Poseidon has operated a similar plant, the largest in the United States, down the coast in Carlsbad since 2015, but that was approved locally before the state adopted regulations for desalination plants.

The company, which was hoping to break ground on the $1.4 billion Huntington Beach plant by the end of this year, said the commission staff "erred in its recommendation" and called on political leaders to save the project.

"California's elected officials and regulators should consider the dire consequences that this recommendation will have for desalination in California," Poseidon said in a statement.

Democrats’ Culture War Is Destroying Their Ability To Govern Competently Enough To Fool Voters

Last paragraph

“It is also why the left cannot understand its own failures. They have isolated themselves in a bubble that has drifted so far from reality and the concerns of normal voters that even electoral disaster may not bring them back to Earth. Cocooned in privilege and ideology, they think Biden is doing just fine. But most Americans have had enough of a government that is more committed to transitioning children than to controlling crime and inflation.”

Dem Pollster Issues Frantic Warning on Midterms

“Perfect storm incoming! Not only are the American people angry with how the Democrats are running things, they’re angry in a whole lot of different ways at the same time. Democratic pundits are already whining that the media are to blame for not telling citizens about all the good news — everyone has a job and the economy is growing — but the media are unable to mollify people who have half a dozen reasons to want to thrash the Dems.

Mark Penn, a Bill Clinton pollster, in today’s New York Times:

These economic blows are just one element in a cascading set of problems all hitting at the same time. It combines the nuclear anxieties of the 1950s and ’60s with the inflation threat of the ’70s, the crime wave of the ’80s and ’90s and the tensions over illegal immigration in the 2000s and beyond. This electorate is not experiencing a malaise, as President Jimmy Carter was once apocryphally said to have proclaimed, but has instead formed into a deep national fissure ready to blow like a geyser in the next election if leadership does not move to relieve the pressure.

Americans think the economy is weak, inflation is effectively giving them a major pay cut, the border is being overrun, criminals are roaming unchecked, Covid policy is a mess, Vladimir Putin is more dangerous than ever before, and political correctness amounts to a national gag order. Any one of these things could be enough to cost Democrats the House; in the fall of 2014, you may recall, America was in a state of anxiety about mass illegal immigration and a threat from Ebola that turned out to recede quickly, and harshly punished the party in power. Republicans gained an astonishing nine Senate seats, and 13 in the House.

America today is facing real, undeniable problems, and most of them are strongly associated with the Democratic Party. The rout is coming, and Democrats are doing almost nothing to avoid absorbing painful punishment in November.

George Rebane

re BillT 807am - How true, how true. Were things to continue on their present course with the Dem leadership and their lamestream media sporting tin ears, the best the Dems could count on in November is their 25-30% hard core constituency of double dummies, and maybe a smattering of independents. They lied themselves into this mess, and now starting to walk things back may have even a greater political cost since it will expose years of their perfidy and ignorance - a wound that will not heal over one election cycle.

Bill Tozer

Don @ 5:37 pm.

Netflix ruled the roost with pumping out original good content…so, I hear. Then they went Woke and then groomer…and kiss that streaming service goodbye. All the while corporate media was terrified of the Leftistinas and the cacophonous cruel, evil, and punitive zealots of the SJW-CRT and their threats.
Now it looks like corporate America should have been paying attention to conservative America. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that good family movies were raking in the dough at the box office decade after decade. Disney filled that void once upon a time. And look at what happened to the Super Heros. Action chick flick remakes like Ghost Busters are bombs. Thunk. Lead balloons on top of quite expensive to make, lol.

Is Louis Lane a lesbian? It Superman transgender? Well, Casper the Friendly Ghost is safe for now.

How much is this subscriber loss due to pumping out content people don’t care/want to watch and how much is due to inflation? Take a couple dollars more to keep the gas in the cars and add food and rent…well, something has to give.

If you go to the grocery store or to,the gas station, it hits you upside the head every time. That is one thing nobody can hide or spin away.

“I have no idea whether Elon Musk is fundamentally sound or not, but one of Churchill’s remarks comes to mind as the sensible way of thinking about the wider scene: “If Hitler invaded Hell, I would at least make a favorable mention of the devil in the House of Commons.” The wailing and gnashing of teeth on the left today makes it all worth it, even if we’re disappointed with the results down the road. Now here is one of those beware of what you wish for -

But lurking in the background is the long legal fight over DACA, the Obama-era policy of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. President Obama used his authority under the immigration laws to suspend enforcement against young people who were brought illegally to this country when they were children.

Trump moved to repeal that policy, but judges in California and New York put the repeal on hold. Lawyers for Trump argued the new president had ample authority to revoke a discretionary enforcement policy adopted by Obama.

