If "being shot is a risk police officers take with the job", then isn't being shot a risk criminals take when breaking the law?
George Rebane
Tomorrow our Left will celebrate the life of George Floyd on the anniversary of his death last year in the custody of the Minneapolis police. The ‘celebration’ itself is a specious undertaking of political propaganda at its most blunt delivery while cloaked in the highest level of obfuscation for the nation’s hoi polloi. Mr Floyd was a career petty criminal and drug addict, in and out of jails, who devoted his life to victimizing fellow blacks. His unfortunate death at the hands of white police officers set in motion a perfect storm that has been used by Democrats, cum socialists and communists, to convince the country’s lightly read that America remains a deeply racist country with persecuted minorities, especially our African-Americans, whose lot has not improved since the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Huckster Al Sharpton will feature prominently in the coming kabuki, as will President Biden’s White House meeting with the Floyd family to assure all the country’s blacks it is America’s racist Right that has deprived them of their ‘fair share’, and has kept them suffering on the plantation all these decades.
Victor Davis Hanson (here) and Bret Weinstein (here) whose essays have both hit it “outta da park” according to a longtime commenter, who again joins with RR’s cohort of other astute commenters who regularly bring to our readers’ attention significant commentaries that reveal and characterize these historic times, during which our country is rent and the world order is changing. These pages have featured both writers over the years, and again their recent contributions do not disappoint.
[27may21 update] Crime rates have shot through the roof – “murder rates are up in double digits” - in Democrat run cities where police have been reviled since George Floyd’s death. It is not hard to calculate the number of murders that can be laid directly at the feet of the country’s Left – those both in office and on the streets. Simply subtract last year’s body counts from those that the established trends would have predicted. Today there is a desperate movement nationwide to restore and even increase police budgets in cities where the double dummies have been in charge for decades. (more here) But the damage has been done, the not-too-bright voters in these cities have already been brainwashed into publicly maligning their police departments. This has caused mass resignations of sworn LE officers, and those that remain are no longer aggressively pursuing criminals who are soon released by leftwing prosecutors and judges in these cities. And pity the cop who is accused of stepping out of line – these days that is career ending. We must always remember that for a liberal, allegations and accusations are considered as evidence.
Longtime liberal mouthpiece and Bill Clinton’s campaign manager James Carville claims that ‘Democrats Are the Anti-crime Party’ in a WSJ piece that I suspect was accepted specifically to demonstrate what an idiot the man is. His evidence? Well, the rampant rise in crime all over the country last year was the fault of President Trump the Republican – “violence exploded on his watch”. This kind of commentary is nothing more than what has been typical issue from the Democrat intellect. So now he credits the desperate backpedaling by Democrat administrations to refurbish their municipal police departments as some kind of new initiatives taken by the concerned and socially conscious progressives, all that without a single word on what the proto-Marxists have done to defund and denigrate their law enforcement organizations.
Total news blackout on Ivermectin continues. We have covered its role in the prevention and treatment of C19, but the media continues to deny people the information about this long-known medicine. From ZeroHedge we read – Malcom X once called the media “the most powerful entity on the earth.” They have, he said, “the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of masses”. Today, that power is now infused with the power of the world’s biggest tech and social media companies. Together social and traditional media have the power to make a medicine that has saved possibly millions of lives during the current pandemic disappear from the conversation. When it is covered, it’s almost always in a negative light. Some media organizations, including the NY Times, have even prefaced mention of the word “ivermectin” — a medicine that has done so much good over its 40-year lifespan that its creators were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2015 — with the word “controversial.” (more here)
[31may21 update] CDC reports that C19 infections of vaccinated people is exceedingly rare - 1 chance in 100,000. “A promising new report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found less than 1,000 cases of COVID-19 needing hospitalization out of more than 100 million fully vaccinated people. The CDC admits it is probably undercounting positive COVID-19 cases, however, the report offers a powerful reminder of the real-world effectiveness of vaccines.” (more here) This makes me more than doubly pissed off when I still see masked nebbishes in the public square.
"His unfortunate death at the hands of white police officers..."
Sorry - no, he died of a drug overdose while in police custody.
"White officers..."
2 would be considered white and the other 2 not.
George Floyd was a sad and pathetic figure and I can only shake my head and wonder at the spectacle of people making shrines in his memory and hero worshiping him.
He said he couldn't breathe more than once before they even put him (at Floyd's own request) on the ground. His lungs were filled with fluid. The knee on his neck was light and clearly never impeded Floyd's respiratory or circulatory functions.
What a travesty of justice.

