George Boardman

I would expect a numbers guy like you to take a more sophisticated view of the claims being thrown around by the recall proponents. While they may well have collected more than 1.5 million signatures, that doesn't mean all of those signatures are valid.

Among other things, you need to be a registered voter when you sign the petition, and you can't sign it more than once--a common problem when multiple organizations are circulating the same petition.

The latest official tally from the state makes my estimate of 600,000--a projection I got from people who follow this stuff--appear overly optimistic. According to the latest figures released by the state Jan. 27 for the period ended Jan. 6, 723,886 signatures were submitted and 410,087--56 percent--were valid. You can read all about it here:

https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov/recalls/cumulative-newsom-heatlie.pdf

That doesn't mean they won't get the valid signatures they need to force a recall. But at the rate they're going, the backers will need a total of almost 2.7 million signatures by March 17 to get the 1.5 million valid signatures required.

George Rebane

GeorgeB 1132am - You didn't qualify your 600K and I didn't claim that the anti-Newsom gang has stopped at their 1.5M count. Knowing that a fraction of their collected sigs will be disallowed, they've hired professional sig gatherers to put in place the final cushion to reduce the risk of not making the threshold.

All said and done, I don't think that the current crop of Californians are smart enough to dump Newsom. You gave credence to that by citing how California voters like Repub policies, but continue voting for the scumbags taking the state down the toilet. That means they cannot connect the dots. Sad.

Barry Pruett

George. I think that you are mistaken. Kern County has received over 21,000 signatures but have only attempted to verify 388 and of those 388, 344 have been verified...meaning Kern County still had to go through over 21,000 signature verifications. The rate of rejection is only around 16%. Meaning the proponents probably have around 1.26 million valid and verified signatures. The counties simply have not finished their jobs yet. At least that’s how I read the data.

Barry Pruett

Fresno is a better example. Fresno has received over 27,000 signatures, they are verified all 27,000, and found that only 82% were valid. I think you’re reading the data incorrectly.

Walt

Come on Boardman,, you really believe we are that stupid?
Even this ditch digger knows how the recall game is played.
The signature gatherers will keep at it till the last day.
There are plenty of true blue LIBS would would sign more than one just to have that sampling declared invalid.
We know full well, LIBS are doing the counting, and will find any excuse to invalidate signatures.

Gregory

Rush told me what I needed to know about current events and what I needed to think about them. He will be missed.

That should send the usual suspects into a tizzy. He was,in 92, about the only place you could hear people talk about current events from an unapologetic Republican and sometimes a Libertarian point of view.

Steven Frisch

"Recall backers have submitted less than 600,000 of the 1.5 million valid signatures they need by St. Patrick’s Day to force a recall...."

Sure seems to me that based on the SOS numbers George Boardman is correct and George Rebane is incorrect....it also seems to me that Mr. Boardman did "qualify his 600k...: his qualification was "valid signatures" and the SIS entirely backs that up.

Steven Frisch

Here, let's try that again without the typos that give insecure little Gregory a woody...

I'm sure Texas loves that green power right about now.
Head on down there Steve, and tell them to put up more windmills.

Bill Tozer

Walt (and Woody) @ 1:13 pm
Not only that, they have to provide power to the windmills to keep them warm, roflmao. A net ‘L’ as in loser. Grennies murdered that mother and daughter who unwisely ran the car in the garage to try to get warm. 10 degrees out and no power, freezing ass cold. The loving single mom got desperate.

Greenies always get a woody when they step on dead deplorable Texas women and children types to feel 6” taller. They know best.

As far as Gavin’s potential recall, the votes are always a month behind because each county has to verify signatures and counts and they don’t do it weekly. Some are counting late Jan still All 51 or 52 or whatever there are in The Golden Shower State. That’s after a two step voter registration and ID verification, then sent to the proper county. Be that as it may....it is funny that NOW Dems are all concerned with voter verification, signature match, and all the other stuff that very very very recently pooh-poohed and dismissed just practices as (racist) Voter Suppression!
Every vote matters, whether deadlines are met or not and signatures matches does not matter! Voter Suppression!

