George Rebane
This is really a critique of the American electorate, and how low it has sunk in its capacity to discern and vote for political leaders sufficiently competent and principled to maintain our republic as the world's shining city on the hill – “A republic, if you can keep it.” B. Franklin.
I am simply astounded by the parade of incompetent, duplicitous, and just plain ignorant politicians that parade across our TV screens daily. My latest pique occurred yesterday when FN’s Trace Gallagher was interviewing Sec Energy Jennifer Granholm, specifically about the administration’s new Inflation Reduction Act bamboozle. (here) I have no idea why anyone would allow that woman to come before a live mic. She demonstrated no idea about what the Dems’ new law would do, and what Americans really care about as November approaches.
What she did corroborate is the Biden administration’s ongoing incompetence in everything it has touched since January 2021, and their ability to generate the most stupendous list of lies about what has happened and what is going on now. The term for this is ‘gaslighting’, and Team Bumblebrain is front and center daily taking advantage of an already poorly educated electorate by filling them with stuff that simply ain’t so. And the tragedy of it all is that it appears to be working.
Victor Davis Hanson covers the matter in the more germane details as only he can in his ‘The Worst and the Stupidest?’. Unfortunately, the only game in town opposing the evil anti-American Democrats are a bunch of mostly spineless Republicans who have little or no idea on how to appeal to the masses of main street Americans. Our border remains open to millions of illegals, crime is fostered by the justice system, foreign policy is in shambles on three critical fronts, black lives don’t matter, meritocracy is white supremacist, and our educational systems at all levels are being co-opted by neo-Marxists. The only remaining hope is that the existential pain in America’s wallets remains sufficiently intense so that people will seek something different at the ballot box this Fall.
[24aug22 update] Elizabeth Warren discovers that free money is popular. Pursuant to Bumblebrain’s cancelling of at least $10K of everyone’s student debt, she said, "Look, I’m not at all surprised that Mitch McConnell is attacking this. The reason he’s attacking it is because it is very, very popular. Popular among Democrats, independents, Republicans – popular. You know why? Because I don’t think there’s anybody left in America who doesn’t know somebody who is not struggling with student loan debt. This has become a part of our country now. People for whom their only sin was to want to try to get an education and not be in a family that could afford to write a check for it." After also claiming that it will be “good for our economy”, I have no idea why anyone would let her near an open mic. Well, maybe those Dem leaders who believe their constituents overwhelmingly are really, really stupid.
Fighting the impulse to be pedantic but you might want to fix this:

Dr. Rebane.
It will take a populist movement, which scares the living daylights of the Surveillance Security State. Iliberals
No good belly aching about R cheap suits that fold like the cheap suits they are and fight like a soggy pretzel. The only solution is a populist movement which they can not control. A movement that will get back back where we started a bit before Trump and let the voters in the various states clean out the trash. R trash, D trash, R’s first. Think we are back where the people started.
Punchy many moons ago dismissed Trump’s winning the WH as a populist movement. Actually, quite insightful. The Party ain’t going to take us there so its up to the millions upon millions of little guys to get the job done.
While I don’ t endear myself to the word ‘populist’ or ‘populist movement’ or held populists in high regard, I now be a populist. No one else we send to DC as a group seems willing to have the fortitude.
That’s my solution. It got moms across the nation to attend their first ever school board meeting. Whether my solution will work remains to be seen. We ‘the people’ have a hell of more votes than the bureaucratic state has…and that’s the only thing they cannot control.
PS: It’s time for Mitch to step up to the plate again. He is blowing perfect timing. They are sitting there out in the open, Mitch.

