[California’s 2021 population shrank for the second year in a row. (here) Our local leftwingers have continued to ignore this phenomenon in the large, and most certainly deny its most proximal cause that can be remedied by rolling back the atrocious tax and regulatory policies with which our one-party monopoly legislature has burdened the once Golden State, and continues to do so unabated. Reporting on this, the lamestream media (e.g. NPR) explains to its audiences that all this is due only to lower birthrates, Covid deaths, and not enough ‘immigration’ (aka influx of illegal aliens). Nowhere is mentioned the ongoing Great California Exodus of businesses and workers numbering in the hundreds of thousands annually. The state’s Democrats continue to count on their double dummy constituents to keep them in office and pay no attention to those behind the curtain who have put California at the bottom in about every measured QoL category. gjr]

Apparently so. Do not resist. What I don’t like about jumping out the window when someone breaks into my humble abode is each time I do that, I have to replace the window screen. Some window screens do not simply pop off without adrenaline induced brute force. I ain’t the kind to hide behind worthless dry wall. :)

re BillT 1019am - If we are to be "up to the challenge", then some recommend an added level of insurance by placing a 'throwaway' in the hand of the just departed intruder. I understand the police have subscribed to such insurance for decades. But how does a law-abiding citizen obtain a reliable throwaway? Ah, the complexities of maintaining your home as a castle.

Dr. Rebane
That’s why you have two guns. One to shoot the intruder and one to place in his hand and proof that he stole your gun off the little table inside the front door. You had no choice when he picked up the first defense gun at that point. Whatever you do, don’t let him get outside…in CA.

Oh yeah. Then put some bullets in the chamber of the empty gun. Oh course your fingerprints are all over it cause it’s your gun he picked up! But, best to make sure he isn’t just some drunk not knowing where he is at oraware of his surroundings and walking around lost and who happened to walk up to your door and let himself right on in. Happened to me once. Guy just was at the door and started to come in and I told him to get away from the door a take a step back. He was about 24, out of his mind drunk and looking for his buddy. Get this. I told him he was at the wrong place and I don’t know anyone named by his buddy’s name and the dude starting arguing with me and said he is not leaving until I showed him where his buddy lives!
Things started to escalate quick and just as I was about to shove him down the front stairs, I looked in his eyes. He was no treat. He didn’t know where he was and needed help to find his buddy. I walked with him out to the street and pointed to two houses away with a driveway to that leads to some bungalows in back. Told him the check down there. He walked off. Glad I did not hurt him……..his eyes told me he did not have malice.

Best bit:
"This middle way, then, is no philosophical fence rail, long fields stretching out from each side, or above the fray. No, here’s where heads butt and ideas collide along a line of scrimmage where courage is required, all our notions tested and often enough bruised or broken."

Truth is that periodicals and newspapers are dying and are bummed at their lack of impact. There's the occasional scooplet, but that'll be just one more data item in the Great Internet Thunderdome.
The other amusing truth is that there are scads of amateur writers who are better than the pro news people, it's really not that rare a skill. Given the tendency for modern periodicals to hire woke kids on the cheap, I'd say that traditional media is accelerating their own demise.

I ran into the MAGA King post while searching for ultramaga and darkmaga artwork. There's plenty of both out there.
The cool thing about 'ultramaga' (the lead balloon floated by POTUS) is that it was immediately picked up by Trump forces for funny art and hat/t-shirt sales. Oh well. The Democrats are hell on wheels at burning down buildings but suck at memes.
An interesting aside to this is the continuing 'dead internet' concept going on at Google. Search for 'ultramaga' images, and all you'll get is CNN with the Bidenmuppet doing it's thing and hat/t-shirt ecommerce. Search engines have shrunk to basically MSM and stuff-for-sale. Just see how few pages of results show up anymore if you dig down a bit. Something odd is going on under the covers.

I see you're a follower of Catilin Johnstone, a self described Libertarian from Australia.
She wrote this concerning the situation in Ukraine:

"Do you agree with her on this? "
Yes.
Simply search for news articles on Ukraine prior to about 2020 and mostly prior to 2014. Do a bit of research, it's not hard, really.
It's been stated as an overt goal by some of the foreign policy mafia. No real 'conspiracy' needed ('conspiracy' implies 'bullshit' of course). There's been an insane amount of hinky doings in Ukraine by the US over the last decade+.
The whole thing has been smothered by the full court press of propaganda.
So, will you answer a question of mine someday? I'll keep it in the bank.
Posted by: scenes | 12 May 2022 at 12:15 PM
moi: 'yes'.
Having said that, the thing that really matters is whether the Russians think that's the case, and that's an easy find in older news articles.
Now that it's out in the open:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/04/25/russia-weakened-lloyd-austin-ukraine-visit/
You can make a few cases:
. That the Ukrainian elite wants to drag the whole world into their war, regardless of what happens. They'll do/say anything to avoid defeat.
. That the Russians will drag the whole world into war if you push them hard enough. They might well come out in a comparatively stronger position once the radiation clears. At least the hivemind will survive.
. The Victoria Nulands of the world simply don't give a shit how close they play this whole thing.
. President Potato is an idiot.
It's the perfect storm. Maybe we'll be left with President Admiral Rachel Levine holding the ship together.

The people who want elected gigs the most are often the worst choice, but it's hard to overcome the singleminded drive of someone doing God's Work while giving their ego access to the big microphone. A few words with she/her current coworkers would be interesting but unlikely to be available.
I imagine she/her will win. A bit of name recognition including lots of access to the local MSM lately combined with a ready-made constituency of activist harridans who see a fellow traveler is a pretty good leg up.
It should be interesting watching the shrieking for Sheriff's Office security and appearances on larger news outlets if any Republicans poke their noses in the door. It's like having your own Soros-appointed DA in Mayberry.

“It’s like having your own Soros-appointed DA in Mayberry.”
Full disclosure: scenes articulated in one sentence what I have been thinking for some time now in our one newspaper town. Clear, concise, complete. So, yeah, I am biased.
Heidi Hall came to town with a pic of her with Nancy as one of the Pelosi girls that completed their lib training. I have searched and searched for that picture the Union ran back then to no avail. Scrubbed clean, gone. All I found out was she hired a firm in Seattle to run the campaign. She worked for the State on the water quality board or State clean air folks…..
Charlie Brown ran for the Congressional District and was spotted sitting next to Pelosi at the place he was giving a speech p or debate in Auburn. After his defeat, Charlie Brown went to Washington to work for the Dems….er…..the Dem Administration in some department.
Guess Heidi Hall is smart enough to learn quick that this ain’t Sac and pictures of her and Pelosi may not have the desired effect she was seeking as an intro to the local public. Or did she know her constituents in her BOS district and that was a great icebreaker?
Out of town people with out of town donors. Adona IS like having a Soros backed DA in Mayberry.

from the 9:59PM Daily Quotes:
"“The more I study the history of intellectuals, the more they seem like a wrecking crew, dismantling civilization bit by bit — replacing what works with what sounds good.” —Thomas Sowell"
It seems to me that it's only a certain type of intellectual at work here. There's a particular sort whose stock-in-trade is building scaffolds of language, perhaps an internally consistent word salad, that leads to a virtual world that needs implementin'. The fact that a)it collides with organically arrived at systems, b)it's likely to be wrong, and c)is an emotional need justified with pretend-logic, never stops anyone.
It's our own damn fault for funding these people, they could just as easily be spinning their stories on the transmission line at Chevrolet.
---------------
I was considering Soros DA's and the interest for their installation. Aside from the naked attempts at power by aiding and abetting a street army, it seems to me that it hits smack dab into an interesting tension in society. It goes like so...simply put, you need to over-punish to produce relatively safe societies if you lack a well-behaved homogeneous culture with strong peer pressure.
So, you either have seemingly unfair punishment applied for street crime, should you jail someone for six months for shoplifting? Without it, you have industrial-scale shoplifting. It looks to moi that there's really no workable compromise position between 'fairness' and effectiveness, especially when some groups are given a pass because of 'historical injustice'.
Until the pendulum swings, I'd simply expect passive security measures to expand (fortresses in cities, or moving outside of them) plus private security pushing the boundaries of the law.

Those of us who learned our readin', ritin', and 'rithmetic in those days get numerous daily chuckles when we hear today's college educated with advanced degrees continue to misuse 'I' in their compound objects - e.g. 'She likes him and I.'

Joe Biden's mentality. Watching the news tonight, we again saw a number of video clips of our president's statements from behind the podium. It is literally mind-numbing to watch that man perform in the public forum. Has anyone any recollection or record of a POTUS more ignorant, dumb, and butt-stupid than Joe Biden? It is incomprehensible for me to believe that our republic can survive when such a large share of our fellow Americans believe this mental cretin is the better choice for any office in the land.