Wonder how Gavin feels about deadlines now? Will late signatures count? ROFLMAO.

George Rebane

re StevenF 1234pm - Please see 17feb21 update to my post.

Gregory

Golly, 'Shaky Stevie', I've not been following the recall closely and haven't signed the petition.

Yes, he's a Lousy Governator, but recalls coincident with the election to fill the orifice are a problem. I say, give him room to really trash the state and have the usual election in ... WHAT? Next year?

Walt

Come on back Steve,, explain why these signatures need to be verified,, when all the votes for Biden didn't....
I'm sure Emery has a real good lame ass excuse.

Barry Pruett

"At that time the statewide cumulative summary consisted of 723,886 signatures received by the SecState, of those 485,650 signatures were put through a validation process, and of those 410,087 signatures or 84.44% were accepted as valid." Steve and GeorgeB are playing semantics. As of January 6, about 260,000 signatures had not gone through the verification process. With Biden getting involved and Newsom scrambling and the data bearing an 84% validation rate, it seems fairly certain that they will attain the valid signatures by March. The recall folks actually mailed us a petition to sign with a self-addressed stamped envelope. Lots of funding is needed to do something like that.

Steven Frisch

Posted by: Barry Pruett | 17 February 2021 at 03:50 PM

Just to be clear, the data we have is the data reported by the SOS, and on that Boardman is correct. That is the only thing I commented on. Anything else is you guys putting words in my mouth.

Of course I noticed that many of the signatures were still waiting to be validated, but what Rebane said was that Boardman's comment was not qualified, and it was.

[Walt, signatures on mail in voting are verified with voter registration signatures, just as signatures on petitions are.]

I personally think there will be a recall election...unfortunately.

The reality is the recall itself is nothing but a ridiculous game game...another distraction brought to you by the MAGA crowd, the State of Jefferson crowd, the Constitutional convention crowd...you know, the friggin' gang that could not shoot straight in California and if luck represents about 35% of the population.

Republicans have not won a statewide constitutional office since Arnold's second election in 2006, and as many of you have regularly noted here, Arnold is not exactly today's Republican.

A recall is the only way a Republican can even remotely compete, and in this case there will not be a single Republican candidate because I seriously doubt that Falconer, Cox and Grenell can agree that Republicans should only coalesce around one of them.

Just another rabbit hole for you lost souls to run down.

Barry Pruett

Nah. Newsom then goes the way of Gray Davis. All Newsom’s ambitions of power will evaporate. Bye Felicia.

Walt

"Unfortunately"? So you approve of his disastrous ways.
Got it... Thanks.

Walt

And another bit of evidence of SCREW America first. The Chancellor Biden plan.

2006... the year the Global Warming Solutions Act was put into place, and giving Democrats in the state the opportunity to worship at the Church of Our Lady of the Presumptuous Assumption. Theyy love the sermons!!!!

In fact, recently, the lower atmospheric temps have been falling and are now within about .1 degree from where they were in '06.

You know damned well the vaccine was being doled out and people getting dosed.

Have what it takes to give a straight answer?

Don Bessee

Walt

C'mon Don,,, I have to give then an easy choice.
Three things to try and consider?? Cold fusion will be workable first.

Walt

I would post the facts, but the SAC BEE is real ainal about that.
So Biden won't write off 50,000 in student loan debts,( doesn't believe he has the authority.)(LIBS pissed) But he would do it for ten thousand... And where does the authority come from for that?

Chris Peterson

Walt,
And easy explanation to your inquiry is that, much like your deposed savior, it takes a degree of unbiased thinking to understand that Biden was talking about the reserves the previous administration claimed were there. As he said in his interview that day, when they went to release all the supposed reserves of the vaccine, "the fridge was empty."
His exact quote, speaking to host Anderson Cooper: "The biggest thing is, when you and I talked last, we talked about...it's one thing to have the vaccine—which we didn't have when we came into office—but a vaccinator. How do you get the vaccine into someone's arm?"

