George Rebane
Hoover Institution senior fellow and national commentator Shelby Steele has coined an appropriate tongue-in-cheek label for the gigantic lies that issue daily from our Left. It turns out that such lies may be viewed as “poetic truths” when broadcast by politicians and political activists. Poetic truths are "narratives that play down or disregard reality and facts to advance a favored ideological position." The current claimant of the most audacious poetic truth is Ms Nusrat Choudhury (pictured), whose statement that “the killing of unarmed black men by police happens every day in America” patently qualifies (emphasis mine and Sen Kennedy’s).
She maintained the correctness of this statement to Sen John Kennedy who questioned her during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that revealed her (lack of) qualifications to become a federal judge pursuant to having been nominated by the nation’s First Incompetent, President Bumblebrain himself. (more here)
When the dissemination of prime-time, first-rate whoppers comes up for discussion, our leftwing neighbors, both national and local, volubly maintain that both sides are at least equally guilty, with the Republicans dispensing the majority. By any comparative listing of such poetic truths (aka Big Lies), the contest is not even close, nor has it ever been. Historically socialists are the big liars, for that is the requirement for their public square bamboozles to gain any traction in governance. Today’s examples overwhelm –
‘Our southern border is secure, there is no border crisis’,
‘Crime rates are not up, there is no urban crime wave in America’,
‘Increasing taxes will not exacerbate the ongoing stagflation’,
‘Increasing taxes will grow the economy’,
‘Tax rates do not affect investment and productivity’,
'You can keep your doctor ...',
'Obamacare will reduce national healthcare costs',
‘Fossil fuels are bad and unnecessary; our energy needs can be met entirely by renewables’,
'America is better off being energy-dependent on foreign suppliers,'
‘Illegal immigration and illegal aliens in the workforce are necessary for economic growth’,
‘Capitalism and minimally regulated markets are arbitrary, cruel, and don't work’,
‘Men and women are exactly the same, making sexual distinction racist and unnecessary’,
‘Christians are intolerant’,
‘Trump’s collusion with the Russians swung the 2016 election’,
‘The tenets of Critical Race Theory are not taught in our K-12 schools’,
‘Merit based education (especially in STEM subjects) is racist’,
'Western culture is intrinsically racist',
‘America is a systemically racist country’,
‘Blacks don’t overwhelmingly kill blacks, cops gratuitously kill blacks,’
‘Government enforced equity motivates better than equal opportunity,’
‘Multi-cultural factionalism serves to unite America,’
… and on and on.
[10may22 update] Poetic truths also come in the complimentary form of the sound of silence. The evil party again demonstrated its true colors when both the administration and Democratic congressional leaders chose to remain silent on the historical travesty of compromising SCOTUS deliberations by leaking a draft of the forthcoming ruling on the continued federal involvement on abortions. The leak, if allowed to become a precedent so prevalent in other governmental branches, departments, agencies, … will completely politicize the last vestige of non-political functions of our federal government. The Democrats quickly doubled down on their ‘ascent by silence’ with a chorus of Big Lies about the impact of the upcoming Roe v Wade ruling that would range all the way from summarily prohibiting abortions in the land, to banning every other social activity that today we are free to perform – e.g. gay marriage. The poetic truths Democrats perpetrate on the poor and the poorly informed knows no end.
As always, Democrats are invited to counter.
If social media won’t do the heavy lifting for the Great White Father in Washington, then it is time for Big Bro to step in and do the job itself.

In a way I don't mind these overt attempts to surveil and manipulate people on the internet.
The more obvious it all is, the more everyone will autocorrect the things they are exposed to. We'll descend into Homo Sovieticus, but no one will believe the newspaper. The quality of jokes between friends will increase. MSM will continue to lose whatever status they still had. The US can have it's own Baghdad Bob in the form of Scary Poppins.
Also, it'll drive people into designing and deploying properly private designs for social media on the internet with as little dependency on single points of failure as possible.

@ 8:43 am. VDH:
“So this cannibalistic woke revolution is no Wobbly mine take-over, no 1960s Woodstock, not even a Black Panther, Weatherman, or Symbionese Liberation Army violent spasm. Instead, wokeism is so institutionalized that, like the Soviet Party or the adherents of Mao’s little red book, joining the virtue-signaling wokesters is seen as a smart career move. Going woke is a bully’s paradise, an indemnity against a past ill-considered tweet or a future peccadillo. Indeed, it is quasi-religious groupthink proselytizing.”

It all seems perfectly reasonable. 20:20 hindsight and all.
There's probably a father/son cycle at work (Turchin talks about this a fair amount). Basically, cultures become warlike every other generation as people forget what it was like. A Soviet general in the 1950-1960s oversaw battles that made Ukraine look like a brawl in a parking lot, the current ones not so much.
Also, a web-supercharged secular religion can easily become more and more aggressive. There's a peer-driven feedback loop.
Also also, I strongly suspect that societies that are in turmoil will tend to expand their destructive capabilities outward.
If you'd like a flavor of what a not-unusual young adult US-citizen thinks about matters, just browse a bit. https://old.reddit.com/r/politics/
They make any Viva Ukraine war boosterism printed on this blog look like the purest sort of peacenik.