Two years ago, however, the Supreme Court by a 5-4 vote ruled against Trump and blocked the repeal.

Now in the case of Biden vs. Texas, the justices will rule on whether the new administration is free to repeal Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy.

A decision can be expected by late June.

Here's hoping Trump gets back on Twitter as soon as possible. It normal for first term Presidents to lose big in the House in the midterms. Trump, Obama and Clinton as well as Bush Sr. had huge losses first midterms. Bush Jr was the exception but that was because of 9-11 which united the country.

I personally doubt Biden will run again. If he doesn't I hope the Dems will have an open convention and not just hand it to Kamala like they did with Hillary. The Repubs have a huge problem with Trump and if they dump him he'll trash the party on his way out the door.

These are only my opinions but that's how I see it.

"But when it’s snow storming at 11:30 at night, I don’t want to have to think, ‘Is the Uber home going to make a difference in my weekly budget?’”
Pretty sure they key part of that quote is "I don't want to have to think".
It just gets worse - "In many cases, the workers have endured bouts of unemployment."
Oh, no shit.
This takes the cake and explains the whole problem - "And they complain of being trapped in jobs that do not make good use of their skills. Liz Alanna, who holds a bachelor’s in music education and a master’s in opera performance, began working at Starbucks while auditioning for music productions in the early 2010s. “I don’t think I should have to have a certain job just so I can have health care,”"

2 thoughts on “New Ben Emery for Congress political ad”

GregZaller says:

October 25, 2010 at 7:15 am

Electing a congressperson is a process of collectively hiring this person to be a part of a body that makes the most important decisions about our country. Candidates should demonstrate competence and a thoughtful plan of action. If Ben weren’t the same as all the rest he would publish his resume’ for starters. His campaign ad wouldn’t just list his opinions. It would outline how he planned to work in concert with others to bring about the agenda he represents and show why he is capable of doing that.

Ben Emery says:
April 20, 2022 at 12:36 pm
Somehow this popped up when I looked into a campaign piece.

I forgot how much Greg Zaller is removed from reality.

Greg, I believe it was 24 seconds we had to present a message. My website was full of everything you asked for. Take a few minutes and research candidates.

After a Kyle Magin or something like along those lines wrote another hit piece without doing any research this article was written. Although, no apology was given the piece outlines some of the big problems many people have no idea about with campaigns. From February – November we raised a total of $14,000, much of that in the last 2-3 months. The deadline for ballot statement, which I was advised to not bother with by a professional campaign manager, was early August. I forget the total, but it would have taken 100% of our raised funds of the entire campaign to put a short ballot statement.

“In early August when the candidate statements were due, the grassroots campaign was “hand to mouth,” Emery said Friday. He didn’t have the money to pay for statements in every county pamphlet in the nine-county 4th District, he added.

In Nevada County, candidates are charged a flat fee of $75 plus $0.025 for every voter in the district, said Senior Assistant Clerk-Recorder Beth Goodrich.

All of Nevada County is within District 4, so the congressional candidates each would have to pay $1,605.45 for the statement, Goodrich said.

Other counties charge fees under similar formulas, Goodrich said. In Placer County, with about 196,000 voters in the 4th Congressional District, the candidates each would have to pay $4,050 to have their statements printed, she added.

The district also covers all or part of Sierra, Plumas, Modoc, Lassen, Butte, El Dorado and Sacramento counties, with nearly 589,000 people 18 years old or older in 2009, according to the most recent U.S. Census information.”

Eleven plus years later....?

Energy prices began climbing. In response, Biden went hat-in-hand to Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Venezuela asking that they, not we in the West, increase their production. Twice, Biden tapped the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Nonetheless, energy prices kept rising and Americans blamed Biden.

Thus, came Good Friday’s announcement, which reversed a Biden campaign promise to end oil and gas leasing on federal lands. Progressives outraged by Biden’s decision either have not read the fine print or are in on the mischief, for Biden eliminated 80 percent of the land available for leasing and increased the cost of operating those leases by 50 percent. Without saying so, Biden is achieving what radical environmentalists demand when they insist that we “leave” fossil fuels “in the ground.”

‘Never let a crisis go to waste’

There goes our ability to feed the world.

Not to sound conspiratish, but she just strikes me as yet another Ivy League lawyer cog in the US overseas empire. I wish these people would just leave everyone else alone. Maybe spend a little time experimenting with their theories for others on themselves.

You do have to wonder where the natural fertilizer comes from in a world full of vegetarians. Maybe Night Soil Nation can be a thing as us peasants turn over a healthy portion of our crops to the local tax farmer.

There is/ was enough fertilizer in the Dead Sea to feed the world. Maybe the next big war will be over food, not fuel for heat. But, I have been saying that since the Six Day War. :)