"The teachers who threatened other teachers from the [anti-racist] training got that idea straight from Mr. Grotting who wants to perpetuate [critical race theory] and force feed it to people who do not want it. That is wrong, unethical, and down right disgusting! Don Grotting, you need to resign immediately. School Board members, you need to fire him if he doesn't. Mr Gill, you have an ethics issue in one of the largest school districts in the state."
Bailey-Shah declined to comment on the apparent discrepancy between her comments and Gill's. ODE did not respond to Fox News' inquiry about potential disciplining of teachers.
Over the past few months, media reports have emerged about the propagation of so-called "anti-racist" teachings, which many critics have described as a form of "neo-racism" as they generalize on the basis of race. In audio released by Rossi, his employer appeared to admit the school's curricula demonized White people.

ScottO 1005pm - I understand and agree with your point that Floyd caused his own death. But our jaundiced legal system ascribed the 'responsibility' for his death to what happened when he was in police custody.
My real point is that our progressives and blacks have chosen another low-life to celebrate as their latest hero and racial martyr. Most certainly that drives us more apart, as it ensconces one more "thug and drug addict" in their pantheon of role models. And our nation, led by Democrats, are making this into another international event of 'mea culpa America'.

"Floyd caused his own death". -- gee, that's not what the forensic experts had to say. They say Floyd was murdered as did a judge and jury. How did you come by the information to know otherwise? Were you a witness to the autopsy and use your skills as a "systems scientist" of some kind or another, to determine that having a knee crushing your throat for 9 minutes didn't really cause enough damage to kill George Floyd? Or, as is the case always with the conservative viewpoint on these matters, it was the victim's fault fi they were black.
And please send your thoughts and prayers to the SanJose shooting victim's families. thoughts and prayers are really helpful in combating gun violence. Don't forget to send some money the the NRA as they are in dire need.

Re HerbertL 1233pm - Mr Lydell obviously gathers his news from ideologically collimated sources. Multiple post-mortems came to different conclusions, from asphyxiation to drug overdose to heart disease ... . The main toxicology examinations concluded Floyd had enough drugs in his system at the time of his arrest (he was already complaining of not being able to breathe) that he was already in the process of dying. The police action was judged to be the proximal, not the seminal cause of his demise. Bottom line, it was a complicated death to which Floyd’s lifestyle made a major contribution.

Even the brits have had enough of the wokenistas -
“The National Trust leadership has frequently been out of step with its members and supporters over recent years,” read a copy of the motion quoted by the Telegraph, noting the fact that the Trust was being critically discussed in Parliament and subject to investigations by the Charity Commission, largely as a result of Parker’s activism, at a time when it was faced with severe challenges due to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.
“Unnecessary controversies have threatened to undermine the charity’s simple duty to promote public enjoyment of buildings, places and chattels under its protection,” the motion said, insisting that “fresh leadership” would be required in order to “regain the nation’s confidence”.
The controversies in question include the Trust’s decision to compile a “shame list” of buildings under its stewardship with supposed links to slavery and colonialism, including the home of wartime prime minister Sir Winston Churchill, its attempts to force all volunteers to submit to so-called “inclusion” training on diversity and such dubious concepts as “unconscious bias”, and asking young children to pen poems disparaging the British Empire as part of the so-called Colonial Countryside Project.

George 4:01 -- BS George... I will go with the courts and a trial and a jury and experts rather than your assessment of what did or didn't occur based on what, right wing BS sources? the bottom line is that forensic scientists, unlike yourself, toxicologists unlike yourself, say otherwise. so you re just passing on bullshi*t that suits your narrative of police and black victims rather than what the evidence and experts, which you are not, had to say.

So when is her trial for jury intimidation?
Posted by: Walt | 27 May 2021 at 08:20 PM
Herby - The toxicology report says he had a lethal load of fentanyl in his system. He told the cops "I ate too many drugs". He complained he couldn't breathe several times before they put him on the ground.
Coroners report says his lungs were filled with fluid. He was a very sick man. No one 'crushed his throat'. No one stopped his breathing. No one blocked his artery. All a matter of record. The jury wasn't there at the scene and the jury can't change the reality of what happened that day.
The prosecution presented zero evidence of any kind that there was any racial animus. George Floyd obviously died by his own bad choice of life style.
The jury wanted to prevent further rioting and were afraid of the howling mobs. Total travesty of justice.
Posted by: Scott O | 27 May 2021 at 09:48 PM
Herbert 739pm - I suppose there are experts on all sides enough to go around, and I never claimed to be one of them. But like so many others I am very good at processing what experts say and updating the contingent likelihoods. And like so many others, I don't think the case is anywhere near as clear cut as you and the leftwing true believers think it is. Also, it seems to me that you have some hypertensive concerns about George Floyd's death, else you wouldn't be here protesting so much. Nevertheless, I give you the joy of your fervent belief, and hope that it finally brings you peace.
And you should know that jury trials have a very tarnished record on assessing truth and meting out justice. That is why lawyers and prosecutors do their best to settle cases out of courts that have demonstrated themselves to be crapshoots.
Posted by: George Rebane | 27 May 2021 at 10:00 PM
So George doesn't your acknowledging that "jury trials have a very tarnished record on assessing truth and meting out justice" doesn't that imply that we should not have the death penalty?
Posted by: Paul Emery | 28 May 2021 at 07:21 AM

Posted by: Scott O | 28 May 2021 at 07:36 AM
I'm referring to the death penalty Scott. Once you execute someone you cannot go back and correct a mistake which George imply s happens with jury trials.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 28 May 2021 at 08:25 AM
Paul - if you imprison some one falsely for years, how do you "correct" the mistake.