He said they didn't have any vaccine to send out; he didn't say there was no developed vaccine when he came into office. Matter of fact, if you read the whole interview, he said exactly the opposite. You have read his comments erroneously, which seems to be a common thread here on this blog, and your posts in particular.

And my condolences on the death of Limbaugh; may he rot below ground as he did above.

George Rebane

Ahh, the joys of impending national unity that we seek through the gleeful exchange of snark for snark.

Chris P - "And my condolences on the death of Limbaugh; may he rot below ground as he did above."
Ah yes, the caring and tolerant left.
Rush hardly 'rotted' above ground, Chris. He had an career in radio that surpassed any before him and most probably after. He enjoyed life and was truly a happy warrior.
I would advise you, Chris, to ditch the hatred you carry around.
It will 'rot' you like nothing else.

Nope, Biden is still MIA on the Texas disaster.

Chris Peterson

Walt,
There was no such thing as a "Trump economy." Unemployment continued to drop and the stock market continued to climb since Obama saved your wretched soul from the free fall of the 2008 market due to unregulated corporate greed at the hands of conservative, piss-down-your-back-and-tell-you-it's-raining, trickle-down republican idiocy, up until the con man screwed the pooch in his handling of the pandemic. Half a million maskless MAGAs down the proverbial drain.

And Herr Rebane, a quick read of posts from your fast and loose followers shows that you only call "snark" when it's not from one of your card-carrying John Birch political adolescents. Half a standard is no standard at all.

LOL!!!!! Cris has been drinking from the kool aid fire hose.
Nice try for an amiture Cris, even the proggy press had to call Chancellor Biden on that.
Funny,, no links to backup your claims..
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/05/23/what-biden-gets-wrong-about-trump-economy/
"At Joe Biden’s May 18 campaign kickoff rally in Philadelphia, the Democratic presidential contender said “President Trump inherited an economy from the Obama-Biden administration” that Trump is now “in the process of squandering.”

Can’t blame Biden for trying to polish up the record of the years when he served as vice president, but — seriously? Democrats continually try to diminish the current administration’s economic achievements by suggesting that Trump was handed a booming economy in 2016. Biden in particular seems likely to hit that theme throughout his campaign. And he’ll be just as wrong next year as he is today."
https://www.lakelandtimes.com/opinions/trump-economy-surges-biden-and-obama-hog-the-credit/
"Joe Biden is at it again — living in his own parallel universe. The same former vice president who says that his son Hunter was hired by a Ukrainian oil and gas company because of his expertise in energy policy is now claiming President Donald Trump has “squandered” the strong Obama economy he inherited.

Here is how Biden put it in a speech last week in Scranton, Pennsylvania: “Donald Trump inherited a strong economy from Barack and me.” Then he added: “Things were beginning to really move. And just like everything else he’s inherited, he’s in the midst of squandering it.”

What’s next? Jimmy Carter taking credit for the Reagan boom?"

Do we need to go back to the "O"loser years with you?
Remember that "magic wand" "O" referred to?
Trump shoved it up your boy "O"'s a** and broke it off.

Actually, Obama admitted there was.

Trump did it, Chris. Not to mention the increase in wages that O couldn't manage.
Lowest unemployment ever for non-whites. Much better than O.
and:
"...the free fall of the 2008 market due to unregulated corporate greed..."
Oh, there was plenty of blame - it wasn't just 'corporate'. And please stop spreading fairy tales about corps being 'unregulated'.
Total BS spewed by ignorant leftys. The govt is always involved if there is a financial catastrophe:

Those partial quotes are the limit of the Lefts' attention span.
If Limbaugh was so awful, wouldn't it be better to post the full text?

