[The chorus of financial mavens warning of the dollar’s destruction is growing. The cost to just service our exploding national debt is unsustainable. That means it’s growing so fast that it consumes an ever greater share of the federal budget AND the nation’s GDP. Those people concerned with this financial collapse are advised to reinvest in gold, silver, and prominent crypto currencies. Judging from past attempts to elicit discussion of this event, we have a very sanguine group of readers. Quoting a famous man, “What, me worry?” gjr]
"Those people concerned with this financial collapse are advised to reinvest in gold, silver, and prominent crypto currencies"
And most of those doing the advising are selling various and sundry vehicles for avoidance, thus illustrating the Dilbert principle... that investing is mostly the act of giving money to your stockbroker who then buys nice things for their family.

re George's and Gregory's comments:
And that becomes the bigger problem. As soon as enough people lose faith in the monetary system, they are no longer investing in ways that are productive (for the investor and the economy), but protective (for the investor).
Will metals be a safe haven? What if they do a repeat from the 30s and fix the prices.
Investing in real estate protects against a complete loss of your capital but you could still lose a lot and be stuck with a rise in insurance and prop tax costs.
All the old sayings apply:
It works until it doesn't - it starts to fail slowly and then quickly - etc.
I certainly don't expect any actual solution from the feds. They're not ever going to admit they were wrong.
And the general public is clueless - most are totally convinced the "rich" have all the money and if we just take it from them it will fix everything.
The national credit card is getting close to its limit and this isn't the 50s or 60s so we shouldn't count on getting a fresh one.
All we really have left is the hope that China screws up worse than we do.
The founding fathers gave us clear warning and we (collectively) ignored them.

"‘Beyond Redemption:’ Cornel West Says the Democrat Party is Unable to Meet the Needs of the Poor"
Dear Mr West - the Democrat Party never had any intention of meeting any actual "needs" of the poor.
What they need is a good education and a desire to be productive.
Good luck getting that from a Democrat.
Mr West, of course, is quite certain that even larger amounts of govt forced wealth transfer will do the trick.

As long as I was at the Hill -
Here's the latest 100 million dollar grift:
"Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and his daughter, former Fortune 500 CEO Heather Manchin, have pitched major donors on a $100 million project aimed at boosting centrist policies and politicians..."
And what are "centrist policies"?
"Heather Manchin told the WSJ. “We have been thinking about what can be done to bring people together.”"
Ah - they've been "thinking". Bully for them. I guess we don't get to know what these top secret policies are until they get their 100 million.
More humor:
"The WSJ spoke with several major donors who said they discussed the proposal with the Manchins, but said the Manchins have not made any specific requests and that donor meetings have consisted of “a vaguely defined future.”
Vaguely defined, my ass - they were quite specific. 100 million dollars.

Is the rate of the 'exploding national debt" under Biden greater than the nearly 7 Trillion that Trump rang up in his 4 years? Obama increased the debt by 7.5 trillion but that was in 8 years. In percentage of increase Reagan is the all time champ since Roosevelt with with 160% in 8 years.
https://www.investopedia.com/us-debt-by-president-dollar-and-percentage-7371225
The total national debt stood at $27.7 trillion on the day of Biden’s inauguration, and has increased by over $3 trillion since then, according to the Treasury Department.

My own portfolio contains considerably less than 5% in precious metals as recommended by financial mavens. But this doesn't mean that I will not increase this share significantly in the future.
Re the leftwingers' understanding of who increased our national debt by how much - to explain away this level of ignorance requires a considerable tome. Let's just say again that the global pandemic was a significant factor that the socialist do not understand and will never admit.

“From the moment he took charge of the bureau, Harry was aware of the weakness of his new position. A war on narcotics alone — cocaine and heroin, outlawed in 1914 — wasn’t enough,” author Johann Hari wrote in his book, “Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs.” “They were used only by a tiny minority, and you couldn’t keep an entire department alive on such small crumbs. By the time Biden came into office there was no reason at all to keep pumping out money and passing all those Dem vote-buying bills.