You can't.

Posted by: Scott O | 28 May 2021 at 08:57 AM
PaulE 857am - I stand with Scott’s responses. Just because a societal process does not yield reliable results is no reason to banish its practice - that is plain idiocy. All we can do with any of such practices is work to improve their reliability. It sounds like you got stuck in one of your nuance-free episodes.
Posted by: George Rebane | 28 May 2021 at 09:11 AM
Paul's touching concern for people who torture, dismember and murder our fellow citizens is rather curious considering he approves of the ongoing killing of innocent unborn human life.
Such is the state of the moral compass of the left.
Posted by: Scott O | 28 May 2021 at 09:16 AM
George, Scott I have never supported capital punishment because the system is imperfect. Besides doesn't seem to make any difference and there is no proof it is a deterrent. Can you show me it has anny effect on crime? Life imprisionment without parole does leave room for correction if the courts proved to e wrong as you claim. happens
Posted by: Paul Emery | 28 May 2021 at 10:14 AM
PaulE 1014am - The deterrent effects of capital punishment continues to be a matter of debate, depending on how the relevant questions are framed. But according to my lights, punishments of all sorts also serve the function of retribution, both from society's perspective and from the perspective of the aggrieved (e.g. the murdered victims relatives and other crime victims). Retribution is an indelible aspect of human nature - denying it by 'turning the other cheek' etc is an aspect of godliness and rare. And according to western culture, it is best if the retribution is carried out by the collective of a society, i.e. its government, rather being left for individuals' vengeance or vigilantism (this is the practice in many cultures including Islam).
Also, game theory has proven repeatedly that the most effective way for parties to begin cooperating vs defecting on the other, is to practice 'tit for tat' in which the victim of defection immediately retaliates, and then continues to cooperate while never being the first to defect.
People of the Left have never understood any of this, which goes a long way to explain why governments dominated by collectivist ideologies have turned out to be the historic practitioners of crimes against humanity.
Posted by: George Rebane | 28 May 2021 at 11:06 AM
P.E. @ 10:14AM-
One thing we do know - the person executed will not, in our human lifetime, ever harm anyone again. So it does prove a deterrence for reducing crime. No recidivism for the executed killers.

Paul 10:14 - I realize that the death penalty in the past has been severely misused but you will be hard pressed to find anyone in the last 10 years (or going forward for that that matter) convicted of murder who didn't, in fact, do the deed. You can not and should not try to atone for past sins by being lax in the punishment of people who deserve to die.
It's not revenge - it's proportionate punishment. Why we are spending 10s of millions cosseting and providing free health care as well entertainment and education for persons convicted of 1st degree murder is something I will never understand.
Paul will rest easy on the certain knowledge that millions of unborn children will be "torn from their mothers" in little pieces in a vacuum while fretting about the low life who have enjoyed their lusts brutally torturing and murdering our fellow citizens and now face their deserved demise.

Does not play well with others walking below his abode. No liberals allow. A angry old white guy! Did you know a house in GV had a b-day party for Hilter. Saw it with his own eyeballs. Just down from the new and I proved Arts Center....twenty years ago. And before that there was a house smack dab in town that flew a Confederate Flag proudly in front!!! It’s all coming back now. A foul wind is a’coming our way.
I always figured the Hitler B-Day House Party was just some of our locales shooting a home made (amateur) sex video with that big old video camera and swingers packed in and they probably left the windows open for more lighting (old technology’ and Paul just was strolling down the street playing Peeping Tom.
But, what do I know? If Paul was robbed of his donation gee-tar case, if would be reported to us as an assault. If the bad guy pointed a gun.....well, I won’t go there. He would be made into some kind of instant poster boy of victimhood, holding his Ann Coulter doll responsible. Let’s cut the police budget, shall we?
Crime. Spike in US, flat or declining in other developed countries (even Mexico!).....but not in Biden’s America.
I know. They are just doing their best to provide a better life for their families.

Thanks Bill,, nice to be back out on the job site.
Screw those deadbeat a-holes who refuse to go back to work and still get a check to stay home. Let the illegals take their jobs. There is plenty of room along I80 for their homeless tent
when the OPM runs out. Biden can't play Santa for ever.
He needs those bastards working so he can tax their sorry ass.