STL Today: " Editorial: The day could be approaching when Supreme Court rulings are openly defied " (editors note: it's odd that the ruling is about getting rid of a ruling, rather hard to 'defy')tc.

This is not being taught in schools. La Raza in the classrooms.
‘Santa Barbara School Officials Resign Following CRT, ‘Grooming’ Scandal’
“…..The teachers union has blamed poor leadership by the superintendent. But Santa Barbara was also the site of educational scandals rivaling the famous ones in Loudoun County, Virginia, and it is in many ways where the battle over CRT began in 2017.”…..
“Before Harmachis was fired in 2020 — nearly three years after he was charged — he preached his militant beliefs to a captive audience of students in a classroom adorned with pictures of communist killers like Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. He took his adopted surname from the name of a god worshiped by an ancient Egyptian cult, and worked to exclude Jews from the status of oppressed people in California’s state-wide curriculum.
Before the incident that led to his criminal conviction — in which Maria says he grabbed her buttocks and bit her ear while making sexual statements — he had repeatedly been accused of other misconduct, including against a boy who enraged him by wearing a shirt related to Israel. But each time, instead of being fired he was put on paid leave for years“

Whoof. A person's finger has to fairly fly to the 'reader view' button on their browser to read those modern websites.
Anyhow, 'Matef Harmachis' (aka Leigh Barker). I would guess not so much a La Razan as he is one of those driven Pan-African dudes convinced that the pyramids were built with magic antigravity soul brother power. God knows there's plenty of mummy DNA to show just what was what back in the day, but it's a fiction I always found kind of charming.
My own working theory is that public K-12 is a lost cause in a lot of places. The Crazytown teachers and administrators are like skunks under the shed, shoo out one and another just moves in. The rot seems deep enough that you'd have to destroy the village in order to save it. A person could probably apply the mathematics of epidemics to the spread of wokeness in some institutions, simply quarantining the most egregious case doesn't stop the virus.
Posted by: scenes | 17 May 2022 at 07:05 AM
K-12 in Kali is a lost cause... even Charter Schools in Nirvana County.
We need the Stanford-9 based STAR exams back to even begin to remediate what's happened to public education in the state.

Georgia early voting shatters records despite election reforms Dems labeled 'voter suppression'
Georgia early voting outpaces 2018 and 2020 elections despite passing election security law
Georgia has seen 539,297 people cast ballots as of Tuesday, far outpacing the 182,684 by this point in the 2018 midterm primary elections, according to data compiled by Georgia Votes.
Republicans argued that the bill would both secure future elections in the state while making it easier to vote, implementing an ID requirement for absentee ballot requests in addition to mandating three weeks of early voting with availability on weekends.
But the law was widely panned by critics, with President Biden calling the legislation the return to the days of "Jim Crow."
"At a time when parts of our country are backsliding," Biden said at the time. "The days of Jim Crow, passing laws that harken back to the era of poll taxes, when Black people were made to guess how many beans — how many jelly beans in a jar, or count the number of bubbles in a bar of soap before they could cast their ballot."
"I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement at the time.
"Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box," he continued. "Fair access to voting continues to have our game’s unwavering support."
That move was supported by former Democratic State Rep. Stacy Abrams, a voting rights advocate running in Georgia's gubernatorial election, who said she was "proud" of the league's stance "on voting rights."
But the economic impact on Abram's home city of MLB's decision was vast, with the league's all-star game in the past generating close to $90 million for the city that hosts it.
The Abrams campaign, MLB and the White House did not immediately respond to a Fox News request for comment.

BillT: " Woke capitalism is rational, but it is also unsustainable."
Maybe 'marginally rational'.
It's an interesting theory, but I think the key movement might have been in what 'capitalism' really means in the US at this point.
In the post-war period, most of the movers 'n shakers likely came from heavy industry and manufacturing in the midwest, with executives largely chosen from the production or design end of the companies.
What with offshoring, automation, and the growth of the byte as both product and store of wealth, the money moved and centralized on the coasts in the copyright, banking, and surveillance advertising business. The wealth in dealing with physical goods moved from makers to distribution like Walmart and Amazon. You can argue that Walmart is not coastal, but control has moved to a combination of heirs (always more liberal) and investment bankers.
What old school production that is left has also moved into the thrall of major investors rather than founders or hands-on management. Few, yet larger companies whose stock is run from a few urban centers will always favor authoritarians and harm both freedom and competitive markets.
You could even argue that widespread and automatic purchase of stocks, including government subsidies (401k/IRA) is part of the problem. Capital flow moves from private business to huge public corporations.
I'd say there's been a sort of 'Great Replacement' of what actually constitutes business.