Just another news filler to take the spotlight off of our bumbler-in-chief.
How about another news story about the cute lawn signs at the White House?
Chris and the other Leftys just love that stuff.

Walt

This is how the Proggys like Cris spin it.
Trump wins election in Nov. That fact alone has business hiring, stock market sales light on fire, Jobs coming back etc. Anything good that could happen,, DID.. Yet "O" still in office.(and out on the golf course)
"technically",, "O" is running the show... SEE?? "O" did it..
That was HIS booming economy. Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

So recall what "O"&Co. kept repeating of "accomplishments"?
"GM is alive and Bin Laden is dead" Funny,, How many bodys of "dead" investors did they create to keep GM on life support?
OLD GM stocks worthless.. But all of "O"'s pals and lap dogs had the stock of the "new" GM. ( then handing it over to the UAW) The ones responsible for driving GM into the ground in the first place.

paul emery

Yeah Chris once again the Dems have to rescue us from a trashed economy which is the Republican heritage they leave time and time again. Obama and Roosevelt are two previous examples and it's getting worse-two Republican administrations in 12 years leave a destroyed economy for the Dems to restore as they leave office.

Walt

Just wake up "no facts" Emery?

Definition 'fascist'. On Bob Crabb's blog I asked a simple question about the Left's definition of fascist, and got a load of shit in response. Furthermore, they demonstrate daily that they wish us harm, and their long term plans for us are downright scary. We want to be separated and don't want anything to do with them; they do not want such a separation and would rather have their way with us. For all those reasons I believe it's important to know what they think and their disposition toward us. I don't want any of us to be blindsided.

George,
My point isn't whether your family had Nazi collaborators or not, I couldn't care less. I find it much more interesting that your family most likely came to America as WW2 refugees, which was an act of compassion on our part and is counter to every word you write on the subject. And if your family did come here as refugees, it makes one question why families like mine, who have been here since the early 1700's, should take any of your xenophobic ramblings seriously. It's the black hole in the center of your pseudo-intellectualism and draws into question whether you truly understand what being a patriot of this nation actually means.

So, you can take your political advice on how our nation should be run and shove it; we are a society with over 240 years of shared sacrifice and we don't need your empty platitudes to "fix" what we've been successfully doing so long without your misguided opinions. Drop the crayons and step away from the Constitution; you are nothing but a distraction from the real issues of the day.

Barry Pruett

Yes George. You’re an immigrant, and our families have been here way longer than yours. As such you really have no right to espouse your thoughts on the Constitution. Am I summing up your argument adequately Mr. Peterson?

Still living off the family rep ....eh Chris? Tell us again how accomplished they were and how this gives you license to speak authoritatively on matters while feebly trying to silence opinions you don’t agree with.

Barry Pruett

Family rep? Lol. Never heard of CP.

George Rebane

ChrisP 754am - Priceless Mr Peterson, simply priceless. Thank you for being open and revealing in how your kind views immigrants and naturalized citizens.

Something from a couple of years ago at Crabbs. Another swipe at our host IIRC made from the safety of a friendly venue. Chris listed a number of family members who, to their credit, seemed very accomplished.

What they weren’t was Chris.

C.P., I'm ashamed for you... I've family roots in the US stretching to the 1600s (which by Peterson standard identity politics means i win) and some arriving not much before the Rebanes. My wife was born in Gary, IN, of WW2 refugees from Eastern Europe, fleeing the leftist thugs led by Tito.

You are the xenophobe here. The Ugly American.

Chris Peterson

So, just so we're clear; you guys aren't xenophobic, but anyone who reads your posts and dares to call you that must be xenophobic, right? There are no past posts disparaging the refugees coming to our southern border, correct? And all comments on ethnic and religious differences are nurturing and constructive? Right then.