Not really Fish, nobody loves bureaucrats that I know of. Federal , state, local government employees might love their jobs and their bennies, resulting in all the unfunded liabilities we have. But I don't want bloated bureaucracies whose inertia results in making life more difficult for all Americans.
The heads of all those bureaucracies are no different than Anslinger, they just want to keep their budgets fat.
When Trump was first elected and all three branches of government were Republican run, and Republicans want to defund many existing bureaucracies, why didn't they force a government shutdown and axe a bunch of jobs???

Try as the might the public is rejecting the global warming orthodoxy and shunning electric cars for a ton of good reasons.
Supply of electric vehicles is far outstripping demand across the domestic UK market, forcing manufacturers to cut prices in an effort to attract disinterested drivers.
When it came to electric vehicles, it said supply had ballooned in a way that did not match demand, causing many manufacturers to cut prices to move stock.
“Recent increased supply of new electric vehicles appears to be exceeding retail demand, creating an imbalance in pipeline inventory coming into the key plate change month of September,” it said. “Manufacturers are reacting to this through the offer of discounted prices and supported finance rates to stimulate retail demand.

Army bases and prisons are needed. Of course they need to be trimmed but good luck.
We need to go through DC and clean house. There are several cabinet positions that can be eliminated or reduced and folded into another dept.
I'm sure at least 50% of what goes on in DC can be gotten rid of or turned over to the states. All wealth transfer payments, welfare and goodie giveaways should be eliminated from the fed govt and run by each state according to their fiscal ability and local preference. The feds should only be helping out when there is a natural disaster.

Talk about setting yourself up for failure -
To comply, New Hampshire needs to scrap its state law protecting its first-in-the-nation primary status and must expand access to early voting. But with Republicans in control of New Hampshire’s governor’s office and both houses of the state legislature, state Democrats have repeatedly argued that’s a non-starter.
There are plenty of Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire who see the upending of their leadoff positions as sour grapes from Biden, who finished a disappointing fourth in the 2020 Iowa caucuses and fifth in the New Hampshire primary, before a second-place finish in Nevada and a landslide victory in South Carolina propelled him towards the nomination and eventually the White House.

It's based on simple facts Gregory, facts that you chose to ignore. Once again, show me another President that has lost the House Senate and Presidency after one term in the 20th Century.
Losing the House and Senate is a fact Gregory, how can you deny it? Of course you are one of those that believe that Trump won the election despite there being NO evidence to prove that.

I bet you practiced that speech while standing on a bucket.

Trump didn't do that in the 20th Century, Punch. Didn't you notice?
There has been little movement in seats in the House and the Senate... we shall see what happens in 2024.
Posted by: Gregory | 02 September 2023 at 11:21 AM
Anything can happen in the future Gregory. Historically Trump is the biggest political loser since the 1800's. Thanks for correcting me on the scope of Trumps legacy as the biggest loser. Actually he's the biggest loser in the 20th and 21st centuries. You got it right about that.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 02 September 2023 at 12:48 PM
Obama lost way more seats in the Congress. And the Presidency didn't get kept in the family... it took another 4 years to crank up the machine to dump Trump.
No punch. You lost.
Posted by: Gregory | 02 September 2023 at 01:19 PM
Obama was re-elected and served two complete terms Gregory Trump was dumped after one term. Also he left the economy is much better shape than when he found it after the Bush disaster. Trump wrecked the economy in only one term after inheriting a solid growing economy trom Obama. There is no comparison Gregory.
Gregory
Who inherited the better economy Obama from Bush or Trump from Obama?
Posted by: Paul Emery | 02 September 2023 at 02:05 PM
Trump was dumped after people like you ran after him with torches and pitchforks... after 6 years, he slowed down.
Obama lost a bunch of Senate and House seats. The biggest loser.
Posted by: Gregory | 02 September 2023 at 02:26 PM
Golly, Paul... everyone I know thinks Trump's economy was pretty good until COVID hit and Dem's didn't want to go to work no mo'.

Gosh and Golly Gregory everybody knows he inherited a good economy and left a mess for Biden to clean up. Trump instigated and signed all the financial aid packages you are referring to. He even signed the first extension.
"President Trump on Sunday night signed a massive coronavirus relief and spending package, relenting on a measure he had called a "disgrace" days earlier.
The legislation, which combines $900 billion in COVID-19 aid with government funding through September 2021, was passed by large majorities in both chambers of Congress on Dec. 21 — only to see Trump blindside legislators the next day and blast the bill.
In a statement Sunday night, Trump said lawmakers will pursue some of his sought-after changes."

