George Rebane
After three weeks into the Biden administration and Democrat congressional majorities, we have all noticed the latest facet of how the evil party operates. As Bill McGurn observes in the 9feb21 WSJ (here), “Democrats are happy to throw over any rule, custom, or convention that gets in their way.” In these short weeks the examples of their modus operandi are legion and growing. The biggest hoax pushed by Biden in his inauguration speech was that he would be “the unifier”. Well, that turned out to be the biggest load of crap right out the gate.
These changes reach all the way from the vindictive second impeachment, through partisan ramming through of the humongous $1.9T ‘relief package’, to the butt stupid repeal of and effective EO to successfully fight the country’s other pandemic – our ongoing and tragic opioid addiction. In the latter case Biden revoked Trump’s waiver of physicians having to get some extraneous training before being able to prescribe buprenorphine – an enormously effective treatment for opioid addiction that has demonstrated itself in several other countries, e.g. France, where it is widely dispensed to addicts. To reinstate and expand the use of this therapeutic will require navigating a bureaucratic morass while people continue to die. (more here)
But in addition to violating the Byrd Rule that prevents packing budget ‘reconciliation’ with non-budget items that could not pass on their own merits, and moving toward eliminating the 60-vote filibuster, and eliminating the Electoral College, the biggest Democrat travesty is their intention to ideologically pack not only SCOTUS, but also the Senate. The latter ploy would be achieved by making Washington DC into our 51st state, guaranteeing the addition of two more perennially progressive leftwing senators.
What no one seems to understand yet is that this can of worms, once opened, can be enjoyed by both sides. If politically proven partisan cities can easily be made into states by the party in power, then what will prevent the Republicans from doing the same when they again become top dogs in DC? Why can they not then pick a city or two in America’s heartland that are reliably Republican, and make them into our newest states? There must be some Democrat with a 3-digit IQ who has thought of that possibility.
So, if the Dems go ahead with this, the biggest rule change of all, then they must strongly believe that they are on the cusp of making the United States into a permanent one-party state, as we have long surmised in these pages. Then today’s visibly burgeoning autocracies in the leftwing controlled federal government, heavily populated states (led, of course, by California), and large urban centers will compliantly meld into the national tyranny that half the country has feared during recent decades.
And the alternative to one-party tyranny will then be a destabilizing binge of making states galore until the whole thing collapses.
George
Just a reminder that your guy Trump supported the $2000 relief checks that the Dems want to restore with $1400 additional support. I didn't hear a peep from you on your blog objecting to that. Correct me if I'm wrong .

Typical Paul - "But, but, but - TRUMP!"
Paul has never bothered to look into this 'package' of goodies in which there is very little to do with fighting the pandemic and is mostly a give-a-way to various and sundry left wing outfits. Billions that do nothing more than prop up failed Dem run states and cities as well as billions for the teachers failed pensions.
Why in the world are we handing out money to people that quite obviously have never missed a paycheck in this whole 'lockdown' debacle?

Scott
Trump supported the identical $2000 "giceasay that Giden proposes and you didn't say a word about it. Can you explain why you didn't oppose Trump o that matter ?

PaulE 112pm - Trump didn't and Biden will. How come you are answering again with another off the point question? ScottO's question was pretty direct and simple.
BTW, I didn't go either way on these handouts, no matter who has proposed or doled them out. Truth be told, my concern would be the same as Scott's. We have received no checks, and have not complained and will not when you get your check. But your anticipated answer is still germane.

Mr. Emery "45" sure does have a lot of "mindshare" in your cranial cavity. Might you be deflecting from all the not-so-wonderful things Obama and now-46 engaged in during their tenure?

Even the French see wokesters as a cancer on society -
The New York Times logo'Woke' American Ideas Are a Threat, French Leaders Say
PARIS — The threat is said to be existential. It fuels secessionism. Gnaws at national unity. Abets Islamism. Attacks France’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
The threat? “Certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States,’’ said President Emmanuel Macron.
French politicians, high-profile intellectuals and journalists are warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society. “There’s a battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities,’’ warned Mr. Macron’s education minister.
Emboldened by these comments, prominent intellectuals have banded together against what they regard as contamination by the out-of-control woke leftism of American campuses and its attendant cancel culture.

Paul - you need to go back and read George's post. He was talking about the totality of the 1.9T package. There is a crap-load more in that mess than the 1400 clams to individuals. I didn't like the idea of the money in the original package going to people (like my wife and I) while some folks watched their life's business go poof with govt ordered closures. I realize the govt is incompetent to figure out who deserves the money and who doesn't - just because I didn't complain here on this blog doesn't mean I was for it. There are a lot of things I don't like that I haven't mentioned here. I am being consistent. The Biden Bailout of 1.9T is a colossal Dem-oriented goody package to pay back the 'proper' people. We notice it's the Dem-led govts that are most numerous in the ones needing to be bailed out. Anyone care to hazard a guess why?

The scottish wokesters are writing a law that makes anything they dont like online a crime -
The bill would criminalise posts online which are deemed to fall under the vague “stirring up hatred” classification.
In an interview with Breitbart London last year, Mr Meechan said that the proposed hate speech law would criminalise “jokes and memes“, saying: “This bill literally violates human rights, and if the SNP allow this to pass it will absolutely destroy any claims they have made in being an honest and fair government.”
Meechan has become a prominent free speech campaigner in Scotland after he was found guilty of committing a “hate crime” after he filmed girlfriend’s dog doing a Nazi salute 2018. He argued he was creating the comedy by subverting the cuteness of the dog and playing up his girlfriend’s negative reaction for laughs.

When it comes to LIBS a rules, this comes to mind
" Rules?,,, Rules!?,,, WE don't NEED no stink'n RULES!!" Then do as they damned well please. Constitution? "It's what we say it is." As "O" stated,, "the Constitution as merely a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can't do to you. Says what the federal government can't do to you but doesn't say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf."
Even that's out the window now.

DB 6:27 - The fact that the proposed law itself "stirs up hatred" seems to be lost on these imbeciles.

Happy Birthday Daddy! (I came here to wish my father a happy 81st birthday because he is the father of the goddamn year, decades and decades in a row now.)
Dear Daddy,
At great cost, you (and Mama) prioritized raising us to face our lives with resilience, courage and critical thinking. You entertained and taught us using your life stories, and made sure we considered current events with historical context. You always stopped to answer my questions. You always look ahead and help us - or warn us. I'd even tell my teenage self that would pretty much always end up being right.
What your readers experience here in your blog, I have been fortunate enough to experience in person throughout my life. I never knew how lucky I was to be fighting with a giant. Thank you for sparring with me; as I age, you become more and more impressive to me!
You are kinder, more generous, and more sensitive than some of your dissenting readers understand. They might not know how much you care for them. Sure, they'd believe that you sit down at your desk to write for us, but they might not understand that you take extra time to write FOR THEM.
Thank you for being a role model of physical, mental, and intellectual health. It would be hard to exaggerate the love & support you and Mama give our family. It would be hard to exaggerate your love for Mama, your children, your friends, and your fellow man.
I love you Daddy and I need you to last a long, long, time, Teine

re Teine's birthday message - I could make snarky comments about Whiteness and privilege, but it would behoove anyone who thinks that the govt has the power to have all the children in the US have "equity" with George and Jo Ann's children to think a bit longer.
The govt can spend itself into oblivion - it will never be able to provide the kind of upbringing she has testified to.
