Surgeries alone racked up $2 million — an average of $12,422 a servicemember. And that was with the Trump ban in place! Imagine how much Americans will be spending when Biden opens the ranks to this all-expenses-paid gender nonsense for four full years!” —Tony Perkins
Re: The Left: “[Joe Biden] issued an executive order last week, which, if it stands, will potentially destroy women’s sports over the next decade, denying your daughters and granddaughters of the opportunities that Title IX has provided for the past 49 years. So, the president who is in office largely because he won the women’s vote has just created a regime where your 17-year-old daughter may have to compete against a 17-year-old boy in track and other sports. When she loses the competition, she may have to take a shower with him when it’s all over.” —Gary Bauer
Observations: “For those of us in the media, there’s a real challenge to confront: a wave of censorship that seeks to silence conversation, to stifle debate, to ultimately stop individuals and societies from realizing their potential. This rigidly enforced conformity, aided and abetted by so-called social media, is a straitjacket on sensibility. Too many people have fought too hard in too many places for freedom of speech to be suppressed by this awful woke orthodoxy.” —Rupert Murdoch, chairman of News Corp.
Upright: “The mob who stormed the Capitol on January 6 to try to stop Congress from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities were behaving like domestic enemies of our country. But let’s be clear: The John Brennans, Adam Schiffs, and the oligarchs in Big Tech who are trying to undermine our constitutionally protected rights and turn our country into a police state with KGB-style surveillance are also domestic enemies — and much more powerful, and therefore dangerous, than the mob that stormed the Capitol.” —Tulsi Gabbard
Hard-leftist trash: “In the weeks ahead, I’ll be reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and accessibility, building on the work we started in the Obama-Biden administration. That’s why I rescinded the previous administration’s harmful ban on diversity and sensitivity training, and abolished the offensive, counterfactual 1776 Commission. Unity and healing must begin with understanding and truth, not ignorance and lies.” —Joe Biden deriding the honest and reasoned 1776 Commission while lecturing us about “unity and healing” and “truth”
Race bait: “Many conservatives will find the new [Harriet] Tubman bill distressing, even if they could barely tell you the first thing about [Andrew] Jackson.” —Washington Post columnist Paul Waldman
Hollow pledge: “Do you solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of Donald John Trump, former president of the United States, now pending, you will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and the laws, so help you God?” —Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), president pro tempore of the Senate, swearing in impeachment jurors
The BIG Lie: “For individuals who don’t know, guns are not allowed in the District of Columbia.” —AOC
Alpha jackass: “I’m through giving Republicans the benefit of the doubt after 50 years. The term ‘Nazi’ is not even strong enough to convey the opprobrium and disgust human rights activists feel for those who brazenly claim they are simply patriots with different opinions.” —"reproductive justice" author and Smith College professor Loretta J. Ross
And last… “Biden said he ‘doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.’ Really? Then why is one of his first proposals a blue-state bailout to the tune of $350 billion — to be paid by the Republicans in red states? That is a financial insurrection against the half of the states that are not run by Democrats.” —Stephen Moore

Yes, If I was a LIBERAL,, I would stay REAL quiet too.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bidens-keystone-xl-gina-mccarthy-jobs-sacrifice
"President Biden climate advisor Gina McCarthy said Wednesday that the administration is "not asking for sacrifice" with its executive order to shut down construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
According to the Keystone XL website, the project, initially proposed more than a decade ago, would have sustained about 11,000 U.S. jobs in 2021 – including 8,000 union jobs – and generated $1.6 billion in gross wages.
"The most exciting thing about this is we're not asking for sacrifice here," McCarthy said during a Wednesday interview on NBC's "TODAY Show." "The president fully understands that people are suffering now. So this all about recovering from the COVID crisis. This all about building good, clean jobs, jobs where you can get access to jobs to good pay and unions.""

Scenes from the ‘long word I can never spell’ @ 12:19 pm.
“and mutilating surgery will..”. Stop right there, Buster. I can only take so much. Last thing I want in my peaceful noggin today is visual images of ‘the mutilating’, especially the ones that originate from a vivid imagination. They call that the M in S&M.
But since transgenders rights are back in the news and are definitely this week’s most favored status winner by a mile, have you noticed that with all this talk about gender surgeries there is not a lot of talk about women who want to become men. Odd. Just wondering if the surgeons sow a stem on the 🍎. What to they use for balls?? Thought leave me now. Full Stop.
The courts have to decide pretty soon what happens when an inalienable right collides with an alienable right. The inalienable rights (with the Bill of Rights) all flow together in harmony and are not in conflict with one another. This Cake Maker baiting, eliminating religious exemptions, the government stepping in and on so many religious freedoms and liberties, that I, a non church goer and not active in any religious circles, am getting my dander up. Feeling the fight pumping back In the veins, and I am turning into a Defender of Religious Freedom. Sorry, Big Bro, you are out of your lane.
We appear to have a collision of differing ideas about what America is. Either it’s the one laid out in the How-To manual known as COTUS, or it’s just an idea and go ahead and color in all the dots and it’s ok if you can’t draw within the lines kind of Post Americans.
I fight for civil rights, individual rights, inalienable rights, and now the freedom to practice your faith or not practice any faith any way you see fit. It’s between you and God.
“5, 6, 7, 8, Enemy stands at the Gate!” “What do we want? Get out of our lane! When do we want it? Now!” Saddle up and remember the Alamo. 11 million more reinforcements.