As for Emery and his anti death penalty stance,, 🖕'm
He has no problem snuffing the truly innocent.
If Emery puts what gray matter he has left to the thought, executing the vermin is just a post birth abortion.
By the way.. Don't even try and play the "cruel and unusual,
the execution might be painful" crap.
Did their victims get the same courtesy?
One state now gives the condemned a CHOICE!
Firing squad,,, or OL' Sparky. HEY!! The anti DP, crowd got the needle put out to pasture.
Here is an idea,, Spin the wheel O death. Just like a roulette wheel. A grab bag of execution methods. I would like to see "Drawn and quartered" put on that wheel,,, just for kicks. Barrow the head chopper from France? You can't get a quicker way to go. What would the excuse be there? He might see the bottom of the basket coming?
Public hanging in the town square would be a fine deterrent.
Can Emery name the place in Nevada City where the gallows once stood?

Well at least he did not sniff her. Going full blown creepy grampa joe -
"I love those barrettes in your hair," Biden said to the girl in the audience. "Man, I’ll tell you what, look at her. She looks like she’s 19 years old sitting there like a little lady with her legs crossed."

As if on cue the cackler strikes again -
Kamala Harris tells woke joke about a female Marine
at the Navy Academy - IT BOMBS.
Cadets groan as Kamala cackles awkwardly alone onstage.
Kamala also told the cadets to use "wind energy" for "combat power."
The Biden humiliation of our Military continues.
"Just ask any Marine today, would she rather carry 20 pounds of batteries or a rolled up solar panel, and I am positive she will tell you a solar panel, and so would he," she said, before laughing.
Critics on Twitter were quick to note that solar panels generally still require batteries to store energy as it’s collected from sunlight.

I think the answer is even simpler Herbert. George and his friends do not accept the decision of courts. They need to tear down science, evidence, courts, rational decision making processes and the entire American system of law in order to retain power. That is their aim. They are nihilists.

OK Steve,, care to take Emery to task on those condemned to death? "The court said so". So your a LIB,, you anti death penalty also? Same excuse as Emery? "They might be innocent".

Lefties are peeved in TX.! TX. is making it WAY harder to CHEAT.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/texas-senate-election-reform-bill-biden-security
"The bill would newly empower partisan poll watchers by allowing them more access inside polling places and threatening criminal penalties against elections officials who restrict their movement."
"Another new provision could also make it easier to overturn an election in Texas, allowing for a judge to void an outcome if the number of fraudulent votes cast could change the result, regardless of whether it was proved that fraud affected the outcome."
"Election officials would also face new criminal penalties, including felony charges for sending mail voting applications to people who did not request one. The Texas District and County Attorneys Association tweeted that it had counted in the bill at least 16 new, expanded or enhanced crimes related to elections."
"The 67-page measure would also eliminate drive-thru voting and 24-hour polling centers, both of which Harris County, the state's largest Democratic stronghold, introduced last year."

The ECO bastards just let it slip.
"Climate specialist and CBS news meteorologist Jeff Berardelli admitted this week that the key metric scientists use to warn about the dangers of climate change is not provable science. It’s arbitrarily chosen. They just chose it.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published a report in 2018 warning of the catastrophic effects of global warming if global temperatures reach 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
As it happens, that critical metric was just something they chose."
https://www.independentsentinel.com/scientist-admits-key-metric-used-to-terrorize-us-of-climate-catastrophe-is-just-a-symbol/
"The solution to climate change is to give trillions to the doddering old man in the White House and to despots in undeveloped countries of which China is allegedly one.
This is how Bederelli started out:
In the next 5 years, it is somewhat likely that we will hit 1.5 degrees Celsius — briefly, temporarily — that’s 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit of warming since pre-industrial times. It’s likely to happen during an El Niño year, that’s when it’s really warm in the Pacific [Ocean]; so, natural variations on top of climate change. Then it will go back down."

Steven F 3:27 - "...I think a better question is which neofascist is fisting you. "
Stevie baby first demonstrates he has no idea of what a nihilist is and then proves he has no idea of what a fascist is.
Of course he is always free to post here with some sort of rational argument to make his case, but name-calling is pretty much his forte and his limit.
A sad combo.

“"...pile that can only be exposed by grandstanding. Dem pols. Interesting theory..." Absolutely not. Referring to a call for a bi-partisan investigation, one that had been agreed on by both sides before McConnell disingenuously decided that politics and the Repubs hopes for 2022 trumped all else, as "grandstanding" by Dem politicians, is ridiculous politicking. It's about protecting and preserving our Republic from future insurrectionist assaults, and, about discerning the truth about...the last one. You know...The truths your side would like to obscure...bury.”
