Illinois Gov Pritzker typified the profound ignorance that most (all?) leftwing politicians have about guns, ‘gun violence’, and the effect of existing gun regulations. In signing a law banning the sale and possession ‘ghost guns’ (AR-15 style untraceable componentized semi-automatic rifles) he made this audacious claim that was not rebutted by any of the media; to wit, “… even our revolutionaries did not use assault rifles, they used muskets.” The idiot governor has no idea that muskets were the assault guns of the 18th century.
[7jul22 update] Over 550 colleges have hired for-profit education vendors for delivering their online programs under the schools’ names. The students seldom know that their courses are delivered by employees of companies like 2U instead of the universities’ academics. It’s an attractive fire-and-forget source of revenues for the schools that get 20% of online ‘bootcamp’ tuitions and 40% of semester course tuitions from the vendors. Bootcamps go for upwards of $10K, and semester courses for more than $60K. Modern school daze. (more here)
The Victims of Communism Museum in Washington opened last month. It “unsparingly illuminates the most murderous ideology of modern times.” The museum was funded by donors and the governments of Hungary, Poland, Estonia, and Latvia. Communist regimes have killed well over 100 million of their own citizens, and today 1.5 billion people still live under communism. Unfortunately, more countries, including our own, today seek to increase their governments’ role in “abolishing private property and controlling the means of production and distribution of goods and services.” “Under the pretense of classless, egalitarian society, Communist regimes rely on force, use brutality, and repress speech, religion, assembly, and all rights and freedoms.” (more here)
[8jul22 update] The Democrats are desperately trying to divert the country’s attention from the ongoing foreign policy mess, the open border crisis, exploding crime rates, soaring inflation, shelves empty of critical goods, historically high gasoline prices, ongoing Covid muddle, fetid cities filled with vagrant encampments, dysfunctional public schools, pending recession, and announced policies guaranteed make each of these social catastrophes worse. The only diversions they have left now is to blanket the country with lies about J6, SCOTUS, and “the best economy in our history”.
Abortion is a latent right, even though it isn’t in the Constitution, so argue all pro-abortionists and progressives. A favorite supportive citation is Madison’s inclusion of the 9th Amendment in which he wanted to make sure that unenumerated rights would henceforth not be excluded. The big problem this argument launched is who decides what the next unenumerated right is, and how many of these are there waiting to be ‘discovered’ and codified by the politicians who happen to then have control the government gun. We now have a culture in which new rights are immaculately conceived daily out of thin air, rights that inevitably reduce freedoms for the rest of us.
[9jul22 update] The dollar will be destroyed to pay off or at least allow the Treasury to keep borrowing to service the $23T+ national debt held by the public ($30T+ total). This has been covered many times over the years in these pages (e.g. here and here). Now the Mises Institute is also putting out papers that warn us of this (here). Destruction will occur through sky-high inflation which allows the debt to be serviced in ever cheaper nominal dollars. As I see it, the real news here is that we Americans are simply too stupid to be concerned, let alone do anything about it at the ballot box. Witness the comment stream below.
Poetry more relevant today than ever to illuminate the upcoming mid-term election.
[11jul22 update] Repeal the 2nd Amendment is the latest brainchild of communist filmmaker Michael Moore (here), who proposes adoption of a 28th Amendment that would explicitly do that, and make civilian ownership and use of firearms a joke that would please only those Americans born with serfdom in their veins, aka Democrat voters.
[12jul22 update] So how to interpret the Trump/Biden polls for 2024. Depending on the poll and its qnaire, it’s hard to really tell what the legitimate backing is for either man’s 2024 candidacy. (more here) I estimate that half of the right and leftwingers are contras – the rightwingers wanting Biden to run, and the leftwingers wanting Trump to run on the theory that either man would be the loser in any feasible match-up. Me? I definitely want Biden to run again, and Trump to leave the field and lose his 'the 2020 election was stolen', no matter the merits of the argument. So now you know how people like me would respond to pollsters, but that doesn’t help knowing that the, say, pro-Trump respondents would also include a hefty share of the man’s political devotees.
‘Bumblebrain bows out before 2022 election’ predicts Athena Thorne of PJ Media while crowing that she is the first to make this prediction (here). Sorry to burst the bubble of this Jenny-come-lately, but RR readers had already had this discussion more than a year ago and even entered into a monied bet in July 2021 on exactly when we would get a new president (here)
I did nothing of the sort, punch.

Doing sound as opposed to making sounds. An improvement for the people of Nevada County?