Democrats’ Real Liability in the House
“Joe Biden marked an unexpected and unwanted milestone this month when he won a clear popular-vote majority in the presidential election but saw his party suffer substantial losses in the House of Representatives.
That unusual combination of results—the first time it’s happened in more than 120 years—crystallizes the core challenge Democrats face in translating their consistent victories in the popular vote into congressional power.”

I suppose it just proves that for every action, there's an equal and opposite mostly peaceful reaction. I suspect that the current news half-life for Payton Gendron will be a lot longer than it was for Darrell Edward Brooks though.
If the wypipo get it in their heads to build their own Crazytown, it'll be a good time to make sure that your canned goods are stocked and your relationship with the neighbors is in order.

That seems fair. I would think that the newspaper got it's information from the person favored by Diaz to do God's Work and then simply jotted down what they knew.
There's usually some mafia or the other backing any candidate for those jobs and if it happens to be a national one that's just the nature of the times. Activism and quasi-religious belief systems seem hard to avoid at this point. No doubt the other two candidates are being excoriated as chestfeeder hatin' election deniers, the outrage endorphin rush burns so good.

Merciful scenes. Yes, Darrell Brooks Jr. popped in my noggin as well.
Those daddy issues really come out of left field….bigly. It’s hard to be a Phil Donahue man in 2022. Did notice that the shooter hated FOX News. At least Jig Wiggles has that in common with the Buffalo shooter.
Do you know who the number one target of White Supremacists in the USA is? A black guy? A gay man? A black woman? No, not Asians. It is Ben Shapiro, the Jew. Number one target. Jig Wiggles hates Ben Shapiro also. That’s two things he has in common with the White Supremacists.
Buffalo reminds me of the dude that shot up the crowded Mosque in Australia. And the dude who shot up the El Paso Walmart. All three wrote manifestos that has this insidious Green Radical Agenda. Make to the Earth Movement recycled again and again.
FYI, the first domestic terrorism folks labeled such as a group by the FBI were the radical violent Eco-Terrorists. ‘National Environmentalists’ is a new one. Anyway…..most of that tree spiking gang that torched new car lots and subdivisions under construction now work for the Biden Administration.

re: Payton Gendron (an amazing name if nothing else)
Just further proof that there's a lot of insanity abroad in the land.
There's a whole generation raised without the prospect of useful work and careers, no opportunity for starting and raising a family, exposed to highly addictive 24/7 advertising/propaganda.
Naturally, it's fun to play world changing revolutionary until shit gets real. There's a chemical high from wearing uniforms (all-black or camo) and feeling The Lord course through you. The ruling class even picks up on the panic with meeting rooms a'plenty inventing good ideas for one and all. Next up will be national restrictions on purely defensive measure like protective vests and lotsa web surveillance and 'misinformation' control from Scary Poppins.
The best answer is to avoid idiots as often as possible. Anyone carrying a sign is first on the list followed by That Guy who neeners on about how things oughtta be.

Oh poo - too bad for you lefty haters. Turns out the Buffalo murderer is a lefty! A 'green' lefty!
The gov of New Yawk is plenty upset and lets everyone know she wants the tax payers to make sure he has a free meal ticket along with free medical and dental while he gets a college degree and enjoys sex for the rest of his life.
The feds want to kill him not because he murdered people but because of him offing people that are more important than you.
At least I haven't heard anyone spout the "too many people killed" line so popular with dim-witted politicians. I'm always keen to hear what they believe the correct number of folks are you can kill before it gets to be "too many".
The good gov is pretty sure that state censorship will do the trick:
"In the wake of the shooting, Hochul said her state is taking "proactive measures" to monitor social media platforms and called on internet companies to boost their monitoring of hate speech that "comes under the guise of white supremacy and terrorism," including by hiring more people and changing their algorithms to more quickly identify hate speech."
'Proactive measures'
And those would be?
But only against 'white supremacy' - other violent extremists like Muslims are OK.
Say - what happened to the black dude that mowed down a bunch of white persons? Are the feds gonna kill him?
Nothing like equal justice under the law.

From what I've read so far, the Buffalo killer wanted to be a civil engineer like mommy and daddy but you need to be able to do thinking and logic and math and stuff but this poor bastard wasn't up to the task.
He thought there were too many non-whites and apparently thought getting rid of 10 would be helpful?
A thorough examination of his life would probably be interesting. He was a loser and he knew it. May as well just kill a few folks you don't know and be done with it. He was too cowardly to even have it out with the cops. If we are going to lower our freedoms down to where the bottom of society like this are safe from bad thoughts then we may as well tear up the Constitution. Mommy and daddy had their careers - they had no clue what they had raised.
