Milei winning the election in Argentina is producing the usual nonsense from the LameStreamPress and news media.
from the AP:
"Inflation has soared above 140% and poverty has worsened while Massa has held his post."
Laughable. Argentina has been sinking downhill for decades. Massa was just the latest placeholder. I wish Milei (and Argentina) well, but his promise to not privatize education and health care is hardly a "libertarian" stance. The idea that he presents an "alarming" trend in Argentina is silly. Clearly whatever the economic status quo is in Argentina it is not working. Anything at this point will probably be an improvement.

fh 8 pm - That was a good, but sad read. Modern society in "advanced" countries operate so much on good intentions and the fever dreams of the left. It is the general belief by many (most?) that every human has a "right" to all sorts of material goods to be provided by the govt at a cost that is not to be considered. As to anyone who does - they are to be denounced as the proverbial Scrooge. It is amusing to see the left "adjust" their finger-pointing as to who is the fattest calf to be butchered for the good of the people.
At the end of the article, the question arose as to where a person could run to for freedom. It used to be US. Increasingly, talent and capital are finding (for now) other safe havens.
Exciting times!

Usually, the 44MJ/kg energy of gasoline is released over a number of miles, but if you have (20gal x 125MJ/gal = 2.5 x 10^9 BTUs) released in, say, less than a few seconds, it catches someone's attention. A gallon of gasoline weighs about 6.25 pounds (2.8 kg).
What I am surprised at is the use of only ONE camera at the scene (that the govt has seen fit to show). Since the govt most likely identified the Rainbow Bridge as important, there should be dozens of cameras available. Downing the Bridge would inconvenience Canada-U.S. trade for quite a while.
C4 has energy listed at 6MJ/kg. Gasoline is 44MJ/kg. C4's brisance must be considerably more than that of gasoline (I could not even find a brisance for gasoline) so if you wanted to collapse the Rainbow Bridge, C4 is much better than gasoline. Gasoline isn't listed as a high explosive (HE). C4 evidently releases its energy in microseconds.
So the FBI experts on HE should have known immediately after seeing even just the one video, that this wasn't an attempt to knock down the Rainbow Bridge, but was just a simple gasoline explosion. But what do they know, since the FOX experts on HE had already concluded that it was a terrorist event. You know, kinda like the FBI's experts on insurrections concluded that the Jan 6 event, by unmasked folks, without any weapons, on the Capitol, was definitely an 'insurrection'.

Milei
"He has for years condemned politicians as “parasites” and referred to the nation’s career politicians as a “caste” that lives at the expense of the average Argentine citizen. As an economist, he has focused his public rhetoric for years on the wealth-generating power of unfettered capitalism, condemning socialism as an “impoverishing system” that allows for “parasites” in politics to live lavishly while most people suffer."
Well, so far, he has the correct vocabulary. I might forgive him for being an economist entirely, if he denounces Paul Krug...Krugm... Sorry, can't say the name of an anti-capitalist, ersatz Nobel prize winner; officially, the Sveriges Riksbank's Prize winner.
Also, Milei might want to re-think his plans to use the American dollar - things are shaky relying on it.

Posted by: Gregory | 27 November 2023 at 05:22 PM
Gregory
Here's an example of how off base VDH is.
How shout this quote "If you're Al Gore and the attorney general says the votes have been counted and certified in Florida. Oh no, we're going to sue and hold up the entire election for a month. "
What he didn't say is that Gore then conceded and Bush became President. Direct quotes from Gore
"Just moments ago, I spoke with George W. Bush and congratulated him on becoming the 43rd president of the United States. And I promised him that I wouldn't call him back this time. I offered to meet with him as soon as possible so that we can start to heal the divisions of the campaign and the contest through which we've just passed."
Trump never has conceded the election to Biden and in fact staged an insurrection to prevent certification on Jan 6 and sat back and watched on television the Capital being ransacked not doing anything for three hours while watching our elected representatives fleeing to safety while the mob chanted hang Pence. That was Jan 6 two months after the election.

Posted by: Paul Emery | 27 November 2023 at 06:17 PM
So Paul offers his first example and concedes that VDH was correct.
Gore had to concede since the issue was actually heard by the court and found to be BS.
The courts found that in the cases of states changing the rules in 2020 to favor the Dems, they had acted illegally.
You're batting zero, Paul - care to go another round?
Remember that you said it was TOTAL BS - everything was false.
You do realize what a joke you are posting that?
Posted by: Scott O | 27 November 2023 at 06:18 PM
Provide Link you used for your post Scott. I do know Gore graciously conceded.
VDH is a commentator Scott. He provides no documentation to verify any of his assumptios. Total Bullshit because of that.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 27 November 2023 at 06:45 PM
Provide a "link"? Hilarious!
The link is your own post just a couple of inches up on my screen.
First of all, Gregory told you to:
"Stop at the first sentence you disagree with due to a factual error and quote it."
The quote about Gore was pretty far into the video, so already you have conceded VDH is factual on many, many points.
And you conceded that the info about Gore was factual.
You're the one claiming that the VDH vid was complete BS and already you've failed.
As Gregory pointed out - it's now incumbent on you to point out the statements made by VDH that you claim are false and provide proof of your assertions.
I don't have to provide a damn thing, other than to point out what a foolish joke you are.
VDH pointed out that Gore went to court to delay the final outcome of the vote. Paul Emery claimed that was not true. Paul Emery can either acknowledge that it is a true fact or provide some evidence to the contrary.