And someone who takes pride in his family coming here centuries ago must never question the wisdom of newcomers whose every written word is a rebuke of the historical American way of doing things. Rebanes' every comment seeks to snuff the flames beneath the great melting pot of our society. Every thought that's put to print is negative; stop this, change that, ridicule these, reject those. You folks are consumed with all things cynical and bleak, with never a positive comment except to pat each other on the back for a barb well delivered.

I thank the gods daily that you are the minority; always have been and always will be, and I leave you to wallow in the festering sludge of your own making.

Ciao

You can’t shame a sociopath. This Newsome’s recall effort sure brings out the worse in people. Or, it is most likely just lefties being their natural bigoted prejudiced anti-women selves trying to institutionalize racism.

Wonder what those crazy white women think of immigrants, people who don’t talk like C. P. Yeh, remember the bad john or jon (lowercase) smith? He called Melania a slut....that’s right, an dumb immigrant slut. That immigrant FOTUS was soooo dumb that she spoke five languages, and of course, being an immigrant, English was not her native language. Spoke English better than the Scots and Aussies, that’s for sure. At least one could understand her and communicate quite well with others. Bill Clinton was upset that an immigrant kicked his dreams of becoming the first First Husband to the curb.
And , oh boy, the Lefties went totally coo-coo when that immigrant woman booted Michele (with the beautiful arms) out of the Obamas’ public housing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave...and took her job too boot.

Let’s see what Ammo Girl has to say about immigrants and that woman. Let’s circle back.

‘Ammo Grrrll provides the intriguing title WHERE THERE IS NO MAN.

“But, oh, the excitement, the drooling publicity, that smug face on the cover of every magazine! Heretofore sane women waxed poetic about the First Lady’s arms. And some certifiable journalists, some with Advanced Restless Leg Syndrome, and others trying to ratchet up the obsequiousness, compared him to God, if only God had had the foresight to wear trousers with a nice crease. The excitement built to a fever pitch when the Obamas planned a Date Night out! But that paled in comparison to the anticipation when the First Family was going to get a dog. That story was milked for over two weeks – what breed of dog? What would the dog be named? (Bo.) And so on, and so forth, for eight tedious years.

In 2016 the All-In Democrat Legacy Media next geared up for The First Woman President. Now, unfortunately, the Woman they were fixin’ to crown was a carpetbagging Senator, a Secretary of State who had failed to protect American citizens abroad, and a nasty piece of work with a slight drinking problem who called half the electorate Deplorable. Half! Not even to mention that the last time she occupied the White House, she and her husband-like substance had turned the Lincoln Bedroom into an Airbnb for bigshot donors. She lost.

And so the winner, winner, chicken dinner, Donald J. Trump, and his family moved into The White House. The new First Lady was a beautiful supermodel with impeccable taste in clothes, considerably more photogenic than, oh, ANY of the previous First Ladies, and should have been considered somewhat interesting in her personal journey from a child in Slovenia to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But, no. There was a RICO-worthy agreement by every media outlet to avoid “normalizing” this family. No covers for the cover girl. It was to be attack, attack, attack, like a pack of rabid Dobermans only without the classic Doberman charm.

Melania’s Christmas decorations were bad; she wore HIGH HEELS to a disaster site (changed on the plane); she borrowed some language from speeches written FOR (certainly not BY) previous First Ladies. Her “Be Best” campaign wasn’t nearly as good as the “Eat Arugula and Play Outside for an Hour, Fatties” campaign of Michelle Obama. NOTHING Melania did was ever good enough. Psychotic Twitter twits called for her rape, and the abuse of her young son. Yet, somehow, she never once shot anyone at a news conference.

There was an election in 2020. A senile kleptocrat and bar-failing VP of some beige-ish tan color who captured 4 percent of the Democrat primary were elected, more or less. And here comes the first puff piece and cover from People Magazine, whose articles are reputed to be the exact length necessary to read on the porcelain convenience. What a coup! They snagged a big interview with Dr. Jill Biden canoodling with Lunchbox Joe, perennially a bridesmaid, and now, at long last, a bride! And what insights, what genius from Mrs. Big Guy! The mind reels.