“You declared that I have no problem with these things and neither you nor I said that I see no harm in them. I see no benefit in telling you whether I support Trump and, along with your history of not answering others' questions, find myself unmotivated to answer yours. That may change if I knew why” —-MK
It’s being being interviewed time! Ok goodie. I hear ya knocking, but you can’t come in. Punchy’s idol Michael Moore is much more wokie than Psul, for sure. Just as Unmoored but not hip to the new vibes.
All around the nation such a strange vibration. If you’re coming to KVMR, make sure to wear a flower in your hairy armpits. Fort Pimple is ready to pop…TDS is not on the quick cure list. Didn’t this post include the Lefty Dems will do anything and everything to take the focus off of the failed President Biden and his failed Administration. Biden is done. But, what about Trump!!!!! So, what about Trump. To old to run again, albeit Trump got and gets more done in two weeks or two days starting at 3:00 am than Biden could ever hope to accomplish in 3 years or 30 years. May, 2023. Maybe June. Hard to believe he can last another year. Time waits for no one.
Hmmm. See the lastest newest RCP poll? Lower, lower, low. So low you can see the mercury in the bottom of the gravel on an old fastened thermometer.

Gentlemen, gentlemen. Why should I have to wait am to drive up to Nevada City to be there by 11:00 am or wait til special limited order Thursday fish tacos in GV when I can order it from any good restaurant in the US and have my fish tacos delivered to my door by Fed Ex? I don’t want to pollute our environment with my little old 24 cam V-6. Forget Tex-Mex, lay those fish tacos on me, Miami. Send me some more, pronto, San Antone. Add a cup of fish bone broth for the dogs.
So, Punch is off to string cable and tape it down good across the sidewalk for tonight’s Victorian Christmas? Boy, just once I would love to throw some firecrackers on Broad Street, in a safe and sane opening in the crowd. Just once. Never knew it is illegal nowadays till Fish broke the bad news to me. Talk of the town. It’s not like launching cherry bombs or M-80’s with a good slingshot high over the 420 Brigade festivities.
Loot Congressional Offices? ‘Loot’ he says. Last it looked, looting has been made legal since June, 2020. Perhaps ransack an office or two would be a better description. It’s not like anybody left a rare nice smooth consistent movement on Pelosi’s desk. That would be malicious mischief. A long firm consistent movement (besides being a work of art and freedom of artist expression, they are easy to clean up. Just roll that log right off.
Now, diarrhea is another story and I find most inappropriate and beyond my moral character.
Back to work. If I had those construction lights on tripods I would floodl the zone and be a ditch digger all night long. Cooler, not heat exhaustion, less water to consume. Door bell rings. Gotta go. Fish tacos just arrived. Some place outside Denver…has a renowned fish taco migrant community. Bye.

Los Angeles County DA Gascon is disbanding a group of victim advocates and prosecutors in the DA’s office who notify victims and their family members about their assailant's parole hearings, sources tell Fox News.
The Parole Unit, also known as the "Lifer Unit," will be disbanded by the end of the year. The move comes after Gascon has banned prosecutors from attending parole hearings.

"The move comes after Gascon has banned prosecutors from attending parole hearings."
I'm surprised he hasn't banned them from criminal trials.
Them prosecutors are the next thing after cops. Part of that whitey-ism thang where ya gotta follow all the rules and stuff.

No surprise it really is the ship of fools sinking fast -
In the executive summary, the authors detail some key findings in the report. First and foremost, 62 percent of Biden’s top political appointees and staffers “who deal with economic policy, regulation, commerce, energy and finance have virtually no business experience.”
What’s more, only one out of eight Biden officials has what the authors deem “extensive business experience,” and the average level of business experience across the Biden administration is about 2.4 years. The median years of business experience among Biden’s top appointees is zero, since so few have any experience in the private sector, and the “vast majority of the Biden economic/commerce team members are professional politicians, lawyers, community organizers, lobbyists, or government employees.”

re July 12 update, Bumblebrain bows out.
‘New York Times to Biden — Time to Go!’
“The backlash against Mr. Biden and desire to move in a new direction were particularly acute among younger voters,” said the Times. “In the survey, 94 percent of Democrats under the age of 30 said they would prefer a different presidential nominee.”…….
Biden’s age, dismal approval rating and seeming inability to inspire confidence in the party’s ranks have created an extraordinary situation in which there’s no ironclad belief that he’ll run for a second term, no universal agreement that he should and a growing roster of Democrats whose behavior can be read as preparation to challenge or step in for him. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”
“Democrats can’t have their knives out the way they do now. Our president is already bleeding plenty.”
Bottom line: The stories in Sunday’s and Monday’s Times detailing the physical and political disabilities of Biden suggest that establishment Democrats are of a mind to say to Joe:
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant, but, go, man, go!”

Terrorist cuddlers -
In a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, obtained by Fox News Digital, Republicans on the committee say the agency "has implemented a new policy requiring Members of Congress to obtain signed privacy release waivers from criminal non-U.S. citizens, including those illegally in the United States, and submit that waiver to the Department before the Department will provide the Committee with general information about the threats posed by such individuals."
They say the policy was communicated to them after they requested briefings about two alleged plots. The first was an alleged ISIS-inspired plot to assassinate former President George W. Bush, and the second an alleged July 4 mass shooting plot by two illegal immigrants.