BT - good link. That led me to the one about 'liberal vs conservative' which I found to have a lot of false choices based on bad ideas.
https://quillette.com/2022/08/09/liberal-when-we-can-conservative-when-we-must/
I consider myself as a classic liberal and a conservative in the modern political sense. These are not incompatible at all. Letting people across the border en mass is not being 'liberal' at all. It is either being extreme libertarian (to the point of anarchy) or it is just a pure political play, depending on the individual allowing it.
The Dems would be ordering the Border Patrol to use machine guns to shoot women and children dead if they were flooding in from countries that would auger a massive shift to a population voting for Rs. They are not 'liberal' in any sense. The idea that as a land of plenty libs allow a flood of immigrants because we "have so much" is BS. We have laws and are obliged as a society to follow them. This is not contradictory to the idea of being a liberal in any way.
The bleeding hearts are just leftists plain and simple. "I want to help so let's make someone else pay the bill" - that's all it is.
When have any of the lefties that post here ever shown that they are willing to or are anticipating lowering their standard of living permanently so as to allow the full effect their pet left wing ideas to have force in our country? Never.
In fact, the whole idea of letting people flood in unchecked goes completely against their silly concepts of "environmentalism".
This is not conservative vs liberal - it is the modern logical man vs the post modern self-based egoist.

‘Biden White House facilitated DOJ's criminal probe against Trump, scuttled privilege claims: memos’
"I have therefore decided not to honor the former President's 'protective' claim of privilege," acting National Archivist Debra Steidel Wall wrote Trump's team in May.
“Long before it professed no prior knowledge of the raid on Donald Trump's estate, the Biden White House worked directly with the Justice Department and National Archives to instigate the criminal probe into alleged mishandling of documents, allowing the FBI to review evidence retrieved from Mar-a-Lago this spring and eliminating the 45th president's claims to executive privilege, according to contemporaneous government documents reviewed by Just the News.”

By May, Su conveyed to the Archives that President Joe Biden would not object to waiving his predecessor’s claims to executive privilege, a decision that opened the door for DOJ to get a grand jury to issue a subpoena compelling Trump to turn over any remaining materials he possessed from his presidency.

Black students are not enrolled in as high a percentage on college campuses as whites. So blacks must be particularly pissed that here is free money for the taking, and blacks will be unable to participate as much as they do in other welfare schemes.
I am awaiting the other shoe to fall. Look for Joe to declare an adder, that will make up for white supremacy treatment of blacks. It will be on the honor system. If you, a black person, did not obtain a loan and did not go to college, how much should you expect other U.S. citizens to pay you? Must be less than 150% of the amount that you WOULD have borrowed had you gone to college.

Here's California Flooring It to the 'Clean' Energy Future ... With Its Transmission Slipping Badly
CALIFORNIA CITY -- California's precariously out-of-date hybrid power grid can't handle the state's growing amounts of solar and wind energy coming online, with system managers already forcing repeated cutbacks in renewables and a continued reliance on conventional energy to keep the grid stable, according to state data.
The shortcomings of the transmission grid, which energy consultants in this bellwether state have warned about for years, raise the prospect that marquee products of the growing battery economy such as electric vehicles – "emission free" on the road – will be recharged mainly from traditional electricity-generating power plants: energy from fossil fuels, some of it from out of state.
Writ large, the transmission problem threatens the zero-carbon future envisioned by green advocates nationwide. “We’re headed toward duplicate systems whose only benefit is to permit the occasional use of ‘clean power,’” said Grant Ellis, an independent electrical engineering consultant in Texas.

I haven't seen this item addressed in the $10,000 student loan business.
See irs.gov, Topic No. 431:
"In general, if you have cancellation of debt income because your debt is canceled, forgiven, or discharged for less than the amount you must pay, the amount of the canceled debt is taxable and you must report the canceled debt on your tax return for the year the cancellation occurs."
Since this is a forgiveness of a legitimate loan, that would be counted as income that the debtors would have to declare as imputed income on their IRS forms next year. Those 80,000 agents may have their hands full tracking all of the $10K forgiveness.
Wait a minute though!!
Later in the same No. 431:
"EXCEPTIONS to Cancellation of Debt Income:"
"Any amounts discharged from certain federal, private or educational student loans."
But still, I don't know if Biden's exec order specifically allowed that this was an exception to certain forgiven loans counted as income.

Financial advisor said this forgiveness by the GOVT, of govt debt, would not be counted as income for a 1040. Loans from a BANK were not forgiven though.
This sleight-of-hand of forgiven debt, not being counted as income for a 1040, was hidden in one of the extensive spending bills passed in the last 18 months.