Gosh and golly?
The PBS piece was a year after COVID started making its rounds and teachers and other unionized public employees began refusing to work.
So... you think Trump was trying to sabotage the economy... while he was trying to remain President?
Really?
Posted by: Gregory | 02 September 2023 at 04:02 PM
He signed it. Had nearly $7 trillion in debt. No one to blame but himself and his total incompetence.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 02 September 2023 at 05:21 PM
And the price of not signing... was collapse of the economy?
Posted by: Gregory | 02 September 2023 at 05:32 PM
Trump wrecked the economy in only one term after inheriting a solid growing economy trom Obama.
Shallowness of the change layer in the guitar case.....irrefutable evidence.
Posted by: fishanthrope | 02 September 2023 at 06:44 PM
Paul - "No one to blame but himself and his total incompetence."
Yep - he wrote the bill, and threatened all the congressmen with the gallows if they didn't vote for it. Held their children at gun point.
The Dems and Paul Emery begged him not to do it - you all remember Paul pleading on George's blog that we do what we can to stop the bailout - remember?
What a maroon.

Smells like another scam with a ftx spin along with a dollop of jum jones. LOL -
The “Angel” singer is so sure about Africa that he has planned the construction of a new city in Senegal. He launched his settlement in 2020 with the cooperation of the country of Senegal with the hopes of creating a high-tech community with an economy based on his “Akoin” cryptocurrency.
Akon — who has been repeatedly accused of mistreating women and in 2008 was seen on video punching a female fan in the face — was recently heard selling his pan-African city idea on a podcast called REVOLT. During the show, the singer claimed that the African continent is the “holy grail” for black Americans because its people need “everything.”
“Africa is in a position where if African Americans take position now, every single African American would be a millionaire without even thinking twice because there’s nothing that’s not needed over there,” Akon said. “So, you guys come with the discipline, you guys come with the knowledge, you come with the resources.”
In the late 2000s, Akon was busted for exaggerating his criminal record to market himself. He claimed to have been a “notorious” car theft ringleader who got locked up for almost five years in prison. However, The Smoking Gun combed through his records to find one conviction for gun possession with a sentence of three years’ probation — and then several months in prison for alleged auto theft before prosecutors dropped all charges against him.

"Make a note of how they aren’t “advocating for a complete erasure of cars.” Instead, they want the government to “re-direct the U.S. from relying on private motor vehicles.” The word “private” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. In other words, they won’t be getting rid of all cars. Just your cars. Your private cars. Just like they won’t be getting rid of all planes. The military will still need jets (sold by the military-industrial complex and paid for by your taxpayer dollars). And important people like John Kerry will still need their private jets because they are very busy. But you don’t need to fly."
....and I imagine that other "important people"...say like the CEO of a certain placer county resort destination non profit will need their Subaru's as well.
It's just common sense.

Alas....another court scribe saying the quiet part out loud....
I'm not sure he needs to be terribly concerned....the eastern establishment and their new Silicon Valley pledges have so much wrapped up in the simpleton that his legacy will be carried across the finish line. And frankly he's not completely stupid either....he has managed to con a whole group of progressive geriatrics that he remains "a man of the people" no matter how much corruption is discovered and suppressed by the ....ahem...."Press". But his greatest skill is his ability to believe his own BS.....Joe learned long ago that the most important quality to have (in addition to perving on little girls and an unerring drive for Hoovering up dirty money) is sincerity?
Once you can fake that you're (again note to PunchyBot™....you're (the contraction of "you are" as opposed to "your" the possessive) golden!

Another joy of the new green deal -
On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” UAW President Shawn Fain discussed endorsing a candidate in the 2024 presidential race and stated that there are issues with workers possibly being left behind in the transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, and stated that “20% of the powertrain workers in the Big Three stand to lose their jobs down the road” if that transition occurs. He also argued that “you can’t call this a just transition if you’re going to go from $32 an hour wages down to $16 an hour.”