"Dem cites Capitol riots as reason to make Washington, D.C. the 51st state"
That *is* an odd reason. Of course, everyone is angling for the bit of vigorish they'll get by pushing the concept through. I mean, why not have a city smaller than Fort Worth be a state?
DC statehood, unlike (let's say) Puerto Rico, is one of the stupidest concepts I run into year to year. Simply take the place, carve out some federal areas, and parcel it up between Maryland and Virginia. Fire the mayor and all the other hangers-on and grifters. Done.
It's interesting watching the Democrats make a good try at solidifying a permanent dominance in government. Voting law, mass immigration, more states, fillibuster removal. Now that we've gone from the teetery political balance you had under Trump, we'll end up with a system that you can't vote your way out of.
Oh well. Gen. Washington was a traitor. That, not slavery, was the country's original sin.

https://www.theunion.com/news/downtown-nevada-city-building-on-fire/
Seems the "we know better than the experts" found out they really didn't.
"Last August, as nearly 4,000 residents were being evacuated from the Jones Fire, Michael Kent went before the Nevada City Planning Commission hoping to build his dream home.
Kent, a prospective owner of the historic property at 414 Broad St., was ultimately denied a permit to demolish and rebuild the home built in 1880.
“The danger of this building either collapsing or inadvertently being caught on fire and causing a major issue in the downtown area — it’s real,“ Kent told the commission after a 3-to-zero vote to deny the request."
"According to Lane, since purchasing the property in 2018, three potential buyers have been turned away due to restrictions on demolishing and rebuilding the property.
During the August meeting, city staff recommended the commission find either the building did not hold special historical interest, or that the structure was so dilapidated it could not be reasonably repaired.
Instead, the commission agreed the building should be renovated, but not demolished.
According to Planning Commission Chair Peter Van Zant, the potential fire danger presented by the property was a city issue — not one for the Planning Commission."
Yup,, they say it could be renovated,,, but they sure weren't
the ones forking out the bucks to do it.
And the homeless score another fire.

Dems Introduce Bill That Could Effectively Bar Trump Supporters From Federal Jobs and Military
Supporters of Donald Trump could have a hard time joining the military or getting a federal job under legislation proposed by Democratic congresswoman Stephanie Murphy.
From Hot Air:
"New proposed legislation from Murphy would prevent anyone who participated in the January protests and riot on Capitol Hill from being eligible for a security clearance. Further, she would impose a similar ban on anyone who participated in any “stop the steal” rally or anyone who knowingly engaged with Q-anon. Given that a security clearance check is required for virtually every person applying for a federal job (and many state or municipal jobs) or enlistment in the military, Murphy would be banning an entire class of people from public service even if they never engaged in any violent activities"

First, let me apologize for not getting back to you last evening. Something came up. Important stuff, emergency. I ran out of coffee filters and then it was time to study the insides of my eyelids.
What stuck with me more than anything were the lines:
“Whatever crumb of religious liberty that might be left after enactment of the Equality Act would likely be swept up by the Do No Harm Act, a more comprehensive bill that would effectively render RFRA null and void.” And this crazy harm to dignity stuff. Not only do we have to tolerate others (no problem with that), now we have to celebrate and endorse other’s proclivities.
Silly me. I thought I must tolerate some behaviors under the ole Live and Let Live bummer sticker slogan (and as a defender of civil liberties) which is not a major problem, but I do not ever have to condone such behaviors. I thunk wrong.
Ah, the old one-two switcharoo. The law of the land still stands, but it’s been rendered null and void. Bait and switch in the house of horrors.

From AP today:
“Apple says it will roll out a new privacy control in the spring to prevent iPhone apps from secretly shadowing people. The delay (from September 2020) in its anticipated rollout aims to placate Facebook and other digital services that depend on such data surveillance to help sell ads.
Google, which also relies on personal data to power the internet’s biggest ad network, hasn’t joined Facebook in its criticism of Apple’s forthcoming controls on tracking. Google profits from being the default search engine on the iPhone, a prized position for which it pays Apple an estimated $9 billion to $12 billion annually.”
Apple’s actions make sense to me – after all, Facebook & Google both provided 6 months leeway before they canceled Trump’s accounts. Fair is fair.