Posted by: fishhole | 27 November 2023 at 07:23 PM
Scott
It's up to VDH to provide documentation for his editorial. His piece
is purely an Commentary and is not presented with any factual basis. Why should I provide proof of my assertions when he doesn't do that with his? I provided proof that Gore graciously conceded once a court decision was rendered. That was something Trump did not do then and still hasn't now. He still claims he won the election and you agree with him.
The quote I took from Gore was the very beginning of his concession speech. Apparently you didn't read it.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 27 November 2023 at 08:10 PM
"It's up to VDH to provide documentation for his editorial."

Biden is telling the corps they are "gouging" because the energy, material and labor costs for the corps are going up and these evil, greedy companies have the gall to pass the costs along to the consumers.
Biden claims inflation is going down - folks like Paul Emery are the target audience for that sort of idiot talk.
The govt desperately needs to inflate the money now to try and stay ahead of all the dough they need to borrow to pay for "entitlements". Of course that means borrowers want higher rates of return on the bonds they buy - so round and round we go until the money is no good.

Trump now refers to the insurrectionists who broke into into Capital hostages not prisoners.
“You know that was? I call them the J6 hostages, not prisoners. I call them the hostages,” Trump said in the first moments of his speech at an offshore drilling company’s facility. “They asked me whether or not I would partake and do the beautiful words. I said, yes, I would. And you saw the spirit, the spirit was incredible.”
Here's more from the atricle:
Jonathan G. Mellis, 35, pleaded guilty in June to felony assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon after using a large wooden stick to attempt to strike officers where their armor was weakest. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
William Chrestman, 49, a Kansas City-area member of the Proud Boys, pleaded guilty earlier this month to two felonies for his role in the riot – threatening to assault a federal officer and obstructing an official proceeding. Prosecutors said he played a key role in the attack and wielded an ax handle.
Marine Corps veteran Ryan Nichols, 32, took a plea deal earlier this month on charges of assaulting, resisting or impeding police and obstructing an official proceeding after prosecutors revealed images they said showed him spraying chemical irritants and wielding a crowbar in the rioting crowd. He called for dragging politicians through the streets, prosecutors said.
And Shane Jenkins, 45, was sentenced to six years in prison and three years of supervised release on Oct. 6 after being convicted of seven felonies and two misdemeanors. He threatened to kill Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, according to prosecutors. He used a tomahawk to smash the windows of the Capitol, assembled furniture to use as weapons and then used those weapons on law enforcement officers."

"using a large wooden stick to attempt to strike officer"
So he didn't hit anyone.
"A Capitol riot defendant accused of attacking police officers with a stick on Jan. 6, 2021, is trying to convince a federal judge to let him out of the D.C. Jail, where he has been incarcerated for more than a year, insisting his girlfriend will make sure he stays out of trouble before his trial."

Gee - a year in jail and still no trial? Sounds totally legit.
If that were an Antifa dude he'd get 10 days - if not just a fine.
And that's if the DA even bothered to charge him.

Ya the US got bidenomiced -
The average U.S. household needs an extra $11,434 per year just to maintain the same standard of living they had only a few years ago, before inflation hit record highs under the Biden administration.
A Tuesday CBS News Moneywatch report used government data to determine how much Americans paid to live in January 2021 compared to today, finding that the typical family just can’t compete with the 40-year record-high inflation.

re DB 5:09 - "The average U.S. household needs an extra $11,434 per year..."
Well, yeah - but no mean tweets - so there's that.
Anyway - Biden can just print the extra dough and hand it out.
Posted by: Scott O | 29 November 2023 at 07:46 PM
Well - they are honest about what's really important here:
"COP28 climate summit head Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber notched a win on the first official day of talks in Dubai, with the adoption of an agreement to set up a "loss and damage" fund to help developing nations."
Cause them "poorer nations" guys are tired of flying coach to these climate change shindigs and they need the dough to have their own private jets like Kerry.
Biden will want the US to be the biggest sucker, er donor, of course.
It's for the children.