OMG, you guys, NOBODY has ever before talked about how women have to balance career and family! She had a hard time, she told People, because she came from a family of five girls and had never been around boys when she married the widowed Joe. “Hunter,” said Dr. Jill, evidently with a straight face, “was a messy, sweaty boy.” No kidding.

NOBODY UNTIL NOW has dared to say to working women: “Take some time for yourself.”

Oh wait. This has been a theme since about 1970, which is a mere HALF FLIPPIN’ CENTURY ago. I agree with Whoopi – make this genius doctor the Surgeon General.“

DAMN "chris",, the dispensary out of your usual brand?
Ya' need to get on over to Elevation 420 and get what you can.
But before you toke up,, who's going to pay for the 11 million illegals welfare benefits? Your hero Herr Biden is about to give unilateral amnesty to all of them. Criminals included.
Let's hope and pray,, one of them takes your job. THEN let's see how well you like open borders.

Not just anyone, Chris. Your hostility is palpable.

You're the one unequivocally stating the folks with shallower roots in the country need to shut up and let the Americans born here run the show. A xenophobe, literally speaking.

ps George... thank you for your service in uniform.

George Rebane

Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of people from countries other than your own. To call me xenophobic is more than a reach; given my background, that boggles the mind. But Peterson is not the first leftwinger to call me xenophobic, to which I have always responded 'show me the evidence of my xenophobia'. Those who have made the attempt have inevitably made fools of themselves by not being able to understand the difference between illegal entry and legal immigration. Intellectually, it has always been a bridge too far for the liberal.

BTW, please continue this thread about immigration, illegal aliens, who is allowed to talk about what subjects, etc to 'Right Wing Watchers'.

Oh boy!!! If the Repubs manage to recall Newsom does that mean we have another Schwartz to look forward to? That was the Pubbers choice and look what that brought us. I say stick with Newsom and give it a go in the next Gov election with the best you have to offer.

For a bold progressive you sure are a chickenshit. You think that you would take any opportunity to send California’s pampered prince packing....just for the practice. It’s not like a republican is going win in a special election.

Fish. Cox has a real good chance. What has the Lefticas trotted out yet? You can bet your rented LIB mule he/she/it will be even farther left that Gavin Nussolini.

Here is tthe process in a recall in Calirornia:

First voters who want to create a recall vote must first get signatures. They need 12% of the total voter turnout from the last election. Currently, that's just under 1.5 million valid signatures.

If they achieve that and a recall happens there's a special election. On the ballot, there's two parts. First, voters are asked if they want to vote yes for a recall or no, against a recall. If more than 50% of voters vote no, then the current governor remains.

In the second part of the ballot, voters are asked to pick a replacement in the event the recall passes.

So the bottom line is whether there are over 50% of voters who vote for recall after it qualifies which hasn't happened yet but actually could qualify cause it only needs 12% to qualify. .

Keep in mind that Newsome won election by 61-38% -23% so it's a hill to climb. Have fun Repubs. Let me know how it turns out.

Just yesterday a Lefty (who will remain nameless) said Biden was "taken out of context". No bub,,, NO he wasn't.
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/02/19/fact-check-joe-biden-falsely-claims-trump-had-no-vaccine-distribution-plan/

"CLAIM: “Just over four weeks ago, America had no real plan to vaccinate most of the country.” – President Joe Biden

VERDICT: MOSTLY FALSE. Trump had a plan that was complicated by the diverse policies of state governments."

"“My predecessor, as my mother would say, God love him, failed to order enough vaccines, failed to mobilize the effort to administer the shots, failed to set up vaccine centers. That changed the moment we took office,” Biden claimed."

So "He who shall not be named" protects his Dear Leader to no end.

The LIBS doing the counting will make sure no "illegal" votes count.. They brought their seeing eye dogs this time.