“I’m damn glad I'm retired, if they pushed me into one of those 'critical race theory' struggle sessions, I'd end up being hauled off by security.”
Lol. While I have never been subjected to CRT indoctrination work struggle sessions, I up and quit (or fired for quitting) one day rather than face another HR session in getting my mind right. I can’t tell you how many dozens of those “hostile work environment” classes I took and aced them all. Boring. And they just got bigger and longer and bigger and longer and more frequent through the years.
Anyway, a few days after I quit (failed to show up at the workplace, a reasonable request) I meet with the CA bigwigs and security and turned in all the security stuff, communication devises, vehicle, gas cards, and a fat wad of keys that even they had no idea what they were for, lol. Only I knew. :)
It was a nice friendly meeting and I made their job easy by meeting with them (security and regional and state head honchos), did not discuss anything, uttered not one complaint, whine, or defense, thanked them for all their efforts, and apologized to the old black gentleman who was head of security out of the Bay Area for having to drive up here to meet me because I refused to drive down there , turn in the goods, and have no way back. I liked that older gentleman, known him for years. So, after the quick no nonsense departing of ways, they called a cab for me and we all waited outside in a good mood with smiles and when the cab driver showed up, one big wig slipped the cabbie a few Jacksons to drive me anywhere I wanted to go and that was it.
See, my immediate ‘boss’ one day out of the blue cleaned out his desk of personal stuff, got his personal pictures and artwork off the walls on his office, gave his potted plant to a lady manager and continued working there....for years. Probably still there with a bigger title.
He explained to me he just witnessed one of the old timers he knew, worked with, and respected hauled off by security in front of everybody in Sac or The Bay Area or Redding or some place at a meeting. He vowed he would never suffer that indignity. It could happen at the snap of the fingers to anyone, in this PC New Age world.
I too vowed then and there that I would never suffer the indignity either, and had all personal pics and items removed many moons prior. And I did not suffer the I dignity of being hauled out by security in front of anybody. I just could not take it no more, no way, no how. Feeling was probably mutual.

About 20 years ago, I was sitting in one of those sexual harassment training classes out of town and raking in the generous per diem. The HR lady was a big woman (most are) wearing a loose fitting moo-moo cover everything type dress. She asked the class if anyone could think of an example of unwelcome speech/behavior in the workplace that might make one feel uncomfortable....inappropriate stuff. The class remained silent, too afraid to say anything.
Realizing this was a golden opportunity to say something without any repercussions, I raised my hand and said I can think of an example. Looking straight at the HR woman, I said, “Oh baby, that blue dress you are wearing makes you look fine. Real fine.” And I eyed her top to bottom
She stood there for a moment looking straight back at me digesting what I had just said, then turned her eyes and announced to the class she thought that was an excellent example of inappropriate behavior in the work place that might make someone feel uncomfortable and invited the class to discuss Biker Bill’s scenario, ROFLMAO. Gotta seize the moment because you don’t get many opportunes like thatl!
And that’s a rainy day story. .“Oh baby that dress makes you look fine, mighty fine”, he said to the HR woman.

BT - Yeah, I remember those mandatory 'sexual harassment' sessions. It irked me that they usually portrayed it as something ALL the men did at one time or another and it was ALWAYS the fairer sex that were the victims. I did note that after a while, they started to admit that men could be the victims but the bad person still was always a male. But there was mostly a thread of truth that there were some bad actors in every hirer/hiree situation, so what the heck, I'm getting paid all the same.
This critical race theory crap is a whole 'nother ball game. It's racist BS start to finish. If I were told to attend, I'd sit right up front and make sure the instructor saw my cell phone was on and recording.

Scott is not a team player, folks. That explains what the Left’s current jungle drumbeat narrative, which justified everything. Everything. The Enemy is the House—Botox Queen.

BT - "Scott is not a team player, folks."
Ha ha!
Sure I am, but what team? Shirts and skins, Reds and Blues, home team and visitors. Got to have 2 sides.
Now, if I'm gonna have the name, I'd better play the game, right?
I mean if they're going to come for me anyway, why not make it worth their while?
They can have my keyboard when they pry it out of my cold dead fingers!

THE ORIGINAL PROGRESSIVE DREAM HAS BECOME A MODERN NIGHTMARE
George Will has an excellent column in which he presents the arguments of Philip Howard, as set forth in an article called “From Progressivism to Paralysis.” Howard contends that modern government “is structured to preempt the active intelligence of people on the ground.” Moreover:
The inevitable result is paralysis. Governance congeals because “the complex shapes of life rarely fit neatly into legal categories.”

‘The spiralling environmental cost of our lithium battery addiction’
As the world scrambles to replace fossil fuels with clean energy, the environmental impact of finding all the lithium required could become a major issue in its own right

BillT 1117am - Most, if not all, of the progressives' environmental dicta (especially force-feeding us market mangling 'sustainable energy') cannot tolerate anyone to look behind the curtain and report what they see.

‘Democrat Cori Bush Rushes To Defense Of ‘Very Violent’ Criminals Rioting, Attacking Guard In Jail’
“Far-left Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) rushed to defend hardened criminals that were rioting in a St. Louis prison after attacking a corrections officer on Saturday, a move that drew instant criticism given her response to the riot that broke out at the U.S. Capitol Building last month.“