I would guess that the answer from the the Green Libertarian™ faction regarding the number of factually true statements emanating from the White House in any 24 hr period is TRUMP!!!

"How is that different..."
Because Trump didn't "hand out" 7.5 trillion - congress did and if Trump had tried to veto it he would have been overridden. Duh.
Printing money and handing it out to people who didn't earn it is quite a different thing entirely from lowering the tax burden on American citizens.
See: vote buying by erasing student debt.

Scott
Trump controlled both the House and Senate for the first two years and the Senate for the last two so he had more control over the legislature than the Dems had. Weak excuse for running up over 7 Trillion in debt.

It's his job to handle emergencies Gregory and he did a lousy job managing Covid. Here's an example of his "leadership"
quotes:
“We have it totally under control.”
— President Trump, in an interview, on Jan. 22
“We have tested over 40 million people. By so doing, we show cases, 99 percent of which are totally harmless. Results that no other country will show, because no other country has testing that we have — not in terms of the numbers or in terms of the quality.”
— President Trump, remarks at the White House, July 4, 2020
“You may ask about the coronavirus, which is very well under control in our country.”
— Trump, in a news conference, on Feb. 25
“It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”
— Trump, in remarks, on Feb. 27
“Anybody that needs a test, gets a test. They’re there. They have the tests. And the tests are beautiful.”
— Trump, in remarks at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, March 6

"and he did a lousy job managing Covid."
Once again, Paul claims Trump didn't do a good job during covid but every time he brings this up he refuses to tell us specifically what Trump should have done.
China caused the disease, the mayors and governors shut down the economy. Trump tried to get people back to work and open the schools but the left and the Dems sat on their ass.
Paul has no idea how the separated powers of the government work. The president is not a dictator. He does not control the congress. And Trump did not "hand out" 7.5 trillion.

We were par for the world, and Trump did roll the dice and got a vaccine for the world in record time.
As usual, you're just throwing mud. Childish.

He increased our debt by 7.5 trillion Scott during his 4 years as President. That is known as the bottom line. Do you deny that?
You claim "Because Trump didn't "hand out" 7.5 trillion - congress did and if Trump had tried to veto it he would have been overridden." Is completely false. There is no way the Senate and house would have had the two thirds vote to overide Trumps veto without Republican support. I thought you knew that.
Here are the basics
By threatening a veto, the President can persuade legislators to alter the content of the bill to be more acceptable to the President. Congress can override a veto by passing the act by a two-thirds vote in both the House and the Senate. (Usually an act is passed with a simple majority.

"How is that different than the 7.5 trillion that Trump dished out in his four years..."
Your words, Paul. Trump did not "dish out" 7.5 trillion. You have no idea how the govt operates. The President is not a dictator and your fantasy that Trump could "threaten" congress into passing a balanced budget is hilarious. Congress has to keep the gravy train rolling so they can get re-elected. Only a handful of Rs even pretend to want to balance the budget.

Just how bad is the U.S. cost-of-living squeeze? We did the math
It now requires $119.27 to buy the same goods and services a family could afford with $100 before the pandemic. Since early 2020, prices have risen about as much as they had in the full 10 years preceding the health emergency.
That means that the change in the guitar case has to be twenty percent deeper for Punch to maintain his hippy lifestyle than before! Well that's Bidenomics for you!

According to the Reagan National Defense Survey, 77% of Americans view China as an enemy, while just 15% view the nation as an ally. That number is a drastic change from 2018, when the survey found 38% of Americans viewed China as an ally, and 55% as an enemy.
A majority of Americans (51%) also view China as the greatest threat facing the nation, up from 43% last year and 21% in 2018. Meanwhile, the number of those viewing Russia as the greatest threat is falling, with just 24% viewing the nation as such, down from 31% last year following its invasion of Ukraine.

More comedy from the "Democratic" party:
"Thursday marked the deadline for the Florida Democrat and Republican parties to submit their lists of approved candidates for their receptive primaries, and Biden was the lone name on the Democrat ticket, per Politico."
The Republican party submitted 8 names.
No wonder Lonely Juanita won't show his mug around here anymore.
Paul will, of course, blame Trump.
Kerry flies to the Climate Change hooha to lecture us about our lifestyles.
And some folks still wonder why a big mouth blow hard like Trump can win the election.
Possibly if the Dems could slow their hyper-drive into the sewer of insanity of men getting pregnant and not allowing their own folks to actually vote for their choice of candidate for president, you wouldn't have to worry about Trump.
Naw -
stay tuned, folks - the Fed has to pull an elephant out of a hat to keep interest rates low, inflation low, AND keep the money pump flowing.
BTW:
"The resilient consumer has kept the US economic engine running, but it’s coming at a big cost: Americans are piling up record credit card balances, and more and more are falling behind on those payments."
